Resumo A partir do Estatuto da Terra (1964), políticas públicas voltadas à modernização do campo e à utilização da terra para fins empresariais foram adotadas pela ditadura civil-militar, aprofundando a concentração fundiária em um país marcado pelo latifúndio e por conflitos agrários. Esse artigo visa a analisar o dossiê do Serviço Nacional de Informações “Irregularidade administrativa”, no qual o governador de Goiás, políticos, empresários e advogados do estado são acusados de grilagem de terras no Maranhão e de serem mandantes de uma chacina responsável pelo assassinato de seis camponeses. Debatemos, a partir desse processo, a rede estruturada entre agentes públicos e privados para facilitar a concentração agrária de um grupo de empresários e políticos de Goiás em detrimento dos camponeses e posseiros que cultivavam aquelas terras há décadas. Também debateremos as consequências dessa expropriação para a população habitante no território grilado e arredores.

Abstract Beginning with the Land Law (1964), public policies aimed at modernizing the countryside and using land for business purposes were adopted by the civil-military dictatorship, deepening land concentration in a country marked by latifundia and agrarian conflicts. This article aims to analyze the dossier from the National Information Service “Administrative irregularity”, in which the governor of Goiás, politicians, businessmen, and lawyers from the state are accused of land grabbing in Maranhão and of being the masterminds of a massacre responsible for the murder of six peasants. Based on this process, we will discuss the network structured between public and private agents to facilitate the agrarian concentration of a group of businessmen and politicians from Goiás, to the detriment of the peasants and squatters cultivating those lands for decades. We will also discuss the consequences of this expropriation for the population living in and around the land grab.

Resumo Desde os seus primeiros anos, a Comissão de Linhas Telegráficas do Mato Grosso ao Amazonas (CLTEMTA) enfrentou o desafio sanitário de construir uma linha de comunicação em área tropical assolada por moléstias tropicais endêmicas que chegaram a paralisar suas obras. Nos relatórios dos médicos militares da Comissão, dentre as moléstias citadas destaca-se o beribéri. Discutia-se a sua etiologia, ainda pouco elucidada, opondo-se os defensores da teoria da infecção e os partidários da chamada deficiência alimentar. Este impasse se refletiu nos relatórios dos médicos da Comissão, sobretudo na maneira como interpretavam casos da doença nas frentes de construção da linha. Selecionamos dois relatórios que discutem o beribéri e sua incidência na área de atuação da Comissão, dos médicos Murillo de Campos (1913) e José Antônio Cajazeira (1916), que dialogam com o conhecimento médico produzido à época sobre a doença.

Abstract From its early years, the Mato Grosso-Amazon Telegraph Lines Commission (CLTEMTA) faced the health challenge of building a communication line in a tropical area plagued by endemic tropical diseases that had brought its construction to a standstill. In the reports of the Commission’s military doctors, beriberi stands out among the diseases mentioned. Its etiology, which is still poorly understood, was debated, with proponents of the infection theory and supporters of the so-called nutritional deficiency theory opposing each other. This impasse was reflected in the reports of the Commission’s doctors, especially in the way they interpreted cases of the disease on the line’s construction fronts. We selected two reports that discuss beriberi and its incidence in the Commission’s area of activity, by doctors Murillo de Campos (1913) and José Antônio Cajazeira (1916), which discuss the medical knowledge produced at the time about the disease.

Resumo O presente artigo consiste na análise da emergência de padrões de beleza do corpo masculino, sobretudo no que diz respeito à cor da pele, divulgados na revista Rose, pioneira publicação de nus masculinos a circular no Brasil, entre 1979-1983. Foram selecionadas 27 edições do periódico para a análise e percebeu-se que o tipo físico produzido como atrativo e desejável difere do fabricado no final do século XX e nos dias de hoje. Observou-se, ainda, que modelos de cor preta eram pouco visíveis na revista, o que mobilizou uma discussão sobre uma história da beleza. Essa análise fundamenta-se nos estudos sobre masculinidades e a metodologia foi construída a partir da imbricação entre História e Imprensa.

Abstract This text analyzes the emergence of beauty standards for the male body, especially about skin color, published in Rose magazine, a pioneering publication of male nudes circulating in Brazil, in the 1970s-80s. 27 editions of the periodical were selected for analysis and it was noticed that the physical type produced as attractive and desirable differs from that made at the end of the 20th century and nowadays. It was also noticed that black models were barely visible in the magazine, which sparked a discussion about a history of beauty. This analysis is based on studies on masculinities and the methodology was built from the overlap between History and the Press.

RESUMO Este artigo tem a proposta de contribuir para a compreensão do atual estágio da militância protestante, mostrando como a denominação Batista, em especial as igrejas que a representavam no estado da Bahia, atuou no contexto do Golpe Civil-Militar de 1964, e despontou como uma importante produtora de discursos anticomunistas no país. Através da análise das fontes pesquisadas será possível demonstrar que o relacionamento dos batistas baianos com o Governo Militar estadual ocorreu por meio de três formas que se complementam: a defesa do Golpe Civil-Militar e do regime instaurado; a relação de barganha e clientelismo estabelecida entre os batistas baianos e os representantes da Ditadura no governo estadual; e o posicionamento anticomunista exposto na imprensa batista e no pronunciamento de suas lideranças durante esse período.

ABSTRACT This article aims to contribute to the understanding of the current stage of Protestant militancy, showing how the Baptist Denomination, especially the churches that represented it in the state of Bahia, acted in the context of the Civil-Military Coup of 1964 and emerged as an important producer of anti-communist speeches in the country. Through the analysis of the sources researched, it will be possible to demonstrate that the relationship between Bahian Baptists and the state Military Government occurred through three forms that complement each other: the defense of the Civil-Military Coup and the established regime; the bargaining and clientelism relationship established between Bahian Baptists and representatives of the Dictatorship in the state government; and the anti-communist position exposed in the Baptist press and in the statements of its leaders during this period.

RESUMEN Se busca rescatar la figura de Neus (Nieves) Espresate Xirau (1934-2017), quien logró incidir de manera significativa en los procesos políticos y culturales de su tiempo, a través de la editorial ERA, de la cual fue fundadora y directora, por más de cuarenta años. Con ese fin, se analiza su llegada y la de su familia a México como parte de la recepción de los republicanos españoles en los años treinta del siglo XX y, posteriormente, la relación que entabló con los principales círculos culturales mexicanos en los años sesenta, cuando fundó ERA, una editorial que adquirió un carácter independiente y crítico del régimen autoritario mexicano. Asimismo, se destaca su labor, con la cual, a pesar de desarrollarse en un ámbito predominantemente masculino, logró que sus obras publicadas se distribuyeran por varios países de América Latina y Europa.

ABSTRACT We seek to rescue the character of Neus (Nieves) Espresate Xirau (1934-2017), who managed to significantly influence the political and cultural processes of her time, through the publishing house ERA, of which she was founder and director, for more than forty years. To this end, we analyze her and her family’s arrival in Mexico as part of the reception of the Spanish Republicans in the 1930s and, subsequently, the relationship she established with the main Mexican cultural circles in the 1960s, when she founded ERA. This publishing house has acquired an independent and critical character of the Mexican authoritarian regime. Likewise, her work is highlighted, and, despite developing in a predominantly male sphere, she managed to have her published works distributed in several Latin American and European countries.

RESUMO O artigo reflete sobre o processo de transição política da ditadura civil-militar iniciada em 1964, e sobre a construção do ano de 1985 como de término do regime militar e de início da “Nova República”. Objetiva-se problematizar os marcos cronológicos e simbólicos reproduzidos pelas historiografias acadêmica e escolar. Argumenta-se que discursos e manifestações políticas criaram uma memória social que foi apropriada acriticamente e transformada em interpretação quanto ao período. Dessa forma, pretende-se evidenciar os interesses em consolidar o fim da ditadura em 1985, com a posse de um presidente civil.

ABSTRACT The paper reflects on the political transition process from the civil-military dictatorship that began in 1964, and on the construction of 1985 as the end of the military regime and the beginning of the “New Republic”. The aim is to critically examine the chronological and symbolic landmarks reproduced by academic and school historiographies. It is argued that political speeches and demonstrations created a social memory that was passively accepted and transformed into an interpretation of the period. Thus, the aim is to emphasize the interest in consolidating 1985 as the end of the dictatorship, marked by the inauguration of a civilian president.

RESUMO No Brasil, durante o Estado Novo (1937-1945), o Institute of Inter-American Affairs da Fundação Rockefeller e o Ministério da Educação e Saúde do governo federal inauguraram o Serviço Especial de Saúde Pública como um gabinete que instaurou o Programa de Enfermagem. Enfermeiras dos Estados Unidos atuaram como consultoras em um esforço de retomada da profissionalização que rompeu o padrão de formação profissional vigente, considerado política e ideologicamente inoperante. Ao retraçar o processo histórico, o artigo remonta à atuação de mulheres nas relações internacionais no século XX, em especial Ella Hasenjaeger, cuja trajetória permite-nos vislumbrar os lugares assumidos por enfermeiras em políticas públicas de saúde que se estenderam dos Estados Unidos à América Latina, e no Brasil, a partir da Escola de Enfermagem da Universidade de São Paulo.

ABSTRACT In Brazil, during the New State (1937-1945), the Institute of Inter-American Affairs of the Rockefeller Foundation and the Ministry of Education and Health of Federal Govern inaugurated the Special Public Health Service as an office that established the Nurse Brazil Party. Nurses from United States act as consultants in the endeavor to resumption nursing that broke the current model of professional training, considered politics and ideologically inoperative. By retracing the historical process, the article remounts to the work of women in international relations in the 20th century, particularly Ella Hasenjaeger, whose trajectory allows us to project places taken by nurses in public health policies that have come from the U.S. to Latin America, and in Brazil, from the Nursing School of University of São Paulo.

RESUMEN Este ensayo analiza la correspondencia entre Palma Guillén y Alfonso Reyes, conservada en el archivo de la Capilla Alfonsina en Ciudad de México. Aporta al estudio del ideario internacional de México y sus actores. Revisa las ideas intercambiadas por Palma Guillén y Alfonso Reyes en la construcción de una amistad, da luz a sus visiones sobre México y las tareas diplomáticas de ambos y se vincula con el trabajo diplomático de Gabriela Mistral, premio nobel de literatura en 1945. Identifica el proceso de construcción de una diplomacia particular y la forja de una doctrina internacional. Además, vincula documentos diplomáticos con correspondencia personal, reconstruyendo la carrera de Palma Guillén en un contexto predominantemente masculino, en el que logró rodearse de figuras clave en educación, diplomacia y literatura.

ABSTRACT This essay reviews the correspondence between Palma Guillén and Alfonso Reyes, preserved in the archive of the Capilla Alfonsina in Mexico City. It contributes to the study of Mexico’s international ideology and its actors. It reviews the ideas exchanged by Palma Guillén and Alfonso Reyes in the construction of a friendship, sheds light on their visions of Mexico and the diplomatic tasks of both, and is linked to the diplomatic work of Gabriela Mistral, Nobel Prize in Literature in 1945. It identifies the process of building a particular diplomacy and forging an international doctrine. It also links diplomatic documents with personal correspondence, reconstructing Palma Guillén’s career in a predominantly male context, in which he managed to surround himself with key figures in education, diplomacy, and literature.

RESUMO O artigo enfoca a trajetória e a obra da escritora e jornalista de viagens estadunidense Marie Robinson Wright (1866-1914), que colaborou com jornais e revistas de seu país, alcançando renome por sua participação nas grandes exposições internacionais do período. Sua obra se insere no contexto do surgimento de um gênero de jornalismo investigativo e de viagens, nos Estados Unidos. A partir da década de 1890, Wright viajou pelos Estados Unidos e pela América Latina, editando livros, artigos e reportagens sobre os diversos países que visitou, escrevendo, por vezes, por encomenda de autoridades locais. Assim, desempenhou importante papel dentro do âmbito de ações que envolviam a aproximação dos Estados Unidos com os países do continente, na perspectiva do pan-americanismo.

ABSTRACT The article focuses on the career and work of the American travel writer and journalist Marie Robinson Wright (1866-1914), who collaborated with newspapers and magazines in her country, achieving renown for her participation in the great international exhibitions of the period. Her work was part of the emergence of an investigative and travel journalism genre in the United States. From the 1890s onwards, Wright traveled around the United States and Latin America, publishing books, articles, and reports on the various countries she visited, sometimes writing on commission from local authorities. Therefore, she played an important role in the actions that involved bringing the United States closer to the countries of the continent, from the perspective of Pan-Americanism.

RESUMO O artigo analisa a política do tempo que fundamenta a criação, aplicação e justificação do “marco temporal de ocupação”. Argumento que essa política está centrada na imposição do critério da atualidade da ocupação indígena, tendo como referência a data da promulgação da Constituição. Demonstro que a principal justificativa histórica da tese está fundada em uma interpretação equivocada sobre a história de uma disputa conceitual ocorrida na Assembleia Nacional Constituinte (ANC) em torno do conceito de “posse imemorial”. Com base em pesquisa na documentação da ANC, jurisprudência do STF, documentos legislativos e matérias da imprensa, reconstituo essa história e mostro como esse equívoco se estabeleceu no discurso jurídico e político. Além de demonstrar a viabilidade analítica da categoria “políticas do tempo” para a pesquisa histórica, o argumento proposto neste artigo também reforça a inconstitucionalidade do marco temporal.

ABSTRACT The article analyzes the politics of time underlying the creation, application, and justification of the “temporal landmark of occupation”. I argue that this politics is centered on the criterion of the actuality of indigenous occupation, using the date of Brazil’s Constitution’s promulgation as its benchmark. I demonstrate that the main historical justification for the thesis is based on a misinterpretation of the history of a conceptual battle that took place in the National Constituent Assembly (ANC) over the concept of “immemorial possession”. Based on research into ANC documentation, Supreme Court jurisprudence, legislative records, and press articles, I reconstruct this history and show how this blunder has been established in legal and political discourse. Besides demonstrating the analytical viability of the category “politics of time” for historical research, the argument presented in this article also reinforces the unconstitutionality of the temporal landmark.

RESUMEN El artículo analiza el aporte de las dos primeras ministras de relaciones exteriores de Colombia, Noemí Sanín y María Emma Mejía, al desarrollo de la diplomacia colombiana en los años noventa. Después de casi dos siglos de liderazgo masculino en el ministerio, ambas se destacaron como símbolos de un cambio histórico que permitió mayor participación femenina en espacios de poder político en América Latina. Aunque sus cargos estuvieron marcados por coyunturas y mandatos profundamente diferentes, ambas hicieron importantes contribuciones a la diversificación de los aliados y de la agenda internacional, así como posicionaron la paz y el medio ambiente como áreas clave de la política exterior de Colombia. A partir de este momento se abrió el camino para que, durante el siglo XXI, el Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores colombiano haya estado presidido la mayor parte del tiempo por mujeres.

ABSTRACT This article analyzes the contribution of Colombia’s first two women foreign ministers, Noemí Sanín and María Emma Mejía, to the development of Colombian diplomacy in the 1990s. After almost two centuries of male leadership in the ministry, both stood out as symbols of a historical change that allowed greater female participation in spaces of political power in Latin America. Although profoundly different junctures and mandates marked their positions, both made important contributions to the diversification of allies and the international agenda and positioned peace and the environment as key areas of Colombia’s foreign policy. From this moment on, the way was paved for the Colombian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to have been presided over most of the time by women during the 21st century.

RESUMEN La faceta diplomática y la participación de Hermila Galindo en las relaciones internacionales de México es un terreno muy poco explorado. El objetivo de este trabajo es analizar la aportación que tuvo como pionera en la diplomacia y la política exterior de México y la incidencia que esto tuvo en el desarrollo de su pensamiento en materia de política internacional. Con ello se pretende contribuir a la difusión de un aspecto poco conocido de su historia.

ABSTRACT Hermila Galindo’s diplomatic role and involvement in Mexico’s international relations is a somewhat underexplored area. This paper aims to analyze her contributions as a pioneer in Mexican diplomacy and foreign policy, as well as the impact these had on her development of thought regarding international politics. The goal is to help disseminate a relatively unknown aspect of her history.
