RESUMO O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar as características produtivas e a eficiência do uso da terra e da água em monocultivo e consórcio de rúcula com jambu sob regimes hídricos em dois ciclos de cultivo em região semiárida do Ceará. O delineamento experimental foi em blocos casualizados, em esquema de parcelas subdivididas, com 20 tratamentos e quatro repetições. As parcelas foram as irrigações, com 50, 75, 100, 125 e 150% de ETc. As subparcelas foram os sistemas consorciado e solteiro. Em cada ciclo foram avaliadas as características de crescimento das plantas e a eficiência do uso da água e da terra. Os maiores valores foram obtidos para número de folhas, altura, e massa fresca e seca das partes aéreas e raízes das plantas de rúcula quando consorciadas. Os melhores resultados para as variáveis de crescimento do jambu foram obtidos para as plantas cultivadas em monocultivo. Os valores de produtividade foram maiores no sistema solteiro; entretanto, os valores médios de eficiência do uso da terra no sistema consorciado foram de 1,23 e 1,28 em 2018 e 2019, respectivamente. Os melhores resultados foram obtidos com 75% ETc (DI75) para rúcula e irrigação total com 100% ETc (TI100) e irrigação em excesso com 125% ETc (EI125) para jambu. A eficiência do uso da água foi maior no sistema solteiro. Os índices de produtividade obtidos com o sistema consorciado rúcula-jambu e DI75 confirmam a maior eficiência biológica. Com base no exposto, conclui-se que rúcula e jambu são promissores para o consórcio em condições semiáridas.

ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to evaluate the production characteristics and the efficiency of land and water use in monoculture and intercropping of arugula with jambu under water regimes in two crop cycles in the semi-arid region of Ceará, Brazil. The experimental design was randomized blocks, in a split-plot scheme, with 20 treatments and four replicates. The plots were irrigation, corresponding to 50, 75, 100, 125 and 150% of ETc. The subplots were the intercropping and single systems. In each cycle, the growth characteristics of the plants and the efficiency of water and land use were evaluated. The highest values were obtained for number of leaves, height, and fresh and dry mass of aerial parts and roots of arugula plants when intercropped. The best results for the growth variables of jambu were obtained for plants grown in monoculture. The productivity values were higher in the single-cropping system; however, the average land use efficiency values in the intercropped system were 1.23 and 1.28 in 2018 and 2019, respectively. The best results were obtained with 75% ETc (DI75) for arugula and full irrigation with 100% ETc (TI100) and excess irrigation with 125% ETc (EI125) for jambu. Water use efficiency was higher in the single system. The productivity indices obtained with the arugula-jambu intercropped system and DI75 confirm the higher biological efficiency. Based on the above, it is concluded that arugula and jambu are promising for intercropping under semi-arid conditions.

RESUMO: Vários resíduos agroindustriais podem ser utilizados para a extração de açúcares por meio de reações químicas. Este estudo avalia a extração de açúcares totais e açúcares redutores de resíduos de casca de banana (Musa paradisiaca) e laranja (Citrus sinensis) usando reações de hidrólise ácida para saber se há diferença entre a concentração de açúcares presentes, analisando o efeito de diferentes concentrações de ácido sulfúrico e tempos de reação. Foi utilizado o delineamento experimental 2 × 4 × 2 completamente aleatório, avaliando dois tipos de resíduos, expostos a quatro concentrações de ácido sulfúrico (4, 6, 8 e 10% V/V) em tempos de reação de 2 e 4 horas. Totalizando 16 tratamentos com três repetições. As unidades experimentais foram compostas por frascos de vidro de borosilicato semi-submersos em um banho de óleo vegetal e montados em uma torre de resfriamento rápido, de onde foram obtidos os xaropes de glicose analisados. Os resíduos de casca de laranja apresentaram os maiores valores de extração de açúcares redutores com concentração de 8% de ácido sulfúrico, apresentando média de 16,46 mg L-1 ± SE = 0,591 e tempo ótimo de reação de hidrólise de 2 horas. Com 4 horas de tempo de reação, a extração de açúcares redutores foi maior nos resíduos de casca de laranja em comparação com os resíduos de casca de banana. Ambos os resíduos se mostraram adequados para a extração de açúcar, apresentando uma valiosa oportunidade de utilização em regiões onde estão prontamente disponíveis. Eles podem ser empregados em processos de fermentação para a produção de bioetanol.

ABSTRACT Several agro-industrial residues can be utilized for the extraction of sugars through chemical reactions. This study evaluated the extraction of total sugars and reducing sugars from banana (Musa paradisiaca) and orange (Citrus sinensis) peel residues using acid hydrolysis. It also investigated if there is a difference between the concentration of sugars present, and analyzed the effect of different sulfuric acid concentrations and reaction times. A completely randomized 2 × 4 × 2 experimental design was used to evaluate two types of waste, exposed to four concentrations of sulfuric acid (4, 6, 8 and 10% V/V) at reaction times of 2 and 4 hours. This amounted to 16 treatments with three repetitions. The experimental units consisted of borosilicate glass flasks, half submerged in a bath of vegetable oil and assembled in a rapid cooling tower from which the analyzed glucose syrups were obtained. The orange peel residues showed the highest values of reducing sugar extraction with 8% sulfuric acid concentration, presenting mean of 16.46 mg L-1 ± SE = 0.591 and optimal hydrolysis reaction time of 2 hours. With 4 hours reaction time, the extraction of reducing sugars was higher in orange peel residues compared to banana peel residues. Both residues proved to be suitable for sugar extraction, presenting a valuable opportunity for utilization in regions where they are readily available. They can be employed in fermentation processes for bioethanol production.

RESUMO O objetivo desta pesquisa foi avaliar a influência de diferentes épocas de plantio e variáveis meteorológicas no desempenho produtivo da mandioca industrial na região do Agreste de Alagoas. Os tratamentos foram cinco datas de plantio, com espaçamento temporal de 25 dias entre elas: D1 - 10 de abril, D2 - 05 de maio, D3 - 30 de maio, D4 - 24 de junho e D5 - 19 de julho. O período experimental foi de abril de 2021 a setembro de 2023, dois ciclos de cultivo. Utilizou-se o delineamento em blocos casualizados, com quatro repetições. As variáveis analisadas foram: dados agrometeorológicas e de crescimento e produção da cultura. Na região do Agreste de Alagoas, entre as estações chuvosa e seca, a ET0 média diária varia de 2,9 a 4,7 mm, respectivamente. A temperatura média do ar é 24,3 °C e atende as demandas térmicas da cultura da mandioca. A precipitação anual é suficiente para garantir a produção de mandioca, porém, há sazonalidade nas chuvas, com período seco da primavera ao verão, o que prejudica plantios mais tardios. Na região do Agreste de Alagoas, o melhor período para o plantio da mandioca é de 10 de abril a 5 de maio, que é o início do período chuvoso da região e garante melhores resultados em: altura do dossel vegetativo (3,2 m), diâmetro do caule (2,8 cm), índice de área foliar (3,0), comprimento máximo (43,1 cm), número (6,6) e rendimento de raízes (72,8 t ha-1), biomassa total (145 t ha-1) e teor de amido (34,3%).

ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of different planting times and meteorological variables on the productive performance of industrial cassava in the Agreste region of Alagoas state, Brazil. The treatments were five planting dates, 25 days apart: D1 - April 10, D2 - May 5, D3 - May 30, D4 - June 24 and D5 - July 19. The experiment was conducted from April 2021 to September 2023 (two cultivation cycles), using randomized blocks, with four replicates. The variables analyzed were agrometeorological data, crop growth and yield. In the Agreste region of Alagoas, the average daily ET0 varies from 2.9 to 4.7 mm between the rainy and dry seasons, respectively. The average temperature of 24.3 °C meets the thermal demands of cassava cultivation. Although annual rainfall is sufficient to guarantee cassava production, it is seasonal, with a dry period from spring to summer, which compromises subsequent plantings. In the Agreste region of Alagoas, the best time to plant cassava is from April 10 to May 5, which is the beginning of the rainy season and ensures better vegetative canopy height (3.2 m), stem diameter (2.8 cm), leaf area index (3.0), maximum root length (43.1 cm), number (6.6) and yield (72.8 t ha-1), total biomass (145 t ha-1) and starch content (34.3%).

RESUMO A cultura do tomate cereja é sensível ao déficit hídrico, sendo necessário um adequado manejo da irrigação, principalmente em regiões, cujo regime pluviométrico é irregular. Diante do exposto, o objetivo deste estudo foi analisar a viabilidade do índice térmico para determinação do déficit hídrico em tomate cereja sob diferentes estratégias de irrigação com déficit controlado e uso de condicionador de solo tipo hidrogel. Adotou-se o delineamento experimental em blocos casualizados com arranjo fatorial 5 × 2, em parcelas subdivididas, referentes às cinco estratégias de irrigação (FI - Irrigação plena, RD - Irrigação com déficit hídrico regular, S3 - Irrigação com déficit controlado na fase vegetativa, S4 - Irrigação com déficit controlado na fase de florescimento e frutificação, S5 - Irrigação com déficit controlado na fase de maturação e colheita) com déficit hídrico estabelecido em 50% da evapotranspiração da cultura, e uso do hidrogel (WiH - Com hidrogel, WoH - Sem hidrogel), com quatro repetições, totalizando 40 parcelas experimentais. As variáveis avaliadas foram: número total de flores e frutos, peso total dos frutos e índice térmico do dossel. Aos 60 dias após o transplantio, as estratégias de déficit hídrico regular e déficit hídrico controlado na fase de florescimento e frutificação, sem hidrogel, evidenciaram as maiores médias de índice térmico (0,98; 1,03 e 0,70 °C, respectivamente) e menor potencial hídrico foliar (-0,70; -0,48 e -0,50 MPa, respectivamente). O índice térmico obtido por imagens termográficas é viável para determinação dos efeitos do déficit hídrico no tomate cereja.

ABSTRACT Tomato cultivation is highly demanding on the supply of water throughout its phenological cycle, especially in regions where rainfall is irregular or scarce. Given the above, the objective of this study was to analyze the viability of thermal index for determining water deficit in cherry tomato under different strategies of controlled deficit irrigation and use of a hydrogel-type soil conditioner. The experimental design adopted was randomized blocks in a 5 × 2 split-plot arrangement, referring to the irrigation strategies (FI - Full irrigation, RD - Regular deficit irrigation, with a continuously applied water deficit, S3 - Irrigation with controlled deficit in the vegetative stage, S4 - Irrigation with controlled deficit in the flowering and fruiting stages and S5 - Irrigation with controlled deficit in the maturation and harvest stages), with water deficit established at 50% of crop evapotranspiration, and use of hydrogel (WiH - With hydrogel, WoH - Without hydrogel), with four replicates, and with three plants per plot. The variables tested were: total number of flowers and fruits, total fruit weight and canopy thermal index. At 60 days after transplanting, the regular deficit irrigation and irrigation with controlled water deficit in the flowering, without hydrogel, showed the highest means of thermal index (0.98, 1.03 and 0.70 °C, respectively) and lowest leaf water potential (-0.70, -0.48 and -0.50 MPa, respectively). The thermal index obtained by thermographic images is viable for determining the effects of water deficit on cherry tomato.

RESUMO O conteúdo de água no solo é um fator-chave na avaliação nas áreas agrícola e ecológica. O objetivo deste trabalho foi explorar a combinação de informações multisatélites para abordar a questão da baixa precisão na recuperação do conteúdo de água do solo a partir de informações de banda única e fonte única, e estabelecer um modelo para estimativa do conteúdo de água do solo baseado no método multiespectral simulado. Foi realizado um experimento de determinação hiperespectral de amostras de solo (Latossolos) com valores variáveis de teor de água. A reflectância de oito sensores de satélite multiespectral foi remapeada com base nas funções de resposta espectral. Os índices de vegetação (VIs) foram estabelecidos combinando todas as bandas de sensores disponíveis. Os VIs significativos e a reflectância da banda foram extraídos pelos métodos de coeficiente de correlação e análise de importância de dados out-of-bag (OOB), e em seguida modelos lineares e não lineares foram estabelecidos para a estimativa do conteúdo de água no solo. Correlação significativa foi obtida entre refletância multiespectral simulada, VIs e teor de água no solo. Os modelos não lineares apresentaram melhor desempenho que o modelo linear. A combinação do modelo OOB e Random Forest (OOB-RF) obteve a maior acurácia de predição, com R2 calibração e R2 predição de 0,852 e 0,834, respectivamente. De forma geral, verificou-se que o método de modelagem OOB-RF baseado em sensoriamento remoto multiespectral foi viável para estimar o teor de água no solo.

ABSTRACT The soil water content is a key evaluation factor in the agricultural and ecological fields. The objective of this study was to explore the combination of multi-satellite information to address the issue of low accuracy in soil water content retrieval from single-band, single-source information and to establish a model for the estimation of the soil water content based on a simulated multi-spectral method. An experiment involving the hyperspectral determination of soil samples (Oxisols) with varying values of the water content was conducted. The reflectance of eight multi-spectral satellite sensors was resampled based on the spectral response functions. The vegetation indices (VIs) were established by pairing all available sensor bands. The significant VIs and band reflectance were extracted using the correlation coefficient and out-of-bag (OOB) data importance analysis methods, and then linear models and nonlinear models were established for soil water content estimation. A significant correlation was achieved between the simulated multi-spectral reflectance, VIs, and soil water content. The nonlinear models had a better performance than the linear model. The combined OOB and random forest (OOB-RF) model achieved the highest prediction accuracy, with R2 calibration and R2 prediction values of 0.852 and 0.834, respectively. Overall, it was verified that the OOB-RF modeling method based on multi-spectral remote sensing was feasible for estimating the soil water content.

RESUMO A climatização de packing houses é fundamental para o bem-estar humano, e por se tratar de um ambiente de produção, é desejável que haja homogeneidade das variáveis ambientais. Assim, este estudo foi conduzido com o objetivo de avaliar o ambiente na área de seleção e embalagem de um packing house de uvas de mesa climatizado com sistema de resfriamento evaporativo, caracterizar a variabilidade térmica espacial e identificar pontos críticos de controle. As variáveis climáticas temperatura, umidade relativa e velocidade do vento foram avaliadas nos períodos seco e chuvoso, às 10:00, 13:00 e 15:00 h. Foram avaliados dois tratamentos: com os resfriadores evaporativos ligados e desligados. A distribuição espacial das variáveis foi mapeada por krigagem. O sistema de resfriamento evaporativo melhorou as condições térmicas na área de seleção e embalagem do packing house, mas não garantiu a homogeneização. Pontos críticos foram identificados no início da linha de beneficiamento, uma região mais distante dos resfriadores, marcada à direita nos mapas de krigagem. O uso da geoestatística e dos mapas de krigagem permitiu identificar a variabilidade espacial dos atributos climáticos e localizar regiões problemáticas, possibilitando correções pontuais para fatores que comprometem o conforto térmico humano.

ABSTRACT The acclimatization of packing houses is essential for human well-being, and, as it is a production environment, it is desirable that environmental variables are homogeneous. Therefore, this study was conducted with the aim of evaluating the environment in the selection and packaging area of a climate-controlled grape packing house with an evaporative cooling system, characterizing the spatial thermal variability and identifying critical control points. The climatic variables temperature, relative humidity and wind speed were analyzed, at 10:00, 13:00 and 15:00 h during the dry and rainy seasons. Two treatments were evaluated: with evaporative coolers switched on and switched off. The spatial distribution of the variables was mapped by kriging. The evaporative cooling system improved the thermal conditions in the selection and packaging area of the packing house but did not ensure homogenization. Critical points were identified at the beginning of the processing line, in a region further away from the coolers. The use of geostatistics and kriging maps made it possible to identify the spatial variability of climatic attributes and localize problematic regions, which allowed targeted corrections to be made to the factors that compromise human thermal comfort.

RESUMO O uso de águas com alta concentração de sais no cultivo do cajueiro se faz necessário na região semiárida do Nordeste brasileiro, devido à escassez hídrica e à má distribuição das chuvas. O excesso de sais na água é um fator limitante para a produção agrícola. Nesse cenário, estratégias têm sido empregadas para mitigar os efeitos nocivos do estresse salino sobre as plantas, destacando-se o uso do ácido salicílico. Com isso, o objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar os efeitos da aplicação foliar de ácido salicílico sobre os aspectos fisiológicos e crescimento do cajueiro anão precoce cultivado sob estresse salino na fase de pré-floração. O experimento foi conduzido em casa de vegetação utilizando o delineamento em blocos casualizados, em arranjo fatorial 5 × 4, com cinco níveis de condutividade elétrica da água de irrigação (CEa - 0,4; 1,2; 2,0; 2,8 e 3,6 dS m-1) e quatro concentrações de ácido salicílico - AS (0, 1, 2 e 3 mM), com três repetições. O ácido salicílico, aplicado na concentração de 1 mM, atenuou os efeitos do estresse salino na morfofisiologia do cajueiro durante a fase de pré-floração, especialmente em plantas irrigadas com CEa de até 1,2 dS m-1. Por outro lado, a concentração de 3 mM AS elevou os efeitos negativos do estresse salino no teor relativo de água, extravasamento de eletrólitos, pigmentos fotossintéticos, trocas gasosas e crescimento de cajueiro anão precoce, particularmente em CEa de 3,6 dS m-1.

ABSTRACT The use of water with high concentration of salts in cashew cultivation is a necessity in the semi-arid region of Northeast Brazil, due to water scarcity and poor rainfall distribution. Excess salts in water are a limiting factor for agricultural production. In this scenario, strategies have been employed to mitigate the harmful effects of salt stress on plants, and the use of salicylic acid stands out. With this, the aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of foliar application of salicylic acid on the physiology and growth of early dwarf cashew grown under salt stress in the pre-flowering stage. The experiment was conducted in a greenhouse using a randomized block design, in a 5 × 4 factorial arrangement, with five levels of electrical conductivity of irrigation water (ECw - 0.4, 1.2, 2.0, 2.8, and 3.6 dS m-1) and four concentrations of salicylic acid (SA - 0, 1, 2, and 3 mM), with three replicates. Salicylic acid, applied at a concentration of 1 mM, mitigated the negative impacts of salt stress on the morphophysiology of cashew during the pre-flowering phase, especially in plants irrigated with ECw of up to 1.2 dS m-1. On the other hand, the concentration of 3 mM SA exacerbated the effects of salt stress on the relative water content, electrolyte leakage, photosynthetic pigments, gas exchange, and growth of early dwarf cashew, particularly at ECw of 3.6 dS m-1.

RESUMO A utilização de testes eficientes, rápidos e de baixo custo, é fundamental nos programas de controle da qualidade de sementes. No presente estudo, almeja-se adequar as metodologias dos testes de pH de exsudato e precocidade de emissão de raiz para sementes de coentro. O delineamento experimental foi o inteiramente casualizado com quatro repetições de 50 sementes. Quatro lotes de sementes da cv. Super Verdão foram avaliados em relação ao grau de umidade, primeira contagem, germinação, emergência, índice de velocidade de emergência, envelhecimento acelerado, massa seca total de plântulas e tetrazólio. No teste do pH de exsudato, os tempos de embebição foram de 30, 60, 90 e 120 minutos a 20, 25 e 30 °C. O teste de precocidade de emissão de raiz primária foi conduzido a 20, 25 e 30 °C, iniciando as avaliações com 24 horas após a instalação, com intervalos de 12 horas e finalizando com 120 horas. O teste de pH de exsudato a 20 °C por 30 minutos classificou os lotes de forma semelhante ao teste de germinação, no entanto, não foi eficiente nos testes de vigor. O teste de precocidade de emissão de raiz mostrou-se eficaz na classificação do vigor de lotes de sementes de coentro, sendo conduzido a 20 °C, com avaliação após 60 horas.

ABSTRACT The use of efficient, fast, and low-cost tests is essential in seed quality control programs. The objective of this study was to adapt exudate pH and primary root emergence tests for coriander (Coriandrum sativum) seeds. A completely randomized experimental design was used, with four replications of 50 seeds. Four coriander (C. sativum cv. Super Verdão) seed batches were evaluated for moisture content, first count, germination, emergence, emergence speed index, seedling total dry weight, and subjected to accelerated aging and tetrazolium tests. Exudate pH tests were conducted using soaking times of 30, 60, 90, and 120 minutes at 20, 25, and 30 °C. Primary root emergence tests were conducted at 20, 25, and 30 °C, starting observations 24 hours after the beginning of the test at 12-hour intervals and concluding after 120 hours. The exudate pH test at 20 °C for 30 minutes classified the batches similarly to the germination test, but differently from vigor tests. The primary root emergence test conducted at 20 °C, with evaluation after 60 hours, effectively classifies the vigor of coriander seed batches.

RESUMO O conforto térmico adequado para o cultivo de plantas em ambientes protegidos está intrinsecamente ligado às propriedades das coberturas translúcidas. Este estudo investigou a influência de três tipos de filmes plásticos (difusor, transparente e leitoso) em três estufas agrícolas em Fortaleza, CE. O objetivo foi analisar as condições de temperatura e umidade relativa do ar, buscando recomendações para otimizar o desempenho das estufas. Dez estações de monitoramento foram distribuídas, três para cada cobertura plástica e uma externa; as leituras foram coletadas a 2 m de altura sendo equipadas com sensores de temperatura e umidade relativa do ar (SHT31). A coleta de dados ocorreu de 11 a 27 de julho de 2023, com leituras a cada 5 min (totalizando 12 leituras por hora), tratadas posteriormente por regressão linear. Diferenças significativas nas madrugadas (1 e 5%) entre as coberturas para temperatura e umidade relativa do ar foram observadas. Comparando os filmes, difusor × transparente e difusor × leitoso mostraram diferenças a 5 e 1%, respectivamente, enquanto transparente x leitoso não apresentaram diferenças. Durante o período das 12 horas, o filme difusor exibiu menores variações de temperatura. Conclui-se que a cobertura difusora proporcionou as menores temperaturas e menores variações ao longo do dia, sendo estatisticamente diferente dos filmes leitoso e transparente nos horários mais quentes. Esses resultados oferecem percepções cruciais para otimizar as condições em estufas agrícolas, contribuindo para práticas eficientes de cultivo protegido.

ABSTRACT Adequate thermal comfort for plant growth in protected environments is associated with properties of translucent coverings. This study investigated the influence of three types of plastic films (diffuser, transparent, and milky) at three agricultural greenhouses in Fortaleza city, CE, Brazil. The objective of this study was to analyze air temperature and relative air humidity conditions, seeking recommendations to optimize plant growth performance in greenhouses. Ten monitoring stations were distributed, three for each plastic covering and one external; readings were taken 2 m above the ground level, using temperature and relative air humidity sensors (SHT31). Data were collected from July 11 to July 27, 2023, with readings every 5 min (totaling 12 readings per hour) and subsequently processed through linear regression. The tested coverings resulted in different temperature and relative air humidity during early morning hours (1 and 5%). The comparison between diffuser and transparent, and diffuser and milky films showed differences at 5 and 1%, respectively, while transparent and milky films did not show differences. The diffuser film exhibited lower temperature variations throughout a 12-hour period. The diffuser covering provided the lowest temperatures and smaller variations throughout the day, which was significantly different from milky and transparent films during warmer hours. These results provide valuable information for optimizing conditions in agricultural greenhouses, contributing to sustainable and efficient practices in protected cultivation.

RESUMO A germinação controlada é um procedimento simples e de baixo custo que busca melhorar a qualidade nutricional, funcional e sensorial de sementes destinadas à alimentação. As condições de germinação influenciam diretamente na composição final do broto, sendo função principalmente do tempo de processo. Assim, objetivou-se examinar os efeitos de períodos de germinação nas propriedades nutricionais de sementes de feijão lima das variedades ‘Orelha-de-Vó Preta’, ‘Raio-de-Sol’, ‘Branca’ e ‘Raio-de-Sol Grande’. Foram avaliados os teores de água, proteínas, amido, açúcares totais e redutores, compostos fenólicos totais, taninos, flavonoides e antocianinas nos tempos 0, 24, 48, 72 e 96 horas. Os dados foram processados em delineamento inteiramente casualizado e dispostos em esquema fatorial (4 × 5), com três repetições. O processo de germinação aumentou o teor de proteína e reduziu o teor de amido; promovendo o aumento parcial dos açúcares redutores e dos açúcares totais. Os compostos fenólicos totais, taninos, flavonóides e antocianinas aumentaram com o tempo de processo, atingindo valores máximos absolutos entre 72 e 96 horas. A variedade ‘Orelha-de-Vó Preta’ apresentou os maiores valores de compostos fenólicos totais e antocianinas; o teor de flavonóides foi maior na ‘Orelha-de-Vó Preta’ e no ‘Raio-de-Sol Grande’, enquanto a variedade ‘Branca’ apresentou o maior teor de taninos totais. Portanto, conclui-se que a germinação demonstrou ser um processo capaz de aprimorar a composição nutricional e funcional do feijão lima.

ABSTRACT Controlled germination is a simple low-cost procedure to improve the nutritional, functional and sensory quality of seeds intended for food. Germination conditions directly influence the final composition of the sprout, being mainly a function of the process time. Thus, the aim was to examine the effects of germination periods on the nutritional properties of lima bean seeds of the varieties ‘Orelha-de-Vó Preta’, ‘Raio-de-Sol’, ‘Branca’, and ‘Raio-de-Sol Grande’. The water content, proteins, starch, total and reducing sugars, total phenolic compounds, tannins, flavonoids, and anthocyanins were evaluated at times 0, 24, 48, 72, and 96 hours. The data was processed in a completely randomized design and arranged in a factorial scheme (4 × 5), with three replicates. The germination process increased the protein content and reduced the starch content, promoting a partial increase in reducing sugars and total sugars. The total phenolic compounds, tannins, flavonoids, and anthocyanins increased with the process time, reaching absolute maximum values between 72 and 96 hours. The variety ‘Orelha-de-Vó Preta’ presented the highest values of total phenolic compounds and anthocyanins; the flavonoid content was higher in ‘Orelha-de-Vó Preta’ and ‘Raio-de-Sol Grande’, while the variety ‘Branca’ presented the highest of total tannins content. Therefore, it is concluded that germination has proven to be a process capable of enhancing the nutritional and functional composition of lima beans.

RESUMO A disposição de resíduos sólidos em aterros sanitários é um grande desafio para o setor de celulose e papel, e sua utilização como fertilizantes e corretivos de solo tem apresentado potencial como uma nova alternativa de destino. Assim, este trabalho objetivou identificar os fatores que influenciam esta alternativa de destinação dos resíduos e validar sua viabilidade técnica, legal e econômica através de uma revisão sistemática de literatura, de acordo com os principais itens para relatar revisões sistemáticas e meta-análises. De forma geral, foram identificados como benefícios o aumento da fertilidade e controle da acidez do solo através da aplicação de lodo de estações de tratamento de efluentes, resíduos da recuperação do licor verde e cinzas de biomassa, e os teores de metais tóxicos se mantiveram abaixo dos limites da legislação. Estes resultados, além de alavancarem ambientalmente o setor de celulose e papel pela destinação adequada de resíduos industriais, promovem a circularidade no manejo florestal e culturas agrícolas. Em relação aos aspectos econômicos, no entanto, não foram encontrados trabalhos conclusivos, sendo necessário o desenvolvimento de um estudo robusto para comprovação da viabilidade econômica desta aplicação.

ABSTRACT Industrial waste disposal in landfills is a challenge for the pulp and paper industry, and its use as fertilizers and soil conditioners has exhibited potential as a new alternative destination. As such, the present study aimed to identify factors that affect this alternative use for these residues and validate its technical, legal and economic feasibility through a systematic literature review based on the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) protocol. In general, applying wastewater treatment plant sludge, green liquor dregs and biomass ashes in the field has been shown to increase soil fertility, control its acidity, and maintain toxic metal content within the recommended limits. This enables the environmental leveraging of the pulp and paper sector by providing an appropriate alternative destination for industrial waste and promotes circularity in forest and agricultural management. However, no conclusive studies on the economic aspects of this alternative application were found, demonstrating the importance of conducting comprehensive research to confirm its economic feasibility.

RESUMO: A qualidade das sementes é uma característica essencial para a reprodução das espécies. Cenostigma pyramidalis apresenta características importantes para fins de recuperação de áreas degradadas. No entretanto, por ser encontrada na Caatinga, esta espécie tende a ser mais propensa à infecção por fitopatógenos. Portanto, é importante tratar tais sementes para evitar a incidência dos fungos antes e após o plantio. Uma dessas alternativa é o uso do silício que pode contribuir com o aumento do vigor e no controle de doenças. Neste cenário, objetivou-se avaliar diferentes fontes de silício no controle de fungos de ocorrência natural associados às sementes de C. pyramidalis, e sua qualidade fisiológica. O experimento foi desenvolvido no Laboratório de Fitopatologia, da Universidade Federal da Paraíba, Campus II, Areia-PB. As sementes, após escarificação para superação de dormência foram tratadas com: T1 - Controle; T2 - Captana, T3 - Agrosilício plus®; T4 - Rocksil®; T5 - Sifol®; T6 - Chelal®; T7 - Bugram®. O experimento foi conduzido em delineamento inteiramente casualizado. As sementes foram submetidas aos testes de sanidade, germinação e emergência. Foram utilizadas 100 sementes por tratamento para os testes de germinação e emergência em quatro repetições cada um com 25 sementes, enquanto para o teste de sanidade foram utilizadas 10 repetições de 10 sementes cada. Todas as fontes de silício foram eficientes no controle dos fungos Aspergillus spp., Cladosporium sp. e Penicillium sp. em sementes de C. pyramidalis. O tratamento com Sifol® é recomendado para controlar a incidência de fungos sem afetar a qualidade fisiológica das sementes.

ABSTRACT Seed quality is an essential characteristic for species reproduction. In this scenario, Cenostigma pyramidalis has important characteristics for the purpose of recovering degraded areas. However, because it is found in the Caatinga, this species tends to be more prone to infection by phytopathogens. Therefore, it is important to treat its seeds to prevent the incidence of fungi before and after planting. One of these alternatives is the use of silicon, which can contribute to increased vigor and disease control. In this scenario, the objective was to evaluate different sources of silicon in the control of naturally occurring fungi associated with C. pyramidalis seeds, and their physiological quality. The experiment was carried out at the Phytopathology Laboratory of the Federal University of Paraíba, Campus II, Areia, PB, Brazil. The seeds, after scarification to overcome dormancy, were treated with: T1 - Control; T2 - Captana, T3 - Agrosilício plus®; T4 - Rocksil®; T5 - Sifol®; T6 - Chelal®; and T7 - Bugram®. The experiment was conducted in a completely randomized design. The seeds were subjected to sanitary, germination, and emergence tests. 100 seeds were used per treatment for the germination and emergence tests in four replicates each with 25 seeds, while for the health test 10 replicates of 10 seeds each were used. All silicon sources were efficient in controlling Aspergillus spp., Cladosporium sp., and Penicillium sp. fungi in C. pyramidalis seeds. The treatment with Sifol® is recommended to control the incidence of fungi without affecting the physiological quality of seeds.

RESUMO A fruticultura é uma atividade de grande relevância para o agronegócio no Brasil, com destaque para a goiabeira. Entretanto, a deficiência hídrica é um dos fatores limitantes para a produtividade das plantas, onde a utilização de fitohormônios, como o ácido salicílico, tem sido empregado como uma estratégia para mitigar os efeitos do déficit hídrico. O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar a aplicação foliar de ácido salicílico como atenuador do déficit hídrico em materiais genéticos de goiabeira. O delineamento experimental adotado foi em blocos ao acaso, em esquema fatorial 2 × 2 × 5, considerando dois regimes hídricos (lâminas de irrigação equivalentes a 50 e 100% da evapotranspiração de referência - ETr), dois materiais genéticos de goiabeira (‘Crioula’ e ‘Paluma’) e cinco concentrações de ácido salicílico (0, 1,2, 2,4, 3,6 e 4,8 mM). A aplicação foliar de ácido salicílico na concentração de 2,4 mM promoveu efeito benéfico no crescimento, nas trocas gasosas e na fluorescência da clorofila a da goiabeira ‘Crioula’ sob irrigação com 50% da ETr. O déficit hídrico reduziu o crescimento, as trocas gasosas, o conteúdo de clorofila e a fluorescência da clorofila a da goiabeira. Dentre os materiais genéticos, a ‘Paluma’ obteve maior crescimento, trocas gasosas, teores de clorofila e fluorescência da clorofila a em comparação com a ‘Crioula’ sob irrigação com 50% da ETr sem aplicação foliar de ácido salicílico. A aplicação foliar de ácido salicílico na concentração de 1,2 mM aumentou a área foliar, o número de folhas e a fitomassa seca total no material genético ‘Crioula’ sob 50% de ETr.

ABSTRACT Fruit growing is an activity of great relevance for agribusiness in Brazil, with emphasis on guava. However, water deficiency is one of the limiting factors for plant productivity, so the use of phytohormones such as salicylic acid has been employed as a strategy to mitigate the effects of water deficit. The objective of this study was to evaluate the foliar application of salicylic acid as an attenuator of water deficit in guava genetic materials. The experimental design adopted was randomized blocks, in a 2 × 2 × 5 factorial scheme, considering two water regimes (irrigation depths equivalent to 50 and 100% of the reference evapotranspiration - ETr), two guava genetic materials (‘Crioula’ and ‘Paluma’) and five concentrations of salicylic acid (0, 1.2, 2.4, 3.6, and 4.8 mM). Foliar application of salicylic acid at a concentration of 2.4 mM promoted growth, gas exchange, and chlorophyll a fluorescence of ‘Crioula’ guava under irrigation with 50% ETr. Water deficit reduced growth, gas exchange, chlorophyll contents, and chlorophyll a fluorescence of guava. Among the genetic materials, greater growth, gas exchange, chlorophyll contents, and chlorophyll a fluorescence was observed in ‘Paluma’ compared to ‘Crioula’ under irrigation with 50% ETr without foliar application of salicylic acid. Foliar application of salicylic acid at a concentration of 1.2 mM increases leaf area, number of leaves, and total dry mass in the ‘Crioula’ genetic material under 50% ETr.

RESUMO A principal técnica usada para controlar a umidade e temperatura dos grãos em armazéns é o processo de aeração. A uniformidade do fluxo de ar nesse processo é fundamental para manter a qualidade do produto armazenado, e a modelagem matemática e simulação computacional são ferramentas fundamentais para otimizar o projeto desses sistemas. O objetivo do presente estudo é a realização de uma análise comparativa entre o modelo Khatchatourian e o modelo Darcy-Forchheimer, buscando identificar a viabilidade da utilização do modelo Darcy-Forchheimer para simulação do fluxo de ar em armazéns de soja. Neste trabalho, foram realizadas simulações do mesmo armazém utilizando o modelo Khatchatourian e o modelo Dary-Forchheimer. O Modelo Darcy-Forchheimer reproduziu adequadamente os dados experimentais, mas para simulações realizadas no domínio de um armazém, o modelo Khatchatourian apresentou um comportamento mais realista. Para a aplicação do modelo Darcy-Forhheimer deve ser considerado o efeito de compactação dos grãos, de tal forma que os parâmetros D e F dependam da altura da camada do produto. Além disso, as condições de contorno devem ser consideradas como pressão constante em vez de fluxo constante.

ABSTRACT The primary method for managing grain moisture and temperature in silos is through the aeration process. Ensuring uniform airflow in this process is essential for preserving the quality of the stored product. Mathematical modeling and computer simulation are important for optimizing the design of these systems. The objective of this study was to make a comparative analysis between the Khatchatourian model and the Darcy-Forchheimer model to identify the feasibility of using the Darcy-Forchheimer model for simulating airflow in soybean silos. Simulations were performed using the two models for the same silo. The Darcy-Forchheimer model adequately simulated the experimental data, but for simulations within the domain of a silo, the Khatchatourian model exhibited a more realistic result. The effect of grain compaction should be considered for the application of the Darcy-Forchheimer model, as parameters D and F depend on the height of the product layer. Boundary conditions should be considered constant pressure rather than constant flow.

RESUMO Os efeitos da restrição hídrica no feijão-caupi podem ser revertidos pelo uso de substâncias elicitoras, tais como o ácido salicílico (AS). Desta forma, objetivou-se avaliar o status hídrico, a integridade celular e o crescimento de cultivares de feijão-caupi sob restrição hídrica e pulverização com ácido salicílico em campo. Quatro cultivares de feijão-caupi (BRS Novaera, BRS Tapaihum, BRS Pujante e BRS Pajeu) foram submetidas a duas lâminas de irrigação (restrição hídrica com 50% de reposição da água perdida por evapotranspiração da cultura - ETc e controle com 100% de reposição da ETc) e três concentrações de AS (0, 276 e 552 mg L-1 de AS), combinados em esquema fatorial 4 × 2 × 3, com três repetições, dispostos em delineamento de blocos casualizados. O conteúdo relativo de água na folha (CRA), vazamento de eletrólitos intracelulares (VE), massa da matéria fresca total (MFT) e taxa de crescimento relativo da parte aérea (TCRA) foram avaliados nos estádios fenológicos V7 e R2. A restrição hídrica reduziu CRA, MFT e TCRA e aumentou VE, enquanto a pulverização com 276 mg L-1 de AS reduziu VE e aumentou CRA, MFT e TCRA das cultivares de feijão-caupi sob restrição hídrica, respostas que variam de acordo com a cultivar e estádio fenológico. A cultivar BRS Novaera mostrou-se mais responsiva a aplicação de AS no estádio V7.

ABSTRACT The effects of water restriction on cowpea can be reversed by the use of eliciting substances such as salicylic acid (SA). Thus, the objective was to evaluate the water status, cellular integrity and growth of cowpea cultivars under water restriction and spraying with salicylic acid in the field. Four cowpea cultivars (BRS Novaera, BRS Tapaihum, BRS Pujante and BRS Pajeu) were subjected to two irrigation levels (water restriction with 50% replacement of water lost through crop evapotranspiration - ETc and control with 100% replacement of ETc) and three concentrations of SA (0, 276 and 552 mg L-1 of SA), combined in a 4 × 2 × 3 factorial scheme, with three replicates, arranged in a randomized block design. Relative leaf water content (RWC), intracellular electrolyte leakage (IEL), total fresh mass (TFM) and shoot relative growth rate (SRGR) were evaluated at phenological stages V7 and R2. Water restriction reduced RWC, TFM and SRGR and increased IEL, while spraying with 276 mg L-1 of SA reduced IEL and increased RWC, TFM and SRGR of cowpea cultivars under water restriction, responses that vary according to the cultivar and phenological stage. The cultivar BRS Novaera was more responsive to the application of SA at the V7 stage.
