ABSTRACT The Brazilian Amazon encompasses about 29% of the orchid species in Brazil. With the aim of contributing to the knowledge of the Amazonian flora, a taxonomic study of Orchidaceae was carried out in a forest fragment in the municipality of Capitão Poço, located in the Belém Endemism Center, the most deforested area in the Amazon. The fragment is locally referred to as Reserva São Geraldo Majela (RSGM) and is entirely surrounded by agricultural lands. Specimens were collected from February 2020 to April 2022 and deposited in the HCP herbarium, the analysis being complemented by consulting the collections of relevant herbaria. We provide descriptions and an identification key for the eight species of Orchidaceae recorded in RSGM, all of them showing a wide geographic distribution. Seven of them are epiphytes: Campylocentrum fasciola, Campylocentrum micranthum, Catasetum macrocarpum, Erycina pusilla, Notylia lyrata, Polystachya concreta, Rodriguezia lanceolata; and one is terrestrial: Oeceoclades maculata. These findings represent 65% of the previously recorded orchid species for the municipality of Capitão Poço and reinforce the importance of conserving the forest remnants in the region.

RESUMO A Amazônia Brasileira abrange cerca de 29% das espécies de orquídeas do Brasil. Visando contribuir para o conhecimento sobre a flora amazônica, realizou-se um estudo taxonômico de Orchidaceae em um fragmento florestal do município de Capitão Poço, localizado no Centro de Endemismo Belém, o mais desflorestado da Amazônia. O fragmento é denominado localmente de Reserva São Geraldo Majela (RSGM) e está totalmente circundado por matriz agrícola. Espécimes foram coletados de fevereiro de 2020 a abril de 2022 e depositados no herbário HCP, sendo a análise complementada por consultas às coleções de herbários relevantes. São fornecidas descrições e uma chave de identificação para as oito espécies de Orchidaceae registradas na RSGM, todas apresentando ampla distribuição geográfica. Sete destas espécies são epífitas: Campylocentrum fasciola, Campylocentrum micranthum, Catasetum macrocarpum, Erycina pusilla, Notylia lyrata, Polystachya concreta, Rodriguezia lanceolata, e uma é terrícola: Oeceoclades maculata. Esses achados representam 65% das espécies de orquídeas previamente registradas para o município e reforçam a importância de conservar remanescentes florestais na região.

ABSTRACT The aim of this work was to evaluate the efficiency of native and exotic isolates of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) in promoting the growth of micropropagated seedlings of Pseudobombax simplicifolium S. Robyns during the acclimatization phase. The experiment was conducted in the greenhouse in an entirely randomized design with three inoculation treatments; Entrophospora etunicata (autochthonous), Acaulospora longula (exotic) and a non-inoculated control group. Seedlings were acclimated in soil and vermiculite (2:1 v/v) in 10 repetitions for each treatment totaling 30 experimental plots. At the end of the experiment, mycorrhized P. simplicifolium seedlings presented better development than those not inoculated. Although the inoculum with native AMF of E. etunicata was more efficient in colonizing the plants, the increments in leaf area, fresh and dry biomass were similar to those provided by the exotic AMF species (A. longula). It is concluded that during the acclimatization phase, P. simplicifolium seedlings present great vegetative development when mycorrhized, regardless of the origin of the fungal isolates tested in this study.

RESUMO O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a eficiência de isolados nativos e exóticos de fungos micorrízicos arbusculares (FMA) na promoção do crescimento de plântulas micropropagadas de Pseudobombax simplicifolium S. Robyns durante a fase de aclimatização. O experimento foi realizado em casa de vegetação em delineamento inteiramente casualizado em três tratamentos de inoculação; Entrophospora etunicata (autóctone), Acaulospora longula (exótico) e um grupo testemunha não inoculado. As plântulas foram aclimatizadas em solo e vermiculita (2:1 v/v) em 10 repetições para cada tratamento totalizando 30 parcelas experimentais. Ao final do experimento, mudas de P. simplicifolium micorrizadas apresentaram melhor desenvolvimento comparado às não inoculadas. Apesar do inóculo com FMA nativo de E. etunicata ter sido mais eficiente em colonizar as plantas, os incrementos na área foliar, biomassa fresca e seca foram similares aos proporcionados pela espécie exótica de FMA (A. longula). Conclui-se que durante a fase de aclimatização, mudas de P. simplicifolium têm o desenvolvimento vegetativo beneficiado pela micorrização, independente da origem dos isolados fúngicos testados nesse estudo.

ABSTRACT Cyrtopodium R. Br. is a neotropical genus with 50 species, of which 37 are present in Brazil, especially in the Cerrado, its center of diversity and endemism. Works on the genus for the country are limited to classical literature, a synoptical treatment, descriptions of new species, and floristic listings. We present a taxonomic synopsis for Cyrtopodium species occurring in the municipality of Niquelândia, Goiás State, Brazil. Fourteen species were found (C. blanchetii, C. braemii, C. brandonianum, C. brunneum, C. cristatum, C. confusum, C. eugenii, C. paludicolum, C. poecilum, C. saintlegerianum, C. triste, C. vernum, C. virescens and C. withnerii), among which C. confusum constitutes a new record for the Goiás State. The species are contrasted by means of a key, have their geographic distributions and morphological relationships commented and are represented by images. Cyrtopodium confusum, the novelty registered here, is described and its distribution mapped.

RESUMO Cyrtopodium R. Br. é um táxon neotropical com 50 espécies, das quais 37 estão presentes no Brasil, especialmente no Cerrado, seu centro de diversidade e endemismo. Trabalhos sobre o gênero no país resumem-se à literatura clássica, a um tratamento sinóptico, a descrição de novas espécies e a listagens florísticas. Apresentamos uma sinopse taxonômica para os taxa de Cyrtopodium ocorrentes no munucípio de Niquelândia, Estado de Goiás, Brasil. Foram encontradas 14 espécies (C. blanchetii, C. braemii, C. brandonianum, C. brunneum, C. cristatum, C. confusum, C. eugenii, C. paludicolum, C. poecilum, C. saintlegerianum, C. triste, C. vernum, C. virescens e C. withnerii), dentre as quais C. confusum é interpretada como a primeira ocorrência para o Estado de Goiás. Tais espécies são contrastadas por meio de uma chave de identificação, têm suas distribuições geográficas e relações morfológicas comentadas e são representadas por imagens. Cyrtopodium confusum, a novidade aqui registrada, é descrita e tem sua distribuição mapeada.

ABSTRACT We investigated intensity and seasonality of the reproductive phenology of Passiflora cincinnata Mast. and estimated its flowering and fruiting periods by interpolation using Inverse Distance Weighting, for the first time in phenology, based on herbarium collections from Bahia State, Northeastern Brazil. Data from 249 exsiccates with flowers and/or fruits were analyzed to estimate the amplitude of flowering and fruiting and test the seasonality using the circular statistics. Passiflora cincinnata flowering and fruiting was greatest from October to May. The maps generated by interpolation showed greatest probability of flowering and fruiting between March and May in sites with mean annual rainfall rates between 500 and 1000 mm. Our results indicated seasonality of flowering and fruiting, with reduced intensities during the austral winter. The interpolation methodology can be used in a complementary or preliminary way, either to organize field visits and set up experiments, or to extrapolate field results for larger-scale views.

RESUMO Nós investigamos intensidade e sazonalidade da fenologia reprodutiva de Passiflora cincinnata Mast. e estimamos seus períodos de floração e frutificação por interpolação usando a Ponderação Inversa da Distância, apresentada pela primeira vez em fenologia, com base em coleções de herbários do Estado da Bahia. Dados de 249 exsicatas com flores e/ou frutos foram analisados para estimar amplitude de floração e frutificação e testar sazonalidade usando estatística circular. A floração e frutificação de P. cincinnata foram maiores de outubro a maio. Os mapas gerados por interpolação mostraram maior probabilidade de floração e frutificação entre março e maio em locais com índices pluviométricos médios anuais entre 500 e 1000 mm. Nossos resultados indicaram sazonalidade de floração e frutificação, com intensidades reduzidas durante o inverno austral. A metodologia de interpolação pode ser utilizada de forma complementar ou preliminar, seja para organizar visitas a campo e montar experimentos, seja para extrapolar resultados de campo para visualizações em maior escala.

ABSTRACT The family Selenastraceae belongs to the order Chlorococcales of Class Chlorophyceae. It contains elongated cells, which may be straight or variously warped. The present study was conducted in the Chandrapur district of Maharashtra State, India to find out the algal diversity in the major rivers Wardha, Painganga, and wain ganga. The paper reveals the diversity and distribution of twenty-four taxa of six genera of the family Selenastraceae in these major rivers of the Chandrapur district.

RESUMO A família Selenastraceae pertence à ordem Chlorococcales da classe Chlorophyceae. Ela contém células alongadas, que podem ser retas ou deformadas de várias maneiras. O presente estudo foi conduzido no distrito de Chandrapur, no Estado de Maharashtra, Índia, para descobrir a diversidade de algas nos principais rios Wardha, Painganga e Wain Ganga. O artigo revela a diversidade e distribuição de vinte e quatro táxons de seis gêneros da família Selenastraceae nesses principais rios do distrito de Chandrapur.

ABSTRACT The tetrazolium test is a fast and effective method to determine seed viability. In this context, the objective was to adapt the methodology of the tetrazolium test, in relation to preconditioning, to determine the viability (Eugenia stipitata McVaugh ssp. sororia McVaugh) under different times of immersion in solution and seed size. The seeds of E. stipitata ssp. sororia need to go through preconditioning, fractionation being an indispensable technique to be performed before immersion of the seed in the tetrazolium solution, as it allows the contact of the salt with the tissue to be analyzed, which, when feasible, staining occurs (formation of the substance triphenyl-formazan). The immersion time of 26 hours in the tetrazolium solution (1% at 26 °C) is indicated for determining the viability of E. stipitata ssp. sororia seeds, regardless of the seed mass classes used.

RESUMO O teste de tetrazólio é um método rápido e eficaz para obter a viabilidade de sementes. Neste contexto, objetivou-se adequar a metodologia do teste de tetrazólio, em relação ao pré-condicionamento, para determinar a viabilidade de sementes de araçá-boi (Eugenia stipitata McVaugh ssp. sororia McVaugh) sob diferente tempo de imersão em solução e tamanho de semente. As sementes de E. stipitata ssp. sororia necessitam-se passar pelo pré-condicionamento, sendo o fracionamento uma técnica indispensável de ser realizada antes da imersão da semente na solução de tetrazólio, pois permite o contato do sal com o tecido a ser analisado, que quando viável ocorre a coloração (formação da substância trifenil-formazan). O tempo de imersão de 26 horas na solução de tetrazólio (1% a 26 °C) é indicado na determinação da viabilidade de sementes de Eugenia stipitata ssp. sororia. independentemente da classe de semente utilizada.

ABSTRACT The genus Entoloma includes species with agaricoid, secotioid and gasteroid basidiomes. In recent years, some studies have been conducted with this genus in the northeastern region of Brazil. In this context, the state of Bahia has only Entoloma serrulatum and E. cyathiforme. In order to contribute to the knowledge of this genus in the state, this work presents a new occurrence of Entoloma for the State of Bahia. The specimen was collected during an expedition in the Serra do Conduru State Park, in southern Bahia. After the morphological analyses, the species Entoloma wednae was identified. This is the first record of the species for the State, and the third record in the scientific literature.

RESUMO O gênero Entoloma, abriga espécies com basidiomas agaricoides, secotioides e gasteroides. Nos últimos anos, poucos estudos foram realizados com esse gênero na região nordeste do Brasil. Neste contexto, encontra-se o Estado da Bahia, que conta com apenas o registro de Entoloma serrulatum e E. cyathiforme. Com o objetivo de contribuir para o conhecimento deste gênero no Estado, este trabalho apresenta uma nova ocorrência de Entoloma para o Estado da Bahia. O espécime foi coletado numa expedição realizada no Parque estadual da Serra do Conduru, no sul da Bahia. Após a análise morfológica a espécie Entoloma wednae foi identificada. Esse é o primeiro registro da espécie para o Estado, e o terceiro registro da mesma para a literatura científica.

ABSTRACT In this study, we demonstrated that Tetranychus urticae Koch (Acari: Tetranychidae), a generalist herbivore, induces volatile organic compounds (VOC) in Croton floribundus Spreng., a pioneer species widely used in Brazilian urban area. We performed experiments to evaluate the quality and quantity of VOC emission at different times (two, six and 24 hours and within four and nine days) of infestation by T. urticae. Results show that C. floribundus emitted 23 volatiles after infestation, including monoterpene, sesquiterpene and green leaf volatiles. Significant differences were only detected between infested and non-infested plants after 24 hours of treatment, in particular methyl salicylate. In contrast, 3-hexen-1ol, linaool, geranyl acetone and caryophyllene seem to be inhibited by hourly infestation. The α-farnesene, methyl salicylate, 3-carene, 3-hexen-1ol benzoate and nerolidol were the main compounds induced after four infestation-days. This study highlights that VOCs blends in C. floribundus is depended on the feeding time-course of T. urticae and suggests that the VOC-mediated ecological interaction may be less efficient in a pioneer species.

RESUMO Neste estudo foi demonstrado que o Tetranychus urticae Koch (Acari: Tetranychidae), um herbívoro generalista, promove a emissão de compostos orgânicos voláteis (COV) em Croton floribundus (L.) Spreng., uma espécie pioneira amplamente utilizada na área urbana brasileira. Avaliou-se a qualidade e quantidade de emissão de COV em diferentes momentos (2, 6 e 24 horas e no intervalo de 4 e 9 dias) de infestação por T. urticae. Os resultados mostram que C. floribundus emitiu 23 voláteis após infestação, incluindo monoterpenos, sesquiterpenos e voláteis de folhas verdes. Diferenças significativas entre plantas infestadas e não infestadas foram detectadas após 24 horas de tratamento, em particular foram observadas alterações nos níveis de metil salicitato. Em contraste, o 3-hexen-1ol, linaool, geranil acetona e cariofileno parecem ter sido inibidos pela infestação horária. O α-farneseno, metil salicilato, 3-careno, benzoato de 3-hexen-1ol e nerolidol foram os principais compostos induzidos após quatro dias de infestação. Este estudo demonstra que o buquet de COVs emitido por C. floribundus depende do tempo de infestação da T. urticae e sugere que a interação ecológica mediada por COVs pode ser menos eficiente em espécie pioneira.
