RESUMO A selva (1930), de Ferreira de Castro, é um romance baseado num conhecimento profundo da floresta, que, no plano narrativo, se traduz numa aposta sem precedentes na atividade de escuta. A partir de algumas sugestões desenvolvidas no âmbito dos Sound studies, o presente ensaio busca elaborar uma reflexão sobre a paisagem sonora em A selva, destacando a interação entre sons de origem biológica (biofonia e antropofonia) e não biológica (geofonia), na convicção de que, para compreender a floresta, é necessário antes de tudo saber ouvir e interpretar seus sons e seus silêncios.

ABSTRACT A selva (1930), by Ferreira de Castro, is a novel based on a deep knowledge of the forest that, on the narrative level, translates into an unprecedented bet on the activity of listening. Drawing upon suggestions developed within the scope of Sound studies, this essay reflects on the soundscape in A selva, highlighting the interaction between sounds of biological origin (biophony and anthropophony) and non-biological (geophony), in the conviction that to understand the forest, it is necessary first of all to know how to listen and interpret its sounds and silences.

RESUMO Seguindo detalhes e dados marginais encontrados na bibliografia e nos acervos disponíveis, enfocamos a inter-relação de dois cancioneiros inacabados: “Cancioneiro caipira”, de Amadeu Amaral, e “Na pancada do ganzá”, de Mário de Andrade, concebidos respectivamente nos anos 1920 e 1930. Como ativos escritores sediados em São Paulo e interessados na criação artística e nas culturas populares tradicionais, seus caminhos se cruzaram nos ambientes em que se desenvolveu o modernismo. O artigo analisa esse relacionamento e lança luz sobre elos de continuidade nas visões modernistas das tradições populares e do folclore brasileiro.

ABSTRACT Following details and marginal data in the available bibliography and archives, we focus on the interrelationship of two unfinished folkloric collections: “Cancioneiro caipira”, by Amadeu Amaral, and “Na pancada do ganzá”, by Mário de Andrade, conceived respectively in the 1920s and 1930s. As active writers based in São Paulo and interested in artistic creation and traditional popular cultures, their paths crossed in the environment in which modernism developed. The paper analyzes this interrelationship and sheds light on links of continuity in the modernist visions of popular traditions and Brazilian folklore.

RESUMO Este artigo traz algumas notas sobre o curta-metragem Choque cultural, dirigido por Zelito Viana, cujo fio condutor é a histórica entrevista de Celso Furtado ao diretor no Rio de Janeiro em 1975. Contextualizamos a entrevista e as circunstâncias que os reuniram. Sem a pretensão de fazer crítica cinematográfica, conectamos a fala de Furtado e as imagens do filme de Zelito e relacionamos as reflexões de Furtado na entrevista a suas obras publicadas no período em torno da realização do curta-metragem e nas décadas de 1980 e 1990.

ABSTRACT This article brings some notes about the short film Choque cultural, directed by Zelito Viana, whose thread is the historic interview by Celso Furtado to the director in Rio de Janeiro in 1975. We contextualize the interview and the circumstances that brought them together. Without intending to do cinematographic criticism, we connect Furtado’s speech and the images from Zelito’s film and we relate Furtado’s reflections in the interview with the works he published in the period around the making of the short film and in the 1980s and 1990s.

RESUMO No presente artigo, por meio de uma análise textual, exploraremos a recorrente presença do chapéu nos ensaios da filósofa brasileira Gilda de Mello e Souza. Em O espírito das roupas, a autora defende que a moda é muito mais do que um artigo supérfluo. Recompondo-se a cada momento, jogando com o imprevisto, dependendo do gesto, a moda é a mais humana das artes. Um simples acessório como o chapéu pode materializar a alma humana, de forma que possamos ser interpretados por aquilo que usamos em nossa cabeça. O olhar pericial de nossa autora, atento aos detalhes, e que conseguiu ver numa peça do vestuário uma constelação de significados, será aqui também analisado ao confrontarmos seus ensaios e entrevistas.

ABSTRACT In this article, through a textual analysis, we will explore the recurrent presence of the hat in in the essays of the Brazilian philosopher Gilda de Mello e Souza. In O espírito das roupas, the author demonstrates that clothes are much more than a superfluous article. Composing itself at every moment, playing with the unexpected, depending on the gesture, fashion is the most human of the arts. A simple accessory like a hat can materialize the human soul, so that we can be interpreted by what we wear. Our author’s expert look, attentive to details, and which managed to see a constellation of meanings in a piece of clothing, will also be analyzed here when we confront her essays and interviews.

Ator, diretor, dramaturgo e escritor, Oliveira é um dos fundadores do Coletivo Negro. Publicou, com o grupo, o livro Negras dramaturgias (COLETIVO NEGRO, 2015). O texto do espetáculo teatral Farinha com açúcar ou sobre a sustança de meninos e homens (OLIVEIRA, 2018), de sua autoria, foi semifinalista do prêmio Oceanos em 2019.

ABSTRACT The Creation section has the objective of publish unpublished texts and materials by writers and/or artists, photographers, designers, as well as unpublished documents found in the USP IEB Archive. “I tell you poems” gathers two tales by Jé Oliveira, “Zoom nos ouvidos e nos olhos” and “As águas e os olhos”. Actor, director, playwright and writer, Oliveira is one of the founders of Coletivo Negro. With this group, he published the book Negras dramaturgias (COLETIVO NEGRO, 2015). The text of the play Farinha com açúcar ou sobre a sustança de meninos e homens (OLIVEIRA, 2018), which he wrote, was a semi-finalist for the Oceanos award in 2019.

RESUMO O texto faz uma avaliação crítica do livro lançado em 2021 pelo geógrafo Jacques Lévy (L’humanité: un commencement. Le tournant éthique de la société-Monde). Trata-se de uma edição francesa, mas de acesso ao público brasileiro, que de forma ensaística, rigorosa e criativa procura descrever mudanças vistas como fundamentais pelo autor no mundo contemporâneo, a saber: o processo de formação de uma sociedade-Mundo; a inexorabilidade da emergência da sociedade de indivíduos; e a virada ética. Na resenha, verticalizamos a análise tratando do capítulo 9 (“Rendre le futur habitable”) como um exemplo do tom geral da obra.

ABSTRACT This essay makes a critical evaluation from the book launched in 2021 by the geographer Jacques Lévy (L’humanité: un commencement. Le tournant éthique de la société-Monde). It is a French edition, but accessible to the Brazilian public, which in a creative, essayistic and rigorous way seeks to describe changes seen as fundamental by the author in the contemporary world, namely: the formation process of a World society; the inexorability from the emergence of the society of individuals; and the ethical turn. In the review, we verticalize the analysis by treating chapter 9 (“Rendre le futur habitable”) as an example of the general tone of the work.

RESUMO Motivada por disputas envolvendo pessoas brancas e negras, analiso estratégias para lidar com o racismo nos anos 2010. Pesquisa junto a penteados de mulheres negras mostra modos explícitos de reivindicar a raça e faz pensar em mudança de paradigmas. Pesquisa em torno da estética adequada em escolas brasileiras evidencia o apagamento da raça. Os deslizes nos significados dos estereótipos expõem a estética em dimensão performativa, acionada para exercício ou enfrentamento do racismo. Vemos o constante tensionamento entre mudança e permanência e a convivência nada harmônica entre concepções sobre raça no Brasil.

ABSTRACT Motivated by disputes between Blacks and Whites I analyze strategies to address racism in the 2010’s. A study of Black women’s hairstyles identified explicit modes of claiming race and questions if there has been a change of paradigms. Subsequent research in schools about the proper aesthetic reveals miscegenational ideals. Slips in the meanings of stereotypes display aesthetics in its performative dimensions, triggered either to exercise or confront racism. The examination of hairstyles reveals constant tension between change and permanence and a non-harmonious conviviality between racial concepts in Brazil.

RESUMO Este artigo tem como objetivo apontar na biografia de Eufrásia Teixeira Leite sua condição de mulher celibatária, e o estigma que esse estado representava no contexto do século XIX. Busca interpretar o papel da moda no processo de autonomização vivenciado por Eufrásia. Sua história perpassa questões sobre individualidade e coletividade, independência financeira e amor romântico, conformidade e insubmissão. A investigação baseia-se na interpretação de dois de seus retratos e na análise de sua coleção de trajes pertencentes ao Museu Casa da Hera para demonstrar que Eufrásia utilizou a moda como instrumento de distinção, não obstante a sua situação de mulher celibatária.

ABSTRACT This article aims to point out in the biography of Eufrásia Teixeira Leite her condition as a celibate woman, and the stigma that this state represented in the context of the 19th century. It seeks to interpret the role of fashion in the process of empowerment experienced by Eufrásia. Her story permeates questions about individuality and collectivity, financial independence and romantic love, conformity and insubmission. The investigation is based on the interpretation of two of her portraits and on the analysis of her collection of costumes belonging to the Casa da Hera Museum, to demonstrate that Eufrásia used fashion as an instrument of distinction, despite her situation as a celibate woman.

RESUMO A igreja Matriz de Santo Antônio, localizada no distrito de Glaura, em Ouro Preto, foi reconstruída por volta de 1750 em substituição à antiga capela, erguida na década de 1720, que se encontrava em ruína. A história desse templo abrange notas importantes e necessárias para a compreensão do processo de produção da arte e da arquitetura setecentista em Minas Gerais. Este artigo objetiva relacionar informações sobre a história da referida igreja, obtidas a partir do exame de documentação primária, temática escassamente investigada na atualidade.

ABSTRACT The Mother Church of Santo Antônio, in the district of Glaura, in Ouro Preto, was rebuilt around 1750, to replace the old chapel built in the 1720s, which was in ruins. The history of this temple includes important information, helping to understand details about the production process of the 18th-century art and architecture in Minas Gerais. This article aims to relate information about the history of the church, obtained from the review of documentation because it is a subject that has not been thoroughly investigated.

RESUMO Este artigo investiga a biografia política de João Guimarães Rosa (1908-1967) a partir da hipótese de Willi Bolle (2004) de que o escritor seria “politicamente reacionário”. Analisamos entrevistas, material de arquivo, cartas e jornais para demonstrar as relações da família Guimarães e do autor com partidos, personalidades políticas e seu apoio ao golpe de 1964. Nossa conclusão é de que a visão de mundo do escritor aproxima-se do conservadorismo político.

ABSTRACT This article investigates the political biography of João Guimarães Rosa (1908-1967) based on Willi Bolle's (2004) hypothesis that the writer was “politically reactionary”. We analyzed interviews, archival material, letters and newspapers to establish Guimarães’ and his family’s links to political parties, personalities and his support for the 1964 coup. Our conclusion is that the writer's viewpoint is close to conservatism political position.

RESUMO Regional como opção, regional como prisão: trajetórias artísticas no modernismo pernambucano (2022), de Eduardo Dimitrov, se debruça sobre trajetórias de artistas pernambucanos, entre as décadas de 1920 e 1970, para compreender, a partir de uma série de eventos, agentes e instituições, a constituição de uma “régua” regionalista que passou a constituir parâmetro para a legitimação de artistas e obras. A resenha se detém sobre como artistas e outros agentes elaboraram estratégias para lidar com essas convenções, destacando a reverberação dessa problemática na produção contemporânea.

ABSTRACT Regional como opção, regional como prisão: trajetórias artísticas no modernismo pernambucano (2022) by Eduardo Dimitrov, focuses on the artists from Pernambuco trajectories, between the 1920s and 1970s, to understand, considering events, agents and institutions, the constitution of a regionalist “ruler” that became a legitimation parameter for artists and its works. The review dwells on how artists and other agents developed strategies to deal with these conventions, highlighting how this problem reverberates in contemporary production.

RESUMO O artigo apresenta a edição conservadora e um breve estudo filológico de uma carta inédita de Diogo da Sylveyra Vellozo dirigida ao governador da capitania de Pernambuco, Henrique Luiz Pereyra Freyre, datada de 14 de outubro de 1738, proveniente do Recife. A carta oferece pistas sobre a dinâmica de transportes na capitania e, principalmente, sobre o uso que se fazia dos diferentes tipos de madeira em exploração na região. Pertencente à Coleção Alberto Lamego, salvaguardada pelo Arquivo do IEB, a missiva foi selecionada como objeto de estudo por José Heleno Barbosa, um aluno dedicado a quem prestamos uma homenagem póstuma com este texto.

ABSTRACT The article presents a conservative edition and a brief philological study of an unpublished letter by Diogo da Sylveyra Vellozo addressed to the governor of the captaincy of Pernambuco, Henrique Luiz Pereyra Freyre, dated October 14th, 1738, from Recife. The letter provides clues about the transport dynamics in the captaincy and, mainly, about the use of different types of wood being exploited in the region. Belonging to the Alberto Lamego Collection, safeguarded by the IEB Archive, the letter was selected as a study object by José Heleno Barbosa, a dedicated student to whom we pay posthumous tribute in this text.

RESUMO Os diários de naturalistas em expedições no Brasil, no século XIX, formam um arcabouço para a pesquisa bibliográfica sobre diversas expedições realizadas por várias porções do país. Este estudo buscou, através da leitura dos relatos de viagem, conhecer as paisagens do interior do Brasil no século XIX, além do cotidiano das populações. Os resultados foram agrupados em categorias e indicam semelhanças nas experiências de campo, assim como no captar das diferentes paisagens naturais e antrópicas.

ABSTRACT The diaries of naturalists in expeditions in Brazil, in the nineteenth century, form a framework for bibliographic research on various expeditions carried out in various parts of the country. This study sought, through the reading of travel reports, to get to know the landscapes of Brazil´s countryside in the 19th century, as well as the daily life of the populations. The results were grouped into categories and indicate similarities in the field experiences, as well as in the capturing of different natural and anthropic landscape.
