Abstract. Latin American indigenous migration is a multiethnic phenomenon, older than mestizo migration and with a transnational character due to ancient and vital community ties. Throughout the twentieth century indigenous migration in Latin America reconfigured the ethnic geography traced by modern states, not only within countries but also beyond the geopolitical lines that divide Latin America in the South from the U.S., Canada and the European continent in the North. This paper outlines a complex field of reflection about the different paths of indigenous migration flows in contemporary Latin America. Indigenous migration has had an impact on the redefinition of ethnic identities and in the new forms of resistance of indigenous peoples in the international economy, as well as in the reconstruction of indigenous consciousness in the ethnic configurations of more than one nation-state. Abstract This article proposes to contribute to the dialog on intra-regional migrations in Africa, with emphasis on immigration to Angola. Aiming to understand the processes of social, cultural and linguistic insertion in Angola, from the aspects that present themselves as obstacles and the transforming factors, with the support of the communicative methodology, ten communicative reports were carried out with immigrants and returnees from the Democratic Republic of Congo, Guinea-Conakry and Sao Tome and Principe. As a result, the war and armed conflicts in Angola and the Democratic Republic of Congo stand out as obstacles and reasons for emigration. Resumo O presente artigo propõe contribuir para o diálogo sobre as migrações intra-regionais em África, com ênfase na imigração em Angola. Objetivando compreender os processos de inserção social, cultural e linguística nesse país, a partir dos aspectos que se apresentam como obstáculo e os fatores transformadores, com o aporte da metodologia comunicativa, foram realizados dez relatos comunicativos com imigrantes e regressados provenientes da República Democrática do Congo, Guiné-Conacri e São Tomé e Príncipe. Abstract This study focuses on the experience of international students from Portuguese-speaking African countries in Higher Education in Portugal, specifically Guineans. It aimed to identify and understand the barriers experienced by these students in their academic trajectory, as well as to present recommendations for improving both social integration and academic success. In this perspective, eleven Guinean students that attend a Portuguese university were interviewed. The results show that students are faced with several barriers that affect not only their adaptation and social integration, but also their learning and, above all, their success. These include the delay in obtaining the visa, poor proficiency in Portuguese language, difficulty in finding accommodation and socio-cultural issues. There are also financial difficulties, in adapting to the new academic environment and learning difficulties. Finally, a set of recommendations is presented which aim to significantly improve the integration and success of this student group in Portugal. Resumo O presente estudo centra-se na experiência dos estudantes internacionais provenientes dos Países Africanos de Língua Oficial Portuguesa no Ensino Superior em Portugal, concretamente nos guineenses. Pretendeu-se identificar e compreender as barreiras experienciadas na sua trajetória universitária, bem como apresentar recomendações para a melhoria quer da integração social, quer do sucesso académico. Nesta lógica, foram entrevistados onze indivíduos que frequentavam uma universidade portuguesa. Os resultados mostram que os estudantes são confrontados, desde logo, com diversas barreiras que condicionam não só a adaptação e integração social, como a aprendizagem e sobretudo o sucesso. Destacam-se, assim, a morosidade da obtenção dos vistos de estudo, a fraca proficiência na língua portuguesa, a escassez de alojamento e as questões socioculturais. Abstract This article presents an investigation into the challenges faced by Brazilian students in Portugal during the COVID-19 pandemic. Using online survey data and interviews, the study highlights the significant impact of the pandemic on these students' mobility, financial stability, and mental health. Despite the challenges they faced and the uncertainties about their career prospects, Brazilian students demonstrated resilience and adaptability. The support they had from their contact networks and their temporal expectations played a relevant role in their agency. Resumo Este artigo apresenta uma investigação sobre os desafios enfrentados pelos estudantes brasileiros no ensino superior em Portugal durante a pandemia de Covid-19. Utilizando questionários e entrevistas online, o estudo destaca o impacto significativo da pandemia na mobilidade, estabilidade financeira e saúde mental desses estudantes. Apesar dos desafios que enfrentaram e incertezas sobre suas perspectivas de carreira, os estudantes brasileiros demonstraram resiliência e adaptabilidade. Abstract Based on research focused on migratory mobilities in the American continent, the text seeks to explore and reflect on epistemologies and research methodologies that are interested in affective bonds - forms of care and friendship - generated in situations and contexts of migration in which children and adolescents are currently enrolled, among them, school contexts with the presence of migrant diversity. Abstract Intercultural competence enables people to be able to handle situations in which they face states in which contradictions and differences exist. In the context of unaccompanied migrant minors (UAMM) under the care of the Administration in Spain, a descriptive correlational study was carried out between 2011 and 2022. The aim was to check whether the level of intercultural competencies of people working with UACM improves over the years, stays the same or decreases. For this purpose, data obtained in 2011 (n=334) and 2022 (n=208) were compared, in order to find out if there was a change between the established years. The sample consisted of social work professionals working in child protection centres in different parts of Spain. The results showed that the level of intercultural competencies had decreased in relation to the results obtained in 2011. Resumen La competencia intercultural permite que las personas sean capaces de manejar situaciones en las que se afronten estados en los que existan contradicciones y diferencias. En el contexto de menores migrantes no acompañados (MMNA) tutelados por la Administración en España, se llevó a cabo entre los años 2011 y 2022 un estudio longitudinal de tipo cuantitativo basado en el método descriptivo correlacional. El objetivo fue comprobar si el nivel de competencias interculturales de las personas que trabajan con MMNA mejora con el paso de los años, se mantiene igual o disminuye. Abstract The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the socioeconomic conditions of the immigrant population, and of the three more important groups -Venezuelans, Peruvians and Haitians-, is analyzed and compared with the Chilean population. For this purpose, a descriptive statistical analysis and an inference analysis are carried out using microdata on income and poverty from the 2015, 2017, 2020 and 2022 CASEN survey. The main results show that the Chilean and migrant population were unequally affected, from a socioeconomic point of view, by the pandemic. Resumen Se analiza la evolución de las condiciones socioeconómicas del conjunto de la población inmigrante y de tres colectivos con mayor representación -venezolanos, peruanos y haitianos- en comparación con la población chilena, en cuanto a ingresos económicos y situación de pobreza entre los años 2015 y 2022 a fin de observar el impacto de la pandemia COVID-19 en cada grupo. Abstract South American immigrants in Chile constantly suffer workplace discrimination, which is usually related to different variables that are inherent to their immigration process. The objective of this article was to evaluate perceived workplace discrimination by South American immigrants in Chile. A cross-sectional design with a descriptive scope was used, where the final sample was made up of 612 South American immigrants of legal age who have been living in the country for more than a year. The results indicate that immigrants who perceive more discrimination in the workplace are those who mainly interact with foreigners from a third nationality. Resumo Os imigrantes sul-americanos no Chile sofrem constantemente discriminação no local de trabalho, que geralmente está relacionada a diferentes variáveis inerentes ao seu processo de imigração. O objetivo deste artigo foi avaliar a discriminação percebida no local de trabalho por imigrantes sul-americanos no Chile. Utilizamos um desenho transversal com escopo descritivo, em que a amostra final foi composta por 612 imigrantes sul-americanos maiores de idade que residiam no país há mais de um ano. Abstract The integration of emigrants into the labor market has effects on the person's migration trajectory and their interaction with the host society. It is often overcome by difficulties in adjusting human capital and professional skills to the needs of the labor market. Qualified migration illustrates with acuity the heterogeneity of these processes. The employability of qualified emigration is not uniform. Some emigrants, despite having a higher level of qualification, may find themselves working in unskilled professions - a situation of over-qualification. Based on two studies on Portuguese emigration, over-qualification rates were found in the order of 18.1% and 16.9%. Negative consequences of this over-qualification were identified: dissatisfaction with work and low wages. Resumo A integração de emigrantes no mercado de trabalho tem efeitos na trajetória migratória da própria pessoa e na sua interação com a sociedade de acolhimento. É frequentemente trespassada por dificuldades de ajustamento do capital humano e das competências profissionais às necessidades do mercado de trabalho. A migração qualificada ilustra com particular acuidade a heterogeneidade destes processos. Com efeito, a empregabilidade da emigração qualificada não é uniforme. Alguns/mas emigrantes, embora com uma qualificação de nível superior, podem encontrar-se a desempenhar profissões não qualificadas - situação de sobre-qualificação. Abstract Migrants cross not only international borders between states. In the cities where they remain they also face various types of “other” borders, both material and symbolic, that affect their experiences. The border configuration, linked to the presence of recent migrants -more specifically displaced people seeking refuge-, is investigated in a public space, the Giordano Bruno Park in Mexico City central area (Colonia Juárez), from a perspective that prioritizes qualitative techniques. Partimos de los resultados de un estudio previo desarrollado en Argentina enmarcado teóricamente en el análisis de discurso franco-brasileño. De ese modo, buscamos deslindar y ampliar los alcances de los conceptos de lengua-lugar y lengua-hogar, cuyo foco está en reponer la dimensión subjetiva en el nombramiento de las lenguas que acompañan el sujeto en su movimiento.
