ABSTRACT: This research evaluated the agronomic performance through mixed models, and determined the genetic divergence between black oat genotypes. The experiment was carried out at Federal University of Santa Maria, Frederico Westphalen/RS. Fourteen black oat genotypes were evaluated, being 11 lines developed by Breeding Program of University, and three commercial cultivars (IAPAR 61, UPFA 21 - Moreninha and, IPR Cabocla). We evaluated quantitative traits associated to plant height, cycle, dry mass yield and seeds yield; and 19 qualitative traits, being these morphological descriptors. The results showed that lines UFSMFW 2-05 and UFSMFW 2-07 stand out with characteristics such as early cycle, higher dry mass and grain yield. Divergence analysis revealed the formation of three distinct groups, indicating the presence of variability. These results suggested the potential for the development of new cultivars of black oat, presenting early cycle and good grain yield.

RESUMO: O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o desempenho agronômico por meio de modelos mistos e determinar a divergência genética entre genótipos de aveia preta. O experimento foi conduzido na Universidade Federal de Santa Maria, campus de Frederico Westphalen/RS. Catorze genótipos de aveia preta foram avaliados, sendo 11 linhagens desenvolvidas pelo Programa de Melhoramento da Universidade e três cultivares comercias (IAPAR 61, UPFA 21 - Moreninha e IPR Cabocla). Foram avaliadas características agronômicas quantitativas relacionadas ao porte, ciclo e produtividade de massa seca e de sementes; e 19 características qualitativas, sendo estes descritores morfológicos. Os resultados mostraram que as linhagens UFSMFW 2-05 e UFSMFW 2-07 se destacam com características como ciclo precoce, elevada produtividade de massa seca e de sementes. A análise de divergência revelou a formação de três grupos distintos, indicando presença de variabilidade. Os resultados demonstram o potencial de desenvolvimento de novas cultivares de aveia preta, apresentando precocidade e boa produtividade de sementes.

Abstract Background Cardiovascular complications of COVID-19 are important aspects of the disease’s pathogenesis and prognosis. Evidence on the prognostic role of troponin and myocardial injury in Latin American hospitalized COVID-19 patients is still scarce. Objectives To evaluate myocardial injury as independent predictor of in-hospital mortality and invasive mechanical ventilation support in hospitalized patients, from the Brazilian COVID-19 Registry. Methods This cohort study is a substudy of the Brazilian COVID-19 Registry, conducted in 31 Brazilian hospitals of 17 cities, March-September 2020. Primary outcomes included in-hospital mortality and invasive mechanical ventilation support. Models for the primary outcomes were estimated by Poisson regression with robust variance, with statistical significance of p<0.05. Results Of 2,925 patients (median age of 60 years [48-71], 57.1% men), 27.3% presented myocardial injury. The proportion of patients with comorbidities was higher among patients with cardiac injury (median 2 [1-2] vs. 1 [0-2]). Patients with myocardial injury had higher median levels of brain natriuretic peptide, lactate dehydrogenase, creatine phosphokinase, N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide, and C-reactive protein than patients without myocardial injury. As independent predictors, C-reactive protein and platelet counts were related to the risk of death, and neutrophils and platelet counts were related to the risk of invasive mechanical ventilation support. Patients with high troponin levels presented a higher risk of death (RR 2.03, 95% CI 1.60-2.58) and invasive mechanical ventilation support (RR 1.87, 95% CI 1.57-2.23), when compared to those with normal troponin levels. Conclusion Cardiac injury was an independent predictor of in-hospital mortality and the need for invasive mechanical ventilation support in hospitalized COVID-19 patients.

Resumo Fundamento As complicações cardiovasculares da COVID-19 são aspectos importantes da patogênese e do prognóstico da doença. Evidências do papel prognóstico da troponina e da lesão miocárdica em pacientes hospitalizados com COVID-19 na América Latina são ainda escassos. Objetivos Avaliar a lesão miocárdica como preditor independente de mortalidade hospitalar e suporte ventilatório mecânico em pacientes hospitalizados, do registro brasileiro de COVID-19. Métodos Este estudo coorte é um subestudo do registro brasileiro de COVID-19, conduzido em 31 hospitais brasileiros de 17 cidades, de março a setembro de 2020. Os desfechos primários incluíram mortalidade hospitalar e suporte ventilatório mecânico invasivo. Os modelos para os desfechos primários foram estimados por regressão de Poisson com variância robusta, com significância estatística de p<0,05. Resultados Dos 2925 pacientes [idade mediana de 60 anos (48-71), 57,1%], 27,3% apresentaram lesão miocárdica. A proporção de pacientes com comorbidades foi maior nos pacientes com lesão miocárdica [mediana 2 (1-2) vs. 1 (0-20)]. Os pacientes com lesão miocárdica apresentaram maiores valores medianos de peptídeo natriurético cerebral, lactato desidrogenase, creatina fosfoquinase, N-terminal do pró-peptídeo natriurético tipo B e proteína C reativa em comparação a pacientes sem lesão miocárdica. Como fatores independentes, proteína C reativa e contagem de plaquetas foram relacionados com o risco de morte, e neutrófilos e contagem de plaquetas foram relacionados ao risco de suporte ventilatório mecânico invasivo. Os pacientes com níveis elevados de troponina apresentaram um maior risco de morte (RR 2,03, IC95% 1,60-2,58) e suporte ventilatório mecânico (RR 1,87;IC95% 1,57-2,23), em comparação àqueles com níveis de troponina normais. Conclusão Lesão cardíaca foi um preditor independente de mortalidade hospitalar e necessidade de suporte ventilatório mecânico em pacientes hospitalizados com COVID-19.

Abstract Nucleotide excision repair pathway (NER) is an essential mechanism for single-strand breaks (SSB) repair while xeroderma pigmentosum family (XPA to XPG) is the most important system to NER. Myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) is a heterogeneous hematological cancer characterized by cytopenias and risk of acute myeloid leukemia (AML) transformation. MDS pathogenesis has been associated with problems of DNA repair system. This report aimed to evaluate NER polymorphisms (XPA rs1800975, XPC rs2228000, XPD rs1799793 and XPF rs1800067) in 269 MDS patients of different populations in Latin America (173 Brazilian and 96 Argentinean). Genotypes were identified in DNA samples by RT-qPCR using TaqMan SNP Genotyping Assay. Regarding rs1799793 polymorphism of XPD for Brazilian population, the heterozygous genotype AG presented a high odds ratio (OR) to have a normal karyotype (p= 0.012, OR=3.000) and the mutant homozygous genotype AA was associated to a high OR of AML transformation (p= 0.034, OR=7.4). In Argentine population, the homozygous mutant AA genotype of rs1800975 polymorphism of XPA was associated with an increased odd to have hemoglobin levels below 8g/dL (p= 0.013, OR=10.000) while for the rs1799793 polymorphism of XPD, the heterozygous AG genotype decreased OR to be classified as good (p< 0.001, OR=9.05 × 10−10), and intermediate (p< 0.001, OR=3.08 × 10−10), according to Revised-International Prognostic Scoring System. Regarding the rs1800067 polymorphisms of XPF, the homozygous mutant AA genotype showed a decreased OR to be classified as good (p< 0.001, OR=4.03 × 10−13) and intermediate (p< 0.001, OR=2.54 × 10−13). Our report reinforces the heterogeneity of MDS and demonstrates the importance of ethnic differences and regional influences in pathogenesis and prognosis of MDS.

Abstract The objective of this work was to select black oat genotypes using the MGIDI for simultaneous selection, comparing it with the Smith-Hazel index. The experiment was carried out in Frederico Westphalen/RS and Pato Branco/PR, in a randomized block design, with three replications, with 9 genotypes tested. Days from emergence to flowering and maturation; cutting and plant height; number of tillers; panicle length; tiller, plant, panicle, panicle seed mass, green and dry; and seed yield were obtained. MGIDI selected the genotypes UFSMFW 2-01 and UFSMFW 2-04 for Frederico Westphalen and UFSMFW 2-07 and UFSMFW 2-04 for Pato Branco, which varied compared to the Smith-Hazel index in both environments. MGIDI was efficient in selecting the best black oat genotypes, showing desirable selection gains for most traits.

ABSTRACT In this study, the aim of this study was to identify the source of resistance using KASP markers developed for Rpp1 – Rpp5 and screening for resistance in field trials in F2 populations. Ten F2 soybean (Glycine max (L.) Merrill) populations derived from crosses between rust-susceptible (55I57RSF IPRO, 63I64RSF IPRO) and rust-resistant sources (PI 200492, PI 594538A, PI 587880A, PI 594723, PI 230970, PI 506764, PI 459025A and PI 200487) were evaluated. All F2 plants were individually evaluated in field conditions for ASR phenotypic reactions and classified according to sporulation level. KASP markers were developed according to assays associated with Rpp genes available at SoyBase. Based on a slight difference in map position and different phenotypic disease reactions of PI 200492, we suggest that PI 594723 carries a resistance gene Rpp1-b. The Rpp1-b gene from PI 594723 was mapped on Chr 18 in a 12.4 cM region. The PIs carrying Rpp1-b (PI 594723, PI 587880A, and 594538A) showed strong resistance to ASR compared to the lines carrying Rpp1 (PI 200492). A total of 26 KASP markers were significantly associated (P < 0.01) with ASR resistance. Among those, M1, M5, and M6 (Rpp1), M13 and M14 (Rpp2), M16, M17 and M20 (Rpp3), M25 and M26 (Rpp4), and M27 and M28 (Rpp5) have the potential to be used in marker-assisted selection strategies.

ABSTRACT The agronomic traits have complex quantitative inheritance, wheat breeding has a highly cost and time expending to achieve advanced lines, and new cultivars. The objective of this work was to estimate the phenotypic (rp), genotypic (rg) and environmental (re) correlation coefficients and the genetic parameters, as well as to estimate the selection gains between agronomic traits in wheat using multivariate analysis. F6 generation was carried out in a randomized block experimental design, with fifteen wheat genotypes arranged in three replications. The traits measured were days of emergence to flowering, plant height, number of tillers, spike length, number of spikelets, kernel weight and thousand kernel weight. Correlation coefficients, variance components, genetic parameters, selection gain, Euclidiana’s distance, relative contribution of traits and canonical variables were estimated. Selection based on number of tillers, kernel weight and thousand kernel weight may result in expressive selection gains. The number of fertile tillers per plant showed a significant and positive intermediate association with kernel weight and positive correlation with number of spikelets. The cycle showed greater contribution to the genetic divergence among genotypes studied. Distinct groups highlighted the genetic variability among genotypes.

ABSTRACT Seed quality plays an important role in the production of soybean. The objective of this study was to quantify the effects of producing region on seed chemical composition (oil, protein, and fatty acid content) and physiological quality of soybean. Twenty-eight soybean cultivars were evaluated in 2017/18 and 2018/19 crop seasons, and field trials were performed in different environments classified as high (846–963 m above sea level [asl]) or low altitude (336–480 m asl). The evaluated traits were percentage germination, accelerated aging, germination test, emergence speed index, and seed chemical composition (oil and protein contents, fatty acid profile). A significant effect of cultivar × environment interactions on all evaluated traits was observed. High-altitude environments produce soybeans with a greater protein content, and low altitudes yielded seeds with elevated oil content. Higher protein-content seeds have greater physiological potential, and seeds with higher oil content are negatively associated with physiological potential. High-altitude environments maximized the physiological quality of seeds. Linking genetics to target populations of environments ensures seed quality and benefits the entire soybean production chain.

Resumo O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o potencial de rendimento de grãos de cultivares de soja (Glycine max) modernas submetidas a níveis alto e baixo de manejo de insumos, em diferentes datas de semeadura, na região Sudoeste do Paraná, Brasil. O experimento foi realizado nas safras de 2017/2018 e 2018/2019, no município de Itapejara D’Oeste. Cinco cultivares de soja (BMX Zeus IPRO, BMX Ativa RR, BMX Lança IPRO, NS 5445 IPRO e NA 5909 RG) foram avaliadas em quatro ambientes formados pela combinação de nível de manejo de insumos (alto e baixo) e datas de semeadura (primeira e segunda). O delineamento experimental foi de blocos ao acaso, com três repetições. As características avaliadas foram: potencial de rendimento de grãos (kg ha-1), no estádio fenológico R5; e rendimento de grãos (kg ha-1) e seus componentes, no estádio R8. A cultivar, a época de semeadura e o manejo dos insumos são determinantes para a maximização do potencial produtivo dos grãos. Na primeira data de semeadura, em outubro, a cultivar BMX Zeus IPRO apresenta melhor resposta ao manejo de alto nível, com maior potencial produtivo no estádio R5 (19.682 kg ha-1) e maior produtividade de grãos (8.248 kg ha-1), enquanto NA 5909 RG apresenta os melhores resultados com baixo manejo de insumos.

Abstract The objective of this work was to evaluate the grain yield potential of modern soybean (Glycine max) cultivars subjected to high- and low-input management levels on different sowing dates, in the southwestern region of the state of Paraná, Brazil. The experiment was carried out in the 2017/2018 and 2018/2019 crop seasons in the municipality of Itapejara D’Oeste. Five soybean cultivars (BMX Zeus IPRO, BMX Ativa RR, BMX Lança IPRO, NS 5445 IPRO, and NA 5909 RG) were evaluated in four environments formed by the combination of input management levels (high and low) and sowing dates (first and second). The experimental design was a randomized complete block with three replicates. The evaluated traits were: grain yield potential (kg ha-1), in the R5 phenological stage; and grain yield (kg ha-1) and its components, in the R8 stage. Cultivar, sowing date, and input management are determinant for maximizing grain yield potential. In the first sowing date, in October, the BMX Zeus IPRO cultivar shows a better response to the high level management, with a higher yield potential in the R5 stage (19,682 kg ha-1) and a higher grain yield (8,248 kg ha-1), whereas NA 5909 RG shows the best results with the low input management.

When used in rotation systems, the early cycle has the immediate advantage of allowing anticipated sowing of subsequent crop. Resumo Objetivo Rever a evidência sobre a necessidade de suplementação universal de ferro na gravidez para prevenção de anemia materna. Métodos Pesquisa bibliográfica de ensaios clínicos aleatorizados e controlados, metanálises, revisões sistemáticas e normas de orientação clínica, publicados entre agosto de 2009 e agosto de 2019, utilizando os termos MeSH: iron, terapêuticas use; pregnancy; anemia, preventivos and control. Resultados Incluímos seis normas de orientação clínica, três metanálises e um ensaio clínico randomizado e controlado. Discussão A maioria dos artigos aponta para a melhoria dos parâmetros hematológicos e redução do risco de anemia materna por meio da suplementação com ferro. Conclusões A suplementação universal com ferro na gravidez é controversa, pelo que atribuímos uma força de recomendação SORT C.

Abstract Objective To review the evidence about universal iron supplementation in pregnancy to prevent maternal anemia. Methods Bibliographic research of randomized and controlled clinical trials, meta-analyses, systematic reviews, and clinical guidelines, published between August 2009 and August 2019, using the MeSH terms: iron; therapeutic use; pregnancy; anemia, prevention and control. Results We included six clinical guidelines, three meta-analyses and one randomized controlled clinical trial. Discussion Most articles point to the improvement of hematological parameters and reduction of maternal anemia risk, with supplementary iron. However, they do not correlate this improvement in pregnant women without previous anemia with the eventual improvement of clinical parameters. Conclusion Universal iron supplementation in pregnancy is controversial, so we attribute a SORT C recommendation strength.

Resumo Objetivou-se avaliar a ingestão de fibra alimentar e fatores associados em adolescentes; identificar as fontes alimentares do nutriente; e verificar a relação de indicadores de práticas alimentares (energia/macro/micronutrientes) com o consumo de fibras. Trata-se de estudo transversal de base populacional com dados de Recordatório de 24 Horas. Utilizou-se a classificação NOVA e foi avaliada a contribuição dos alimentos para o teor de fibras da dieta. Valores de referência da Organização Mundial da Saúde (≥12,5 g) e do Institute of Medicine (14 g) por 1.000 kcal foram usados para avaliar o consumo. A ingestão média foi de 6,4 g de fibra alimentar/1.000 kcal/dia, 1,5 g de solúvel e 4,9 g de insolúvel, para os 891 adolescentes. O consumo de fibras foi baixo, principalmente entre os que ingeriam menos frutas, hortaliças, feijão, mais refrigerante, embutidos, e nos que não consumiam o café da manhã diariamente. Os alimentos in natura forneceram 68,0%, 53,7% e 72,1% da fibra total, solúvel e insolúvel, e os ultraprocessados 24,8%, 37,9% e 21,0%, respectivamente. O consumo de fibras foi inversamente associado ao teor de energia, gordura, açúcar livre e proteína animal da dieta. A ingestão insuficiente de fibras sinaliza a necessidade de promover a alimentação saudável e adequada em nível individual e familiar.

Abstract The aims of the present study were to evaluate dietary fiber intake and associated factors in adolescents, identify food sources of the nutrient, and determine associations between indicators of dietary patterns (energy/macronutrients/micronutrients) and dietary fiber intake. A population-based cross-sectional study was conducted involving 24-hour recall data. The NOVA classification was used to determine the contribution of foods to dietary fiber intake. Reference values from the World Health Organization (≥12.5 g) and the US Institute of Medicine (14 g) per 1,000 kcal were used to assess intake. The mean intake of dietary fiber/1,000 kcal/day was 6.4 g (1.5 g of soluble fiber and 4.9 g of insoluble fiber) among the 891 adolescents. Fiber intake was low, especially among those who ate fruits, vegetables, and beans less, those who consumed soft drinks and processed meats more, and those who did not eat breakfast every day. Unprocessed/minimally processed foods provided 68.8%, 53.7%, and 72.1% of total, soluble, and insoluble fiber, respectively, whereas ultra-processed products provided 24.8%, 37.9%, and 21.0% respectively. Fiber intake was inversely associated with energy intake, fat, free sugar, and animal protein in the diet. The insufficient fiber intake underscores the need for actions that promote healthy nutrition on the individual and family levels.

ABSTRACT The objective of this work was to assess the breeding influences in different agronomic and physiological traits in Brazilian soybean cultivars, released between 1965 and 2011, to identify traits associated with modern cultivars. A total of 29 cultivars were evaluated in two locations in the 2016/17 crop season. Genotype selection based on agronomic and physiological traits was determined using GYT (Grain Yield*Trait) methodology, which uses the Superiority Index to rank genotypes by mean of all traits. Grain Yield is combined with other target traits and shows the strengths and weaknesses of each genotype. Soybean breeding improved desirable traits during the 46 years of evaluation. Superiority index can be a powerful tool for breeders to obtain high genetic gains in the future. The cultivars DMario 58i, TMG 7161RR and TMG 7262 RR stand out as the best cultivars but present different sets of desirable traits. The traits grain yield, harvest index, number of pods per plant, reproductive-vegetative ratio, photosynthetic rate and transpiration rate are core traits which can be evaluated in soybean breeding programs.

RESUMO Objetivo: Identificar, na literatura científica, elementos que viabilizam a técnica de debriefing videoassistida no processo de ensino e aprendizagem, na simulação em enfermagem. Métodos: Revisão integrativa da literatura, realizada de maio a julho de 2019. Selecionaram-se estudos primários, sem recorte temporal, em português, inglês ou espanhol, nas bases de dados PubMed®, Scopus®, CINAHL e LILACS, por meio do aplicativo Rayyan. Adotou-se a análise qualitativa. Resultados: Identificaram-se, inicialmente, 205 estudos, sendo seis deles selecionados e categorizados em: “Elementos que compõem a técnica de debriefing videoassistida”; “Benefícios da utilização da técnica de debriefing videoassistida” e “Desafios da utilização da técnica de debriefing videoassistida”. Conclusões: Os elementos que viabilizaram a técnica de debriefing videoassistida, no processo de ensino e aprendizagem em enfermagem, foram: conceito, objetivos, recursos materiais e procedimento. O principal benefício foi o reconhecimento imediato de comportamentos, e o desafio foi o risco de o vídeo tornar o debriefing cansativo e humilhante.

ABSTRACT Objective: To identify elements in scientific literature that make the video-assisted debriefing technique feasible in the teaching and learning process, in nursing simulation. Method: Integrative literature review, conducted from May to July of 2019. Primary studies, with no time frame, were selected in Portuguese, English or Spanish, in the PubMed®, Scopus®, CINAHL and LILACS databases, using the Rayyan application. Qualitative analysis was adopted. Results: 205 studies were initially identified, six of which were selected and categorized into: “Elements that make up the video-assisted debriefing technique”; "Benefits of using the video-assisted debriefing technique" and "Challenges of using the video-assisted debriefing technique". Conclusions: The elements that made the video-assisted debriefing technique feasible in the teaching and learning process in nursing were concept, objectives, material resources and procedure. The main benefit was the immediate recognition of behaviors, and the challenge was the risk that the video would make debriefing tiring and humiliating.

RESUMEN Objetivo: Identificar, en la literatura científica, los elementos que permiten la técnica de video debriefing asistida en el proceso de enseñanza y aprendizaje en la simulación de enfermería. Métodos: Revisión integral de la literatura, de mayo a julio de 2019. Estudios primarios, sin corte temporal, en portugués, inglés o español, en PubMed®, Scopus®, CINAHL y LILACS, con la solicitud de selección de Rayyan. El análisis cualitativo. Resultados: Se identificaron 205 estudios, seis de los cuales fueron categorizados como: "Elementos que componen la técnica de video debriefing asistida"; "Beneficios del uso de la técnica de video debriefing asistida" y "Retos de usar la técnica de video debriefing asistida". Conclusiones: Los elementos de la técnica de video debriefing asistida fueron: concepto, objetivos, recursos materiales y procedimiento. El benefício fue el reconocimiento inmediato de los comportamientos, y el desafío fue el riesgo de que el video genere informes agotadores y humillantes.
