Resumo Os ambientes de floresta aluvial são vulneráveis, representando um dos ecossistemas mais degradados globalmente. Este estudo investigou a dinâmica de uma Floresta Ombrófila Mista Aluvial urbana e a invasão de Ligustrum lucidum W.T.Aiton (Oleaceae) em Guarapuava-PR. Foram realizadas medições de diâmetro à altura do peito (DAP ≥ 5 cm) e altura de indivíduos arbóreos em 72 unidades de estudo de 100 m² cada, entre 2011 e 2022 e calculados os descritores fitossociológicos e Taxas de Crescimento Relativo e Mortalidade. A Análise de Variância comparou a abundância do invasor ao longo dos anos e a correlação de Pearson investigou sua relação com a riqueza de espécies nativas. Outras comparações usaram Modelos Lineares Generalizados, com correção de Bonferroni com 5% de significância. L. lucidum apresentou diâmetro médio semelhante à comunidade arbórea nativa, já, a sua altura média foi significativamente maior. Gymnanthes klotzschiana, Matayba elaeagnoides e L. lucidum apresentaram descritores fitossociológicos e valores de posição sociológica mais elevados. A taxa de crescimento de L. lucidum foi superior juntamente com Casearia decandra, e a exótica obteve baixa taxa de mortalidade em comparação com Zanthoxylum rhoifolium e Ocotea puberula. Apesar disso, não houve aumento significativo na abundância de L. lucidum e foi observada uma correlação negativa fraca entre a riqueza de espécies nativas e a abundância da invasora. O grau de invasão indicou um aumento de 5% na população exótica durante o período estudado. Abstract Alluvial forest environments are vulnerable, representing one of the most degraded ecosystems globally. This study evaluated the dynamics of an urban Alluvial Mixed Ombrophilous Forest and the invasion of Ligustrum lucidum W.T.Aiton (Oleaceae) in Guarapuava-PR, Brazil. Diameter at Breast Height (DBH ≥ 5 cm) and height measurements of tree individuals were carried out in 72 study plots of 100 m² each, between 2011 and 2022, and phytosociological descriptors and Relative Growth Rates and Mortality Rates were calculated. Analysis of Variance compared the abundance of the invader over the years, and Pearson correlation investigated its relationship with native species’ richness. Other comparisons used Generalized Linear Models, with Bonferroni correction at 5% significance level. L. lucidum showed similar mean diameter to the native tree community, but its mean height was significantly higher. Gymnanthes klotzschiana, Matayba elaeagnoides, and L. lucidum had higher phytosociological descriptors and sociological position values. The growth rate of L. lucidum was higher along with Casearia decandra, and the alien species had a low mortality rate compared to Zanthoxylum rhoifolium and Ocotea puberula. However, there was no significant increase in the abundance of L. lucidum, although a weak negative correlation between native species richness and invader abundance was observed. The invasion degree indicated a 5% increase in the alien population during the study period. ABSTRACT Background: Curitiba prismatica (D.Legrand) Salywon & Landrum belongs to the Myrtaceae family and it is popularly known as murta. Endemic to the Mixed Ombrophilous Forest of south Brazil, is predominant in Faxinal System, which is a traditional agricultural system in the State of Paraná. This species also has several uses and potentials, such as wood for fence posts and essential oils with pharmacological properties. For this reason, this study aimed to select molecular markers and assess whether the Faxinal System contributes to the maintenance of the genetic diversity of the species, helping in its management and conservation. As such, 120 adult reproductive individuals were sampled, 60 in two areas managed in the Faxinal System, and 60 in two conservation areas. Results: Initially, 30 ISSR markers were selected, but only eight showed considerable variability, resulting in 68 polymorphic loci. The results show that the average diversity within populations is 80.54%. The Shannon (I) and Nei’s (He) diversity indices were 0.53 and 0.36, respectively. According to Nei’s genetic identity, the populations form two groups. With the analysis of the genetic structure of the populations, which indicated the existence of two distinct genetic groups (K = 2). Conclusion: Thus, the populations in the Faxinal System had higher rates of genetic diversity, despite constant human activity within the system. Therefore, the Faxinal System contributes to the conservation of C. prismatica genetic diversity; however, considering the economic potential of the species and to minimize impacts on the existing fragments, there is a need to work with the local population to ensure sustainable forest management of the species.

ABSTRACT This study aim to evaluate the dynamics of the main tree species in a seasonal steppe savannah community, located in the Espinilho Park, Barra do Quaraí - RS, throughout a period of eight years (2001-2009). From information on the dynamics, it is possible to assess changes in vegetation structure, based on mortality, recruitment and growth rates of its individuals. Permanent sample plots of 1 ha (100 x 100 m), divided into sub-units of 100 m² (10 x 10 m) were established for data collection. All trees with diameter at breast height (DBH) ≥ 10 cm were measured. Throughout the study period, 178 individuals from eight different species were recorded. The species Aspidosperma quebracho-blanco, Vachellia caven, Prosopis nigra and Prosopis affinis represent 82.58% of all individuals, which 54.49% comprise Prosopis genus only. Individuals were distributed in eight diameter classes, although 91.57% of them were from the first three diameter classes. An annual recruitment rate of 1.61% and a 0.70% mortality rate were observed. The average increase in DBH between the years 2001 and 2009 was 0.053 cm/year. The studied area showed a change in the dynamics with an annual recruitment rate greater than the mortality, indicating that the community is still growing.

RESUMEN El presente estudio tiene como objetivo evaluar la dinámica de las principales especies arbóreas, en una comunidad de Estepa estacional de sabana, localizada en el Parque Estatal de Espinillo, Barra do Quaraí - Rio Grande do Sul, durante un periodo de ocho años (2001-2009). A partir de informaciones sobre la dinámica, es posible evaluar los cambios en la estructura de la vegetación, con base en las tasas de mortalidad, ingreso y crecimiento de sus individuos. Para el análisis de los datos fue instalada una unidad de muestreo permanente de 1 ha (100 x 100 m), subdividida en subunidades de 100 m² (10 x 10 m). Fueron medidos e identificados todos los árboles con un diámetro a la altura del pecho (DAP) ≥ 10 cm. Durante el período monitoreado fueron registrados 178 individuos pertenecientes a ocho especies diferentes. Las especies Aspidosperma quebracho-blanco, Vachellia caven, Prosopis nigra y Prosopis affinis representan el 82,58% del total de individuos, siendo 54,49% del género Prosopis. Los individuos fueron distribuidos en ocho clases diamétricas, estando un 91,57% dentro de las tres primeras clases de diámetro. Fue verificada una tasa anual de ingreso del 1,61% y de mortalidad del 0,70%. El incremento medio del DAP entre los años 2001 y 2009 fue de 0,053 cm/año. El área analizada presentó alteración en la dinámica, con un índice de ingreso anual mayor que el de mortalidad, demostrando que la vegetación se encuentra en proceso de crecimiento.

ABSTRACT The study aimed to determine the effects of inoculation of Trichoderma spp. on the development and extraction of nutrients from Eugenia pyriformis Cambess. (uvaieira) and Myrcianthes punges (O.Berg.) (guabiju) subjected to fertilization with rock phosphate. The treatments used at planting were: Control; Trichonat PM®; Trichoderma sp. FS1; Rock phosphate; Trichonat PM® + Rock phosphate; and Trichoderma sp. FS1 + Rock Phosphate. The following characteristics were evaluated at 540 days after planting: plant height, crown diameter, branch insertion points, biomass, and nutrient content. The uvaieiras inoculated with Trichonat PM® and Thrichoderma spp. showed higher vegetative growth and higher values of N, P, K, Ca, Mg and S, respectively. For guabijuzeiros, the treatment with Trichoderma spp. presented the highest insertion point of the branches without phosphorus fertilization However, the treatments did not affect nutrient extraction. Thus, Trichoderma spp. inoculants have the potential to promote vegetative growth and nutrient extraction in plants.

RESUMO Esta pesquisa objetivou avaliar a viabilidade técnica de utilização das madeiras de paricá (Schizolobium amazonicum Huber ex. Ducke) e embaúba (Cecropia palmata Willd) para produção de lâminas de madeira e de painéis compensados de uso externo, utilizando dois tipos de adesivos: fenol-formaldeído e taninoformaldeído, e diferentes composições de lâminas. As árvores de paricá e de embaúba foram coletadas em uma área de floresta plantada a partir do enriquecimento de clareira no município de Dom Eliseu, estado do Pará. A madeira de pinus foi utilizada como testemunha e foi doada por uma empresa situada no município de Irati, estado do Paraná. Os painéis foram produzidos com madeiras puras das três espécies, e duas combinações entre as espécies paricá e embaúba, utilizando uma gramatura de cola de 145 g/m² em linha simples. O rendimento em lâminas para o paricá foi de 80,03% e o da embaúba 46,37%; Os painéis produzidos com madeira de embaúba pura, ou em combinação com a madeira de paricá, e colados com fenol-formaldeído, apresentaram propriedades tecnológicas satisfatórias para uso exterior e foram as composições que apresentaram melhores propriedades. O melhor adesivo para os painéis foi o fenol formaldeído, pois o tanino-formaldeído não apresentou bom desempenho na gramatura utilizada neste estudo.

ABSTRACT This research objective was to evaluate the technical feasibility of using Schizolobium amazonicum Huber ex Ducke (Paricá) and Cecropia palmata Willd (Embaúba) timbers for the production of veneers and external plywood using two types of adhesives: phenol-formaldehyde and tannin-formaldehyde, and different veneer compositions. The trees were harvested in a planted forest area from gap enrichment in the municipality of Dom Eliseu, Pará state. The Pinus elliottii timber was used as the reference and was donated by a company located in the municipality of Irati, Paraná state. The panels were produced with pure timber of the three species, and two combinations between the paricá and embaúba species, using a resin weight of 145 g m 2 in single line. The veneers yield for the paricá was 80.03% and that of the embaúba 46.37%; The panels produced with pure embaúba timber, or in combination with paricá timber, and bonded with phenol-formaldehyde, presented satisfactory technological properties for external use and were the compositions that presented better properties. The best adhesive for the panels was phenol-formaldehyde, as the tannin-formaldehyde did not present good performance in the weight used in this study.

RESUMO Nesse estudo, foram determinadas as propriedades físicas e mecânicas da madeira de Eucalyptus benthamii, aos seis anos de idade, sob quatro espaçamentos de plantio (3 x 2, 3 x 3, 3 x 4, 4 x 4 m). Para determinação das propriedades físicas, foram amostrados discos em cinco posições no fuste (0,10 m, 1,30 m, 25%, 50% e 75% de altura total). Na avaliação das propriedades mecânicas, vigas de madeira das primeiras toras foram transformadas em corpos de prova para os ensaios mecânicos, realizados de acordo com as normatizações da COPANT. As propriedades mecânicas foram analisadas estatisticamente sob o efeito do espaçamento e para as propriedades físicas, também em relação à posição de amostragem. A densidade básica não foi influenciada pelo efeito do espaçamento, mas verificou-se seu decréscimo com o aumento da altura no fuste. Espaçamentos maiores afetaram negativamente a retração radial (RR), mas não a tangencial (RT). A RR e RT também foram afetadas pela posição de amostragem. A retração volumétrica e o coeficiente de anisotropia apresentaram valores decrescentes com o aumento da altura no fuste. O módulo de elasticidade (MOE) e de ruptura (MOR) em flexão estática, a resistência ao cisalhamento e o MOE em compressão não foram influenciados pelo espaçamento, enquanto a resistência à compressão paralela e a dureza no sentido axial e tangencial mostraram algum efeito, sem tendência clara. Concluiu-se que diferentes espaçamentos apresentaram pouca influência nas propriedades físicas e mecânicas do Eucalyptus benthamii.

ABSTRACT In this study, it was determined the physical and mechanical properties of Eucalyptus benthamii wood, at the age of six years, in four planting spacings (3x2, 3x3, 3x4, 4x4m). To the evaluation of physical properties, discs were sampled at five positions on the shaft of the tree (0,10 m, 1,30 m, 25%, 50 % and 75 % of total height). In the evaluation of mechanical properties, obtaining timber that were converted to manufacture samples used on the mechanical test, following norms of COPANT. The mechanical properties were analyzed statistically under the effect of spacing and to physical properties too regarding sampling position. The basic density was not influenced by the planting spacing, but was recorded decreasing variation in the values of this property with increasing sampling height. Latter spacings adversely affected the shrinkage in the radial direction (RR) but not the tangential (RT). The RR and RT were also affected by the sampling position. The volumetric shrinkage and the coefficient of anistropy showed a decreasing value with increasing height of the shaft. The modulus of elasticity (MOE) and rupture (MOR) in static bending, the shear strength and modulus of elasticity in compression were not values influenced by spacing, while the shear and compression stiffness in axial and tangential direction showed some effect of spacing, no clear trend in this variation. It was concluded that different spacings do not directly influence the physical and mechanical properties of Eucalytpus benthamii.

RESUMO A região do Parque Estadual do Espinilho, inserida nos domínios fitogeográficos da Savana Estépica Parque, ainda é pouco estudada, apesar de ser destaque na flora sulina. Características como denso estrato herbáceo e árvores isoladas configuram-na como propícia à pecuária. Objetivou-se analisar alterações florísticas e edáficas impostas pelo pastejo em duas áreas do Parque, a primeira sob pastejo e a segunda protegida por cinco anos. Foram avaliadas propriedades físicas do solo e biomassa aérea do estrato herbáceo, visando investigar relações com as principais espécies arbóreas regenerantes. Foi instalada uma unidade amostral de 2ha em ambas as áreas, compostas por 200 subunidades cada. O inventário do estrato regenerante, as coletas para análises de solo, biomassa aérea do estrato herbáceo e testes de resistência do solo à penetração foram realizados em 50 subunidades. Os resultados avaliados pelo teste t de Student demonstram que há variações entre florística e fatores ambientais aferidos entre as duas áreas. A abundância das espécies P. affinis e V. caven e as variáveis resistência do solo à penetração, densidade do solo, umidade gravimétrica e biomassa aérea do estrato herbáceo diferem significativamente. A análise exploratória de ordenação (PCoA) permite inferir que variáveis densidade do solo, resistência à penetração e abundância de espécies de V. caven apresentam maiores valores em área com pastejo, e umidade gravimétrica, biomassa aérea e abundância de P. affinis são maiores em área protegida, configurando significativas mudanças ao longo de apenas cinco anos de exclusão.

ABSTRACT Despite being prominent in flora, the region of the Parque Estadual do Espinilho located in the Pampas of southern Brazil, where dense herbaceous stratum and isolated trees make this region suitable for livestock farming, has received little attention. The objective of the study was to analyze floristic and edaphic changes imposed by livestock farming in two areas of the park, the first under livestock grazing and the second protected from grazing (livestock-excluded) for five years. We evaluated soil physical properties of and the herbaceous aboveground biomass in order to investigate relationships with key regenerating tree species. A sampling unit of 2ha was installed in both areas, each composed of 200 subunits. Inventory of regenerating trees and herbaceous aboveground biomass, soil sampling, and soil penetration resistance tests were done in 50 subunits. The results, which were evaluated by Student’s t-test, exhibited variations between the two areas in regards to floristic and environmental factors. The abundance of the P. affinis and V. caven species and the variables of soil penetration resistance, soil bulk density, gravimetric moisture and herbaceous aboveground biomass differ significantly between the two areas. Principal coordinates analysis (PCoA) allows to infer that variables such as soil bulk density, penetration resistance and the abundance of V. caven species exhibit higher values in the area under gazing, while gravimetric moisture, aboveground biomass and abundance of P. affinis are higher in the area under livestock-excluded, showing that significant changes occur over just five years of livestock-excluded from the area.

RESUMO Objetivou-se analisar a qualidade física em uma área de floresta em regeneração (FS) há 20 anos quando comparada à área que, neste período, permaneceu sendo manejada com sistema silvipastoril, com espécies arbóreas nativas em espaçamento aleatório (SSP). Foram realizadas coletas até 60 cm de profundidade para obtenção das curvas de retenção de água no solo, a densidade, a porosidade total, a macro e a microporosidade, a resistência mecânica à penetração (RMP) e sua respectiva umidade do solo, no momento da coleta. Houve similaridade entre os sistemas de manejo para as variáveis: densidade do solo, resistência mecânica à penetração e porosidade total. A microporosidade foi maior na FS em relação ao SSP, fazendo com que o sistema silvipastoril apresentasse menor capacidade de armazenamento de água. O isolamento do sistema silvipastoril no período de 20 anos apresentou capacidade de alterar o armazenamento de água no solo devido à modificação na porosidade, tornando-a similar à floresta natural.

ABSTRACT This study aimed to analyze the soil physical quality in a 20-year regenerating forest area (FS) in relation to an area under silvopastoral management during the same period with randomly spaced (SSP) native tree species. Samples were collected up to 60 cm deep to obtain soil water retention curves, density, total porosity, macroporosity, microporosity, mechanical penetration resistance (MPR) and the respective soil moisture at the time of collection. Soil density, mechanical resistance to penetration and total porosity were similar between the management systems. Microporosity was higher in FS than in SSP, leading to lower water storage capacity in the silvopastural system. The 20-year isolation of the silvopastoral system proved to be able to affect the soil water storage capacity due to changes in porosity, making its soils to reach similar values to natural forest.

RESUMO As mudanças na composição florística, na estrutura fitossociológica e os processos dinâmicos do crescimento: ingresso, mortalidade e incremento foram estudados no período de 2007 e 2009 em todos os indivíduos arbóreos com DAP ≥ 5 cm em um fragmento de Floresta Ombrófila Mista Montana em Boa Ventura do São Roque, no Paraná, Brasil. Os resultados apontaram a ocorrência de 2596 ind.ha-1, 25 famílias, 40 gêneros e 45 espécies, em 2007, ao ponto que, no levantamento realizado em 2009, computaram-se 2558 ind.ha-1, 27 famílias, 41 gêneros e 47 espécies, sendo Matayba elaeagnoides Radlk. a espécie mais importante nos dois levantamentos. A floresta apresentou mortalidade de 0,41% ao ano e ingresso de 1,75% ao ano de modo que a dinâmica se produz de forma gradativa, com um incremento médio anual de 0,328 cm.ano-1. Com base nos parâmetros avaliados, conclui-se que o fragmento se encontra em processo de regeneração.

ABSTRACT Changes in floristic composition, phytosociological structure and dynamic processes like ingrowth, mortality and diameter increment were studied between 2007 and 2009 in all trees with DBH ≥ 5 cm in a fragment of Montane Araucaria Forest in Boa Ventura do São Roque, Paraná, Brazil. The analyses showed the occurrence 2596 ind.ha-1, 25 families, 40 genera and 45 species, while in the survey conducted in 2009, 2558 indivuals.ha-1, 27 families, 41 genera and 47 species were registered, with Matayba elaeagnoides Radlk. being the most important species in both surveys. The forest fragment showed a mortality rate of 0.41% per year and recruitment of 1.75% per year. This indicates that the dynamics take place in a gradual manner, with a mean annual increment (MAI) of 0.328 cm.year-1. Based on the evaluated parameters, it follows that the fragment is in process of regeneration.

RESUMO: Técnicas de amostragem para quantificar a produção de frutos ainda são muito raras e geram uma lacuna no desenvolvimento das culturas. O presente estudo foi realizado em uma propriedade rural no município de Cachoeira do Sul - RS, com o objetivo de verificar a eficiência da amostragem aleatória de ramos (AAR) para estimar a produção de frutos de nogueira-pecã com três diferentes idades (5, 7 e 10 anos). Foram testadas duas técnicas de seleção: probabilidade proporcional ao diâmetro (PPD) e probabilidade uniforme (PU), aplicadas em nove árvores, sendo três de cada idade escolhidas através de sorteio. A AAR subestimou a produção de frutos nas idades avaliadas, sendo sua principal desvantagem o alto erro amostral (125,17% - PPD e 111,04% - PU). A PU foi considerada mais eficiente que a PPD nas árvores amostradas, mas com estimativas de produção e erros experimentais semelhantes. Conclui-se que a amostragem em ramos Foi imprecisa para o caso estudado, sendo necessária a realização de novos estudos para geração de estimativas com menor erro de amostragem.

ABSTRACT: Sampling techniques to quantify the production of fruits are still very scarce and create a gap in crop development research. This study was conducted in a rural property in the county of Cachoeira do Sul - RS to estimate the efficiency of randomized branch sampling (RBS) in quantifying the production of pecan fruit at three different ages (5,7 and 10 years). Two selection techniques were tested: the probability proportional to the diameter (PPD) and the uniform probability (UP) techniques, which were performed on nine trees, three from each age and randomly chosen. The RBS underestimated fruit production for all ages, and its main drawback was the high sampling error (125.17% - PPD and 111.04% - UP). The UP was regarded as more efficient than the PPD, though both techniques estimated similar production and similar experimental errors. In conclusion, we reported that branch sampling was inaccurate for this case study, requiring new studies to produce estimates with smaller sampling error.

RESUMO O objetivo do presente trabalho é apresentar uma visão geral sobre o estado da arte na obtenção de estimativas de biomassa e de carbono nas raízes de formações florestais. Inicialmente, realizou-se uma abordagem sobre a biomassa florestal, o ciclo do carbono na atmosfera e o papel das florestas nesse contexto. Sobre biomassa e carbono florestal, foram apresentadas definições, as metodologias citadas na literatura para a determinação e estimativa da biomassa florestal subterrânea, sendo realizado um apanhado geral dos métodos diretos e indiretos para sua quantificação. Na sequência, fez-se uma abordagem sobre as variáveis e os modelos utilizados nos ajustes de equações para estimativa de biomassa de raízes em formações florestais, como também foram relacionados alguns dos modelos mais utilizados e equações propostas na literatura.

ABSTRACT The aim of this paper is to present an overview of the state-of-the-art for obtaining estimates of biomass and carbon in the roots of forest formations. Initially, we conducted an approach on forest biomass, carbon cycle in the atmosphere, and the role of forests in this context. With respect to forest biomass and carbon, we presented the definitions and methodologies described in the literature to determine and estimate the underground forest biomass; we also presented an overview of the direct and indirect methods of quantification. After that, we conducted a discussion on the variables and models used in the adjustment of equations for the quantification of root biomass in forests, and also listed some of the most commonly used models and equations proposed in the literature.

RESUMO A dinâmica foi estudada em um remanescente de Floresta Ombrófila Mista, localizado na Floresta Nacional de Três Barras, município de Três Barras, estado de Santa Catarina, em um período de cinco anos (2004-2009). Em 2004 foram instaladas e medidas 26 parcelas permanentes de 1 ha cada, sendo que as mesmas foram subdivididas em unidade de 10 m x 50 m (500 m²). Todas as árvores com DAP > 10 cm foram numeradas e mensuradas para a análise do número de espécies, gêneros, famílias botânicas, o incremento periódico anual (DAP e área basal), o ingresso e a mortalidade. Em 2009, todas as parcelas foram remedidas para avaliar as mudanças entre os dois períodos, sendo os resultados apresentados para toda a floresta (26 ha) e para as 10 espécies mais importantes. Em 2004, a floresta apresentou 721 árvores/ha passando em 2009 para 709 árvores/ha, distribuídas nas duas ocasiões, em 72 espécies, 29 famílias e 53 gêneros. Houve incremento diamétrico anual (0,27 cm/ano) e da área basal (0,28 m²/ha/ano) para a floresta como um todo e entre as 10 espécies mais importantes, sendo Ilex theezans Mart. ex Reissek e Piptocarpha angustifolia Dusen ex Malme as espécies com menor (0,08 cm) e maior incremento diamétrico (0,83 cm), respectivamente. Considerando-se todas as espécies presentes na área de estudo, a área basal teve um acréscimo de 0,47 m²/ha/ano, indicando um contínuo crescimento em busca de atingir seu estoque completo. A taxa média anual de mortalidade foi de 2,14% e a taxa de ingresso foi de 2,01%. Ilex paraguariensis A. St. Hil. apresentou a maior taxa de mortalidade (1,86%/ano) e Cupania vernalis Cambess. a maior taxa de ingresso (2,18%/ano). Ao serem consideradas as 10 espécies mais importantes, Ocotea porosa (Ness) Barroso apresentou maior incremento anual em diâmetro (0,43 cm/ano) e Araucaria angustifolia (Bertol.) Kuntze com maior incremento em área basal (0,1874 m²/ha/ano). De forma geral, no período de cinco anos, os resultados apontaram para pequenas alterações na dinâmica da floresta e para as 10 espécies mais importantes. Certamente, isso se deve ao estágio de sucessão avançado da floresta avaliada.

ABSTRACT The dynamics was studied in a remnant of an Mixed Ombrophyllous Forest (Araucaria Moist Forest), located in Três Barras National Forest, Três Barras city, Santa Catarina state, in a period of five years (2004-2009). In 2004, it was installed and measured 26 one-hectare permanent plots, subdivided into 10 m x 50 m (500 m²) subplots. All trees with DBH > 10 cm were numbered and evaluated for the taxonomic diversity, the regular annual increment (dbh and basal area), the ingrowth and mortality. In 2009, all plots were measured again to assess changes between the two periods, and the results presented to the entire forest (26 ha) and the 10 most important species. In 2004, the forest had 721 trees/ ha in 2009 passing for 709 trees/ha, distributed in the two occasions in 72 species, 29 families and 53 genus. There was a mean annual increment in diameter (0.27 cm/year), and in basal area (0.28 m²/ha) for the forest as a whole and among the 10 most important species Ilex theezans Mart. ex Reissek and Piptocarpha angustifolia Dusen ex Malme were the species with the lowest (0.08 cm), and highest (0.83 cm), diametric annual increment, respectively. Considering all species present in the study area, the basal area increased by 0.47m²/ha/year, indicating continued growth to reach their full stock. The average annual mortality rate (AMR) was 2.14% and the annual ingrowth rate (AIR) was 2.01%. Ilex paraguariensis A. St. Hil. had the highest AMR (1.86%/year) and Cupania vernalis Cambess. the highest AIR (2.18%/year). When considering the 10 most important species, Ocotea porosa (Ness) Barroso presented higher annual increment in diameter (0.43 cm/year) and Araucaria angustifolia (Bertol.) Kuntze with higher basal area increment (0.1874 m²/ha/year). Overall, in the five-year period, the results showed small changes in the dynamics of forest and for the 10 most important species. The small changes are due to the late successional stage of the forest evaluated.

The study aimed at comparing the floral composition, diversity, spatial distribution and horizontal structure of tree species in two different areas, identified as “A” and “B”, Park Steppe Savannah, located in the Espinilho state Park, southwestern end of the Rio Grande do Sul State, Brazil. The study was carried out using data from two standing units, one hectare each, divided into one hundred subunits measuring one hundred square meters (10 x 10 m) each. Trees with a diameter of 10 cm or above 10 cm at breast height (DBH) were evaluated. Horizontal structure was evaluated by phytosociological parameters: abundance, dominance, frequency. The richness and diversity of the areas were calculated by the Shannon diversity index (H'). Sorensen similarity index was used for the analysis of floristic similarity between the two areas, whereas spatial dispersion of species was analyzed by the Morisita Standardized dispersion index. The comparison between the two areas showed that Espinilho State Park is made up of different types of vegetation, resulting in differences in horizontal structures, diversity and spatial distribution pattern, being Prosopis affinis, the dominant species in area A whereas in area B, Prosopis nigra was the dominant one.

O estudo teve como objetivo avaliar comparativamente a composição florística, diversidade, distribuição espacial e estrutura horizontal das espécies arbóreas em duas áreas distintas, identificadas por A e B, de Savana Estépica Parque, localizada no Parque Estadual do Espinilho, extremo sudoeste do Estado do Rio Grande do Sul, Brasil. Para as análises foram utilizados dados oriundos de duas unidades permanentes de um hectare cada, subdivididas em cem subunidades de cem metros quadrados (10 x 10 m). Foram avaliadas todas as árvores com diâmetro a altura do peito (DAP) igual ou maior que dez centímetros. A estrutura horizontal foi avaliada pelos cálculos das estimativas dos parâmetros fitossociológicos: densidade, dominância, frequência. A riqueza e a diversidade das áreas foram calculadas pelo índice de diversidade de Shannon (H’). Para a análise da similaridade florística entre as duas áreas foi utilizado o índice de similaridade de Sorensen, enquanto que a distribuição espacial das espécies foi analisada por meio do índice de dispersão de Morisita Padronizado. A análise das duas áreas demonstra que o Parque do Espinilho é composto por diferentes tipologias, que resultam em diferenças nas estruturas horizontais, diversidades e no padrão de distribuição espacial, sendo Prosopis affinis a espécie dominante na área A, enquanto que na área B, a dominância foi da espécie Prosopis nigra.

O objetivo deste trabalho foi estimar a biomassa e o carbono orgânico em plantios de Araucaria angustifolia com diferentes idades. Os plantios de Araucaria angustifolia estudados não tiveram intervenções silviculturais relacionadas à desrama, porém, em todos os povoamentos ocorreram práticas de desbaste em diferentes épocas. Nos povoamentos com 32 e 31 anos de idade foram realizados três desbastes. Nos plantios com 30, 29, 25, 24 e 23 anos foram realizados dois desbastes. A determinação de biomassa no campo foi realizada de acordo com o método destrutivo de quantificação, utilizando-se para tanto a amostragem de sete árvores distribuídas aleatoriamente pelo povoamento em cada uma das idades. Os indivíduos foram abatidos, obtendo-se inicialmente as variáveis dendrométricas: DAP, altura total e altura comercial (diâmetro mínimo de 8 cm). O plantio com 23 anos apresentou o maior volume de lenho do fuste (613,02 m³ ha-1), superior aos plantios com 30, 31 e 32 anos (418,41; 520,21 e 518,48 m³ ha-1), respectivamente. Porém, em termos de biomassa do fuste os resultados foram próximos, sendo que o plantio com 23 anos totalizou 138,02 Mg ha-1 e os plantios com 30, 31 e 32 anos somaram 118,77; 128,97 e 155,01 Mg ha-1, respectivamente. Nos plantios de Araucaria angustifolia o estoque total de biomassa e carbono orgânico arbóreo nas diferentes idades consideradas variaram de 60,72 a 289,84 Mg ha-1 e 21,73 a 123,86 Mg ha-1, respectivamente. Ficou evidente que a densidade de plantas e a intensidade de desbaste influenciaram diretamente a biomassa e o carbono estocados.

The objective was to estimate the biomass and organic carbon in Araucaria angustifolia stands with different ages. The Araucaria angustifolia stands studied were not pruning but were thinning in difference ages. In stands of 32 and 31 years-old, were three thinnings. In stands of 30, 29, 25, 24 and 23 years-old, were two thinnings. Biomass avaliation was conducted according to the destructive method, using the sampling of seven trees were randomly distributed in each stand. The plants were harvested, after were obtained the dendrometric variables: DBH, total height and commercial height (minimum diameter of 8 cm). Stand with 23 years had the highest volume of stem wood (613.02 m3 ha-1), followed by 30, 31 and 32 years-old stands (418.41, 520.21 and 518.48 m³ ha-1), respectively. However, in terms of stem biomass the results were similar, 23 years-old stand had 138.02 Mg ha-1 and 30, 31 to 32 years-old totaled 118.77, 128.97 and 155.01 Mg ha-1, respectively. In Araucaria angustifolia stands the total stock biomass and organic carbon in different ages ranged from 60.72 to 289.84 Mg ha-1 and 21.73 to 123.86 Mg ha-1, respectively. Plant densitie and thinning intensity were directly influenced the biomass and carbon stored.

RESUMO O objetivo deste trabalho foi verificar a influência de diferentes espaçamentos de plantio sobre o crescimento vegetativo de pereiras das cvs. Rocha e Hosui, em sistema orgânico de produção. As mudas das pereiras ‘Rocha’ e ‘Hosui’ enxertadas sobre o marmeleiro ‘CP’ foram plantadas em setembro de 2009. Os espaçamentos utilizados foram: 1,0; 0,8; 0,6 e 0,4 m, entre plantas por 3,5 m entre linhas, equivalendo às densidades de plantio de 2.857; 3.571; 4.762 e 7.143 plantas ha-1, respectivamente. Por dois ciclos consecutivos - 2011/2012 e 2012/2013 -, referentes ao terceiro e ao quarto anos após o plantio, respectivamente, foram avaliadas as variáveis diâmetro detronco, diâmetro de ramos e número de ramos. No segundo ciclo, foram avaliados o volume de copa, a área foliar estimada, a cobertura do dossel e os teores de clorofila a, b e total. Considerando as variáveis: projeção vertical de área foliar estimada, volume de copa e diâmetro de tronco e ramos, para a cv. Hosui, observou-se maior vigor vegetativo em relação à cv. Rocha. A cv. Rocha apresentou redução dos teores de clorofila no menor espaçamento entre plantas, enquanto na cv. Hosui os teores de clorofila não variaram com o espaçamento. Ocorreu aumento da área foliar estimada em função do adensamento para as duas cultivares; para o volume de copa, porém, este efeito foi observado apenas para a cv. Hosui, e para o índice de cobertura de dossel, apenas para a cv. Rocha. O maior adensamento de plantio favoreceu as pereiras da cv. Hosui, proporcionando maior volume de copa por área de terreno, sem ocorrer redução dos teores foliares de clorofila, mas com aumento da cobertura do dossel. Para a cv. Rocha, no entanto, adensamentos maiores do que 4.700 plantas ha-1 parecem ser prejudiciais, visto promoverem redução dos teores foliares de clorofila, porém com maior cobertura do dossel, podendo indicar autossombreamento.

ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to determine the influence of planting space on vegetative growth of the pear trees cvs. Rocha and Hosui at different spacing under organic production system. The nursery trees grafted on quince ‘CP’ were planted in September 2009. The adopted spacing were: 1.0, 0.8, 0.6 and 0.4 m among plants with 3.5 m between rows, equivalent to planting densities of 2,857; 3,571; 4,762 and 7,143 plants ha-1, respectively. For two consecutive cycles - 2011/2012 and 2012/2013 – referent to third and fourth year after planting, respectively, it was evaluated the following: diameter of trunk, diameter of branches and number of branches. In the second cycle were evaluated the canopy volume, the estimated vertical projection of leaf area, the canopy cover and the leaf content of chlorophylls a, b and total . Considering the variables vertical projection of estimated leaf area, canopy volume and diameter of trunk and branches, the cv. Hosui showed the greatest vigor. The cv. Rocha presented decreasing chlorophyll content for the increasing in planting density, while for cv. Hosui the chlorophyll content did not vary with the reduction of plant density. There was an increase in leaf area estimated as a function of density for the two cultivars; however, for the canopy volume, this effect was observed only for cv. Hosui, nevertheless index and canopy cover only for cv. Rocha. The highest planting density was favorable for pear trees of cv. Hosui, providing greater canopy volume per area without compromising the levels of leaf chlorophyll and increased canopy cover. However, for pear trees of cv. Rocha, planting density higher than 4,700 plants ha-1, could be harmful, as it decreases the levels of leaf chlorophyll, but keeping increasing canopy cover, which may indicate self-shading.
