ABSTRACT Tifway 419 Bermudagrass is widely used on athletic fields, requiring irrigation and fertilization for its maintenance; however, little information is available for Bermudagrass management in tropical countries, as Brazil. Thus, this study aimed to evaluate the effect of irrigation frequency and nitrogen (N) fertilization on the development of Tifway 419 Bermudagrass. The experiment was carried in 2019, applying two irrigation frequencies (daily and every two days) and five N concentrations of 0, 42.19, 63.28, 105.47 and 126.56 kg N ha-1 divided into three 30-day increments. Photosynthetic pigments, grass height, accumulated dry mass, relative chlorophyll index, regeneration rate, root length, and dry mass of root, rhizome and stolon were analyzed. The best result was observed in between 63.28 and 105.47 kg N ha-1 (15% N) and irrigated every two days. The treatment maintains the green color of the grass. Maximum Bermudagrass regeneration rate was observed within this interval, and the root length and dry mass of roots, rhizomes and stolons were higher compared to the highest concentration.

Abstract This research shows two new microalloyed steels with niobium (Nb) for railroad wheels (Nb1 and Nb2) applied on heavy haul transportation (load over 30 tons/axle). The steels have mixed microstructure composed of pearlite and bainite (finished wheel rim section), and another one composed of martensite with bainite (black wheel section removed on machining) obtained by continuous cooling quenching heat treatment followed by tempering. The bainitic and martensitic microstructure are sensitive to the temper embrittlement phenomenon; therefore, knowing the embrittlement temperature range of these steels is mandatory in order to avoid such an event in the tempering process. Charpy specimens were extracted from the rim of railroad wheels, austenitized (860 ºC), quenched in water for four minutes, and tempered at different temperatures to obtain the embrittlement curve. Three materials were compared: AAR (Association of American Railroads) Class C steel with pearlitic microstructure (not sensitive to embrittlement), Nb1, and Nb2 microalloyed steels with martensitic, bainitic, and pearlitic microstructures. The microalloyed steels have niobium (Nb), molybdenum (Mo), and silicon (Si) addition. The effect of Si content and the microstructure (analyzed by Scanning Electronic Microscope (SEM)), regarding the embrittlement phenomenon, was also studied. The microstructure of Nb2 steel was analyzed by with Transmission Electronic Microscope (TEM) for improving its characterization.

Resumo Com a popularização do futebol, novas tecnologias para auxiliar na manutenção de campos esportivos chegaram no Brasil, o que possibilitou aumentar a qualidade de áreas gramadas, seja em campos de alta ou de baixa performance. Onde, o processo de revitalização se tornou fundamental em campos esportivos instalados com grama esmeralda, para melhorar o desempenho do jogo e desenvolvimento do gramado. Assim, o objeto do presente trabalho foi realizar a revitalização de um campo esportivo de baixa performance no interior de São Paulo instalado com grama esmeralda. Foram realizadas operações de novembro a março, onde inicialmente verificou-se as condições do campo, e foram realizados um conjunto de procedimentos para melhorar a qualidade do gramado, sendo eles: análise química do solo e calagem, corte das folhas e descarte das aparas, descompactação do solo com perfuração com pinos maciços, aplicação de areia (Topdressing), controle de pragas e plantas daninhas, plantio de novos tapetes de grama, adubação de plantio e de manutenção e capacitação técnica para funcionários, para posterior manutenção do campo. Observou-se que todos esses conjuntos de operações foram essenciais e necessários para melhorar a estética e a qualidade do campo esportivo de baixa performance, podendo assim, o gramado ser revitalizado e pronto para uso em partidas de futebol.

Abstract With the increasing popularization of football (soccer), new technologies have arrived in Brazil that assist in the maintenance of sports fields, making it possible to increase the quality of turfgrass in both professional and amateur fields. Thus, the revitalization process has become fundamental in sports fields installed with emerald grass to improve game performance and turfgrass development. The objective of this study was to revitalize an amateur sports field in the interior of São Paulo state, Brazil, planted with emerald grass. The conditions of the field were initially assessed and a set of revitalization procedures were carried out from November 2019 to March 2020 to improve turfgrass quality, including: chemical analysis of the soil and liming; mowing of the grass and disposal of clippings; soil decompaction through aeration with solid tines; application of sand (top dressing); pest and weed control; planting of new sod; fertilization and maintenance. Technical training with employees was also conducted for subsequent field maintenance. All tested operations were essential and necessary to improve the aesthetics and quality of the amateur sports field, so that the turfgrass could be revitalized and ready for use in soccer matches.

Resumo O uso de corantes verdes em gramados esportivos é uma prática comum, tendo como principal objetivo, a manutenção do aspecto da grama, com intuito maximizar a qualidade estética. Os corantes são utilizados para fornecer cor verde as gramas durante períodos de estresse e dormência, sendo considerados uma alternativa para gramas de clima quente durante os meses de inverno. A recente popularidade do uso desse artifício ocorreu devido aos esforços para conservação da água, bem como à redução dos custos das operações, como o “overseeding”. Assim, objetivou-se avaliar a durabilidade e doses de corante orgânico na qualidade visual de grama bermuda DiscoveryTM. O experimento foi instalado a campo, subdividido em parcelas de grama bermuda DiscoveryTM, sendo os tratamentos: 0 ml L-1 (Testemunha), 33 ml L-1, 50 ml L-1, 66,6 ml L-1 (recomendação do fabricante), 83 ml L-1, 100 ml L-1 do corante comercial orgânico específico para gramados. A cada 10 dias foram avaliados os índices de coloração verde, reflectância, vegetação por diferença normalizada (NDVI) e imagem digital. Os resultados indicaram doses entre 66,6 e 83,3 ml L-1 podem ser recomendadas, visto o tempo da durabilidade do produto.

Abstract The painting of sports turfs with colorants is a common practice, with the main objective to maintain grass appearance for maximum aesthetic quality. Colorants are used to provide green color to grasses during periods of stress and dormancy and are considered an alternative for warm weather grasses during the winter months. Recent increases in the use of colorants is due to water conservation efforts as well as lower operating costs compared to winter overseeding. The objective of this study was to evaluate durability and doses of organic colorant in terms of visual quality of DiscoveryTM bermudagrass. The experiment was installed in the field, subdivided into plots of DiscoveryTM bermudagrass treated with lawn-specific commercial, organic colorant as follows 0 ml L-1 (Control); 33 ml L-1; 50 ml L-1; 66.6 ml L-1 (manufacturer’s recommendation); 83 ml L-1; 100 ml L-1. At 10 day intervals the green color index, reflectance, normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI), and digital images were measured and assessed. The results indicate that, given the durability of the product, doses between 66.6 and 83.3 ml L-1 are recommended.

Resumo Uma das técnicas de manejo utilizada nos greens (áreas finais dos buracos) de campo de golfe é a adubação. Para correto programa de adubação destas áreas deve-se conhecer o consumo de nutrientes ao longo do ciclo da planta. Objetivou-se determinar a exportação de nutrientes pelas aparas de grama bermuda Tifdwarf (Cynodon dactylon (L.) Pers. x Cynodon transvaalensis Burtt-Davey) utilizada em greens de campo de golfe, nas quatro estações climáticas, como informação para melhorar o manejo nutricional realizado. O experimento foi realizado em dois campos de golfe no estado de São Paulo. Foram estudados quatro greens em cada campo, pelo período de um ano, sendo adotado um fatorial 4x2 (estações climáticas x campos de golfe) em delineamento inteiramente casualizado. Foram avaliadas a produção de massa seca foliar e a concentração de nutrientes, calculando-se posteriormente a absorção e exportação de nutrientes pelas aparas das folhas. A quantidade exportada de nutrientes pelas aparas de grama foi diferente entre os dois campos de golfe. O verão foi a estação de maior acúmulo e exportação de nutrientes no FG, exceto para Fe. O outono foi a estação de maior acúmulo e exportação de nutrientes no FCA, exceto para Mn e Zn. Considerando a quantidade de nutrientes exportada pelas aparas da grama bermuda Tifdwarf dos greens nos dois campos de golfe estudados, os macronutrientes foram exportados na seguinte ordem: N>K>Ca>P>S>Mg (21,8; 4,3; 2,0; 1,9; 1,8; 0,7 g m-2) e os micronutrientes foram exportados na seguinte ordem: Fe>Zn>Mn>Cu>B (257,8; 27,4; 23,6; 7,8; 6,0 mg m-2).

Abstract One of the management techniques used in greens (final areas of the holes) of golf course is the fertilizer. To correct fertilization program of these areas should know the consumption of nutrients throughout the plant cycle. The objective was to determine the export of nutrients by clipping of Tifdwarf bermudagrass (Cynodon dactylon (L.) Pers. x Cynodon transvaalensis Burtt-Davey) used in golf courses greens in the four weather seasons, as information to improve nutritional management. The research project was conducted in two golf courses in Sao Paulo State. Four greens were studied in each field, for a period of one year, using a 4x2 factorial (weather seasons x golf courses) in a completely randomized design. The production of dry matter and nutrient concentration were evaluated, and the absorption and exportation of nutrients by leaf clippings was subsequently calculated. The amount of nutrients exported by turfgrass clippings was different between the two golf courses. The summer was the season of greatest accumulation and export of nutrients in FG, except for Fe. Autumn was the season of greatest accumulation and export of nutrients in FCA, except for Mn and Zn. Considering the amount of nutrients exported by the greens clippings of the Tifdwarf bermudagrass from the two golf courses studied, the macronutrients were exported in the following order: N>K>Ca>P>S>Mg (21.8, 4.3, 2.0, 1.9, 1.8, 0.7 g m-2) and the micronutrients were exported in the following order: Fe>Zn>Mn>Cu>B (257.8, 27.4, 23.6, 7.8, 6.0 mg m-2).

Resumo A grama Bermuda DiscoveryTM é uma nova variedade de gramado ornamental e esportivo de coloração única (verde azulada), e que tem grande potencial para crescer no Brasil. Entretanto informações referentes ao seu desenvolvimento ainda são incipientes, principalmente relacionados ao manejo da adubação foliar. Assim, objetivou-se avaliar o desenvolvimento de grama Bermuda DiscoveryTM em função de doses de fertilizante foliar. O experimento foi realizado na área experimental, no outono de 2019; e o delineamento experimental foi inteiramente casualizado, com 4 tratamentos e 3 repetições, totalizando 12 parcelas experimentais de 1,5 m2 cada. Os tratamentos foram: 0 mL L-1 (Testemunha), 50 mL L-1, 75 mL L-1 e 100 mL L-1 do fertilizante foliar: NPK (6-2-3 + 20% de aminoácidos). As aplicações foram realizadas com pulverizados costal, ao final da tarde (17h), para evitar perdas por evapotranspiração, e as avaliações foram diárias ao longo de 15 dias. Foram avaliados: análise química do solo, índice de coloração verde, altura do gramado, massa seca das aparas e analise por imagem digital. Observou-se que com o aumento das doses houve melhor desenvolvimento e coloração do gramado, mostrando que a adubação foliar é um método eficaz e de rápida resposta para a grama, havendo a necessidade de aplicações regulares em um intervalo de 7 dias para manter a qualidade estética desejada, entretanto a variedade apresenta baixo crescimento vertical, consequentemente menor necessidade de manutenção de corte comparada as demais gramas Bermudas. Recomenda-se para manejo da espécie a dose de 75 ml L-1.

Abstract Bermuda grass DiscoveryTM is a new variety of ornamental and sports turfgrass with a unique color (bluish green), which has great potential to grow in Brazil. However, information regarding its development is still incipient, mainly related to the management of foliar fertilization. Thus, the aimed was to evaluate the development of Bermuda grass DiscoveryTM based on doses of foliar fertilizer. The experiment was carried out in the experimental area, in 2019 autumn; and the experimental design was completely randomized, with 4 treatments and 3 repetitions, totaling 12 experimental plots of 1.5 m2 each. The treatments were: 0 mL L-1 (Control), 50 mL L-1, 75 mL L-1 and 100 mL L-1 of the foliar fertilizer: NPK (6-2-3 + 20% amino acids). The applications were carried out with costal spray, in the late afternoon (17h), to avoid losses by evapotranspiration, and the evaluations were daily over 15 days. The following were evaluated: chemical analysis of the soil, green color index, height of the lawn, dry mass of the clippings and analysis by digital image. It was observed that with the doses increasing, there was better development and coloring of the lawn, showing that foliar fertilization is an effective and quick response method for the turfgrass, with the need for regular applications in an interval of 7 days to maintain the quality desired aesthetics. However, this variety presents low vertical growth, consequently less need for maintenance of cut compared to the other Bermuda grass. The dose of 75 mL L-1 is recommended for the management of the species.

Resumo A história da grama cultivada no Brasil é algo recente se comparado às culturas agrícolas convencionais. Nesta revisão são descritos o início da produção de grama no Brasil e a introdução da grama Esmeralda, bem como o surgimento das Associações de Produtores de Grama que coincide com a forte expansão do setor. São apresentados também espécies e cultivares de gramas cultivadas no Brasil, sendo descritas as suas principais características. O texto relata também os poucos levantamentos de área de produção de grama no país, sendo possível avaliar a evolução do plantio e as características do mercado.

Abstract The history of sod production in Brazil is somewhat recent when compared with conventional agricultural crops. This review describes the beginning of sod production in Brazil and the introduction of Emerald grass, as well as the emergence of Sod Growers Associations, which coincides with the marked expansion of the sector. The grass species and cultivars grown in Brazil are also presented and the main characteristics described. The text also reports few data in sod production area in the country, providing an overview planting evolution and characteristics of the market.

Resumo Para se manter a qualidade de um gramado e para que este exerça suas funções (estética, valorização do imóvel, redução temperatura do ar, etc.) se faz necessário o uso da irrigação de maneira racional e de adequada adubação. O uso da água residuária do tratamento de esgoto, que possui uma carga de nutrientes, na irrigação, pode ser alternativa, principalmente se aplicada via subsuperficial, para reduzir riscos de contaminação. Objetivou-se com esse trabalho avaliar o desenvolvimento e a qualidade de gramado ornamental com Zoysia japonica Steud, irrigado com lâminas de água residuária, por dois métodos. O trabalho foi realizado em Botucatu, SP, durante inverno e primavera (junho a dezembro de 2016). Os tratamentos consistiram em dois métodos de irrigação (aspersão e gotejamento subsuperficial) e quatro lâminas de água residuária doméstica (50%, 100%, 150% e 200% da evapotranspiração média diária) e o controle com água tratada fornecida pela Sabesp de Botucatu, SP, repondo 100% da evapotranspiração média diária. Foram estudadas as seguintes características: massa da matéria seca de aparas, índice relativo de clorofila, a altura do gramado, coliformes totais e Escherichia coli no tecido vegetal e concentração de nutriente nas folhas. A irrigação via gotejamento subsuperficial, com água residuária, utilizando 100% da lâmina média da evapotranspiração, permitiu desenvolvimento adequado do gramado com Zoysia japonica (grama esmeralda), mantendo a sua qualidade, e sem contaminação por coliformes totais e Escherichia coli.

Abstract To maintain the quality of a lawn and allow it to perform its functions (esthetics, enhancement of property, reduction of air temperature, etc.) efficient use of irrigation and adequate fertilization are necessary. The use of wastewater from sewage treatment, which has a nutrient load, in irrigation, can be an alternative especially if applied via subsurface, to reduce contamination risks. This study was conducted to examine the development and quality of an ornamental lawn of Zoysia japonica Steud (zoysiagrass) irrigated with wastewater depths, by two methods. The experiment was carried out in Botucatu-SP, Brazil, during winter and spring (June to December 2016). The treatments consisted of two irrigation methods (sprinkling and subsurface drip) and four domestic-wastewater irrigation depths (50%, 100%, 150% and 200% of the average daily evapotranspiration) plus control, where treated water was supplied by the Basic Sanitation Company of São Paulo State (Sabesp) of Botucatu, SP, Brazil, replacing 100% of average daily evapotranspiration. The following characteristics were studied: clipping dry matter weight, relative chlorophyll content, lawn height, total coliforms and Escherichia coli in the plant tissue and nutrient concentration in the leaves. Subsurface drip irrigation with wastewater, using an irrigation depth of 100% of the average evapotranspiration, allowed an adequate development of the zoysiagrass lawn by maintaining its quality, without contamination by total coliforms or Escherichia coli.

Resumo O corretivo de acidez mais comumente utilizado nos solos tropicais é o calcário, porém a escória de aciaria pode ser alternativa para áreas de produção de grama, devido à presença do silício que pode aumentar a tolerância da grama a estresses bióticos e/ou abióticos. Este estudo foi desenvolvido para avaliar o efeito da aplicação de escória de aciaria, comparado ao calcário, na implantação de um sistema de produção de grama bermuda. O experimento foi instalado em Botucatu-SP e o delineamento experimental utilizado foi em blocos ao acaso em fatorial 2 x 5 com 4 repetições. Os tratamentos foram compostos por dois corretivos (escória de aciaria e calcário) e doses dos corretivos calculados para elevar as saturações por bases do solo para 12% (atual), 30%, 50%, 70% e 90%. A aplicação de doses de calcário e de escória de aciaria proporcionaram efeitos positivos nos atributos químicos do solo relacionados com a correção da acidez, como o pH, teores de Ca e Mg, H+Al, Al, CTC, SB, e V%. A escória proporcionou maiores teores de P, Ca e Si, enquanto o calcário maior teor de Mg no solo. A escória de aciaria proporcionou uma maior taxa de cobertura do solo pela grama bermuda quando comparado ao calcário, aos 114 e 161 DAT (dias após o transplantio), sendo a máxima taxa de cobertura obtida com a saturação por bases de 60% aos 161 DAT. As gramas que receberam a escória apresentaram maior quantidade de raízes, rizomas e estolões, quando comparados ao calcário. Sugere-se o uso da escoria de siderurgia, e, no cálculo da necessidade de corretivo, a saturação por bases do solo de 90%.

Abstract Limestone is the most commonly used acidity-correction agent in tropical soils. However, steel slag can be an alternative for turfgrass production areas because it contains silicon, which can increase turfgrass tolerance to biotic and/or abiotic stresses. This study was developed to evaluate the effect of the application of steel slag, as compared with limestone, on a bermudagrass sod production system. The experiment was carried out in Botucatu-SP, Brazil, in a randomized block design arranged in a factorial scheme 2 × 5 with 4 replications. Treatments consisted of two correctives (steel slag and limestone) and their rates, which were calculated to raise the soil base saturation to 12% (current), 30%, 50%, 70% and 90%. The application of lime and steel slag rates had positive effects on soil chemical attributes related to acidity correction, such as pH, Ca, Mg, H + Al, Al, CEC, SB, and base saturation (%). The slag provided higher levels of P, Ca, and Si, whereas limestone increased the Mg soil content. Steel slag provided a higher ground cover rate for bermudagrass than limestone at 114 and 161 days after transplanting (DAT), with maximum cover rate achieved with 60% base saturation at 161 DAT. The turfgrasses treated with slag showed a higher amount of roots, rhizomes, and stolons when compared with those treated with limestone. It is suggested the use of steel slag and, in calculating the need for corrective, 90% soil base saturation.

Resumo O lodo de esgoto é um material de baixo custo e alternativa sustentável para substituir fertilizantes químicos em gramados e jardins ornamentais. Assim, o objetivo do trabalho foi avaliar os efeitos da aplicação de lodo de esgoto nas características estéticas e na rebrota da grama bermuda DiscoveryTM. O experimento foi realizado durante o outono/inverno de 2019, onde o gramado foi retirado com uma colhedora própria e deixado o solo exposto para uma nova rebrota da grama, e assim foram aplicados 0; 357; 714; 1071 e 1.428 g m-2 de lodo de esgoto espalhados uniformemente no gramado em dose única. As avaliações foram realizadas após 120 dias, sendo: solução do solo (CE e NO3 -), Índice de vegetação por diferença normalizada, comprimento de raiz, volume de raiz+rizoma+estolão+folhas e análise por imagem digital. Os resultados demonstraram que o aumento das doses de lodo influenciou positivamente o desenvolvimento do gramado, tanto no aspecto estético quanto nas avaliações de rebrota do tapete. A solução do solo pôde evidenciar que o lodo aumentou a condutividade elétrica e íons de NO3 -, contudo não prejudicou o desenvolvimento do gramado, havendo inclusive correlações positivas entre essas variáveis e as avaliações biométricas da planta. Conclui-se que a dose de 1.428 g m-2 de lodo de esgoto apresentou os melhores resultados para as características avaliadas, sendo a dose recomendada para uso na grama bermuda DiscoveryTM.

Abstract The sewage sludge is a low-cost material and sustainable alternative to substitute chemical fertilizers on ornamental lawns and gardens. Thus, the objective was to evaluate the effects of the application of sewage sludge on the regrowth and ornamental traits of DiscoveryTM bermudagrass. The experiment was carried out during the fall/winter of 2019. The turf was removed and left the soil exposed for a new grass regrowth. The treatments applied were 0, 357, 714, 1,071 and 1,428 g m-2 sewage sludge spread evenly on the lawn in a single dose. The evaluations were carried out after 120 days and the soil solution (EC and NO3 -), Normalized difference vegetation index, root length, root + rhizome + stolon + leaves volume and digital image analysis were evaluated. The results showed that the increase of sewage sludge positively influenced the turfgrass development, both in the aesthetic aspect and on bermudagrass regrowth. The soil solution can show that the sludge increased the electrical conductivity and NO3- ions; however, it did not hinder the development of the lawn, even having positive correlations between these variables and the biometric evaluations of the plant. It is concluded that the dose of 1,428 g m-2 presented the best results for the evaluated characteristics, being the recommended one for use in the fertilization of bermudagrass DiscoveryTM.

Resumo A grama bermuda DiscoveryTM tem sito utilizada em gramados ornamentais e esportivos de baixa tráfego, pelas suas caraterísticas de coloração verde intensa e lento crescimento, como alternativa na busca de reduzir os custos com manutenção, como corte e adubação nitrogenada. Entretanto, pouco se sabe sobre as recomendações de adubação em épocas de inverno, principalmente a adubação nitrogenada. Nesse sentido, objetivou-se avaliar diferentes doses de N no desenvolvimento da grama bermuda DiscoveryTM no inverno. O experimento foi realizado durante o inverno, em uma área com gramado DiscoveryTM já implementada. O delineamento foi inteiramente causalizados, com cinco doses de N (0, 15, 30, 45 e 60 g de N m-2) por meio da aplicação de ureia, com 4 repetições, sendo usada 20% das doses, de acordo com a exigência da cultura para o inverno ano em aplicação única. Os parâmetros avaliados foram: índice de cor verde (ICV), (Scout CM-1000 e Scout TCM 500), índice de cor verde escuro, índice de cor verde G, brilho, matiz, saturação, altura, massa seca e tração do gramado. Observou-se que com o aumento das doses de N houve um aumento nas avaliações biométricas, porém a análise por imagem digital mostrou resultados desiguais, e a tração do gramado não diferiu entre os tratamentos. Doses maiores proporcionaram um melhor aspecto visual do gramado, mas pelo aspecto econômico, conclui-se que o uso de 20% das doses entre 30 e 40 g N m-2, aplicado apenas uma vez durante o inverno, é mais recomendado para o desenvolvimento da grama bermuda DiscoveryTM.

Abstract DiscoveryTM bermudagrass has been used in ornamental and sporty low-traffic turfgrass, due to its intense green coloring and slow growth, as an alternative in the search to reduce maintenance costs, such as cutting and nitrogen fertilization. However, little is known about fertilization recommendations in winter seasons, especially nitrogen fertilization. In this sense, the objective was to evaluate different doses of N in the development of bermudagrass DiscoveryTM in winter. The experiment was carried out during the winter, in an area with DiscoveryTM lawn already implemented. The design was entirely causalized, with 5 doses of N (0, 15, 30, 45 and 60 g N m-2) through the application of urea, with four repetitions, using 20% of the doses, according to crop requirement for winter, in a single application. The evaluated parameters were green color index (GCI), (Scout CM-1000 and Scout TCM 500), height, dry mass, traction and analysis by digital image of the lawn. It was observed that with the increase of N doses there was an increase in biometric assessments, however the analysis by digital image showed uneven results, and the traction of the lawn did not differ between treatments. Larger doses provided a better visual aspect of the lawn, but for the economic aspect, it is concluded that the use of 20% of the doses between 30 and 40 g N m-2, applied only once during the winter, is more recommended for the development of the DiscoveryTM bermudagrass.

Resumo Extratos de algas marinhas são empregados como bioestimulantes devido aos seus efeitos positivos durante o crescimento e rendimento da cultura. O extrato de algas marinhas de Ascophyllum nodosum podem melhorar o crescimento e desenvolvimento de plântulas e diminuir os custos de produção; entretanto, a concentração correta deve ser usada para maximizar os efeitos bioestimulantes. Nesse sentido, o objetivo deste estudo foi analisar os efeitos de diferentes concentrações de um bioestimulante à base de algas marinhas (Ascophyllum nodosum) na germinação e crescimento inicial de plântulas de girassol ornamental. Sementes de girassol ornamental cv. “Sol Pleno” foram semeadas em bandejas de polietileno contendo substrato comercial. Os tratamentos aplicados consistiram em 60 mL com 0 (controle), 5, 10 ou 15 mL L-1 de bioestimulante, pulverizados diariamente. O delineamento experimental foi inteiramente casualizado com 4 tratamentos (concentrações de extrato de alga marinha) e 4 repetições (10 sementes replicadas-1). As variáveis avaliadas foram porcentagem, índice e tempo médio de germinação, altura de plântulas, massa fresca e seca de parte aérea e raízes e morfologia do sistema radicular (WinRhizo). O aumento da concentração de bioestimulante aumentou a germinação das sementes e o desenvolvimento das plântulas, e 15 mL L-1 de bioestimulante promoveram os melhores resultados para porcentagem e índice de germinação e menor índice de tempo de germinação, além de aumentar a altura das plantas e a massa fresca e seca da parte aérea em relação ao tratamento controle. Assim, a concentração de 15 mL L-1 de biosimulante (Ascophyllum nodosum) é recomendada para a germinação de sementes de girassol ornamental “Sol Pleno” e crescimento de plântulas.

Abstract Seaweed extracts are employed as biostimulants due to their beneficial effects on crop growth and yield. Ascophyllum nodosum seaweed extract aid to improve seedling growth and development, and decrease seedlings production costs; however, the correct concentration must be used in order to maximize the biostimulant effects. Consequently, this study aimed to analyze the effects of different concentrations of a seaweed-based (Ascophyllum nodosum) biostimulant on ornamental sunflower seed germination and seedling growth. Seeds of ornamental sunflower cv. “Sol Pleno” were sown in polyethylene trays containing commercial substrate. The treatments consisted of dairy spraying 60 mL of the solutions 0 (control), 5, 10 or 15 mL L-1 biostimulant on substrate. The experimental design was completely randomized with 4 treatments (concentrations of biostimulant) and 4 replicates (10 seeds replicate-1). The evaluated variables were percentage, index and time averages of germination, seedling height, fresh and dry mass of shoot and roots, and root system morphology (WinRhizo). The increase of the biostimulant concentration enhances seed germination and seedlings development. The concentration 15 mL L-1 biostimulant showed the best results for percentage and index of germination and the lowest mean germination time and increase plant height and fresh and dry mass of shoots in relation to the control treatment. Accordingly, 15 mL L-1 biostimulant (Ascophyllum nodosum) is recommended for ornamental sunflower “Sol Pleno” seed germination and seedlings growth.

Heavy haul transportation (load over 30 tons/axle), as well as the axle load, has been more and more used in Brazil and worldwide. The stress generated in the wheel-rail contact with loads up to 30 tons/axle is around 760 MPa, which causes premature wear and cracks of conventional wheels (AAR (Association of American Railroads) class C). Microalloyed wheels are fundamental on heavy haul transport, whose main function is to combine high hardness, ductility, and yield strength of the material in order to prevent shelling. The main purpose of this research is to develop a new microalloyed wheel steel with niobium addition that meets all the requirements of the AAR class D material with mixed microstructure composed of pearlite and bainite. The 0.71C/0.020Nb steel developed in this study (Nb material) for railroad achieved the standards required for AAR class D in all mechanical properties, with fracture toughness higher than the usual vanadium microalloyed steel used in comparison. The Continuous Cooling Transformation (CCT) diagram showed the presence of bainite even at very low cooling rate, in the range between 0.3 - 2 °C/s. These cooling rates to form bainite are much lower than those observed in other steels with similar composition.

Resumo Objetivou-se com este trabalho avaliar se o uso de lodo de esgoto compostado na produção de grama esmeralda pode substituir parcial ou totalmente a adubação com uréia. O experimento foi conduzido em área de produção de grama, localizada em Itapetininga-SP. O delineamento experimental utilizado foi de blocos ao acaso, com cinco repetições e parcelas experimentais de 5 m2 em esquema fatorial 2x6, sendo o primeiro fator a forma de aplicação, parcelada e não parcelada e o segundo fator a adubação com lodo de esgoto compostado e duas testemunhas (sem adubação e dose usual de adubação inorgânica). A dose de adubo inorgânico foi correspondente a 300 kg N ha-1 e as doses de lodo de esgoto compostado foram correspondentes a 100, 200, 300 e 400 kg N ha-1. O início do experimento ocorreu 60 dias após a colheita dos tapetes de grama esmeralda, com a realização de calagem em área total. Foram utilizados três métodos para avaliar a produção do tapete de grama esmeralda: taxa de cobertura do solo, intensidade de cor verde e análise foliar. Aos 212 dias após o início do experimento, a adubação orgânica com lodo de esgoto compostado, na dose de 30 Mg ha-1 (300 kg ha-1 de N), aplicado de forma não parcelada, permitiu formação do tapete de grama (100% taxa de cobertura do solo).

Abstract This study evaluated whether the use of composted sewage sludge in zoysia grass sod production can partially or completely substitute fertilization based on urea. The experiment was conducted on a sod farm located in Itapetininga, São Paulo State, Brazil. The experimental design was a complete randomized block design with five replications and experimental plots of 5 m2 in a 2x6 factorial scheme. The first factor was the method of application (single or split), and the second factor was composted sewage sludge fertilization and two controls (no fertilization and a standard dose of conventional fertilizer). The conventional fertilizer (urea) dose corresponds to 300 kg N ha-1 and the sewage compost doses correspond to 100, 200, 300, and 400 kg N ha-1. The experiment began with the liming of the total area at 60 days after the previous harvest of zoysia grass sod. Three methods were used to evaluate sod production: soil cover rate, green color intensity, and leaf analysis. At 212 days after the beginning of the experiment, the compost treatment of 30 Mg ha-1 (300 kg ha-1 of N), applied in a single dose, allowed for complete sod formation (100% soil cover rate).

ABSTRACT The objectives of this study were to evaluate substrates produced from the peach-palm agroindustry waste and sewage sludge as a source of nutrients for the production of Brazilian Peppertree seedlings (Schinus terebinthifolius Raddi), and to compare the performance of these substrates under various levels of slow release fertilizer for this species. Four levels of fertilizer were tested (0, 2.0, 4.0 and 6.0 g dm–3) in three types of substrates: BIOCPI = Sewage sludge + Peach-palm bark (1:1 v:v); BIOCPII = Sewage sludge + Peach-palm bark (1:2 v:v) and BIOCPIII = Sewage sludge + Peach-palm bark (1:3 v:v). Plant height, stem diameter, dry matter (shoot and root), height/diameter ratio, Dickson quality index and N, P, K, Ca, Mg, and S contents in the shoot were measured. The use of the substrates BIOCPII and BIOCPIII proved to be viable for the production of Brazilian Peppertree seedlings. Doses above 4.0 gdm–3 of granular fertilizer are recommended for better results.
