ABSTRACT The horizontal transmission of the entomopathogenic fungus Beauveria bassiana Unioeste 76 strain among adults of Euschistus heros was evaluated in the laboratory and greenhouse using sporulated cadavers and live insects contaminated as a source of inoculate. Adult insects in the laboratory bioassay either received treatments with dry conidia or were sprayed with an oily dispersion formulation, and the treatments were comprised of 10, 30, or 50% of contaminated insects. For the greenhouse bioassay, nylon cages were prepared, with soybean plants grown in pots. A total of 20 healthy brown stink bugs were released along with one or three sporulated cadavers of brown stink bugs, attached to the plant stem. In the bioassay with live insects, 20 stink bugs were released, and the treatments were comprised of 10, 30, or 50% contaminated insects (2:18, 6:14, and 10:10, fungus-treated insects : healthy insects). In all experiments, the control group was comprised only of healthy insects. Dead stink bugs were daily disinfested and transferred to a wet chamber for confirmation of death by fungus. Confirmed mortality was observed, which shows the occurrence of horizontal transmission. Mortality was higher when more contaminated insects were used in the population, in most treatments. The occurrence of transmission in the laboratory and the greenhouse emphasizes the potential of the Unioeste 76 strain as mortality agent and as an agent for maintaining the inoculum potential for the brown stink bug. 7 inoculate formulation 10 30 50 prepared pots 2 stem 218, 218 18, 18 (2:18 614, 614 6 14, 14 6:14 1010, 1010 10:10 fungustreated treated . insects) experiments observed population bug 1 3 5 21 (2:1 61 6:1 101 10:1 (2: 6: 10: (2 (

ABSTRACT The limited temporal completeness and taxonomic accuracy of species lists, made available in a traditional manner in scientific publications, has always represented a problem. These lists are invariably limited to a few taxonomic groups and do not represent up-to-date knowledge of all species and classifications. In this context, the Brazilian megadiverse fauna is no exception, and the Catálogo Taxonômico da Fauna do Brasil (CTFB) (http://fauna.jbrj.gov.br/), made public in 2015, represents a database on biodiversity anchored on a list of valid and expertly recognized scientific names of animals in Brazil. The CTFB is updated in near real time by a team of more than 800 specialists. By January 1, 2024, the CTFB compiled 133,691 nominal species, with 125,138 that were considered valid. Most of the valid species were arthropods (82.3%, with more than 102,000 species) and chordates (7.69%, with over 11,000 species). These taxa were followed by a cluster composed of Mollusca (3,567 species), Platyhelminthes (2,292 species), Annelida (1,833 species), and Nematoda (1,447 species). All remaining groups had less than 1,000 species reported in Brazil, with Cnidaria (831 species), Porifera (628 species), Rotifera (606 species), and Bryozoa (520 species) representing those with more than 500 species. Analysis of the CTFB database can facilitate and direct efforts towards the discovery of new species in Brazil, but it is also fundamental in providing the best available list of valid nominal species to users, including those in science, health, conservation efforts, and any initiative involving animals. The importance of the CTFB is evidenced by the elevated number of citations in the scientific literature in diverse areas of biology, law, anthropology, education, forensic science, and veterinary science, among others. publications problem uptodate up date classifications context exception (CTFB http//fauna.jbrj.gov.br/, httpfaunajbrjgovbr http //fauna.jbrj.gov.br/ , jbrj gov br (http://fauna.jbrj.gov.br/) 2015 Brazil 80 specialists 1 2024 133691 133 691 133,69 125138 125 138 125,13 82.3%, 823 82 3 (82.3% 102000 102 000 102,00 7.69%, 769 7 69 (7.69% 11000 11 11,00 . 3,567 3567 567 (3,56 2,292 2292 2 292 (2,29 1,833 1833 833 (1,83 1,447 1447 447 (1,44 1000 1,00 831 (83 628 (62 606 (60 520 (52 50 users science health biology law anthropology education others http//fauna.jbrj.gov.br/ faunajbrjgovbr //fauna.jbrj.gov.br (http://fauna.jbrj.gov.br/ 201 8 202 13369 13 133,6 12513 12 125,1 82.3% (82.3 10200 10 00 102,0 7.69% 76 6 (7.69 1100 11,0 3,56 356 56 (3,5 2,29 229 29 (2,2 1,83 183 83 (1,8 1,44 144 44 (1,4 100 1,0 (8 62 (6 60 52 (5 5 http//fauna.jbrj.gov.br (http://fauna.jbrj.gov.br 20 1336 133, 1251 125, 82.3 (82. 1020 0 102, 7.69 (7.6 110 11, 3,5 35 (3, 2,2 22 (2, 1,8 18 (1, 1,4 14 4 ( 82. ABSTRACT The oral involvement in the Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation is well described in the literature. The goal of the dental treatment and management of the oral lesions related to the HSCT is to reduce the harm caused by preexisting oral infection or even the worsening of oral acute/chronic GVHD and late effects. The aim of this guideline was to discuss the dental management of patients subjected to HSCT, considering three phases of the HSCT: pre-HSCT, acute phase, and late phase. The literature published from 2010 to 2020 was reviewed in order to identify dental interventions in this patient population. The selected papers were divided into three groups: pre-HSCT, acute and late, and were reviewed by the SBTMO Dental Committee's members. When necessary, an expertise opinion was considered for better translating the guideline recommendations to our population dental characteristics. This manuscript focused on the pre-HSCT dental management. The objective of the pre-HSCT dental management is to identify possible dental situations that On behalf of the Dental Committee of the Brazilian Society of Gene Therapy and Bone Marrow Transplantation (SBTMO) can worsening during the acute phase after the HSCT. Each guideline recommendations were made considering the Dentistry Specialties. The clinical consensus on dental management prior to HSCT provides professional health caregivers with clinical setting-specific information to help with the management of dental problems in patients to be subjected to HSCT. acutechronic chronic effects preHSCT, preHSCT pre 201 202 groups Committees s members necessary characteristics (SBTMO Specialties settingspecific setting specific 20 2

ABSTRACT Patients undergoing hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) might present acute and late toxicities and the oral tissues are frequently affected. With the survival increasing, patients show late and long-term morbidities, and there is an important association between the general and the oral health. The first and second parts of this Consensus have showed the importance of the adequacy of oral health in the pre-HSCT, and the main alterations and oral care during the period of admission for HSCT. This third part aims to review specific themes of post-HSCT dental care, such as graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) and the pediatric patient. It also aims to review pertinent subjects, both during the HSCT period and post-HSCT, concerning quality of life, pain, cost-effectiveness, and remote care. Based on this review, it is evident the importance of the work of the dental surgeon (DS) in the follow-up and treatment of the HSCT patient, always collaborating with the whole multidisciplinary team.
ABSTRACT Physical Activity (PA) is a predictive factor of diseases and health promotion. Resilience (R) is a positive reaction in the face of a catastrophe, threat or stressful situation, and coronary risk (CR) is important in the study of health. This study aimed to analyse and correlate the levels of PA, R and CR in the students of the Physical Education Course of the UEPA. In addition to the field, analytic, comparative and correlational, conducted from March to May 2022 with 60 students, the data were collected through the Baecke PA Level Questionnaire, the R Scale questionnaire and the UFSM RC assessment questionnaire, treated using absolute and relative values, mean and standard deviation, χ2 test, Student t, ANOVA one way and Pearson correlation. The results indicate a higher prevalence of Good Grade of R, Level of Regular PA and Level of Remote CR, higher PA index in women and CR in men, correlation between age and R and negative between PA and CR, which suggests adequate R and CR, but lower PA; men need to improve their PA and decrease CR.

Abstract The Santos Basin (SB) is the main petroliferous basin in the Brazilian continental margin and one of the most studied marine areas in Brazil. However, historical data suggest that new efforts should be carried out to acquire quantitative biological data, especially in the deep sea, to establish the baseline of essential ocean variables in different ecosystems for future monitoring programs. The Brazilian energy company Petrobras planned and executed 24 oceanographic cruises over a period of 2 years to assess the benthic (SANSED cruise) and pelagic (SANAGU cruise) systems of the SB (356 days at sea in 2019 and 2021/2022). These efforts were part of the Santos Project, which comprised a comprehensive environmental study aimed at investigating benthic and pelagic variables to characterize ecology, biogeochemistry, thermohaline properties of water masses, and ocean circulation patterns, geomorphology, and sedimentology, as well as organic and inorganic chemistry. Here we present the detailed sampling designs and the field methods employed on board, during the SB scientific cruises. All sampling protocols were based on standardized approaches. For the benthos analyses, triplicate sediment samples were performed using a GOMEX-type box corer (0.25 m²) or a large modified Van Veen grab (0.75 m²) at 100 stations ranging from 25 to 2400 m depth. At each station, 25 geochemical and physico-chemical parameters were analyzed in addition to micro-, meio-, and macrofauna and living foraminifera samples. For the pelagic system, 60 stations were selected to investigate the plankton community, ranging in size from pico- to macroplankton, through vertical, horizontal, and oblique net hauls (20, 200, and 500 μm mesh size), as well as 25 biogeochemical parameters collected with an aid of a CTD-rosette sampler. Part of this scientific information also serves the Regional Environmental Characterization Project (PCR-BS) in support of Petrobras’ Santos Basin drilling licensing process led by the Brazilian Environmental Agency – IBAMA. This project contributes to the sustainable development of the SB, in line with the guidelines of the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development.
ABSTRACT: In dry regions worldwide, providing feed for ruminants has been a great challenge, with a need to use plants which contribute to the resilience of production systems. Maniçoba is seen as a potential forage resource in the Brazilian semiarid, being used as hay or silage to feed ruminants. This review summarized results regarding forage production of maniçoba, in addition to dry matter (DM) intake, productive performance, and quality of animal products obtained providing maniçoba based diets, when compared to diets composed by other roughages for goats and sheep. Considering the evaluated studies, the average yield of maniçoba varied from 367 to 1,592 kg DM ha-1, enhancing the forage yield by increasing plant fertilization and planting density. Diets based on maniçoba promoted similar or higher intake of DM and productive performance for goats and sheep, when compared to diets comprising other forage resources. The quality of animal products was also similar to the ones obtained with diets based on traditional roughages, such as Tifton 85 hay or spineless cactus. Therefore, maniçoba allows a forage production that may contribute to ruminant production systems in semiarid environment and promote productive performance and animal product quality compatible to the ones provided by traditional forage plants.

O questionário Hearing Handicap Inventory for the Elderly - Screening version - HHIE-S, foi aplicado para quantificar o handicap auditivo.
ABSTRACT Purpose To verify the relationship between hearing handicap and frailty in community-dwelling older adults. Methods A cross-sectional study was carried out with 238 older adults (aged ≥ 60 years) in 2018. The Hearing Handicap Inventory for the Elderly – Screening version – HHIE-S was applied to assess the hearing handicap. To assess frailty, the Frailty Phenotype proposed for Fried and co-workers was adopted, objectively evaluating 5 criteria: unintentional weight loss, reported fatigue, reduced grip strength, reduced walking speed and low physical activity. It was investigated whether the hearing handicap were related with frailty using Kruskal-Wallis and Spearman test. Results Worse perception of the hearing handicap was found in pre-frail and frail individuals, compared to non-frail individuals. In addition, hearing handicap showed a positive and statistically significant correlation with frailty. Conclusion Hearing handicap is related to frailty in community-dwelling older adults.

SUMMARY OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to perform dosimetric analysis of radiotherapy (RT) plans with or without elective nodal irradiation (ENI) and estimate whether the increase in mean doses (MDs) in the heart and lungs with ENI may lead to late side effects that may surpass the benefits of treatment. METHODS: The dosimetric analysis of 30 treatment plans was done with or without ENI. The planning and dose-volume histograms were analyzed, and the impact on the mortality of cardiovascular and lung cancer was estimated based on the correlation of the dosimetric data with data from population studies. RESULTS: RT with ENI increased the doses in the lungs and heterogeneity in the plans compared to breast-exclusive RT. When the increase in MDs is correlated with the increase of late side-effect risks, the most important effect of ENI is the increased risk of lung cancer, especially in patients who smoke (average increase in absolute risk=1.38%). The increase in the absolute risk of cardiovascular diseases was below 0.1% in the all the situations analyzed. CONCLUSIONS: ENI increases the heterogeneity and the doses at the lungs. When recommending ENI, the risks and benefits must be taken into account, considering the oncology factors and the plan of each patient. Special attention must be given to patients who smoke as ENI may lead to a significant increase in MD in the lung and the increased risk of radiation-induced lung cancer may surpass the benefits from this treatment.

ABSTRACT Understanding the dynamics of forest species occupation in savanna and grasslands environments allows us to assess how forest expansion operates over time. For eleven years, the population dynamics of Tachigali rubiginosa (Mart. ex. Tul.) Oliveira-Filho was registered to evaluate the occupation strategy of this species in the ecotone between forest (Mata de Galeria) and grassland (Campo Sujo), located within the Capetinga stream basin, at Fazenda Água Limpa, Federal District. This area has been protected from wildfires since 1987. This study allocated thirty-one transects of 5 m x 100 m perpendicularly to the Capetinga stream, covering forest and grassland environments. The measurements were taken from adult trees (DBH ≥ 5 cm), young trees (height > 1 m and DBH < 5 cm) and seedlings (height ≤ 1 m and DBH < 5 cm). The results indicated that, in the studied period, the population of T. rubiginosa increased from 179.5 to 262.8 ind / ha. In 2007, of the total of 280 individuals in 1.56 ha, 96 of them were in the forest (0.22 ha), 103 in the ecotone (0.16 ha), and 81 in the grassland (1.18 ha). In 2018, this proportion changed when the number of individuals decreased in the forest (83 individuals), while the number increased in the ecotone (135 individuals) and in the grassland (194 individuals). In 2007, the young trees dominated with 71% of the total, followed by the adults trees (28.5%) and the seedlings (20.7%). In 2018, the young trees represented most individuals (39.2%), but there was a balance between the three size categories, as the seedlings represented 30.0% and adults trees 30.7%. Over the period of the study, there was an increase in the population of T. rubiginosa, especially of young individuals, which indicates persistence over time and an expansion of this forest species into grassland environments.

Objective: to analyze elements of the follow-up care provided to premature children amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. Method: qualitative study from the perspective of philosophical hermeneutics, interpreting experiences with childcare provided at home. Twelve mothers and 14 children aged two years old were interviewed online via a text messaging application. Data were analyzed by interpreting meanings. Results: weaknesses stood out in the follow-up care provided to children such as gaps of communication, lack of guidance and delayed immunizations, while care intended to meet health demands was interrupted. Vulnerability aspects affecting child development included: social isolation measures that impeded the children from socializing with their peers, increased screen time, the manifestation of demanding behaviors and irritation and the mothers experiencing an overload of responsibilities. The elements that strengthened maternal care included the mothers being attentive to contagion, enjoying greater experience and satisfaction with the maternal role, spending more time with their children, and recognizing respiratory signs and symptoms, especially fever. Conclusion: follow-up care provided to children in stressful situations implies implementing practices that support the wellbeing of children and families, decreasing the likelihood of children being exposed to development deficits, and detecting signs and symptoms timely. The use of nursing call centers can break the invisibility of longitudinal needs and promote health education actions at home.

Abstract INTRODUCTION Suckling by schistosomotic mice improves anti-ovalbumin (OA) antibody production, while delayed-type hypersensitivity (DTH) remains unaffected. This property of milk from schistosomotic mice was investigated in IL-12/IL-23-deficient mice (IL-12p40KO). METHODS We compared anti-OA DTH, IgG2a and cytokines in wild-type and IL-12p40KO mice suckled by infected (SIM) or non-infected (CONTROL) mothers. RESULTS SIM mice showed similar intensity and eosinophils in the DTH, which was abolished in IL-12p40KO and IL-12p40KO-SIM mice. In IL-12p40KO-SIM, IgG2a and TGF-β levels were higher, but IL-6 levels were lower. CONCLUSIONS Milk from schistosomotic mothers may evoke IgG2a without eliciting DTH in IL-12/IL-23 deficiencies, by changing TGF-β/IL-6 levels.

ABSTRACT The research evaluated the quality of care for patients with diabetes, cared for by the teams of the More Doctors Program. A quantitative, cross-sectional study was carried out in Goiana, Pernambuco, between November 2016 and August 2017. Structured interviews were used from the Primary Care Assessment Tool. 41 professionals from Family Health Teams linked to the More Doctors Program and 437 users with Diabetes Mellitus monitored by those teams were interviewed. The findings evidence that regularity in doctors’ attendance may have lead to good results regarding longitudinality (users: 7,1; professionals: 8,2) and use of services (users: 8,5). Quality regarding the information system component (users: 7,6; professionals: 9,2) indicates that data about patients were complete and available. Structural deficiencies in the municipality may have contributed to the low performance of accessibility (users: 3,6; professionals: 3,9). Poor results for family (4,6) and community (2,88) counselling, according to users, reinforce the need to strengthen these attributes, specific to the Family Health Strategy. Additionally, as it is a program, there is the possibility of its discontinuity, due to the context created by Constitutional Amendment nº 95, 2016, which may compromise access and continuity of care, especially for users with chronic diseases who frequently use the health care system.
