ABSTRACT Over-the-counter medications (OTC), also known as non-prescription drugs can be dispensed without a prescription. This study aimed to analyze the pharmacological profile, risk, and quality of evidence of OTC medications registered in Brazil. The databases of ANVISA and Micromedex synthesis were consulted. The indications for use were classified according to CIAP, the medications according to ATC, and the quality of evidence according to the GRADE method. A total of 188 OTC medications were identified, comprising 376 presentations. The groups related to the digestive tract and respiratory system had the highest number of drugs, each accounting for 19%. Overall, 61% of the drugs were classified as having high or moderate evidence, and 39% as low, very low, or lacking evidence. Despite the prevalence of higher-quality evidence, restrictions need to be highlighted, as approximately 55% of the drugs have a weak recommendation, 67% may not be used by children under the age of 6, 95% lack reliable safety information during pregnancy, and 87% lack clear information regarding use during lactation. Further research on the topic, supported self-care policies, and monitoring seem essential to better understand the risks and benefits associated with OTC medications, thus ensuring a safer and evidence-based clinical practice.

RESUMO Os Medicamentos Isentos de Prescrição (MIP) ou de venda livre podem ser fornecidos sem exigência de receita. Este estudo objetivou analisar o perfil farmacológico, risco e qualidade da evidência dos MIP registrados no Brasil. Foram consultadas as bases de dados da Anvisa e a base de síntese Micromedex. As indicações de uso foram classificadas segundo Ciap, os medicamentos segundo ATC e a qualidade da evidência segundo método Grade. Foram identificados 188 MIP, com 376 apresentações. Os grupos de trato alimentar e respiratório tiveram os maiores números de fármacos, com 19% cada. No geral, 61% dos fármacos foram classificados como evidência alta ou moderada e 39% como baixa, muito baixa ou sem evidência. Apesar da prevalência de maior qualidade de evidência, as restrições precisam ser evidenciadas, pois cerca de 55% dos fármacos possuem força de recomendação fraca, 67% não podem ser utilizados por crianças menores de 6 anos, 95% não possuem informações confiáveis de segurança na gestação e 87% não possuem informações de uso na lactação. Mais pesquisas sobre o tema, políticas de autocuidado apoiado e monitoramento parecem essenciais para melhor compreender os riscos e benefícios associados aos MIP, garantindo uma prática clínica mais segura e baseada em evidências.

ABSTRACT This article aims to analyze the process of mutual understanding from the perspective of Discursive Neurolinguistics. As a methodology, a case study was carried out on a child with a linguistic profile of verbal restriction, which concerns the dimension of utterances involving words and their morphology. Data interpretation was based on the Bakhtinian perspective, which addresses ‘understanding’ as an active-responsive process and meaning as emerging from the relationship between utterances. The results showed that the interlocutors’ common ground allowed the joint construction of meaning even in the face of verbal restrictions, and aspects such as nonverbal elements and the recognition of the child’s active-responsive role also favored mutual understanding. As a conclusion, the attention to different multimodal resources as legitimate modes of expression allows children with verbal restrictions to fulfill the role of “speakers” regardless of their modes of expression. RESUMO Este artigo tem por objetivo analisar o processo de intercompreensão sob a ótica da Neurolinguística Discursiva. Como metodologia, foi realizado um estudo de caso de uma criança com perfil linguístico de restrição verbal, que diz respeito à dimensão dos enunciados que envolve as palavras e a sua morfologia. A interpretação dos dados ocorreu com base na perspectiva bakhtiniana, que aborda a “compreensão” como um processo ativo responsivo e a significação como emergente na relação entre enunciados. ABSTRACT: A 20-year-old, sexually intact male Dutch Warmblood horse was presented with a 5-day history of difficulty moving and non-flexion of the right pelvic limb, followed by subcutaneous swelling and permanent lateral decubitus. Despite attempts at palliative care, the horse was euthanized after clinical worsening and lack of treatment response. The main gross finding was a soft, red-to-black, lobulated mass involving the right semitendinosus, semimembranosus, and biceps femoris muscles. Soft, red nodules were also seen in all pulmonary lobes and adrenal glands. Histology revealed neoplastic proliferation of malignant polygonal cells, occasionally arranged in irregular anastomosing vascular channels filled with erythrocytes. Neoplastic cells were immunoreactive for factor VIII-related antigen, confirming the blood vascular origin. A final diagnosis of epithelioid hemangiosarcoma was made. These findings reinforced the inclusion of hemangiosarcoma as a differential diagnosis of equine muscular lesions and highlighted the histological features of the epithelioid hemangiosarcoma subtype. RESUMO: Um cavalo macho não castrado, Sela Holandesa, de 20 anos de idade apresentou histórico de dificuldade de movimentação e não flexão do membro pélvico direito, seguido por inchaço subcutâneo e decúbito lateral permanente. Apesar das tentativas de cuidados paliativos, o cavalo foi eutanasiado após piora clínica e falta de resposta ao tratamento. O principal achado macroscópico foi uma massa macia, vermelha a preta e lobulada envolvendo os músculos semitendinoso, semimembranoso e bíceps femoral direito. Nódulos macios e vermelhos também foram observados nos lobos pulmonares e adrenais. A histologia revelou proliferação neoplásica de células poligonais malignas, ocasionalmente arranjadas em estruturas vasculares irregulares preenchidas por eritrócitos. Resumo Este artigo objetivou analisar recomendações para educação em saúde de gestantes e puérperas em tempos de pandemia de Covid-19. Trata-se de uma revisão integrativa que ocorreu no período setembro de 2021 a fevereiro de 2022, nas bases de dados MEDLINE via PubMed, Literatura Latino-Americana e do Caribe em Ciências da Saúde, Scientific Electronic Library Online e na Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde. Utilizou-se o software online Endnote Web para armazenar as referências obtidas na busca e retirar duplicações. A amostra final foi composta por 17 estudos. Após análise, os achados foram distribuídos em duas categorias: educação em saúde para assistência pré-natal de gestantes e educação em saúde para bem-estar físico e mental de gestantes e puérperas. O estudo mostrou que as recomendações para gestantes e puérperas, no cenário pandêmico, tem ênfase na educação em saúde associada a ferramentas tecnológicas durante todo o processo gravídico-puerperal, baseadas em informações e estratégias que favoreçam a promoção da saúde e a prevenção de agravos.

Sin embargo, debido a la diversidad de situaciones en las que las mujeres brasileñas vivencian el abortamiento, la complejidad del tema y sus modulaciones en diferentes contextos políticos y socioculturales, el tema continúa desafiando a la academia, el campo de la salud y los derechos reproductivos. En este artículo, presentamos aspectos metodológicos de un estudio cualitativo sobre los itinerarios de cuidados de la salud de mujeres en situación de abortamiento, componente de la encuesta Nacer en Brasil II, que tiene como objetivo discutir los efectos de las desigualdades de género, raza/etnia, clase social, generacionales, regionales y territoriales en esos recorridos. In recent decades, several academic studies on abortion have been produced in Brazil, with different designs, objectives, and methodologies. However, due to the diversity of situations in which Brazilian women experience abortion, the complexity of this topic, and its modulations in different political and sociocultural contexts, it still challenges academicians and the fields of health and reproductive rights. In this article, we present methodological aspects of a qualitative study on health care itineraries of women in situations of abortion, a component of the Birth in Brazil II survey, whose objective is to discuss the effects of gender; race/ethnicity; social class; generational, regional, and territorial inequalities on care itineraries. We discuss the study design development, the construction of the theoretical framework and specific analytical axes, the development of interview instrument, definition of participant selection criteria, strategies to contact participants and conduct the interviews, management of field work and materials produced, analytical procedures, and ethical issues. In total, 120 narrative interviews were conducted in order to include a diversity of women and obtain detailed results from the quantitative analysis under Birth in Brazil II survey. Abstract Background: Arboviral diseases are a group of infectious diseases caused by viruses transmitted by arthropods, mainly mosquitoes. These diseases, such as those caused by the dengue (DENV), Zika (ZIKV), chikungunya (CHIKV), and yellow fever (YFV) viruses, have a significant impact worldwide. In this context, entomological surveillance plays a crucial role in the control and prevention of arboviruses by providing essential information on the presence, distribution, and activity of vector mosquitoes. Based on entomological surveillance, transovarian transmission provides information regarding the maintenance and dissemination of arboviruses. The objective of this study was to detect these arboviruses in Goiânia, Goiás, and analyze the occurrence of transovarian transmission. Methods: Aedes aegypti eggs were collected from different regions of Goiânia and cultivated under controlled laboratory conditions until the emergence of adult mosquitoes. Adult females were grouped into pools containing their heads and thoraxes. These pools were subsequently evaluated using reverse-transcription quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) assay. Results: A total of 157 pools (N=1570) were analyzed, with two pools testing positive for CHIKV and one pool testing positive for ZIKV, indicating that the offspring resulting from transovarian transmission are potentially infectious. Conclusions: In summary, the demonstration of the vertical transmission mechanisms of CHIKV and ZIKV in A. aegypti serves as an alert to health authorities, as these diseases are still underreported, and their primary urban vector has likely acquired this capacity, contributing to the dissemination of these infections. Abstract Repositioning guides are commonly employed in clinical studies to ensure consistent tooth color measurements. Yet, their influence on measured color remains uncertain. Objective This study evaluated the impact of repositioning guides’ color and usage on tooth color measurement using a clinical spectrophotometer. Methodology In total, 18 volunteers participated in this study, in which the color of their upper left central incisor and upper left canine was measured with or without repositioning guides (control). The guides were made from pink, blue, or translucent silicone, as well as an acetate-based bleaching tray. Tooth color was measured in triplicates using a clinical spectrophotometer based on the CIELAB system. The standard deviations of these readings were used to estimate reproducibility, and color differences (ΔE00) between the measurements with guides and the control were calculated. Results Repositioning guides had a minimal effect on L* values and no effect on b* values. The use of pink silicone increased a* values, whereas blue or translucent silicone reduced them. Irrespective of the evaluated tooth, the lowest ΔE00 values were observed for the translucent silicone and bleaching tray. The usage of guides only affected data variability for the L* color coordinate. Abstract Roadkill is one of the most direct impacts on fauna, leading to numerous direct and indirect impacts. Road-killed animals could serve as a resource for research and teaching purposes, but first, they need to have their tissues preserved by some technique. Plastination is one of the most modern techniques for the conservation of biological tissues, its principle is the replacement of body fluids by a curable polymer, resulting in a non-toxic, odorless, and manipulable material. So the main aim of this work was to compose a collection of plastinated roadkill victims from the Biological Reserve Sooretama region, adapting the standard protocol to the different taxa worked here (Avialae, Reptilia, Amphibia, and Mammalia). For this, 42 animals were used, previously frozen and stored in the Sooretama Biological Reserve and Vale Natural Reserve until they were sent for processing. Upon arriving at the Plastination laboratory at the Federal University of Espírito Santo, the animals underwent the 4 stages of plastination: fixation, dehydration, forced impregnation, and chemical cure; some adaptations were made to improve the final specimens. The results proved that the plastination of these animals is extremely viable in generating satisfactory results. Given the results obtained, it becomes clear how plastination can become an alternative to implement in the composition of biological collections using roadkill animals. RESUMEN Terminada la fase aguda de la COVID-19, muchos pacientes presentan síntomas persistentes o desarrollan secuelas, lo que requiere servicios de rehabilitación fisioterapéutica. Ante esto, el objetivo de este estudio fue identificar los conocimientos y la experiencia de los fisioterapeutas respecto a la evaluación y el tratamiento de los pacientes post-COVID-19. Este estudio observacional transversal se llevó a cabo con 73 profesionales, mediante un cuestionario en línea sobre formación académica, áreas de actuación, conocimientos sobre la COVID-19 y experiencia con los recursos de evaluación y tratamiento en la rehabilitación post-COVID-19, además de las barreras para la atención de estos pacientes en el ámbito ambulatorio. Aunque la mayoría de los fisioterapeutas tenían algún conocimiento sobre el síndrome post-COVID-19, solamente el 44% de ellos se sentían suficientemente informados sobre la rehabilitación post-COVID-19. Se observa una discrepancia entre el grado de importancia y experiencia y la frecuencia de uso de los recursos de evaluación, especialmente el uso de herramientas de evaluación específicas para la fuerza muscular esquelética, la movilidad y la función respiratoria, además de escalas y cuestionarios para evaluar la discapacidad, la calidad de vida y la calidad del sueño. ABSTRACT After the acute phase of COVID-19, many patients have persistent symptoms or develop sequelae, which leads them to seek physiotherapy rehabilitation services. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the knowledge and experience of physiotherapists on the assessment and treatment of post-COVID-19 patients. The cross-sectional observational study was carried out with 73 physiotherapists using an online questionnaire about academic background, areas of expertise, knowledge about COVID-19, and knowledge and experience of assessment and treatment resources in post-COVID-19 rehabilitation, in addition to barriers to the care of these patients in the ambulatory care. Sendo assim, o objetivo deste estudo foi investigar o conhecimento e a experiência de fisioterapeutas sobre a avaliação e tratamento de pacientes pós-COVID-19. O estudo observacional transversal foi realizado com 73 profissionais, por meio de um questionário online sobre formação acadêmica, áreas de atuação, conhecimento sobre a COVID-19 e experiência sobre recursos de avaliação e tratamento na reabilitação pós-COVID-19, além de barreiras para o atendimento desses pacientes no ambiente ambulatorial. A maioria dos fisioterapeutas já tinham ouvido falar da síndrome pós-COVID-19, no entanto, apenas 44% se sentiam suficientemente informados sobre a reabilitação pós-COVID-19. Abstract In this work, moringa leaf extract was encapsulated in gum arabic by lyophilisation, using different extract:gum arabic ratios (1:10, 1:6 and 1:4). The physicochemical characteristics, total phenolic content and antioxidant potential of the microcapsules were evaluated at time 0 and after 10 months of storage at 25 °C. The moisture content, hygroscopicity and solubility of the microcapsules decreased, and the water activity increased after storage. The total phenolic content increased from 28 to 36%, with the highest increase in the microcapsule formulation with less gum arabic. The antioxidant activity also increased significantly, to values between 140 and 307%, with activity being higher in the 1:4 (extract: gum arabic) ratio microcapsules. Abstract In reproductive technologies, uncovering the molecular aspects of oocyte and embryo competence under different conditions is crucial for refining protocols and enhancing efficiency. RNA-seq generates high-throughput data and provides transcriptomes that can undergo additional computational analyses. This study presented the transcriptomic profiles of in vitro matured oocytes and blastocysts produced in vitro from buffalo crossbred (Bubalus bubalis), coupled with gene co-expression and module preservation analysis. Cumulus Oophorus Complexes, obtained from slaughterhouse-derived ovaries, were subjected to in vitro maturation to yield metaphase II oocytes (616) or followed in vitro fertilization and culture to yield blastocysts for sequencing (526). Oocyte maturation (72%, ±3.34 sd) and embryo development (21.3%, ±4.18 sd) rates were obtained from three in vitro embryo production routines following standard protocols. Sequencing of 410 metaphase II oocytes and 70 hatched blastocysts (grade 1 and 2) identified a total of 13,976 genes, with 62% being ubiquitously expressed (8,649). ABSTRACT Backgrounds: Fortunately, much has been studied about COVID-19 in patients with inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD). Evidence suggests that these patients do not appear to be at increased risk of severe COVID-19. However, there are still some uncertainties regarding the clinical manifestations of COVID-19 in patients with immune-mediated diseases. Objective: This study aimed to describe the main symptoms of COVID-19 and their frequency in IBD patients and evaluate the impact of the IBD therapeutic drugs on clinical presentation of COVID-19 and to determine factors associated with COVID-19 in this population. Methods: Adult patients with IBD from three tertiary-care public, teaching hospitals in Ceará, Northeastern Brazil, were evaluated during one scheduled appointment from March to December 2020. Patients with possible or confirmed COVID-19 were compared with patients without COVID-19. Furthermore, incidences of each symptom were evaluated based on the use of IBD therapeutic drugs. Results: A total of 515 patients with IBD were included in the study: 234 with CD, and 281 with UC. Of these, 174 patients (34%) had possible/confirmed COVID-19 of whom 156 (90%) were symptomatic. Main symptoms were fever (65%) and headache (65%); gastrointestinal symptoms occurred in one third of patients and were higher than COVID-19 in general population. The factors associated with having COVID-19 were female gender (OR 1.71, 95%CI: 1.17-2.50); contact at home (OR 5.07, 95%CI: 3.31-7.78) and outside the home (OR 3.14, 95%CI: 2.10-4.71) with a case of COVID-19; work outside of the home (OR 1.87, 95%CI: 1.26-2.78); family history of COVID-19 (OR 2.29, 95%CI 1.58-3.33) use of salicylate (OR 1.71, 95%CI: 1.17-4.28); and asthma (OR 7.10, 95%CI: 1.46-34.57). RESUMO Contexto: Felizmente, muito se tem estudado sobre a COVID-19 em pacientes com doenças inflamatórias intestinais (DII). As evidências sugerem que esses pacientes não parecem ter risco aumentado de COVID-19 grave. Mas ainda se tem algumas incertezas com relação às manifestações clínicas da COVID-19 em portadores de doenças imunomediadas. Objetivo: Este estudo teve como objetivo descrever os principais sintomas da COVID-19 e sua frequência em pacientes com DII e avaliar o impacto dos medicamentos utilizados no tratamento das DII na apresentação clínica da COVID-19. Métodos: Pacientes adultos com DII de três hospitais públicos terciários de ensino do Ceará, Nordeste do Brasil, foram avaliados em consulta ambulatorial no período de março a dezembro de 2020. Pacientes com COVID-19 possível ou confirmada foram comparados com pacientes sem COVID-19. Além disso, as incidências de cada sintoma foram avaliadas com base no uso de medicamentos utilizados para tratamento da DII. Resultados: Foram incluídos no estudo 515 pacientes com DII: 234 com DC e 281 com RCU. Destes, 174 pacientes (34%) tinham COVID-19 possível/confirmado, dos quais 156 (90%) eram sintomáticos. Os principais sintomas foram febre (65%) e dor de cabeça (65%); sintomas gastrointestinais ocorreram em um terço dos pacientes, sendo mais frequentes do que na população geral com COVID-19.
