In last decades, technical-scientific investigations into cultural heritage assets have increasingly become part of analysis methodologies accessible to professionals from different areas for a broad understanding of the complex material and historical nature of objects. In this interdisciplinary word, the painting “Costureiras” by Tarsila do Amaral (1886-1973), from 1950, was studied by ultraviolet-induced visible luminescence (UVL), infrared image (IR) and macro X-ray fluorescence scanning (MA-XRF) techniques. UVL and MA-XRF images enabled the exploration of the conservation status of the artwork, the creative process of the artist, and areas featuring materials distinct from the original painting. By combining the results of IR and MA-XRF images, it was confirmed that changes occurred in the creative process during the composition of the artwork. MA-XRF images further allowed the inference of the primary pigments employed by the artist, revealing that, during canvas priming, Tarsila do Amaral utilized pigments based on lead and zinc. decades technicalscientific technical scientific objects word Costureiras “Costureiras 18861973, 18861973 1886 1973 , (1886-1973) 1950 ultravioletinduced ultraviolet induced UVL, (UVL) (IR Xray X ray MAXRF MA XRF (MA-XRF techniques artwork artist priming zinc 1886197 188 197 (1886-1973 195 (UVL 188619 18 19 (1886-197 18861 1 (1886-19 (1886-1 (1886- (1886 (188 (18 (1 (

A cultivar McLaren apresentou o melhor desempenho fisiológico e bioquímico e a ‘Goldex’ o melhor rendimento. Folicist® promove adaptações fisiológicas aos estresses sem prejudicar a atividade fotossintética. Os bioestimulantes aumentaram a produtividade e o número de frutos por planta e promoveram adaptações fisiológicas às condições semiáridas. plantas Cucumis L. ABSTRACT Regions with semi-arid climates have environmental conditions that result in abiotic stress to plants. The largest melon (Cucumis melo L.) production area in Brazil, the state of Rio Grande do Norte, has these climatic characteristics. Use of biostimulants in these production systems can mitigate effects of abiotic stress and increase yield and fruit quality. The objective in this study was to evaluate the physiological and production characteristics of melon, under the application of biostimulants. The biostimulants Acadian®, Folicist® and Nov@® were applied and compared to the control treatment (no biostimulants), in ‘Goldex’ and ‘McLaren’ melons. Nov@® led to higher CO2 assimilation, transpiration and stomatal conductance, as well as ascorbate peroxidase, in ‘Goldex’ and ‘McLaren’. Greater catalase was obtained with the application of Nov@®, while the use of Folicist® resulted in higher malondialdehyde content. The cultivar ‘McLaren’ exhibited the best physiological and biochemical performance, and ‘Goldex’ the best yield. Folicist® promotes physiological adaptations to stress without impairing photosynthetic activity. The biostimulants increased yield and number of fruits per plant and promoted physiological adaptations to semi-arid conditions. semiarid semi arid plants Cucumis L. Abstract Objective: To investigate the effect of a single oral dose of 200,000 IU of vitamin D3 on antiphospholipid antibodies in hospitalized patients with moderate to severe COVID-19. Methods: This is a post-hoc, exploratory analysis from a double-blind, placebo-controlled, randomized clinical trial performed in two centers in São Paulo, Brazil. Hospitalized patients with COVID-19 were randomly assigned to receive either vitamin D3 (n = 97) or placebo (n = 97). In this post-hoc analysis, the endpoints were titers and frequency of anti–β2-Glycoprotein-I (aβ2-GP) and Anticardiolipin (aCL) antibodies [Immunoglobulin G, M and A (IgG, IgM and IgA)]. Results: Overall mean (SD) age was 55.3 (13.9) years, Body Mass Index (BMI) was 32.2 (7.1 kg/m²), and 106 participants (54.6 %) were male. There was a significant group by time interaction (p = 0.046) for frequency of aCL IgG, with increased values from baseline to discharge in the placebo group [n (%), from 13 (13.4) to 25 (25.8)] compared to the vitamin D3 [from 25 (25.8) to 29 (29.9)]. However, the frequency of aCL IgG did not change between the groups on discharge. No significant differences between vitamin D3 and placebo groups were found for any other autoantibodies. Conclusion: These findings do not support the use of a single oral dose of 200,000 IU of vitamin D3 to modulate autoantibodies in hospitalized patients with moderate to severe COVID-19. ABSTRACT Computer vision systems can be an alternative to traditional methods of analyzing the quality of forage crops, allowing the instantaneous, non-destructive monitoring of the crop, with cost reduction. This study aimed to evaluate the quality parameters of Tifton 85 (Cynodon spp.) using digital images, relating spectral indices to the quality parameters of this forage. In the experimental area, four levels of nitrogen fertilization were applied and the analyses were made at different times after the standardization cut (14, 28, 42, and 56 days). The quality parameters evaluated were mineral matter, crude protein, and neutral detergent fiber. From images obtained in the visible (RGB) and near-infrared (RGNIR) spectral regions, spectral indices were generated. Principal component analysis was applied to summarize the information obtained by spectral indices into a single principal component (PCI). PCI associated with spectral indices was related to forage quality parameters for each cutting time using simple quadratic regression models. The relationships between mineral matter and spectral indices were variable over time. Crude protein and neutral detergent fiber showed the highest relationships with the spectral indices obtained by RGNIR images already at the initial times. Thus, although the RGB images have shown satisfactory results to obtain information about the quality of Tifton 85, the NIR band tends to increase the reliability of the relationships at early times. crops instantaneous nondestructive non destructive crop reduction 8 Cynodon spp. spp area 14, 14 (14 28 42 5 days. days . days) (RGB nearinfrared near infrared (RGNIR regions generated PCI. A new phenylpropanoid derivative, named euploic acid (1), was isolated from Euploca procumbens (Mill.) Diane & Hilger, Boraginaceae, along with lithospermic acid B (2), lithospermic acid (3), 9’’-methyl lithospermate (4), and luteolin-7-O-glucoside (5). Compound structures were determined by mass spectrometry (MS), nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) analysis and comparison with published data. Absolute configuration of 1 was established via electronic circular dichroism (ECD). Anti-inflammatory potential of euploic acid (1) was assessed by measuring its inhibition of cytokine and nitric oxide production in stimulated J774 macrophages. Compound 1 significantly reduced pro-inflammatory mediator production and release by stimulated macrophages at non-cytotoxic concentrations, comparable to the efficacy of dexamethasone. Our findings demonstrate the potential of euploic acid (1) as an effective anti-inflammatory agent. This study contributes to the structural elucidation of a new phenylpropanoid derivative and highlights its promising anti-inflammatory activity in the treatment of inflammatory disorders. 1, , Mill. The process of photosynthesis involves the absorption of light energy by photosynthetic pigments found in the thylakoid membrane of chloroplasts in order to produce chemical energy. In the presence of photosynthetic inhibitors, plant development is affected mainly by the reduction of the electron chain, which leads to growth inhibition. In this context, chlorophyll a (Chl a) fluorescence is an important technique used to identify the effects of inhibitors on the photosynthetic apparatus employing the JIP-test, which correlates the Chl a fluorescence transient to biophysical parameters, providing valuable information about the efficiency of photosystems I and II. Natural products have been highlighted as photosynthesis inhibitors due to the continued use of synthetic herbicides, which leads to the development of invasive plants resistant to these pesticides, in addition to the toxicity caused to humans and the environment. Thus, this review describes the main applications of extracts and isolated secondary metabolites obtained from plants and microorganisms in the investigation of electron transport inhibition on photosystem II. chain context JIPtest, JIPtest JIP test, test JIP-test parameters II herbicides pesticides environment Thus

ABSTRACT The limited temporal completeness and taxonomic accuracy of species lists, made available in a traditional manner in scientific publications, has always represented a problem. These lists are invariably limited to a few taxonomic groups and do not represent up-to-date knowledge of all species and classifications. In this context, the Brazilian megadiverse fauna is no exception, and the Catálogo Taxonômico da Fauna do Brasil (CTFB) (http://fauna.jbrj.gov.br/), made public in 2015, represents a database on biodiversity anchored on a list of valid and expertly recognized scientific names of animals in Brazil. The CTFB is updated in near real time by a team of more than 800 specialists. By January 1, 2024, the CTFB compiled 133,691 nominal species, with 125,138 that were considered valid. Most of the valid species were arthropods (82.3%, with more than 102,000 species) and chordates (7.69%, with over 11,000 species). These taxa were followed by a cluster composed of Mollusca (3,567 species), Platyhelminthes (2,292 species), Annelida (1,833 species), and Nematoda (1,447 species). All remaining groups had less than 1,000 species reported in Brazil, with Cnidaria (831 species), Porifera (628 species), Rotifera (606 species), and Bryozoa (520 species) representing those with more than 500 species. Analysis of the CTFB database can facilitate and direct efforts towards the discovery of new species in Brazil, but it is also fundamental in providing the best available list of valid nominal species to users, including those in science, health, conservation efforts, and any initiative involving animals. The importance of the CTFB is evidenced by the elevated number of citations in the scientific literature in diverse areas of biology, law, anthropology, education, forensic science, and veterinary science, among others. publications problem uptodate up date classifications context exception (CTFB http//fauna.jbrj.gov.br/, httpfaunajbrjgovbr http //fauna.jbrj.gov.br/ , jbrj gov br (http://fauna.jbrj.gov.br/) 2015 Brazil 80 specialists 1 2024 133691 133 691 133,69 125138 125 138 125,13 82.3%, 823 82 3 (82.3% 102000 102 000 102,00 7.69%, 769 7 69 (7.69% 11000 11 11,00 . 3,567 3567 567 (3,56 2,292 2292 2 292 (2,29 1,833 1833 833 (1,83 1,447 1447 447 (1,44 1000 1,00 831 (83 628 (62 606 (60 520 (52 50 users science health biology law anthropology education others http//fauna.jbrj.gov.br/ faunajbrjgovbr //fauna.jbrj.gov.br (http://fauna.jbrj.gov.br/ 201 8 202 13369 13 133,6 12513 12 125,1 82.3% (82.3 10200 10 00 102,0 7.69% 76 6 (7.69 1100 11,0 3,56 356 56 (3,5 2,29 229 29 (2,2 1,83 183 83 (1,8 1,44 144 44 (1,4 100 1,0 (8 62 (6 60 52 (5 5 http//fauna.jbrj.gov.br (http://fauna.jbrj.gov.br 20 1336 133, 1251 125, 82.3 (82. 1020 0 102, 7.69 (7.6 110 11, 3,5 35 (3, 2,2 22 (2, 1,8 18 (1, 1,4 14 4 ( 82. Abstract The iAtlantic Project has established an international collaborative strategy to improve mapping and characterization of deep and open ocean ecosystems in understudied regions of the Atlantic and evaluate their health. In December 2022, the first iAtlantic expedition in the South Atlantic set off to map and explore seafloor ecosystems in the Santos Basin slope (200-1,000 m depths) in collaboration with the Petrobras ‘Santos Basin - Regional Characterization Project.’ The 17-day ‘iAtlantic_BR10-Petrobras’ cruise was conducted on board the research vessel NPqHOc Vital de Oliveira (Brazilian Navy) and performed (a) water column structure characterization, (b) seafloor morphology mapping, (c) description of benthic habitats and communities by seafloor imagery and biological/ geological sampling, and (d) ex-situ experiments to assess the functioning of sedimentary ecosystems and their responses to climate-related environmental changes. This study describes the rationale behind the iAtlantic_BR10-Petrobras cruise science plan, reports its sampling strategy and methods, and summarizes its collected data and preliminary results. health 2022 2001,000 2001000 200 1,000 1 000 (200-1,00 depths Project. 17day day 17 ‘iAtlantic_BR10Petrobras iAtlanticBR10Petrobras iAtlanticBRPetrobras ‘iAtlantic_BR10 BR10 BR ‘iAtlantic_BR10-Petrobras Brazilian Navy a (a b (b c (c biological d (d exsitu ex situ climaterelated climate related changes iAtlantic_BR10Petrobras iAtlantic_BR10 plan methods results 202 2001 2001,00 200100 20 1000 1,00 00 (200-1,0 BR10Petrobras iAtlanticBR iAtlanticBR10 ‘iAtlantic_BR1 BR1 iAtlantic_BR1 2001,0 20010 2 100 1,0 0 (200-1, BRPetrobras iAtlanticBR1 ‘iAtlantic_BR iAtlantic_BR 2001, 10 1, (200-1 (200- (200 (20 (2 (

This work compares the anticorrosive properties of DC electrodeposited CuCoNi, CuCo, and CuNi alloy coatings in a NaCl 0.5 mol L-1 solution. The results showed that j and the bath composition influenced the chemical, morphological, and electrochemical characteristics of the alloy coatings. Among all the studied coatings, the CuCo, CuNi, and CuCoNi ones produced at j = 10 A m-2, j = 60 A m-2, and j = 25 A m-2, respectively, showed the best anticorrosive performances in the saline medium, exhibiting charge transfer resistances (Rtc) higher than 2000 Ω cm2 and an electrical double layer capacitances (Cdl) lower than 8 X10-4 F cm-2. These results agree with the compact morphologies and smaller grain sizes presented by these coatings. Therefore, the anticorrosive properties of the coatings cannot be related only to the less noble metal(s) contents in the alloy but also to their morphologies. CuCo 05 0 5 0. Abstract The impact of the Antarctic Ozone Hole Influence over Southern Brazil in October 2015 was analyzed using daily mean data of the Total Column Ozone (TCO), Ultraviolet Index (UVI) and Radiative Cloud Fraction (RCF) from the Ozone Monitoring Instrument satellite instrument. Vertical profiles and fields of ozone content and Potential Vorticity available from the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecast reanalysis, air masses backward trajectories from the HYbrid Single-Particle Lagrangian Integrated Trajectory model and channel 3 water vapor images from the Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite GOES-13 were also analyzed. The five identified events showed an -7.4±2.3% average TCO reduction, leading to an +16.6±54.6% UVI increase even with a predominance of partly cloudy days. Other impacts were observed in the ozone profiles, where the most significant anomalies occurred from 650 K reaching 1.2 ppmv at the 850 K level. In the ozone fields at 700 K, the presence of a polar origin tongue was observed causing negatives anomalies between -0.2 and 0.4 ppmv in a transient system format forced with eastward-traveling Rossby waves passing through the Southern of Brazil and Uruguay. 201 TCO, , (TCO) (UVI RCF (RCF instrument MediumRange Medium Range reanalysis SingleParticle Single Particle GOES13 GOES 13 GOES-1 7.4±2.3% 7423 7 4 2 -7.4±2.3 reduction 166546 16 6 54 +16.6±54.6 days 65 12 1 1. 85 level 70 0.2 02 0 -0. 04 0. eastwardtraveling eastward traveling Uruguay 20 (TCO GOES1 GOES- 7.4±2.3 742 -7.4±2. 16654 5 +16.6±54. 8 -0 7.4±2. 74 -7.4±2 1665 +16.6±54 - 7.4±2 -7.4± 166 +16.6±5 7.4± -7.4 +16.6± 7.4 -7. +16.6 7. -7 +16. +16 +1 +

Abstract This work aimed to associate sexual behavior with serum testosterone and the height of sensitive epithelium of vomeronasal organ (VNO) of Nellore bulls raised extensively and subjected to the VNO blocking during pre-puberty. Thirty-four bulls were divided into three groups. G1 (control group; n = 11): animals were kept intact; G2 (n = 10): animals had their incisive ducts bilaterally cauterized; G3 (n = 13): animals were bilaterally orchy-epiectomized. Five libido tests and blood sampling were performed in three months intervals from pre-puberty until sexual maturity. VNO were collected for histological evaluations by sacrificing the bulls weighting 480 kg. The experiment was conducted in a complete randomized design. No differences in libido among groups were observed in the first three tests. Attempt to mount, complete mount and the libido score increased at the fourth libido test only for the G1. Scenting and licking increased while the Flehmen reflex (FR) decreased at the fifth libido test for G2 and G3. Positive association between the FR and VNO sensitive epithelium height in G2 was observed. The olfactory stimuli entrance in the VNO is influenced by the Flehmen reflex, and that such organ plays a key role in the libido of Nellore bulls.

Objectives: Past suicide attempt (SA) is one of the most important risk factors for suicide death. An ideation-to-action framework posits that impulsivity, potentially traumatic events, and mental disorders also play a role in increasing suicide risk. This study aimed to assess the association between trait impulsivity, lifetime exposure to trauma, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) with SA in a sample of Brazilian college students. Methods: A total of 2,137 participants filled self-reported questionnaires consisting of a sociodemographic and clinical questionnaire, Trauma History Questionnaire, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder Checklist – Civilian version, and Barratt Impulsiveness Scale. Results: Our findings suggest that trait impulsivity may be interpreted as exerting a distal effect on SA, even in the presence of other variables – such as trauma history, psychological neglect, and PTSD – which also increase the odds of SA. High and medium levels of impulsivity, history of trauma, and PTSD increased the likelihood of SA. Conclusions: Intervention strategies to prevent SA may target trait impulsivity and exposure to traumatic experiences.
