ABSTRACT Chia (Salvia hispanica L.) seeds have attracted great economic interest for their high levels of linoleic and α-linolenic acids. In Brazil, there is a lack of studies on the agronomic characteristics and physiological quality of chia, necessitating research on germination processes and strategies to enhance yield under field conditions. There are no studies assessing the development of seeds with different coat colors in the presence of fungicides. This study aimed to assess the physiological quality of chia seeds as a function of coat color and fungicide treatment. The experiment followed a completely randomized design with a 2 × 2 factorial arrangement and six replications. For this, seeds were divided into two groups according to coat color (black and white) and subjected or not to treatment with carboxin + thiram. Germination speed index, germination rate, and shoot length were evaluated in plants sown at 0, 90, and 180 days after seed treatment. Germination rate and speed index differed significantly between coat colors, with white seeds having higher vigor than black seeds. Shoot length, however, differed only for seeds sown on the day of treatment, indicating that treated seeds were more vigorous. Salvia L. ABSTRACT Mapping resistant populations makes it possible to identify the evolution and dispersal of resistance cases, providing important information for control-related decision making. This study aimed to identify and map herbicide-resistant sourgrass (Digitaria insularis) populations in Brazilian regions. The results showed no glufosinate resistance, with 485 samples (96.6%) classified as putative resistant to glyphosate, while nine (1.8%) and five (1%) were considered putative resistant to haloxyfop and clethodim, respectively. Two samples were deemed putative resistant to three herbicides (glyphosate, haloxyfop, and clethodim). One of the samples characterized as a control failure for all three herbicides was used on the dose-response curve. This biotype was identified as glyphosate-resistant, with low-level resistance to clethodim and haloxyfop. Based on C50, resistance factors of 10.96, 3.26, and 3.15 were identified for glyphosate, clethodim, and haloxyfop, respectively. Mapping sourgrass resistance is vital to understand and ensure the early identification and quantification of the frequency of these plants. cases controlrelated related making herbicideresistant herbicide Digitaria insularis regions 48 96.6% 966 96 6 (96.6% glyphosate 1.8% 18 1 8 (1.8% 1% (1% respectively (glyphosate clethodim. . clethodim) doseresponse dose response curve glyphosateresistant, glyphosateresistant resistant, glyphosate-resistant lowlevel low level C50 C 1096 10 10.96 326 3 26 3.26 315 15 3.1 plants 4 96.6 9 (96.6 1.8 (1.8 (1 C5 109 10.9 32 2 3.2 31 3. 96.
ABSTRACT The canonical correlation is used to correlate groups of distinct variables. The objective of this study was to use canonical correlation analysis to evaluate the interaction between water quality attributes clogging-causing and the hydraulic performance of non-pressure compensating drippers operating with dilutions of aquaculture effluent in well water. The experiment was in a completely randomized design in a split-split-plot scheme with three replicates, with five dilutions in the plots (Dilution 1: 100% aquaculture effluent; Dilution 2: 75% aquaculture effluent + 25% well water; Dilution 3: 50% aquaculture effluent + 50% well water; Dilution 4: 25% aquaculture effluent + 75% well water; and Dilution 5: 100% well water), three emitters in the sub-plots (ST (1.6 L h-1), SL (1.6 L h-1) and NJ (1.7 L h-1)), and three operating times in the sub-subplots (0, 80 and 160 hours, in which 0 hours operating time means the start of evaluations). The statistical analyses performed were correlation matrix and canonical analysis. The canonical correlation analysis indicated that when the concentrations of attributes increase, the hydraulic performance of the drippers decreases. The interaction of this group of attributes indicates that the clogging of drippers operating with the five dilutions of aquaculture effluent in well water occurs by the combined action of physical, chemical, and biological agents. The ST dripper was the least sensitive to the group of quality attributes of the dilutions, whereas the most sensitive was the SL dripper. variables cloggingcausing causing nonpressure non pressure splitsplitplot split plot replicates 1 100 2 75 25 3 50 4 5 water, , water) subplots sub 1.6 16 6 (1. h1, h1 h h-1 1.7 17 7 h-1)) subsubplots 0, (0 8 evaluations. evaluations . evaluations) increase decreases physical chemical agents 10 1. Solid and liquid fractions of hydrothermally pretreated sugarcane bagasse (SCB) were simultaneously used as substrate of a novel continuous compartmentalized reactor. The effect of four (56, 42, 28, and 14 h) hydraulic retention time (HRT) and three (0.5, 3.0, and 9.0 g L-1) chemical oxygen demand (COD) levels were evaluated on hydrogen (H2) and organic acids production. Higher H2 production and yield (686 mL and 1.63 mol mol-1 carbohydrate, respectively) were obtained under an HRT of 28 h, probably due to the Clostridium and Thermoanaerobacterium metabolisms, which accounted for almost 60% of the microbial relative abundance. Under lower and higher HRT (14 and 56 h, respectively) lactic acid prevailed without hydrogen production. Other value-added chemicals such as citric, valeric and caproic acids were also obtained according to the HRT. From the functional point of view, enzymes from the glycoside hydrolases group (GHs) potentially performed important roles in the lignocellulosic biomass bioconversion. Abstract: This study aimed to develop mathematical models for estimating leaf area in three grapevine cultivars (‘Chardonnay’, ‘Marselan’, and ‘Pinot Noir’) grown with plastic overhead cover in Santa Catarina, Brazil. Linear measurements of midvein length, left and right secondary veins, and the sum of secondary veins were taken from 200 leaves per variety during the 2020/21 and 2021/22 cycles. Linear regression models were developed using leaf area and midvein length, midvein length squared, sum of secondary veins, and sum of secondary veins squared as predictors. Model performance was evaluated based on Pearson correlation coefficient, root mean square error, bias, and efficiency. The developed models accurately estimate leaf area for the tested grapevine cultivars under plastic cover conditions, with the best-performing model using the sum of secondary veins squared as a predictor variable. These models can be useful for researchers and grapevine growers for estimating leaf area and improving plant growth management. A novel electroanalytical approach is presented for the determination of ronidazole in environmental and food matrices by applying a cathodically pretreated boron-doped diamond electrode and the square-wave adsorptive cathodic stripping voltammetry technique. From the studies of cyclic voltammetry to investigate the electroactivity of the ronidazole molecule, the occurrence of an irreversible cathodic process was verifed, which was more effciently detected using the cathodically pretreated boron-doped diamond electrode compared to the anodically pretreated electrode. Still on the electrochemical response of ronidazole, the effects of pH and scan rate were studied and, its apparent diffusion coeffcient was determined by chronoamperometry (8.20 × 10-6cm2s-1). Under optimal experimental conditions, the analytical curve obtained for ronidazole was linear in two concentration ranges (12.70 to 63.40 µmol L-1 and 76.04 to 126.2 µmol L-1), with a limit of detection of 2.55 µmol L-1. For intra- and inter-day repeatabilities, relative standard deviations of only 2.7 and 3.5% were verifed, which demonstrated the stable analytical response of the electrode. Recovery percentages ranging from 96 to 100% were achieved in the analysis of natural water and whole milk samples. Therefore, the proposed electroanalytical method shows satisfactory analytical performance towards ronidazole determination in varied matrice samples. borondoped boron doped squarewave square wave technique molecule verifed 8.20 820 8 20 (8.2 106cm2s1. 106cm2s1 cms 10 6cm2s 1 . cm s 10-6cm2s-1) conditions 12.70 1270 12 70 (12.7 6340 63 40 63.4 L1 L L- 7604 76 04 76.0 1262 126 2 126. Todas as linhagens apresentaram genes associados à resistência: alr, ddl, gdpD, kasA, murA, lsa(E), msr(D), mef(A), gidB e LiaF. ABSTRACT: The current study characterizes the genetic distribution of virulence and antimicrobial resistance of Streptococcus lutetiensis and Streptococcus equinus isolated from cows with clinical mastitis using whole genome sequencing (WGS). Although they are not the protagonist species within the genus Streptococcus, recent studies have isolated these species associated with bovine mastitis. In addition, these species are reported and isolated from humans and other animals. A total of four strains of S. lutetiensis and one of S. equinus were isolated from five cows with identified cases of clinical mastitis at a dairy farm near Ithaca, New York. Nineteen genes associated with antimicrobial resistance and 20 genes associated with virulence were identified in the analyzed strains. All strains presented genes associated with resistance: alr, ddl, gdpD, kasA, murA, lsa(E), msr(D), mef(A), gidB, and LiaF. Resistance genes associated with several different classes of antibiotics have also been reported. Sixteen virulence-associated genes were identified in all strains. Based on our findings, we conclude that the studied species have the potential to cause mastitis in cattle, and further studies are important to elucidate their role. ABSTRACT WGS. WGS . ABSTRACT One of the tools used to investigate the influence of environmental contaminants and other stresses on the development of organisms is the analysis of morphometric traits used to detect changes in growth and size patterns. To evaluate the effects of the heavy metal lead (Pb) present in experimentally contaminated soil on the morphometric traits of the aphid Brevicoryne brassicae (L.) reared on cultivated Brassica oleracea L. (var. acephala), we analyzed three different metrics: morphometry, allometry, and fluctuating asymmetry (FA). Additionally, we aimed to assess the effectiveness of these analyses in detecting environmental stress. We cultivated kale plants in soil contaminated with the maximum allowable limit of Pb for local soils in Brazil, and the colonization of plants by aphids occurred naturally under field conditions. After collection, we photographed and measured the antennae, tibiae, and total body length of aphids from the control and contaminated treatments. We observed no significant differences in the allometry and morphometric analysis, and the presence of the contaminant did not result in any observed FA. The study demonstrated that the morphometric trait analyses employed were not effective in detecting environmental stress resulting from field exposure of aphids to Pb in soil, since these insects suffered a reduction in their population density in the presence of Pb, as indicated in our previous findings. This result diverges from those found in studies conducted under laboratory conditions. We discussed mechanisms of metal accumulation, detoxification in aphids, and population aspects in natural conditions. patterns (Pb L (L. var. var (var acephala, acephala , acephala) metrics morphometry FA . ABSTRACT The limited temporal completeness and taxonomic accuracy of species lists, made available in a traditional manner in scientific publications, has always represented a problem. These lists are invariably limited to a few taxonomic groups and do not represent up-to-date knowledge of all species and classifications. In this context, the Brazilian megadiverse fauna is no exception, and the Catálogo Taxonômico da Fauna do Brasil (CTFB) (http://fauna.jbrj.gov.br/), made public in 2015, represents a database on biodiversity anchored on a list of valid and expertly recognized scientific names of animals in Brazil. The CTFB is updated in near real time by a team of more than 800 specialists. By January 1, 2024, the CTFB compiled 133,691 nominal species, with 125,138 that were considered valid. Most of the valid species were arthropods (82.3%, with more than 102,000 species) and chordates (7.69%, with over 11,000 species). These taxa were followed by a cluster composed of Mollusca (3,567 species), Platyhelminthes (2,292 species), Annelida (1,833 species), and Nematoda (1,447 species). All remaining groups had less than 1,000 species reported in Brazil, with Cnidaria (831 species), Porifera (628 species), Rotifera (606 species), and Bryozoa (520 species) representing those with more than 500 species. Analysis of the CTFB database can facilitate and direct efforts towards the discovery of new species in Brazil, but it is also fundamental in providing the best available list of valid nominal species to users, including those in science, health, conservation efforts, and any initiative involving animals. The importance of the CTFB is evidenced by the elevated number of citations in the scientific literature in diverse areas of biology, law, anthropology, education, forensic science, and veterinary science, among others. publications problem uptodate up date classifications context exception (CTFB http//fauna.jbrj.gov.br/, httpfaunajbrjgovbr http //fauna.jbrj.gov.br/ , jbrj gov br (http://fauna.jbrj.gov.br/) 2015 Brazil 80 specialists 1 2024 133691 133 691 133,69 125138 125 138 125,13 82.3%, 823 82 3 (82.3% 102000 102 000 102,00 7.69%, 769 7 69 (7.69% 11000 11 11,00 . 3,567 3567 567 (3,56 2,292 2292 2 292 (2,29 1,833 1833 833 (1,83 1,447 1447 447 (1,44 1000 1,00 831 (83 628 (62 606 (60 520 (52 50 users science health biology law anthropology education others http//fauna.jbrj.gov.br/ faunajbrjgovbr //fauna.jbrj.gov.br (http://fauna.jbrj.gov.br/ 201 8 202 13369 13 133,6 12513 12 125,1 82.3% (82.3 10200 10 00 102,0 7.69% 76 6 (7.69 1100 11,0 3,56 356 56 (3,5 2,29 229 29 (2,2 1,83 183 83 (1,8 1,44 144 44 (1,4 100 1,0 (8 62 (6 60 52 (5 5 http//fauna.jbrj.gov.br (http://fauna.jbrj.gov.br 20 1336 133, 1251 125, 82.3 (82. 1020 0 102, 7.69 (7.6 110 11, 3,5 35 (3, 2,2 22 (2, 1,8 18 (1, 1,4 14 4 ( 82. Abstract Introduction: The progression of diabetes mellitus to a global epidemic resulted in an increased prevalence of tibioperoneal disease in chronic limb threatening ischemia (CLTI). Distal disease still poses an enormous challenge to vascular surgeons. Crural angioplasty was formerly restricted to patients with short stenotic lesions or to high-risk patients for bypass surgery. Nevertheless, endovascular treatment has been used preferentially over bypass surgery in most centres. The aim of this study is to analyse the results of open ultra-distal revascularization in a single-centre with a limb preservation program for CLTI. Methods: The present study consists in a single-centre retrospective analysis of all patients with CLTI submitted to below the ankle bypass. The end points were limb-based patency (LBP), primary patency (PP) and secondary patency (SP) rates, freedom from CLTI, freedom from new CLTI, freedom from major index limb amputation, amputation free-survival, and overall survival. Patients were categorized in subgroups based on age (above or below 75 years), dialysis status, wound and infection grade (0 and 1 vs 2 and 3 in WIfI classification). Statistical analysis was carried out using Stata 12.1 (StataCorp®, Lakeway Drive, College Station, Texas, USA). Time-to-event end points were presented with Kaplan-Meier estimates, censored at major amputation, death, or last follow-up, and compared with the log rank test. Results: A total of 134 limbs in 122 patients with CLTI (83% male, median age of 68 years) were submitted to below the ankle bypasses. The median follow-up was 33.7 months. LBP, PP and SP were, respectively, 78%, 78% and 92% at 1 year, 73%, 73% and 88% at 2 years, and 62%, 62% and 79% at 4 years. At 1 year, 83% of the limbs were free from CLTI. Of these patients, 89% and 74% remained free from new CLTI at 2 and 4 years, respectively. Eighty-two percent of the patients were free from major index limb amputation at 4 years. Thirty-day mortality was 1.6% (2 patients) and 1-year and 2-year survival was 90% and 81%, respectively. Age, dialysis status and wound/infection grade (WIfI classification) did not influence patency rates. Conclusion: Below the ankle bypass is safe and has excellent clinical outcomes. The present study emphasizes the value of open surgery in a challenging territory, with high rates of patency, limb salvage, freedom from CLTI and from new CLTI. These results were not affected by patient status or clinical severity factors.

Abstract One hundred and sixty-six cats from two animal shelters were subjected to enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), indirect immunofluorescence antibody test (IFAT), conventional polymerase chain reaction (cPCR), quantitative PCR (qPCR) and parasitological tests (PA) for the diagnosis of Leishmania spp. Among them, 15% (25/166), 53.6% (89/166), 3.6% (06/166) and 1.8% (03/166) were positive by ELISA, IFAT, both PCRs and PA, respectively. The sequencing of ITS-1 PCR amplicons revealed a 100% match with Leishmania infantum. After the Leishmania spp. survey, 12 cats were selected and divided into two groups for clinical, hematological, and biochemical analysis: six L. infantum positive cats (G1) and six Leishmania spp. negative cats (G2). All the cats were negative for feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV) and feline leukemia virus (FeLV). A statistical analysis indicated significantly low platelet counts and significant hyperproteinemia associated with hypoalbuminemia in positive cats (p<0.05). Our results suggest that in endemic areas, cats with clinical signs of feline leishmaniosis (such as skin lesions, weight loss and/or enlarged lymph nodes) and that exhibit hematological and biochemical changes, such as low platelet counts and hyperproteinemia with hypoalbuminemia, should be tested for Leishmania spp. infection. sixtysix sixty enzymelinked enzyme linked ELISA , (ELISA) IFAT (IFAT) cPCR, cPCR (cPCR) qPCR (qPCR PA (PA spp them 15 25/166, 25166 25/166 25 166 (25/166) 536 53 6 53.6 89/166, 89166 89/166 89 (89/166) 36 3 3.6 06/166 06166 06 (06/166 18 1 8 1.8 03/166 03166 03 (03/166 respectively ITS1 ITS ITS- 100 survey L G1 G (G1 G2. ABSTRACT. The screening of cover crops is essential for improving the physical-hydric properties of compacted soils. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of mixed or single cover crops on improving the physical-hydric properties of compacted Oxisol. Species with tap-rooted and fibrous-rooted rooting patterns were evaluated. The species included pearl millet (Pennisetum americanum), pigeon pea (Cajanus cajan), sunn hemp (Crotalaria spectabilis), velvet bean (Mucuna pruriens), white oat (Avena sativa), black oat (Avena strigosa), rye (Secale cereale), black oat + forage turnip (Raphanus sativus), black oat + white lupin (Lupinus albus L.), and black oat + group pea (Pisum arvense L.). Mixing cover crops did not improve the physical properties of the soil. The tap-rooted pigeon pea effectively reduces bulk density and increases porosity and saturated hydraulic conductivity (Ksat) in compact soils. The selection of cover crops with characteristics that improve soil physical-hydric properties is crucial for compacted areas. ABSTRACT The cultivation of Cotton (Gossypium hirsutum) is trending in an upward expansion at Minas Gerais state, Brazil. Due this growth, the breeding program has been demanded for the knowledge about the genetic diversity and correlation between morpho-agronomic traits, to start interesting crosses. The objective of this work was to study the genetic diversity and the correlation network between morpho-agronomic traits of cotton genotypes. Two cotton accessions and five commercial cultivars: FM993, FMT701, FM910, DP604 and DP604BG were evaluated for 16 traits. The results revealed divergence between the genotypes. Unweighted pair-group method arithmetic average (UPGMA) analysis allocated the genotypes in three clusters, with DP604 and Accession 2 being the most divergent. The correlation network helped to visualize the association between traits, presenting a negative correlation between anthracnose with plant height (-0.465), plant vigor (-0.486) and main root length (-0.437). Also, even with some genotypes presenting a higher number of reproductive branches, the correlation for this trait with number of bolls showed a high significant value (0.68). Thus, the genotypes showed wide genetic diversity for the composition of future crosses in cotton breeding programs. The correlation network allowed the visualization of a medium to high correlation pattern for the morpho-agronomic traits. In this work, the combined use of p-sulfonic acid-calix[n]arene and microwave energy to hydrolyze the 1,3-dioxolane ketal of isatin was evaluated with excellent results. This is the first time that p-sulfonic acid-calix[n]arene has been used as the catalyst in a ketal hydrolysis reaction and the deprotection of the ketone carbonyl of isatin is reported. The presence of 2.5 mol% of p-sulfonic acid-calix[4,6]arene at 160 ºC resulted in over 96% conversion of this ketal in 10 min, with the additional advantage of using water as a solvent. This catalytic system (aqueous phase containing p-sulfonic acid-calix[4]arene) was reused for five consecutive cycles, with a conversion above 96% maintained. This reusable system is not practicable using p-toluenesulfonic acid and p-hydroxybenzenesulfonic acid as catalysts since both are extracted to the organic phase with the reaction product. The hydrolysis of 1,3-dioxolane ketal of isatins with different substituents (CH3, I, Br, Cl, F, NO2) in the aromatic ring was also evaluated. The protecting group of 5-methyl-isatin was removed with 73% conversion using 2.5 mol% of p-sulfonic acid-calix[4]arene at 160 ºC for 5 min. In contrast, the ketal of 5-nitro-isatin reached 80% conversion using the same conditions after 40 min.
