Progenesis QI (PQI) is a multiplatform bioinformatics tool that facilitates the identification workflow for metabolomics experiments. PQI uses fragmentation data provided by MassBank of North America (MoNA) libraries, among others, for metabolite annotation. However, PQI does not officially support MoNA libraries and other libraries based on structure-data files (.sdf). This paper describes the development and application of a software named MoNA to Progenesis QI Library Converter, allowing PQI and MoNA by correcting the fragmentation data of the library for Progenesis readability. We evaluated several public experimental datasets, including human plasma, plant extracts, cultured cells, bacteria, rat serum, and rat hippocampus. The results showed that it is mandatory to proceed with file conversion of each library to allow PQI to access fragmentation information from .msp (main spectra profile) files. This step is highly recommended to improve the identification level of the metabolites.

ABSTRACT This work aimed to evaluate the agronomic efficiency of cowpea cultivars inoculated with rhizobia strains recommended for cowpea in a semiarid environment. Experiments were carried out in Mossoró, Rio Grande do Norte, in two agricultural cycles: the first from January to April 2019, and the second from June to August of the same year. The experimental design adopted was randomized blocks with four replications arranged in a 4 × 4 x 2 factorial scheme, with treatments consisting of four cowpea cultivars: ‘BRS Imponente’, ‘BRS Itaim’, ‘BRS Novaera’, and ‘BRS Tumucumaque’ as well as three sources of N, two strains of Bradyrhizobium spp. registered for cowpea (BR 3262 and BR 3267) and, the application of mineral N (50 kg ha-1), beyond an absolute control, without inoculation or application of mineral N. In addition to two planting seasons. The cultivar ‘BRS Tumucumaque’ showed greater productive potential. The inoculation of cowpea seeds with Bradyrhizobium strains BR 3262 and BR 3267 provided grain yields similar to those obtained with the application of mineral N.
A cultivar 'BRS Tumucumaque' apresentou maior potencial produtivo.

Abstract Introduction: We investigated the clinical course and outcomes of patients submitted to cardiovascular surgery in Brazil and who had developed symptoms/signs of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in the perioperative period. Methods: A retrospective multicenter study including 104 patients who were allocated in three groups according to time of positive real time reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) for the SARS-CoV-2 (severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2): group 1, patients who underwent cardiac surgery > 10 days after positive RT-PCR; group 2, patients with a positive RT-PCR within 10 days before or after surgery; group 3, patients who presented positive RT-PCR > 10 days after surgery. The primary outcome was mortality and secondary outcomes were postoperative complications, intensive care unit (ICU) length of stay, and postoperative days of hospitalization. Results: The three groups were similar with respect to age, the European System of Cardiac Operative Risk Evaluation score, and comorbidities, except hypertension. Postoperative complications and death were significantly higher in groups 2 and 3 than in group 1, and no significant difference between groups 2 and 3 was seen. Group 2 showed a high prevalence of surgery performed as an urgent procedure. Although no significant differences were observed in ICU length of stay, total postoperative hospitalization time was significantly higher in group 3 than in groups 1 and 2. Conclusion: COVID-19 affecting the postoperative period of patients who underwent cardiovascular surgery is associated with a higher rate of morbidity and mortality. Delaying procedures in RT-PCR-positive patients may help reduce risks of perioperative complications and death.

HIGHLIGHTS Irrigation water salinity alters gas exchange and biosynthesis of photosynthetic pigments in po-megranate. The reduction in CO2 assimilation in pomegranate plants under salt stress is related to non-stomatal factors. Increasing nitrogen doses increase electrolyte leakage in pomegranate seedlings.

SUMMARY OBJECTIVE: To verify the association between prone position, increased diuresis, and decreased cumulative fluid balance in critically ill pediatric patients who underwent mechanical ventilation (MV) for pulmonary causes and describe adverse events related to the use of the position. METHODS: This is a retrospective observational study. Patients aged between 1 month and 12 years who underwent MV for pulmonary causes, between January 2013 and December 2015, were selected and divided between those who were put on prone position (PG) and those who were not (CG) during the hospitalization at the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). Data were analyzed longitudinally from D1 to D4. RESULTS: A total of 77 patients (PG = 37 and CG = 40) were analyzed. The general characteristics of both groups were similar. In the comparison between the groups, there was no increase in diuresis or decrease in cumulative fluid balance in the prone group. In the longitudinal analysis of D1 to D4, we saw that the PG presented higher diuresis (p = 0.034) and a lower cumulative fluid balance (p = 0.001) in D2. Regarding the use of diuretics, there was greater use of furosemide (P <0.001) and spironolactone (P = 0.04) in the PG. There was no increase in adverse events during the use of the prone position. CONCLUSION: The prone position was not associated with increased diuresis or decreased cumulative fluid balance in critically ill pediatric patients who underwent to MV for pulmonary causes.

ABSTRACT A total 120 piglets with an average live weight of 7.00 kg, weaned at 21 days, were used to evaluate the effect of neutral detergent fibre levels on the digestibility of nutrients and energy from the diets, productive performance, and the composition and rate of deposition of nutrients and energy in the bodies of piglets in the nursery phase. The animals were distributed according to a randomized-block design into five treatments, which consisted of neutral detergent fibre levels, with six replicates and four animals per plot. A quadratic effect was detected for the digestibility coefficients of nutrients and energy, feed intake and weight gain. The increase in fibre level promoted a linear increase in fat content in the carcass, blood, and body, whereas the energy in the carcass, organs, and body showed an inverse response. The results showed a quadratic effect on the nutrient deposition rate in the carcass, organs and body. In conclusion, the best digestibility of nutrients and energy from the diet is obtained with 10-11.5% neutral detergent fibre, as higher weight gain and greater protein deposition in the body are achieved at neutral detergent fibre levels of 10.6% and 10.3%, respectively.

ABSTRACT Two trials were aimed to evaluate beef tallow in diets with and without emulsifier on performance of pigs at growing-finishing phases. In the first trial, 15 barrows (22.03±0.62 kg) were distributed among three treatments: reference diet; test diet 1 (5% beef tallow) and test diet 2 (10% beef tallow). Beef tallow presented average value of 7130.97 kcal ME/kg. For the performance trail, 30 barrows (24.85±1.18 kg) were distributed among five treatments: T1 - diet with soybean oil and 3230 kcal ME /kg; T2 - diet with beef tallow and 3230 kcal ME/kg; T3 - diet with beef tallow and 3080 kcal ME/kg; T4 - diet with beef tallow, 3080 kcal/kg and 0.1% emulsifier; T5 - diet with beef tallow, 2930 kcal ME/kg and 0.1% emulsifier. Feed conversion was worse in animals fed diet with 3080 kcal ME/kg containing beef tallow and with 2930 kcal ME/kg with beef tallow and emulsifier. For economic availability, animals fed diet with beef tallow and 3230 kcal ME/kg and those fed diet with 3080 kcal ME/kg containing beef tallow and emulsifier, did not differ from animals fed diet with soybean oil, which enables the reduction up to 150 kcal ME/kg be compensated by emulsifier addition.

ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of Syzygium cumini leaves (SCL) in laying hens diets on productive performance, egg quality and lipid oxidation of yolk. A total of 108 Hysex White laying hens were distributed in a completely randomized design with three treatments and six replicates of six birds each. The treatments consisted of SCL inclusion at dietary levels of 0, 5 and 10 g/kg. There was no significant effect of SCL inclusion on feed intake, laying percentage, weight and egg mass, feed conversion ratio, Haugh units, specific gravity, percentage of yolk, albumen and egg shells and shell thickness. However, the inclusion of SCL significantly influenced the yolk color and yolk lipid oxidation measured by TBARS values. Yolk color increased and TBARS values decreased with the inclusion of SCL. The inclusion of SCL in laying hens diets improves pigmentation and lipid stability of yolk.

ABSTRACT Post-polio syndrome (PPS) is a condition that affects polio survivors years after recovery from an initial acute attack of the poliomyelitis virus. Most often, polio survivors experience a gradual new weakening in muscles that were previously affected by the polio infection. The actual incidence of cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) in individuals suffering from PPS is not known. However, there is a reason to suspect that individuals with PPS might be at increased risk. Method A search for papers was made in the databases Bireme, Scielo and Pubmed with the following keywords: post polio syndrome, cardiorespiratory and rehabilitation in English, French and Spanish languages. Although we targeted only seek current studies on the topic in question, only the relevant (double-blind, randomized-controlled and consensus articles) were considered. Results and Discussion Certain features of PPS such as generalized fatigue, generalized and specific muscle weakness, joint and/or muscle pain may result in physical inactivity deconditioning obesity and dyslipidemia. Respiratory difficulties are common and may result in hypoxemia. Conclusion Only when evaluated and treated promptly, somE patients can obtain the full benefits of the use of respiratory muscles aids as far as quality of life is concerned.

Abstract An updated inventory of Brazilian seed plants is presented and offers important insights into the country's biodiversity. This work started in 2010, with the publication of the Plants and Fungi Catalogue, and has been updated since by more than 430 specialists working online. Brazil is home to 32,086 native Angiosperms and 23 native Gymnosperms, showing an increase of 3% in its species richness in relation to 2010. The Amazon Rainforest is the richest Brazilian biome for Gymnosperms, while the Atlantic Rainforest is the richest one for Angiosperms. There was a considerable increment in the number of species and endemism rates for biomes, except for the Amazon that showed a decrease of 2.5% of recorded endemics. However, well over half of Brazillian seed plant species (57.4%) is endemic to this territory. The proportion of life-forms varies among different biomes: trees are more expressive in the Amazon and Atlantic Rainforest biomes while herbs predominate in the Pampa, and lianas are more expressive in the Amazon, Atlantic Rainforest, and Pantanal. This compilation serves not only to quantify Brazilian biodiversity, but also to highlight areas where there information is lacking and to provide a framework for the challenge faced in conserving Brazil's unique and diverse flora.

An experiment was conducted with the sugarcane (Saccharum spp.) variety RB92579, during the period of 2010 to 2011 in Capim,PB, aiming to analyse the components of the radiation and energy balances. The following variables were monitored: incident and reflected solar radiation, net radiation, atmospheric radiation incident to the surface, emitted effective radiation and the albedo of the vegetated surface. The energy balance based on the Bowen ratio was used to determine the latent and air and soil sensible heat fluxes. For the sugarcane maximum growth and maturation phases showed that: a) there were no significant changes in the behavior of the radiation balance components, b) the albedo ranged from 0.17 to 0.27 with an average of 0.23; c) the linear regressions between net radiation and net shortwave radiation showed high levels of correlation; d) the thermal coefficient decreased while the coefficient of transformation into long waves increased with increasing vegetation cover, e) the daily net radiation and the latent and sensible heat fluxes increased from the rainy to the dry seasons; f) 82% of net radiation was used as latent heat, 16% and 2% as sensible heat for heating air and the soil, respectively.

The climate is a determining factor for the success of the productive activity, thus for greater efficiency on the farm, the animals x environment interaction should be considered because they show different responses to the peculiarities of the climate of each region. This study aimed to evaluate the thermal comfort of the Santa Inês, Dorper and undefined breed - SRD sheep, created under open sky conditions. The research was conducted at the Campus III of the University of the State of Bahia in Juazeiro, during the period November 15, 2009 to February 14, 2010. The animals were divided into four groups according to coat color: white, light brown, dark brown and black. For measurements of microclimatic conditions faced by sheep, an automatic meteorological station was installed in the experimental area, with its sensors positioned at the mean height of the animal, 50 cm above the surface. The results showed that due to high radiant heat load, resulting in a high incidence of solar radiation and high temperatures, the animals regardless of breed and coat color experienced, mainly in the afternoon, high thermal stress and discomfort.

The region of 'Chapada do Apodi', in the State of Rio Grande do Norte, stands out in Brazilian production and exportation of melon. This region possesses two aquiffers, one of lower exploration cost, though of high salinity, another of low salinity, with higher cost and limited use. This work was carried out with the objective to evaluate the effect of waters of different salinities combined with five doses of K in the dry matter accumulation and productivity of the melon (Cucumis melo L.) cultivar Goldex. The experimental design adopted was split plot in completely randomized blocks. The melon crop was irrigated with low (0.52 dS m-1) and high (2.41 dS m-1) salinity water combined with five doses of K2O (218, 273, 328, 383 and 438 kg ha-1). Plants were collected at 21, 28, 35, 49 and 63 days after sowing, and were separated in branches (shoot + leaves), flowers and fruits, and the total dry matter of the aerial parts obtained by summation. The absolute and relative growth rates and the production of fruits were also evaluated. The absolute growth rate of the plant was maximum between 35 and 49 days. The highest total biomass was obtained with 438 kg ha-1 K2O and use of high salinity water at the end of crop cycle.
