Abstract The objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of the use of the Murashige & Skook (MS) and Linsmaer & Skoog (LS) media and of filter caps on culture flasks on the morphological and physiological characteristics of basil cultivars in vitro, as well as to determine the composition of the essential oil of plants acclimatized in pots. For the evaluation of the cultivation media, cultivars Anise, Cinnamon, Grecco a Palla, and Italian Large Leaf were used. The Anise, Cinnamon, Italian Large Leaf, and Maria Bonita cultivars were used for the evaluation of the use of filter caps. The composition of the essential oils of cultivars Anise, Cinnamon, and Italian Large Leaf was also evaluated. The basil seedlings showed a higher aerial-part dry mass and a lower hyperhydricity rate when grown in the MS medium. The flasks without filter caps produced seedlings with lower contamination rates. When acclimatized in pots, cultivars Limoncino and Anise presented the tallest plants with the largest crown diameters. In the composition of essential oils, methyl cinnamate and linalool stood out in cultivar Cinnamon, methyl chavicol in Anise, and linalool in Italian Large Leaf. In the in vitro cultivation, the evaluated cultivars present a higher aerial-part production in the MS medium and a lower contamination without the use of filters, whereas, in the pots, the composition of essential oils varies according to the cultivar. Resumo O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o efeito do uso dos meios Murashige & Skook (MS) e Linsmaer & Skoog (LS) e de tampas com filtros nos frascos de cultivo sobre as características morfológicas e fisiológicas de cultivares de manjericão in vitro, bem como determinar a composição do óleo essencial de plantas aclimatizadas em vasos. Para a avaliação dos meios de cultivo, foram utilizadas as cultivares Anise, Cinnamon, Grecco a Palla e Italian Large Leaf. RESUMO: A cultura de tecidos é uma técnica importante para avaliar a influência da luz no desenvolvimento das plantas. O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o cultivo in vitro de cultivares de Ocimum basilicum sob diferentes fontes de luz. Primeiramente, foi avaliado o efeito de fontes de luz fluorescentes e LEDs (Diodo emissores de luz amarela, azul, verde e vermelha) em cinco cultivares de manjericão (Cinnamon, Grecco a Palla, Italian Large, Limoncino e Maria Bonita); e posteriormente o efeito de duas lâmpadas LED (Growlux e Azul). As lâmpadas amarelas não proporcionaram um bom desenvolvimento das plantas de manjericão in vitro. Verificou-se que o tamanho das raízes e massa fresca nas cultivares Cinnamon, Grecco a Palla e Limoncino nas duas condições luminosas foram semelhantes. A condição luminosa das lâmpadas Growlux promoveu maior número de folhas, massa fresca e seca quando comparada com lâmpadas LED azuis nas cultivares Cinnamon, Grecco a Palla e Limoncino. Assim, concluiu-se que as lâmpadas Growlux promovem uma maior quantidade de biomassa de manjericão.

ABSTRACT: Tissue culture is an important technique for assessing the influence of light on plant growth. This study evaluated the in vitro cultivation of Ocimum basilicum cultivars under different light sources. First, an experiment was conducted to evaluate the effect of fluorescent and LED (Light Emitting Diode) light sources (yellow, blue, green, and red) on five basil cultivars (Cinnamon, Grecco a Palla, Italian Large, Limoncino, and Maria Bonita), followed by, another experiment, with two LED lights (Growlux and Blue). In vitro basil plants did not exhibit good growth under yellow lamps. The size of the roots of Cinnamon, Grecco a Palla and Limoncino cultivars under the two light conditions were similar. Moreover, the luminous condition of the Growlux lamps generated a greater quantity of leaves and fresh, and dry weight than blue LED lamps for Cinnamon, Grecco a Palla and Limoncino cultivars. Thus, it was concluded that the Growlux lamps promoted a greater amount of basil biomass.

RESUMO O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o acúmulo de potássio e cloreto na produtividade e qualidade de tubérculos de batata, cultivar Asterix, sob aplicação de duas fontes de fertilizante potássico (KCl e K2SO4.2MgSO4) e combinações destes. O delineamento experimental foi em blocos casualizados, com cinco tratamentos e quatro repetições, em esquema fatorial com parcela subdividida. A presença de cloreto na fertilização potássica acima de 61,8% da dose recomendada afeta o crescimento das plantas de batata, com menor acúmulo de matéria seca na parte aérea. Isso não ocorre nos tubérculos devido à menor translocação de nutrientes para os tubérculos. O acúmulo de K é variável entre os níveis, dependendo dos íons companheiros das fontes. Ao longo do ciclo, a quantidade de cloreto aumenta na parte aérea e tubérculos com o aumento da % de KCl. A produtividade total é afetada pelo uso da combinação das doses da fonte de potássio, com produtividade máxima de 41,3 t ha-1 com a associação entre 64,5% KCl e 36,5% KCl and K2SO4.2MgSO4. Os sólidos solúveis não variaram com as fontes na dose de 180 kg ha-1 K2O.

ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to evaluate potassium and chloride accumulation in, and the yield and quality of the potato tubers of the Asterix cultivar, under the application of two potassium fertilizer sources (KCl and K2SO4.2MgSO4) and their combinations. The experimental design was a randomized complete block with five treatments and four replications in a factorial scheme with a subdivided plot. The presence of greater than 61.8% of the recommended dose of chloride in potassium fertilization affects potato plant growth, with less dry matter accumulation in the aerial part. This does not occur in the tubers because of lower nutrient translocation to the tubers. K accumulation varies between levels depending on the companion ions of the sources. Throughout the cycle, the amount of chloride increased in the aerial parts and tubers with an increase in the percentage of KCl. The total productivity is affected by the use of a combination of potassium sources in different proportions, with a maximum yield of 41.3 t ha-1 with a combination of 64.5% KCl and 36.5% K2SO4.2MgSO4. Soluble solids did not vary with the sources at a dose of 180 kg ha-1 K2O.

Abstract The addition of organic compounds to fertilizers has shown positive effects on plant metabolism. This study aimed to evaluate the macronutrient accumulation and productivity of potato with the use of biofertilizer (BF) applied to the leaves. A 2×7 factorial plot with a plot subdivided in time and ten replications used two forms of fertilization: a chemical fertilizer with conventional NPK (nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium: control) and conventional fertilizer plus biofertilizers (BF); evaluations were performed 31, 41, 51, 61, 71, 81 and 91 days after planting (DAP) using the Jelly cultivar. The BF increased the maximum N, K, Ca and Mg accumulations in the leaves, especially N and K, with the period of greatest accumulation occurring between 62 and 66 DAP. The accumulations of N, P, K, Ca and Mg in the tubers accelerated from 71 DAP. At the end of the cycle (e.g., 91 DAP), the increases in the nutrient accumulations of N, P, K and Ca were between 30 and 64% higher for the BF application, the Mg accumulations doubled and the S accumulations exhibited no differences between the evaluation periods. For the leaves, the following decreasing sequence of maximum accumulation was observed: K>N>Ca>Mg>S>P. For the tubers, the following decreasing sequence was obtained: K>N>P>Ca>Mg>S. The use of biofertilizers caused higher productivity of tubers of greater caliber and soluble solids contents in the cv. Jelly potato tubers.

Resumen La adición de compuestos orgánicos en fertilizantes ha mostrado un efecto positivo en el metabolismo de las plantas. El objetivo fue evaluar la acumulación de macronutrientes en tubérculos de papa con el uso de biofertilizantes líquidos (BF), aplicados a través de la hoja. El diseño experimental fue factorial 2×7 con una división en el tiempo y diez repeticiones, consistió en dos formas de fertilización: química con NPK convencional (control) y convencionales más biofertilizantes (BF) y evaluaciones en 31; 41; 51; 61; 71; 81 y 91 días después de la siembra (DAS), utilizando el cultivar Jelly. BF favorece las acumulaciones máximas de N, K, Ca y Mg en las hojas, entre 8 y 37%, especialmente para N y K, con un período de mayor acumulación entre 62 y 66 DAP. La acumulación de N, P, K, Ca y Mg en los tubérculos se acelera desde 71 DAP. Al final del ciclo (91 DAP), el aumento en la acumulación de nutrientes N, P, K y Ca es entre 30 y 64% mayor en la aplicación de BF líquido, el Mg se acumula el doble y S no difiere entre los períodos de evaluación. Para las hojas, se obtuvo la siguiente secuencia decreciente de acumulación máxima: K>N>Ca>Mg>S>P. Para los tubérculos, se obtuvo K>N>P>Ca>Mg>S. El sou de biofertilizantes proporciona una mayor productividad de tubérculos de mayor calibre y contenido de sólidos solubles en el papa cv. Jelly.

RESUMO A utilização de fertilizantes em doses adequadas promovem impactos positivos na produção e no meio ambiente. Portanto, objetivou-se avaliar a influência de doses de nitrogênio na produtividade da batata cultivares Ágata e Atlantic em Unaí-MG e Ágata em Mucuge-BA. O cultivo de Ágata e Atlantic foi conduzido em Minas Gerais (Unaí), entre maio a agosto e junho a setembro de 2014, respectivamente. Já na Bahia (Mucugê), Ágata foi cultivada entre setembro a dezembro de 2014. O delineamento experimental utilizado foi o de blocos ao acaso. Foram avaliadas as doses de 0, 30, 70, 120 e 280 kg ha-1 de N. Na fase de desenvolvimento foram avaliados os teores de macro e micronutrientes em folhas de batateira. No final do ciclo foi avaliada a produção de tubérculos. Na ausência de aplicação de N, observou-se que o P, K, S e B apresentaram teores inferiores ao adequado em Atlantic-MG, os teores de S e Zn foram inferiores ao adequado em Ágata-MG e os teores de N, K, Mg e S foram inferiores ao adequado em Ágata-BA. Os demais nutrientes atenderam as necessidades da batateira, sendo o incremento de N favoráveis ao aumento dos teores da maioria dos nutrientes, em todos os experimentos. As doses máximas de N variam entre 138 e 194 kg ha-1, em região de CTC alta e baixa, respectivamente. O conhecimento da interação entre atributos do solo, condições climáticas e especificidades das cultivares permite aprimorar a predição de dosagem e redução na quantidade ótima, sem afetar os rendimentos.

ABSTRACT The use of fertilizers at appropriate doses positively impacts the production and the environment. Therefore, we aimed to evaluate the influence of nitrogen (N) rates on the crop yields of the potato cultivars, Ágata and Atlantic in Unaí, Minas Gerais (MG), and Ágata in Mucugê, Bahia (BA), Brazil. The cultivation of Ágata and Atlantic was conducted in MG from May to August and June to September 2014, respectively. In BA, Ágata was cultivated between September and December 2014. A random block experimental design was used with treatment rates of 0, 30, 70, 120, and 280 kg ha-1 of N. The macro and micronutrient concentrations in potato leaves were evaluated. At the end of the growth cycle, the production of tubers was also evaluated. In the absence of N application, it was observed that P, K, S, and B were below the adequate levels in Atlantic-MG, the S and Zn levels were lower than the adequate levels in Ágata -MG, and the N, K, Mg, and S levels were less than the adequate levels in Ágata-BA. The other nutrients met the needs of the potato, with the N increase being favorable to the levels of most nutrients in all experiments. The maximum rates of N varied between 138 and 194 kg ha-1 in the high and low cationic exchange capacity (CEC) regions, respectively. The knowledge of the interaction among soil attributes, climate conditions and crop specificities allows for the improved prediction of the dosage of N and a reduction in the optimum amount without affecting yields.

RESUMO O uso comercial de híbridos de cebola é preferido pelos produtores. Em contrapartida, a produção de sementes híbridas de cebola é extremamente ineficiente. Isso se deve ao fato do uso de linhagens obtidas por sucessivas autofecundações assumindo o efeito de depressão por endogamia per se. Diante disso, faz-se necessário buscar novas alternativas capazes de reduzir o efeito de depressão por endogamia nas linhagens. Objetivou-se neste trabalho avaliar possíveis diferenças de polimorfismo e níveis de heterozigosidade de linhagens obtidas de plantas intercruzadas e autofecundadas. Foram utilizadas 12 populações de cebola pertencentes ao programa de melhoramento da Bayer (Granex, IPA-1, IPA-2 e IPA-3), obtidas por autofecundação de uma planta, entrecruzamento de duas plantas ou intercruzamento de três plantas. Três indivíduos de cada linhagem foram utilizados nas análises. As amplificações foram realizadas a partir do uso de 8 microsatélite primers com maior polimorfismo, de acordo com estudos de caracterização de germoplasma realizados pela CITA-Espanhola. A heterozigosidade geralmente diminui com a autofertilização e aumenta à medida que mais plantas são usadas no cruzamento. Os marcadores SSRs usados no presente estudo foram eficientes para detectar variabilidade nos diferentes backgrounds genéticos. Com os resultados obtidos, sugere-se realizar a obtenção de híbridos entre as diferentes combinações e analisar o desempenho per se das diferentes modalidades de obtenção de linhagens propostas na presente pesquisa.

ABSTRACT The commercial use of onion hybrids is preferred by producers. In contrast, the production of hybrid onion seeds is extremely inefficient. This is due to the use of lineages obtained by successive self-fertilizations assuming the effect of inbreeding depression per se. Therefore, it is necessary to understand new alternatives to reduce the effect of inbreeding depression in the strains. The objective of this study was to evaluate possible differences in polymorphism and levels of heterozygosity of strains obtained from intercrossed and self-fertilized plants. Twelve onion populations belonging to Bayer’s breeding program (Granex, IPA-1, IPA-2 and IPA-3) were used, obtained by self-fertilization of one plant, intercrossing of two plants or intercrossing of three plants. Three individuals from each strain were used in the analyzes. The amplifications were performed using 8 microsatellite primers with greater polymorphism, according to germplasm characterization studies carried out by CITA. Heterozygosity generally decreases with self-fertilization and increases as more plants are used in the cross. The SSR markers used in the present study were efficient in detecting variability in different genetic backgrounds. With the results obtained, it is suggested to carry out the obtaining of hybrids between the different combinations and to analyze the performance per se of the different modalities of obtaining strains proposed in the present research.

Abstract Mitigating reductions in vigor in onion seed production has been a great challenge to breeding programs. Therefore, we compared the effects of inbreeding depression among populations obtained from self-fertilization and crossbreeding with two and three plants. We evaluated eleven populations and three breeding methods (two and three-plant crossbreeding, and self-fertilization of one plant) and measured the characteristics related to seed yield (plant appearance, stem vigor, number of umbels, flowering uniformity, fruit setting, and resistance to Alternaria) from 2014 to 2015. Thirteen RAPD molecular markers were used to determine the genetic divergence among populations derived from different breeding methods. We found that inbreeding depression affects plant vigor in early generations that have greater heterozygosity. Three-plant crossbreeding results in greater seed yield in populations with low levels of inbreeding. The populations obtained from self-fertilization and two- and three-plant crossbreeding were genetically similar, demonstrating the efficiency of obtaining inbred lines without genetic divergence.

Resumo: O maracujá-amarelo conquistou significativa posição no agronegócio de frutas tropicais, com isso, produtores despertaram interesse para expandir seus pomares, sendo necessárias informações técnicas que garantam a alta produtividade das lavouras. No intuito de observar fatores relacionados ao material propagativo visando a qualidade e a maximização do potencial genético objetivou-se avaliar a germinação e a emergência de sementes de maracujá coletadas em três posições nos frutos e submetidas a métodos de retirada da mucilagem (arilo). Os frutos de maracujá foram seccionados em três partes: distal, mediana e proximal. Cada um destes conteúdos foi submetido aos métodos mecânico e de fermentação para remoção do arilo. Podendo concluir que a posição da semente no fruto do maracujazeiro não interfere na germinação e o método de remoção do arilo por extração mecânica prejudica a germinação e a emergência de plântulas.

Abstract: Yellow passion fruit has conquered a significant position in the agribusiness of tropical fruits; therefore, farmers have been interested in expanding their groves, and technical information that guarantees the high yield of the farmings is needed. Aiming to observe factors related to the propagative material targeted at quality and maximization of the genetic potential, the objective of the study consisted in assessing germination and emergence of passion fruit seeds collected in three positions in the fruits and submitted to different methods of mucilage removal (aryl). The passion fruits were split in three parts: distal, medial and proximal and the contents of each part was divided in two. The content of each part of the fruit was submitted to mechanical and by fermentation methods for removal of aryl. It is concluded that the seed position in the fruit does not interferes with the germination. The aryl removal method by mechanical extraction affects the germination and seedling emergence.

A composição química e a textura dos grãos do milho doce estão, diretamente, relacionadas com as classes de endosperma que interferem na aceitação do produto pelos consumidores. Por isso, este trabalho teve por objetivo avaliar as características sensoriais de híbridos de milho doce e de híbridos de milho verde, em função de intervalos de colheita. O experimento foi instalado na Estação Experimental de Pesquisa da Syngenta Seeds Ltda, no município de Uberlândia-MG. O delineamento experimental foi de blocos casualizados, em esquema fatorial 8x4, correspondente a oito híbridos (seis híbridos experimentais de milho doce - SWC03, SWC04, SWC05, SWC06, SWC07 e SWC08 e dois híbridos de milho verde SWC01 e SWC02) e quatro intervalos de colheita (26, 28, 30 e 32 dias após a colheita - DAF), com três repetições. No estudo, que envolveu 41 pessoas (25 mulheres e 16 homens), utilizando-se o teste de aceitação com escala hedônica, concluiu-se que os híbridos de milho doce têm maior aceitação que os híbridos de milho verde, independentemente do intervalo de colheita. Colheitas tardias (32 DAF) refletem-se em redução da aceitabilidade do milho doce, que se assemelha à do milho verde (entre indiferente e gostei ligeiramente, para cor, e desgostei ligeiramente e desgostei moderadamente, para textura e sabor). Para todos os híbridos testados, a colheita, quando realizada entre 26 e 28 DAF, proporciona produtos com melhores resultados sensoriais (textura, sabor e cor).

The chemical composition and texture of the grains of sweet corn are directly related to the classes of endosperm that interfere in the product acceptance by the consumers. Thus, the objective of the present study was to evaluate the sensory characteristics of hybrids of sweet and green corn according to harvest intervals. The experiment was conducted at the Experimental Research Station of Syngenta Seeds Ltda, in the city of Uberlândia, State of MG. The experimental design was a randomized block in an 8 x 4 factorial design, corresponding to eight hybrids (six hybrids of sweet corn: SWC03, SWC04, SWC05, SWC06, SWC07 and SWC08, and two hybrids of green corn: SWC01 and SWC02) and four harvest intervals (26, 28, 30 and 32 days after harvest- DAH), with three replications. In the study, which involved 41 people (25 women and 16 men), using the acceptance test with hedonic scale, it was concluded that hybrids of sweet corn have greater acceptance than hybrid of green corn, regardless of harvest interval. A late harvest (32 DAF) reflects in a reduction in the acceptability of sweet corn, which resembles to the acceptance of green corn (between indifferent and slightly liked it for color and, slightly disliked it and moderately liked it for texture and flavor). In all the tested hybrids, when the harvest was performed between 26 and 28 DAH, products with better sensory results (texture, flavor and color) were provided.

Em culturas muito exigentes em nutrição, como a batata, é importante conhecer a dinâmica entre os nutrientes, garantindo, assim, altos rendimentos. Nesse contexto, objetiva-se com este trabalho avaliar a produtividade de tubérculos de batata cultivar Ágata submetida a níveis de adubação e a partir das produtividades e análise foliar estabelecer índices do Sistema Integrado de Diagnose e Recomendação (DRIS). Foram conduzidos três experimentos [nitrogênio (N), fósforo (P) e potássio (K)] em São Gotardo e Itajubá em MG. As doses testadas foram: 0; 70; 140; 210 e 240 kg ha-1 de N; 0; 150; 300; 450 e 600 kg ha-1 de K2O e 0; 200; 400; 600 e 800 kg ha-1 de P2O5. Aos 30 DAP, foram amostradas folhas de cada parcela para análise foliar. Ao final dos experimentos os tubérculos foram colhidos e calculada a produtividade da área útil das parcelas. O DRIS permite conhecer a ordem de limitações dos nutrientes nas lavouras de batata, possibilitando a adequação das relações entre os nutrientes ao longo dos ciclos de cultivo na àrea, o que otimiza o manejo da adubação. Doses de 0 a 450 kg de K2O associadas a 140 kg de N e 400 kg de P2O5 refletiram em maiores produtividades devido a melhor dinâmica entre os nutrientes na solução do solo e consequentemente absorção e desenvolvimento. Contudo, os resultados devem ser avaliados segundo a realidade do local de cultivo, pois o balanço entre os nutrientes depende também do tipo de solo, cultivar, condições climáticas e nível tecnológico do produtor.

In crops that are very demanding of nutrition, such as the potato, it is important to know the dynamics between nutrients, thereby ensuring high yields. In this context, the objective of this work was to evaluate tuber yield in the potato cultivar 'Agata' when subjected to different levels of fertilisation, and by means of the productivity and leaf analysis, to establish indices for the Diagnosis and Recommendation Integrated System (DRIS). Three experiments were carried out [nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P) and potassium (K)] in São Gotardo and Itajubá in the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil. The dosages tested were 0, 70, 140, 210 and 240 kg N ha-1, 0, 150, 300, 450 and 600 kg K2O ha-1 and 0, 200, 400, 600 and 800 kg P2O5 ha-1. At 30 days after planting (DAP), leaves from each plot were sampled for analysis. At the end of the experiments the tubers were harvested and the productivity of the useable area of the plots was calculated. DRIS allows the sequence of nutrient limitations in potato crops to be known, allowing adjustment of the ratios between nutrients throughout the crop cycles in the area and optimising the management of fertilisation. Rates of 0 to 450 kg K2O combined with 140 kg N and 400 kg P2O5 reflected in higher yields due to the better dynamics between the nutrients in the soil solution, and consequently better absorption and development. However, the results should be evaluated bearing in mind the reality of the location, because the balance between nutrients also depends on the type of soil, the cultivar, the climatic conditions and the level of technology of the producer.

RESUMO O objetivo do trabalho foi avaliar a influência do estádio de maturação dos frutos nas características físicas e de germinação de pirênios de Schefflera morototoni submetidos a tratamentos pré-germinativos. Frutos com coloração verde e verde-arroxeada foram coletados de 14 acessos, despolpados em água corrente, descartando-se, após contabilização, os pirênios chochos, com endosperma retraído e oxidado, utilizando- se os uniformes (com endosperma esverdeado ocupando toda a cavidade do pirênio). O delineamento experimental foi o inteiramente casualizado em esquema fatorial 2 x 5 (estádios de maturação dos frutos e tratamentos pré-germinativos), com quatro repetições em parcelas contendo 25 pirênios. Verificou-se que, para maior capacidade e velocidade de germinação dos pirênios, os frutos devem ser colhidos quando apresentarem coloração verde-arroxeada, descartando-se aqueles com pirênios chochos, endosperma retraído ou oxidado. A capacidade de germinação dos pirênios com endosperma uniforme varia entre 50 e 60%, com início do processo em cerca de 40 dias após semeadura, se estendendo por até 60 dias em vermiculita. Pirênios despolpados, secos e embebidos em água a 60oC por 5 minutos, seguida da embebição em água à temperatura ambiente por 12 horas iniciam o processo de germinação em menor tempo, em relação aos despolpados, secos, escarificados e embebidos por 6 horas. O endocarpo dos frutos é permeável e rígido, no entanto, apresenta abertura natural quando embebido.

ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to evaluate the influence of the maturation stage of the fruit on the physical characteristics and germination of Schefflera morototoni pyrenes submitted to pre-germination treatments. Fruits with green and purplish green coloration were collected from 14 accesses, pulped in running water, discarding the hollow pyrenes, after counting, together with retracted and oxidized endosperm, and using the uniform pyrenes (with greenish endosperm occupying the whole cavity of the pyrene). The experiment was conducted in a completely randomized design in a 2 x 5 factorial scheme (stages of fruit maturation and pre-germination treatments), with four repetitions in parcels containing 25 pyrenes. For greater capacity and germination speed of the pyrenes, fruits should be harvested when they present a purplish green coloration, while discarding those with hollow pyrenes, with retracted or oxidized endosperm. The germination capacity of the pyrenes with uniform endosperm varied between 50 and 60%, with the beginning of the process at about 40 days after planting and continuing for up to 60 days in vermiculite. Pulped pyrenes, dried and soaked in water at 60ºC for 5 minutes, followed by soaking in water at room temperature for 12 hours began the germination process in less time, in relation to those pulped, dried, scarified and soaked for 6 hours. The fruit endocarp is permeable and rigid; however, it presents a natural opening when soaked.

O experimento foi conduzido em delineamento inteiramente ao acaso, para avaliar os efeitos da redução de proteína bruta (PB) com suplementação de aminoácidos essenciais sobre o desempenho e características de carcaça de frangos de corte machos da linhagem Ross, na fase de 21 a 42 dias de idade. Foram utilizados 720 frangos, distribuídos em 4 tratamentos e seis repetições com 30 aves cada. Os níveis de proteína bruta utilizados foram 21; 19 e 17 e 15% de PB. A redução de proteína levou a um aumento linear dos teores de gordura e matéria seca. Houve ainda efeito quadrático dos níveis de proteína bruta, sendo para máximo ganho de peso, peso aos 42 dias e consumo de dieta os níveis de 19,28; 19,35 e 16,75% de PB, respectivamente. Houve efeito quadrático sobre o rendimento de peito, estimando máximo rendimento para frangos alimentados com dietas contendo 18,28% de PB.

A completely randomized experimental design was carried out to evaluate the effects of crude protein (CP) reduction of diets with essential amino acids supplementation on performance and body composition of male broiler chickens from 21 to 42 days of age. A total of seven hundred twenty broiler chickens were used. The birds were allotted in four treatments and six replicates of thirty birds each. The diet CP levels were 21, 19, 17 and 15%. The reduction of protein led to a linear increase in fat and dry matter. There was also a quadratic effect of the CP levels; for maximum weight gain; weight at 42 days and final weight and feed intake. The maximum performance of these parameters were estimated for broilers fed 19.28; 19.35 and16.75% CP diet, respectively. There was a quadratic effect of CP level on breast yield, the maximum performance estimated for broiler fed 18.28% CP diet.
