ABSTRACT Among the necessary phytotechnical adjustments, the correct recommendation of the plant population of each soybean cultivar is of paramount importance for success in crop production. Thus, the objective of this study was to analyze the distribution and spatial autocorrelation of the soybean plant population according to the spatial variability of the physical and chemical attributes of Oxisol in the Brazilian Cerrado region. The attributes studied were plant population, soybean grain yield, apparent soil electrical conductivity, soil organic matter content, cation exchange capacity, hydrogenionic potential, and clay content in the soil. The plant population varied inversely as a function of apparent soil electrical conductivity. The areas with the highest values of apparent soil electrical conductivity, soil organic matter content, cation exchange capacity, and clay content had the lowest plant populations. Soybean yield was not influenced by increase or decrease in the plant population. Thus, it is economically viable to plant with lower plant density to improve the farmer’s profit margin.

ABSTRACT This study aimed to provide further insight into the evolutionary dynamics of SARS-CoV-2 by analyzing the case of a 40-year-old man who had previously undergone autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplantation due to a diffuse large B-cell lymphoma. He developed a persistent SARS-CoV-2 infection lasting at least 218 days and did not manifest a humoral immune response to the virus during this follow-up period. Whole-genome sequencing and viral cultures confirmed a persistent infection with a replication-positive virus that had undergone genetic variation for at least 196 days after symptom onset. O acúmulo de nutrientes apresentou a seguinte ordem decrescente: K>N>Mg>Ca>P>S>Fe>Mn>Zn>Cu (1º ciclo); e, K>N>Mg>Ca>P>S>Fe>Zn>Mn>Cu (2º ciclo). capimelefante capim elefante isso objetivouse objetivou se capimelefante. elefante. amostragem tempo 2 m2 m cultivo 21 35 49 63 77 10 11 plantio uniformização experimentais 9 7 1 º 6 decrescente KNMgCaPSFeMnZnCu K N Mg Ca P S Fe Mn Zn Cu ciclo) KNMgCaPSFeZnMnCu . 3 4
ABSTRACT Elephant grass fertilization is performed more efficiently by analyzing growth curves and nutrient accumulation. This study evaluated elephant grass's growth, dry matter production, and nutrient accumulation. A sampling design was used, with plant collections over time. Elephant grass was cultivated in four plots of 27 m2 during two cultivation cycles. Destructive sampling of four plants was carried out per collection to evaluate dry matter production and nutrient accumulations. In the first cycle, plants were collected at 21, 35, 49, 63, 77, 91, 105 and 119 days after planting. After the last collection of the first cycle, a standardization cut was made, eliminating the remaining plants in the experimental plots. The second cycle of collections was carried out at 21, 35, 49, 63, 77, 91, and 105 days after the uniformity cut. In all collections, the number of tillers per linear meter was counted, and the height of the plants was evaluated. The data were subjected to nonlinear regression analysis. The accumulation of nutrients by elephant grass accompanied the production of dry matter. The highest rates of dry matter production occurred around 70 days. The greatest height growth occurred from 18 to 102 days in the 1st cycle and 8 to 61 days in the 2nd cycle. Nutrient accumulation showed the following decreasing order: K>N>Mg>Ca>P>S>Fe>Mn>Zn>Cu (1st cycle); and K>N>Mg>Ca>P>S>Fe>Zn>Mn>Cu (2nd cycle). grasss s used time 2 m cycles accumulations 21 35 49 63 77 91 10 11 planting made counted analysis 7 1 st 6 nd order KNMgCaPSFeMnZnCu K N Mg Ca P S Fe Mn Zn Cu cycle) KNMgCaPSFeZnMnCu . 3 4 9

ABSTRACT The limited temporal completeness and taxonomic accuracy of species lists, made available in a traditional manner in scientific publications, has always represented a problem. These lists are invariably limited to a few taxonomic groups and do not represent up-to-date knowledge of all species and classifications. In this context, the Brazilian megadiverse fauna is no exception, and the Catálogo Taxonômico da Fauna do Brasil (CTFB) (http://fauna.jbrj.gov.br/), made public in 2015, represents a database on biodiversity anchored on a list of valid and expertly recognized scientific names of animals in Brazil. The CTFB is updated in near real time by a team of more than 800 specialists. By January 1, 2024, the CTFB compiled 133,691 nominal species, with 125,138 that were considered valid. Most of the valid species were arthropods (82.3%, with more than 102,000 species) and chordates (7.69%, with over 11,000 species). These taxa were followed by a cluster composed of Mollusca (3,567 species), Platyhelminthes (2,292 species), Annelida (1,833 species), and Nematoda (1,447 species). All remaining groups had less than 1,000 species reported in Brazil, with Cnidaria (831 species), Porifera (628 species), Rotifera (606 species), and Bryozoa (520 species) representing those with more than 500 species. Analysis of the CTFB database can facilitate and direct efforts towards the discovery of new species in Brazil, but it is also fundamental in providing the best available list of valid nominal species to users, including those in science, health, conservation efforts, and any initiative involving animals. The importance of the CTFB is evidenced by the elevated number of citations in the scientific literature in diverse areas of biology, law, anthropology, education, forensic science, and veterinary science, among others. publications problem uptodate up date classifications context exception (CTFB http//fauna.jbrj.gov.br/, httpfaunajbrjgovbr http //fauna.jbrj.gov.br/ , jbrj gov br (http://fauna.jbrj.gov.br/) 2015 Brazil 80 specialists 1 2024 133691 133 691 133,69 125138 125 138 125,13 82.3%, 823 82 3 (82.3% 102000 102 000 102,00 7.69%, 769 7 69 (7.69% 11000 11 11,00 . 3,567 3567 567 (3,56 2,292 2292 2 292 (2,29 1,833 1833 833 (1,83 1,447 1447 447 (1,44 1000 1,00 831 (83 628 (62 606 (60 520 (52 50 users science health biology law anthropology education others http//fauna.jbrj.gov.br/ faunajbrjgovbr //fauna.jbrj.gov.br (http://fauna.jbrj.gov.br/ 201 8 202 13369 13 133,6 12513 12 125,1 82.3% (82.3 10200 10 00 102,0 7.69% 76 6 (7.69 1100 11,0 3,56 356 56 (3,5 2,29 229 29 (2,2 1,83 183 83 (1,8 1,44 144 44 (1,4 100 1,0 (8 62 (6 60 52 (5 5 http//fauna.jbrj.gov.br (http://fauna.jbrj.gov.br 20 1336 133, 1251 125, 82.3 (82. 1020 0 102, 7.69 (7.6 110 11, 3,5 35 (3, 2,2 22 (2, 1,8 18 (1, 1,4 14 4 ( 82. Abstract Salinization is one of the main pedogenetic processes occurring on the semiarid zone of the Weddel sea, like in Seymour Island, where salt-affected soils are widespread. This study aimed to investigate whether topography controls the distribution of salt-affected soils on Seymour Island, particularly with reference to the Lopez de Bertodano Formation. Chemical and physical results from 45 soil profiles were used, where morphometric variables were extracted. Descriptive statistical analysis, extraction of morphometric variables, cluster analysis and principal component analysis were carried out in this database. The separation of soils associated with the López de Bertodano Formation into two groups is explained by topographic atributes, and not by soil properties. Hence, the salts in soils have a geogenic origin, and despite differences in geological units, the uniform mineralogical composition of all Lopez de Bertodano Formation results in the widespread accumulation of salts in soils, influenced by the saline parent material and the semi-desert climate. Despite the lack of topographic control in the distribution of saline soils as a whole, geomorphology play a distinct role in the formation of secondary saline features, such as crusts, efflorescences, and columnar structures, or in salt composition of salts present in the soils. sea Island saltaffected affected 4 used extracted database atributes properties Hence origin units semidesert semi desert climate whole features crusts efflorescences structures

Abstract This research was conducted for the purpose to evaluate the contribution Giant petrels and Brown skuas nestings in the formation of ornithogenic soils by the phosphatization process in Harmony Point, Maritime Antarctic. Ten nests were selected to collect topsoil samples (0-20 cm), from 0 m up to 20 m away, with regular spacing of 2 m. The analysis of the samples included the physical, chemical, mineralogical and geochemical analyzes. Phosphate minerals were identified. The presence of high content of some trace elements, such as Zn, Cu and Sr is associated with the bird’s excrements. Total-P and bioavailable-P recorded higher levels. This result demonstrates the importance of the time factor in the bird’s nesting, as well as in the development of the soil in these soil-forming environment. Phosphatization in these areas is not restricted to the specific location of the nest, since high values of P have been identified at distances between 8 and 12 m, from de nest’s top. This suggests the transport of P rich solutions and phosphatized material along fractures by the freeze-thaw cycles, contributing to increase the geographical expression of this phenomenon in this ice-free area, consequently the development of soils and the establishment of vegetation. . ABSTRACT Understanding how weeds resist herbicides, their resistance mechanisms, and alternative control methods are crucial for managing herbicide-resistant weeds. This study aims to unravel the resistance mechanism of a Raphanus raphanistrum biotype to acetolactate synthase (ALS) inhibitors. To this end, dose-response studies, DNA sequencing, and metabolic pathway verification were conducted. ALS-inhibiting herbicides showed low efficacy in controlling this biotype, confirming cross-resistance. Sequencing of the ALS enzyme revealed the presence of the previously reported Try-574-Leu mutation, known to confer cross-resistance to this mode of action. However, the metabolization verification assay demonstrated that this mechanism did not contribute to the observed resistance. Chemical control studies with alternative herbicides yielded promising results, indicating the potential for effective management of the resistant biotype. Our findings showed that the wild radish biotype used exhibits cross-resistance to ALS-inhibiting herbicides due to the presence of the Try-574-Leu mutation in the target enzyme. Notably, herbicides with alternative mechanisms of action prove highly effective in controlling this resistant biotype, offering valuable options for weed management strategies. herbicideresistant herbicide (ALS inhibitors end doseresponse dose response sequencing conducted ALSinhibiting inhibiting crossresistance. crossresistance cross Try574Leu TryLeu Try 574 Leu However results Notably strategies 57 5

ABSTRACT: In the last decade, there has been a significant increase in the demand for small rodents such as hamsters, guinea pigs, rats, and mice to be kept as pets. Consequently, the veterinary care provided to these animals has also increased. The aim of this study was to describe gross, histopathological and immunohistochemical findings of 26 spontaneous neoplasms diagnosed in 25 pet rodents in Northeastern Brazil. A retrospective study was carried out from 2014 to 2022 in two veterinary diagnostic laboratories to identify cases of tumoriform lesions in these species. Hamsters represented the most frequent species in this study (60%, 15/25), followed by rats (28%, 7/25), guinea pigs (8%, 2/25), and mice (4%, 1/25), with a mean age of 17.63 months. The anatomical regions of the face/head and thoracic region were the most affected. The most affected tissues were the skin/subcutaneous/mucosal (65%, 15/26) and mammary gland (23%, 6/26). Eighteen different types of neoplasms were diagnosed, and T-cell lymphomas and mammary adenocarcinomas were the most diagnosed tumors, each corresponding to 12% (3/26) of the cases. Leiomyosarcoma, myxosarcoma and mammary adenocarcinoma metastases were also noted. Immunohistochemistry was essential for the diagnosis of certain malignant mesenchymal and round-cell neoplasms. Pet rodent neoplasms in Northeastern Brazil are common, especially in hamsters, and immunohistochemistry can be a useful tool for the definitive diagnosis of these tumors. ABSTRACT: The present study investigated Salmonella spp. in the feces of 200 foals up to one year of age (100 with clinical signs of diarrhea and 100 without clinical signs of diarrhea). Bacteriological culture, serotyping, antimicrobial susceptibility, and real-time PCR (qPCR SYBR® Green or a TaqMan®) for detecting the invA gene (with and without a selective pre-enrichment step in tetrathionate broth) were performed. Bacterial culture revealed 15% (n=30) of positive animals (21 animals with diarrhea and nine without diarrhea). Among the 30 isolates, 13 different serovars were identified: S. Infantis, S. Minnesota, S. I.4,5,12:i:-; S. Anatum, S. Cerro, S. Oranienburg, S. Braenderup, S. Give, S. Newport, S. IIIb 61:c:z35, S. 109:-:1.5, S. I.4.12:d:-, S. I.6.8:-:-. Multidrug resistance was found in 43.33% (n=13) of the isolates, with one isolate obtained from animals without diarrhea and 12 isolates from animals with diarrhea. All qPCR techniques used in the study classified more samples as positive for Salmonella spp. than the bacterial culture of feces. In addition, all qPCR techniques detected more positive animals in the diarrhea group than in the diarrhea-free group. The results confirm the utility of the qPCR method without the pre-enrichment step in tetrathionate as a rapid test for Salmonella spp. in carrier animals. In animals with clinical signs of diarrhea, it can be combined with bacterial culture (antimicrobial susceptibility testing and serotyping). The isolation of Salmonella spp. in nine animals without diarrhea confirms the importance of asymptomatic carrier animals in the epidemiology of the disease. The multidrug resistance observed highlights the importance of rational antimicrobial use in horses and adopting biosecurity protocols that are efficacious in controlling the spread of infections between animals and zoonotic transmission in farms.
Dentre esses 30 isolados, 13 sorovares diferentes foram identificados: S. Infantis, S. Minnesota, S. I.4,5,12:i:-; S. Anatum, S. Cerro, S. Oranienburg, S. Braenderup, S. Give, S. Newport, S. IIIb 61:c:z35, S. 109:-:1.5, S. I.4.12:d:-, S. I.6.8:-:-.

Abstract The objective of this work was to evaluate the temperament of Canchim calves using different methods, to compare these methods, and to determine the most suitable for commercial use. The temperament of 1,831 calves was evaluated at 15 days after weaning by visually analyzing movement, tension, breathing, vocalizing, and kicking. Measurements were taken at 10 and 20 s after the calf entered the scale. The reactivity score was determined electronically, and flight speed was measured after the calf left the scale. The results of the principal component analysis showed that the first component explained 40.27% of total variation. Positive correlations were found for tension at 10 and 20 s, movement at 10 and 20 s, and reactivity score, with correlation coefficients ranging from 0.60 to 0.88. Temperament and reactivity scores presented moderate correlations of 0.25 and 0.35, respectively, with flight speed. However, kicking had no correlation with any variable. No differences were observed for reactivity measured at 10 or 20 s. The visual evaluations of movement and tension or of reactivity through an electronic device can be used for temperament evaluation of Canchim calves.

Abstract Areas of high concentration of seal carcasses have been observed in localized areas of James Ross Island, Antarctica. Such carcasses show an unusual vegetation development, in a semi-arid area with bare soils under intense winds, high salinity and sandy texture. We investigated carcasses of seals around a lake in James Ross Island, with four different stages of decomposition, with three replicates: Seal (S01), with recently mummified carcasses; S02, with partially degraded carcasses; S03, with broken carcasses with partially degraded exposed bones, and S04, with completely broken, scattered skeletons. The vegetation showed a maximum degree of development in carcasses at stages S02 and S03, with the environment between the skin and the skeleton as the preferred place for vegetation establishment. The chemical alteration was greater with increasing carcass decomposition but reduced with the spreading and final decomposition of the bones, with anomalous values observed only in the vicinity of the carcasses. It is concluded that the presence of carcasses of seals, concentrated in wet places, even in a semi-desert climate, represent important oases of nutrients, with a combination of physical and chemical effects throughout the decomposition process that favor plant establishment and succession.

Abstract This study evaluated the technological viability of yogurt with the addition of green-banana biomass (Musa spp.) considering the resistant starch (BBV) as a potential prebiotic ingredient and texture agent. Four yogurt formulations were prepared: control; 3% BBV; 5% BBV; and 10% BBV. They were subjected to analysis of resistant starch, lactose, fat, total dry extract, defatted dry extract, moisture, ash, proteins, pH and titratable acidity; syneresis analysis, instrumental texture and instrumental color. All four formulations met the requirements of the identity and quality regulation for fermented milks regarding the physicochemical and microbiological parameters. In the instrumental color analysis, in all treatments with added BBV, darkening was observed after 21 days, with a reduction of a* coordinate and an increase of b* coordinate. In the instrumental texture analysis, the yogurt in the Control treatment had the highest firmness (0.430 N) at 21 days among these treatments. Among the treatments with added BBV, the yogurt with 5% added BBV showed the best results for increasing the viability of lactic bacteria. It was found that yogurt with added BBV is a promising alternative in the elaboration of functional dairy products, adding value to the banana production chain by reducing the green fruit waste.

ABSTRACT Salinity is one of the main problems faced by irrigated agriculture in the semiarid region, due to the osmotic effects and ion toxicity. These factors reflect negatively on the growth and development of plants, especially in the early stages of their development. The objective of the present study is to verify the quality of the water in the semi-arid and its effects on the attributes of the soil and on the culture of Moringa oleifera Lam., Through a bibliographic review. The quality of the water interferes in the chemical and physical attributes of the soil as well as in the seedling and plant, due to the accumulation of salts present in the solution, causing the increase in salinity and sodicity at levels not tolerant to most of the cultivated species. Existing studies indicate a tolerance for a salinity level of up to 2 dS. m-1, for the culture of Moringa oleifera Lam, above that there is a decrease in the development and growth of the plant. The use of saline water is more tolerant for crops than for humans, due to the defense mechanisms or separation of toxic and non-toxic components of plants. However, in both situations, proper use involves appropriate management that can separate the salts present in the solution or decrease their concentrations to levels acceptable for the crop, thus avoiding soil depletion with regard to the availability of water and nutrients for the plants. Conducting more research on the subject is essential, especially for regions where water quality is affected by climatic reasons such as semi-arid, enabling and subsidizing the cultivation of species in this region, which does not have a quality water supply, improving fixation and economic development of man in the region.
