ABSTRACT Polycultures are of great importance in conventional agriculture in the tropical zone, where they are a sustainable source of food production. In this study, the biomass distribution, crop yield and competition were determined in the maize and bean association. The total dry biomass accumulation of maize plants of the monoculture Simijaca SM(o) was higher than that of beans of monocultures cultivars Iraca IB(o) and Hunza HB(o). In monoculture, cultivar Iraca obtained the highest bean yields reaching 2744.0 kg ha-1 in the municipality of Gama, whereas cultivar Simijaca had the highest yields with a value of 7766.7 kg ha-1. In the association, the best environment was the municipality of Simijaca for the SMxIB treatment, which showed a total yield of 9767.5 kg ha-1. The total land equivalent ratio (LERt) was higher than 3.65, showing the advantage of this association. Additionally, the competitive ratio (CR) of the crops showed the high competition effect between maize and the two bean cultivars. The study generated new knowledge about the genetic resources of maize and climbing beans grown at the same time and in the same place, in the search for sustainable and resilient production.

ABSTRACT Black node disease is one of the most limiting biotic stresses affecting bean production in the Andean countries. The objective of the study was to evaluate the degree of resistance to Boeremia noackiana against genotypes of Phaseolus vulgaris, Phaseolus polyanthus, and their interspecific crosses using two disease evaluation methods (pathogenicity test in the greenhouse and in vitro) to contribute the generation knowledge towards the use of durable resistance. Black node disease severity was assessed using a descriptive scale and the leaf detached method under greenhouse and in-vitro conditions. The results of the study confirmed the isolate Ascochyta ASC 001 pathogenicity, allowing the different genotypes to be discriminated. A contrasting resistance response was confirmed for the two methodologies used to estimate severity. Accession G35575 (P. polyanthus) was the most resistant whereas NCB 226 (P. vulgaris) was the most susceptible. Regional cultivars Simijaca and Cabrera, together with Cargamanto Blanco and Bacata, showed fluctuations in their reaction to the disease from intermediate to susceptible. Resistance was confirmed in the interspecific crosses of the ASC series, which can be an alternative in breeding programs for durable resistance in common beans. The percent leaf area affected was identified as a variable that can be easily assessed, and the processing and analysis of digital images in vitro avoided the use of destructive sampling. This technique is a fast, useful, and economical tool for this type of studies, as it provides the possibility of accelerating the selection of genotypes with resistance.

Abstract Bean breeding programs have focused on the generation of early bush cultivars with higher yields, commercial acceptance and resistance to crop-limiting diseases. This study prioritized the nutritional quality in terms of iron (Fe) and zinc (Zn) content in bean grains grown in three high tropical environments. Two bush bean cultivars and five climbing bean cultivars were evaluated. The mineral content of the grains was determined with atomic absorption spectroscopy. The results indicated that the bush genotypes Bacatá and Bianca are biofortified with Fe and Zn and the climbing cultivar Sutagao is biofortified with Zn. Statistical differences were found between genotypes (G), environments (E) and GxE interactions. According to the AMMI stability value (ASV), the cultivars Sutagao, Bianca and Iraca were stable, whereas Bacatá, which was the one with the highest nutritional quality, was moderately stable. The Simijaca environment showed an adequate edaphic contribution to bean production with nutritional quality.

Resumen El maíz fresco, o grano tierno, es uno de los alimentos tradicionales más utilizados para el consumo humano en los países latinoamericanos, pero es perecedero y existen pocos estudios de técnicas de conservación para mejorar el uso del producto. El objetivo de este estudio fue evaluar la temperatura de almacenamiento, el tipo de empaque y la presencia de brácteas durante la conservación sobre la calidad del maíz en el período de postcosecha. Se cuantificaron los sólidos solubles totales, la acidez titulable, la firmeza, la pérdida de peso, la intensidad respiratoria y el color. Los resultados mostraron que la calidad se conservaba mejor a 4 °C, con una menor pérdida de peso, menor intensidad respiratoria, reducción de la acidez titulable y menor endurecimiento del grano. Asimismo, las mazorcas de maíz con 100% de brácteas y empaque mantuvieron mejor calidad que las mazorcas de maíz sin brácteas y sin empaque, lo que evidenció la importancia de la presencia de brácteas y empaque para conservar el maíz fresco.

Abstract Fresh corn, or tender kernels, is one of the more commonly used traditional foods for human consumption in Latin American countries. Still, it is perishable, and there are few studies of conservation techniques to improve product use. This study aimed to evaluate storage temperature, packaging type, and husk presence during preservation on the quality of corn in the postharvest period. Total soluble solids, titratable acidity, firmness, weight loss, respiration intensity, and color were quantified. The results showed that quality is better preserved at 4 °C, with lower weight loss, lower respiration intensity, reduced titratable acidity, and less grain hardening. Likewise, corn ears with 100% husk and packaging maintained better quality than corn ears without husk and packaging, which highlights the importance of husk presence and packaging for preserving fresh corn, such as corn on the cob.

RESUMEN En los últimos años, los cultivos de maíz (Zea mays L.) en el trópico frío colombiano localizados en el valle de Ubaté en Cundinamarca han sido afectados por una pudrición del tallo con incidencias hasta del 40%. A pesar de la importancia de esta enfermedad, no se ha realizado un diagnóstico preciso. El objetivo de este estudio fue determinar los agentes causales del volcamiento de maíz asociado a la pudrición del tallo en esta región productora y describir los síntomas de la enfermedad. Dos lotes con registro de pudrición de tallo en el municipio de Simijaca en el valle de Ubaté en julio de 2016 fueron sembrados con las variedades regionales Simijaca y Sogamoso. Las plantas fueron inspeccionadas aleatoriamente de forma mensual para describir los síntomas de la enfermedad y aislar el patógeno. Las especies de Fusarium aisladas fueron morfológicamente y molecularmente identificadas y se realizaron las pruebas de patogenicidad en maíz. La enfermedad fue detectada en estados tempranos de desarrollo de la planta como la combinación de clorosis, antocianosis de las hojas y enanismo de la planta; estos como los principales síntomas en las dos variedades de maíz evaluadas. La necrosis de cuello y nudos fue observada en cortes longitudinales del tallo y coloraciones púrpura en cuello, nudos y entrenudos de la planta fueron observados 90 d después de la siembra. Finalmente, el volcamiento ocurrió en cualquier estado fenológico del cultivo. Fusarium spp. fue aislado en todos los estados de desarrollo de la planta. Las especies de Fusarium fueron identificadas como F. graminearum perteneciente al complejo de especies Fusarium graminearum y F. subglutinans perteneciente al complejo de especies Fusarium fujikuroi, las cuales tienen las zonas de producción de clima frío como su nicho ecológico. Las pruebas de patogenicidad confirmaron a F. graminearum y F. subglutinans como los agentes causales de la pudrición del tallo en la variedad regional de maíz Simijaca en el valle de Ubaté en Cundinamarca.

ABSTRACT In recent years, corn (Zea mays L.) crops in the Colombian cold tropics located in the Ubaté valley in Cundinamarca have been affected by stalk rot with incidences up to 40%. Despite the importance of this disease, accurate diagnosis has not been conducted. The objectives of the study were to determine the causal agents of corn lodging associated with stalk rot in this corn-producing region and describe the symptoms of the disease. Two plots with stalk rot reported in the municipality of Simijaca in July 2016 were sown with the regional varieties Simijaca and Sogamoso. Plants were randomly inspected on a monthly basis for describing disease symptoms and isolating the pathogen. The Fusarium species isolated were morphologically and molecularly identified and pathogenicity tests were conducted. The disease was detected at early plant developmental stages with the combination of chlorosis, leaf anthocyanosis, and dwarfism as the main symptoms in the two corn varieties evaluated. Crown and node necrosis in longitudinal sections of the stalk and purple colorations in the crown, nodes and internodes of plants were observed 90 d after sowing. Finally, lodging occurred at any phenological stage of the crop. Fusarium spp. were isolated in all stages of plant development. Fusarium species were identified as F. graminearum in the Fusariumgra-minearum species complex and F. subglutinans in the Fusarium fujikuroi species complex, which have cold-climate production zones as their ecological niche. Pathogenicity tests confirmed F. graminearum and F. subglutinans as the causal agents of stalk rot in the regional corn variety Simijaca in the Ubate valley in Cundinamarca.

RESUMEN No se conocen materiales de fríjol común que sean resistentes a la enfermedad del nudo negro (Boeremia noackiana [Allesch.] Aveskamp, Gruyter & Verkley). Sin embargo, algunos estudios han reportado genotipos de fríjol común que exhiben una reacción intermedia a la enfermedad, pero estos materiales carecen de estabilidad para esta característica. El acervo genético secundario del fríjol (Phaseolus polyanthus Grenm.) ha sido evaluado desde 1995 en búsqueda de dicha resistencia. Esta población muestra una respuesta variada a la enfermedad, pero carece de las características comerciales del grano. El estudio se realizó durante 2017-2018 en Bogotá bajo condiciones de invernadero, a través de cruces interespecíficos de variedades comerciales de fríjol (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) en Colombia con genotipos resistentes de la población nudo negro de P. polyanthus de origen CIAT. Para realizar los cruces se siguió la técnica de hibridación con emasculación, tanto en cruces directos como recíprocos. La baja eficiencia en la viabilidad de cruces interespecíficos debido a aparentes problemas de compatibilidad genética citoplasmática ha sido reportada en diferentes investigaciones. Sin embargo, en este estudio la eficiencia del porcentaje de cruces interespecíficos viables aumentó significativamente en las poblaciones F1 y retrocruzamientos, llegando a 67%. Con las semillas obtenidas se conformaron poblaciones interespecíficas de Bacatá × ASC 160 y Bacatá × ASC 162, que constituyen el punto de partida de un programa de mejoramiento para resistencia a la enfermedad de nudo negro en fríjol común a partir de cultivares comerciales susceptibles.

ABSTRACT There are no known common bean materials that are resistant to the black node disease (Boeremia noackiana [Allesch.] Aveskamp, Gruyter & Verkley). However, some studies have reported common bean genotypes that exhibit an intermediate reaction to this disease, but these materials lack stability in this trait. The secondary gene pool for beans (Phaseolus polyanthus Grenm.)has been screened since 1995 for this resistance. This population shows a varied response to this disease but lacks the characteristics of commercial grains. The study was carried out during 2017-2018 in Bogota under greenhouse conditions with interspecific crosses of commercial bean varieties (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) in Colombia and resistant genotypes from the ASC population of P. polyanthus, CIAT origin. To carry out the crosses, the hybridization technique with emasculation was followed, both in direct and reciprocal crosses. Low-efficiency viability in interspecific crosses from cytoplasmic genetic compatibility problems has been reported in different studies. However, in this study, the efficiency of the percentage of viable interspecific crosses increased significantly in the F1 populations and backcrosses, reaching 67%. Interspecific populations of Bacata × ASC 160 and Bacata × ASC 162 were formed with the seeds, which constituted the starting point for a breeding program for resistance to the black node disease in common beans using susceptible commercial cultivars.

ABSTRACT The palm Elaeis oleifera from Taisha was first described in 1986, but remains a valuable genetic resource to be evaluated, as it may be important for obtaining high-yielding hybrid genotypes and good-quality oil. This research aimed to determine the attributes of Elaeis oleifera (O) Taisha, E. guineensis Jacq. (G), their hybrids (O × G) and backcrosses [(O × G) × G = Bc], regarding leaf, stipe and pollen parameters, to expand the potential knowledge toward the obtention of interspecific hybrids that improve the crop competitiveness and sustainability. Contrasts were shown between both genotypes. E. oleifera showed a foliar emission of 1.67 leaves per month, when compared to a mean value of 2.37 leaves per month for O × G, Bc and E. guineensis. The leaf area of the leaf number 17 was 5.55 m2 for E. oleifera and 8.50 m2 in the other materials. Additionally, E. oleifera reached a shorter height and lower number of leaflets for the leaf 17 and stipe growth, in comparison to the other genotypes that showed vegetative hybrid vigor. Regarding pollen germination, E. oleifera and E. guineensis showed high percentages, whereas the hybrids obtained 14.26 % and Bc 62.47 %. Therefore, the introgression of genes from E. oleifera to E. guineensis for slow growth and smaller foliar area and from backcrosses for high pollen germination can be useful for selecting and obtaining high-yield improved hybrids and short and compact palms.

RESUMO A palmeira Elaeis oleifera de Taisha foi descrita pela primeira vez em 1986, mas continua sendo um valioso recurso genético a ser avaliado, pois pode ser importante para a obtenção de genótipos híbridos de alto rendimento e óleo de boa qualidade. Objetivou-se determinar os atributos de Elaeis oleifera (O) Taisha, E. guineensis Jacq. (G), seus híbridos (O × G) e retrocruzamentos [(O × G) × G = Bc], quanto aos parâmetros de folha, estipe e pólen, para ampliar o conhecimento potencial na obtenção de híbridos interespecíficos que melhorem a competitividade e sustentabilidade da cultura. Contrastes foram evidenciados entre os dois genótipos. E. oleifera apresentou emissão foliar de 1,67 folhas por mês, em comparação a um valor médio de 2,37 folhas por mês para O × G, Bc e E. guineensis. A área foliar da folha número 17 foi de 5,55 m2 em E. oleifera e 8,50 m2 nos demais materiais. Adicionalmente, E. oleifera atingiu menor altura e menor número de folíolos na folha 17 e crescimento do estipe, em relação aos demais genótipos que apresentaram vigor híbrido vegetativo. Quanto à germinação de pólen, E. oleifera e E. guineensis apresentaram altas porcentagens, enquanto os híbridos obtiveram 14,26 % e Bc 62,47 %. Portanto, a introgressão de genes de E. oleifera para E. guineensis para crescimento lento e menor área foliar e de retrocruzamentos para alta germinação de pólen podem ser úteis para selecionar e obter híbridos melhorados de alto rendimento e palmeiras curtas e compactas.

ABSTRACT In Colombia, peas are the second most important legume after the bean, and weeds are the main biotic factor that limits production, causing losses of up to 100%. Manual control can represent up to 40% of the labor force. The critical period in the crop-weed competition is the first third of the crop cycle; therefore, pre-emergent herbicide applications are a cost-effective way to control weeds. Common variables for assessing weed-control efficacy include, weed density (individuals/area), which is precise but time consuming, and weed coverage (%), which is faster but very subjective. Therefore, pre-emergence herbicides and a weed-control evaluation method that standardizes, facilitates, and provides greater precision are needed for peas cultivation and experimentation. Five pre-emergent herbicides (linuron, S-metolachlor, metribuzine, oxifluorfen and pendimetalin) were evaluated at two doses in a greenhouse pea crop. Also, two methods (quantification process of multispectral images and conventional human visual) for assessing weed coverage and control efficacy were compared. The best herbicide treatment for the dry grain yield was metribuzine (2.36 t ha-1). Furthermore, the effectiveness of the weed control was 88% at 36 days after sowing, which is optimal. Finally, there was agreement between the weed assessment methods (human vs. machine). The intraclass correlation coefficient was over 0.95, which validates the use of machine quantification for weed coverage.

RESUMEN En Colombia, la arveja es la segunda leguminosa más importante en superficie después del frijol, y las malezas son el principal factor biótico que limita su producción, provocando pérdidas de hasta el 100%, y su control manual puede representar hasta el 40% de la mano de obra necesaria para su producción. El período crítico de competencia cultivo-malezas es el primer tercio del ciclo del cultivo, por lo tanto, la aplicación de herbicidas pre-emergentes es una forma rentable de control de malezas. Para evaluar la eficacia del control de malezas, las variables más comunes es la densidad de malezas (individuos/área): precisa, pero requiere mucho tiempo, o cobertura de malezas (%): más rápida, pero muy subjetiva. Por lo tanto, encontrar herbicidas preemergentes para arveja y un método de evaluación del control de malezas que estandarice, facilite y dé mayor precisión es una tarea imperativa. Se evaluaron cinco herbicidas preemergentes (linuron, S-metolachlor, metribuzine, oxifluorfen y pendimetalin) a dos dosis en un cultivo de arvejas bajo invernadero. Además, se compararon dos métodos diferentes para evaluar la cobertura de malezas y la eficacia del control (proceso de cuantificación de imágenes multiespectrales y estimación visual humana convencional). El mejor tratamiento herbicida para el rendimiento de grano seco fue la metribuzina (2,36 t ha-1). Además, la efectividad del control de malezas fue del 88% a los 36 días después de la siembra, lo que se considera óptimo. Finalmente, se encontró concordancia entre los métodos de evaluación de malezas (humano vs. máquina). El coeficiente de correlación intraclase fue superior a 0,95, lo que valida el uso de esta metodología de cuantificación de la cobertura de malezas.

ABSTRACT The Andean blueberry (Vaccinium meridionale Swartz), known locally as agraz, possess a high level of anthocyanins and antioxidants and represents a socio-economical, environmental, and cultural alternative in Colombia. However, a characterization of the agri-food system has been done, limiting strategies for its valorization. The objective of this study was to characterize the Localized Agri-food System (SYAL) of the Andean blueberry in the Occidente and Ricaurte provinces of the Boyaca Department of Colombia. Three analytical axes were used within the SYAL approach: territorial anchorage, activation processes, and links between product quality and territory. The farmer product circuit methodology was used to identify agents linked to the product commercialization chain in the territory, and their participation was estimated. Data treatment was performed with descriptive statistics and multivariate analysis, specifically principal component analysis for numerical variables and multiple correspondence analysis for categorical variables. A SYAL was evident in the early stages of consolidation, with exceptional adaptations to the biophysical conditions in the territory. Finally, four groups of actors were identified, where the main discriminating variable was membership in an organization of farmers, a determining condition for business competitiveness in the territory.

RESUMEN El agraz (Vaccinium meridionale Swartz) es una fruta considerada como alimento funcional por su contenido de antocianinas y antioxidantes, posee alto potencial de consumo y representa una alternativa en términos socio-económicos, ambientales y culturales para la población de Colombia. No obstante, no existe una caracterización del sistema agroalimentario, lo cual limita la puesta en marcha de estrategias para su valorización. El objetivo de este trabajo fue caracterizar el Sistema Agroalimentario Localizado (SIAL) de agraz de las provincias de Occidente y Ricaurte del departamento de Boyacá-Colombia. Para el efecto, se utilizaron tres ejes analíticos dentro del enfoque SIAL, a saber: el anclaje territorial, los procesos de activación y el vínculo entre la calidad del producto y el territorio. Para identificar los agentes que se vinculan a la cadena de comercialización del producto se empleó la metodología de Circuitos de productos de origen campesino y se calculó la participación del productor. El tratamiento de los datos se realizó con estadística descriptiva y análisis multivariado, específicamente análisis de componentes principales para variables numéricas, y análisis de correspondencia múltiple para las variables categóricas. Se evidenció un SIAL en estadios tempranos de consolidación con adaptaciones excepcionales a las condiciones biofísicas del territorio. Finalmente, se identificaron cuatro grupos de actores, siendo la principal variable discriminante el hecho de pertenecer a una organización de agraceros, siendo ésta la condición determinante sobre la competitividad empresarial en el territorio.

RESUMO Os cromossomos de Elaeis oleifera são semelhantes aos de E. guineensis, com pools genéticos próximos para a produção de híbridos interespecíficos O x G. A viabilidade e germinação do pólen de E. oleifera ‘Coarí’ e E. guineensis ‘La Mé’ foram comparadas com as de seu híbrido interespecífico O x G (‘Coarí’ x ‘La Mé’). A viabilidade do pólen foi determinada pelo método de coloração com acetocarmina (0,5 %) e a germinação por incubação in vitro, em meio ágar-sacarose (1,2-11,0 g em 100 mL de água destilada). A viabilidade e germinação de pólen do híbrido ‘Coarí’ x ‘La Mé’ foram significativamente menores do que as de seus progenitores. A porcentagem de viabilidade do pólen pela coloração com acetocarmina foi superior à germinação in vitro, indicando que nem todos os grãos de pólen classificados como viáveis germinaram no meio ágar-sacarose. O teste de germinação de pólen é um indicador mais confiável que o de viabilidade por coloração, pois este apenas revela que o pólen contém as enzimas necessárias para iniciar a germinação, enquanto o teste de germinação determina a emissão e desenvolvimento do tubo polínico.

ABSTRACT Elaeis oleifera chromosomes are similar to those of E. guineensis, with close gene pools for the production of interspecific O x G hybrids. The pollen viability and germination of E. oleifera ‘Coarí’ and E. guineensis ‘La Mé’ were compared to their interspecific hybrid O x G (‘Coarí’ x ‘La Mé’). The pollen viability was determined by the acetocarmine staining method (0.5 %) and the pollen germination by in vitro incubation on agar-sucrose medium (1.2-11.0 g in 100 mL of distilled water). The pollen viability and germination of the ‘Coarí’ x ‘La Mé’ hybrid were significantly lower than those of their parents. The percentage of pollen viability by acetocarmine staining was higher than that of in vitro germination, indicating that not all pollen grains classified as viable germinated on the agar-sucrose medium. The pollen germination test is a more reliable indicator than the staining viability test, because the latter only reveals that the pollen contains the enzymes necessary to initiate germination, while the germination test determines the emission and development of the pollen tube.

RESUMEN El banco de germoplasma del programa de mejoramiento de la Federación Nacional de Arroceros de Colombia, constituye una impor- tante reserva de recursos genéticos que deben explorarse para optimizar su uso. Este trabajo se desarrolló al buscar caracterizar las accesiones de la colección de trabajo utilizando 28 descrip- tores morfoagronómicos, 14 cualitativos y 14 cuantitativos. Se estudiaron 192 genotipos y 4 testigos bajo un diseño de bloques aumentados en 3 experimentos sembrados bajo el sistema de trasplante entre abril y mayo de 2015 en las localidades de Saldaña, Villavicencio y Monte- ría. Se emplearon 8 bloques con 28 genotipos cada uno, conformando 224 parcelas de 7,5 m2, por lo que alcanzó un área total de 1680 m2 por localidad. La distribución de las variables cuali- tativas reveló diferencias en su expresión en las localidades, excepto virus de hoja blanca estado vegetativo (VHBVg) en Montería. Asimismo, el análisis comparativo entre los datos ajustados y el promedio del mejor testigo por localidad para cada variable cuantitativa evidenció diferencias. Se identificaron accesiones de la colección con rasgos agronómicos sobresalientes para varia- bles fisiológicas como fortaleza de los tallos (FrTll), senescencia de la hoja (SnHj), excersión de panícula (ExPc), habilidad de macollamien- to (HbMc), vigor vegetativo (VVg); así como para variables relacionadas con el rendimiento y sus componentes, como rendimiento en grano (RnGr), número total de espiguillas por panícula (NmEsPn), número de espiguillas llenas por paní- cula (NmEsLlPn), longitud de panícula (LnPn) y peso de mil granos secos (PsMlGr); también para variables de calidad y apariencia de grano tales como longitud (LnGr) y ancho de grano (AnGr) y contenido de amilosa (CnAm). Tales materiales adquieren interés para uso potencial como proge- nitores en programas nacionales e internacionales de mejoramiento.

ABSTRACT Colombian Rice Growers Federation germplasm collection stores an important genetic resource that must be widely explored in order to use it efficiently in national rice breeding program activities. The aim of this study was to strictly characterize the work collection accessions using 28 morphoagronomic descriptors, 14 qualitative and 14 quantitative. 192 genotypes and 4 elite lines used as controls were studied in a field trial conducted under an augmented block design. Field experiments were carried out between April and May 2015 in Monteria, Saldaña and Villavicencio. At each site, total experimental area was 1680 m2 defined by 224 plots of 7,5 m2 distributed in 8 blocks with 28 genotypes each one. Qualitative variables distribution revealed differences in their expression across environments, except rice white leaf virus at vegetative state (VHBVg) in Montería. Likewise, for each quantitative trait, comparative analysis between adjusted data with block effect for rice accesions and the best control genotype showed differences at each location. Accessions of the collection were identified with outstanding agronomic performance for physiological traits such as stem strength (FrTll), leaf senescence (SnHj), panicle excersión (ExPc), tillering ability (HbMc), vegetative vigor (VVg). Differences were also observed for variables related to yield and its components, such as grain yield (RnGr), total number of spikelets per panicle (NmEsPn), number of spikelets filled per panicle (NmEsLlPn), panicle length (LnPn) and weight of a thousand dried grains (PsMlGr), as well as for grain quality and appearance traits such as length (LnGr), grain width (AnGr) and amylose content (CnAm). Such materials are of special interest for potential use as parents for national and international breeding programs.

RESUMEN Los híbridos OxG de palma de aceite (Elaeis oleifera x Elaeis guineensis) producen pocas inflorescencias masculinas con fase de antesis irregular lenta y polen de baja viabilidad afectando su polinización natural, lo cual hace necesaria la práctica agronómica de polinización asistida de las plantaciones para favorecer la formación de la mayoría de frutos del racimo. En los híbridos "Coarí x La Mé" y "(Sinú x Coarí) x La Mé" se estudió la influencia de varias dosis de polen (0, 0.01, 0.05, 0.1, 0.15 g/inflorescencia) sobre el peso del racimo, frutos normales y partenocárpicos, cuajado de frutos y potencial de aceite/ racimo. El diseño experimental utilizado fue completamente al azar, en arreglo factorial 2x5, donde el factor 1 fueron los dos híbridos y el factor 2 las dosis de polen, con cuatro repeticiones y nueve inflorescencias/repetición. El peso del racimo fue mayor con la dosis 0.05 g/inflorescencia y menor con la polinización natural. El mayor cuajado de frutos se obtuvo con dosis de 0.1 g/inflorescencia, y el porcentaje de aceite/racimo fue superior con 0.05 g/inflorescencia y menor con 0.01 g/inflorescencia. Los resultados confirman la necesidad de la polinización asistida en los híbridos OxG.

ABSTRACT OxG oil palm hybrids (Elaeis oleifera x Elaeis guineensis) produce a small number of male inflorescences, with an irregular, slow anthesis phase and low-viability pollen that affect natural pollination, making the agronomic practice of assisted pollination necessary for plantations in order to guarantee the formation of the majority of bunch fruits. In the hybrids "Coarí x La Mé" and "(Sinú x Coarí) x La Mé", the influence of several doses of pollen (0, 0.01, 0.05, 0.1, 0.15 g/inflorescence) on bunch weight, normal and parthenocarpic fruits, fruit set and oil/bunch potential was studied. A completely randomized experimental design was used with four replicates and nine inflorescences/replicate. The bunch weight was higher with the 0.05 g/inflorescence dose and lower with the natural pollination. The greatest fruit set was obtained with the dose of 0.1 g/inflorescence, and the oil/bunch percentage was higher with 0.05 g/inflorescence and lower with 0.01 g/inflorescence. The results confirm the need for assisted pollination in these new hybrid materials.

Resumen El objetivo de este estudio fue realizar un análisis comparativo de las características físicas y químicas de racimos de genotipos de Elaeis oleifera y de sus híbridos interespecíficos OxG con Elaeis guineensis, determinando los componentes y el potencial del aceite del racimo, y la calidad de los aceites, analizando el contenido de ácidos grasos, vitamina E y carotenos. En el estudio se utilizaron racimos provenientes de inflorescencias sin polinización asistida con la presencia perimetral de E. guineensis. Se utilizó un diseño experimental completamente al azar con tres unidades experimentales, cada una conformada por tres racimos. Los mayores cuajados del fruto se encontraron en el genotipo de E. oleifera Sinú (76,53 %) y el híbrido OxG II (72,64 %). Los potenciales de extracción de aceite fueron superiores en los materiales híbridos OxG destacándose el II (20,82 %). Las palmas E. oleifera presentaron mejores perfiles de ácidos grasos, destacándose los materiales del genotipo Sinú (79,1 % de ácidos grasos insaturados) y los del híbrido II (70,2 %). Para el contenido de vitamina E se confirmó la alta calidad del aceite de los materiales de E. oleifera, sobresaliendo el genotipo Coarí (1.006,7 ppm) y el híbrido II (1.549,6 ppm); el material del genotipo Sinú registró el mayor contenido de carotenos totales (1.524,7 ppm).

Abstract The aim of this study was to carry out a comparative analysis of physical and chemical traits of bunches from genotypes of Elaeis oleífera and their interspecific hybrids OxG with Elaeis guineensis, establishing values in bunch components and oil potential, as well as oil quality by analyzing fatty acids, vitamin E and carotenes content. Bunches stemmed from inflorescences without assisted pollination and perimeter presence of E. guineensis. The experimental design used, was a completely randomized experimental design with three experimental units, each comprised of three bunches. E. oleifera Sinú genotype (76.53 %) and OxG hybrid II (72.64 %) obtained the highest fruit set. Regarding oil extraction potential, values were higher in OxG hybrids, finding in hybrid II an outstanding value (20.82%). E. oleifera materials showed better fatty acids profiles with the Sinú genotype being the most prominent material with 79.1 % of unsaturated fatty acids, together with hybrid II (70.2 %). Regarding vitamin E content, we confirmed that E. oleifera possesses high quality oil especially for genotype Coarí (1,006.7 ppm) and hybrid II (1,549.6 ppm); furthermore, genotype Sinú was the one with the highest total carotene content (1,524.7 ppm).

RESUMEN Se estudió la colección del género Rubus compuesta por 31 entradas de accesiones nativas y cultivadas, existentes en el Banco de Germoplasma de Colombia, en su mayoría procedentes de departamentos productores de mora con el fin de estimar su variabilidad, mediante 38 descriptores entre cuantitativos y cualitativos en la descripción morfológica. Se encontró que las agrupaciones de accesiones coinciden con la determinación taxonómica convencional para especies del género Rubus; se confirma la accesión RG37 como un material intermedio a nivel morfológico entre la especie R. glaucus y las especies silvestres. Se estableció variabilidad fenotípica en los materiales Rubus y se identificaron agrupaciones dentro de R. glaucus que muestran algunas accesiones con mayor introgresión de características vegetativas de las accesiones silvestres y otras con características más adecuadas a la producción comercial, así como alguna interacción del departamento de origen en el comportamiento fenotípico de las entradas de R. glaucus.

ABSTRACT The present work studied the genus Rubus collection of Colombia; it consists of 31 entries of native and cultivated accessions mostly from different blackberry producer regions. In order to estimate genetic variability 38 quantitative and qualitative descriptors were used in morphologic description. At the morphological level, it was found that groups of accessions match with the conventional taxonomic determination species from the genus Rubus. RG37 accession was established as an intermediate material at the morphological level between species R. glaucus and some wild Rubus material. Morphological characterization also recognized phenotypic variability in Rubus materials and identified clusters within R. glaucus showing some accessions with higher closeness of vegetative characteristics from wild accessions. Additionally, it identified others which are better suited in commercial production, as well as some interactions of the region of origin in the phenotypic behavior of R. glaucus entries.

A partir de la prospección de recursos fitogenéticos de la familia Annonaceae en las Regiones Andina y Caribe colombiano, se conformó una población in situ de 167 accesiones de las especies: Annona cherimola, A. glabra, A. reticulata, A. squamosa, Rollinia sp. y del híbrido interespecífico A. squamosa x A. cherimola, distribuidas en 13 departamentos y 48 municipios. Las especies más representativas en la población son A. squamosa y A. reticulata, conformadas por cultivares tradicionales de centros poblados de un rango altitudinal variable hasta 1.021 msnm. La evaluación morfoagronómica se realizó en 98 accesiones a través de 25 descriptores cuantitativos y cualitativos, permitió identificar en A. squamosa y A. reticulata, que los rasgos fenotípicos que se relacionan con la calidad del fruto como tamaño, peso, simetría, grados Brix, pH, acidez, peso y número de semillas son los que diferencian los seis agrupamientos conformados para A. squamosa y los cuatro para A. reticulata.

An in situ collection composed of 167 accessions of the species Annona cherimola, A. glabra, A. reticulata, and A. squamosa, Rollinia sp., and the interspecific hybrid A. squamosa x A. cherimola was established through bioprospecting of genetics resources of the Annonaceae family in the Colombian Andean and Caribbean regions. These accessions were distributed in 13 departments and 48 municipalities. The most representative species of this collection are A. squamosa and A. reticulata, which are derived from traditional cultivars of populated centers with a variable altitude range of up to 1,021 m a.s.l. The morpho-agronomic evaluation was carried out on 98 accessions using 25 qualitative and quantitative descriptors, which identified the phenotypic traits in A. squamosa and A. reticulata that are related to fruit quality, such as size, weight, symmetry, degrees Brix, pH, acidity, seed weight and seed number, which are the more discriminating descriptors, differentiating six clusters in A. squamosa and four clusters in A. reticulata.
