Lantana caatingensis Moldenke (Verbenaceae) is an endemic plant from northeastern Brazil. However, its chemical composition is almost unknown. This study aimed to characterize the chemical compounds found in L. caatingensis and investigate the antileishmanial potential of its hydroalcoholic extract and polar fractions. Compounds present in the hydroalcoholic extract obtained from L. caatingensis leaves and its polar fractions (ethyl acetate and methanolic) were analyzed by liquid chromatography with a photodiode-array detector coupled to electrospray ionization quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry. An antileishmanial assay was performed in a 96-well plate against Leishmania major promastigotes using resazurin on a plate spectrophotometer and the results were expressed as percentage of growth inhibition. Nine compounds were determined in the investigated extract and fractions, classified as flavonoids, flavonoid C-glycosides and phenylethanoid glycosides. The antileishmanial activity revealed that the hydroalcoholic extract and the ethyl acetate fraction were active against L. major promastigotes with inhibitory concentration of 71.78 and 26.86 µg mL-1, respectively, while the methanolic fraction was inactive (478.40 µg mL-1). This is the first report on the chemical composition and antileishmanial activity of L. caatingensis extracts. These results contribute to further knowledge of species belonging to the Lantana genus. ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of moisture and drying temperature on the physical properties of macauba kernels. The experiment was set up in a split-plot design, with drying temperature (60 °C, 70 °C, 80 °C, and 90 °C) assigned to the plots and moisture (4.3%, 5.3%, 6.0%, 7.0%, and 8.9% b.u.) assigned to the subplots, in completely randomized design (CRD) with nine replications for the variables (Ci, E, Dg, Ap, S, ρu, ε, and ψ) and four replications for the variable ρa. During the drying process, the geometric diameter, sphericity, roundness, projected and surface area, apparent specific mass, and total porosity were evaluated. These variables were analyzed according to drying temperature and moisture. Reducing the misture of macauba kernels led to an increase in geometric diameter and projected and surface area and to a reduction in roundness. Increasing the drying temperature led to a reduction in geometric diameter, sphericity, roundness, and projected area and surface area. The linear model fitted well the geometric diameter, roundness, and projected area and surface area of the macauba kernels for all drying temperatures and moistures. The quadratic model fitted well the phenomena of sphericity, total porosity, and apparent specific mass and unit-specific mass. It was concluded that the physical characteristics of macauba kernels are affected by varying drying temperatures and moistures. RESUMO Objetivou-se avaliar a influência do teor de água e temperatura de secagem nas propriedades físicas de amêndoas de macaúba. O experimento foi instalado em esquema de parcela subdividida, tendo nas parcelas as temperaturas de secagem (60 °C, 70 °C, 80 °C e 90 °C) e nas subparcelas os teores de água (4,3%; 5,3%; 6,0%; 7,0% e 8,9% b.u.), no delineamento inteiramente casualizado (DIC), com nove repetições para as variáveis (Ci, E, Dg, Ap, S, ρu, ε e ψ) e quatro repetições para a variável ρa. Durante o processo de secagem foram avaliados o diâmetro geométrico, esfericidade, circularidade, área projetada e superficial, a massa específica aparente e a porosidade total. Estas variáveis foram analisadas em função da temperatura de secagem e do teor de água. A redução do teor de água das amêndoas de macaúba proporcionou aumento no diâmetro geométrico, na área projetada e superficial e redução na circularidade. O aumento na temperatura de secagem promoveu redução no diâmetro geométrico, esfericidade, circularidade, área projetada e superficial. O modelo linear representou satisfatoriamente o fenômeno de diâmetro geométrico, circularidade, área projetada e superficial das amêndoas de macaúba, para todas as temperaturas de secagem e teores de água. Já o modelo quadrático representou satisfatoriamente o fenômeno de esfericidade, porosidade total e massa específica aparente e unitária. Conclui-se que diferentes temperaturas de secagem e teores água afetam as características físicas das amêndoas de macaúba. Os dados, poderão subsidiar o dimensionamento de equipamentos para as principais operações de pós-colheita. In this study, nanostructured coatings of VN2/Fe3N/Fe4N are synthesized by Plasma Deposition (CCPD) using a vanadium cathodic cage and subject to cathodic and floating potential treatments. Microstructural and mechanical properties of coated SAE 1080 steel samples are investigated using X-ray Diffraction (XRD), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Vickers microhardness (HV), and surface roughness analysis. The coating produced under cathodic potential treatment exhibited a nitride-based microstructure (VN2, Fe3N, Fe4N), with surface morphology consisting of clusters of granular structures with varied particle sizes. The coating produced under floating potential predominantly exhibited the iron nitride phase (Fe3N) with a morphology composed of uniformly sized grains. Microhardness testing showed that both layers exhibited more excellent plastic deformation resistance than the substrate. Roughness measurements confirmed a more organized microstructure profile for the sample treated under floating potential. This study demonstrates that the CCPD-produced cathodic potential coating can be utilized in tribological applications. ABSTRACT The limited temporal completeness and taxonomic accuracy of species lists, made available in a traditional manner in scientific publications, has always represented a problem. These lists are invariably limited to a few taxonomic groups and do not represent up-to-date knowledge of all species and classifications. In this context, the Brazilian megadiverse fauna is no exception, and the Catálogo Taxonômico da Fauna do Brasil (CTFB) (http://fauna.jbrj.gov.br/), made public in 2015, represents a database on biodiversity anchored on a list of valid and expertly recognized scientific names of animals in Brazil. The CTFB is updated in near real time by a team of more than 800 specialists. By January 1, 2024, the CTFB compiled 133,691 nominal species, with 125,138 that were considered valid. Most of the valid species were arthropods (82.3%, with more than 102,000 species) and chordates (7.69%, with over 11,000 species). These taxa were followed by a cluster composed of Mollusca (3,567 species), Platyhelminthes (2,292 species), Annelida (1,833 species), and Nematoda (1,447 species). All remaining groups had less than 1,000 species reported in Brazil, with Cnidaria (831 species), Porifera (628 species), Rotifera (606 species), and Bryozoa (520 species) representing those with more than 500 species. Analysis of the CTFB database can facilitate and direct efforts towards the discovery of new species in Brazil, but it is also fundamental in providing the best available list of valid nominal species to users, including those in science, health, conservation efforts, and any initiative involving animals. ABSTRACT The Northeast region of Brazil is the primary producer of yellow passion fruit. In recent years, water scarcity has led passion fruit growers to use highly saline water for cultivation. Therefore, implementing technologies that alleviate the negative effects of salt stress on plants is a promising approach, particularly in semi-arid conditions. This study aimed to assess the efficacy of organomineral fertilizers in mitigating salt stress effects on chlorophyll-a fluorescence and gas exchange in ‘Guinezinho’ yellow passion fruit seedlings. The treatments were arranged in randomized blocks with four replicates and four seedlings per plot, following a 2 × 3 factorial design. The factors considered were irrigation using water with low (0.18 dS m-1) and high (4.0 dS m-1) electrical conductivity and three liquid organomineral attenuators (Codasal™, Aminoagro Raiz™, and a mixture of Codasal™ + Aminoagro Raiz™ at a 1:1 v/v ratio), applied through fertigation. Irrigation with water containing 4.0 dS m-1 electrical conductivity, combined with liquid fertilizers, resulted in increased substrate salinity, and reduced stomatal conductance in yellow passion fruit seedlings, particularly when Codasal™ was applied. RESUMO O Nordeste é a principal região produtora de frutos de maracujazeiro-amarelo no Brasil, que devido à escassez hídrica ocorrida nos últimos anos, os passifloricultores utilizam água de elevada concentração de sais para exploração da cultura. Dessa forma, o emprego de tecnologias que possibilite a atenuação do estresse salino às plantas é uma estratégia promissora nas condições de semiárido. Objetivou-se com o trabalho avaliar a ação de fertilizantes organominerais como atenuador do estresse salino sobre a fluorescência da clorofila a e trocas gasosas de mudas maracujazeiro-amarelo acesso ‘Guinezinho’. Os tratamentos foram distribuídos em blocos casualizados com quatro repetições e quatro mudas por parcela, empregando o esquema fatorial 2 × 3, referente às irrigação com água de baixa (0,18 dS m-1) e alta (4,00 dS m-1) condutividade elétrica e três atenuadores organomineral líquidos (Codasal®, Aminoagro Raiz® e mistura de Codasal® + Aminoagro Raiz® - proporção de 1/1 v/v), via fertirrigação. Abstract Objectives Evidence suggests that ketamine’s influence on brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) might be involved in its mechanism of rapid antidepressant action. We aimed to evaluate the differential impact of ketamine and esketamine on serum BDNF levels and its association with response patterns in treatment-resistant depression (TRD). Methods Participants (n = 53) are from a randomized, double-blind clinical trial comparing the efficacy of single-dose ketamine (0.5mg/kg, n = 27) and esketamine (0.25mg/kg, n = 26) in TRD. Depression severity was assessed before and 24 hours, 72 hours, and 7 days after the intervention, using the Montgomery-Åsberg Depression Rating Scale (MADRS). Blood samples were collected before infusion, 24 hours, and 7 days afterwards. Results There were no significant changes in BDNF levels at post-infusion evaluation points, and no difference in BDNF levels comparing ketamine and esketamine. Both drugs exhibited similar therapeutic effect. There was no association between BDNF levels and response to treatment or severity of depressive symptoms. Conclusion There was no significant treatment impact on BDNF serum levels – neither with ketamine nor esketamine – despite therapeutic response. These results suggest that ketamine or esketamine intervention for TRD has no impact on BDNF levels measured at 24 hours and 7 days after the infusion. ABSTRACT Objectives: Currently, not much is known about the interactions between voice and growth hormone (GH). We have described large kindred with isolated GH deficiency (IGHD) due to a GHRH receptor mutation, resulting in severe short stature and high-pitched voice. These IGHD individuals have little interest in GH treatment, as they consider themselves “short long-lived people”, rather than patients. Interestingly, they report normal general quality of life, but they rate their Voice-Related Quality of Life (V-RQOL) as low. Here, we assessed the social and auditory-perceptual impacts of artistic-intervention voice therapy with semioccluded vocal tract exercises (SOVTE) and choral singing, on their voices. Material and methods: Seventeen GH-naïve adult IGHD individuals were enrolled in a single-arm interventional pre-post study with 13 weekly sessions of choir singing over 90 days. Outcome measures were V-RQOL scores, self-assessment of voice, and auditory-perceptual analysis (GRBAS scale, G: grade of the severity of dysphonia; R: roughness; B: breathiness; A: asthenia; and S: strain). Results: Marked improvements in total (p = 0.0001), physical (p = 0.0002), and socioemotional (p = 0.0001) V-RQOL scores and in self-assessment of voice (p = 0.004) were found. The general grades of vocal deviation (p = 0.0001), roughness (p = 0.0001), breathiness (p = 0.0001) and strain (p = 0.0001) exhibited accentuated reductions. Conclusions: Voice therapy with semioccluded vocal tract exercises and choral training improved social impact and perceptual voice assessments in IGHD subjects and markedly improved their voice-related quality of life. This is particularly important in a setting where GH replacement therapy is not widely accepted.

Abstract Candida spp. are naturally opportunistic and can promote infections. These yeasts can form biofilm, after penetration and adhesion to the biotic or abiotic surfaces. Preexisting diseases, treatments with drugs and radiation therapy, medical procedures, and parafunctional habits favor the installation of a fungal infection. Increased resistance to the available antifungals has become a concern. Therefore, alternative methods to control them have been evaluated, including the use of plant substances. In this study, the antibiofilm effect of R. officinalis L. extract was analyzed on C. albicans, C. dubliniensis, C. glabrata, C. krusei, and C. tropicalis. A phytochemical analysis of the extract was performed. Biofilms were formed for 48 h and exposed to the different concentrations of the extract (50, 100, and 200 mg/mL) for 5 min or 24 h. The effect of the plant extract was compared to the antifungal nystatin. Rosmarinus officinalis L. extract was constituted of phenols and flavonoids, highlighting the presence of chlorogenic acid derivatives in its composition. Biofilm reductions were observed after exposure to the plant extract for both periods. The plant extract provided a reduction similar to the antifungal. Thus, R. officinalis L. extract showed antibiofilm effect on Candida spp. comparable to the nystatin.

Abstract For human/SARS-CoV-2 interactome genes ACE2, TMPRSS2 and BSG, there is a convincing evidence of association in Asians with influenza-induced SARS for TMPRSS2-rs2070788, tag-SNP of the eQTL rs383510. This case illustrates the importance of population genetics and of sequencing data in the design of genetic association studies in different human populations: the high linkage disequilibrium (LD) between rs2070788 and rs383510 is Asian-specific. Leveraging on a combination of genotyping and sequencing data for Native Americans (neglected in genetic studies), we show that while their frequencies of the Asian tag-SNP rs2070788 is, surprisingly, the highest worldwide, it is not in LD with the eQTL rs383510, that therefore, should be directly genotyped in genetic association studies of SARS in populations with Native American ancestry.

OBJECTIVES: To prospectively evaluate demographic, anthropometric and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in pediatric patients with laboratory-confirmed coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) METHODS: This was a longitudinal observational study of surviving pediatric post-COVID-19 patients (n=53) and pediatric subjects without laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 included as controls (n=52) was performed. RESULTS: The median duration between COVID-19 diagnosis (n=53) and follow-up was 4.4 months (0.8-10.7). Twenty-three of 53 (43%) patients reported at least one persistent symptom at the longitudinal follow-up visit and 12/53 (23%) had long COVID-19, with at least one symptom lasting for >12 weeks. The most frequently reported symptoms at the longitudinal follow-up visit were headache (19%), severe recurrent headache (9%), tiredness (9%), dyspnea (8%), and concentration difficulty (4%). At the longitudinal follow-up visit, the frequencies of anemia (11% versus 0%, p=0.030), lymphopenia (42% versus 18%, p=0.020), C-reactive protein level of >30 mg/L (35% versus 0%, p=0.0001), and D-dimer level of >1000 ng/mL (43% versus 6%, p=0.0004) significantly reduced compared with baseline values. Chest X-ray abnormalities (11% versus 2%, p=0.178) and cardiac alterations on echocardiogram (33% versus 22%, p=0.462) were similar at both visits. Comparison of characteristic data between patients with COVID-19 at the longitudinal follow-up visit and controls showed similar age (p=0.962), proportion of male sex (p=0.907), ethnicity (p=0.566), family minimum monthly wage (p=0.664), body mass index (p=0.601), and pediatric pre-existing chronic conditions (p=1.000). The Pediatric Quality of Live Inventory 4.0 scores, median physical score (69 [0-100] versus 81 [34-100], p=0.012), and school score (60 [15-100] versus 70 [15-95], p=0.028) were significantly lower in pediatric patients with COVID-19 at the longitudinal follow-up visit than in controls. CONCLUSIONS: Pediatric patients with COVID-19 showed a longitudinal impact on HRQoL parameters, particularly in physical/school domains, reinforcing the need for a prospective multidisciplinary approach for these patients. These data highlight the importance of closer monitoring of children and adolescents by the clinical team after COVID-19.

Abstract Nasal colonization with methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) have increasingly been reported in healthy communities. This study aimed to assess the rate of S. aureus in general and MRSA in particular from nasal secretion of children in daycare centers in Vitória da Conquista, Brazil. The isolates were identified based on morphology, biochemical tests and by PCR. Detection of virulence genes, biofilm production, and susceptibility test by disk diffusion agar were performed. MRSA isolates were characterized by spa, SCCmec, and multilocus sequence typing (MLST). S. aureus were recovered from 70 (47.3%) of 148 children. Among the 11 MRSA strains (15.7%), two SCCmec types (IV and V) were detected. MLST identified four STs related to three clonal complexes (CC): 5, 45, and 398. Four spa types were found circulating in this setting. Resistance of S. aureus isolates to ampicillin, erythromycin, ciprofloxacin, clindamycin, and tetracycline was 80%, 32.8%, 7.1%, 7.1% and 4.3%, respectively. One isolate presented intermediate resistance to vancomycin detected by Etest methodology. All strains were biofilm producers. The virulence genes seb, sec, spa, and pvl were detected in some isolates. This study revealed a high rate of children carrying MRSA among healthy attendees in daycare centers in Vitória da Conquista, Brazil.

RESUMO Para tornar a atividade cafeeira competitiva é utilizada, por alguns produtores, a cafeicultura de precisão. Desta forma é possível a criação de mapas temáticos que direcionam as práticas de manejo para as regiões em que há limitações para o desenvolvimento das plantas. Objetivou-se, neste trabalho, identificar a dependência espacial da produtividade de plantas de uma lavoura de café, em 2012 e 2013. A área experimental está localizada em um Latossolo Vermelho distrófico argiloso, em Três Pontas, Minas Gerais. Foram georreferenciados 100 pontos para a coleta dos dados da produtividade, por meio de derriça manual em pano. Também foi avaliada a diferença da produtividade entre as safras. Os dados foram processados por meio de análise geoestatística. Foi possível identificar e caracterizar a dependência espacial das duas safras, bem como a criação dos mapas de isolinhas. Observaram-se diferenças entre os mapas de 2012 e 2013 devido ao ciclo fenológico bienal do café, o que pode ser confirmado pelo mapa da diferença entre as safras. Recomenda-se um manejo da lavoura que considere a variabilidade espacial da produtividade, para maior retorno econômico.
ABSTRACT To make the coffee activity competitive, some farmers use precision coffee farming. Thus, it is possible to create thematic maps that guide management practices for regions where there are limitation for the plant development. The objective of this study was to identify the spatial dependence of coffee crop yield, in 2012 and 2013. The experimental area is located in a Haplustox in Três Pontas, Minas Gerais. One hundred sampling points were georeferenced for the collection of yield data through manual harvest. The difference of yield between crop seasons was also evaluated. Data were processed using geostatistical analysis. It was possible to identify and characterize the spatial dependence of all variables, as well as to create contour maps. There were differences between the 2012 and 2013 maps, due to the biennial coffee phenological cycle, which can be confirmed by the map of the difference between the crop seasons. It is recommended a crop management that considers the spatial variability of yield for greater economic return.

Resumo Um levantamento atualizado das plantas com sementes e análises relevantes acerca desta biodiversidade são apresentados. Este trabalho se iniciou em 2010 com a publicação do Catálogo de Plantas e Fungos e, desde então vem sendo atualizado por mais de 430 especialistas trabalhando online. O Brasil abriga atualmente 32.086 espécies nativas de Angiospermas e 23 espécies nativas de Gimnospermas e estes novos dados mostram um aumento de 3% da riqueza em relação a 2010. A Amazônia é o Domínio Fitogeográfico com o maior número de espécies de Gimnospermas, enquanto que a Floresta Atlântica possui a maior riqueza de Angiospermas. Houve um crescimento considerável no número de espécies e nas taxas de endemismo para a maioria dos Domínios (Caatinga, Cerrado, Floresta Atlântica, Pampa e Pantanal), com exceção da Amazônia que apresentou uma diminuição de 2,5% de endemicidade. Entretanto, a maior parte das plantas com sementes que ocorrem no Brasil (57,4%) é endêmica deste território. A proporção de formas de vida varia de acordo com os diferentes Domínios: árvores são mais expressivas na Amazônia e Floresta Atlântica do que nos outros biomas, ervas são dominantes no Pampa e as lianas apresentam riqueza expressiva na Amazônia, Floresta Atlântica e Pantanal. Este trabalho não só quantifica a biodiversidade brasileira, mas também indica as lacunas de conhecimento e o desafio a ser enfrentado para a conservação desta flora.
Abstract An updated inventory of Brazilian seed plants is presented and offers important insights into the country's biodiversity. This work started in 2010, with the publication of the Plants and Fungi Catalogue, and has been updated since by more than 430 specialists working online. Brazil is home to 32,086 native Angiosperms and 23 native Gymnosperms, showing an increase of 3% in its species richness in relation to 2010. The Amazon Rainforest is the richest Brazilian biome for Gymnosperms, while the Atlantic Rainforest is the richest one for Angiosperms. There was a considerable increment in the number of species and endemism rates for biomes, except for the Amazon that showed a decrease of 2.5% of recorded endemics. However, well over half of Brazillian seed plant species (57.4%) is endemic to this territory. The proportion of life-forms varies among different biomes: trees are more expressive in the Amazon and Atlantic Rainforest biomes while herbs predominate in the Pampa, and lianas are more expressive in the Amazon, Atlantic Rainforest, and Pantanal. This compilation serves not only to quantify Brazilian biodiversity, but also to highlight areas where there information is lacking and to provide a framework for the challenge faced in conserving Brazil's unique and diverse flora.

Resumo: Cinquenta e cinco bursas de Fabricius (BF) foram avaliadas através da microscopia óptica por três diferentes histopatologistas aviários (H1, H3 e H4) para determinar o grau de depleção linfóide. Um histopatologista avaliou as amostras em dois momentos distintos (H1 e H2) com quatro meses de intervalo entre as observações. As mesmas BF foram avaliadas utilizando-se o sistema de Avaliação Digital da Depleção Linfocitária (ADDL), sendo realizadas por três diferentes operadores do sistema, não histopatologistas. Os resultados mostraram diferenças significativas entre os histopatologistas e entre um mesmo histopatologista (H1 e H2). Contudo, não houve diferenças significativas entre os escores obtidos utilizando-se ADDL. Estes resultados caracterizam a fragilidade da classificação subjetiva em escores de depleção linfóide, enquanto o sistema ADDL prova ser um sistema robusto de avaliação da perda linfocitária na BF.
Abstract: Fifty-five bursa of Fabricius (BF) were evaluated by optical microscopy for three different avian histopathologists (H1, H3 and H4) to determine the degree of lymphoid depletion. One histologist evaluated the same slides at two different times (H1 and H2) with four-months interval between the observations. The same BFs were evaluated using the system of Digital Lymphocyte Depletion Evaluation (ADDL), being performed by three differents operators of the system, not histopathologists. The results showed was a significant difference between the histopathologists and between the scores established by the same expert (H1 and H2). However, there were not significant differences between the scores with the ADDL system, obtained using ADDL. The results make clear the fragility of the subjective lymphocyte depletion score classification by the traditional histologic method, while the ADDL system proves to be more appropriated for the assessment of the lymphoid loss in the BF.

Perfil volátil e potencial fungitóxico do hidrolato e extrato de sementes e folhas de Schinus terebinthifolius Raddi

A antracnose é a principal doença pós-colheita em frutos de goiabeira e visando reduzir o uso de agroquímicos tem-se investido em métodos alternativos de controle desta doença. O estudo teve como objetivo avaliar o rendimento da produção e a caracterização química de hidrolato e extratos provenientes de folhas e sementes de aroeira (Schinus terebinthifolius Raddi) em diferentes tempos de destilação. O trabalho inclui ainda a avaliação, in vitro, do potencial inibitório do fungo Colletotrichum gloeosporioides. O hidrolato e o extrato foram obtidos pelo método de hidrodestilação realizado em aparato de Clevenger e a determinação do perfil fotoquimico foi realizado por meio de cromatografia gasosa. Os ensaios com o fungo foram realizados a partir da adição dos subprodutos ao meio de cultura BDA em placas de Petri com 6 concentrações de extrato aquoso (5; 10; 15; 20; 25 e 30%) e 4 de hidrolato (10; 15; 20 e 25%) acondicionadas em câmara a 25 ºC. Os resultados mostraram que as folhas de S. terebinthifolius proporcionaram maior volume de hidrolato quando comparadas às de sementes, porém o rendimento de extrato aquoso foi semelhante para as duas estruturas vegetais estudadas. O tempo de hidrodestilação não exerceu influência no rendimento dos subprodutos. As análises cromatográficas não detectaram compostos presentes no hidrolato de aroeira. No ensaio in vitro de inibição do fungo, o extrato aquoso e hidrolato, em todas as concentrações testadas, não apresentaram potencial fungitóxico para o C. gloeosporioides, agente causador da antracnose em goiabas.
Anthracnose is the major disease seen post-harvest in the fruit of the guava, and with an aim to reducing the use of agrochemicals, there has been investment in alternative methods of controlling this disease. This study had as its objective to evaluate the yield and chemical characterisation of the hydrolate and leaf and seed extracts of the mastic tree (Schinus terebinthifolius Raddi) for different distillation times. The work also includes evaluating the in vitro inhibitory potential to the fungus Colletotrichum gloeosporioides. The hydrolate and the extract were obtained by hydrodistillation using a Clevenger apparatus, and the photochemical profile was determined by means of gas chromatography. Trials with the fungus were carried out by the addition of the by-products to a PDA culture medium in Petri dishes, with 6 concentrations of aqueous extract (5, 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30%) and 4 of hydrolate (10, 15, 20 and 25%), placed in a chamber at 25ºC. The results demonstrated that the leaves of S. terebinthifolius provide a greater volume of hydrolate when compared to that from the seeds, but the yield of aqueous extract was similar for the two plant structures under study. The period of hydrodistillation had no influence on the production of by-products. The chromatographic analyses did not detect compounds in the hydrolate of the mastic tree. For the in vitro trials of fungus inhibition, at all the concentrations under test neither the aqueous extract nor the hydrolate demonstrated antifungal potential for C. gloeosporioides, the causal agent of anthracnose in the guava.
