ABSTRACT Immunocompromised individuals were considered high-risk for severe disease due to SARS COV-2 infection. This study aimed to describe the safety of two doses of COVID-19 adsorbed inactivated vaccine (CoronaVac; Sinovac/Butantan), followed by additional doses of mRNA BNT162b2 (Pfizer/BioNTech) in immunocompromised (IC) adults, compared to immunocompetent/healthy (H) individuals. This phase 4, multicenter, open label study included solid organ transplant and hematopoietic stem cell transplant recipients, cancer patients and people with inborn errors of immunity with defects in antibody production, rheumatic, end-stage chronic kidney or liver disease, who were enrolled in the IC group. Participants received two doses of CoronaVac and additional doses of mRNA BNT162b2. Adverse reactions (AR) data were collected within seven days after each vaccination. Serious adverse events and of special interest (AESI) were monitored throughout the study. We included 241 immunocompromised and 100 immunocompetent subjects. Arthralgia, fatigue, myalgia, and nausea were more frequent in the IC group after CoronaVac. Following the first additional dose of mRNA BNT162, pain, induration, and tenderness at injection site, fatigue and myalgia were more frequent in the H group. A heart transplant recipient had a graft rejection temporally associated with the second CoronaVac dose, but there was no literature evidence of causal association. Four cases of AESI were considered related to the vaccine: three erythema multiforme after CoronaVac, all in IC participants, and one paresthesia after mRNA, in a H participant. Our findings were comparable to other studies that evaluated the safety of COVID-19 vaccines in different immunocompromised populations. Both vaccines were safe for immunocompromised participants.

ABSTRACT Soil saturated hydraulic conductivity (Ksat) and steady-state infiltration rate (SSIR) are essential and necessary soil properties for different geoscience applications. Values of these hydraulic properties for the Brazilian territory are difficult to access and are dispersed in research efforts carried out around the country. This study developed an easy-to-manipulate, freely accessible database of soil saturated hydraulic conductivity, comprising field and laboratory analyses, and steady-state infiltration rates for Brazilian soils. This database was named Ksat-SSIR-DB. One analysis of the Ksat-SSIR-DB aimed to evaluate its coverage in Brazilian territory and in different soil groups. Average values of these hydraulic properties were also presented for textural classes, with values compared to those reported in international literature, and for other groupings, such as soil class, land use class, and porosity class. The variability of Ksat data in these groupings and in their combinations were also analyzed. The Ksat-SSIR-DB showed broad national coverage, comprising a total of 2,579 records, corresponding to 409 sampling sites, with Ksat and/or SSIR data and other associated soil information. A significant difference was observed between Ksat values for the vast majority of Brazilian clayey and very clayey soils compared to soils from the same textural groups from temperate regions. The two groupings that presented the lowest variability in terms of Ksat standard deviation values were the combination of textural classes with soil classes at the second category level of SiBCS (Brazilian Soil Classification System), and porosity classes with soil classes at the second category level of SiBCS. The Ksat-SSIR-DB has enormous potential for developing and testing Ksat pedotransfer functions in Brazilian soils, serving as a reference source for different geoenvironmental applications and, in particular, for modeling land surface processes. It is open access and can be accessed at https://www.sgb.gov.br/ksat-ssir-dbbase-de-dados-de-condutividade-hidraulica-saturada-e-de-taxa-de-infiltracao-basica-emsolos-brasileiros, which also includes the python script for data analysis.

Abstract Objectives To investigate the validity evidence of the Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scale (DASS-21) and to analyze the prevalence of depression, anxiety, and stress symptoms in a sample of Brazilian nursing workers. Methods This was a cross-sectional study with non-probability convenience sampling. A total of 4053 Brazilian nursing workers participated in the study. The psychometric properties of DASS-21 were assessed by analysis of the validity based on the internal structure (factorial, convergent, and discriminant construct validity, invariance of the factorial model, and reliability); relationships with external measures (positive and negative convergent validity of the depression, anxiety, and stress factors with the emotional impairment, job satisfaction, and individual and occupational variables); and response process of the items (analysis of the differential item functioning in distinct subgroups). Data reliability was certified by estimating the ordinal alpha coefficient and the composite reliability. The prevalence of depression, anxiety, and stress symptoms was estimated based on recommendations from the original authors of DASS-21. Results During validation of the internal structure, the confirmatory factor analysis showed that the fit of the sample to the original DASS-21 model was adequate and the strong measurement invariance of the model was confirmed in different groups. Analysis based on external measures showed that the depression, anxiety, and stress factors had positive and moderate-strong correlations with the emotional impairment domain and negative and moderate correlations with the job satisfaction construct. Analysis of the pattern of response to items confirmed the uniformity and stability of the instrument for the sample. Regarding symptoms, the high prevalence of extremely severe levels of depression, anxiety, and stress was highlighted among participants. Conclusion DASS-21 presented adequate validity and reliability to assess depression, anxiety, and stress symptoms among Brazilian nursing workers.

Abstract To date, hydroxyurea is the only effective and safe drug that significantly reduces morbidity and mortality of individuals with Sickle cell disease. Twenty years of real-life experience has demonstrated that hydroxyurea reduces pain attacks, vaso-occlusive events, including acute chest syndrome, the number and duration of hospitalizations and the need for transfusion. The therapeutic success of hydroxyurea is directly linked to access to the drug, the dose used and adherence to treatment which, in part, is correlated to the availability of hydroxyurea. This consensus aims to reduce the number of mandatory exams needed to access the drug, prioritizing the requesting physician's report, without affecting patient safety. date disease reallife real life attacks vasoocclusive vaso occlusive events syndrome transfusion which part physicians physician s report safety

ABSTRACT Endophytic microorganisms in lettuce plants have received little attention for their potential biological control of phytopathogens. This study aimed to isolate, identify, and select endophytic bacteria from lettuce seedlings cv. Brava and Creta, antagonistic to the phytopathogenic fungus Alternaria sp. (ALT23) in culture media through direct interaction. The experimental design was completely randomized in an 11 x 2 factorial scheme, with 11 treatments [Control - ALT23 and 10 previously selected bacterial isolates] and two evaluation periods (the 5th and 8th day after inoculation) with four replications each. The 16S rDNA gene sequences of the isolates revealed a high similarity with Bacillus tequilensis KCTC 13622, B. subtilis NCIB 3610, B. velezenzis CR-502, B. siamensis KCTC 13613, and Paenibacillus polymyxa ATCC 842. The selected bacterial isolates reduced ALT23 mycelial diameter (46.2-65.3%) and rate (51.8-91.6%). We conclude that endophytic bacterial isolates with antagonistic potential against phytopathogens must be selected after more than five days of cultivation in a culture medium, as longer cultivation times favor endophyte inhibitory activity. isolate identify cv Creta sp ALT (ALT23 interaction 1 scheme Control ALT2 th inoculation each S 13622 B 3610 CR502, CR502 CR 502, 502 CR-502 13613 842 46.265.3% 462653 46.2 65.3% 46 65 3 (46.2-65.3% 51.891.6%. 518916 51.8 91.6% . 51 8 91 6 (51.8-91.6%) medium activity (ALT2 1362 361 CR50 50 CR-50 1361 84 265 46.265.3 46265 462 46. 653 65.3 4 (46.2-65.3 891 51.891.6% 51891 518 51. 916 91.6 5 9 (51.8-91.6% (ALT 136 36 CR5 CR-5 26 46.265. 4626 65. SUMMARY OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to evaluate the prevalence and risk factors related to metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease in inflammatory bowel disease patients. METHODS: This is a cross-sectional study conducted on adults with inflammatory bowel disease from 2019 to 2021. Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease encompasses patients with steatosis and at least one cardiometabolic risk factor. Patients with alcohol consumption ≥20 g/day, chronic liver diseases, or methotrexate use were excluded. RESULTS: Almost 140 patients were included: 67.1% were female, with a mean age of 49.7±13.7 years, and 63.6% had Crohn's disease. The mean duration of inflammatory bowel disease was 9.7±7.9 years. Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease was observed in 44.3% and advanced liver fibrosis was excluded in 63.5% by Fibrosis-4. Patients with metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease were older (p = 0.003) and had a higher number of metabolic syndrome components (2.9±1.1 versus 1.6±1.0; p<0.001), greater abdominal circumference (p<0.001), and body mass index (p<0.001). The only factor related to inflammatory bowel disease associated with metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease was disease duration (11.6±9.5 versus 8.3±6.2; p = 0.017). A higher number of metabolic syndrome components and obesity increase by 2.2 times and an altered waist circumference by 2.6 times the occurrence of metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease. CONCLUSION: A high prevalence of metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease was observed in patients with inflammatory bowel disease, with the main risk factors being associated with metabolic syndrome predicting it, but not with inflammatory bowel disease features and/or its treatment. ABSTRACT In 2000, Cleide Costa published a paper presenting the state of knowledge of the Neotropical Coleopte ra, with a focus on the Brazilian fauna. Twenty-four years later, thanks to the development of the Coleoptera section of the Taxonomic Catalog of the Brazilian Fauna (CTFB - Catálogo Taxonômico da Fauna do Brasil) through the collaboration of 100 coleopterists from all over the globe, we can build on Costa’s work and present an updated overview of the state of knowledge of the beetles from Brazil. There are currently 35,699 species in 4,958 genera and 116 families known to occur in the country, including representatives of all extant suborders and superfamilies. Our data show that the Brazilian beetle fauna is the richest on the planet, concentrating 9% of the world species diversity, with some estimates accounting to up to 15% of the global total. The most diverse family in numbers of genera is Cerambycidae (1,056 genera), while in number of species it is Chrysomelidae (6,079 species). Conotrachelus Dejean, 1835 (Curculionidae) is the most species-rich genus, with 570 species. The French entomologist Maurice Pic is the author who has contributed the most to the naming of species recorded from Brazil, with 1,794 valid names in 36 families, whereas the Brazilians Ubirajara R. Martins and Maria Helena M. Galileo are the only ones among the top-ten authors to have named species in the 21st century. Currently, approximately 144 new species of Brazilian beetles are described each year, and this average is projected to increase in the next decade to 180 species per year, or about one new Brazilian beetle every two days. 2000 ra Twentyfour Twenty four later CTFB Brasil 10 globe Costas s Brazil 35699 35 699 35,69 4958 4 958 4,95 11 country superfamilies planet 9 diversity 15 total 1,056 1056 1 056 (1,05 genera, , genera) 6,079 6079 6 079 (6,07 . species) Dejean 183 Curculionidae (Curculionidae speciesrich rich genus 57 1794 794 1,79 3 R M topten top ten st century Currently 14 year 18 days 200 3569 69 35,6 495 95 4,9 1,05 105 05 (1,0 6,07 607 07 (6,0 5 179 79 1,7 20 356 35, 49 4, 1,0 0 (1, 6,0 60 (6, 17 7 1, 2 (1 6, (6 (

ABSTRACT Objective To estimate hepatitis A vaccination coverage in 24-month-old children and identify factors associated with non-vaccination. Methods This was a survey involving a sample stratified by socioeconomic strata in capital cities (2020-2022), with coverage estimates and 95% confidence intervals (95%CI), the factor analysis was performed using the prevalence ratio (PR) by means of Poisson regression. Results Among 31,001 children, hepatitis A coverage was 88.1% (95%CI 86.8;89.2). Regarding socioeconomic strata (A/B), the variable immigrant parents/guardians was associated with non-vaccination (PR = 1.91; 95%CI 1.09;3.37); in strata C/D, children of Asian race/skin color (PR = 4.69; 95%CI 2.30;9.57), fourth-born child or later (PR = 1.68; 95%CI 1.06;2 .66), not attending daycare/nursery (PR = 1.67; 95%CI 1.24;2.24) and mother with paid work (PR = 1.42; 95%CI 1.16;1.74) were associated with non-vaccination. Conclusion Hepatitis A coverage was below the target (95%), suggesting that specificities of social strata should be taken into consideration.

ABSTRACT Objectives: To assess the molecular profile of follicular cell-derived thyroid carcinomas (FCDTCs) and correlate the identified mutations with the clinical and pathological features of the affected patients. Materials and methods: Cross-sectional study of tumor samples from 100 adult patients diagnosed with FCDTC between 2010 and 2019. The patients’ clinical and pathological data were collected. Genomic DNA was extracted from formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded (FFPE) tumors using the ReliaPrep FFPE gDNA Miniprep System. Genotyping of target genomic regions (KRAS, NRAS, BRAF, EGFR, and PIK3CA) was performed using the AmpliSeq panel, while sequencing was performed on the iSeq 100 platform. Results: The patients’ mean age was 39 years. In all, 82% of the tumors were classic papillary thyroid carcinomas. Overall, 54 (54%) tumor samples yielded satisfactory results on next-generation sequencing (NGS), of which 31 harbored mutations. BRAF gene mutations were the most frequent, with the BRAFV600E mutation present in 10 tumors. Seven tumors had BRAFNON-V600E mutations not previously described in FCDTCs (G464E, G464R, G466E, S467L, G469E, G596D, and the T599Ifs*10 deletion) but described in other types of cancer (i.e., skin/melanoma, lung, colorectal, and others). One tumor had a previously reported BRAFA598V mutation. EGFR gene mutations were found in 16 (29%) and KRAS or NRAS alterations in 8 (14%) of the 54 tumors analyzed. Conclusion: We described herein seven non-hotspot/novel variants in the BRAF gene, highlighting their potential role in expanding our understanding of FCDTC genetics. 2 20202022, 20202022 2020 2022 , (2020-2022) 95 IC95 IC RP Poisson 31001 31 001 31.00 881 88 1 88,1 (IC95 86,889,2. 868892 86,8 89,2 . 86 8 89 86,8;89,2) A/B, AB A/B B (A/B) paisresponsáveis pais responsáveis 1,91 191 91 1,093,37 109337 1,09 3,37 09 3 37 1,09;3,37) CD C D C/D 4,69 469 4 69 2,309,57, 230957 2,30 9,57 30 9 57 2,30;9,57) ª 1,68 168 68 1,062,66, 106266 1,06 2,66 06 66 1,06;2,66) crecheberçário creche berçário 1,67 167 67 1,242,24 124224 1,24 2,24 1,24;2,24 1,42 142 42 1,161,74 116174 1,16 1,74 16 74 1,16;1,74 95%, (95%) sugerindose sugerindo se sociais 2020202 202 (2020-2022 IC9 3100 00 31.0 88, (IC9 889 86,889,2 86889 868 86, 892 89, 86,8;89,2 (A/B 1,9 19 093 1,093,3 10933 109 1,0 337 3,3 0 1,09;3,37 4,6 46 6 309 2,309,57 23095 230 2,3 957 9,5 5 2,30;9,57 1,6 062 1,062,66 10626 106 266 2,6 1,06;2,66 242 1,242,2 12422 124 1,2 224 2,2 1,24;2,2 1,4 14 161 1,161,7 11617 116 1,1 174 1,7 7 1,16;1,7 (95% 202020 20 (2020-202 310 31. 24monthold monthold 24 month old nonvaccination. nonvaccination non vaccination. 20202022, 20202022 2020 2022 , (2020-2022) 95 95%CI, 95CI CI (95%CI) PR regression 31001 31 001 31,00 881 88 1 88.1 86.889.2. 868892 86.8 89.2 . 86 8 89 2 86.8;89.2) A/B, AB A/B B (A/B) parentsguardians parents guardians 1.91 191 91 1.093.37 109337 1.09 3.37 09 3 37 1.09;3.37) CD C D C/D raceskin race skin 4.69 469 4 69 2.309.57, 230957 2.30 9.57 30 9 57 2.30;9.57) fourthborn fourth born 1.68 168 68 1.062 1062 1.06 06 1.06; .66, 66 .66 .66) daycarenursery daycare nursery 1.67 167 67 1.242.24 124224 1.24 2.24 1.24;2.24 1.42 142 42 1.161.74 116174 1.16 1.74 16 74 1.16;1.74 95%, (95%) consideration 2020202 202 (2020-2022 3100 00 31,0 88. 889 86.889.2 86889 868 86. 892 89. 86.8;89.2 (A/B 1.9 19 093 1.093.3 10933 109 1.0 337 3.3 0 1.09;3.37 4.6 46 6 309 2.309.57 23095 230 2.3 957 9.5 5 2.30;9.57 1.6 062 106 .6 242 1.242.2 12422 124 1.2 224 2.2 1.24;2.2 1.4 14 161 1.161.7 11617 116 1.1 174 1.7 7 1.16;1.7 (95% 202020 20 (2020-202 310 31, 86.889. 8688 86.8;89. 1. 1.093. 1093 10 33 3. 1.09;3.3 4. 2.309.5 2309 23 2. 9. 2.30;9.5 1.242. 1242 12 22 1.24;2. 1.161. 1161 11 17 1.16;1.
