The growth of the oil and gas industry implies an understanding of corrosion and ways to mitigate pipeline failures. The objective of this research is to evaluate the propagation of localized corrosion induced by flow in different concentrations of sodium chloride and in the presence of corrosion inhibitor, associated with the wall shear stress. The API X65 steel specimens were drilled, with the purpose of simulating corrosion pits, and coupled to a modified ASTM G170 rotating cage. The experimental conditions were: (1) desaerated medium in the presence of CO2 under 5 bar, 120°C and concentrations of 0.1% or 10% sodium chloride; (2) aerated medium without CO2 at 40°C, without or with corrosion inhibitor. To evaluate the shear stress, Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) was used to understand the distribution on the surface of the samples. The results showed that the chloride concentration influenced the formation of the FeCO3 film and the corrosion rate. Furthermore, it was observed that the variation in diameter was more pronounced for the pits that had the smallest initial diameter, in all conditions evaluated. The highest values of diameter variation did not correspond to the highest values of shear stress imposed on each artificial pits. failures inhibitor X X6 drilled G G17 cageThe cage 1 (1 CO bar 120C C 120 01 0 0.1 10 2 (2 40C 40 40°C CFD (CFD samples FeCO rate Furthermore evaluated G1 ( 12 0. 4

Abstract Distinguishing Megathyrsus maximus genotypes in breeding programs based on morphological traits alone can be challenging. Thus, this study proposes the utilization of molecular traits to identify genetic differences and understand the characteristics of these genotypes. Twenty-four genotypes were sequenced, resulting in 341 bases within the trnL-trnF spacer and 459 bases from ITS2 sequences. These sequences were head-to-tail concatenated and analyzed for phylogenetic diversity. Substitution saturation analysis confirmed the sequences' suitability for phylogenetic reconstruction, as ISS value (0.0279) was significantly lower than its critical value (ISS.c = 0.7523). Both Maximum Parsimony and Bayesian Inference analyses yielded consistent results with most nodes showing support above 99%. PCoA analysis demonstrated a clustering pattern consistent with the phylogenetic tree, identifying two distinct groups with clear separation. Approximately 82% of the total variance was explained by the PCoA. The obtained genetic information serves as a valuable resource for developing M. maximus markers. challenging Thus Twentyfour Twenty four sequenced 34 trnLtrnF trnL trnF 45 ITS headtotail head tail diversity reconstruction 0.0279 00279 0 0279 (0.0279 ISS.c ISSc c 0.7523. 07523 0.7523 . 7523 0.7523) 99 99% tree separation 82 M markers 3 4 0.027 0027 027 (0.027 0752 0.752 752 9 8 0.02 002 02 (0.02 075 0.75 75 0.0 00 (0.0 07 0.7 7 0. ABSTRACT The limited temporal completeness and taxonomic accuracy of species lists, made available in a traditional manner in scientific publications, has always represented a problem. These lists are invariably limited to a few taxonomic groups and do not represent up-to-date knowledge of all species and classifications. In this context, the Brazilian megadiverse fauna is no exception, and the Catálogo Taxonômico da Fauna do Brasil (CTFB) (http://fauna.jbrj.gov.br/), made public in 2015, represents a database on biodiversity anchored on a list of valid and expertly recognized scientific names of animals in Brazil. The CTFB is updated in near real time by a team of more than 800 specialists. By January 1, 2024, the CTFB compiled 133,691 nominal species, with 125,138 that were considered valid. Most of the valid species were arthropods (82.3%, with more than 102,000 species) and chordates (7.69%, with over 11,000 species). These taxa were followed by a cluster composed of Mollusca (3,567 species), Platyhelminthes (2,292 species), Annelida (1,833 species), and Nematoda (1,447 species). All remaining groups had less than 1,000 species reported in Brazil, with Cnidaria (831 species), Porifera (628 species), Rotifera (606 species), and Bryozoa (520 species) representing those with more than 500 species. Analysis of the CTFB database can facilitate and direct efforts towards the discovery of new species in Brazil, but it is also fundamental in providing the best available list of valid nominal species to users, including those in science, health, conservation efforts, and any initiative involving animals. The importance of the CTFB is evidenced by the elevated number of citations in the scientific literature in diverse areas of biology, law, anthropology, education, forensic science, and veterinary science, among others. publications problem uptodate up date classifications context exception (CTFB http//fauna.jbrj.gov.br/, httpfaunajbrjgovbr http //fauna.jbrj.gov.br/ , jbrj gov br (http://fauna.jbrj.gov.br/) 2015 Brazil 80 specialists 1 2024 133691 133 691 133,69 125138 125 138 125,13 82.3%, 823 82 3 (82.3% 102000 102 000 102,00 7.69%, 769 7 69 (7.69% 11000 11 11,00 . 3,567 3567 567 (3,56 2,292 2292 2 292 (2,29 1,833 1833 833 (1,83 1,447 1447 447 (1,44 1000 1,00 831 (83 628 (62 606 (60 520 (52 50 users science health biology law anthropology education others http//fauna.jbrj.gov.br/ faunajbrjgovbr //fauna.jbrj.gov.br (http://fauna.jbrj.gov.br/ 201 8 202 13369 13 133,6 12513 12 125,1 82.3% (82.3 10200 10 00 102,0 7.69% 76 6 (7.69 1100 11,0 3,56 356 56 (3,5 2,29 229 29 (2,2 1,83 183 83 (1,8 1,44 144 44 (1,4 100 1,0 (8 62 (6 60 52 (5 5 http//fauna.jbrj.gov.br (http://fauna.jbrj.gov.br 20 1336 133, 1251 125, 82.3 (82. 1020 0 102, 7.69 (7.6 110 11, 3,5 35 (3, 2,2 22 (2, 1,8 18 (1, 1,4 14 4 ( 82. Abstract Leaf litter is an important component related to nutrient cycling and conservation of soil biodiversity. In this context, the objective of our study was to investigate the relationship between soil and leaf litter in different forest communities in sub-regions of the Pantanal (Nhecolândia and Abobral/Miranda). To this end, we collected soil and leaf litter samples from 152 sample plots divided in physiognomies regionally called as Cordilheira, Capão, Murundu, Corixo and Cambará/Canjiqueira forest. In the laboratory, analytical determinations were conducted for 22 soil attributes and 11 elements of the chemical composition of the leaf litter. The forest communities showed a great well-defined edaphic gradient encompassing environments with high natural fertility soils (Capão and Cordilheira Abobral/Miranda), acidic soils with a high proportion of soluble Al3+ (Cambará/Canjiqueira, and Corixo), and poorly developed soils with a predominantly sandy texture (Nhecolândia region, Cordilheira and Murundu). Soil attributes are significantly related to the chemical composition of litter, as indicated by correlations between N, P, Ca, Mg, Mn and the C/N ratio with physical, chemical and soil organic matter attributes. This study revealed the interaction of soils with the chemical composition of litter, constituting an ecosystem service, in forest communities in the Brazilian Pantanal. biodiversity context subregions sub regions Nhecolândia Abobral/Miranda. Abstract Background: Increased arterial stiffness is currently an independent risk factor for atrial fibrillation, but the pathophysiological mechanisms of this arrhythmia remain an area of knowledge gap to be explored. Objectives: To investigate the existence of an association between arterial stiffness and the density of premature atrial contractions (PACs) in hypertensive individuals without atrial fibrillation. Methods: Cross-sectional study with hypertensive patients without diagnosed atrial fibrillation, who were studied with speckle-tracking echocardiography to assess left atrial (LA) strain and carotid-femoral pulse wave velocity (cfPWV) to assess arterial stiffness. All patients underwent 24h-ECG Holter and laboratory tests. Significance level was set at p<0.05. Results: Seventy participants from a single centre without overt cardiovascular disease were included. The cfPWV was correlated with higher density of PACs in 24h-Holter monitoring, independently of LV mass index (1.48 [1.08-2.03], p-value 0.005). Increased cfPWV was correlated with decreased LA strain values, with Spearman correlation coefficients of −0.27 (p-value 0.027) and −0.29 (p-value 0.018) for reservoir and conduit 2D Strain, respectively. Conclusions: In this study with hypertensive patients, it was possible to demonstrate an association between arterial stiffness and higher density of atrial arrhythmias. Furthermore, arterial stiffness was associated with lower left atrial strain values for reservoir and conduit functions. ABSTRACT The Island of Santa Catarina is the largest island on the Brazilian coast. Within the Atlantic Forest domain, it serves as a model for investigating the decline in biodiversity within this ecosystem. This decline is associated with the loss of a large part of forest cover and mammalian species. Although the forest environment in the island has recovered more in comparison to the rest of the Atlantic Rainforest (66% versus 28%, respectively), the isolation typical of islands has hindered the recolonization of sensitive species, particularly those that are threatened. Two decades after the first publication of the mammal list of the Island of Santa Catarina, we revised past data to identify which species became extinct and which native and exotic species remain, focusing on the inclusion of Chiroptera. Through bibliographical reviews, scientific collections and field surveys, a total of 59 species of native mammals, non-volant and volants, were confirmed. Among these, eight species were determined to be extirpated, all threatened with extinction, including large ungulates and top cats, in addition to the occurrence of nine domestic and exotic invasive species. Studies employing specific methodologies and sampling techniques in inadequately assessed environments have the potential to augment species richness, particularly among rodents, marsupials, and bats. coast domain ecosystem 66% 66 (66 28 28% respectively, respectively , respectively) remain Chiroptera reviews surveys 5 mammals nonvolant non volant volants confirmed these extirpated extinction cats richness rodents marsupials bats 6 (6 2 (

Microbiologically influenced corrosion is a common problem in the oil and gas industry. It is a type of corrosion induced by biofilm-forming microorganisms such as sulfate-reducing bacteria which produces corrosive compounds as a product of their respiration. The most indicated treatment for the issue is the use of biocides, chemical substances used to kill microbes. However, biocides are corrosive to many materials, making their selection a problem. The 2,2-dibromopropanediamide (BDNPA) is a biocide used to control the growth of a wide range microorganisms. There is a literature gap for selecting materials that can be used with DBNPA Biocide without risk of corrosion. Hence, this research is dedicated to investigating the corrosion behaviour of commonly used alloys in a DBNPA solution. This work evaluated 11 alloys commonly used in the laboratory for the manufacture of instrumentation piping. Anodic polarization tests and 30 days immersion tests were carried out in a 100% DBNPA solution at two temperatures (25 and 40 ºC). Among the analysed alloys, only 4 were approved by the tests in all tested temperature ranges (Titanium Grade 2, Hastelloy C276, Inconel 625 and Superduplex Steel SAF 2507). These alloys did not present a localized corrosion process in any of the 30-day immersion tests, in addition, they obtained a significant passivation domain in the anodic polarization test at 40 ºC. The remaining alloys (AISI 304, AISI 316, AISI 317, AISI 321, AISI 347, Monel 400) were not approved in all temperature ranges tested for transport and storage of 100% BDNPA biocide solution. industry biofilmforming biofilm forming sulfatereducing sulfate reducing respiration microbes However 2,2dibromopropanediamide 22dibromopropanediamide dibromopropanediamide 2,2 2 (BDNPA Hence 1 piping 3 100 25 (2 ºC . ºC) Titanium C276 C 62 2507. 2507 2507) 30day day addition 304 316 317 321 347 400 2dibromopropanediamide 22 10 ( C27 6 250 31 32 34 C2

ABSTRACT This study mapped cattle carcass lesions and associated the isoline maps with the occurrence factors of these lesions. Isoline maps were drawn by common kriging. The associated occurrence factors were the layout of the boards in the crowding tub (CT), characteristics of the hauling truck (general state and the presence of loose and/or sharp boards), broken boards in the corral (BBC), type of road covered (TRC), and animal falls upon unloading at the slaughterhouse (FAUS). The BBC showed a higher number of carcass lesions in the rib region. The data on FAUS and deterioration of hauling trucks fit an exponential model, with more carcass lesions in the rib and hindquarters, and plate regions, respectively. The data on spaced boards in the CT and TRC (mixed) showed greater carcass lesions in the rib region. Therefore, this method provides important information about the spatial distribution of lesions in bovine carcasses, and the drawing sheet used is adequate to represent such lesions. kriging CT, , (CT) general andor or boards, boards) BBC, (BBC) TRC, (TRC) FAUS. .
ABSTRACT Genealogical data comprised 45,711 animals born between 1901 and 2016, with 48,127 animals in the pedigree file. Population structure was analyzed in terms of pedigree completeness, individual inbreeding coefficient (F), generation interval (L), rate of inbreeding (ΔF), effective population size (Ne), effective number of founders (ff), and effective number of ancestors (fa). The herd initially consisted of 13 bulls and 14 cows, and there were variations in the number of selected bulls and cows throughout the analyzed period, with 2,575 bulls, 13,691 cows, and 45,711 births recorded at the end of 2016. In total, 48.81% of the cows had only one progeny. Most dams (47.59%) were between three and seven years old, with a mean L in the population of 7.9 years. According to the results, 52.75% of the cows, 44.92% of the bulls, and 63.71% of the calves of the Guzerat breed in the northern region of Brazil showed some degree of inbreeding, with small-magnitude coefficients (0.56, 0.83, and 0.71% for cows, bulls, and calves, respectively). This fluctuation did not hinder the genetic evolution of the herd in the region. The effective population size does not seem to compromise the maintenance of genetic variability in the breed.

Abstract A novel method to classify the aggressiveness of soil considering its physicochemical content and the development of new synthetic solutions for lab uses is proposed. The results showed that the main criteria existing in the literature for soil corrosivity classification might cause misunderstandings about the real aggressiveness. The synthetic solutions proposed aim to cover a wide range of soil found worldwide in order to refine the assessment of their characteristics hence their corrosivity. For the lab experiments, an API 5L X65 pipeline carbon steel was used. The solutions presented great reliability, and they seemed to be adequate to simulate soils with the presence of sulfate-reducing bacteria (SRB), chloride, and high pH.

Flow-accelerated corrosion has been studied by means of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) techniques and rotating cage (RC) autoclave tests according to ASTM G170. This study evaluated through CFD and laboratory tests the influence of RC geometry and baffles on the wall shear stress (τw) proposed by the aforementioned standard. The experimental were performed at 120 °C and 2 angular velocities (500 and 800 rpm) during 25 h in a solution with 600 mg/L of Cl- ions and 10-3 mol/L of sodium thiosulfate. Corrosion rates were obtained by ASTM G31 and the surfaces were evaluated by OM and XRD. Corrosion rate values and XRD analyses showed divergence between samples in different positions in the RC and between distinct regions in the same sample. The numerical simulations and the experimental tests showed a great influence of the baffles on τw. The conservatism in the values obtained with this technique is caused by excessive corrosion close to the samples edges and the non-uniformity of τw on the internal samples surfaces. Thus, the main conclusion of the study is related to the importance of better knowledge on experimental methodology and mathematical approximations for updating the criterion for the correct τw calculation on sample surfaces.

Abstract As a result of the pandemic caused by the impact of the SAR-Cov-2 orthocoranavirus, strict containment measures were adopted in Spain from March 15, 2020. These measures affected, among other systems, the activity and management of third sector entities dedicated to the care of people with rare diseases. In this study we tried to know this impact, using qualitative methodology and MAXQDA software from a sample of 81 entities participating in the study. From the analysis of the information obtained, it was possible to draw the conclusion that confinement has not had a homogeneous impact on the management of the organizations. The reduction of their visibility activities stands out, with the consequent social and psycho-affective impact. This highlights a previous structural weakness that has been aggravated by this situation. The study also delves into the adjustments that these entities have made in order to be able to continue providing their support services, as well as the impact this has had on their scarce staff and management teams.

The first objective of this study was to assess Marandu palisade grass in an integrated crop-livestock system (ICL), and two integrated crop-livestock-forest (ICLF) systems. The first ICLF had a single row of eucalyptus (ICLF-1L) and the second had three rows of eucalyptus (ICLF-3L). The second objective was to assess the performance, behaviour, and thermal comfort of Nellore cattle in these systems during summer and winter. The data were collected for two years after the systems were implemented. Sixty Nellore cattle were used. Dry forage mass (DFM) was similar in all systems with a higher percentage of leaves observed in ICLF-3L in winter compared with ICL. Forage in the ICLF-1L and ICLF-3L systems contained more crude protein (CP) than ICL. The radiant thermal load was lower for ICLF-1L and ICLF-3L, with a lower globe temperature in ICLF-3L. The stocking rate was lowest for ICLF-3L. Two years after the systems had been established, the trees provided low density shade and implementing the ICLF-1L and ICLF-3L systems improved the CP content of the grass without changing the levels of DFM and performance of the cattle. The trees reduced the total thermal energy exchanged between the animal and the environment, improving thermal comfort, but did not influence cattle behaviour or their haematological parameters.
