RESUMO No Brasil, a seringueira Hevea brasiliensis (Willd. ex A.Juss.) é plantada em áreas de escape para evitar a doença do mal-das-folhas. Embora haja relatos de danos ocasionados por insetos e ácaros na literatura, estes são esparsos. O objetivo deste estudo foi realizar um levantamento populacional da comunidade de Scolytinae, Platypodinae (Curculionidae) e Bostrichidae em um plantio de seringueira em Goianésia, estado de Goiás, com armadilhas de impacto de voo iscadas com etanol, de março de 2013 a março de 2014. Scolytinae (13 gêneros, 29 espécies) foi o grupo mais abundante, representando mais de 99% dos espécimes capturados, enquanto que seis espécies de Bostrichidae, sete de Cerambycidae e duas de Platypodinae foram também capturadas. Hypothenemus obscurus (Scolytinae) representou cerca de 89% de todos os exemplares capturados. Embora nenhum ataque a árvores vivas tenha sido observado durante a pesquisa, espécies com capacidade conhecida de atacar e colonizar com sucesso árvores vivas foram capturadas neste estudo. Talvez isso seja uma indicação de que a plantação é bem gerenciada, não fornecendo condições para que isso ocorra.

ABSTRACT In Brazil, the rubber tree Hevea brasiliensis (Willd. ex A.Juss.) is heavily planted in the so-called escape areas in order to avoid leaf blight. While there are reports on damage inflicted by insects and mites in the literature, these are sparse. The objective of this study was to survey the community of Scolytinae, Platypodinae (Curculionidae) and Bostrichidae, in a rubber tree plantation in Goianésia, state of Goiás, Brazil, with ethanol-baited flight intercept traps from March 2013 through March 2014. Scolytinae beetles (13 genera, 29 species) were the most abundant group, accounting for over 99% of trapped specimens, while six Bostrichidae, seven Cerambycidae and two Platypodinae species were also caught. Hypothenemus obscurus (Scolytinae) comprised ca. 89% of all trapped specimens. While no attack on live trees was observed during the survey, species with known ability to attack and successfully colonize standing trees were trapped in this study. Perhaps this is an indication that the plantation is well managed, not providing conditions where attacks on live trees may occur.

Resumo A mangabeira Hancornia speciosa é uma frutífera nativa do Cerrado utilizada para consumo in natura e fabricação de sorvetes, doces, geleias, entre outros. Essa espécie pode abrigar insetos e ácaros, associados a diferentes fases fenológicas da planta. Por isso, o objetivo deste estudo foi verificar a ocorrência de insetos da ordem Hemiptera em Hancornia speciosa. Para tanto, foram realizadas coletas na coleção de germoplasma ex situ de espécies nativas da Escola de Agronomia, UFG, Goiânia - GO, em quatro variedades de Hancornia speciosa (speciosa, cuyabensis, gardneri e pubescens). Para cada variedade foram selecionadas oito plantas aleatoriamente. De cada planta, foram coletados dois ramos/planta no terço médio. Os ramos foram acondicionados em sacos plásticos, etiquetados e transportados para o laboratório para avaliação. As coletas ocorreram em média a cada 15 dias, no período de janeiro a dezembro de 2016. A superfamília Coccoidea e as famílias Aleyrodidae e Aphididae foram predominantes nas coletas. No estudo, foram observados 1.163 indivíduos de Parasaissetia nigra em Hancornia speciosa variedade cuyabensis. Este é o primeiro relato de ocorrência de Parasaissetia nigra em mangabeira. Quanto à interação entre insetos e a mangabeira, verifica-se que as variedades diferiram quanto à abundância de hemípteros. A família Aleyrodidae foi abundante na variedade gardneri, correspondendo a 49,84% dos indivíduos e a variedade pubescens em relação aos pulgões (Aphididae).

Abstract Hancornia speciosa is a fruit native to the Cerrado biome which is used for the fresh consumption and the manufacture of ice cream, sweets, and jams, among others. This species can harbor insects and mites, associated with different phenological phases of the plant. Therefore, the aim of this study was to verify the occurrence of insects of the order Hemiptera in Hancornia speciosa. For this purpose, collections were made in the ex situ germplasm collection of native species of the School of Agronomy, UFG, Goiânia - Goiás state, in four varieties of Hancornia speciosa (speciosa, cuyabensis, gardneri and pubescens). Eight plants were selected for each variety at random. From each plant, two branches/plant were collected in the middle third. Those packed in plastic bags, were labeled and transported to the laboratory for evaluation. The collections occurred on average every 15 days, from January to December 2016. The superfamily Coccoidea and the families Aleyrodidae and Aphididae were predominant in the collections. In the study, 1,163 individuals of Parasaissetia nigra were observed in Hancornia speciosa variety cuyabensis. This is the first report of the occurrence of Parasaissetia nigra in Hancornia speciosa. As for the interaction between insects and Hancornia speciosa, it appears that the varieties differed in terms of the abundance of Hemiptera. The Aleyrodidae family was abundant in the gardneri variety, corresponding to 49.84% of the individuals and the pubescens variety in relation to aphids (Aphididae).

Resumo Eugenia dysenterica é uma espécie nativa do Cerrado com potencial para exploração econômica em função do seu uso na alimentação. No entanto, estudos são necessários para possibilitar a domesticação da espécie em plantio comercial. Atualmente, os frutos são obtidos a partir do extrativismo em áreas do Bioma Cerrado. A artropodofauna associada à Eugenia dysenterica é praticamente desconhecida. Assim, o presente estudo teve como objetivo avaliar a artropodofauna associada às folhas de Eugenia dysenterica. Avaliamos quinzenalmente a artropodofauna em plantas de Eugenia dysenterica na coleção de germoplasma ex situ da Escola de Agronomia, UFG. Para tanto, três ramos do terço médio foram amostrados em 16 plantas. Posteriormente, sete folhas/ramo foram selecionadas e analisadas sob microscópio estereoscópio. As cochonilhas foram os artrópodes mais abundantes em Eugenia dysenterica. A presença de folhas novas no mês de outubro coincidiu com a eclosão das ninfas da cochonilha Ceroplastes acutus e com o aparecimento de galhas foliares causadas por dípteros. A superfamília Coccoidea e a família Aleyrodidae foram classificadas como superabundantes e superfrequentes. Duas famílias de Thysanoptera foram encontradas: Thripidae e Phlaeothripidae. Com relação aos ácaros, as espécies fitófagas foram as mais abundantes, seguidas pelos ácaros predadores. As famílias Phytoseiidae e Tenuipalpidae foram as mais representativas nas amostras. Aleirodídeos, dípteros e a cochonilha Ceroplastes acutus estão associados à emissão de novas folhas da cagaiteira. Este é o primeiro relato de ocorrência de espécies de ácaros, tripes e da cochonilha Ceroplastes acutus em Eugenia dysenterica.

Abstract Eugenia dysenterica is a native species of the Cerrado biome which has potential for economic exploitation due to its economic importance in food. However, further studies are crucial to enable the domestication of this species in commercial plantation. Actually, the fruits are obtained by extractivism in area of the Cerrado vegetation. The arthropodfauna associated to Eugenia dysenterica is practically unknown. Thus, the present study aimed to evaluate the arthropodofauna associated with leaves of Eugenia dysenterica. We evaluated the arthropodfauna biweekly in Eugenia dysenterica plants in the collection of ex situ germoplasm of ‘Escola de Agronomia’, UFG. Three branches of the middle third were sampled in 16 plants. Seven leaves/branch were selected and analyzed under stereomicroscope. Cochineals were the most abundant arthropods in Eugenia dysenterica. The presence of new leaves on the plants, October, coincided with the hatching of the nymphs of the cochineal Ceroplastes acutus and the appearance of leaf galls caused by Diptera. The superfamily Coccoidea and the family Aleyrodidae were classified as superabundant and superfrequent. Two families of Thysanoptera were reported: Thripidae and Phlaeothripidae. In relation to plant mites, phytophagous species were the most abundant ones, followed by predatory mites. Families Phytoseiidae and Tenuipalpidae were the most representative in the samples. Aleyrodidae, Diptera and cochineal Ceroplastes acutus are associated with the emission of new leaves of Cagateira. This is the first report of the occurrence of mite species, thrips and Ceroplastes acutus in Eugenia dysenterica.

Abstract Rubber tree is the main source of natural rubber in the world. Because of its economic importance, cultivation was accentuated in several regions of Brazil in the form of monoculture, thus favoring insects to establish in the crop. Among them, the West Indian red scale cochineal Selenaspidus articulatus stands out, responsible for injuring rubber plants due to sap sucking. This work evaluated the fluctuation of S. articulatus in rubber tree clones. Sampling was carried out by collecting leaves every 15 days from PB 235, RRIM 600, PR 255 and GT 1 clones during the period of March 2013 and March 2014. RRIM 600 clone showed the highest population level of S. articulatus, with a population peak of 14.88 insects/leaf in June. PR 255 clone had the lowest scale infestation, demonstrating this clone’s possible resistance to this species. This is the first report of S. articulatus occurrence in Goiás.

Abstract Calacarus heveae is considered the most common pest mite in rubber tree crops in Southeast and Midwest Brazil. We evaluated the population dynamics of mites in GT 1, PB 235, PR 255 and RRIM 600 rubber tree clones from crops in the Goiás State, Brazil. We sampled leaves between June 2013 and June 2014 in 10 trees for each rubber tree clone. Calacarus heveae and Tenuipalpus heveae populations were counted in four 1 cm2-areas distributed on each middle leaflet sampled, whereas all other mites were found on lateral leaflets. Calacarus heveae reached a population peak between March and May 2014. PR 255 and RRIM 600 sheltered the densest population of C. heveae. We sampled six predatory mite species, highlighting Euseius citrifolius. GT 1 and PB 235 had higher abundance of predatory mites. This is the first study carried out on the population dynamics of phytophagous mites associated with rubber trees in the state of Goiás.

Resumo A mangabeira Hancornia speciosa Gomes (Apocynaceae) é uma planta nativa do Cerrado brasileiro, e os estudos de insetos associados a esta espécie vegetal geralmente são restritos a relatos de ocorrência em viveiro. Deste modo, é necessário avaliar quais insetos estão associados a esta espécie. Entre as espécies de insetos que atacam a cultura, destacam-se os tripes. Neste trabalho, estudou-se a diversidade de tripes associados a variedades de H. speciosa, visando a conhecer as espécies de Thysanoptera que utilizam essa frutífera nativa como hospedeira. As coletas foram realizadas no banco de germoplasma ex situ de espécies nativas da Escola de Agronomia – Universidade Federal de Goiás, Goiânia, Brasil, contendo as variedades speciosa, cuyabensis, gardneri e pubescens. As avaliações ocorreram no período de janeiro a dezembro de 2016. Um total de 1.679 indivíduos de tripes foram identificados. A maior abundância de tripes foi coletada na variedade pubescens (79,08%), seguida por gardneri (15,02%), cuyabensis (4,71%) e speciosa (1,19%). Representantes da família Thripidae foram predominantes em todas as coletas, com destaque para as espécies Coremothrips nubiculus and Heliothrips longisensibilis. Possivelmente, a presença de tricomas foliares presentes na variedade pubescens é um fator que contribui para a maior abundância nesta variedade. Heliothrips longisensibilis é registrada pela primeira vez no Brasil.

Abstract Studies of insects associated with the fruit tree Hancornia speciosa Gomes (Apocynaceae), a native of the Brazilian Cerrado popularly known as “mangabeira”, are generally restricted to reports from seedling nurseries. Thrips predominate among insects that attack this crop. This study investigated the species of Thysanoptera that use this native fruit as a host, and which variety they prefer. The H. speciosa varieties speciosa s.str., cuyabensis, gardneri and pubescens were obtained from the collections of the ex-situ germplasm bank of native species at the Escola de Agronomia, Universidade Federal de Goiás, Goiânia, Brazil. Evaluations were conducted from January through December 2016. A total of 1679 individual thrips were identified. Thrips were most abundant on pubescens (79.08%), followed by gardneri (15.02%), cuyabensis (4.71%), and speciosa (1.19%). Representatives of the family Thripidae predominated in all collections, especially Coremothrips nubiculus and Heliothrips longisensibilis. The foliar trichomes present in var. pubescens may account for the high abundance of thrips on this variety. Heliothrips longisensibilis is recorded in Brazil for the first time.

A veiculação de fungicidas, inseticidas e reguladores de crescimento por meio da peliculização às sementes de tomate pode ser promissora no contexto da produção de mudas. No entanto, primeiramente, é necessário entender a dinâmica do revestimento com polímeros na germinação e vigor de sementes. Dessa forma, determinaram-se os efeitos da peliculização no potencial fisiológico de sementes de tomate e no crescimento de mudas. Para tanto, empregou-se o delineamento inteiramente casualizado, em esquema fatorial 2x4, sendo duas cultivares ('Santa Clara' e 'Kada Gigante') e quatro concentrações do polímero Disco AG Red L-203(r) (0, 50, 100 e 150mL kg-1 de semente), com quatro repetições. A interação entre os fatores (cultivar x concentrações de polímero) ocorreu somente para as variáveis germinação e primeira contagem. As concentrações 100 e 150mL kg-1 prejudicaram a germinação de sementes de tomate da cultivar 'Santa Clara'. A cultivar 'Kada Gigante' obteve um desempenho superior à 'Santa Clara' quanto à emergência de plântulas. O efeito da peliculização na germinação de sementes de tomate depende da cultivar utilizada. O potencial fisiológico de sementes de tomate não é alterado pelo uso de polímeros de revestimento

The airing of fungicides, insecticides and growth regulators through the film coating tomato seed can be promising in the context of the production of seedlings. However, first there is a need to understand the dynamics of polymers in the germination and vigor of seeds. In this way, it was determined the effects of film coating on the physiological potential of tomato seeds and seedling growth. To this end, it was used a completely randomized design in factorial scheme 2x4, being two cultivars ('Santa Clara' and 'Kada Gigante') with four concentrations of polymer Disc AG Red L-203(r) (0, 50, 100 and 150mL kg-1 of seed), and four replications. The interaction among the factors (cultivar x polymer concentrations) ocurred only for variables germination and first count. Concentrations 100 and 150mL kg-1 harmed the germination of seeds of tomato cultivate 'Santa Clara'. The 'Kada Gigante' cultivar obtained a better performance when compared to 'Santa Clara' regarding the emergence of seedlings. The effect of film coating on the seeds germination of tomato depends on the cultivar. The physiological potential of tomato seeds is not changed by the use of coating polymers

O resfriamento artificial é uma ferramenta para conservação da qualidade de grãos nas regiões tropicais. Este trabalho foi realizado com o propósito de verificar o efeito da refrigeração artificial do ar, por meio de aeração, na preservação da qualidade de grãos de milho em armazém graneleiro horizontal, de fundo "V". Para o experimento foram utilizados dois septos, sendo um resfriado artificialmente (12ºC), com capacidade de 28 mil toneladas, e o outro aerado com ar natural, com capacidade de 29 mil toneladas. As amostragens foram realizadas, em ambos os septos, durante a carga, aos 60 e 120 dias após a primeira etapa de resfriamento e durante a expedição dos grãos. Durante o armazenamento, as amostragens foram realizadas considerando-se a posição e a profundidade da massa de grãos de milho. A avaliação qualitativa consistiu na determinação dos seguintes parâmetros: peso de mil grãos, temperatura da massa de grãos, teor e acidez de óleo, identificação de fungos, teor de aflatoxina, índice de infestação de insetos e porcentagem de grãos infestados. O resfriamento artificial promoveu a diminuição da temperatura da massa de grãos, independentemente das condições de temperatura e umidade do ar externo. A aeração artificial, com ar frio, preservou os parâmetros atribuídos à qualidade dos grãos e proporcionou redução na percentagem de grãos infestados e na população de insetos-praga na massa do produto. Assim, a utilização do resfriamento artificial no armazenamento de grãos de milho em regiões tropicais é eficaz na manutenção da qualidade dos grãos e no manejo de insetos e patógenos.

Artificial cooling is a tool used in the conservation of grain quality in tropical regions. In this study, we aimed to verify the effect of artificial cooling through aeration in preserving the quality of corn grains in bottom horizontal "V" warehouses. Two septa were used in the experiment: an artificially cooled (12ºC) septum with capacity of 28 thousand tons and a naturally aerated septum with capacity of 29 thousand tons. Sampling was carried out in both septa during loading, at 60 and 120 days after the first stage of cooling, and during expedition. During storage, sampling was performed considering the position and depth of the corn mass. A qualitative assessment was conducted to determine the following parameters: weight of thousand grains, grain mass temperature, oil content and acidity, identification of fungi, aflatoxin content, insect infestation rate, and percentage of infested grain. Artificial cooling temperature promoted a decrease in grain mass, regardless of the external conditions of air temperature and humidity. Artificial aeration, with cold air, preserved the parameters assigned to grain quality and provided reduced percentage of infested grain and reduced population of insect pests in the product mass. Therefore, the use of artificial cooling in the storage of maize grains in tropical regions is effective in maintaining grain quality and managing insects and pathogens.

Durante o armazenamento de grãos de feijão (Phaseolus vulgaris L.), o rendimento pode ser reduzido devido às infestações de carunchos como os da espécie Zabrotes subfasciatus (Bohemann, 1833) (Coleoptera: Bruchidae). O ataque desse inseto afeta diretamente a qualidade dos grãos, além de facilitar a entrada de patógenos, tornando-os inviáveis para o consumo e/o comércio. Com a finalidade de buscar uma estratégia alternativa para o controle deste caruncho, avaliou-se a possível resistência de linhagens quase isogênicas contendo arcelina, linhagens selvagens contendo arcelina e cultivares comerciais de feijoeiro, em laboratório (T= 25±2° C, U.R.= 70±10% e fotoperíodo= 12h). Foram utilizados frascos contendo 10 g de grãos dos genótipos, os quais foram infestados por uma semana com sete casais do caruncho. Vinte e um dias após a infestação, os grãos foram avaliados contando-se o número de ovos viáveis. A partir de 25 dias da infestação, os grãos foram observados diariamente avaliando-se o número e o peso dos insetos emergidos, a viabilidade larval, o ciclo biológico (ovo-adulto) e o peso de grãos consumidos. Empregou-se um delineamento inteiramente casualizado, com oito repetições. Os genótipos Arc.2, Arc.3, Arc.4, Arc.3S e Ipa 6 expressaram baixos níveis de não-preferência para oviposição e foram classificados como deterrentes. Os genótipos Arc.1S e Arc.1 expressaram elevados níveis de antibiose; Arc.2, Arc.3 e Arc.4 apresentam o mesmo mecanismo, porém, em níveis inferiores.

During the storage of bean grains (Phaseolus vulgaris L.), production may be reduced due to weevils attack such as the species Zabrotes subfasciatus (Bohemann, 1833) (Coleoptera: Bruchidae). This insect attack affects directly the quality of grain and facilitates the entry of pathogens, making them impractical for consumption and trade. In order to find an alternative strategy to control of this pest, we assessed the possible resistance of near isogenic lines containing arcelin, wild lines containing arcelin and cultivars, in laboratory (T= 25±2° C, R.H.= 70±10% and photoperiod= 12h). The assays were conducted in vials containing 10g of bean grains per genotype, releasing seven pairs of the insect and maintaining the infestation during one week. Twenty-one days after the releasing, the grains were evaluated counting the viable eggs. Twenty-five days after the infestation, the evalutions were daily initiated, observing the number of adults emerged, larvae viability, development period (egg to adult) and weight of grains consumed. The assays were performed in a completely randomized design with eight replicates. The genotypes Arc.2, Arc.3, Arc.4, Arc.3S and Ipa 6 showed low levels of oviposition non-preference, being classified as deterrents. The genotypes Arc.1S and Arc.1 expressed high levels of antibiosis; Arc.2, Arc.3 and Arc.4 showed the same mechanism, however in lower levels.
