RESUMO Com o objetivo de verificar o efeito do tratamento de sementes com thiamethoxam no controle do tripes Enneothrips flavens na cultura do amendoim cv. tatú, foi realizado um experimento no Município de Dumont, SP, na safra 1998/1999. Foram estabelecidos os seguintes tratamentos: testemunha; thiamethoxam 700 WS a 52,5; 70,0; 87,5 e 105 g i.a./100 kg de sementes e imidacloprid a 105 g i.a./100 kg de sementes. A aplicação dos produtos foi realizada por meio de tratamento de sementes. As avaliações foram realizadas aos 13, 19, 25, 31 e 40 dias após a emergência, amostrando-se 30 folíolos ao acaso por parcela, nas duas ruas centrais, anotando-se o número de tripes presentes. A análise estatística dos resultados demonstrou que todos os tratamentos diferiram do tratamento testemunha para todas as avaliações realizadas. ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to investigate the action of insecticide in seed treatment against the thrips Enneothrips flavens on peanut, carried out at Dumont, SP, during October/98 to March/99. The cultivar used was tatú. The experiment was conduced in a completely randomized block design with six treatments (check; thiamethoxam 700 WS at 52.5; 70.0; 87.5 and 105 g a.i./100 kg of seeds and imidacloprid at 105 g a.i./100 kg of seeds) and four replications. The application of the insecticides was made by seed treatment. Thrips evaluations were made at 13, 19, 25, 31 and 40 days after emergence, by counting the number of thrips in samples of thirty leaflets per plot. Yield evaluation was made by weighing the peanut pods harvested from the four central rows of each plot. The results showed reduction of this insect population for all treatments, although the better responses were verified for thiamethoxam at 70.0 and 87.5 g a.i./100 kg of seeds. The harvest showed that all the treatments differed from untreated but no stattisticall significant difference was found between them, with better production for thiamethoxam at 70.0 and 87.5 g a.i./100 kg of seeds.
