ABSTRACT Termites attack cellulose and woods, damaging furniture, floors, roofs and other structures. Chemical treatment of the soil is the most common control for subterranean termites which forms a barrier above and around infested structures. When conventional controls are applied colony sizes and satellite nests are not known. The objective of this test was to determine the foraging area and estimate the population of Heterotermes tenuis colony by the Triple Mark and Release Method (TMR) with the posterior estimation of hexaflumuron bait efficiency. The results showed that the estimated foraging population of the H. tenuis colony was 802,193 ± 41,098 workers. The average insect weights were: workers - 0.004238 g ± 0.000348; pre-alates - 0.004926 g ± 0.000476; and soldiers - 0.004823 g ± 0.000809. In the first collection the rate of different castes were 97.00% workers, 2.78% soldiers and 0.22% pre-alates. After the estimation of the population and foraging area, the control was initiated on 1/4/99 with 2 hexaflumuron baits, 20 g each one, (Recruit* - 0.5% p/p). After 64 and 84 days there was verified a reduction of 28.57 and 54.14%, respectively, in the termite activities. At 105 days there were no activities in 85.7% of the monitoring stations. At 119 days after baiting there were no activities in the treated area. The treated area was monitored after the end of termite activities by wood stakes during 6 months and no re-infestation was recorded. woods furniture floors structures known TMR (TMR efficiency H 802193 802 193 802,19 41098 41 098 41,09 0004238 0 004238 0.00423 0.000348 0000348 000348 prealates pre alates 0004926 004926 0.00492 0.000476 0000476 000476 0004823 004823 0.00482 0000809 000809 0.000809 9700 97 00 97.00 278 78 2.78 022 22 0.22 prealates. alates. 1499 1 4 99 1/4/9 baits one Recruit* Recruit (Recruit 05 5 0.5 p/p. pp p/p . p p/p) 8 2857 28 57 28.5 5414 54 14 54.14% respectively 10 857 85 7 85.7 stations 11 reinfestation re infestation recorded 80219 80 19 802,1 4109 09 41,0 000423 00423 0.0042 0.00034 000034 00034 000492 00492 0.0049 0.00047 000047 00047 000482 00482 0.0048 000080 00080 0.00080 970 9 97.0 27 2.7 02 0.2 149 1/4/ 0. 285 28. 541 54.14 85. 8021 802, 410 41, 00042 0042 0.004 0.0003 00003 0003 00049 0049 0.0004 00004 0004 00048 0048 00008 0008 0.0008 97. 2. 1/4 54.1 004 0.00 0.000 0000 000 1/ 54. 0.0
