The antifouling booster biocides are frequently studied for toxic effects on the aquatic ecosystems. The present investigation proposes passive silicone rubber samplers as a collection method for biocides, once these methods can concentrate substances in aqueous matrices at very low levels. Through the passive sampler-water partition coefficient (Ksw) and the analyte chemical nature, we can optimize their extraction from the membrane to apply in the sample medium. We used the co-solvent method to determine the Ksw of three third-generation antifouling biocides, chlorothalonil, dichlofluanid, and dichlorooctylisothiazolinone (DCOIT), with log Ksw = 2.24, 4.01, and 2.38, respectively. Improving extraction also led to a recovery range higher than 70%, determinations were carried out by gas chromatography with an electron capture detector. Abstract Background A cost of illness (COI) study aims to evaluate the socioeconomic burden that an illness imposes on society as a whole. This study aimed to describe the resources used, patterns of care, direct cost, and loss of productivity due to systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) in Brazil. Methods This 12-month, cross-sectional, COI study of patients with SLE (ACR 1997 Classification Criteria) collected data using patient interviews (questionnaires) and medical records, covering: SLE profile, resources used, morbidities, quality of life (12-Item Short Form Survey, SF-12), and loss of productivity. Patients were excluded if they were retired or on sick leave for another illness. Direct resources included health-related (consultations, tests, medications, hospitalization) or non-health-related (transportation, home adaptation, expenditure on caregivers) hospital resources. Costs were calculated using the unit value of each resource and the quantity consumed. A gamma regression model explored cost predictors for patients with SLE. Results Overall, 300 patients with SLE were included (92.3% female, mean [standard deviation (SD)] disease duration 11.8 [7.9] years), of which 100 patients (33.3%) were on SLE-related sick leave and 46 patients (15.3%) had stopped schooling. Mean (SD) travel time from home to a care facility was 4.4 (12.6) hours. Antimalarials were the most commonly used drugs (222 [74.0%]). A negative correlation was observed between SF-12 physical component and SLE Disease Activity Index (- 0.117, p = 0.042), Systemic Lupus International CollaboratingClinics/AmericanCollegeofRheumatology Damage Index (- 0.115, p = 0.046), medications/day for multiple co-morbidities (- 0.272, p < 0.001), SLE-specific drugs/day (- 0.113, p = 0.051), and lost productivity (- 0.570, p < 0.001). For the mental component, a negative correlation was observed with medications/day for multiple co-morbidities (- 0.272, p < 0.001), SLE-specific medications/day (- 0.113, p = 0.051), and missed appointments (- 0.232, p < 0.001). Mean total SLE cost was US$3,123.53/patient/year (median [interquartile range (IQR)] US$1,618.51 [$678.66, $4,601.29]). Main expenditure was medication, with a median (IQR) cost of US$910.62 ($460, $4,033.51). Mycophenolate increased costs by 3.664 times (p < 0.001), and inflammatory monitoring (erythrocyte sedimentation rate or C-reactive protein) reduced expenditure by 0.381 times (p < 0.001). Conclusion These results allowed access to care patterns, the median cost for patients with SLE in Brazil, and the differences across regions driven by biological, social, and behavioral factors. The cost of SLE provides an updated setting to support the decision-making process across the country. Resumo Introdução: O fígado gordo associado a disfunção metabólica (FGADM) é uma causa crescente de doença hepática crónica. Em 2020, o score Fibroscan-AST (FAST) foi validado internacionalmente como uma nova ferramenta capaz de identificar pacientes com esteatohepatite que beneficiam de terapêuticas adicionais, baseado nos achados da elastografia hepática transitória (EHT) e níveis séricos de aspartato aminotransferase (AST). Os autores procuraram identificar, em pacientes com FGADM, que fatores metabólicos predizem um score-FAST maior. Métodos: Estudo retrospetivo de pacientes com FGADM submetidos a EHT durante 2 anos consecutivos. Pacientes sem uma amostra de AST colhida nos 6 meses prévios à EHT foram excluídos. O score-FAST foi calculado, estratificando o risco do paciente como baixo (<0,35), moderado (0,35-0,67) ou alto (>0,67). Resultados: A amostra incluiu 117 pacientes, 53% do sexo feminino, com uma idade média de 53 anos. Em análise multivariada, pacientes com Diabetes Mellitus tipo 2 (DMT2) (p < 0,001), dislipidemia (p = 0,046) e hábitos tabágicos (p = 0,037) apresentaram valores de score-FAST significativamente maiores. Além disso, os pacientes diabéticos apresentaram não só valores de score-FAST significativamente maiores, como também foram mais frequente classificados como pertencendo ao grupo de alto risco, de acordo com os critérios deste score (OR = 9,2; 95%IC = 1,8-45,5; p = 0,007). Conclusões: Calculando o score-FAST, pacientes com FGADM e DMT2 apresentaram um risco significativamente maior. Esta ferramenta validada poderá ser utilizada para selecionar os pacientes com DMT2 e FGADM que poderão beneficiar de seguimento especializado.

Abstract Background: Metabolic-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) is an increasingly prevalent cause of chronic liver disease. In 2020, the FibroScan-AST (FAST) score was internationally validated as a new tool able to identify patients with steatohepatitis who benefit the most from further therapies, based on liver transient elastography (LTE) findings and serum levels of aspartate aminotransferase (AST). We aimed to identify, in MAFLD patients, which metabolic features may predict a higher FAST score. Methods: Retrospective study of consecutive patients with MAFLD submitted to LTE for two consecutive years. Patients without an AST sample collected within 6 months of the LTE were excluded. FAST score was calculated, stratifying the patient’s risk as low (<0.35), medium (0.35-0.67), or high (>0.67). Results: The sample included 117 patients, 53.0% of the female gender, with a mean age of 53 years. On multivariate analysis, patients with type 2 diabetes (T2DM) (p < 0.001), dyslipidemia (p = 0.046), and smoking habits (p = 0.037) presented with significantly higher FAST score values. Furthermore, diabetic patients did not only present significantly higher FAST scores but were also more frequently assigned to the high-risk group according to FAST score criteria (OR = 9.2; 95% CI = 1.8-45.5; p = 0.007). Conclusions: Calculating the FAST score, patients with T2DM presented a significantly higher risk of having significant fibrosis and steatohepatitis. Physicians may rely on this validated instrument to more easily identify which patients with T2DM and MAFLD benefit the most from a specialized follow-up.

Abstract Obesity is an increasing public health issue around the world. Lifestyle counselling is one of the core competencies of family doctors and can contribute to the prevention, control, and counteract of chronic disease complications. The paucity of resources in primary care practices makes an adequate response challenging. Therefore, a group of health professionals from a primary care public Family Health Unit managed to implement a lifestyle change (LC) consultation. Our aim was to have a positive impact on our patient’s health, as a result of patients’ lifestyle improvement. Our aim is to describe the project; analyse its’ local implementation and contribute to facilitating LC consultations’ implementation in other primary care settings. LC consultations intend a structured approach to unhealthy lifestyles, aiming to decrease excess weight and obesity prevalence and therefore decrease noncommunicable disease incidence in the mid-term and long term. This sort of intervention, carried out by trained professionals applying motivational interview techniques makes it possible to individualize and intensify the intervention, which could improve behaviour change success rate. In the future, it would be important to replicate the project.

Resumo A obesidade constitui um dos principais problemas de saúde pública no mundo. O aconselhamento para a mudança de estilos de vida é uma competência fundamental dos médicos de família (MF) e pode contribuir para a prevenção, controlo e redução do risco de complicações de doenças crónicas. A falta de recursos face às necessidades dificultam uma abordagem concertada. Neste sentido, um grupo de profissionais de cuidados de saúde primários organizou-se para implementar uma consulta dedicada a modificação de estilos de vida (MEV), visando um impacto positivo na saúde da sua população. No presente artigo descreve-se o projeto e a sua operacionalização. A consulta de MEV pretende, de forma estruturada, intervir no controlo e alteração de estilos de vida prejudiciais à saúde dos utentes, com o objetivo de reduzir a prevalência do excesso de peso e obesidade na população e, consequentemente, reduzir a incidência de doenças ligadas ao estilo de vida a médio e longo prazo. Este tipo de intervenção, realizada por profissionais treinados, permite individualizar e intensificar a intervenção com recurso a técnicas de entrevista motivacional, o que pode aumentar a taxa de sucesso da mudança comportamental. No futuro seria proveitoso replicar o projeto, estabelecendo novos polos de consulta.

ABSTRACT. French lavender (Lavandula dentata L.) is of great ornamental, medicinal, and aromatic interest. It is generally propagated vegetatively using stem cuttings. When using artificial lighting, a specific light composition can modify the entire plant phenology and is a factor that can be managed in controlled conditions. This study evaluated the rooting of stem cuttings and growth of lavender under four spectral LED lights. The LED lights used were: T0 (white LED, Roblan®), T1 (AP67 Milky, Valoya®), T2 (NS1, Valoya®), and T3 (AP673L Milky, Valoya®). The first phase evaluated the rooting of stem cuttings and initial development. The plants were then transferred to plastic pots to evaluate plant growth. In both rooting and growing phases, the plant morphological characteristics and water and light efficiencies were evaluated. Nutrient-uptake efficiencies were also evaluated after the growing phase. It was observed that cuttings rooted under the influence of T1 showed greater height. After the growing phase, plants under T3 showed better results in electricity use efficiency, water use efficiency, and nutrient-uptake efficiency and less nitrate leaching. They also presented more uniform growth with a compact canopy. Thus, T1 was better for the stem cuttings rooting phase, while T3 was better for growth and energy efficiency. ABSTRACT Lavandula L. Abstract Preeclampsia remains an important cause of maternal and perinatal mortality and morbidity around the world. Therefore, its early detection and management are vital. The Portuguese antenatal care program for low-risk pregnancies recommends blood pressure measurement and dipstick urinalysis at each antenatal visit. However, dipstick urinalysis has a poor sensitivity for the detection of significant proteinuria. Furthermore, proteinuria is not an essential element for diagnosing pre-eclampsia. Hence, with this review we aim to determine if dipstick urinalysis is a meaningful screening method for pre-eclampsia diagnosis in low-risk pregnancies.

Resumo A pré-eclâmpsia continua a ser uma importante causa de mortalidade e morbidade materna e perinatal. Naturalmente, a sua deteção e gestão atempadas são fundamentais de modo a minimizar os efeitos adversos resultantes da progressão da doença. O programa nacional para a vigilância da gravidez de baixo risco recomenda, para o rastreio desta condição, a medição da pressão arterial e a análise com tira-teste reagente em cada consulta pré-natal. No entanto, a análise da urina com tira-teste reagente tem baixa sensibilidade para a deteção de proteinúria significativa. Para além disso, a proteinúria não é um elemento essencial no diagnóstico de pré-eclâmpsia. Assim, com esta revisão, pretendemos determinar se a análise da urina com tira-teste reagente é um bom método de rastreio da pré-eclâmpsia na gravidez de baixo risco.

Resumo Introdução: O linfoma de tecido linfoide associado à mucosa (MALT) é relativamente incomum, representando 5% de todos os linfomas não-Hodgkin. O local de envolvimento extra-nodal mais comum é o trato gastrointestinal, com a maioria dos casos a afetar o estômago (até 75% de todos os linfomas de MALT gastrointestinais). O envolvimento primário do cólon ocorre apenas em 2.5% dos doentes, sendo mais comummente observado como lesão polipoide única em avaliação endoscópica. Apresentação de caso: Apresentamos o caso de uma mulher de 61 anos, cuja colonoscopia após pesquisa de sangue oculto nas fezes positiva evidenciou lesões pseudo-polipoides superficialmente erosionadas no cólon ascendente proximal e no ângulo hepático. A análise histológica (microscópica e imunohistoquímica) de ambas as lesões foi concordante e compatível com linfoma de MALT. A tomografia computorizada de estadiamento revelou lesões nodulares pulmonares concomitantes, a maior localizada no lobo superior esquerdo com cerca de 34 mm. Devido ao estado disseminado da doença, a doente foi proposta para terapêutica sistémica com bendamustina e rituximab. À data de submissão deste caso, a doente continuava assintomática e sob tratamento com quimioterapia. Conclusão: Com este caso clínico pretendemos salientar a diversidade de apresentações possíveis no linfoma de MALT, bem como as suas localizações mais atípicas para as quais todos os gastroenterologistas devem estar atentos e com baixo limiar de suspeição.

Abstract Introduction: Mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) lymphoma is relatively uncommon and accounts for only 5% of all non-Hodgkin lymphomas. The most common site of extranodal involvement is the gastrointestinal (GI) tract, with most cases affecting the stomach (up to 75% of all GI MALT lymphomas). Colonic disease occurs in only 2.5% of cases, most commonly manifesting as a single polypoid lesion on endoscopic evaluation. Case Presentation: We present the case of a 61-year-old woman whose colonoscopy (after a positive fecal occult blood test as part of colorectal cancer screening) revealed superficially ulcerated pseudo-polypoid lesions in the ascending proximal colon and hepatic flexure; microscopical and immunohistochemical analysis of the tissue sample was compatible with MALT lymphoma. Staging computed tomography showed concomitant nodular pulmonary lesions, the largest being located in the superior left lobe and 34 mm in size. Due to the disseminated state of the disease, systemic treatment with bendamustine and rituximab was initiated. Up to the time of submitting this paper, the patient was still asymptomatic and under chemotherapy treatment. Conclusion: With this case report, we aim to demonstrate the diversity of presentation of MALT lymphoma as well as its less typical locations; gastroenterologists should have an awareness of these and a low suspicion threshold.

Resumo Introdução: A infeção do trato urinário (ITU) é a segunda infeção mais frequente da comunidade. Objetivos: Determinar os micro-organismos responsáveis pelas ITU nos cuidados de saúde primários e o seu perfil de sensibilidade aos antibióticos, bem como avaliar se a abordagem das ITU está a ser feita de acordo com as recomendações da DGS. Métodos: Estudo observacional e retrospetivo em quatro USF de Almada. Foram incluídos os utentes de idade igual ou superior a 18 anos, a quem foram codificados os problemas do ICPC-2 (U71-Cistite/Infeção Urinária Outra e U70-Pielonefrite/Pielite), de julho a dezembro de 2019. A recolha da informação foi feita através do programa informático SClínico e da plataforma MIM@UF. As variáveis estudadas foram: sexo, idade, tipo de ITU, pedido de urocultura, antibioterapia empírica, resultado da urocultura e teste de sensibilidade aos antimicrobianos. Resultados: Das 963 ITU, 88,3% ocorreram em mulheres, principalmente entre os 68 e 77 anos (18,9%). O tipo de ITU mais prevalente foi a cistite não complicada na mulher não grávida (56,3%). A antibioterapia empírica foi prescrita em 86,7% dos casos, sendo a fosfomicina o antibiótico mais utilizado (58,6%). Foram feitos 405 pedidos de urocultura, na sua maioria com resultado positivo. O micro-organismo mais frequentemente identificado foi a E. coli (66,4%), sendo o mais prevalente em todos os grupos etários e nos diferentes tipos de ITU, e sensível em 63,7% dos casos à fosfomicina. Na análise global das diferentes unidades verificou-se que a urocultura foi pedida em concordância com a norma da DGS em 70,4% dos casos e que a antibioterapia empírica esteve de acordo com a DGS em 63% dos casos. Conclusões: Neste estudo conclui-se que as ITU são mais frequentes nas mulheres entre os 68 e 77 anos. O micro-organismo mais prevalente é a E.coli, apresentando uma sensibilidade significativa à fosfomicina e à nitrofurantoína.

Abstract Introduction: Urinary tract infection (UTI) is the second most prevalent infection in the community. Aims: To determine the microorganisms responsible for UTI in Primary Health Care and their profile of sensitivity to antibiotics, as well as to evaluate if the approach of the UTI is concordant with the National Health Authority’s recommendations. Methods: Observational and retrospective study in four primary health care centers in Almada. Patients aged 18 years or older, whose appointments were coded with ICPC-2’s problems (U71-Cystitis/Urinary Infection Other and U70-Pyelonephritis/Pyelitis) between July and December 2019 were included. The SClínico software and the MIM@UF platform were chosen to collect data. The variables studied were: sex, age, type of UTI, urine culture request, empirical antibiotics, the result of urine culture, and antimicrobial sensitivity test. Results: Of the 963 UTIs, 88.3% occurred in women, mainly between 68 and 77 years old (18.9%). The most prevalent type of UTI was uncomplicated cystitis in non-pregnant women (56.3%). Empirical antibiotic therapy was prescribed in 86.7% of the cases, with fosfomycin being the most used one (58.6%). Four hundred and five urine culture requests were made, most of them with a positive result. E. coli was the most frequently identified microorganism (66.4%), being the most prevalent in all age groups and in the different types of UTI. It was sensitive to fosfomycin in 63.7% of cases. In the global analysis of the different units, it was found that urine culture was in accordance with the national recommendation in 70.4% of the cases and that empirical antibiotics were in accordance in 63% of the UTI cases. Conclusions: UTIs in the community are more frequent in women between 68 and 77 years old. The most prevalent bacterial microorganism is E.coli, with significant sensitivity to fosfomycin and nitrofurantoin.

Abstract Introduction: Although upper gastrointestinal bleeding (UGIB) management has improved substantially in the last decades, there is still much controversy regarding the optimal timing for performance of endoscopy. Recent guidelines suggest performing an early endoscopy within 24 h of nonvariceal UGIB (NVUGIB) presentation, although its impact on patients with different bleeding risks remains unclear. Aim: To evaluate the impact of performing endoscopy within 24 h on NVUGIB outcomes and to compare it in patients with lower-risk vs. higher-risk bleeding. Methods: This is a retrospective cohort study including consecutive patients undergoing upper endoscopy for suspected NVUGIB over 4 years. Demographic, clinical, biochemical, endoscopic, and outcome data were collected. Lower-risk bleeding was defined as a Glasgow-Blatchford score (GBS) <12 and higher-risk bleeding was defined as a GBS ≥12. Results: A total of 298 patients with suspected NVUGIB were included, 55% of whom had higher-risk bleeding. Endoscopy was performed within 24 h in 62.1% of the patients. In lower-risk bleeding patients, performance of endoscopy within 24 h was associated with a higher need for endoscopic treatment (OR = 2.6; 95% CI 1.2-5.7; p = 0.004), a lower 30-day mortality (OR = 0.41; 95% CI 0.27-0.63; p = 0.03), and a lower need for transfusion (OR = 0.58; 95% CI 0.36-0.92; p = 0.02). In higher-risk bleeding patients, there were no statistically significant differences in NVUGIB outcomes in performing endoscopy within 24 h. Conclusion: Endoscopy within 24 h of presentation was associated with a lower need for transfusion, a higher need for endoscopic treatment, and a lower 30-day mortality in lower-risk NVUGIB patients. Thus, performing endoscopy within the first 24 h of presentation can have a positive impact on NVUGIB outcomes even in lower-risk bleeding.

Apesar das guidelines recentes sugerirem a realização de endoscopia precoce nas primeiras 24 horas de apresentação, o seu impacto em pacientes com estra tificações de risco distintas permanece por esclarecer. Objetivo: Avaliar o impacto da realização de endoscopia precoce nos diferentes outcomes de HDA não varicosa em doentes de baixo e alto risco. Métodos: Estudo de coorte retrospetivo incluindo pacientes submetidos consecutivamente a endoscopia por suspeita de HDANV, durante 4 anos. Foram obtidos dados demográficos, clínicos, bioquímicos, endoscópicos e outcomes adversos. Baixo risco foi definido como score Glasgow-Blatchford <12 e alto risco como ≥12. Resultados: Foram incluídos 298 pacientes, 55% sendo de alto risco. A endoscopia foi efetuada nas primeiras 24 horas em 62.1% dos pacientes. Em doentes de baixo risco, realizar endoscopia nas primeiras 24 horas associou-se a maior necessidade de terapêutica endoscópica [OR 2.6, IC 1.2-5.7; p = 0.004], menor mortalidade a 30 dias [OR 0.41, IC 0.27-0.63; p = 0.03] e menor necessidade de transfusão [OR 0.58, IC 0.36-0.92; p = 0.02]. Em doentes de alto risco não houve diferenças estatisticamente significativas nos outcomes pelo facto de efetuar endoscopia precoce. Conclusão: Realizar endoscopia nas primeiras 24 horas de apresentação de HDANV foi associado a menor necessidade de transfusão, maior necessidade de terapêutica endoscópica e menor mortalidade a 30 dias em pacientes de baixo risco. Assim, efetuar endoscopia precoce pode ter um impacto positivo nos outcomes da HDANV, mesmo nos doentes que à partida têm menor risco de outcomes adversos.

Resumo Esta pesquisa buscou conhecer as concepções de profissionais de psicologia no Brasil em relação à sua identidade profissional e à especificidade da intervenção psicológica, explorando nuances da representação social em torno da sua própria atuação. Empregou-se método misto, de cunho exploratório e descritivo, tendo como amostra 670 psicólogos e psicólogas brasileiros(as) de diferentes faixas etárias e regiões do país. Foi aplicado questionário virtual contendo questões fechadas sobre dados sociodemográficos e questões abertas sobre a identidade profissional. O material produzido com as respostas foi submetido à análise de conteúdo, com o auxílio do software IRaMuTeQ. Os resultados apontam que a identidade profissional das(os) participantes aparece muito associada ao modelo clínico de intervenção, tendo como enfoque o cuidado diante do adoecimento psíquico, ainda que diversos elementos indiquem um gradativo movimento em prol de materializar o compromisso social da profissão no atendimento às demandas emergentes do país.

Abstract This study investigates hoe Brazilian psychologists’ conceptualize their professional identity and the specificity of psychological intervention, exploring the nuances of social representation regarding their own performance. A descriptive, exploratory, mixed methods research was conducted with 670 Brazilian psychologists from different age groups and regions. Data was collected by means of a online questionnaire containing closed questions on sociodemographic variables, and open questions concerning professional identity. The material produced underwent content analysis, using the IRaMuTeQ software. Results show that the professionals’ identity appears to be closely associated with the clinical model of intervention, focused on care in face of a mental illness, although several elements indicate a gradual shift towards materializing the psychologist’s social commitment in meeting the country’s emerging demands.

Resumen Esta investigación pretendió conocer las ideas de los profesionales de la psicología en Brasil sobre su identidad profesional y la especificidad de la intervención psicológica, explorando matices de la representación social de su propria actuación. Se utilizó el método mixto, exploratorio y descriptivo, con una muestra de 670 psicólogos y psicólogas brasileños/as de distintos grupos de edad y regiones del país. Se aplicó un cuestionario virtual, que contenía cuestiones cerradas sobre datos sociodemográficos y cuestiones abiertas acerca de la identidad profesional. El material producido a partir de las respuestas fue sometido a análisis de contenido, contando con la ayuda del software IRaMuTeQ. Los resultados apuntan a que la identidad profesional de las/los participantes estuvo muy asociada al modelo clínico de intervención, teniendo como enfoque el cuidado frente a la enfermedad psíquica, aunque diversos elementos indiquen un gradual movimiento por materializar el compromiso social de la profesión en la atención a las demandas emergentes del país.

Resumen El presente estudio evaluó el efecto de la inoculación de hongos micorrízicos arbuscu lares (AMF) en el crecimiento y la nutrición de plántulas de Euterpe edulis en ausencia y presencia de fertilización con fosfato. El experimento se realizó en invernadero. El diseño de bloques al azar, consistió en un arreglo factorial 3x2, con 4 repeticiones, dos dosis de fósforo (0 y 50 mg dm-3 de suelo), dos tratamientos microbiológicos (Rhizophagus clarus; Claroideoglomus etunicatum; R. clarus + C. etunicatum) y un testigo (sin hongos). La siembra y la inoculación ocurrieron simultáneamente en bolsas de plástico de 2 kg. Después de 226 días, se determinó altura, diámetro de cuello, área foliar, masa seca del brote, el contenido de macronutrientes y el porcentaje de colonización micorrízica. R. clarus resultó superior, considerándose entonces una especie fúngica beneficiosa para las plántulas de E. edulis. En ausencia de fertilización con fosfato, R. clarus y el inóculo mixto aumentaron todas las variables biométricas en comparación con el testigo. Además, se observó un aumento en el contenido de macronutrientes en las plántulas.

Abstract The present study evaluated the effect of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) inoculation on growth and nutrition of Euterpe edulis seedlings, supplemented or not with phosphate fertilization. The experiment was conducted in a greenhouse. The randomized block design, consisted of a 3x2 factorial arrangement and 4 replicates, with two phosphorus doses (0 and 50 mg dm-3 of soil), two microbiological treatments (Rhizophagus clarus; Claroideoglomus etunicatum; R. clarus + C. etunicatum) and control (without fungus). Sowing and inoculation occurred concurrently in 2 kg plastic bags. Height, collar diameter, leaf area, dry shoot mass, macronutrient content and mycorrhizal colonization percentage were determined after 226 days. Regarding mycorrhizal colonization percentage, R. clarus resulted significantly beneficial for the production of E. edulis seedlings. In the absence of phosphate fertilization, R. clarus and mixed inoculum increased all biometric variables and macronutrient contents in seedlings. Therefore, it is concluded that AMF inoculations provide beneficial effects for growth and nutrition of E. edulis seedlings, resulting in more vigorous plants at a low-cost strategy.

RESUMO INTRODUÇÃO: A acne é uma patologia crónica inflamatória da pele que apresenta elevada prevalência e um forte impacto psicossocial. O papel da alimentação, nomeadamente dos laticínios, na acne é incerto. OBJETIVOS: Com esta revisão pretende-se determinar se existe relação entre o consumo de produtos lácteos e a acne. METODOLOGIA: Pesquisa sistemática não quantitativa (revisão baseada em evidência) da evidência científica publicada entre 2010 e 2021 em bases de dados electrónicas, utilizando os termos MeSH “Dairy Products” ou “Milk” ou “Cheese” ou “Yogurt” e “Acne Vulgaris" e “Humans”. RESULTADOS: Encontraram-se 36 artigos, dos quais sete cumpriram os critérios de inclusão: uma recomendação, duas Revisões Sistemáticas com Meta-análise, um estudo observacional transversal e três estudos caso-controlo. Três artigos mostraram uma associação entre o consumo de laticínios (sem discriminação) e acne. Cinco dos seis artigos que avaliaram o consumo de leite de forma individualizada mostraram uma associação entre o consumo de leite e a presença de acne. Dos quatro artigos que avaliaram o consumo de iogurte de forma isolada, apenas um encontrou uma associação com desenvolvimento de acne. A evidência foi contraditória no caso do queijo. CONCLUSÕES: Parece existir uma associação entre o consumo de leite e desenvolvimento de acne. Porém, a evidência é inconsistente relativamente a outros derivados do leite pelo que são necessários mais estudos que clarifiquem esta relação.

ABSTRACT INTRODUCTION: Acne is a chronic inflammatory skin condition that has a high prevalence and a strong psychosocial impact. The role of diet, specially dairy products, in acne is uncertain. OBJECTIVES: With this review we intend to determine if there is an association between dairy products’ consumption and acne. METHODOLOGY: Search for scientific evidence published between 2010 and 2021 in electronic databases using the MeSH terms “Dairy Products” or “Milk” or “Cheese” or “Yogurt” and “Acne Vulgaris" and “Humans”. RESULTS: We obtained 36 articles, seven that accomplished the inclusion criteria: one guideline, two systematic reviews with metanalysis, one cross-sectional study and three case control studies. Three studies found an association between acne and unspecified dairy consumption. Five out of six studies that studied milk consumption showed that it was associated with acne. Only one out of four studies that studied yogurt consumption found an acne-milk association. Evidence is controversial as to cheese. CONCLUSIONS: To summarize, there seems to be an association between milk consumption and acne development. However, the evidence is controversial as to other dairy products. Further studies are needed to clarify this relationship.

RESUMO O jambu possui espilantol e compostos fenólicos responsáveis por muitas de suas propriedades medicinais. Além de melhorar a absorção de nutrientes, os fungos micorrízicos arbusculares (FMA) podem alterar a produção de metabólitos secundários. Assim, objetivou-se avaliar a influência da inoculação de FMA e doses de P na produção de biomassa seca da parte aérea, conteúdo dos macronutrientes (N, P, K, Ca e Mg), conteúdo de fenóis totais e concentração de espilantol em plantas de jambu. O experimento foi conduzido em delineamento blocos ao acaso, em esquema fatorial 3x4, com dois FMA (Rhizophagus clarus e Claroideoglomus etunicatum) e sem FMA, em quatro doses de P (0, 30, 60 e 90 mg/kg de solo), com quatro repetições. Plantas inoculadas com R. clarus e C. etunicatum, cultivadas sem adubação fosfatada, apresentaram incremento de 23 e 12 vezes, respectivamente, na biomassa seca da parte aérea, em comparação com plantas sem FMAs. A concentração de espilantol nas plantas inoculadas com R. clarus, sem adubação fosfatada foi 2,4%. A produção da biomassa seca da parte aérea das plantas de jambu e também os conteúdos de P, K, Ca, e Mg são maiores quando inoculadas com R. clarus nas menores doses de P. Essa espécie de FMA, também aumenta os conteúdos de fenóis totais nas plantas, quando adubadas com 60 mg kg-1. A dose 60 mg kg-1 de P aumenta a concentração de espilantol nas plantas de jambu quando inoculadas com C. etunicatum.

ABSTRACT Jambu has spilanthol and phenolic compounds that are responsible for several medicinal properties. Besides improving nutrient absorption, arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) can change secondary metabolites’ yield. Thus, the aim of the current study was to evaluate AMF inoculation and P influence on shoot dry biomass yield, macronutrient content (N, P, K, Ca and Mg), total phenol contents and spilanthol percentage in jambu plants. The experiment followed a randomized block design at 3x4 factorial arrangement, with two AMF (Rhizophagus clarus and Claroideoglomus etunicatum) and without AMF, at four P doses (0, 30, 60 and 90 mg/kg of soil), with four replicates. Plants inoculated with R. clarus and C. etunicatum, grown without phosphate fertilization, presented increase by 23 and 12 times, respectively, in comparison to plants without AMF. The relative spilanthol area in plants inoculated with R. clarus, without phosphate fertilization, reached 2.4%. Shoot dry biomass yield of jambu plants and the P, K, Ca and Mg contents were higher when plants were inoculated with R. clarus at the lowest P doses. The AMF also increased the contents of total phenols in plants fertilized with 60 mg kg-1. This P dose increased spilanthol concentration in jambu plants inoculated with C. etunicatum.

ABSTRACT. To diagnose and monitor the nutritional status of commercial crops, reference standards must be established based on chemical analyses of soils and leaf tissues. Therefore, the objective of this study was to establish sufficiency ranges, DRIS standards and leaf nutritional diagnoses for palisade grass pastures in the rainy and dry seasons. Of a total of 105 sampled pastures, the 20 highest-yielding areas were used to establish reference standards. In the other, low-productivity pastures, the nutritional status was diagnosed in both the rainy and dry seasons for nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), potassium (K), calcium (Ca), magnesium (Mg), sulfur (S), boron (B), copper (Cu), iron (Fe), nickel (Ni), molybdenum (Mo), and zinc (Zn). A productivity of 15 tons ha-1 year-1 was determined as the threshold to separate high-yielding (> 15 tons ha-1 year-1) pastures from low-productivity pastures (< 15 tons ha-1 year-1). Sufficiency ranges and foliar DRIS standards were established for palisade grass pastures in the rainy and dry seasons, which resulted in the recommendation of region- and season-specific sufficiency ranges and DRIS leaf standards. In the rainy season, in more than 50% of the evaluated pastures, nutritional deficiencies in all nutrients except K, B and Zn were observed, while in the dry season, only N, P, Cu, and Mn were deficient.
