RESUMO O feijão-fava é uma cultura importante no Nordeste do Brasil, sendo fonte de alimentação e renda para os agricultores da região. Estudos genéticos com a espécie são escassos, o que limita o conhecimento disponível para ser usado em programas de melhoramento. Assim, objetivou-se estimar a relação entre caracteres relacionados ao ciclo e à produção de grãos, por meio da análise de correlações canônicas, e identificar caracteres que possam ser utilizados na seleção indireta em feijão-fava. O experimento foi instalado no Departamento de Fitotecnia, do Centro de Ciências Agrárias, da Universidade Federal do Piauí, em Teresina - PI, no delineamento de blocos cazualizados, com cinco repetições, no qual foram avaliados 11 caracteres agronômicos em seis populações F3 de feijão-fava, geradas de cruzamentos bi parentais, no ano de 2019. Os dados obtidos foram submetidos à análise de correlações canônicas, por meio do ambiente virtual R, mostrando que o primeiro coeficiente do par canônico foi significativo (r = 0.5531) pelo teste qui-quadrado, o que indica dependência entre os grupos estudados. Assim, existe associação linear entre os caracteres relacionados ao ciclo e à produção de grãos em feijão-fava, sendo que número de dias até o início da floração, número de dias para maturação, comprimento da vagem, largura da semente e espessura da semente são os que mais contribuem para a associação entre grupos.

ABSTRACT Lima bean is an important crop in Northeastern Brazil and a source of food and income for farmers in the region. However, there have been few genetic studies on this species, which limits the knowledge available for use in breeding programs. The objective of this study was to estimate the relationship between cycle and production traits using canonical correlation analysis and to identify traits that can be used for the indirect selection of lima bean. The experiment was conducted at the Department of Plant Science of the Universidade Federal do Piauí, Teresina, in a randomized block design with five replications, in which 11 agronomic traits from six lima bean populations in the F3 generation originating from biparental crosses were evaluated in 2019. The data were subjected to canonical correlation analysis using the virtual environment R. The results showed that only the first coefficient of the canonical pair was significant (r = 0.5531) by the quisquare test, suggesting that the studied groups were not independent, as the cycle traits showed coefficients of large magnitudes in the relationship between groups. The canonical correlation results suggested that there is a linear association between cycle and production traits in lima beans, in which days to flowering, days to maturation, pod length, seed width, and seed thickness contribute the most to the association between groups.

RESUMO Há poucas fontes de resistência genética a nematoides-de-galha relatadas em algodoeiro, e não há cultivares no Brasil que combinem simultaneamente resistência e bons atributos agronômicos. Técnicas que possibilitem selecionar eficientemente fontes de resistência genética promissoras são necessárias. Objetivou-se identificar genótipos de algodoeiro resistentes a Meloidogyne incognita raça 3, por meio de REML/Blup. O experimento foi inteiramente casualizado, com 32 genótipos e sete repetições, em ambiente protegido. Foi utilizado o modelo estatístico 83. Foram estimados a massa de raízes, população final, fator de reprodução e índice de reprodução. A população final e o índice de reprodução apresentaram os maiores valores de variância genotípica e coeficientes de variação genética, sinalizando situação favorável à seleção de genótipos de algodão resistentes ao nematoide. A herdabilidade média do genótipo (h2mg) foi superior a 85 % para população final, fator de reprodução e índice de reprodução, abrindo a possibilidade de sucesso de seleção com base nas médias dos genótipos. Os genótipos CS8601, SA2572, Coodetec 404 e BJ 3128 são promissores para cruzamentos visando à seleção de genótipos resistentes ao nematoide.

ABSTRACT Few genetic resistance sources to root-knot nematodes are known for cotton, and there are no cultivars combining both resistance and good agronomic attributes in Brazil. Techniques that allow an efficient selection of promising sources of genetic resistance are needed. This study aimed to identify cotton genotypes resistant to Meloidogyne incognita race 3 via REML/Blup. The experiment was completely randomized, with 32 genotypes and seven replicates, in a protected environment. The statistical model 83 was used. The root weight, final population, reproduction factor and reproduction index were estimated. The final population and reproduction index presented the highest values for genotypic variance and genetic variation coefficients, indicating a favorable situation for the selection of cotton genotypes resistant to the nematode. The mean heritability (h2mg) of the genotype was higher than 85 % for the final population, reproduction factor and reproduction index, opening a possibility of selection success based on genotype means. The genotypes CS8601, SA2572, Coodetec 404 and BJ 3128 are promising for crosses aiming the selection of genotypes resistant to the nematode.

Abstract The exploration of heterosis can be an efficient alternative to increase okra yield. The partial diallel strategy optimizes resources by guiding crosses based on genetic diversity between various genotypes. This study aimed to identify potential hybrid combinations through diallel analysis in comparison with commercial cultivars. The hybrids were evaluated by means of a partial diallel scheme based on the genetic divergence of the genotypes. Fourteen hybrids and their reciprocals were evaluated in the winter and summer conditions of Jaboticabal - SP for yield, number of fruits and precocity. No line showed significant general combining ability. The reciprocal effect was not significant for the evaluated characteristics. Four hybrid combinations showed significant and positive specific combining ability for number of fruits, which were considered promising hybrids. In the winter, the experimental hybrids 1 x 8 and 3 x 8 showed superior performance compared to the commercial hybrids. No significant differences were observed in the summer.

Abstract The present study selected progenies, aiming at the production of green corn, by methods of intrapopulation recurrent selection with subsequent recombination, generating open-pollinated populations. To this end, in the 2017/2018 second season, progenies from the PMVJ01 population (originated from the recombination of progenies of the TG-02R2 x AG1051 cross) were evaluated, using PMVJ01 and the hybrid AG1051 as controls. The following parameters were evaluated: flowering, heights, green ear yield, husk cover, ear diameter and length, mass yield, ear shape, number of rows on the ear, alignment of rows, color of kernels, and husk width and length. Genetic parameters were estimated, and the gain was predicted with the selection of 20% of the progenies, using the index of Mulamba and Mock in four selection procedures and a fifth by multivariate method. Genetic variability was found in the population, which allows advances in the selection process. After recombination, two of the populations generated showed potential for use as open-pollinated cultivar.

ABSTRACT In plant breeding programs, the selection of potential progenies in early generations of inbreeding is an essential step. Considering that, the adoption of topcrosses helps the breeder in the selection, this study aimed to verify the potential of S2 strains for synthesis of synthetic varieties and to obtain experimental information on yield and agronomic potential of topcross hybrids. As such, 75 topcross hybrids were generated from crossing 75 S2 lines with F2 generation of the commercial hybrid. The 75 hybrids were grown in a field, along with two commercial hybrids in a randomized complete block design with 4 replicates and in 4-meter plots. Flowering, plant height, height, diameter, length and weight in the ear, and grain yield traits were examined. Analysis of variance was performed, the combining ability was estimated, and, from the means, the Scott & Knott test was conducted. So, the topcross hybrids that distinguished themselves for grain yield were those composed by lines 67, 14, 44, and 69, presenting high CGA, therefore indicating good potential for producing synthetic or base population. For the other traits of agronomic interest that were assessed in maize, a potential for selection with different focuses was found: reduction of cycle and height and increase in length and diameter of the ear.

Resumo: O objetivo deste trabalho foi determinar a estratégia seletiva mais adequada para o incremento simultâneo de componentes da produção de milho verde, pela comparação de três índices de seleção, ponderados por pesos econômicos, e pelo método REML/BLUP, na avaliação de ganhos genéticos previstos para os caracteres de interesse. Um ensaio com 75 híbridos topcross, de linhagens S1 parcialmente endogâmicas de milho-verde foi implementado em Jataí, GO, Brasil, tendo-se utilizado um delineamento de blocos ao acaso, com quatro repetições. As seguintes características de produtividade foram avaliadas: espigas empalhadas e espigas comerciais, massa de grãos, comprimento de espiga, diâmetro de espiga e número de fileiras da espiga. Os índices de seleção de Smith e Hazel, Williams e de Mulamba & Mock foram aplicados e ponderados por quatro pesos econômicos (1, CVg, CVg/CVe e h2). Entre os índices de seleção testados, o de Williams e os de Mulamba & Mock são os melhores para a seleção de híbridos de milho verde, pois proporcionam ganhos de seleção positivos e mais equilibrados em todos os caracteres avaliados. O método REML/BLUP apresenta melhores ganhos genéticos preditos do que os obtidos pelos três índices de seleção estudados, além de ser eficiente para a seleção de híbridos topcross de milho verde.

Abstract: The objective of this work was to define the most suitable selective strategy for the simultaneous increment of yield components of green maize, by comparing three selection indexes weighted by economic weights and by the REML/BLUP method, in the assessment of predicted genetic gains for traits of interest. An experiment with 75 topcross hybrids from partially inbred S1 lines of green maize was carried out in Jataí, in the state of Goiás, Brazil, using a randomized complete block design, with four replicates. The following yield traits were evaluated: straw ears and commercial ears, grain mass, ear length, ear diameter, and number of ear rows. The selection indexes of Smith and Hazel, Williams, and Mulamba & Mock were applied and weighted for four economic weights (1, CVg, CVg/CVe, and h2). Among the tested selection indexes, those of Williams and Mulamba & Mock are the best-fit ones for the selection of topcross hybrids of green maize, as they provide positive and more balanced selection gains for all evaluated traits. The REML/BLUP method shows better predicted genetic gains than those achieved by the three selection indexes, besides being efficient for the selection of topcross hybrids of green maize.

ABSTRACT Root-knot nematodes are among the main agents that negatively affect the pepper and sweet pepper crop (Capsicum annuum L.), especially Meloidogyne incognita, M. javanica, and M. enterolobii. The objective of this study was to evaluate genotypes of C. annuum L. var. annuum in their response to infection by M. incognita race 3, M. javanica, and M. enterolobii. The experiment was conducted using a completely randomized design arranged in a 27 × 3 factorial scheme with six replicates and each plot consisted of one plant. The experiment was carried out at the UNESP-FCAV in Jaboticabal, Sao Paulo, Brazil. The genotypes were in plastic pots containing an autoclaved mixture of soil, sand, and bovine manure under greenhouse conditions, and they were evaluated for the reproduction index and reproduction factor at 90 d after inoculation. Thirteen genotypes were classified as resistant, based on the reproductive factor, and highly resistant, based on the reproduction index, to M. javanica, while six were resistant and highly resistant materials to M. incognita race 3. No materials resistant to M. enterolobii were identified. The genotypes CNPH 698, CNPH 701, CNPH 702, CNPH 717, and CNPH 718 were simultaneously classified as resistant to M. incognita race 3 and M. javanica based on the reproduction factor.

Resumo: O objetivo deste trabalho foi estimar a estabilidade e a adaptabilidade genotípica de linhagens avançadas e cultivares de alface-crespa (Lactuca sativa), em diferentes sistemas de cultivos e épocas, pelo modelo misto REML/Blup. Foram avaliados dez genótipos de alface, sete sistemas de cultivo e duas épocas, em 2015. Avaliaram-se os caracteres de produção das plantas, e os dados foram submetidos ao programa Selegen-REML/Blup. A estabilidade e a adaptabilidade genotípica foram analisadas pelos métodos da média harmônica dos valores genotípicos (MHVG) e do desempenho relativo dos valores genotípicos (PRVG), respectivamente. A média harmônica do PRVG (MHPRVG) foi utilizada para estimar simultaneamente a estabilidade, a adaptabilidade e a produtividade das linhagens e das cultivares. Ao se considerar a análise conjunta das duas épocas para o conjunto dos caracteres, as linhagens L6, L7 e L8 foram selecionadas como promissoras e recomendadas para plantio. As linhagens selecionadas para todas as épocas apresentam bons rendimentos e são consideradas superiores às cultivares comerciais Vanda e Vera.

Abstract: The objective of this work was to estimate the stability and genotypic adaptability of advanced lines and cultivars of curled green-leaf lettuce (Lactuca sativa), in different growing environments and seasons, using the REML/Blup mixed model. Ten genotypes, seven cropping environments, and two growing seasons were studied in 2015. Plant yield traits were evaluated, and data were subjected to the Selegen-REML/Blup software. Genotype stability and adaptability were analyzed using the harmonic mean of genotypic values (HMGV) and the relative performance of genotypic values (RPGV), respectively. The harmonic mean of RPGV (HMRPGV) was used to simultaneously estimate the stability, adaptability, and yield of breeding lines or cultivars. Considering the combined analysis of the two seasons for the set of traits, the lines L6, L7, and L8 were selected as promising ones and recommended for planting. The breeding lines selected for all season exhibit good yield and are considered superior to the commercial cultivars Vanda and Vera.

RESUMO Sob condições controladas em câmara tipo BOD, oito linhagens de alface crespa e a cultivar Solaris, foram avaliadas por meio de um índice de latência (IL) como medida da severidade do míldio, e a resposta de resistência por meio da porcentagem de plântulas com esporângios (PE), quando inoculadas com nove raças de Bremia lactucae isoladamente e com a única mistura de todas as raças. O IL e a PE nas linhagens foram inferiores aos apresentados na cultivar Solaris utilizada como padrão de suscetibilidade. As linhagens L1, L2, L3 e L4, foram altamente resistentes quando inoculadas (PE=0,0%) com às nove raças/mistura, as linhagens L5, L6, L7 e L8, dependendo da raça/mistura inoculada apresentaram alto nível de resistência (PE=0-4,6%), resistência incompleta (PE=6,0-15,1%), e a linhagem L5 apresentou reação heterogênea de resistência e suscetibilidade à raça SPBl:07 (PE=27,9% ).

ABSTRACT Under controlled conditions in a BOD chamber, eight lines of green leaf lettuce and the cultivar Solaris were evaluated by means of a latency index (IL) as a measure of downy mildew severity, while the resistance response was assessed based on the percentage of seedlings with sporangia (PE) when inoculated with nine races of Bremia lactucae alone and with one single mixture of all races. The IL and PE for the lines were inferior to those shown for the cultivar Solaris, used as the susceptibility standard. The lines L1, L2, L3 and L4 were highly resistant when inoculated (PE = 0.0%) with the nine races/mixture; the lines L5, L6, L7 and L8, depending on the inoculated race/mixture, showed high resistance level (PE = 0-4.6%) and incomplete resistance (PE = 6.0-15.1%), and the line L5 presented a heterogeneous resistance and susceptibility reaction to race SPBl:07 (PE = 27.9%).

RESUMO: Com o objetivo de avaliar o controle genético da resistência do melão ‘Gaúcho Redondo’ ao nematoide de galha Meloidogyne incognita, foi conduzido um experimento em blocos casualizados com três blocos e seis tratamentos, os quais envolveram as linhas parentais ‘Gaúcho Redondo’ (P1, resistente) e JAB 20 (P2, suscetível), assim como as gerações F1, F2, e retrocruzamentos (RC1P1 e RC1P2). Avaliaram-se plantas individuais após 70 dias da inoculação com o patógeno, por meio do fator de reprodução do nematoide (FR). A hipótese de herança monogênica foi rejeitada pelo teste do qui-quadrado (χ2), indicando que a resistência está sob controle de mais de um loci gênico, sendo confirmado pela análise quantitativa, que evidenciou a presença de seis genes.

ABSTRACT: In order to assess the genetic control of resistance in the melon ‘Gaúcho Redondo’ to the root-knot nematode Meloidogyne incognita, an experiment was conducted in a randomized complete block design with three blocks and six treatments using the parental lines ‘Gaúcho Redondo’ (P1 resistant) and JAB 20 (P2 susceptible), as well as F1, F2, and backcross generations (RC1P1 and RC1P2). Seventy days after inoculation, individual plants were evaluated for resistance using the nematode reproduction factor (RF). The hypothesis of monogenic inheritance was rejected by the chi-square test (χ2), and results indicated that resistance is controlled by more than one gene locus, as confirmed by the quantitative analysis that revealed the presence of six genes.

RESUMO O melão é uma das culturas de grande importância econômica no Brasil, especialmente para o Nordeste. Contudo, à medida que seu cultivo é intensificado, surgem problemas fitossanitários, dentre eles os causados por nematoides, cujo controle tem como medida mais efetiva o uso de cultivares resistentes. Objetivou-se avaliar a reação de genótipos de meloeiro quanto à hospedabilidade de Meloidogyne incognita e M. javanica. O ensaio foi conduzido em condições de casa-de-vegetação, utilizando-se delineamento inteiramente casualizado, em esquema fatorial 2 x 15, com seis repetições. Foram avaliados 15 genótipos de meloeiro, e o tomateiro 'Santa Cruz Kada' foi utilizado como padrão de suscetibilidade. Para avaliação da reação dos genótipos, utilizadram-se o número total de ovos e juvenis nas raízes e o fator de reprodução. Nenhum dos genótipos foi resistente a M. incognita. Oito genótipos foram classificados como resistentes a M. javanica e promissores para emprego em programas de melhoramento genético do meloeiro.

ABSTRACT Melon is one of the most economically important crops cultivated in Brazil, especially in the Northeast region. However, as its cultivation increases, phytosanitary problems arise, including those caused by nematodes, which are most effectively controlled using resistant cultivars. This study aimed at assessing the reaction of muskmelon genotypes, in terms of resistance to Meloidogyne incognita and M. javanica infestation. The experiment was conducted under greenhouse conditions using a completely randomized design, in a 2 x 15 factorial scheme, with six replications. A total of 15 muskmelon genotypes were evaluated and the 'Santa Cruz Kada' tomato was used as a susceptible control. The total number of eggs and juvenile nematodes in the roots and the reproduction factor were used to assess the genotype reaction. None of the genotypes was resistant to M. incognita. Eight genotypes were classified as resistant to M. javanica and promising for use in melon breeding programs.

O presente estudo teve como objetivo caracterizar genótipos de soja-hortaliça, por meio de características agronômicas, nutricionais e antinutricionais, utilizando-se a Análise de Componentes Principais. O experimento foi conduzido em condições de campo no Setor de Olericultura e Plantas Aromático-Medicinais na UNESP-FCAV. O delineamento experimental foi em blocos casualizados com cinco genótipos e quatro repetições. Avaliaram-se as variáveis: número de vagens por planta, número de sementes por vagem, massa fresca das vagens por planta (g), massa fresca de 100 sementes (g), produtividade total estimada de grãos imaturos (kg ha-1), teor de umidade, proteínas, lipídeos, cinzas, carboidratos, isoflavonas e inibidores de tripsina Kunitz. As variáveis que contribuíram na discriminação dos genótipos no primeiro componente principal foram: peso total de vagens por planta, teor de proteínas, número de vagens por planta, peso de 100 sementes e teor de umidade, enquanto que aquelas que contribuíram no segundo componente principal foram: teor de cinzas, proteínas, número de vagens por planta e teor de lipídeos. Os genótipos JLM010, JLM024 e CNPSO1, destacaram-se por serem influenciados pelo peso total de vagens por planta, produtividade estimada, número de vagens por planta, teor de carboidratos, isoflavonas e de proteínas, sendo considerados genótipos de soja-hortaliça com potencial para serem utilizados em programas de melhoramento genético vegetal.

This study presents the characterization of vegetable soybean genotypes. It was applied Principal Component Analysis considering the agronomics, nutritional and antinutritional features: number of pods per plant, number of seeds per pod, fresh weight of pods per plant (g), fresh weight of 100 seeds (g), estimated total yield of immature seeds (kg ha-1), moisture content, proteins, lipids, ash, carbohydrates, isoflavones and Kunitz trypsin inhibitor. The experiments were developed in the sector of Olericultura and Plantas Aromático-Medicinais from UNESP-FCAV. The results showed that fresh weight of pods per plant, proteins content, number of pods per plant, fresh weight of 100 seeds, and moisture content were the relevant variables for the discrimination of the genotypes in the first principal component and for the second principal the component were ash content, proteins, number of pods per plant and lipids content. Accordingly, the genotypes JLM010, JLM024 and CNPSO1 were defined as relevant by the variables fresh weight of pods per plant, estimated total yield of immature seeds, number of pods per plant, carbohydrates content, isoflavones and proteins. It was concluded that it is a relevant result because these genotypes were considered candidates to be used in plant breeding programs.

Combretum leprosum Mart. -Combretaceae es un arbusto utilizado en la medicina popular del noreste de Brasil como antiulceroso, antihemorrágica y antinociceptiva. En este estudio se desarrolló un modelo para el cálculo de área foliar de Combretum leprosum usando mediciones lineales de longitud (C) y ancho máximo (L) de la hoja. Se recolectaron 200 láminas de hojas de una población de C. leprosum nativo en un área de conservación de la Caatinga en el campus de la Universidad Federal Rural de la Semi árido en Mossoro, Rio Grande do Norte. Las hojas se obtuvieron de árboles adultos y el área foliar se midió utilizando un integrador (LI-3100, LI-COR). El análisis de regresión se hizo con el programa SAEG. Para estimar el área foliar de C. leprosum se puede utilizar la ecuación lineal simple de regresión A = 0.7103 x (C x L), que es equivalente a tomar 71.03% de los productos de la longitud a lo largo de la nervadura central y el ancho máximo, con un coeficiente de determinación de 0.952617.

Combretum leprosum Mart. -Combretaceae is a shrub used in popular medicine in Northeast Brazil as antiulcer, antihemorragica and antinociceptive. Estimating the leaf area is an important remark to be made biometric to compare the growth of plants. In this study, a model for calculating leaf area was developed for Combretum leprosum using linear measurements of leaf length (C) and maximum width (L), in order to obtain an equation by the linear dimensions of the leaf. It was collected 200 leaf blades of a population of C. leprosum native in a conservation area of Caatinga in the campus of the Federal Rural University of the Semi Arid in Natal, Rio Grande do Norte. The leaves were obtained from adults and leaf area was measured using an integrator leaf area (LI-3100, LI-COR). The analysis of variance of the regression was made in the program SAEG. The linear and geometric equations can be used to estimate leaf area of C. leprosum. From a practical standpoint, it is suggested to opt for the simple linear equation involving the C x L, using the regression equation A = 0.7103 x (C x L), which is equivalent to taking 71.03% of product of the length along the midrib and the maximum width, with a coefficient of determination of 0.952617.

Estimativa da área foliar é uma importante observação biométrica a ser feita para comparar o crescimento das plantas. Neste estudo, um modelo de cálculo da área foliar foi desenvolvido para Combretum leprosum, utilizando medidas lineares de comprimento de folha (C) e a largura máxima (L), com o objetivo de obter uma equação através de parâmetros lineares dimensionais das folhas. Foram coletados 200 limbos foliares de uma população de C. leprosus nativa em uma área conservada de Caatinga dentro do campus da Universidade Federal Rural do Semi árido em Mossoró, Rio Grande do Norte. As folhas foram obtidas de indivíduos adultos e a área das folhas foi determinada através de um integrador de área foliar (LI-3100, LI-COR). A analise de variância da regressão foi feita no programa SAEG. As equações lineares simples, exponenciais e geométricas obtidas podem ser usadas para estimação da área foliar de C. leprosum. Do ponto de vista prático, sugere-se optar pela equação linear simples que envolve o produto C x L, usando-se a equação de regressão A = 0.7103 x (C x L), que equivale a tomar 71.03% do produto entre o comprimento ao longo da nervura principal e a largura máxima, com um coeficiente de determinação (R²) de 0.952617.
