ABSTRACT Wheelchair dancing (DCR) is an activity practised mainly by people with physical disabilities. In Brazil, it is an emerging activity lacking investigation and systematisation. Thus, the objective of the present study was, through a narrative review of the literature, to identify, analyse and systematise the existing studies about the effects of DCR on the health and quality of life of people with physical disabilities. The research was driven in specialised databases, the Theses and Dissertations Catalog of the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (Capes), and digital libraries of theses and dissertations from numerous higher education institutions. Eligible studies included only people with physical disabilities, as well as dealing with the effects of DCR on health and quality of life. A total of eight studies were included in the qualitative synthesis. Most of the studies had a qualitative approach and cross-sectional design. It is possible to conclude that DCR can bring countless benefits to the physical health, psychosocial functioning and quality of life of people with physical disabilities.

RESUMO A dança em cadeira de rodas (DCR) é uma modalidade praticada principalmente por pessoas com deficiência física. No Brasil, é uma modalidade emergente que carece de investigação e sistematização. Assim, o objetivo do presente estudo foi, por meio de uma revisão narrativa da literatura, identificar, analisar e sistematizar os estudos existentes sobre os efeitos da DCR na saúde e qualidade de vida de pessoas com deficiência física. As pesquisas foram conduzidas em bases de dados especializadas, Catálogo de Teses e Dissertações da Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior (Capes) e em bibliotecas digitais de teses e dissertações de inúmeras instituições de ensino superior. Estudos elegíveis incluíram apenas pessoas com deficiência física, assim como tratavam dos efeitos da DCR na saúde e qualidade de vida. Um total de oito estudos foram incluídos na síntese qualitativa. A maior parte dos estudos apresentou uma abordagem qualitativa e delineamento transversal. É possível concluir que a DCR pode trazer inúmeros benefícios para a saúde física, para o funcionamento psicossocial e para a qualidade de vida de pessoas com deficiência física.

Resumo Este estudo tem como objetivo analisar a associação entre a adesão à alimentação escolar e a coocorrência do consumo regular de marcadores de alimentação saudável e não saudável entre adolescentes brasileiros. Foram avaliados 67.881 adolescentes de escolas públicas brasileiras participantes da Pesquisa Nacional de Saúde do Escolar (PeNSE) de 2015. A partir do QFA de sete dias, construiu-se a variável dependente, coocorrência do consumo regular (≥ 5x/semana) de marcadores de alimentação saudável e não saudável, que foi categorizada em consumo regular de nenhum; um ou dois; ou três marcadores de alimentação. Realizou-se regressão logística ordinal com ajuste para variáveis sociodemográficas, hábitos alimentares fora da escola e características da escola. A prevalência da coocorrência do consumo regular de três marcadores de alimentação saudável foi de 14,5%, e de três marcadores de alimentação não saudável foi de 4,9%. A alta adesão à alimentação escolar (todos os dias) foi positivamente associada ao consumo regular de marcadores de alimentação saudável e inversamente associada ao consumo regular de marcadores de alimentação não saudável. A alimentação escolar fornecida pelo PNAE contribui para a promoção de hábitos alimentares saudáveis entre os adolescentes brasileiros.

Abstract The aim of this study was to analyze the association between adherence to school meals and the co-occurrence of the regular consumption of healthy and unhealthy eating markers among Brazilian adolescents. Data from 67,881 adolescents in Brazilian public schools who participated in the 2015 National School Health Survey, were used. From the 7-day FFQ, the dependent variable was constructed, co-occurrence of regular consumption (≥ 5x/week) of healthy and unhealthy food markers, which was categorized as regular consumption of none, one or two, or three eating markers. We performed an ordinal logistic regression with adjustment for sociodemographic, eating habits outside of school, and school characteristics variables. The prevalence of the co-occurrence of the regular consumption of three healthy eating markers was 14.5%, and that of three unhealthy markers was 4.9%. High adherence to school meals (every day) was positively associated with regular consumption of healthy eating markers and inversely associated with regular consumption of unhealthy eating markers. The school meals provided by PNAE contribute to the promotion of healthy eating habits among Brazilian adolescents.

Abstract This study aims to understand the criteria that influence the decision-making process of selecting startups that have innovated successfully. In this article, this kind of selection was made by venture capital enterprises. We studied the view of the investors, venture capital professionals, and startup entrepreneurs interviewed. We present the actual global characteristics of the main cities where innovation takes place and the modernism and critical modernism aspects and creative thinking beliefs (Einstein, Habermas). The qualitative research was carried out using an exploratory approach and case study methodology based on semi-structured interviews (nine in total) with professionals from venture capital funds, startup entrepreneurs, and investors. The interviews confirmed several relationships between theories found in the business management literature. Findings such as post-bureaucratic environments (Heckscher), Mintzberg’s (1995) Adhocracy, and Simon’s decision-making process (1987) for pattern recognition were corroborated by the analysis of the interviews. We present some initiatives for innovation such as Station F in France, El Espacio La Nave, Madrid, the Project Porto Maravilha in Rio, and Vila Olimpia e Paulista avenue, São Paulo.

Resumen El objetivo principal del presente estudio es comprender cuáles son los criterios que influyen en el proceso de toma de decisiones de selección de las mejores startups en innovación por parte de un fondo de capital de riesgo, a juicio de los inversores, profesionales de fondos de capital de riesgo y emprendedores de startups entrevistados. Presentamos algunas ideas sobre las características de las principales ciudades que promueven la innovación y los principios del modernismo, del modernismo crítico (Habermas) y del pensamiento creativo (Einstein). Las entrevistas confirmaron varias relaciones entre las hipótesis encontradas en la literatura sobre teoría organizacional. A través del análisis de las entrevistas, se corroboraron hallazgos como los entornos posburocráticos (Heckscher) y la propuesta de adhocracia de Mintzberg (1995), así como la teoría de la elección racional de Herbert Simon (1987) y sus estudios sobre el proceso de toma de decisiones en las organizaciones a través del reconocimiento de patrones cognitivos por parte de los decisores. También se destacó la importancia del tema de la resiliencia organizacional. Finalmente, se sugiere estudiar la apertura de nuevos espacios para la creación de startups e innovación, como la Station F, en París, el espacio La Nave en Madrid, el proyecto Porto Maravilha, en Río de Janeiro, y de centros urbanos de innovación como Vila Olímpia y Avenida Paulista, en São Paulo.

Resumo O objetivo principal do presente estudo é entender quais critérios influenciam o processo decisório de seleção das melhores startups em inovação por um fundo de venture capital, na visão dos investidores, profissionais de fundos de venture capital e empreendedores de startups entrevistados. Apresentamos algumas ideias sobre as características das principais cidades que promovem inovação e os ideais do modernismo e do modernismo crítico (Habermas) e do pensamento criativo (Einstein). As entrevistas confirmaram diversas relações entre as hipóteses encontradas na literatura sobre teoria organizacional. Achados como os ambientes pós-burocráticos (Heckscher) e a proposta de adhocracia de Mintzberg (1995), assim como a Teoria da Escolha Racional de Herbert Simon (1987) e seus estudos sobre o processo decisório nas organizações pelo reconhecimento de padrões cognitivos pelos decididores, foram corroborados pela análise das entrevistas. Foram elaboradas entrevistas semiestruturadas (nove, no total) com profissionais de fundos de venture capital, empreendedores de startups e investidores com alguma experiência no mercado em questão. A importância do tema resiliência organizacional também foi ressaltada, e, no fim, sugere-se o estudo sobre a abertura de novos espaços de criação de startups e inovação, como a Station F, em Paris, França, o espaço La Nave, em Madri, e o projeto Porto Maravilha, no Rio, e de centros urbanos de inovação, como a Vila Olímpia e a Avenida Paulista, em São Paulo.

ABSTRACT The no-tillage system for vegetables is an environmentally and economically suitable alternative, particularly for organic crops. However, further studies are needed using other plant species and under different growing conditions. This research aimed to evaluate the influence of different winter soil covers on lettuce development and yield under no-tillage system in an organic cultivation area. The experiment was arranged in a randomized block design with five treatments and six replications. The treatments used were three soil covers in the organic no-tillage system and two systems without cover crops and with soil tillage, one organic and the other conventional. The grass Avena strigosa (L.), the leguminous Lupinus albus (L.), and the intercropping of both species were used. The number of leaves per plant, stem length and diameter, head diameter, fresh and dry weight of plants, fresh weight of leaves and stem and Soil Plant Analysis Development (SPAD) index were evaluated. The use of leguminous straw is recommended for winter cultivation of lettuce in an organic no-tillage system. Black oat straw, single or intercropped, impaired the development and productivity of lettuce in the organic no-tillage system in winter cultivation.

RESUMO: A interação genótipo x ambiente representa um grande desafio na identificação e seleção de genótipos responsivos às diversas condições de clima e solo. O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar e selecionar pré-cultivares de feijão carioca e feijão carioca precoce com base na adaptabilidade, estabilidade e produtividade de grãos. Na safra 2014 foram conduzidos dois ensaios regionais de competição no estado de Pernambuco: feijão carioca (14 genótipos em Arcoverde, Belém de São Francisco, Caruaru e São João) e feijão carioca precoce (11 genótipos em Araripina, Arcoverde e Caruaru) e na safra de 2015 com feijão carioca precoce (11 genótipos, em Araripina, Arcoverde e Brejão). Os parâmetros foram estimados por meio de modelos mistos e a seleção foi realizada pelo método da Média Harmônica do Desempenho Relativo dos Valores Genéticos (MHPRVG), adotando-se três estratégias: i) seleção com base no valor genético predito, sem interação; ii) seleção com base no valor genético predito, considerando cada local; iii) seleção simultânea quanto à produtividade de grãos, adaptabilidade e estabilidade. Observou-se que os ambientes influenciaram na expressão fenotípica dos genótipos de feijão carioca e carioca precoce, configurando adaptação específica. Os genótipos BRS Notável, BRS Estilo e BRS Pérola, de feijão carioca, e CNFC 15875, BRS Notável e CNFC 15630, de feijão carioca precoce, apresentaram os melhores desempenhos nos ambientes testados, considerando-se, simultaneamente, a adaptabilidade a diferentes condições edafoclimáticas, estabilidade de desempenho e produtividade de grãos.

ABSTRACT: Genotype x environment interactions represent a major challenge in identifying and selecting genotypes responsive to different climate and soil conditions. This research evaluated and selected pre-cultivars of carioca bean and early carioca bean based on adaptability, stability, and grain yield. In the 2014 crop season, two regional competition trials were conducted in the state of Pernambuco: carioca beans (14 genotypes in Arcoverde, Belém de São Francisco, Caruaru and São João) and early carioca beans (11 genotypes in Araripina, Arcoverde, and Caruaru) and, in the 2015 crop season, with early carioca beans (11 genotypes in Araripina, Arcoverde, and Brejão). Parameters were estimated by mixed models, and the selection was performed using the Harmonic Mean of Relative Performance of Genetic Values (HMRPGV) method following three strategies: i) selection based on predicted genetic value with no interaction; ii) selection according to predicted genetic value considering each location; and iii) simultaneous selection for grain yield, adaptability, and stability. The environments influenced the phenotypic expression of the carioca and early carioca bean genotypes, representing a specific adaptation. The genotypes BRS Notável, BRS Estilo and BRS Pérola, of carioca beans, and CNFC 15875, BRS Notável and CNFC 15630, of early carioca beans, had the best results in the environments tested, regarding, simultaneously, adaptability to different soil and climate conditions, performance stability, and grain yield.

Resumo Este artigo tem por objetivo analisar empiricamente a transmissão parental da educação para trabalhadores ocupados no mercado de trabalho, segundo a condição socioeconômica no Brasil. Para isso, aplicaram-se os modelos Logit com base nos microdados da Pesquisa Nacional por Amostra de Domicílios (PNAD) de 2014. Validou-se a reprodução intergeracional da educação para os trabalhadores brasileiros e a heterogeneidade entre as posições socioeconômicas: entre os pobres há persistência intergeracional da menor escolaridade e baixa mobilidade ascendente educacional entre gerações; entre os não pobres, essa manutenção parental do nível educacional está na alta escolaridade. A ocupação primária dos pais e residir no meio urbano reduzem a chance de reprodução do legado educacional dos pais, e ser mulher, branco e morar nas regiões desenvolvidas aumenta essas chances. Os resultados confirmam que a persistência educacional para trabalhadores de baixa instrução, maior para os pobres, alimenta o ciclo da pobreza, e oferece suporte para a manutenção das desigualdades históricas no país.

Abstract This article aimed to analyze empirically the parental transmission of education to workers employed in the labor market according to the socioeconomic status in Brazil. For this, Logit models were applied based on microdata from the 2014 Brazilian Household Sample Survey. The intergenerational reproduction of education for Brazilian workers and the heterogeneity between socioeconomic positions were validated. Among the poor, there is intergenerational persistence of lower education and low educational upward mobility between generations. On the other hand, among the non-poor, this parental maintenance of educational level is in high schooling. The parents’ primary occupation and living in urban areas reduce the chances of reproducing the parents’ educational legacy, while they increase for women, white people and those residing in developed regions. The results confirmed that the educational persistence for low-educated workers, greater for the poor, feeds the cycle of poverty and supports the maintenance of historical inequalities in the country.

Abstract Introduction Few instruments are available in Brazil to evaluate psychomotor activity in psychiatric emergency, clinical, and research settings. This study aimed to perform a cross-cultural adaptation of the Behavioral Activity Rating Scale (BARS) into Brazilian Portuguese and assess the adapted scale’s psychometric properties. Method An expert consensus committee conducted a translation and back-translation of the original scale, resulting in the BARS-BR. Four pairs of physicians administered the BARS-BR and the Sedation-Agitation Scale (SAS) to patients in a hospital psychiatry emergency room and patients in the hospital’s psychiatric wards. The BARS-BR was compared to the SAS to assess concurrent validity and internal consistency was evaluated with the Bland-Altman technique. Results In the emergency room, the correlation coefficients between the first and second assessments were rho = 0.997 and rho = 1.0, respectively. In the hospital wards, the correlation coefficient between the pair of evaluators was rho = 0.951. There were strong correlations between the BARS-BR score of the first examiner and the SAS score of the second examiner (rho = 0.903) and between the SAS score of the first examiner and the BARS-BR score of the second examiner (rho = 0.893). Conclusion The BARS-BR showed good psychometric properties, and we recommend its use because it constitutes an easy method for assessment of changes in psychomotor activity. Further studies are suggested to evaluate adoption and comprehension of the BARS-BR scale by all classes of healthcare professionals.

Abstract The cryopreservation of jaguar semen must be improved to produce high-quality biobanking doses. Until now, the rare studies of semen freezing in the species have only evaluated glycerol, always with a significant reduction in sperm quality in thawed semen. The purpose of this study was to assess the efficacy of three cryoprotectants, dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO), glycerol (GLY), and methanol (MET), in the cryopreservation of jaguar semen in an LDL-based extender, as well as the effect of thawing temperature on dosage quality. Five mature males with a history of reproduction were used. On the males, an infrared thermal image (IRT) was captured, the spicules and testes were analyzed, and the CASA system was used to evaluate the quality of fresh and thawed sperm. The superficial IRT was 4.6 ± 1.2 °C cooler than the anal sphincter, and the semen measured between 27.3 and 28.7 °C shortly after exiting the urethra. The total motility of fresh sperm was 55.3 ± 22.6%, and progressive motility was 36.3 ± 18%. The total motility of thawed sperm was 5.28 ± 2.51%, 4.49 ± %2.49, and 0.51 ± 0.62% for DMSO, GLY, and MET, respectively. DMSO and GLY performed better than MET, and there was no difference in thawing temperature (37°C 30 s vs. 50°C 12 s). All animals exhibit a considerable level of morphological changes in sperm. Low amounts of total and progressive motility were found in the thawed sperm. Males with a high level of sperm morphological changes were found to be fertile, but the lone male with normospermia was infertile. Thus, we contest the applicability of the commonly used morphological classification for bovines to felid species.

ABSTRACT The mixed-model methodology is an alternative to select genotypes for traits highly influenced by the environment. In addition, this method allows FOR estimating the repeatability coefficient and predicting the number of assessments needed for a selection process to increase reliability. This study aimed to determine the minimum number of evaluations necessary for a reliable selection process and to estimate the variance components used for predicting genetic gains between and within half-sib families of elephant grass ( Cenchrus purpureus (Schumach.) Morrone ) using the mixed-model methodology. Half-sib families were generated using genotypes from the Active Germplasm Bank of Elephant Grass. The experiment was performed in a randomized block design with nine half-sib families, three replicates, and eight plants per plot. We evaluated 216 genotypes (individual plants) of elephant grass. The deviance analysis was carried out, genetic parameters were estimated, gains between and within families were predicted, and repeatability coefficients were obtained using Selegen software. There was genetic variability for selection within the families evaluated. The reliability values found above 60 % for plant height and number of tillers and above 80 % for dry matter yield suggest that only two evaluations are required to select superior genotypes with outstanding reliability. Sixteen genotypes were identified and selected for their productive potential, which can be used as parents in elephant grass breeding programs for bioenergy production.

ABSTRACT One of the challenges of the energy sector is the identification of renewable resources with less impact on the environment and that are economically viable. This study aimed to estimate the genetic diversity of eleven full-sib families of elephant grass, using quantitative traits associated with bioenergy production. The trial followed a randomized blocks design, with four replications and each plot (family) consisting of five plants, totaling 220 genotypes. Five quantitative traits were measured: dry matter yield, dry matter percentage, plant height, stem diameter and number of tillers. The genetic diversity was estimated using multivariate methods (principal component analysis and hierarchical clustering). The analysis revealed a significant genetic diversity among the full-sib of elephant grass, with a greater variability observed for dry matter yield and number of tillers. The families 1, 2, 5, 7 and 8 exhibited superior genotypes for bioenergy production-related traits. The grouping analysis generated twenty clusters, enabling the differentiation of genotypes. Eight clusters comprised genotypes with a high dry matter yield and plant height, simultaneously, surpassing the overall mean for number of tillers.

RESUMO Um dos desafios do setor energético é a identificação de recursos renováveis com menor impacto ao meio ambiente e que sejam economicamente viáveis. Objetivou-se estimar a diversidade genética de onze famílias de irmãos completos de capim-elefante, utilizando-se características quantitativas associadas à produção de bioenergia. O ensaio foi conduzido em delineamento de blocos ao acaso, com quatro repetições, sendo cada parcela (família) composta por cinco plantas, totalizando 220 genótipos. Cinco características quantitativas foram mensuradas: produção de matéria seca, porcentagem de matéria seca, altura de planta, diâmetro de colmo e número de perfilhos. A estimativa da diversidade genética foi realizada por meio de métodos multivariados (componentes principais e agrupamento hierárquico). Observou-se que há diversidade genética em irmãos completos de capim-elefante, com maior amplitude de variabilidade para produção de matéria seca e número de perfilhos. As famílias 1, 2, 5, 7 e 8 apresentam genótipos superiores para características relacionadas à produção de bioenergia. Vinte grupos obtidos no agrupamento maximizaram a distinção dos genótipos. Oito grupos continham genótipos com alta produção de matéria seca e altura de planta, simultaneamente, além de valores acima da média geral para número de perfilhos.

ABSTRACT Elephant grass stands out among lignocellulosic biomass plants utilized for second-generation biofuel production due to several advantageous characteristics compared to other raw materials. Its short production cycle and ability to thrive in adverse soil and climate conditions contribute to its appeal. Additionally, breeders seek genotypes with high productivity potential and adaptability to various favorable cultivation environments. This study aimed to estimate genetic parameters, predict genetic values using mixed models (REML/BLUP), and evaluate stability and adaptability for energy biomass production in elephant grass genotypes. The experiment was conducted in Campos dos Goytacazes, RJ, Brazil, utilizing a two-replicate experimental block design that included 40 elephant grass genotypes. Four harvest assessments were performed between 2016 and 2019. Genetic parameter estimation and selection of superior genotypes based on genetic value using the REML/BLUP procedure were performed using Selegen software. Stability and adaptability analyses were obtained through the harmonic mean of genotypic values (HMGV), enabling the identification of stable and highly productive genotypes. Genotypes 17, 18, 32, 16, 36, 6, 15, 31, and 34 exhibited outstanding performance in terms of HMGV, indicating enhanced stability, adaptability, and simultaneous productivity, thus ensuring robustness in cultivation. These selected genotypes hold potential for future breeding programs aimed at improving elephant grass yield for biomass production.

Abstract This study aimed to evaluate the contribution of oral and maxillofacial pathology laboratories (OMPLs) in Brazilian public universities to the diagnosis of lip, oral cavity, and oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (SCC). A cross-sectional study was performed using biopsy records from a consortium of sixteen public OMPLs from all regions of Brazil (North, Northeast, Central-West, Southeast, and South). Clinical and demographic data of patients diagnosed with lip, oral cavity, and oropharyngeal SCC between 2010 and 2019 were collected from the patients’ histopathological records. Of the 120,010 oral and maxillofacial biopsies (2010-2019), 6.9% (8,321 cases) were diagnosed as lip (0.8%, 951 cases), oral cavity (4.9%, 5,971 cases), and oropharyngeal (1.2%, 1,399 cases) SCCs. Most cases were from Brazil’s Southeast (64.5%), where six of the OMPLs analyzed are located. The predominant profile of patients with lip and oral cavity SCC was Caucasian men, with a mean age over 60 years, low schooling level, and a previous history of heavy tobacco consumption. In the oropharyngeal group, the majority were non-Caucasian men, with a mean age under 60 years, had a low education level, and were former/current tobacco and alcohol users. According to data from the Brazilian National Cancer Institute, approximately 9.9% of the total lip, oral cavity, and oropharyngeal SCCs reported over the last decade in Brazil may have been diagnosed at the OMPLs included in the current study. Therefore, this data confirms the contribution of public OMPLs with respect to the important diagnostic support they provide to the oral healthcare services extended by the Brazilian Public Health System.

Abstract The study of adaptability and yield stability is essential for the selection and recommendation of new cultivars. Thus, this study determined the adaptability and yield stability of black bean genotypes for cultivar recommendation using a GGE biplot. To this end, nine trials were carried out at different locations in the state of Rio de Janeiro. Eleven genotypes were evaluated in three growing seasons, in a randomized block design, with three replications. Adaptability and stability of grain yield were analyzed by the GGE biplot method. The effects of genotypes, environments and of the genotype - environment interaction were significant, which explained the different responses of the genotypes to the tested environments. The GGE biplot analysis revealed Macaé as an ideal district for testing and high yield, adaptability, and stability of performance were observed for genotype CNFP 15290, which can be recommended for grain production in the state of Rio de Janeiro.
