Resumo A qualidade do solo refere-se à avaliação das propriedades químicas, físicas e biológicas do solo e tem sido um assunto explorado dentro das linhas de pesquisas agronômicas em decorrência de ações antrópicas que, muitas vezes, causam degradação. Objetivou-se pesquisar, entre os atributos físicos e biológicos estudados, aqueles que melhor expliquem, linear e espacialmente, a variabilidade do solo cultivado com soja na estação chuvosa e em pousio na estação seca no sistema agrossilvipastoril. O trabalho foi conduzido no ano agrícola 2015/2016, em Ipameri, Goiás. Analisaram-se as distribuições espaciais e as correlações entre alguns atributos indicadores da qualidade do solo: carbono da biomassa microbiana (CBM), respiração microbiana do solo (C-CO2), quociente metabólico (qCO2) e umidade do solo (UG), na profundidade de 0,00-0,10 m, nos períodos de chuva e seca. Instalou-se no local, uma malha geoestatística, onde foram coletados 52 pontos. Foi realizada a análise descritiva dos dados, a fim de obter correlações lineares, simples e múltiplas, entre os atributos. Os semivariogramas foram modelados a fim de obter as respectivas krigagens e validações cruzadas. Estabeleceram-se as co-krigagens de interesse. Os atributos microbiológicos do solo foram bons indicadores de zonas de manejo específico, apresentando maior dependência espacial no período chuvoso. O qCO2 apresentou relação direta com C-CO2 no período chuvoso, enquanto CBM apresentou relação inversamente proporcional tanto no período chuvoso, como no seco. O qCO2 foi o atributo que melhor representou, linear e espacialmente, a variabilidade do solo sob o sistema ILPF, refletindo as zonas de maior eficiência do uso do substrato pelos organismos do solo.

Abstract Soil quality refers to the assessment of the chemical, physical and biological properties of the soil and has been a subject explored within the lines of agronomic research because of anthropic actions that often cause degradation. The objective was to research, among the studied physical and biological attributes, those that best explain, linearly and spatially, the variability of the soil cultivated with soybeans in the rainy season and fallow in the dry season in the agrosilvopastoral system. The work was carried out in the 2015/2016 agricultural year, in Ipameri, Goiás. The spatial distributions and correlations between some soil quality indicator attributes were analyzed: microbial biomass carbon (CBM), soil microbial respiration (C-CO2), metabolic quotient (qCO2) and soil moisture (UG), at a depth of 0.00-0.10 m, during periods of rain and drought. A geostatistical grid was installed, where 52 points were collected. Descriptive analysis of the data was carried out to obtain linear, simple and multiple correlations between the attributes. The semivariograms were modeled to obtain the respective krigings and cross-validations. The co-krigages of interest were established. The microbiological attributes of the soil were good indicators of specific management zones, showing greater spatial dependence in the rainy season. qCO2 was directly related to C-CO2 in the rainy season, while CBM was inversely proportional in bothrainy and dry periods. The qCO2 was the attribute that best represented, linearly and spatially, the variability of the soil under the ILPF system, reflecting the zones of greatest efficiency in the use of the substrate by soil organisms.

Abstract Brazil is a non-endemic country for hepatitis E virus (HEV) infection with seroprevalence from 1% to 4% in blood donors and the general population. However, data on seroprevalence of HEV in the country are still limited. This study evaluated the prevalence of past or present HEV infection in a group of blood donors representative of the general population of the city of Sao Paulo, Southeastern Brazil. Serum samples from 500 blood donors were tested from July to September 2014 by serological and molecular methods. Anti-HEV IgG antibodies were detected in 49 (9.8%) subjects and categorized age groups revealed an age-dependent increase of HEV seroprevalence. Among the anti-HEV IgG positive subjects, only 1 had anti-HEV IgM while none tested positive for HEV-RNA. The present data demonstrate a higher seroprevalence of anti-HEV IgG than previously reported in the region.

RESUMO OBJETIVO: a presente pesquisa teve por objetivo comparar a percepção de ortodontistas, cirurgiões bucomaxilofaciais, artistas visuais e leigos ao avaliar a influência do posicionamento sagital da mandíbula, em vista lateral, na atratividade facial; na contratação para um emprego; e na percepção do perfil socioeconômico. MÉTODOS: um homem negro, um homem branco, uma mulher negra e uma mulher branca com faces harmoniosas serviram como modelos para obtenção de fotografias do perfil facial. Cada fotografia obtida foi digitalmente manipulada para a obtenção de sete perfis faciais: um ideal, três simulando avanço mandibular e três simulando retrusão mandibular, originando 28 fotografias. Essas fotografias foram avaliadas, por meio de um questionário, por quatro grupos de avaliadores: ortodontistas, cirurgiões bucomaxilofaciais, artistas visuais e leigos. RESULTADOS: o posicionamento anteroposterior da mandíbula exerceu forte influência sobre o grau de atratividade facial, porém foram observadas poucas diferenças significativas entre os diferentes grupos de avaliadores (p < 0,05). CONCLUSÕES: os perfis apontados como mais atraentes foram, também, os mais apontados como favoráveis à contratação para um emprego e os mais apontados como aqueles que aparentavam melhor condição socioeconômica.

ABSTRACT OBJECTIVE: This study aims at comparing the perception of orthodontists, maxillofacial surgeons, visual artists and laypersons when evaluating the influence of sagittal position of the mandible - in lateral view - in facial attractiveness; at a job hiring; and in the perception of socioeconomic profile. METHODS: A black male, a white male, a black female and a white female with harmonic faces served as models to obtain a facial profile photograph. Each photograph was digitally manipulated to obtain seven facial profiles: an ideal, three simulating mandibular advancement and three simulating mandibular retrusion, producing 28 photographs. These photographs were evaluated through a questionnaire by orthodontists, maxillofacial surgeons, visual artists and laypersons. RESULTS: The anteroposterior positioning of the mandible exerted strong influence on the level of facial attractiveness, but few significant differences between the different groups of evaluators were observed (p < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: The profiles pointed as the most attractive were also pointed as more favorable to be hired to a job position and pointed also as having the best socioeconomic condition.

Abstract Background Hepatitis E virus (HEV) can cause chronic infection with rapid progression to liver cirrhosis in immunocompromised patients. HEV seroprevalence in patients with Schistosoma mansoni in Brazil is unknown. We evaluated the prevalence of past or present HEV infection in schistosomiasis patients in Recife, Pernambuco, Brazil. A total of 80 patients with Schistosoma mansoni were consecutively enrolled in a cross-sectional study. Serum samples were tested for the presence of anti-HEV IgG antibodies by enzyme immunoassay (Wantai anti-HEV IgG, Beijing, China) and for the presence of HEV RNA using real time reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction with primers targeting the HEV ORF2 and ORF3. Clinical and laboratory tests as well as abdominal ultrasound were performed at the same day of blood collection. Results Anti-HEV IgG was positive in 18.8% (15/80) of patients with SM. None of the samples tested positive for anti-HEV IgM or HEV-RNA. Patients with anti-HEV IgG positive presented higher levels of alanine aminotranferase (p = 0.048) and gama-glutamil transferase (p = 0.022) when compared to patients without anti-HEV IgG antibodies. Conclusion This study demonstrates that the seroprevalence of HEV is high in patients with Schistosoma mansoni in Northeastern of Brazil. Past HEV infection is associated with higher frequency of liver enzymes abnormalities. HEV infection and its role on the severity of liver disease should be further investigated among patients with Schistosoma mansoni.

INTRODUCTION:Data on hepatitis E virus (HEV) in Brazil are limited. We analyzed 15 years of HEV surveillance data in a major clinical laboratory in São Paulo, Brazil.METHODS:The seroprevalence of HEV of 2,271 patients subjected to anti-HEV tests from 1998 to 2013 were analyzed.RESULTS:HEV seroprevalence was 2.1%, and the anti-HEV IgM positivity rate was 4.9%. Six hepatitis E patients were identified.CONCLUSIONS:HEV seroprevalence and detection rates appear to have increased in recent years. Hepatitis E should be investigated further and included in the differential diagnosis of hepatitis in Brazil.
