Abstract Background stewart-treves syndrome (STS) is an angiosarcoma associated with chronic lymphedema. Objectives This article analyses the characteristics of twenty-two patients and proposes active intervention in lymphedema and the early diagnosis of STS. Methods Twenty-two patients with STS were diagnosed at the centre over an 11-year period. Clinical manifestations, a series of conventional analyses, and histopathology were used to study these cases retrospectively. Results The age range of 22 patients with STS was 15 to 78 years. The main clinical manifestations included multiple skin and subcutaneous nodules and scattered red or purplish-red rashes in the lymphoedematous limbs. These patients often showed clinical symptoms such as lymphedema, weakness, emaciation, pain, mass, lymphadenopathy and so on. The positive rates of ultrasonography, MRI and radionuclide imaging were 66.7% (6/9), 92.3% (12/13) and 18.2% (2/11), respectively. The main points regarding active intervention in lymphedema and early diagnosis of STS were summarized. Study limitations Since this was a retrospective study, the main points summarized by the author need to be further quantified in clinical work to guide the diagnosis of this kind of disease more conveniently. In addition, further clinical trials are needed to evaluate the role of lymphedema in the occurrence and development of malignant tumors. Conclusions STS can appear in lymphoedematous tissue many years after lymphedema onset. To avoid delays in the diagnosis and therapy of STS, physicians should actively look for signs or symptoms of malignant lymphedema during the follow-up period and promptly manage patients developing problems.

ABSTRACT Introduction The college sports environment is characterized by breadth, diversity, and personality. This is an important period to develop students’ physical ability and improve their personality. Objective Compare the effects of different exercise methods on students’ health status. Methods 2991 college students participated in different sports activities. These sports were conducted based on the selection course (PE), all during one semester. The students’ physical health status was observed through experiments performed before and after the intervention. Results Activities such as basketball and soccer showed high effectiveness in improving students’ vital capacity index, volleyball expressively improved students’ performance in the long jump, tennis and table tennis were effective in improving students’ strength and adherence index, being lower in other indices. Martial arts also stood out in improving the students’ vital capacity index. Conclusion Improving physical health should be an overall process of students’ fitness development, and universities should actively encourage college students to participate in long-term sports to improve their health. RESUMEN Introducción El entorno del deporte universitario se caracteriza por su alcance, diversidad y personalidad. Es un periodo importante para desarrollar la capacidad física de los alumnos y mejorar su personalidad. Objetivo Comparar los efectos de diferentes métodos de ejercicio sobre el estado de salud de los estudiantes. Métodos 2991 estudiantes universitarios participaron en diferentes actividades deportivas. Estos deportes se llevaron a cabo basándose en el curso de selección (PE), todo ello durante un semestre. El estado de salud física de los alumnos se observó mediante experimentos realizados antes y después de la intervención. Resultados Actividades como el baloncesto y el fútbol mostraron una alta eficacia para mejorar el índice de capacidad vital de los alumnos, el voleibol mejoró expresivamente el rendimiento de los alumnos en salto de longitud, el tenis y el tenis de mesa fueron eficaces para mejorar el índice de fuerza y adherencia de los alumnos, siendo inferiores en otros índices. También las artes marciales se destacaron en la mejora del índice de capacidad vital de los alumnos. Conclusión La mejora de la salud física debería ser un proceso global del desarrollo de la forma física de los estudiantes y las universidades deberían animar activamente a los universitarios a participar en deportes de larga duración para mejorar su salud. RESUMO Introdução O ambiente do esporte universitário é caracterizado pela abrangência, diversidade e personalidade. Este é um período importante para desenvolver a capacidade física dos estudantes e melhorar a sua personalidade. Objetivo Comparar os efeitos de diferentes métodos de exercício sobre o estado de saúde dos estudantes. Métodos 2991 estudantes universitários participaram de diferentes atividades esportivas. Estes esportes foram conduzidos com base no curso de seleção (PE), todos durante um semestre. O estado de saúde física dos estudantes foi observado através de experimentos executados previa e posteriormente à intervenção. Resultados Atividades como basquetebol e futebol demonstraram alta efetividade para melhorar o índice de capacidade vital dos estudantes, voleibol melhorou expressivamente o desempenho dos alunos no salto em distância, o tênis e o tênis de mesa foram efetivos para aprimorar o índice de força e de adesão dos alunos, sendo inferior noutros índices. Também as artes marciais se destacaram ao melhorar o índice de capacidade vital dos alunos. Conclusão O aprimoramento da saúde física deve ser um processo global de desenvolvimento da aptidão física dos estudantes e as universidades devem encorajar ativamente os estudantes universitários a participar de esportes de longo prazo para melhorar sua saúde. ABSTRACT Purpose: To determine the predictive value of maternal White Blood Cells (WBC), neutrophils, and C-Reactive Protein (CRP) for diagnosing Histological Chorioamnionitis (HCA) among women with Preterm Premature Rupture of Membranes (PPROM) who underwent cervical cerclage. Methods: A retrospective cross-sectional study was conducted among women with singleton pregnancy and PPROM, who underwent cervical cerclage during 2018-2020. Results: A total of 55 eligible women were included in the final analysis, including 36 (61.02%) cases with HCA and 19 (38.98%) without HCA. Women with HCA had higher WBC count (12.31 ± 2.80) × 109/L and neutrophil count (9.67 ± 2.90)×109/L than those without HCA (10.35 ± 2.53) × 109/L and 7.82 ± 2.82 × 109/L, respectively) (both p < 0.05). The cut-off value of WBC count at 10.15×109/L was found to be the most effective in identifying HCA, with an Area Under Curve (AUC) of 0.707 (95% CI: 0.56-0.86; p = 0.012), sensitivity of 86.11%, specificity of 57.90%, Positive Predictive Value (PPV) of 79.49%, Negative Predictive Value (NPV) of 68.75%, and Youden index of 0.44. The combination of WBC + neutrophil had a slightly higher (AUC = 0.711, 95% CI: 0.57–0.86; p = 0.011), specificity (68.42%), and PPV (81.25%), but lower sensitivity (72.22%), than the WBC count alone. A cut-off value of neutrophil at 7.46 × 109/L was effective in identifying HCA, with an AUC of 0.689 (95% CI: 0.53-0.84; p = 0.022). Discussion: Combination use of WBC+neutrophil was found to be the most accurate predictor of HCA among women with PPROM after surgery of cervical cerclage.

Abstract Two kinds of bacteria, named TDJ-7 and TDJ-9, were isolated from the soil, which could degrade terbutylazine effectively. TDJ-7 and TDJ-9 were identified as Bacillus pumilus and Bacillus subtilis. The degradation efficiency of 10mg/L of terbutylazine by TDJ-7 could reach 95% within 6 days, and the strain TDJ-9 could reach 98% under the same conditions. Both strain TDJ-7 and strain TDJ-7 could also effectively degrade simazine, metribuzin, atrazine and ametryn. In addition, strain TDJ-7 and TDJ-9 had been successfully developed into a live bacterial agent that could be used to degrade terbutylazine residue. These results suggest that strain TDJ-7 and TDJ-9 can be used for the bioremediation of terbutylazine or other s-triazine herbicides contamination.

Abstract In this work, an immersion freezing system was proposed to shorten the total freezing time and improve the quality of frozen food. The thermal performance of the refrigerant liquid prepared for using in the immersion freezing system was evaluated. A three-dimensional model (3D) was developed to investigate the dynamic characteristics of food freezing process. The effects of the refrigerant liquid inlet flow rate, inlet temperature, total freezing time and freezing rate of chicken breast, velocity and temperature distribution in the immersion freezing system were investigated. In addition, the freezing rates of food using traditional air-blast freezing and the proposed immersion freezing were evaluated. The results showed that the freezing rate of food in immersion freezing was approximately 12.85 times higher than that of the traditional air-blast freezing. When the flow rate increased from 0.11 kg·s-1 to 0.63 kg·s-1, the total freezing time shortened by 36.9%. When the temperature decreased from -25 ºC to -40 ºC, the total freezing time shortened by 35.5%. However, the temperature of the refrigerant liquid should not be too low, which will lead to high viscosity of the liquid, thus resulting in increasing in the overall power consumption of the proposed system.

ABSTRACT Purpose: To explore the effect of different gastrointestinal reconstruction techniques on laparoscopic distal gastrectomy of gastric cancer on the nutritional and anemia status, and quality of life (QoL) of patients. Methods: Eligible patients were randomly divided into three groups (n=36/group): Billroth I anastomosis group, Billroth II combined with Braun anastomosis group, and Roux-en-Y anastomosis group. Related indicators were compared and analyzed. Results: The general data were comparable among the three groups (all P>0.05). Among the surgical-related indicators and postoperative recovery indicators, only the comparison of the operation time was statistically significant (P=0.004). The follow-up time was 5~36 months (average 27.9 months). In terms of nutritional and anemia indicators, only the differences in the levels of prealbumin, hemoglobin and serum ferritin in 24 months after operation showed significant differences (P=0.015, P=0.003, P=0.005, respectively). There were no significant differences in hospital readmission rate, overall survival, and QoL among the three groups (all P>0.05). Conclusions: In laparoscopic gastrectomy for stage II~III distal gastric cancer, Billroth I anastomosis has shorter operation time than Billroth II combined with Braun anastomosis and Roux-en-Y anastomosis and advantages in the improvement of nutritional status and anemia recovery.

Abstract Fluoroquinolones are an important class of antimicrobial agents to manage infectious diseases. However, knowledge about how host bile acids are modified by fluoroquinolones is limited. We investigated and compared the impact of fluoroquinolones on circulating bile acid profiles and gut microbiota from in vivo studies. We administered ciprofloxacin (100 mg/kg/day) or moxifloxacin (40 mg/kg/day) orally to male Wistar rats for seven days. Fifteen bile acids (BAs) from the serum and large intestine were quantified by HPLC-MS/MS. The diversity of gut microbiota after ciprofloxacin and moxifloxacin treatment was analyzed using high-throughput, next-generation sequencing technology. The two fluoroquinolone-treated groups had different BA profiles. Ciprofloxacin significantly reduced the hydrophobicity index of the BA pool, reduced secondary BAs, and increased taurine-conjugated primary BAs in both the serum and large intestine as compared with moxifloxacin. Besides, ciprofloxacin treatment altered intestinal microbiota with a remarkable increase in Firmicutes to Bacteroidetes ratio, while moxifloxacin exerted no effect. What we found suggests that different fluoroquinolones have a distinct effect on the host BAs metabolism and intestinal bacteria, and therefore provide guidance on the selection of fluoroquinolones to treat infectious diseases.

ABSTRACT The earliest fossil member of Teredidae, Delteredolaemus hei Li & Cai gen. et sp. nov., is reported from mid-Cretaceous Burmese amber. Delteredolaemus is assigned to the extant tribe Teredini, and shares a generally similar morphology with the extant genus Teredolaemus Sharp, 1885, although it can be distinguished from all other members in the tribe by the shape of the pronotum and mesoventral process, as well as the anteromedially tumid metaventrite.

Abstract Osmotic dehydration is a nonthermal processing technology, that is limited in blueberries because of the osmotic agent, temperature and efficiency. This study was to prepare a novel ternary solution considering low-sugar, low-salt and low-viscosity requirements and to dehydrate blueberries at 20 °C. The mass transfer kinetics of fresh and frozen blueberries were explored in ternary solution considering the volume shrinkage of blueberries. The results showed that the 40%/50% xylitol solution had the lowest viscosity in polyols at 20 °C. The addition of 5%/10% CaCl2 had no significant effect on the viscosity of the ternary solution. Frozen blueberries had higher OD efficiency and less equilibrium time than fresh blueberries at 600 rpm vibration speed and 50%xylitol/10%CaCl2 concentration. There was competition between xylitol and CaCl2 transfer at shorter dehydration times for fresh blueberries, which was not significant in frozen blueberries and with longer times. Considering volume shrinkage of the blueberries, the effective diffusion coefficient of water and solute was calculated. The vibration speed had a significant effect on the effective diffusion coefficient, which governed the mass transfer efficiencies of the blueberries in the ternary solution.

Abstract Polysaccharides are the major components of the water extract from Dendrobium officinale, which have been thoroughly studied and found to have favorable moisturizing properties on mammalian skin. However, the structures of polysaccharides on skin moisturizing properties remains unknown. The aim of this study was to extract and characterize D. officinale polysaccharides, which have anti-oxidant activity and the role of promoting effects of aquaporin-3 (AQP3). Two crude polysaccharide fractions were extracted using water and biological fermentation, respectively. The crude polysaccharides were further purified by graded alcohol precipitation, and finally purified polysaccharides DOP-S and DOP-F were obtained by Sephacryl S-300 column chromatography. The average molecular weights of DOP-S and DOP-F were 3.604 × 105 and 1.027 × 105 Da, respectively. Monosaccharide units and structures of DOP-S and DOP-F were further elucidated by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) and Fourier Transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). At the same time, DOP-S and DOP-F induced aquaporin-3 (AQP3) expression was evaluated by immuno-fluorescence analysis. The antioxidant activities of the polysaccharides were evaluated using 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) and ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid (ABTS) radical scavenging capacities, and ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP). The results showed that biological fermentation effectively achieved the hydrolysis of the polysaccharides and stimulated antioxidant activity and AQP3 expression.

ABSTRACT Purpose: Radical nephrectomy (RN) is the standard surgical type for pathological stage T3a (pT3a) renal cell carcinoma (RCC). Recently, some studies have suggested equivalence between partial nephrectomy (PN) and RN for oncologic control and have shown the benefits of PN for better renal function. We conducted this meta-analysis to assess oncologic outcomes, perioperative outcomes and renal function between two groups among patients with pT3a RCC. Materials and methods: PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, Science Direct, Ovid MEDLINE, The Cochrane Library, Embase and Google Scholar were searched for eligible articles. The endpoints of the final analysis included overall survival (OS), cancer-specific survival (CSS), recurrence-free survival (RFS), surgical complications, operative time, estimated blood loss (EBL), serum creatinine and estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR). Results: Twelve studies of moderate to high quality, including 14.152 patients, were examined. PN showed superiority for renal functional preservation, providing higher eGFR (WMD=12.48mL/min; 95%CI: 10.28 to 14.67; P <0.00001) and lower serum creatinine (WMD=-0.31mg/dL; 95%CI: −0.40 to −0.21; P <0.00001). There were no significant differences between PN and RN regarding operative time, EBL, surgical complications, OS, RFS and CSS. Despite inherent selection bias, most pooled estimates were consistent in sensitivity analysis and subgroup analysis. More positive margins were found in the PN group (RR=2.42; 95%CI: 1.25-4.68; P=0.009). Conclusions: PN may be more suitable for treating pT3a RCC than RN because it provides a similar survival time (OS or RFS) and superior renal function. Nevertheless, this result is still disputed, and more high-quality studies are required.

Objective to reflect on the implications of Home Office work in the covid-19 pandemic period on individuals’ health, from the perspective of the Adaptation Theory developed by Callista Roy. Method reflective study based on the application of the Adaptation Theory developed by Callista Roy related to changes in the work process imposed by the health crisis of the COVID-19 pandemic, with emphasis on the Home Office. Results Callista Roy’s Adaptation Theory has four adaptive modes: physiological, self-concept, role performance and interdependence. There is the interlocution of all these dimensions at Home Office work imposed by the pandemic context. Conclusion Callista Roy’s Theory supports discussions about the possibility of adaptation in this new context, either in a specific way or through transformations in the long-term work process, overcoming limitations of the individual and discovering ways to do and be in the work field.

Objetivo reflexionar sobre las implicaciones del trabajo Home Office en el período de la pandemia de COVID-19 sobre la salud de las personas, desde la perspectiva de la Teoría de la Adaptación desarrollada por Callista Roy. Método estudio reflexivo basado en la aplicación de la Teoría de la Adaptación desarrollada por Callista Roy relacionado con cambios en el proceso de trabajo impuestos por la crisis de salud de la pandemia de COVID-19, con énfasis en el Home Office. Resultados La Teoría de la Adaptación de Callista Roy tiene cuatro modos adaptativos: fisiológico, autoconcepto, ejecución del papel e interdependencia. Puede verificarse la interlocución de todas estas dimensiones en el trabajo Home Office impuesto por el contexto de la pandemia. Conclusión la Teoría de Callista Roy apoya discusiones sobre la posibilidad de adaptación en este nuevo contexto, ya sea de manera puntual o a través de transformaciones en el proceso de trabajo a largo plazo, superando las limitaciones del individuo y descubriendo formas de hacer y estar en el campo del trabajo.

Método estudo reflexivo baseado na aplicação da Teoria da Adaptação desenvolvida por Callista Roy relacionada às modificações do processo de trabalho impostas pela crise sanitária da pandemia de COVID-19, com ênfase no Home Office. Resultados a Teoria da Adaptação de Callista Roy possui quatro modos adaptativos: fisiológico, autoconceito, desempenho de papel e interdependência. É possível verificar a interlocução de todas essas dimensões no trabalho em Home Office imposto pelo contexto da pandemia. Conclusão a Teoria de Callista Roy subsidia as discussões sobre a possibilidade de adaptação neste novo contexto, seja de maneira pontual ou mediante transformações no processo de trabalho em longo prazo, superando limitações do indivíduo e descobrindo maneiras de se fazer e ser no campo do trabalho.

Abstract Simazine was one of the most commonly used herbicides and was widely used to control broadleaf weeds in agriculture and forestry. Its widespread use had caused wide public concern for its high ecological toxicity. In order to remove simazine residues, 2 strains capable of effectively degrading simazine were isolated from the soil and named SIMA-N5 and SIMA-N9. SIMA-N5 was identified as Bacillus licheniformis by 16SrRNA sequence analysis, and SIMA-N9 was Bacillus altitudinis. According to the degradation ratio of simazine in a certain period of time, the degradation ability of different strains was evaluated. The degradation efficiency of simazine (5 mg/L) by SIMA-N9 could reach about 98% in 5d, and the strain SIMA-N5 could reach 94% under the same conditions. In addition, the addition of Pennisetum rhizosphere soil during the process of degrading simazine by strain SIMA-N9 could effectively improve the degradation efficiency. The strain SIMA-N9 has been developed as a microbial agent for the bioremediation of simazine contamination in soil. The new microbial agent developed by using SIMA-N9 has achieved satisfactory application effects. Based on the research results already obtained in this study, it was considered that strain SIMA-N9 and its live bacterial agent could play an important role in bioremediation of simazine pollution. This study could not only provide a set of solutions to the simazine pollution, but also provide a reference for the treatment of other pesticide pollution.

Abstract Pain is a significant problem worldwide that affects the quality of life of patients. Dezocine is a non-addictive analgesic drug with kappa-opioid antagonist activity and has been successfully used to alleviate of postoperative pain. In addition, dezocine has an analgesic effect similar to that of morphine, alleviating moderate to severe pain. Rap guanine nucleotide exchange factor 3 (RAPGEF3) is a guanine nucleotide exchange factor for GTPases Rap1 and Rap2, which could enhance the activity of Rap1 to promote cell adhesion and axon regeneration, as well as promote neurite extension by interacting with nerve growth factors. Here, we first observed that overexpression of RAPGEF3 increased cell viability, as shown by a CCK-8 assay, and recovered brain function in rats. The expression of inflammation-related factors at the mRNA level was detected using qPCR, and the concentration of these factors in a cultured cell medium and rat serum samples were decreased as shown by ELISA after RAPGEF3 overexpression. Through western blotting, we further found that pro-inflammatory proteins were decreased, and these effects might be mediated by inhibition of the Ras/p-38 MAPK signaling pathway. Taken together, we speculated that RAPGEF3overexpression enhances the therapeutic effect of dezocine on neuropathic pain by inhibiting the inflammatory response through inhibition of the Ras/p-38 MAPK signaling pathway.
