Resumo Calvatia é um gênero de fungos gasteroides que compreende cerca de 47 espécies em todo o mundo. Neste artigo relatamos a segunda ocorrência de duas espécies pouco conhecidas de Calvatia, registradas no bioma Cerrado do Brasil: C. oblongispora e C. nodulata. Descrições morfológicas detalhadas e ilustrações são fornecidas, incluindo micrografias eletrônicas de varredura de hifas e basidiósporos, bem como uma discussão sobre sua taxonomia e distribuição geográfica.

Abstract Calvatia is a genus of gasteroid fungi, comprising about 47 species worldwide. In this paper we report the second worldwide occurrence of two poorly known species of Calvatia, recorded in the Cerrado biome of Brazil: C. oblongispora and C. nodulata. Detailed morphological descriptions and illustrations, including scanning electron micrographs of hyphae and basidiospores are provided, as well a discussion on their taxonomy and geographic distribution.

Abstract Background Controlling blood pressure and glycemic levels is a challenge that requires innovative solutions. Objective To assess the feasibility of implementing a text message intervention among low-income primary care patients, as well as to assess self-reported behavioral change. Methods A set of 200 text messages was developed on healthy eating, physical activity, adherence, and motivation. Participants from Vale do Mucuri, MG, Brazil diagnosed with diabetes or hypertension or undergoing screening for those diseases, received 5 to 8 messages per week for 6 months. They answered a questionnaire to report their satisfaction and behavioral changes. Results Of the 136 patients, 117 (86.0%) answered the questionnaire. Most reported that the messages were very useful (86.3%), easy to understand (90.6%), and were very helpful for behavioral change (65.0%); 84.6% reported that they had started eating healthier. The most frequent reported lifestyle changes were: improved diet quality (85.5%), reduced portions (65.8%), and weight loss (56.4%). The majority of patients shared the messages (60.7%) with family or other acquaintances, considered the number of messages to be adequate (89.7%) and would recommend the program to others (95.7%). Conclusion An intervention based on text messages to promote behavioral change in patients with hypertension or diabetes in primary care is feasible in low-resource settings. Future studies are needed to assess the program’s long-term effects on clinical outcomes.

Various beneficial biological activities have been reported for passion fruit (Passiflora edulis), grown in tropical and subtropical regions. However, no study has yet demonstrated its action against the Zika virus (ZIKV) infection. The present study aimed to investigate the anti-ZIKV of the ethanolic passion fruit seed extract (PFSE), from which, liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) analysis allowed to putatively annotate the occurrence of piceatannol, astringin, scirpusin A, scirpusin B, isookanin-7-O-glucoside and naringenin-7-O-glucoside, two quadranguloside derivatives, tyrosine, and phenylalanine. PFSE is well tolerated by cell lines (Vero E6 and HTR-8/SVneo) and tissue explants from the human placenta. With 1- and 24-h treatments, PFSE consistently reduced the viral load and NS1 protein expression of the two strains of ZIKV (MR766 and PE243) in placental explants and cell lines. Thus, PFSE has a promising potential for developing anti-ZIKV treatments, protecting the placenta against infection caused by ZIKV, along with relevant antioxidant potential, represented by ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) of 390.5 Trolox eq per g dry extract and half maximal inhibitory concentration (IC50) for 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl radical (DPPH•) of 12.1 µg mL-1, and more than 90% protection from lipid peroxidation. Although further studies need to be conducted, PFSE treatment was safe and effective in trophoblast cells and placental explants, thus representing a promising class of all-accessible products based on the reuse of industrial by-products.

Objective: To assess the adherence to a set of evidence-based recommendations to support mental health during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic and its association with depressive and anxiety symptoms. Methods: A team of health workers and researchers prepared the recommendations, formatted into three volumes (1: COVID-19 prevention; 2: Healthy habits; 3: Biological clock and sleep). Participants were randomized to receive only Volume 1 (control), Volumes 1 and 2, Volumes 1 and 3, or all volumes. We used a convenience sample of Portuguese-speaking participants over age 18 years. An online survey consisting of sociodemographic and behavioral questionnaires and mental health instruments (Patient Health Questionnaire-9 [PHQ-9] and Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7 [GAD-7]) was administered. At 14 and 28 days later, participants were invited to complete follow-up surveys, which also included questions regarding adherence to the recommendations. A total of 409 participants completed the study – mostly young adult women holding university degrees. Results: The set of recommendations contained in Volumes 2 and 3 was effective in protecting mental health, as suggested by significant associations of adherence with PHQ-9 and GAD-7 scores (reflecting anxiety and depression symptoms, respectively). Conclusion: The recommendations developed in this study could be useful to prevent negative mental health effects in the context of the pandemic and beyond.

Resumo Percepção dos fungos por agricultores do Cerrado – Fungos são organismos importantes em vários aspectos da vida humana. Em particular, para a agricultura, fungos patogênicos são de grande importância, pois são responsáveis por perdas de produção dos mais diversos tipos. Por isso, o conhecimento sobre fungos patogênicos é de extrema importância para agricultores e profissionais que trabalham em áreas agrícolas. Entre os agricultores que utilizam práticas agroecológicas, esse conhecimento é ainda mais valioso, pois, ao não adotar métodos convencionais de produção, recorrem a alternativas não invasivas que são menos ou não prejudiciais ao meio ambiente, considerando os métodos de gerenciamento da produção. Este estudo teve como objetivo avaliar a percepção de um grupo de agricultores do bioma Cerrado, na cidade de Goiás (GO), Brasil, a fim de compreender suas percepções etnomicológicas, de modo a verificar práticas históricas de manejo, seu conhecimento sobre fungos fitopatogênicos e como esses produtores percebem os fungos, de modo geral. Utilizamos o método “de camponês para camponês”, formulado pela ANPA – Associação Nacional de Pequenos Agricultores. Discutimos alguns aspectos do conhecimento etnomicológico destes agricultores. A facilidade de identificação de representantes fúngicos está associada a organismos que apresentam características facilmente reconhecíveis, como estereótipo orelha-de-pau ou fungos causadores de doenças em cultivares. Em geral, os agricultores do estudo são capazes de identificar representantes do Reino Fungi que são encontrados em suas vidas cotidianas. A percepção dos agricultores sobre os fungos, um grupo ainda muito desconhecido pela sociedade, é muito relevante para ações futuras dentro da etnomicologia.

Abstract Fungi are important in several aspects of human life. In particular, to agriculture, pathogenic fungi are of great importance, as they are responsible for production losses of the most diverse types. Because of this, knowledge about pathogenic fungus is of extreme importance for farmers and professionals working in agricultural areas. Among farmers who use specific agroecological practices, this knowledge is even more valuable, since by not adopting conventional methods of production, they resort to non-invasive alternatives that are less or not harmful at all to the environment in consideration of production management methods. This study aimed to assess farmer perception in the Cerrado biome in the city of Goiás (GO), Brazil, in order to understand their ethnomycological perceptions to verify historical management practices, their knowledge about phytopathogenic fungi, and how these producers perceive fungi. We used the theoretical reference method “From peasant to peasant” formulated by ANPA - National Association of Small Farmers. Some aspects of farmers’ ethnomycological knowledge are discussed. These ease identification the representatives of the Fungi Kingdom is associated with organisms that present easily recognizable characteristics, such as wood-ears or disease-causing fungi. In general, farmers are able to identify representatives of the Fungi Kingdom that are found in their daily lives. The perception of farmers about fungi, a group still much unknown by society, is very relevant for future actions of ethnomycology.

Abstract Until recently, no native mushroom was considered food in the Cerrado biome, while there are records of the occurrence of about 638 species of fungi so far, many of which have numerous undefined potentials, with the potential for food among them. Our work presents the nutritional aspects of two mushroom species found in an agroforestry system in the Cerrado (Auricularia nigricans and Schizophyllum commune), and a morphological identification key for the edible mushroom species highlighted in this study. The nutritional composition analysis revealed a moisture content of 65 and 41%, proteins of 7 and 10%, ether extract (fat) of 1.3 and 1.5% and fiber of 2 and 2.2% for A. nigricans and S. common, respectively. In this work we highlight the nutritional potential of two species of edible mushrooms, A. nigricans and S. commune. These mushrooms show similar nutritional characteristics to those of commercially produced exotic mushrooms, being rich in proteins and minerals. These data, added to other reports of this nature recently presented, reinforce the importance of knowledge of local biodiversity and native mushrooms as a food source.

RESUMO Objetivou-se neste estudo avaliar o efeito do plantio direto sobre a densidade do solo, o teor de carbono orgânico do solo e o estoque de carbono em Plintossolo Pétrico e Latossolo Vermelho-Amarelo (Oxisols), localizados no município de Pontes e Lacerda, no Estado de Mato Grosso, Brasil. Os tratamentos foram vegetação nativa e plantio direto de 3, 8, 10 e 12 anos. Para as análises de carbono orgânico do solo amostras de solo foram coletadas em cada área, com três repetições, nas camadas de 0-0,05; 0,05-0,10; 0,10-0,20; 0,20-0,40; 0,40-0,60; 0,60-1,00; 1,00-1,50 e 1,50-2,00 m. Para a densidade do solo foram coletadas amostras indeformadas em 0-0,20 e 0,20-0,40 m. Comparando-se com a vegetação nativa, os valores da densidade do solo aos 12 anos aumentaram 25% no Latossolo Vermelho-Amarelo e 30% no Plintossolo. No Latossolo e Plintossolo, respectivamente, os teores de carbono orgânico foram, em média, 20,57; 25,04 g kg-1 na vegetação nativa; 16,82; 16,59 g kg-1 aos 3 anos de plantio direto; 13,31; 4,96 g kg-1 aos 8 anos; 16,52; 14,39 g kg-1 aos 10 anos; e 17,97; 18,53 g kg-1 aos12 anos. Em ambos os solos o plantio direto vem contribuindo para o aumento dos estoques de carbono ao longo dos anos, porém não em profundidade, limitando-se em geral até 0,20 m. Comparados à vegetação nativa, aos 12 anos de plantio direto houve diminuição dos estoques de carbono a uma taxa de 0,075 Mg ha-1 ano-1 no Plintossolo e um aumento de 2,3 Mg ha-1 ano-1 no Latossolo.

ABSTRACT The objectives of this study were to evaluate the effect of the no-tillage system on soil bulk density, soil organic carbon, and carbon stocks in Plinthic subgroups and Oxisols, located in Pontes and Lacerda, State of Mato Grosso, Brazil. The treatments were native vegetation and no-tillage systems established for 3, 8, 10, and 12 years. To analyse soil organic carbon, soils were sampled in each area, with three repetitions, at layers of 0-0.05; 0.05-0.10; 0.10-0.20; 0.20-0.40; 0.40-0.60; 0.60-1.00; 1.00-1.50 and 1.50-2.00 m. For soil bulk density, undisturbed samples were collected at layers of 0-0.20 and 0.20-0.40 m. Compared with areas of native vegetation, soil bulk density values after 12 years increased by 25% in Oxisols and 30% in the Plinthic subgroups. In Oxisols and Plinthic subgroups, respectively, organic carbon concentration was, on average, 20.57, 25.04 g kg-1 under native vegetation; 16.82, 16.59 g kg-1 after 3 years of no-tillage; 13.31, 4.96 g kg-1 after 8 years; 16.52, 14.39 g kg-1 after 10 years; and 17.97, 18.53 g kg-1 after 12 years. In both soils, the no-tillage system contributed to an increase in carbon stocks over the years, but not at depth, being generally limited to the top 0.20 m of the soils. Compared to native vegetation, after 12 years of no-tillage, carbon stocks decreased at a rate of 0.075 Mg ha-1 year-1 in the Plinthic subgroups and increased by 2.3 Mg ha-1 year-1 in Oxisols.

Resumo Fundamento A síndrome de takotsubo (takotsubo) é uma forma de cardiomiopatia adquirida. Dados nacionais sobre essa condição são escassos. O Registro REMUTA é o primeiro a incluir dados multicêntricos dessa condição no nosso país. Objetivo Descrever as características clínicas, prognóstico, tratamento intra-hospitalar e mortalidade hospitalar e em 1 ano de seguimento. Métodos Estudo observacional, retrospectivo, tipo registro. Incluídos pacientes internados com diagnóstico de takotsubo ou que desenvolveram esta condição durante internação por outra causa. Os desfechos avaliados incluíram fator desencadeador, análise dos exames, uso de medicações, complicações e óbito intra-hospitalar e em 1 ano de seguimento. O nível de significância adotado foi de 5%. Resultados Foram incluídos 169 pacientes, em 12 centros no Estado do Rio de Janeiro. A idade média foi de 70,9 ± 14,1 anos e 90,5% eram do sexo feminino; 63% dos casos foram de takotsubo primário e 37% secundário. Troponina I foi positiva em 92,5% dos pacientes e a mediana de BNP foi de 395 (176,5; 1725). Supradesnivelamento do segmento ST esteve presente em 28% dos pacientes. A fração de ejeção do ventrículo esquerdo teve mediana de 40 (35; 48)%. Observamos taxa de 25,7% de ventilação mecânica invasiva e 17,4% de choque. Suporte circulatório mecânico foi utilizado em 7,7%. A mortalidade intra-hospitalar foi de 10,6% e a mortalidade ao final de 1 ano foi de 16,5%. Takotsubo secundário e choque cardiogênico foram preditores independentes de mortalidade. Conclusão Os resultados do REMUTA mostram que takotsubo não se trata de patologia benigna como se pensava, especialmente no grupo de takotsubo secundário que acarreta elevada taxa de complicações e de mortalidade. Abstract Background Takotsubo syndrome (TTS) is an acquired form of cardiomyopathy. National Brazilian data on this condition are scarce. The Takotsubo Multicenter Registry (REMUTA) is the first to include multicenter data on this condition in Brazil. Objective To describe the clinical characteristics, prognosis, in-hospital treatment, in-hospital mortality, and mortality during 1 year of follow-up. Methods This is an observational, retrospective registry study including patients admitted to the hospital with diagnosis of TTS and patients admitted for other reasons who developed this condition. Evaluated outcomes included triggering factor, analysis of exams, use of medications, complications, in-hospital mortality, and mortality during 1 year of follow-up. A significance level of 5% was adopted. Results The registry included 169 patients from 12 centers in the state of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Mean age was 70.9 ± 14.1 years, and 90.5% of patients were female; 63% of cases were primary TTS, and 37% were secondary. Troponin I was positive in 92.5% of patients, and median BNP was 395 (176.5; 1725). ST-segment elevation was present in 28% of patients. Median left ventricular ejection fraction was 40 (35; 48)%. We observed invasive mechanical ventilation in 25.7% of cases and shock in 17.4%. Mechanical circulatory support was used in 7.7%. In-hospital mortality was 10.6%, and mortality at 1 year of follow-up was 16.5%. Secondary TTS and cardiogenic shock were independent predictors of mortality. Conclusion The results of the REMUTA show that TTS is not a benign pathology, as was once thought, especially regarding the secondary TTS group, which has a high rate of complications and mortality. O objetivo foi investigar distúrbios do sono e fatores sociodemográficos e comportamentais associados. Foi realizado um censo com universitários. Perguntas extraídas do Munich Chronotype Questionnaire investigaram: duração insuficiente do sono (< 6 horas/dia para < 65 anos e < 5 horas/dia para os demais), latência longa (> 30 minutos), baixa qualidade autopercebida, despertares noturnos (involuntários, no meio da noite) e sonolência diurna (dificuldade de concentração). Variáveis independentes englobaram características sociodemográficas e comportamentais. Análises ajustadas foram feitas com regressão de Poisson. Dos 1.865 estudantes, 32% apresentaram sono insuficiente nos dias de aula, 8,2% sono insuficiente nos finais de semana, 18,6% latência longa nos dias de aula, 17,2% latência longa nos finais de semana, 30% baixa qualidade autopercebida, 12,7% despertares noturnos e 32,2% sonolência diurna. O maior consumo de álcool esteve associado à duração insuficiente e latência longa nos dias de aula, baixa qualidade, despertares e sonolência; tabagismo com duração insuficiente nos finais de semana, despertares e baixa qualidade; e cor da pele preta ou parda com duração insuficiente nos dias de aula, baixa qualidade e despertares. Ter aulas de manhã associou-se a sono insuficiente nos dias de aula e sonolência diurna, e o sexo feminino, sonolência, baixa qualidade e despertares. Os distúrbios de sono mais frequentes foram sono insuficiente nos dias de aula, baixa qualidade autopercebida e sonolência diurna. O consumo de álcool e cigarros e a cor preta ou parda foram os principais fatores associados aos distúrbios.

The objective was to investigate sleep disorders and associated sociodemographic and behavioral factors. A census of university students was carried out. Questions extracted from the Munich Chronotype Questionnaire investigated: insufficient sleep duration (< 6 hours/day for < 65 years and < 5 hours/day for other ages), long latency (> 30 minutes), low self-rated sleep quality, nocturnal awakenings (involuntary, in the middle of the night), and daytime sleepiness (difficulty concentrating). Independent variables included sociodemographic and behavioral characteristics. Adjusted analyses were performed with Poisson regression. Of the 1,865 students, 32% exhibited insufficient sleep on class days, 8.2% insufficient sleep on weekends, 18.6% long latency on class days, 17.2% long latency on weekends, 30% low self-rated sleep quality, 12.7% nocturnal awakenings, and 32.2% daytime sleepiness. Higher alcohol consumption was associated with insufficient sleep duration and long latency on class days, low quality sleep, awakenings, and daytime sleepiness. Smoking was associated with insufficient sleep duration on weekends, awakenings, and low-quality sleep. Black and brown skin color were associated with insufficient sleep duration on class days, low-quality sleep, and awakenings. Morning classes were associated with insufficient sleep and daytime sleepiness. Female gender was associated with low-quality sleep and awakenings. The most frequent sleep disorders were insufficient sleep on class days, low self-rated quality of sleep, and daytime sleepiness. Alcohol consumption and smoking and black and brown skin color were the principal factors associated with sleep disorders.

El objetivo fue investigar trastornos del sueño, factores sociodemográficos y de comportamiento asociados. Fue realizado un censo con los estudiantes universitarios. Las preguntas extraídas del Munich Chonotype Questionnaire investigaron: duración insuficiente del sueño (< 6 horas/día para < 65 años y < 5 horas/día para los demás), latencia prolongada (> 30 minutos), baja calidad autopercibida, vigilias (involuntarias, en medio de la noche) y somnolencia diurna (dificultad de concentración). Las variables independientes englobaron características sociodemográficas y de comportamiento. Se realizaron análisis ajustados con regresión de Poisson. De los 1.865 estudiantes, un 32% presentaron sueño insuficiente durante los días de clase, un 8,2% sueño insuficiente los fines de semana, un 18,6% latencia prolongada durante los días de clase, un 17,2% latencia prolongada durante los fines de semana, un 30% baja calidad autopercibida, un 12,7% vigilias y un 32,2% somnolencia diurna. El mayor consumo de alcohol se asoció a la duración insuficiente y latencia prolongada los días de clase, baja calidad de sueño, vigilias y somnolencia; el tabaquismo con duración insuficiente de sueño durante los fines de semana, vigilias y baja calidad de sueño, así como color de piel negro o mulato con una duración insuficiente de sueño durante los días de clase, baja calidad del mismo y vigilias. Tener clases por la mañana se asoció a sueño insuficiente durante los días de clase, somnolencia diurna, y el sexo femenino con somnolencia, baja calidad y vigilias. Los disturbios de sueño más frecuentes fueron sueño insuficiente durante los días de clase, baja calidad autopercibida y somnolencia diurna. El consumo de alcohol y cigarrillos, así como el color negro o mulato fueron los principales factores asociados a los disturbios.

RESUMO O sarampo é uma doença exantemática febril aguda de etiologia viral altamente contagiosa. É causa de morbidade e mortalidade de crianças em países em desenvolvimento, ao passo que se tornou mais rara em países desenvolvidos devido à vacinação. O diagnóstico diferencial deve ser realizado em relação a outras doenças da infância, como influenza, rinovírus, adenoviroses, rubéola, roséola e varicela. Já em regiões tropicais, inclui dengue, vírus da zika e chikungunya. Seu quadro clínico apresenta as seguintes fases: a de incubação - em geral assintomática; a prodrômica - na qual podem ocorrer febre, mal-estar e coriza, além de sinais de Koplik; e a exantemática - com presença de exantema maculopapular após o quadro febril, que progride de forma craniocaudal, com melhora clínica em casos não complicados. Complicações comuns são pneumonia, otite média e ceratoconjuntivite; as mais raras, encefalomielite disseminada aguda e panencefalite esclerosante subaguda. Alterações laboratoriais inespecíficas são vistas no hemograma. O diagnóstico laboratorial específico baseia-se na detecção do ácido ribonucleico (RNA) viral [reação em cadeia da polimerase (PCR) de amostras de swab nasal, mucosa oral ou urina]. Imunoglobulina da classe M (IgM) pode ser detectada durante o período exantemático por ensaio de imunoadsorção enzimática (ELISA) e imunoglobulina da classe G (IgG), ao longo do período de convalescença, podendo também ser realizada a detecção de IgG específica pelo teste de neutralização por redução de placas. A profilaxia da doença é baseada na vacinação em crianças a partir dos 15 meses de idade, visando atingir cerca de 85% a 95% da população, o que confere imunidade de rebanho. A vacinação é a medida mais eficaz no combate ao sarampo, visto que o tratamento consiste apenas em suporte clínico.

ABSTRACT Measles is an acute febrile exanthematic disease of viral etiology, highly contagious, being the cause of morbidity and mortality of children in developing countries, whereas it has become rarer in developed countries due to vaccination. Its differential diagnosis should be made with other childhood viral respiratory diseases such as influenza, rhinovirus and adenovirus, and exanthematic febrile diseases such as rubella, roseola and varicella. In tropical regions, it should be performed with dengue, zika and chikungunya. Its clinical picture presents the following phases: incubation, usually asymptomatic; a prodrome, in which fever, malaise, coryza can occur, besides Koplik’s signs; exanthematic, with presence of maculopapular exanthema after the fever condition that progresses to a craniocaudal evolution, with clinical improvement in uncomplicated cases. Common complications are pneumonia, otitis media, keratitis; the rarest are acute disseminated encephalomyelitis and subacute sclerosing panencephalitis. Nonspecific laboratory alterations are seen in the blood count. The specific laboratory diagnosis is based on the detection of viral ribonucleic acid (RNA) [polymerase chain reaction (PCR) of nasal swab samples, oral mucosa or urine]. Immunoglobulin class M (IgM) can be detected during the exanthematous period by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), and immunoglobulin class G (IgG) throughout the convalescence period, and the detection of specific IgG by the plaque reduction neutralization test may also be performed. The prophylaxis of the disease is based on vaccination in children from 15 months in order to reach about 85% to 95% of the population, what confers herd immunity. Thus, vaccination is the most effective measure in combating measles, since the treatment consists only of clinical and symptomatic support.

RESUMEN El sarampión es una enfermedad exantemática febril aguda de etiología viral altamente contagiosa. Causa morbilidad y mortalidad de niños en países en desarrollo, mientras que se hizo más raro en países desarrollados gracias a la vacunación. El diagnóstico diferencial se hace con otras enfermedades infantiles, como influenza, rinovirus, adenovirus, rubéola, roséola y varicela. En regiones tropicales, incluye dengue, zika y chikungunya. Su cuadro clínico presenta las siguientes fases: incubación - en general asintomática; pródromo - en la cual pueden ocurrir fiebre, malestar y coriza, además de manchas de Koplik; y la exantemática - con presencia de exantema máculo-papular después del cuadro febril, que se disemina desde la cara a tronco y extremidades, con mejora clínica en casos no complicados. Complicaciones comunes son neumonía, otitis media y queratoconjuntivitis; las más raras, encefalomielitis aguda diseminada y panencefalitis esclerosante subaguda. Alteraciones inespecíficas de laboratorio son vistas en el hemograma. El diagnóstico específico de laboratorio se basa en el aislamiento del ácido ribonucleico (ARN) viral (PCR de muestras nasales, mucosa oral u orina). La inmunoglobulina M (IgM) pude ser detectada durante el período exantemático por ensayo por inmunoadsorción ligado a enzimas (ELISA); la inmunoglobulina G (IgG), a lo largo del período de convalecencia, y la detección de IgG específica por la prueba de neutralización por reducción de placa. La profilaxis de la enfermedad se basa en vacunación en niños desde los 15 meses de edad, buscando alcanzar 85%-95% de la población, lo que confiere inmunidad de grupo. La vacunación es la medida más eficaz en el combate al sarampión, puesto que el tratamiento consiste sólo en soporte clínico.

Abstract: The banana tree is associated with different species of endophytic bacteria that can stimulate plant growth. However, further studies are needed to better understand the relationships between this group of bacteria and the host plant. The objective of this study was to investigate the localization of the EB-40 (Bacillus sp.) through anatomical and ultrastructural analyses in micropropagated banana plantlets. The results demonstrated the effective colonization of the EB-40 isolate in the intercellular and intracellular spaces, as well as in the rhizosphere region. The wall of endophytic bacteria contains calcium and nitrogen. The EB-40 isolate was also observed to associate with the plasma membrane and cell wall. These results further our understanding of the mechanisms involved in the colonization of plant cells by endophytic bacteria in micropropagated banana plantlets.

RESUMO A febre amarela é uma doença infecciosa de evolução aguda, a princípio não contagiosa, transmitida por um vírus do ácido ribonucleico (RNA) que pertence à família Flaviviridae. No período de dezembro de 2016 a 17 de março de 2017, foram notificados ao Ministério da Saúde, 1.561 casos suspeitos de febre amarela silvestre no Brasil. Destes, 850 (54, 8%) permanecem em investigação; 448 (28, 7%) foram confirmados e 263 (16, 9%), descartados. Do total dos casos notificados, 264 evoluíram para óbito, sendo 144 (54, 5%) confirmados para a doença; 110 (41, 7%) em investigação e 10 (3, 8%), descartados. A taxa de letalidade entre os casos confirmados foi de 32, 2%. O diagnóstico específico para determinação da etiologia da infecção pode ser feito por meio da demonstração da resposta humoral dos anticorpos, do isolamento do vírus ou do estudo histopatológico do fígado. Apenas mediante o diagnóstico laboratorial precoce e o abastecimento de dados epidemiológicos é que governo e organizações cooperativas poderão estabelecer políticas públicas de combate a futuras epidemias da doença, bem como campanhas de conscientização social.

ABSTRACT Yellow fever is an infectious disease of acute evolution, initially non-contagious, transmitted by a ribonucleic acid (RNA) virus that belongs to the Flaviviridae family. In the period from December 2016 until March 17, 2017, 1, 561 suspected cases of wild yellow fever were reported to the Ministry of Health in Brazil. Among these cases, 850 (54.8%) remain under investigation, 448 (28.7%) were confirmed and 263 (16.9%) were discarded. Out of the total cases reported, 264 died, 144 (54.5%) were confirmed for the disease, 110 (41.7%) were investigated and 10 (3.8%) were discarded. The case fatality rate among confirmed cases was 32.2%. The specific diagnosis for determining the etiology of infection can be made by demonstrating the humoral response of the antibodies, virus isolation, or histopathological study of the liver. Only through early laboratory diagnosis and epidemiological data supply can government and cooperative organizations establish public policies to combat future disease epidemics, as well as social awareness campaigns.

ABSTRACT Forty isolates of endophytic bacteria isolated from banana tree roots were assessed as to their capacity to solubilize phosphate in a solid culture medium supplemented with different inorganic and one organic source of phosphorus. The amount of phosphorus (P) in each liquid medium was quantified, and an indirect assessment of acid phosphatase activity was performed. All assays had a fully randomized design, with three repetitions. Approximately 67.5% of the 40 isolates assessed in solid medium solubilized phosphorus from tricalcium phosphate and 7.5% of the isolates solubilized phosphorus from soy lecithin; no isolates exhibited P solubilization capacity in medium supplemented with iron phosphate. Acid phosphatase activity was detected in 65% of the isolates; Aneurinibacillus sp. and Lysinibacillus sp. isolates presented with the best solubilization indexes. All of the assessed isolates exhibited a capacity to reduce the potential of hydrogen in liquid medium supplemented with tricalcium phosphate. Isolate EB. 78 (Bacillus sp.) exhibited P solubilization capacity in solid media when Ca3(PO4)2 and soy lecithin were used as P sources; this isolate significantly reduced the pH of the liquid medium and exhibited acid phosphatase activity. The results of the present study highlight isolates that exhibit variations in their capacity to solubilize P. These isolates should be used in future tests to assess their field performance.
