ABSTRACT Introduction: Myocardial ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) injury is one of the mechanisms contributing to the high mortality rate of acute myocardial infarction. Purpose: This study intended to study the role of naringin in cardiac I/R injury. Methods: AC16 cells (human cardiomyocyte cell line) were subjected to oxygen-glucose deprivation/recovery (OGD/R) treatment and/or naringin pretreatment. Then, the apoptosis was examined by flow cytometry and Western blotting. The concentration of IL-6, IL-8 and TNF-α was measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) kits. How naringin influenced microRNA expression was examined by microarrays and quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR). Dual luciferase reporter assay was employed to evaluate the interaction between miR-126 and GSK-3β. The GSK-3β/β-catenin signaling pathway was examined by Western blotting. Finally, rat myocardial I/R model was created to examine the effects of naringin in vivo. Results: Naringin pretreatment significantly decreased the cytokine release and apoptosis of cardiomyocytes exposed to OGD/R. Bioinformatical analysis revealed that naringin upregulated miR-126 expression considerably. Also, it was found that miR-126 can bind GSK-3β and downregulate its expression, suggesting that naringin could decrease GSK-3β activity. Next, we discovered that naringin increased β-catenin activity in cardiomyocytes treated with OGD/R by inhibiting GSK-3β expression. Our animal experiments showed that naringin pre-treatment or miR-126 agomir alleviated myocardial I/R. Conclusions: Naringin preconditioning can reduce myocardial I/R injury via regulating miR-126/GSK-3β/β-catenin signaling pathway, and this chemical can be used to treat acute myocardial infarction.

Abstract Background: Relapse and metastasis of patients with Colorectal Cancer (CRC) is the major obstacle to the long-term life of patients. Its mechanisms remain defined. Methods: A total of 48 CRC patients were enrolled and 68 samples were obtained from the peripheral blood of patients before or after treatments in this study. Twenty non-cancer patients were also detected as a negative control. Circulating Tumor Cells (CTCs), including Epithelial CTCs (eCTCs), Mesenchymal (MCTCs), and epithelial/ mesenchymal mixed phenotypes (mixed CTCs), were identified by CanPatrolTM CTC enrichment and RNA in situ hybridization. The relationship between CTCs number and Progression-Free Survival (PFS) or Overall Survival (OS) was evaluated. Results: Thirty-four of 48 patients (70.8%) were found to have positive CTCs. Total CTCs and MCTCs in the post-treatment had a significant correlation PFS and OS. When total CTCs or MCTCs in 5 mL blood of patients were more than 6 CTCs or 5 MCTCs, PFS of the patients was significantly shorter (p < 0.05) than that in patients with less than 6 CTCs or 5 MCTCs. The patients with > 5 CTCs count changes were found to exhibit poor PFS and OS rates (p < 0.05). Conclusion: Total CTCs and MCTCs number detection in patients with colorectal cancer was very useful biomarker for predicting the prognosis of patients. Higher CTCs or MCTCs had poorer PFS and OS rates.

Abstract In this study, we investigated the influence of alginate oligosaccharides (AOS) coating on the quality of white shrimp (P. vannamei) at 4 ± 1 °C. We measured shrimp quality by surveying changes in certain properties, such as sensory quality, the microbiota, total volatile basic nitrogen (TVB-N), pH, and sensory characteristics. Compared to control group, AOS coating effectively stopped the growth of bacteria and decreased the formation of TVB-N (from 40% down to 30%). The pH of samples treated with AOS was visibly lower than that of the control group. The sensory quality of the AOS coated shrimp resembled microbial and physicochemical properties, and the acceptability was improved. Furthermore, we found the abundance of spoilage microorganisms, such as Shewanella and Pseudoalteromonas, in AOS coated groups is reduced compared to control groups. All these results suggest that our AOS coating treatment may improve storage and preservation of frozen shrimp.

Abstract Objective: To modify the chronic atrial fibrillation of atrial tachycardia pacing in beagles with a homemade pacemaker placed outside the body and to evaluate connective tissue growth factor and fibrosis of atrial tissue in our modified atrial tachycardia pacing beagle model. Methods: Twelve adult beagles of either sex were randomly divided into an atrial tachycardia pacing group and a control group (n=6 in each group). We performed the temporary pacemaker implantation at the right atrial appendage and put the pacemaker into the pocket of dog clothing in the atrial tachycardia pacing group. After eight weeks of atrial tachycardia pacing, the electrocardiography, transthoracic echocardiography, hematoxylin-eosin staining, and Masson’s staining of the right atrial appendages were performed along with the immunohistochemistry, quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction, and Western blot analysis of connective tissue growth factor, collagen I, and collagen III. Results: In the atrial tachycardia pacing group, atrial fibrillation was induced in five beagles (83.3%); the left atrium enlarged significantly; more canines had mitral regurgitation; and the Masson’s staining, quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction, and Western blot results demonstrated more obvious fibrosis of the left atrium. Conclusion: The modified beagle model of atrial fibrillation using a right atrium pacemaker outside the body was effective, increased connective tissue growth factor and collagen I messenger ribonucleic acid overexpression, and induced atrial fibrosis.

Low-cost ceramic proppants were successfully prepared from natural bauxite and solid waste coal gangue via CaCO3 additive. 40 wt% of bauxite in raw materials was replaced by coal gangue, which significantly reduced the manufacturing costs. The apparent density, bulk density, acid solubility and breakage ratio of the proppant sintered at different temperatures were systematically investigated. The phase composition and morphological structure were determined using X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The results show that the amount of liquid phase affected the solid phase reaction velocity by changing sintering mechanism. When the sintering temperature was 1350 °C, the optimum size of the mullite crystal particles and the optimum amount of the liquid phase were observed and the samples exhibited the best performance.

Abstract Total spikelet number per spike (TSS) is one of the key components of grain yield in wheat. Chromosome (chr.) 2D contains numerous genes that control TSS. In this study, we evaluated 138 F8 recombinant inbred lines (RILs) derived from an F2 population of a synthetic hexaploid wheat line (SHW-L1) and a common wheat cultivar (Chuanmai 32) for TSS in six different environments. To identify quantitative trait loci (QTL) for TSS, we constructed an integrated high-density genetic map of chr. 2D containing two simple sequence repeats, 35 diversity array technology markers, and 143 single nucleotide polymorphisms. We identified three stable QTL for TSS that individually explained 9.7–19.2% of the phenotypic variation and predicted 23 putative candidate genes within the QTL mapping interval. Overall, our results provide insight into the genetic basis of TSS in synthetic hexaploid wheat that may be useful in breeding high-yielding wheat cultivars.

Dichlorodimethylsilane is the most important raw material for the preparation of organic silicon materials. Currently, the preparation of dichlorodimethylsilane is mainly based on disproportionation method. This method can turn wastes (by-products) into treasures but the mechanism is still indeterminate. In this study, MP2/6-311++G (3df, 2pd) basis set was used to study the mechanism of the disproportionation for producing dichlorodimethylsilane. Dichlorodimethylsilane is catalyzed by 24T cluster AlCl3/ZSM-5 catalyst and modified by (AlCl2)+, and (BCl2)+. The calculation results show that the rate-determining step is the reaction of the catalyst with trimethylchlorosilane . The activation energy of the rate-determining step of main reaction is: 393.83, 427.73, and 527.61 kJ mol-1, respectively. The structure analysis, activation energy analysis and LOL analysis for different catalysts all show that the catalytic effect of unmodified AlCl3/ZSM-5 is better.

The state recognition based on the image processing can identify whether or not the target is in normal state. In this paper, there are three creative works in our scheme. Firstly, the improved threshold segmentation (ITS) method can obtain the optimal parameters of the foreground and the background, and it will be favorable for the feature extraction. Secondly, we construct the geometric area ratio (GAR) feature vector to intensify the patterns to simplify the successive state recognition. Thirdly, a novel state recognition algorithm (NSRA) can correctly classify the states of the unknown patterns. Experiments demonstrate the ITS has a best edge effect than the Wavelet method. The proposed GAR feature vector is effective to reflect the similarity of the samples in same Log operator method. The presented NSRA is suitable for the state recognition of the target in an image. In the other words, the proposed algorithm can recognize effectively and correctly the unknown patterns.
