Resumo Objetivos O objetivo do estudo é identifìcar os principals fatores de risco relacionados a má evolução do tratamento da infecção periprótese. Métodos Foram avaliados de forma retrospectiva os prontuários de 109 pacientes submetidos a cirurgias de endoprótese não convencional (primárias e revisões), no período de 01 de janeiro de 2007 a 31 de dezembro de 2018. Destes, 15 pacientes diagnosticadas com infecção periprótese foram elegíveis para a participação no estudo. As variáveis sexo, idade do diagnóstico, osso acometido, duração da cirurgia, contagem de leucócitos no pré-operatório, infecção do trato urinário no 1° ano pós-operatório e tempo decorrido entre a colocação da endoprótese e o diagnóstico da infecção foram relacionadas aos desfechos utilizando o Teste Exato de Fisher (variáveis bicategóricas) e o Teste Anova (variáveis tricategóricas). A média de tempo entre diagnóstico e desfecho foram comparadas pelo método de t-student. Resultados Os fatores de risco avaliados não demostraram correlação estatisticamente significante com os desfechos. Os dados demonstram haver tendência de diferença entre a média de tempo do aparecimento do processo infeccioso e o desfecho final do paciente. Devido a amostra limitada, acreditamos que estudos com coortes maiores possam comprovar essa tendência. Conclusão Identificamos que o tempo entre a cirurgia de colocação da endoprótese e o aparecimento dos sintomas de infecção tende a ter relação com o desfecho e a evolução do paciente no tratamento da infecção periprótese. Os demais fatores associados, apesar de aparentemente relacionados, também não se mostraram estatisticamente relacionados a má evolução no tratamento.

Abstract Objectives To identify the main risk factors related to poor outcomes after the treatment for periprosthetic infection. Materials and Methods Medical records from 109 patients who underwent non-conventional endoprosthesis surgeries (primary and revision procedures) from January 1’ 2007’ to December 31’ 2018’ were retrospectively evaluated. In total’ 15 patients diagnosed with periprosthetic infection were eligible to participate in the study. Variables including gender’ ageatdiagnosis’ affected bone’ surgery duration’white blood cell (WBC) count before endoprosthesis placement’ urinary tract infection during the first postoperative year, and time elapsed from endoprosthesis placement to infection diagnosis were related to outcomes using the Fisherexact test (for the bicategorical variables) or analysis of variance (ANOVA’ for the tricategorical variables). The mean times from diagnosis to final outcome were compared using the Student t-test. Results These risk factors did not show a statistically significant correlation with the outcomes. The data revealed a trend towards a difference between the mean time for the onset of infection and the final outcome. Due to the limited sample, we believe that studies with larger cohorts can prove this trend. Conclusion We identified that the time from endoprosthesis placement to the onset of the symptoms of infection tends to be related to the outcome and evolution of the patient evolution during the treatment for periprosthetic infection. Although apparently correlated, other associated factors were not statistically linked to poor treatment outcomes.

Resumo O bioma Cerrado brasileiro (BCB) está entre os 25 hotspots de biodiversidade identificados em todo o mundo, e abrange a área de recarga de importantes aqüíferos e rios da América do Sul. O aumento do desmatamento vem ameaçando a disponibilidade de água na região. A fim de auxiliar na gestão dos recursos hídricos da BCB, este estudo tem como objetivo modelar a vazão diária em uma bacia do Cerrado, utilizando duas abordagens: um modelo baseado em processo (Soil and Water Assessment Tool - SWAT) e um modelo orientado por dados (Artificial Neural Network - ANN). O desempenho dos modelos foi avaliado pelo coeficiente de Nash-Sutcliffe (NSE), coeficiente de determinação (R2) e curvas de duração de fluxo (FDC). Os resultados indicam que os modelos SWAT (NSE > 0,61; R2 > 0,68) e ANN (NSE > 0,91; R2 > 0,79) são ferramentas adequadas na modelagem diária de vazões da bacia estudada, sendo o modelo ANN o mais preciso. Com base no FDC, o modelo ANN também foi melhor do que o modelo SWAT para todas as frequências avaliadas. Assim, o modelo ANN é uma nova abordagem promissora para modelagem de fluxo diário nesta região. Além disso, os resultados deste estudo podem ajudar os gestores de recursos hídricos no planejamento e implementação de medidas adequadas de alocação e conservação de água no bioma Cerrado brasileiro.

Abstract The Brazilian Cerrado biome (BCB) is among 25 biodiversity hotspots identified worldwide, and covers the recharge area of important aquifers and rivers in South America. The increase in deforestation has been threatening water availability in this region. In order to assist in the water-resource management of the BCB, this study models the daily streamflow in a basin of the Cerrado, using two approaches: a process-based model (Soil and Water Assessment Tool - SWAT) and the data-driven model (Artificial Neural Network - ANN). The performance of the models was evaluated by the Nash-Sutcliffe coefficient (NSE), coefficient of determination (R2) and flow-duration-curves (FDC). The results indicate that SWAT (NSE > 0.61; R2 > 0.68) and ANN (NSE > 0.91; R2 > 0.79) models are suitable tools in daily streamflow modeling of the studied basin, with the ANN model being the most accurate. Based on FDC, the ANN model was also better than the SWAT model for all frequencies evaluated. Thus, the ANN model is a promising new approach for daily streamflow modelling in this region. Moreover, the results of this study can help water-resource managers in planning and implementing appropriate water allocation and conservation measures in the Brazilian Cerrado biome.

Resumo O bioma Cerrado brasileiro é a maior e mais rica savana tropical do mundo e está entre os 25 hotspots de biodiversidade identificados em todo o mundo. No entanto, o escasso monitoramento hidrológico, recorrente nesta região, tem gerado problemas na gestão dos recursos hídricos. A fim de fornecer ferramentas para a gestão adequada dos recursos hídricos na região do bioma Cerrado brasileiro, este trabalho desenvolve a regionalização das vazões máximas, médias e mínimas na bacia do rio Tocantins (287.405,5 km2), totalmente localizada no bioma Cerrado brasileiro. Os registros de vazão de 32 estações fluviométricas na bacia do rio Tocantins foram examinados usando o teste de Mann-Kendall e o método não paramétrico de homogeneidade hidrológica index-flood. Uma região homogênea foi identificada para a estimativa das vazões Qltm (vazão média de longo termo), Q90% (vazão igualada ou excedida em 90% do tempo), Q95% (vazão igualada ou excedida em 95% do tempo) e Q7,10 (vazão mínima anual das médias de 7 dias e tempo de retorno de 10 anos). Duas regiões homogêneas foram identificadas para a estimativa da vazão máxima anual e a distribuição de valor extremo generalizado foi encontrada para descrever a distribuição de eventos máximos apropriadamente dentro de ambas as regiões. Modelos regionais foram desenvolvidos para cada vazão de cada região e avaliados pela validação cruzada. Esses modelos podem ser usados para a estimativa de vazões máximas, médias e mínimas em bacias não medidas dentro da bacia do rio Tocantins, dentro dos limites de área identificados. Portanto, os resultados fornecidos neste artigo são ferramentas valiosas para a prática de gestores de recursos hídricos no bioma Cerrado brasileiro.

Abstract The Brazilian Cerrado biome is the largest and richest tropical savanna in the world and is among the 25 biodiversity hotspots identified worldwide. However, the lack of adequate hydrological monitoring in this region has led to problems in the management of water resources. In order to provide tools for the adequate management of water resources in the Brazilian Cerrado biome region, this paper develops the regionalization of maximum, mean and minimum streamflows in the Tocantins River Basin (287,405.5 km2), fully located in the Brazilian Cerrado biome. The streamflow records of 32 gauging stations in the Tocantins River Basin are examined using the Mann-Kendall test and the hydrological homogeneity non-parametric index-flood method. One homogeneous region was identified for the estimate of the streamflows Qltm (long-term mean streamflow), Q90% (streamflow with 90% of exceeding time), Q95% (streamflow with 95% of exceeding time) and Q7,10 (minimum annual streamflow over 7 days and return period of 10 years). Two homogeneous regions were identified for maximum annual streamflow estimation and the Generalized Extreme Value distribution is found to describe the distribution of maximus events appropriately within the both regions. Regional models were developed for each streamflow of each region and evaluated by cross-validation. These models can be used for the estimation of maximum, mean and minimum streamflows in ungauged basins within the Tocantins River Basin within the area boundaries identified. Therefore, the results provided in this paper are valuable tools for practicing water-resource managers in the Brazilian Cerrado biome.

ABSTRACT Hydro-sedimentological models might be useful tools for investigating the effectiveness of soil and water conservation practices. However, evaluating the usefulness of such models requires that predictions are tested against observational data and that uncertainty from model parameterization is addressed. Here we aimed to evaluate the capacity of the SWAT model to simulate monthly streamflow and sediment load in the Posses creek catchment (12 km2), Southeast Brazil. The SUFI-2 algorithm from SWAT-CUP was applied for calibration, testing, uncertainty, and sensitivity analysis. The model was calibrated and initially tested using discharge and sediment load data, which were measured at the catchment outlet. Additionally, we used soil loss measurements from erosion plots within the catchment as independent data for model evaluation. Average monthly streamflow simulations obtained satisfactory results, with Nash-Sutcliffe coefficient (NSE) values of 0.75 and 0.51 for the calibration and testing periods, respectively. Sediment load simulations also displayed satisfactory results for calibration (NSE = 0.65) and testing (NSE = 0.52). However, the comparison with independent plot data revealed that SWAT severely overestimated hillslope erosion rates and compensated it with high sediment channel deposition. Moreover, the model was not sensitive to the parameters used for calculating hillslope sediment yields. Therefore, it should be used with caution for evaluating the interactions between land use, soil erosion, and sediment delivery. We found that the commonly used outlet-based approach for model calibration and testing can lead to internal misrepresentations, and models can reproduce the right answer for the wrong reasons.

Resumo Este estudo teve como objetivo mapear chuvas intensas com durações de 10, 30, 720 e 1440 minutos, associadas aos tempos de retorno de 10, 50 e 100 anos, para o Estado do Tocantins. Foram aplicadas séries históricas de 95 postos pluviométricos localizados no Estado do Tocantins e proximidades, com período padronizado de 1983 a 2013. Foi conduzido um estudo geoestatístico, avaliando-se os modelos de semivariograma esférico, exponencial e gaussiano, ajustados pelo método dos mínimos quadrados ponderados. A partir deste estudo, o modelo que apresentou o menor erro médio com base na validação cruzada foi aplicado ao processo de mapeamento por krigagem ordinária. Houve bom desempenho das técnicas geoestatísticas, podendo-se destacar o modelo esférico para o mapeamento da precipitação máxima diária anual, e o modelo gaussiano para as chuvas calculadas pela metodologia de desagregação. Verificou-se ainda que as áreas de ocorrência das chuvas intensas de maior severidade no estado estão no Bico do Papagaio (norte), Ilha do Bananal (sudoeste) e noroeste do estado.

Abstract This study aimed to map heavy rainfall with durations of 10, 30, 720 and 1440 minutes, associated with return times of 10, 50 and 100 years for the Tocantins State. Historical series of 95 pluviometric stations located in the Tocantins State and nearby were applied, with standard period from 1983 to 2013. A geostatistical study was conducted, evaluating the spherical, exponential and gaussian semivariogram models, adjusted by the weighted least squares method. From this study, the model that presented the smallest average error based on cross-validation was applied to the mapping process by ordinary kriging. There was good performance of the geostatistical techniques, being possible to highlight the spherical model for the mapping of the annual maximum daily precipitation and the Gaussian model for the rains calculated by the methodology of disaggregation. It was also verified that the areas of intense rainfall of greater severity in the state are in the Bico do Papagaio (north), Bananal Island (southwest) and northwest of the state.

RESUMO A seca meteorológica é um fenômeno natural caracterizado por precipitações abaixo da média, com relação ao valor esperado ou normal, que podem afectar vários sectores econômicos e levar a um período com vazões inadequadas para usos estabelecidos (seca hidrológica). Foi aplicado o Índice de Precipitação Padronizado (SPI) e o Índice de Escoamento Padronizado (SSI) para identificar a ocorrência e a intensidade das secas na bacia hidrográfica do rio Doce (DRB), Sudeste do Brasil. Para isso, foram seleccionadas 71 estações pluviométricas e uma estação de vazão com séries históricas mensais de 30 anos (1987 a 2017). O SPI e o SSI foram calculados para o ano hidrológico (outubro-setembro) e para as estações do ano (primavera, verão, outono e inverno). O mapeamento do SPI foi realizado por procedimentos geoestatísticos. O coeficiente de correlação de Pearson foi calculado para analisar a influência da meteorologia na seca hidrológica. Os principais eventos meteorológicos de seca foram observados nos anos hidrológicos de 1994/95, 2000/01 e em um período recente e consecutivo de quatro anos hidrológicos (2013-2017), principalmente influenciados por eventos na primavera e verão e, em menor escala, no outono. Foi observada a influência da seca meteorológica sobre a hidrológica em escala anual e sazonal, exceto no inverno, em que a baixa pluviosidade não influenciou a vazão.

ABSTRACT Meteorological drought is a natural hazard characterized as below-average precipitation from expected or normal that can affect various economic sectors, and lead to period with inadequate streamflow for established uses of the water (hydrological drought). We aimed to apply the Standardized Precipitation Index (SPI) and Standardized Streamflow Index (SSI) to identify the occurrence and the intensity of droughts in Doce River Basin (DRB), Southeastern Brazil. For this purpose, 71 rain gauge stations and one streamflow station were selected with 30-year monthly historical series (1987 to 2017). The SPI and SSI were calculated for the hydrological year (October-September) and the seasons (Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter). SPI mapping was performed by geostatistical procedures. Pearson's coefficient was calculated to analyze the influence of meteorological on hydrological drought. The main meteorological drought events, observed in the hydrological years of 1994/95, 2000/01, and a recent and consecutive period of four hydrological years (2013-2017), were mainly influenced by events in spring and summer and, to a lesser extent, in fall. It was observed the influence of the meteorological drought on the hydrological drought on an annual and seasonal scale, except winter, where low precipitation does not influence in the streamflow.

ABSTRACT Hydrosedimentological modeling is a useful tool to predict the water dynamic in a basin and for water resources management. This study aimed to i) evaluate the ability of Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) to model sediment load and continuous monthly streamflow in the Mortes River Basin (MRB) in Southeastern Brazil; ii) estimate the sediment yield spatially distributed by sub-basins; iii) estimate the sediment load export to the Funil Hydroelectric Power Plant reservoir (FHPP), located in the MRB outlet. For the sensitivity analysis, calibration, and uncertainty analysis of the model, a semi-automatic calibration in SWAT-CUP version 5.1.6 software with the “Sequential Uncertainty Fitting” algorithm was used. To evaluate the ability of SWAT to reproduce the continuous MRB monthly streamflow and sediment load, statistical indexes, and graphical analyses were used to compare the simulated and observed data. For the sediment evaluation, a spatial and temporal comparison of sediment yield maps was used as well as the sediment yield observed in sub-basins, aiming to identify the areas with a more significant contribution to the sediment generation in the basin. The results demonstrated that SWAT performed satisfactorily in simulating both monthly sediment load and streamflow. For discharge calibration, 99 % of the measured data were bracketed by the 95 % prediction uncertainty (95PPU), and for validation, 97 % of the data were bracketed by the 95PPU, which indicates proper bracketing of the measured data within model prediction uncertainty. Uncertainty analysis indicated that 95PPU could capture 78 % of the sediment loads measured during the calibration and 72 % of the measured data during the validation period at MRB. The hydrologic response unit with pasture and Argissolos (Ultisols), Neossolos Litólicos (Entisols), and Cambissolos (Inceptisols) combined with undulated relief were the main areas responsible for the highest sediment contributions. The sediment load delivered to the reservoir from its filling 2002 to 2015 was estimated in 6,682,704 m3 (16,706,761 Mg) (density of 2.5-Mg m-3) which value corresponded to 2.6 % of storage capacity (water plus sediment) in 14 years. These results are strategic since to become feasible identifying priority areas for soil and water conservation practices as well as useful information for water resources planning and management in the studied basin.

Resumo Vazões máximas e mínimas são fundamentais para a gestão dos recursos hídricos, especialmente para outorga de uso da água. Entretanto, a falta de monitoramento e a escassez de dados de vazão são fatores limitantes para tais estudos. Para contornar tal dificuldade, uma das ferramentas mais utilizadas é a regionalização de vazões. O objetivo neste estudo foi desenvolver modelos de regionalização para vazões máximas e mínimas de referênciapara a bacia hidrográfica do Rio das Mortes (MRB) (Unidade de Planejamento e Gestão dos Recursos Hídricos - GD2), sul do estado de Minas Gerais. As séries históricas de vazão de longo termo utilizadas foram disponibilizada pela Agência Nacional das Águas (ANA). Uma análise exploratório preliminar foi realizada, bem como a análise da estacionariedade das séries por meio do teste de tendências de Mann-Kendall. As Funções Densidade de Probabilidade (PDFs) com diferentes números de parâmetros foram utilizadas para estimar as vazões mínimas e máximas associadas a diferentes tempos de retorno e a performance foi avaliada por meio do teste de Anderson-Darling. A Generalized Extreme Values e Wakeby foram as distribuições mais apropriadas para vazões máximas e mínimas, respectivamente. O modelo de regressão para vazões foi ajustado utilizando como variável independente a área de drenagem das estações fluviométricas, sendo que os coeficientes de determinação obtidos foram superiores a 0,90. Desta forma, os modelos de regionalização demonstraram uma boa performance e são uma ferramenta potencial para ser utilizada na gestão dos recursos hídricos.

Abstract Maximum and minimum streamflow are fundamental for water resource management, especially for water rights. However, lack of monitoring and scarce streamflow data limit such studies. Streamflow regionalization is a useful tool to overcome these limitations. The study developed models for regionalization of the maximum and minimum reference streamflows for the Mortes River Basin (MRB) (Water Resources Planning and Management Unit - GD2), Southern Minas Gerais State. The study used long-term streamflow historical series provided by the Brazilian National Water Agency (ANA). Previous exploratory analysis was performed, and it was observed that the streamflow series are stationary according to the Mann-Kendall test. The estimation of the streamflow for different return periods (RP) was performed by fitting Probability Density Functions (PDFs) that were tested by the Anderson-Darling (AD) test. The Generalized Extreme Values (GEV) and Wakeby were the most appropriate PDFs for maximum and minimum streamflows, respectively. The streamflow models were fitted using a power regression procedure, considering the drainage area of the watersheds as inputs. The fittings reached the coefficient of determination (R2) greater than 0.90. Thus, the streamflow regionalization models demonstrated good performance and are a potential tool to be used for water resource management in the studied basin.

ABSTRACT The state of Tocantins is inserted in the new Brazilian agricultural frontier and has shown enormous potential for expansion of the agricultural lands. However, there is a lack of more elaborate scientific information for better planning and guide agricultural activities, especially regarding the soil and water conservation. Tocantins has a relevant rainfall spatial variability and, consequently, rainfall erosivity. Thus, this work aimed to develop models to estimate the mean monthly and annual rainfall and means rainfall erosivity factor (R-factor) of the Universal Soil Loss Equation (USLE) for the state of Tocantins. For that, 97 historical series of daily rainfall were studied, considering a standard period of 25 years (1985-2009). The fitting of the models adjustment datasets consists of 86 rain-gauges, out of which, 11 were randomly selected and used solely for model validation. Afterward, maps of these variables were generated based on the regression-kriging procedure. The fitted models presented precision statistical that allow characterizing them as “good quality”, with a coefficient of determination higher than 0.68 for rainfall models and 0.65 for the R-factor model, besides acceptable bias. Therefore, the application of the models can be successfully carried out, aiding the agricultural planning in the state of Tocantins.

ABSTRACT Land-use changes are considered one of the most important factors that affect the water resources. The objective of this study was to investigate the potential impacts of land-use changes on the hydrological behavior of the Upper Grande River Basin, southern Minas Gerais state, Brazil, based on different land-use scenarios using the SWAT model. For this purpose, daily streamflow records from the Macaia gauge station were calibrated and validated under the current land-use. To assess land-use change impacts four land-use scenarios were developed following official environmental planning reports: S1 and S2 - conversion of forest into pasture of 20 and 50%, respectively; S3 and S4 - conversion of pasture into forest of 20 and 50%, respectively. The results have showed that, in general, the deforestation scenarios (S1 and S2) presented an increase in total runoff and peak flow and a decrease in the baseflow and evapotranspiration, whereas the reforestation scenarios (S3 and S4) have showed the opposite. The results showed that the land-use changes can generate positive impacts, such as reduction of surface runoff and increase in the baseflow, as well as negative ones, like the increase of soil erosion and flood risks.

RESUMO. A compreensão da variabilidade temporal da umidade do solo é importante para um manejo adequado de culturas florestais. O objetivo neste trabalho foi analisar o efeito causado pela densidade de plantio na umidade no perfil do solo em um povoamento clonal de Eucalyptus. A umidade do solo foi observada em intervalos de 15 dias em 25 pontos distribuídos no povoamento de eucalipto entre novembro de 2013 e outubro de 2015 buscando caracterizar a mesma em função de três espaçamentos: 3 x 2; 3 x 3 e 3 x 5 metros. Em cada ponto foram avaliadas as camadas de 0 - 10, 10 - 20, 20 - 30, 30 - 40 e 60 - 100 cm utilizando uma sonda Profile Probe PR2. A umidade do solo apresentou alta variabilidade espacial na camada de 0 - 10 cm, enquanto que a partir dos 30 cm até 100 cm de profundidade a umidade tendeu a ficar mais homogênea em toda a área. O período seco apresenta maior estabilidade temporal da umidade do solo quando comparado ao período chuvoso. O espaçamento 3 x 2 metros apresenta uma maior estabilidade temporal da umidade do solo quando comparado aos demais, enquanto o espaçamento 3 x 3 metros apresentou uma maior variabilidade temporal.

ABSTRACT. Soil moisture temporal variability is an important concept in understanding forest management. The objective of this study was to analyse the effect of planting density on soil profile moisture in a clonal Eucalyptus plantation. Soil moisture was observed every 15 days at 25 points distributed throughout the eucalyptus stand between November 2013 and October 2015 to characterize the moisture according to the following three types of spacings: 3 x 2, 3 x 3, and 3 x 5 m. At each point, the 0 - 10, 10 - 20, 20 - 30, 30 - 40, and 60 - 100 cm layers were evaluated using a Profile Probe PR2 model. Soil moisture showed high spatial variability in the 0 - 10 cm layer, whereas from 30 to 100 cm deep, the moisture tended to become more homogeneous throughout the area. The dry periods presented greater temporal soil moisture stability when compared to the rainy seasons. The 3 x 2 m spacing has greater temporal soil moisture stability when compared to the others, while the 3 x 3 m spacing presented greater temporal variability.

RESUMO Para o dimensionamento da estrutura hidráulicas do Brasil, é necessário a obtenção de dados de chuvas intensas de curta duração a partir de séries históricas de chuva diária. Esta situação recorrente pode ser atendida pela metodologia de desagregação de chuvas. Objetivou-se neste trabalho determinar constantes de desagregação de chuvas intensas para o Estado do Tocantins e proceder a comparação destas constantes com aquelas obtidas para outras regiões do Brasil. Para a modelagem da frequência das chuvas intensas de diferentes durações, foi empregada a distribuição de probabilidades Gumbel, tendo sido utilizadas séries pluviográficas de 10 localidades do estado do Tocantins. Os resultados mostraram que a distribuição de probabilidades Gumbel foi considerada adequada pelos testes Kolmogorov-Smirnov e Qui-quadrado. Observou-se que as constantes de desagregação apresentaram valores praticamente invariáveis para tempos de retorno entre 10 e 100 anos, tendo sido obtidas as seguintes constantes médias para o estado do Tocantins: h12h/h24h=0,93, h6h/h24h=0,86, h4h/h24h=0,82, h3h/h24h=0,78, h2h/h24h=0,72, h1h/h24h=0,61, h50min/h1h=0,92, h40min/h1h=0,83, h30min/h1h=0,68, h20min/h30min=0,76 e h10min/h30min=0,46. A comparação dos resultados com os de estudos desenvolvidos para outras regiões brasileiras mostrou variações de até -62,30%, permitindo se concluir que a utilização de constantes locais é importante no procedimento de desagregação de chuvas.

ABSTRACT In order to design effective Brazilian hydraulic structures, it is necessary to obtain data relating to short-duration intense rainfall from historical series of daily rainfall. This recurring need can be fulfilled by rainfall disaggregation methodology. The objective of this study was to determine the intense rainfall disaggregation constants for the State of Tocantins and to compare these constants with those obtained for other regions of Brazil. For the modeling of the frequency of intense rainfall of different durations of less than 24 hours, the Gumbel probability distribution (GPD) was employed using rainfall series from 10 locations in Tocantins state. The results showed that the GPD was adequate by the Kolmogorov-Smirnov and Chi-square tests. The disaggregation constants presented low variability values for different return periods (from 10 to 100 years); the values for Tocantins state are: h12h/h24h=0.93, h6h/h24h=0.86, h4h/h24h=0.82, h3h/h24h=0.78, h2h/h24h=0.72, h1h/h24h=0.61, h50min/h1h=0.92, h40min/h1h=0.83, h30min/h1h=0.68, h20min/h30min=0.76 e h10min/h30min=0.46. The comparison of the results with those from studies developed for other Brazilian regions showed variations of up to -62.30%, allowing us to conclude that the use of local constants is important in the process of rainfall disaggregation.

A recarga do aquífero livre é um dos processos mais importantes na hidrologia das águas subterrâneas, pois constitui reserva renovável deste manancial. Portanto, uma boa estimativa desta variável é fundamental para uma gestão adequada dos recursos hídricos, sobretudo frente à variabilidade climática inerente ao regime climático, assim como o avanço da poluição das águas superficiais e aumento da demanda por águas subterrâneas de boa qualidade. No presente trabalho, foi utilizado um modelo de balanço hídrico do solo para estimar a recarga potencial (Rp) do aquífero livre e os demais componentes do ciclo hidrológico. O modelo foi aplicado em duas bacias hidrográficas de cabeceira do Rio Grande, em Minas Gerais: a Bacia Hidrográfica do Ribeirão Lavrinha (BHRL) e a Bacia Hidrográfica do Ribeirão Marcela (BHRM). A BHRL apresentou maiores valores de Rp, com média anual de 895 mm, o que corresponde a 40% da precipitação média anual, enquanto que na BHRM estes valores foram de 393,3 mm e 25%, respectivamente. Os valores de escoamento de base confirmam essa maior recarga na BRHL, onde este componente da hidrógrafa correspondeu à 76% do total escoado, contra 40% para a BHRM. Com a modelagem empregada, foi possível captar essa diferença, porém seus resultados só foram satisfatórios para um dos anos na BHRL e para todo o período na BHRM, o que reforça a necessidade de utilizar este modelo para longos períodos de tempo.

The free aquifer recharge is a process of major importance in groundwater hydrology because it represents the renewable reserves of the water source. A good estimate of this variable is therefore critical to the proper management of water resources, particularly in light of climate variability inherent to the climate regime, as well as the increasing of surface water pollution and increased demand for good quality water groundwater. This study used a water balance model in soil to estimate the potential recharge (Rp) of the unconfined aquifer and the other components of the hydrological cycle. The model was applied in two watershed headwaters of the Rio Grande in Minas Gerais, Brazil: the Lavrinha River Basin (BHRL) and the Marcela River Basin (BHRM). The BHRL presents higher values of Rp, with an annual average of 895 mm, which corresponds to 40% of rainfall, while at the BHRM these values were 393.3 mm and 25%, respectively. The base runoff values confirm the greater recharge in BRHL, where this hydrograph component corresponded to 76% of the total discharge, compared with 40% for BHRM. The BALSEQ model allowed us to capture this difference, but the results were satisfactory for only one of the years in the BHRL and for the entire period for the BHRM, which reinforces the need to use this model for long time periods.

RESUMO Os modelos hidrológicos são ferramentas que descrevem processos e permitem antecipar as ocorrências e tomar decisões, dessa forma, apresentam-se como uma importante ferramenta de gestão dos recursos hídricos, principalmente no contexto de bacias hidrográficas de pequeno porte. Assim, objetivou-se com este trabalho abordar diferentes estratégias de calibração e teste do modelo SWAT na simulação hidrológica da bacia hidrográfica do Rio das Mortes, MG. Foram avaliados 6 postos fluviométricos, com área de drenagem entre 272 e 6.070 km², para fins de gestão dos recursos hídricos. A avaliação do desempenho do modelo foi realizada usando os coeficientes de Nash-Sutcliffe (CNS) e percentual de viés (PBIAS). Os resultados obtidos dos índices estatísticos aplicados na análise de desempenho do modelo, qualificam o modelo hidrológico SWAT como adequado na simulação da vazão para a bacia hidrográfica do Rio das Mortes. As estratégias adotadas atestaram a aplicabilidade do modelo como ferramenta de gestão e planejamento dos recursos hídricos para bacias menores e sem dados, possibilitando o uso racional da água na bacia.

ABSTRACT Hydrological models are tools which describe processes and allow predicting the results of making management decisions, and are an important water resource management tool, especially for small-sized watersheds. This work had as an objective to test different calibration strategies and apply the SWAT model for hydrological simulation of the Mortes River Basin, MG. We evaluated 6 fluviometric stations, with drainage area between 272 and 6070 km² for purposes of water resource management. The evaluation of the model performance was conducted by using Nash-Sutcliffe coefficients (CNS) and percent bias (PBIAS). The results obtained from the statistic indices applied in the analysis of the model performance qualified the SWAT hydrological model as adequate for streamflow simulation in the Mortes River Basin. The adopted strategies attest to the applicability of the model as a management tool for water resources planning for other small-sized watersheds without data, in order to plan for rational water use.

O objetivo deste trabalho foi determinar os valores de erosividade e gerar os mapas da distribuição espaço-temporal das chuvas no Estado do Tocantins. Analisaram-se séries históricas pluviométricas de 97 postos pluviométricos, compreendendo o período de 1985 a 2009. A erosividade foi estimada por meio de equações nas quais a variável independente foi a precipitação média mensal ou o coeficiente de chuva de Fournier (Rc). A geoestatística foi aplicada para o mapeamento da erosividade tanto na escala mensal quanto na anual. A erosividade anual apresentou valores entre 6.599 e 14.000 MJ mm ha-1 h-1, com auge em dezembro, quando atingiu valores de até 2.800 MJ mm ha-1 h-1 por mês. De maio a setembro, a erosividade apresentou valores inferiores ao crítico, tido como 500 MJ mm ha-1 h-1 por mês. Foram identificadas três regiões prioritárias para ações de planejamento visando a conservação do solo e da água: região centro-oeste do Estado, nas imediações do Parque Estadual do Cantão, com maior erosividade anual; região norte do Estado, especialmente no primeiro trimestre; e região sudeste do Estado, no quarto trimestre.

The objective of this work was to determine rainfall erosivity values and to generate its spatial-temporal distribution maps in the state of Tocantins, Brazil. Pluviometric historical series from 97 rain gauges were analyzed, covering the period from 1985 to 2009. Erosivity was estimated by equations in which the independent variable was the average monthly rainfall or the Fournier rainfall index (Rc). Geostatistics was applied for mapping erosivity both monthly and annually. Annual erosivity values varied between 6,599 and 14,000 MJ mm ha-1h-1, with peak in December when it reached values up to 2,800 MJ mm ha-1 h-1 per month. From May to September, erosivity values had lower than the critical one, considered 500 MJ mm ha-1 h-1per month. Three priority regions were identified for soil and water conservation planning activities: mid-west region of the state, in the neighborhood of Cantão State Park, with greatest erosivity; northern region of the state, especially during the first quarter of the year; and southern region of the state, in the fourth quarter.
