Abstract Constant growth in the concrete floor sector claims new techniques to improve concrete performance and avoid undesirable issues. In this way, materials used in concrete floors are essential, and it is critical to investigate them. Therefore, this study evaluated the influence of surface hardeners on the surface hardness determined by the rebound hammer test of concrete floors prepared with distinct water/cement ratios, curing ages, and cement types. The control parameters of the concrete’s production, including the compressive strength, flexural tensile strength, and bleeding tests were analyzed. In addition, data were assessed by multifactorial analysis of variance (ANOVA). Thus, hardeners increased the surface resistance of the composites, therefore reducing the chances of pathological manifestations occurring. Taken together, we demonstrated that hardeners improved the concrete surface prepared with all mixture proportions, but it was more significant when using the cementitious hardener and higher w/c content (0.6).

Abstract In this work, measuring capabilities of a Sagnac Interferometer-based Distributed Optical Fiber Sensor (DOFS) system are demonstrated by comparing its results to a conventional amplitude-based Distributed Acoustic Sensing (DAS) system. Through a set of three different experiments, it was demonstrated that both sensing systems can detect and locate dynamical deformation along the fiber, in addition to determining its frequency components. The coherent amplitude-based DAS presented a lower background noise. In contrast, even though the Sagnac interferometry-based system presented low-frequency noise in the measurements, it is less susceptible to harmonic distortion for higher amplitude deformations since its sensing principles rely on the measurement of the accumulated phase rather than the amplitude of the backscattered signal purely. Accordingly, the Sagnac interferometry-based system arises as a promising and rather accessible topology for a DOFS implementation.

Resumo A diminuição das áreas residenciais tem aumentado a demanda por plantas paisagísticas exóticas e cada vez mais compactas. Neste contexto, o objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar os efeitos do paclobutrazol (PBZ) e das épocas de aplicação de etileno na redução do crescimento e na antecipação da floração em abacaxizeiro ornamental cultivado em vaso. O delineamento experimental utilizado foi o de blocos ao acaso, em arranjo fatorial (2 x 5), com 4 repetições e 4 plantas por parcela. Os tratamentos primários foram a presença e a ausência de PBZ. Os tratamentos secundários foram cinco épocas de indução floral com etileno: 90; 120; 150; 180; 210 dias após o transplantio (DAT) das mudas, para os vasos. Foram avaliadas as variáveis: altura da planta; relação entre as alturas do vaso e da planta; diâmetro da roseta; comprimento da folha ‘D’ e índice de florescimento. Aos 255 DAT, apesar das plantas não responderem à indução floral com o etileno, apenas aquelas tratadas com PBZ apresentaram-se mais compactas e com características diferenciadas como menor porte e relação abaixo de 1/3 da altura do vaso em relação a da planta que favorecer sua comercialização, em vaso.

Abstract The expansion of residential areas has increased the demand for exotic and increasingly compact landscape plants. In this context, this work aimed to evaluate the effects of paclobutrazol (PBZ) and the timing of ethylene application on growth reduction and flowering anticipation in ornamental pineapples grown in pots. The randomized block design was used with factorial arrangement (2 x 5) and 4 replications and 4 plants per plot. The primary treatments are the presence and absence of PBZ. The secondary treatments were five times of floral induction with ethylene: 90; 120; 150; 180; 210 days after transplanting (DAT) the seedlings into the pots. It was evaluated the variables: height ratio between the heights of the pot and the plant; rosette diameter; leaves length ‘D’ and flowering index. At 255 DAT, although the plants did not respond to floral induction with ethylene, only those treated with PBZ were more compact and had different characteristics such as smaller size and a ratio below 1/3 of the height of the vase in relation to the plant that to favor its commercialization, in pot.

RESUMO: Objetivou-se mensurar o efeito da associação entre caracteres agronômicos relacionados à produtividade de grãos de canola cultivada em diferentes épocas de semeadura, através da análise de trilha. Assim como também objetivou-se obter um método para predizer o teor de óleo nos grãos, ajustando um modelo multivariado através da análise por espectroscopia na região do infravermelho próximo. O experimento foi conduzido em campo, utilizando-se o delineamento de blocos ao acaso, em parcelas subdivididas no tempo, sendo quatro parcelas (épocas de semeadura) e seis subparcelas (híbridos de canola), com quatro repetições. Em cada híbrido foram realizadas observações fenológicas e determinada a produtividade de grãos. Os dados foram submetidos à análise de variância em ambiente R pelo teste F, a cinco de probabilidade. O teor de óleo nos grãos foi determinado pelo método químico tradicional, e com base na assinatura espectral no infravermelho próximo de amostras dos grãos foi estabelecida regressão dos mínimos quadrados parciais (PLS-R) para estimar o teor de óleo nos grãos de canola. As épocas de semeadura influenciaram os componentes de produção e o teor de óleo dos grãos de todos híbridos. Os caracteres número de grãos em cinco plantas (0,6857) e altura (0,4943) apresentaram maiores estimativas de correlação positiva com a produtividade de grãos, assim como os maiores valores de efeito direto positivo sobre a produtividade, 0,2494 e 0,1595 respectivamente. Entretanto, o ciclo total (-0,7848), juntamente com dias em florescimento (-0,4520) apresentou correlação significativa negativa com a produtividade. A técnica NIR associada à PLS-R foi capaz de predizer o teor de óleo nos grãos, resultando em bons modelos preditivos (R2 de 0,86 e RMSE de 1,56 na validação externa) que podem ser usados com sucesso na análise da qualidade das amostras após colheita e nos programas de melhoramento genético.

ABSTRACT: This study measured the effect of the association between agronomic traits related to the yield of canola grains grown at different sowing dates through path analysis. Another objective was to obtain a method to predict the oil content in the grains, fitting a multivariate model through near-infrared (NIR) spectroscopy analysis. The experiment was conducted in the field using a randomized block design in plots subdivided by time, with four plots (sowing dates), six subplots (canola hybrids), and four replicates. In each hybrid, phenological observations were performed, and the grain yield was determined. The data were subjected to analysis of variance in the R environment using the F test at 5% probability. The oil content in the grains was determined by the traditional chemical method, and based on the NIR spectral signature of the grain samples, partial least squares regression (PLS-R) was established to estimate the oil content in the canola grains. The sowing dates influenced the production components and oil content of the grains of all hybrids. The trait number of grains in five plants (0.6857) and their height (0.4943) had greater estimates of positive correlations with grain yield, as well as higher values of positive direct effects on yield (0.2494 and 0.1595, respectively). The NIR technique combined with PLS-R was able to predict the oil content in the grains, resulting in good predictive models (R2 of 0.86 and root mean square error (RMSE) of 1.56 in external validation).

ABSTRACT Background: Egg collection traps have been studied to assist in the integrated control of arbovirus vectors. Many enhancements have been made over the years. Methods: This study evaluated the use of a hydrated superabsorbent polymer (SAP) in the egg collection of Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus in ovitraps. An experiment was conducted in the laboratory to determine the minimum concentration of the product to be used in traps in the field to prevent the development of larvae into adults. In the field, the use of polymers has been evaluated using a traditional model of ovitraps. The positive ovitrap index and mean number of eggs per trap indicator were calculated. Results: In the laboratory, the larvae did not successfully develop to the adult stage, even at the lowest SAP concentration. In the field, the results showed that ovitraps with SAP proved to be effective for egg collection from both species. It was possible to identify sites with the highest concentration of species and expose the ovitraps for a longer period without larval development. Conclusions: There is a need for studies on the adequacy of this technology for control programs. However, the results showed that ovitraps with hydrogel were potentiated to capture eggs, configuring themselves as another tool for vector control.

Resumo Este estudo teve como objetivo desenvolver um protocolo para a criopreservação do sêmen de Pseudoplatystoma corruscans. Para tal, machos maduros foram induzidos hormonalmente com uma dose única de extrato de hipófise de carpa (5 mg/kg de peso vivo). O sêmen foi coletado e avaliado. Sendo testados para compor os diluentes, dois crioprotetores: dimetil acetamida (DMA) e dimetil sulfóxido (Me2SO), em duas concentrações (8% e 10%), + 5,0% glicose + 10% gema de ovo. O sêmen foi diluído na proporção 1: 4 (sêmen: extensor), embalado em palhetas de 0,5 mL e congelado em container dryshipper em vapores de nitrogênio líquido. Após o descongelamento, foram avaliados os aspectos cinéticos espermáticos, a morfologia espermática e a integridade do DNA dos espermatozoides criopreservados. Os machos de P. corruscans produziram sêmen com motilidade espermática > 80%. Todos os tratamentos proporcionaram após o descongelamento sêmen com motilidade espermática total > 40%, sem diferença significativa (P < 0,05) entre eles, como também entre os demais parâmetros cinéticos espermáticos avaliados. Os tratamentos com DMA proporcionaram uma menor fragmentação do DNA dos gametas. Malformações espermáticas foram identificadas, tanto no sêmen fresco, como no criopreservado, sendo identificado um aumento discreto dessas malformações nos espermatozoides das amostras de sêmen descongeladas de P. corruscans.

Abstract This study aimed to develop a protocol for the cryopreservation of Pseudoplatystoma corruscans semen. For this, mature males were hormonally induced with a single dose of carp pituitary extract (5 mg/kg body weight). Semen was collected and evaluated. Two cryoprotectants were tested to compose the diluents: dimethyl acetamide (DMA) and dimethyl sulfoxide (Me2SO), in two concentrations (8% and 10%), + 5.0% glucose + 10% egg yolk. The semen was diluted in a 1: 4 ratio (semen: extender), packed in 0.5 mL straws and frozen in a dry shipper container in liquid nitrogen vapors. After thawing, sperm kinetics, sperm morphology and DNA integrity of cryopreserved sperm were evaluated. Pseudoplatystoma corruscans males produced semen with sperm motility > 80%. After thawing, all treatments provided semen with total sperm motility > 40%, with no significant difference (P < 0.05) between them, as well as between the other sperm kinetic parameters evaluated. The treatments with DMA provided a smaller fragmentation of the DNA of the gametes. Sperm malformations were identified in both fresh and cryopreserved semen, with a slight increase in these malformations being identified in sperm from thawed P. corruscans semen samples.

Abstract Objectives Evidence suggests that ketamine’s influence on brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) might be involved in its mechanism of rapid antidepressant action. We aimed to evaluate the differential impact of ketamine and esketamine on serum BDNF levels and its association with response patterns in treatment-resistant depression (TRD). Methods Participants (n = 53) are from a randomized, double-blind clinical trial comparing the efficacy of single-dose ketamine (0.5mg/kg, n = 27) and esketamine (0.25mg/kg, n = 26) in TRD. Depression severity was assessed before and 24 hours, 72 hours, and 7 days after the intervention, using the Montgomery-Åsberg Depression Rating Scale (MADRS). Blood samples were collected before infusion, 24 hours, and 7 days afterwards. Results There were no significant changes in BDNF levels at post-infusion evaluation points, and no difference in BDNF levels comparing ketamine and esketamine. Both drugs exhibited similar therapeutic effect. There was no association between BDNF levels and response to treatment or severity of depressive symptoms. Conclusion There was no significant treatment impact on BDNF serum levels – neither with ketamine nor esketamine – despite therapeutic response. These results suggest that ketamine or esketamine intervention for TRD has no impact on BDNF levels measured at 24 hours and 7 days after the infusion. RESUMEN El objetivo de este estudio fue traducir, crear un punto de corte y evaluar las propiedades de medición de la escala de autoimagen genital femenina (FGSIS - female genital self-image scale) para mujeres brasileñas. En este estudio se evaluaron, en línea, la validez de contenido, estructural y de construcción, la consistencia interna, la confiabilidad test-retest y los errores de medición. El punto de corte del FGSIS para clasificar la satisfacción con la autoimagen genital se realizó mediante el modelo de crédito parcial. En el estudio participaron 614 mujeres (28,92±9,80 años). El FGSIS mostró una estructura unifactorial y adecuadas propiedades de medición. FGSIS≥22 puntos clasifica a las mujeres como satisfechas con su autoimagen genital. Se concluye que el FGSIS es una medida sencilla, válida y confiable para evaluar la autoimagen genital de mujeres brasileñas.

O FGSIS apresentou estrutura unifatorial e propriedades de medidas adequadas. FGSIS≥22 pontos classifica as mulheres como satisfeitas com a autoimagem genital. Conclui-se que o FGSIS é uma medida simples, válida e confiável para avaliar a autoimagem genital em mulheres brasileiras.

ABSTRACT This study aimed to translate, create a cut-off point, and assess the measurement properties of the female genital self-image scale (FGSIS) in Brazilian women. Content, structural, and construct validity, internal consistency, test-retest reliability, and measurement errors were assessed in this online study. FGSIS cut-off point to classify satisfaction with genital self-image (GSI) was performed using the Partial Credit Model (PCM). In total, 614 women (28.92±9.80 years) participated in the study. The FGSIS had a one-factor structure and adequate measurement properties. FGSIS≥22 points classify women as satisfied with their GSI. Therefore, FGSIS is a simple, valid, and reliable measure to assess GSI in Brazilian women.

Abstract Background The Good Practices in Cardiology Program is an initiative created by the Brazilian Society of Cardiology (SBC) to improve the quality of care of cardiovascular disease patients in Brazilian public hospitals. Objectives To characterize patients admitted to a tertiary public hospital with diagnosis of acute coronary syndrome (ACS) or heart failure (HF) and to evaluate performance indicators in both ACS and HF arms, with a pre-established target of 85% adherence to the SBC recommendations. Methods This was a descriptive cross-sectional study through data collection of patients hospitalized between May 2016 and September 2019. Results A total of 1,036 patients were included, 273 in the HF arm and 763 in the ACS arm. Mean age was 59.8 ± 12.0 years in the ACS and 57.0 ± 14.1 years in the HF, with a predominance of male patients in both groups. More than half of patients had some primary education and more than 90% reported a monthly income of less than five minimum wages. In ACS, the diagnosis of ACS with ST segment elevation was predominant (66.3%), and 2.9% of patients died. In HF, the most common etiology was Chagas disease (25.8%), and 17.9% died. Analysis of the performance indicators revealed an adherence rate higher than 85% to nine of the 12 indicators. Conclusion Quality programs are essential for improvement of quality of care. Performance indicators pointed to a good adherence to the SBC guidelines, mainly in the ACS arm.

Resumo Fundamento O Programa Boas Práticas em Cardiologia é uma iniciativa da Sociedade Brasileira de Cardiologia (SBC) destinada à melhoria do cuidado cardiovascular nos hospitais públicos brasileiros. Objetivos Descrever características dos pacientes internados com Síndrome Coronariana Aguda (SCA) e Insuficiência Cardíaca (IC) e avaliar os indicadores de desempenho alcançados nos braços (SCA e IC) em um hospital público terciário, com uma meta pré-estabelecida de 85% de aderência às recomendações da SBC. Métodos Estudo do tipo transversal descritivo realizado por meio da coleta de dados de pacientes que estiveram internados entre maio de 2016 e setembro de 2019. Resultados Foram incluídos 1036 pacientes, 273 pacientes no braço IC e 763 no braço SCA. A média de idade foi de 59,8 ± 12,0 anos na SCA e 57,0 ± 14,1 anos na IC, com predomínio do sexo masculino em ambos os grupos. Mais da metade dos pacientes não tinham ensino fundamental completo e mais de 90% declararam renda mensal inferior a cinco salários-mínimos. Na SCA, predominou o diagnóstico de SCA com supradesnivelamento do segmento ST (66,3%) e 2,9% dos pacientes foram a óbito. Na IC, a etiologia mais comum foi a Doença de Chagas (25,8%) e 17,9% dos pacientes foram a óbito. Na avaliação dos indicadores de desempenho, nove dos 12 indicadores tiveram taxas de aderência acima de 85%. Conclusão Programas de qualidade são essenciais à melhoria do cuidado e os indicadores de desempenho do hospital apontam para uma boa adesão às diretrizes assistenciais da SBC, particularmente no braço da SCA.

ABSTRACT OBJECTIVE To estimate the prevalence of exposure to the SARS-CoV-2 virus among individuals living in restricted freedom. METHODS A seroprevalence survey was carried out with the population of the female penitentiary of the Centro de Progressão Penitenciária (CPP) in Butantan (municipality of São Paulo), between June 24 and August 20, 2020. During this period, according to the Secretariat of Penitentiary Administration (SAP), the positivity of rapid tests among inmates ranged from 65% to 78%. The evaluation method used in the study was the “One Step COVID-19” rapid test (chromatography), from the company Wondfo, also using the RT-PCR method in symptomatic participants to confirm the viral condition. The study population consisted of 879 female inmates and 170 employees of the institution. RESULTS The prevalence of total antibodies (IgG/IgM) against the SARS-CoV-2 virus in the total population of 1049 study participants was 6.1%; among the population of 879 inmates,a prevalence of 5.8% was observed, and among the institution’s employees, 7.5%. CONCLUSIONS The prevalence of covid-19 at the Butantan CPP was low, which is due to the implementation of simple prevention measures at the institution, such as the use of masks (with appropriate changes), emphasis on hygiene, hand washing and social distancing, in addition to other strategies, such as suspending inmates’ visits from relatives and friends and cutting back on elective medical appointments and outside work.

SUMMARY OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to determine the frequencies of Epstein-Barr virus, types 1 and 2 infection, and 30 bp del-latent membrane protein 1 viral polymorphism in gastric adenocarcinomas, as well as to investigate the association between Epstein-Barr virus infection and tumor location, type, and the patient's sex. METHODS: Samples were collected from 38 patients treated at a university hospital in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Epstein-Barr virus detection and genotyping were performed by polymerase chain reaction, followed by polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis and staining by the silver nitrate method. RESULTS: Overall, 68.4% of patients had Epstein-Barr virus-positive tumors. Of these, 65.4% presented infection by Epstein-Barr virus type 1, 23.1% by Epstein-Barr virus type 2, and 11.5% had coinfection with types 1 and 2. The 30 bp del-latent membrane protein 1 polymorphism was found in 42.3% of Epstein-Barr virus-positive tumors, 23.1% had the wild-type virus, and 23.1% had the wild-type and the polymorphism concomitantly. In 11.5% of Epstein-Barr virus-positive tumors, it was impossible to determine whether there was polymorphism or not. Tumor location in the antrum (22 of 38) and diffuse type (27 of 38) were predominant. There was no significant difference in Epstein-Barr virus infection or the 30 bp del-latent membrane protein 1 polymorphism between men and women. CONCLUSION: Epstein-Barr virus infection was found in 68.4% of tumors investigated in this study. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first article showing the coinfection of Epstein-Barr virus types 1 and 2 in gastric carcinoma in Brazil.

Abstract Healthcare workers present an increased risk of contagion for the SARS-CoV-2 virus due to their labor exposure. Here, we describe the clinical, laboratory, and immunological characteristics of healthcare workers, before vaccine application, exposed to SARS-CoV-2-infected patients. We collected sociodemographic, clinical, and laboratory information from 50 professionals who worked during the COVID-19 pandemic at the Clinical Hospital of the Northwest in Brazil. The results showed that most workers are women, over 50 years old, and worked as nursing technicians. Approximately 56% of workers were positive for a previous infection by RT-PCR and/or anti-SARS-CoV-2-immunoglobulin tests. Increased levels of hematocrit, neutrophils, NK lymphocytes, and fibrinogen, were found in positive healthcare workers, suggesting a light inflammatory status. The immunological findings showed an increase in IL-17 production and a Th2/Th17/Th22 profile followed by high serology for anti-SARS-CoV-2 IgM and IgG. Those data reveal the importance of studies with healthcare workers to investigate if the continuous exposition to the virus may result in chronic activation of the immune system and/or pulmonary inflammation in this target group.

ABSTRACT Although macroeconomic conditions are recognized as factors that influences country’s performance, little is known about how companies from different sectors absorb such impacts. Using the myopic marketing theory, the paper goal is to analyze the relationship between macroeconomic conditions and marketing investments in Brazilian companies. The sample consists of 183 Brazilian companies with quarterly financial data, obtained from Economatica, and macroeconomic data, obtained from IpeaData (2010 to 2020). First, the results indicate that GDP, interest rates and consumer confidence are positively related, and the exchange rate and unemployment showed a negative relationship with marketing investments. Second, the impact of these relationships differs across sectors. Third, the results demonstrate that the level of investments and expansion of marketing investments depend on macroeconomic conditions, indicating which contexts influence the discretionary treatment of the marketing budget.

RESUMO Embora as condições macroeconômicas sejam reconhecidas como fatores que influenciam o desempenho do País, pouco se sabe como as empresas, os diferentes setores e o investimento em marketing absorvem tais impactos. Utilizando a teoria da miopia em marketing, o objetivo deste artigo é analisar a relação entre as condições macroeconômicas e os investimentos em marketing de empresas brasileiras. A amostra é formada por 183 empresas brasileiras com dados financeiros trimestrais, obtidos na Economática, e macroeconômicos, obtidos no IpeaData, de 2010 a 2020. Primeiro, os resultados indicam que o PIB, os juros e a confiança do consumidor estão relacionados positivamente, e o câmbio e o desemprego apresentaram relação negativa com os investimentos em marketing. Segundo, os impactos dessas relações diferem entre os vários setores. Terceiro, as análises demonstram que o nível de investimentos e de ampliação dos investimentos em marketing dependem das condições macroeconômicas, indicando que contextos influenciam o tratamento discricionário do orçamento de marketing.

RESUMEN Aunque las condiciones macroeconómicas son reconocidas como factores que influyen en el desempeño del país, poco se sabe sobre cómo las empresas, los diferentes sectores y la inversión en marketing absorben dichos impactos. Utilizando la teoría de la miopía en marketing, el objetivo de este artículo es analizar la relación entre las condiciones macroeconómicas y las inversiones en marketing de las empresas brasileñas. La muestra consta de 183 empresas brasileñas con datos financieros trimestrales, obtenidos de Economática, y datos macroeconómicos, obtenidos de IpeaData, de 2010 a 2020. En primer lugar, los resultados indican que el PIB, las tasas de interés y la confianza del consumidor están relacionados positivamente y el tipo de cambio y el desempleo mostraron una relación negativa con las inversiones en marketing. En segundo, los impactos de estas relaciones difieren entre sectores. En tercer lugar, los análisis demuestran que el nivel de inversiones y la expansión de las inversiones en marketing dependen de las condiciones macroeconómicas, lo que indica que los contextos influyen en el tratamiento discrecional del presupuesto de marketing.

Resumen Este artículo busca rastrear las convergencias entre las subáreas/disciplinas de estudios de usuarios, mediación de la información y alfabetización informacional dirigidas a los contextos de vulnerabilidad social, con lo cual se busca presentar visiones más holísticas que contribuyan a las discusiones del área y para el desarrollo del protagonismo social, digital y cultural de grupos menos afortunados. En este sentido, los procedimientos metodológicos se establecieron a través de los fines como una investigación cualitativa, exploratoria y descriptiva, para discutir los supuestos teórico-conceptuales y los posibles diálogos entre los temas planteados. Asimismo, el estudio se clasifica como bibliográfico, ya que utilizó la lectura, análisis e interpretación de conceptos y teorías sobre los temas planteados, con el fin de presentar tales supuestos y diálogos en torno al sesgo de la perspectiva social de las ciencias de la información. Como resultado de la discusión, se entiende que los estudios de usuarios, la mediación de la información y la alfabetización informacional pueden considerarse acciones de interferencia, ya que se preocupan por la comprensión y formación de ciudadanos críticos y reflexivos ante las realidades socioinformativas. El conjunto de estas acciones consolida una postura investigadora tanto del que enseña como del aprendiz, ya que permite el empoderamiento y la emancipación en la maraña de información disponible.

Abstract This article seeks to trace the convergences between the sub-areas/disciplines of user studies, mediation of information and information literacy aimed at the contexts of social vulnerability, seeking to present more holistic views that contribute to the discussions of the area and for the development of social, digital and cultural protagonism of unfortunate groups. In this sense, the methodological procedures were established through the ends as a qualitative, exploratory and descriptive research, seeking to discuss the theoretical-conceptual assumptions and the possible dialogues among the themes brought. Also, the study is classified as bibliographic, since it used reading, analysis and interpretation of concepts and theories about the themes brought up, seeking to present such assumptions and dialogues around the bias of the social perspective of Information Science. As a result of the discussion, it is understood that user studies, mediation of information and information literacy can be considered interference actions, as they are concerned with the understanding and training of critical and reflective citizens in the face of socio-informational realities. The set of these actions consolidates an investigative posture of both the one who teaches as well the apprentice, as it allows empowerment and emancipation in the tangle of available information.
