The main objective of this article is to analyze the use of mobile phones in Brazil, under a psychosocial perspective, focusing on the role of young people and the family in disseminating such technology in the country. It presents and discusses previous investigations on the use of mobile phones by young people, describing its aims and consumption motivations. Young people are the Brazil's main consumer group of mobile phone in the country. The article provides an outlook of Brazilian youth and its participation in the country's Information Society. The repercussions of the use of such technology in family relationships are analyzed, including families with young people. The objective is to understand how parent and teenagers handle mobile phone's technology in their relationships in this phase of the life cycle.

Este artículo se propone analizar el panorama del teléfono móvil en Brasil, desde una perspectiva psicosocial, considerando hacia el rol de los jóvenes y de la familia en el proceso de difusión de dicha tecnología en el país. Se presentan y discuten investigaciones sobre la juventud y el uso del teléfono móvil, describiendo los objetivos y motivaciones para su consumo, considerando que éste es el mayor sector consumidor de móviles en el país. Se describe el panorama de la juventud brasileña en el contexto de la Sociedad de la Información en Brasil. Se analiza la repercusión del uso de esta tecnología en las relaciones familiares, en las familias con hijos jóvenes, con el fin de comprender cómo padres e hijos manejan en sus relaciones el teléfono móvil en esta fase del ciclo vital.

Este estudo apresenta uma análise do exercício e da divisão de papéis e funções desempenhados por progenitores na criação e educação de seus filhos em idade escolar. Utilizou-se uma amostra de 100 famílias de nível sócio-econômico médio residentes na cidade de Porto Alegre. Foi utilizado um questionário elaborado pelo grupo de pesquisa Dinâmica das Relações Familiares. Os resultados obtidos demostraram que, de forma geral, existe um bom nível de concordância entre as respostas de pais e mães (40%) no que se refere a divisão de tarefas na criação dos filhos. Além disso, a análise de Clusters permitiu identificar dois grupos quanto ao desempenho das principais tarefas realizadas na família em relação à educação dos filhos. O Grupo I (49%) caracterizou-se por ser a mãe a principal responsável, enquanto o Grupo II (51%) caracterizou-se por haver uma divisão igualitária das tarefas entre o pai e a mãe.

This study presents an analysis of the division of family roles and functions performed by fathers and mothers on bringing their school-aged children. A sample of 100 families of an "intermediate" social class level resident in the city of Porto Alegre with school-aged children was investigated by this research. The technique used was a questionnaire elaborated by the group Dinâmica das Relações Familiares. The results showed that, in general, there is a good level of agreement between fathers and mothers (40%), with respect to the tasks in up bringing children. In addition, the Cluster's analysis allowed to identify two groups of families according to their main tasks in terms of children education: The Group 1 (49%) is characterized by the mother as the main responsible for children's education, while the Group 2 (51%) is characterized by an equal division of tasks between mothers and fathers.
