RESUMEN El girasol (Helianthus annuus L.) es responsable del 13% de todo el aceite vegetal producido en el mundo. El desarrollo de estas plantas depende de los elementos minerales que tienen funciones esenciales y específicas en su metabolismo. En este sentido, el diagnóstico visual consiste en comparar la apariencia de una planta que recibió todos los nutrientes necesarios con una que sufrió la omisión de uno o más nutrientes. Por lo tanto, este estudio tuvo como objetivo evaluar los efectos de la ausencia de nitrógeno (N), fósforo (P), potasio (K), calcio (Ca), magnesio (Mg), azufre (S) y hierro (Fe) en el crecimiento de girasol, cultivar BRS-122, a fin de identificar y describir los síntomas visuales de la ausencia de tales nutrientes. El experimento fue conducido en invernadero y consistió en un diseño completamente al azar, con tres repeticiones y ocho tratamientos, utilizando una técnica de diagnóstico de sustracción. Los síntomas de las deficiencias fueron observados y evaluados a través de parámetros biométricos (altura de la planta, diámetro del tallo, número de hojas y área foliar), así como por aspectos visuales. La ausencia de N, P, K, Ca y Fe en la solución nutritiva afectaron severamente a las plantas de girasol, impidiendo su crecimiento vegetativo y consecuentemente su desarrollo. La interferencia negativa de la omisión del Mg en el crecimiento del girasol fue más lenta que la observada en N, P, K y Ca, con resultados más significativos a partir de los 40 días después de la siembra (DAS). La ausencia de los nutrientes dio claras evidencias de los distintos efectos que la omisión de cada elemento puede causar en los aspectos visuales de las plantas de girasol.

ABSTRACT Sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.) is responsible for 13% of all vegetable oil produced in the world. These plants’ development depends on the mineral elements that have essential and specific functions in their metabolism. In this sense, visual diagnosis consists of comparing the appearance of a plant that has received all the necessary nutrients with one that has suffered the omission of one or more nutrients. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the absence effects of nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), potassium (K), calcium (Ca), magnesium (Mg), sulfur (S) and iron (Fe) elements on the growth of sunflower, BRS-122 cultivar, in order to identify and describe the visual symptoms caused by the absence of such nutrients. The experiment was carried out in a greenhouse and consisted in a completely randomized design with three replications and eight treatments using a diagnostic subtraction technique. The symptoms of the deficiencies were observed and evaluated through biometric parameters (plant height, stem diameter, number of leaves, and leaf area) as well as by visual aspects. The absence of N, P, K, Ca and Fe in the nutrient solution severely affected the sunflower plants, preventing their vegetative growth and consequently their development. The negative interference of the Mg omission in sunflower growth was slower than the observed for nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, and calcium giving more significant results from 40 days after sowing (DAS). The absence of nutrients gave clear evidence of the distinct effects that the omission of each element can cause on the visual aspects of sunflower plants.

Resumo: No sistema trófico baseado em detritos, os colêmbolos, besouros escarabeíneos, moscas saprófagas e térmitas atuam no consumo e fragmentação da matéria orgânica e no controle das populações de microrganismos decompositores, exercendo forte influência nos fluxos de energia e nutrientes. Um inventário faunístico desses quatro grupos de hexápodes foi realizado na Serra de Santa Catarina (SSC), uma área de Caatinga arbóreo-arbustiva localizada no Estado da Paraiba, com intuito de caracterizar as taxocenoses desses táxons, salientando as suas peculiaridades ligadas ao ecossistema local. As coletas foram realizadas em maio/2014 e abril/2015, durante o período chuvoso na região. De acordo com o táxon, foram utilizados protocolos amostrais padronizados para inventários de biodiversidade, com métodos passivos e ativos de coleta. No geral, 114 espécies de hexápodes foram capturadas, sendo 26 de colêmbolos, 20 de besouros escarabeíneos, 30 de dípteros e 38 de térmitas, com suficiência amostral variando de 69,5 a 96.8% da total estimada. A riqueza de espécies por grupo está entre as maiores para uma única área de Caatinga, com alguns táxons sendo registrados pela primeira vez para o domínio. Especialmente para os colêmbolos e térmitas, várias morfoespécies tiveram seus status taxonômicos indeterminados, havendo elevada possibilidade de serem nova para a ciência. As estruturas e funcionalidades das taxocenoses de colêmbolos, besouros escarabeíneos, moscas saprófagas e térmitas registradas na SSC, sugerem que esse ecossistema é singular, dentro de um cenário generalizado de impacto antrópico presente na Caatinga, e possui um elevado potencial para a conservação da biodiversidade desse domínio no nordeste brasileiro.

Abstract: In detritus-based trophic systems, springtails, dung beetles, saprophagous calyptrate flies and termites consume and fragment organic matter and control populations of decomposer microorganisms, exerting a strong influence on energy and nutrient fluxes. A faunal inventory of these four groups of hexapods was performed in Serra de Santa Catarina (SSC), an area of arboreal-shrub caatinga located in the state of Paraíba, with the purpose of characterizing the assemblages of these taxa, and highlighting their unique links to the local ecosystem. Samplings were performed in May, 2014, and April, 2015, both during the rainy season. Standard sampling protocols for biodiversity inventory of the various taxa were used, including both active and passive sampling methods. In general, 114 species of hexapods were captured, with 26 species of springtails, 20 dung beetles, 30 saprophagous calyptrate flies and 38 termites, with sampling sufficiency varying from 69.5 to 96.8% of total estimated richness. Species richness of the groups are among the highest recorded for a single area of Caatinga, with some taxa being recorded for the first time for the domain. Several morphospecies had indeterminate taxonomic status, especially springtails and termites, and are quite likely new species to science. The structure of the assemblages of springtails, dung beetles, saprophagous calyptrate flies and termites recorded in SSC, suggest that this conserved area is unique within the highly impacted landscape of Caatinga, and has great potential for the conservation of biodiversity of this domain in the Northeast Region of Brazil.

O estresse hídrico é um dos mais importantes fatores ambientais que induz mudanças fisiológicas, como diminuição do potencial de água na célula, o fechamento dos estômatos e o desenvolvimento de processos oxidativos mediante a formação das espécies reativas de oxigênio (ROS). As enzimas antioxidantes superóxido dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT) e ascorbato peroxidase (APX) são eficientes eliminadores das ROS. O objetivo deste estudo foi examinar como a aplicação de bioestimulantes com substâncias húmicas e aminoácidos em sua composição afeta os níveis de SOD, CAT e APX nos tecidos das folhas de plantas de milho e de soja cultivadas com ou sem estresse hídrico. Amostras de um Argissolo foram colocadas em vasos (4,5 L) onde foram adicionadas as doses dos bioestimulantes. Foram retiradas amostras de folhas para análise da atividade da SOD, CAT e APX nas plantas. A SOD e APX aumentaram nas plantas de milho com a aplicação do bioestimulante 1. A atividade da CAT não aumentou nas plantas com a aplicação dos bioestimulantes. As composições dos bioestimulantes não possibilitaram aumento na resistência ao estresse hídrico em plantas de milho e de soja submetidas ao estresse hídrico

Water stress is one of the most important environmental factors inducing physiological changes in plants, such as decrease in the water potential of the cells, the stomatal closure; and the development of oxidative processes mediated by reactive oxygen species (ROS). Antioxidant enzymes superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), and ascorbate peroxidase (APX) are efficient scavengers of ROS. The aim of this research was to examine how the application of biostimulant based on humic substances and aminoacids may affect activity levels of SOD, CAT, and APX of maize and soybean plants under well-watered or drought stress conditions. Pots (4.5 L) were filled with a Typic Hapludult soil where the biostimulants doses were applied. It was taken leaf samples in order to analyze SOD, CAT, and APX activities in plants. SOD and APX activity levels were increased by application of biostimulant 1 in maize subjected to stress. Catalase activity was not enhanced in plants by using the biostimulants. The composition of the biostimulants was not able to enhance stress tolerance in maize and soybean plants subjected to water stress.

O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o potencial de discriminação de solos, mediante informações espectrais obtidas por sensor remoto em satélite. Os solos apresentaram variações na forma da curva espectral e intensidades de reflectância. Os Nitossolos apresentaram baixa intensidade de reflectância e os Neossolos, bastante alta. Os Latossolos Vermelhos, com diferentes texturas, apresentaram aumento na intensidade de reflectância, na seqüência dos mais argilosos para os mais arenosos. Solos eutróficos apresentaram maiores intensidades de reflectância que os álicos. A análise discriminante indicou um erro geral de 0,028%. As amostras confundidas geralmente ocorreram entre os solos com características semelhantes. A metodologia empregada na coleta de dados espectrais de satélites mostrou-se eficiente, tornando possível discriminar os solos da região estudada e, assim, agilizar a confecção de mapas de solos.

The objective of this work was to evaluate soil characterization and discrimination by spectral information obtained from satellite sensor. Soils presented variation on the spectral signature, and on their spectral intensity. Typic Argiudoll (Alfisols) presented low spectral intensity, and Typic Quartzpisament presented a high spectral intensity. Typic Haplorthox (Oxisols) presented increments in its reflectance according to the texture. Eutrophic soils presented greater reflectance intensities than Alic soils. The discriminate analyses indicate a 0.028% error. Mistake samples occurred due to similar characteristics of soils. The methodology used to collect spectral data from satellite sensor showed to be efficient, and made possible soil discrimination, as well as faster soil survey of the presented region.
