Resumo: O objetivo deste trabalho foi determinar a influência de oito porta-enxertos no rendimento, na qualidade do fruto e na sobrevivência de laranjeiras (Citrus sinensis) 'Pêra CNPMF D6' cultivadas, em regime de sequeiro, em solo coeso do Nordeste brasileiro. Em 2014-2018, foram avaliados, no delineamento de blocos ao acaso, o rendimento, os frutos e a sobrevivência de árvores plantadas em 1997. O rendimento foi avaliado a partir da produção anual de frutos, da eficiência produtiva e do índice de alternância produtiva. A sobrevivência das árvores foi considerada a percentagem de plantas que permaneceram vivas até 2018. A qualidade dos frutos foi avaliada por meio de atributos físico-químicos. 'Cravo' confirmou seu bom desempenho produtivo. Apesar do menor número de árvores, o porta-enxerto limoeiro rugoso 'Mazoe' induziu a maior produtividade de frutos. O híbrido 'Cravo' x 'Cleópatra' e o limoeiro 'Volkameriano' favoreceram a maior sobrevivência das árvores, enquanto o citrandarin 'Indio' e o limoeiro 'Cravo' resultaram em níveis intermediários. Os citrandarins 'San Diego' e 'Riverside' induziram, respectivamente, árvores menores, com alta eficiência de produção e maior índice de alternância produtiva, respectivamente. Frutos com menos suco e massa foram induzidos, respectivamente, pelo citrandarin 'Riverside' e o limoeiro 'Volkameriano'. Conclui-se que o porta-enxerto 'Mazoe' induz maior rendimento de frutos e 'Cravo' x 'Cleópatra' e 'Volkameriano' maior sobrevivência. Além disso, todos os porta-enxertos, exceto 'Riverside' e 'Volkameriano', induzem frutos que atendem os requerimentos mínimos de qualidade.

Abstract: The objective of this work was to determine the influence of eight rootstocks on the yield, fruit quality, and survival of 'Pêra CNPMF D6' sweet orange (Citrus sinensis) trees grown under rainfed conditions in a cohesive soil of the Brazilian Northeast. In 2014-2018, the yield, fruits, and survival of trees planted in 1997 were evaluated in a randomized complete block design. Yield was assessed using annual fruit production, yield efficiency, and the alternate bearing index. Tree survival was considered the percentage of plants that remained alive until 2018. Fruit quality was evaluated by physicochemical attributes. 'Cravo' confirmed its good yield performance. Despite the lower number of trees, the 'Mazoe' rough lemon rootstock induced the highest fruit yield. The 'Cravo' x 'Cleópatra' hybrid and 'Volkameriano' lemon favored the highest trees survival, whereas 'Indio' citrandarin and 'Cravo' lime resulted in intermediate levels. The 'San Diego' and 'Riverside' citrandarins induced shorter tree with a high yield efficiency and a higher alternate bearing index, respectively. Fruits with less juice and mass were induced, respectively, by 'Riverside' citrandarin and 'Volkameriano' lemon. It can be concluded that the 'Mazoe' rootstock induces a higher fruit yield and 'Cravo' x 'Cleópatra' and 'Volkameriano', a greater survival. In addition, all rootstocks, except 'Riverside' and 'Volkameriano', induce fruit that meet the minimum quality requirements.

ABSTRACT Genipap (Genipa americana L.) is a medicinal tree native to South America and the Amazon regions, where it is used as a popular traditional medicine. It is also highly consumed by people in the form of jams, juices, preserves, and wines. The aim of this study was to evaluate the toxicity, persistence, and the repellence properties of leaf methanolic extracts of genipap (LME) and its major iridoids (genipin and geniposide), against the key coconut pest mite Aceria guerreronis Keifer. The concentration-mortality bioassays revealed a strong acaricidal activity of LME against the coconut mite (LC50 = 0.60 mg.ml-1; and LC90 = 16.69 mg.ml-1). In addition, standard concentrations (0.6 mg.ml-1) of either genipin or geniposide killed 50 % and 62 % of the A. guerreronis, respectively, after 24 hours of exposure, highlighting the role of these iridoids in the acaricidal activity of LME. The persistence bioassays of LME revealed toxicity towards A. guerreronis for up to 36 hours after spraying. Furthermore, LC50 and LC90 of LME repelled the coconut mite after 1, 24, and 48 hours of exposure. Therefore, LME can be considered an alternative to assist in the integrated control of the coconut mite in coconut plantations.

RESUMEN La planta de jagua (Genipa americana L.) es un árbol medicinal nativo de América del Sur y de la región Amazónica, donde se utiliza en la medicina popular y sus frutos son consumidos en forma de dulces, jugos, mermeladas y vinos. El objetivo de este trabajo fue evaluar la toxicidad, persistencia y repelencia del extracto metanólico de las hojas de Genipa americana (LME) y sus principales iridoides (genipina y geniposideo), contra la plaga clave de la palma de coco Aceria guerreronis Keifer. Los bioensayos de concentración-mortalidad revelaron una fuerte actividad acaricida de LME de G. americana al ácaro de la necrosis del cocotero (CL50 = 0,60 mg.ml-1 e CL90 = 16,69 mg.ml-1). Además, las concentraciones padrones (0,6 mg/ml-1) de extracto de genipina y geniposideo mataron 48 % y 52 %, respectivamente, de A. guerreronis después de 24 horas de exposición y se destacó la función de estos iridoides en la bioactividad de LME. Los bioensayos de persistencia de LME de G. americana revelaron toxicidad para A. guerreronis hasta 36 horas después de la pulverización. Además, las CL50 y CL90 del LME de G. americana repelieron el ácaro de la necrosis del cocotero después de 1, 24 y 48 horas de exposición. Así, el LME de esta planta puede ser considerado como una alternativa para auxiliar en el control integrado del ácaro de la necrosis A. gerreronis en plantaciones de coco.

ABSTRACT In this work, the efficiency of Amblyseius largoensis (Muma), Typhlodromus (Anthoseius) ornatus Denmark e Muma and Iphiseiodes zuluagai Denmark ( Muma for controlling Raoiella indica Hirst (Acari: Tenuipalpidae) was assessed by comparing their functional and numerical responses to increasing densities of R. indica eggs. The three predatory mites exhibited a type II functional response, indicating that they can assist in the control of R. indica, especially at low to moderate densities of this pest. However, A. largoensis consumed the highest number of preys with the shortest handling time and showed a superior reproductive potential when fed upon R. indica eggs. A. largoensis proved to be the most efficient of the three predatory mites.

RESUMEN En este trabajo se evaluó la eficiencia de Amblyseius largoensis (Muma), Typhlodromus (Anthoseius) ornatus Denmark ( Muma e Iphiseiodes zuluagai Denmark & Muma para controlar Raoiella indica Hirst (Acari: Tenuipalpidae) mediante la comparación de sus respuestas numéricas y funcionales con densidades crecientes de huevos de R. indica. Los tres ácaros depredadores mostraron una respuesta de tipo II, lo que indica que pueden ayudar en el control de R. indica, especialmente en densidades de bajas a moderadas de esta plaga. Sin embargo, A. largoensis consumió el mayor número de presas en menor tiempo, así como presentó un potencial reproductivo superior cuando se alimentó de huevos de R. indica. A. largoensis demostró ser el más eficiente de los tres ácaros depredadores.

Resumo: O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o efeito de nove porta-enxertos sobre os parâmetros vegetativos, produtivos e qualitativos da laranjeira-doce 'Jaffa' (Citrus sinensis) e sobre a sua suscetibilidade a três ácaros-praga (Eutetranychus banksi, Tetranychus mexicanus e Phyllocoptruta oleivora). Os seguintes parâmetros foram avaliados: crescimento vegetativo, produtividade, características fisioquímicas dos frutos e densidade de ácaros-praga. A tangerineira 'Sunki Tropical' conferiu elevada produtividade à laranjeira 'Jaffa', enquanto o tangeleiro 'Orlando' e o limoeiro 'Rugoso Vermelho' induziram frutos maiores, com baixos valores Brix e menos ácidos à laranjeira 'Jaffa'. Os citrandarins 'Indio' e 'Riverside' induziram frutos mais ácidos e de tamanhos menores, assim como baixa produtividade acumulada e menor copa. Adicionalmente, o limoeiro 'Cravo Santa Cruz', o citrandarin 'San Diego' e os híbridos HTR-051 e LVK x LCR-010 conferiram menor produção acumulada à laranjeira 'Jaffa'. Os porta-enxertos não influenciaram os níveis populacionais dos ácaros avaliados. A tangerineira 'Sunki Tropical', o limoeiro 'Cravo Santa Cruz' e o limoeiro 'Rugoso Vermelho' se destacam como excelentes opções de porta-enxertos para a laranjeira 'Jaffa' na região Nordeste do Brasil.

Abstract: The objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of nine rootstocks on 'Jaffa' sweet orange (Citrus sinensis) for its vegetative, productive, and qualitative traits, and for its susceptibility to three pest mites (Eutetranychus banksi, Tetranychus mexicanus and Phyllocoptruta oleivora). The following parameters were evaluated: vegetative growth, yield, physiochemical characteristics of fruit, and density of pest mites. 'Sunki Tropical' mandarin conferred high cumulative yields whereas 'Orlando' tangelo and 'Rugoso Vermelho' lemon imparted bigger fruit with low brix, and less acidity to 'Jaffa'. Indio and 'Riverside' citrandarins induced more acid fruit of smaller sizes, as well as low-cumulated yields and canopy volumes. Also, the 'Cravo Santa Cruz' lime, 'San Diego' citrandarin, and the hybrids HTR-051 and LVK x LCR-010 conferred lower-cumulated yields to 'Jaffa'. The rootstocks did not influence the population levels of the evaluated mites. 'Sunki Tropical' mandarin, 'Cravo Santa Cruz' lime and 'Rugoso Vermelho' lemon stand up as excellent rootstock options for 'Jaffa' sweet orange in the Northeastern Brazil.

ABSTRACT The jambu, Spilanthes acmella (Asteraceae), has bioactivity on pests, but little is known of the effect on phytophagous mites and its compatibility with predatory mites. The red palm mite, Raoiella indica, is a severe pest of several crops, coconut trees among them. The predatory mite Amblyseius largoensis (Acari:Phytoseiidae) is found in association with R. indica in several countries, and it can assist in the control of this pest in the field. Associated with biological control, products that are compatible with natural enemies could help control this pest. Therefore, the acaricidal activity of S. amella on R. indica and its selectivity for the predator A. largoensis was evaluated using concentration-mortality bioassays of its ethanolic extract (EE). Additionally, the repellent effect and the population growth rate were evaluated in the LC50 and LC80. The EE of S. acmella was highly toxic to R. indica, but it did not kill A. largoensis. The LC50 and LC80 of the EE from S. acmella, estimated for R. indica, were repellent to the pest untill 48 hours after application, while, at its highest concentration, it repelled.

RESUMEN El jambu, Spilanthes acmella (Asteraceae), posee bioactividad contra plagas; sin embargo, es poco conocido sobre el efecto a ácaros fitófagos y su compatibilidad con ácaros depredadores. El ácaro rojo del cocotero Raoiella indica es una plaga severa de diversos cultivos agrícolas, dentro de los cuales está el cocotero. El ácaro depredador Amblyseius largoensis (Acari: Phytoseiidae) se encuentra en asociación con R. indica en diversos países y puede auxiliar en el control de esta plaga en campo. Asociado al control biológico, los productos que sean compatibles con los enemigos naturales pueden ayudar en el control de esta plaga. Se evaluó la actividad acaricida por medio de bioensayos de concentración-mortalidad del extracto etanólico (EE) de S. acmella contra R. indica y su selectividad al depredador A. largoensis. Además, se evaluaron el efecto repelente y la tasa de crecimiento poblacional en la CL50 y la CL80. La CL50 y la CL80 de EE de S. acmella, estimada para R. indica, fueron repelentes a la plaga hasta 48 horas después de la aplicación y repelió al depredador solamente hasta una hora en la mayor concentración. Esas concentraciones del EE de S. acmella redujeron drásticamente la tasa de crecimiento de R. indica y no afectaron el aumento poblacional del depredador. Se concluye que el EE de S. acmella podría ser utilizado en el manejo de R. indica por ser tóxico, repelente y reducir el crecimiento poblacional de esta plaga, además de ser selectivo al ácaro depredador A. largoensis.

RESUMO: A resinose, causada pelo fungo Thielaviopsis paradoxa, é uma das doenças mais importantes do coqueiro Cocos nucifera em todo o mundo, e algumas espécies de insetos têm sido encontradas em associação com coqueiros infectados por T. paradoxa. O presente trabalho investigou se os besouros escolitíneos (Coleoptera: Curculionidae: Scolytinae) poderiam disseminar a resinose a partir de coqueiros infectados. Escolitíneos adultos coletados de coqueiros com sintomas da resinose foram inoculados em meio de cultura BDA. Os resultados mostraram que não houve germinação do fungo T. paradoxa da cutícula ou do trato digestivo dos insetos. Assim, não encontramos evidências de que besouros escolitíneos carreguem esporos viáveis de T. paradoxa que pudessem infectar coqueiros e disseminar a doença resinose.

ABSTRACT: Stem bleeding disease, caused by the fungus Thielaviopsis paradoxa is one of the most important diseases of coconut palm Cocos nucifera worldwide and some insect species have been found in association with T. paradoxa infected coconut palms. The present research investigated whether coconut palm-infesting bark beetles (Coleoptera: Curculionidae: Scolytinae) could disseminate stem bleeding disease. Adult bark beetles collected from coconut palms presenting stem bleeding symptoms were inoculated in PDA culture medium. Results showed no germination of the fungus T. paradoxa from either cuticle or digestive tract of bark beetles. Thus, we found no evidence that bark beetles carry viable spores of T. paradoxa that could infect healthy coconut palms and disseminate stem bleeding disease.

RESUMO: O presente estudo teve por objetivo avaliar a distribuição espaço-temporal de ácaros fitófagos e predadores no dossel de plantas de pinhão-manso. Parâmetros de riqueza, diversidade e abundância de ácaros foram determinados. Os resultados deste estudo demonstram que maiores valores de riqueza, diversidade e abundância de ácaros foram observados principalmente no estrato apical e que os níveis populacionais desses artrópodes em plantas de pinhão-manso são mais expressivos na estação chuvosa. Os ácaros fitófagos concentram-se distribuídos principalmente no estrato apical, sendo Brevipalpus sp. a espécie mais abundante. Ácaros predadores da família Phytoseiidae foram aqueles de maior riqueza e diversidade, sendo o ácaro predador Amblydromalus zannoui o mais abundante. Os resultados obtidos neste trabalho sugerem uma dinâmica sazonal tanto para populações de ácaros predadores quanto para ácaros fitófagos em pinhão-manso.

ABSTRACT: The aim of the present study was to evaluate the spatial-temporal distribution of phytophagous and predatory mites in the canopy of Jatropha curcas L. Mite richness, diversity, and abundance were determined, and higher values were observed primarily in the top stratum. Mite population in J. curcas was higher during the rainy season. Phytophagous mites were mostly concentrated in the top stratum, and Brevipalpus sp. was the most abundant. Predatory mites from the family Phytoseiidae presented the highest richness and diversity, and Amblydromalus zannoui was the most abundant species. The present results indicate seasonal population dynamics for both predatory and phytophagous mites on J. curcas.

Resumo O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o desempenho agronômico da tangerineira 'Piemonte' enxertada em 11 porta-enxertos cultivados nas condições edafoclimáticas dos Tabuleiros Costeiros, no Estado de Sergipe. Os seguintes parâmetros agronômicos combinados foram avaliados: crescimento vegetativo, abundância de ácaros fitófagos, produção, tolerância à seca e qualidade físico-química de frutos. A tangerineira 'Piemonte' apresentou o melhor desempenho produtivo quando enxertada nos limoeiros 'Cravo Santa Cruz' e 'Rugoso Vermelho', na tangerineira 'Sunki Tropical' e no citrandarin 'Riverside', e se tornou mais tolerante ao deficit hídrico quando enxertada no limoeiro 'Cravo Santa Cruz' e no híbrido LVK x LCR-010. Os porta-enxertos não influenciaram o nível populacional de pragas. A tangerineira 'Piemonte' enxertada nos limoeiros 'Cravo Santa Cruz' e 'Rugoso Vermelho' produziu frutos de qualidade inferior. Os citrandarins 'Indio' e 'San Diego', o híbrido HTR-051 e o citrumelo 'Swingle' apresentam potencial para plantios adensados. A tangerineira 'Sunki Tropical' e o citrandarin 'Riverside' são uma boa opção para a diversificação de porta-enxertos em pomares no agroecossistema dos Tabuleiros Costeiros.

Abstract The objective of this work was to evaluate the agronomical performance of 'Piemonte' mandarin grafted on 11 rootstocks grown under the edaphoclimatic conditions of the Coastal Tablelands, in the state of Sergipe, Brazil. The following combined agronomical parameters were evaluated: vegetative growth, abundance of phytophagous mites, plant yield, drought tolerance, and physicochemical quality of fruit. 'Piemonte' mandarin had the best productive performance when grafted on 'Santa Cruz Rangpur' lime, 'Red Rough' lemon, 'Sunki Tropical' mandarin, and 'Riverside' citrandarin, and it was more tolerant to drought when grafted on 'Santa Cruz Rangpur' lime and on the LVK x LCR-010 hybrid. Rootstocks did not affect pest population levels. 'Piemonte' mandarin grafted on 'Santa Cruz Rangpur' lime and 'Red Rough' lemon produced lower-quality fruit. The 'Indio' and 'San Diego' citrandarins, the HTR-051 hybrid, and 'Swingle' citrumelo have potential for high-density plantings. 'Sunki Tropical' mandarin and 'Riverside' citrandarin are a good option for the diversification of rootstocks in orchards in the agroecosystem of the Brazilian Coastal Tablelands.

ABSTRACT Solitary wasps and bees (Hymenoptera) play a key role in ecosystem and agroecosystem functioning. Crops may benefit from biological pest control and pollination carried out by predatory solitary wasps and solitary bees, respectively. Here, we aimed at evaluating the abundance and faunistic compositions of solitary wasps and bees in respect to land-use (pasture, alley cropping, young fallow and old fallow) over an entire year using trap nests in the Brazilian northeastern state of Maranhão. Land-use did not influence the abundance of solitary wasps and bees, however, levels of dominance, abundance and frequency of the species Pachodynerus guadulpensis Saussure, Isodontia sp. 1, Isodontia sp. 2, Trypoxylon nitidum Smith and Megachile cfr. framea Schrottky varied with land-use. The abundance of wasps and bees varied over the period of the year with populations peeking in January (bees), and June and July (wasps). Relative humidity explained most of the variation for the abundance of wasps while temperature explained higher portions of the variance for the abundance of bees. There was an interaction between period of the year and land-use for the abundance of wasps (but not for bees). We concluded that total population abundance of solitary wasps and bees were not affected by the land-use however, levels of dominance, abundance and frequency of some species of these hymenopterans changed according to land-use. Also, relative humidity and temperature were important environmental variables explaining the abundances of wasps and bees.

Os citros são atacados por ácaros-praga como o ácaro-da-falsa-ferrugem Phyllocoptruta oleivora (Ashmead) (Acari: Eriophyidae) e Tetranychus mexicanus (McGregor) (Acari: Tetranychidae). No entanto, pouco é conhecido sobre o efeito de porta-enxertos sobre populações de pragas. O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a influência de porta-enxertos nas densidades populacionais de ácaros-praga nas laranjeiras 'Pera CNPMF D-6' e 'Valência Tuxpan' ao longo do tempo. Adultos das espécies de ácaro citadas foram quantificados mensalmente, durante 19 meses, de junho de 2011 a fevereiro de 2013. Os porta-enxertos influenciaram as populações dos ácaros-praga, uma vez que menores densidades de P. oleivora foram encontradas em laranjeira 'Pera CNPMF D-6', enxertada no híbrido TSKC × CTTR - 002 e no citrumelo 'Swingle', em comparação com o que se observou em relação aos porta-enxertos LVK × LCR - 010, limoeiro 'Rugoso vermelho' e limoeiro 'Cravo Santa Cruz'. Similarmente, menores densidades de T. mexicanus ocorreram em laranjeira 'Valência Tuxpan' enxertada no híbrido HTR-051, em comparação com o que se deu em relação aos porta-enxertos citrandarin 'Indio', tangerineira 'Sunki Tropical' e LVK × LCR - 010. Concluiu-se que as densidades dos ácaros P. oleivora e T. mexicanus nas laranjeiras 'Pera CNPMF D-6' e 'Valencia Tuxpan' foram afetadas pelo porta-enxerto em determinados períodos do ano, sugerindo influência de alguns genótipos sobre essas pragas.

Citrus are attacked by pest mites such as the citrus rust mite Phyllocoptruta oleivora (Ashmead) (Acari: Eriophyidae) and the spider mite Tetranychus mexicanus (McGregor) (Acari: Tetranychidae). However, little is known on citrus rootstocks influencing pest mites. We aimed to evaluate the influence of rootstocks on population densities of pest mites on the sweet oranges 'Pera CNPMF D-6' and 'Valencia Tuxpan' throughout time. Adults of both mite species were monthly counted during 19 months from June 2011 to February 2013. Rootstocks influenced the populations of pest mites, since lower densities of P. oleivora were found on 'Pera CNPMF D-6' sweet orange grafted on the hybrid TSKC × CTTR - 002 and on 'Swingle' citrumelo in comparison with the hybrid LVK × LCR - 010, 'Red' rough lime and 'Santa Cruz' rangpur lime as rootstocks. Similarly, lower densities of T. mexicanus were found on 'Valencia Tuxpan' sweet orange grafted on the hybrid HTR-051 in comparison to 'Indio' citrandarin, 'Sunki Tropical' mandarin and LVK × LCR - 010 as rootstocks. We concluded that densities of the mites P. oleivora and T. mexicanus on the sweet oranges 'Pera CNPMF D-6' and 'Valencia Tuxpan' were affected in some periods of the year by some rootstocks, suggesting influence of some genotypes on these pests.

El objetivo de este estudio fue evaluar la compatibilidad de plaguicidas alternativos y sintéticos con el depredador generalista de ácaros Amblyseius largoensis, enemigo natural de plagas de ácaros en cultivos de cítricos en Sao Luís, Maranhao State, Brazil. Los plaguicidas evaluados fueron la abamectina, el aceite mineral, el mancozeb, el piridaben, y los aceites de neem (Azadiractha indica) y de algodón (Gossypiumspp.). La compatibilidad de los plaguicidas con A. largoensisse evaluó mediante la estimación de los efectos adversos en la mortalidad y fecundidad y también por la interferencia con la tasa de crecimiento. En general, los Resultados totales fueron complementarios a los efectos adversos de la tasa de crecimiento. El mancozeb, el aceite mineral y el aceite de neem se clasificaron como plaguicidas ligeramente dañinos, el aceite de algodón y la abamectina como moderadamente nocivos y, finalmente, el piridaben se consideró significativamente perjudicial. La tasa de crecimiento de las hembras de A. largoensisexpuestas a mancozeb, aceite mineral, aceite de neem y aceite de algodón fue positivo, lo que indica crecimiento de la población del depredador. Los Resultados en este estudio mostraron que el aceite de neem, el aceite mineral y el mancozeb fueron los plaguicidas más compatibles y que menos efectos dañinos provocaron en el depredador generalista de ácaros A. largoensis.

The aim of this study was to evalúate the compatibility of synthetic and alternative pesticides to an important natural enemy associated with pest mites in citrus orchards, in Sao Luís Maranhao State, Brazil: the generalist predatory mite Amblyseius largoensis. The pesticides tested were abamectin, mineral oil, mancozeb, pyridaben, neem oil (Azadiractha indica) and crude cottonseed oil (Gossypiumspp.). Compatibility of pesticides to A. largoensiswas assessed as to adverse effects on mortality and fertility as well as to interference with growth rate. Overall, the results of adverse effects and growth rate were corroborative. Mancozeb, mineral oil and neem oil were classified as slightly harmful while the cotton oil and abamectin were classified as moderately harmful and pyridaben was considered harmful. The growth rate of A. largoensisfemales exposed to mancozeb, mineral oil, neem oil and cotton oil was positive indicating population growth. We conclude that neem oil, mineral oil and mancozeb are compatible with A. largoensisas they were less harmful to this predator.

O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a ocorrência de distúrbios biológicos e fisiológicos, tanto em nível de campo como em pós-colheita, de maçãs 'Gala', 'Fuji' e 'Catarina', produzidas em pomares conduzidos em quatro sistemas de produção: convencional, transição convencional-orgânico, integrado e orgânico. As maçãs foram avaliadas quanto à presença de danos ocasionados por distúrbios biológicos e fisiológicos no pomar e em pós-colheita. Os maiores danos foram atribuídos às pragas, principalmente à Anastrepha fraterculus em sistema orgânico e à Grapholita molesta em sistema de transição convencional-orgânico. As maçãs produzidas em sistema orgânico tiveram maiores danos em pós-colheita ocasionados por distúrbios fisiológicos do que as dos demais sistemas de produção. Nas frutas produzidas em sistema orgânico, os danos, em sua maioria foram com degenerescência e depressão lenticelar para a cv. Gala, e bitter pit para as cvs. Fuji e Catarina. A incidência de podridões pós-colheita não foi influenciada pelo sistema de produção.

The study aimed to evaluate the incidence of biological and physiological disorders in the field and postharvested apples cvs. Gala, Fuji and Catarina grown in four production systems: conventional, organic transition, integrated and organic. Apples were evaluated for damages related to biological and physiological disorders in the orchard and after harvest. The greatest damages were attributed to pests, especially Anastrepha fraterculus in the organic system and Grapholita molesta in the organic transition. Apples produced in organic orchards had higher damage levels caused by postharvest physiological disorders than those grown in other production systems. For apples becoming from organic orchards most of the damage was due to lenticels breakdown and degeneration ('Gala'), and bitter pit ('Fuji' and 'Catarina'). The incidence of postharvest rot was not influenced by apple production system.

O objetivo deste trabalho foi identificar ácaros na cultura de pinhão-manso e em espécies de plantas espontâneas associadas. Para isso, foram avaliadas a riqueza e a abundância de ácaros em plantas de pinhão-manso e em 14 espécies de plantas espontâneas associadas. As amostragens foram realizadas por meio de coletas mensais de folhas de plantas de pinhão-manso e de plantas espontâneas, nas entrelinhas do cultivo. Foram encontradas quatro espécies de ácaros predadores - Amblyseius tamatavensis, Paraphytoseius multidentatus, Typhlodromalus aripo e Typhlodromalus clavicus -, com potencial para uso no controle biológico de ácaros-praga na cultura do pinhão-manso, e duas importantes espécies de ácaros fitófagos - Brevipalpus phoenicis e Tarsonemus confusus - desconhecidas como praga da cultura. Entre as plantas espontâneas avaliadas, quatro espécies - Hyptis suaveolens, Peltaea riedelii, Urochloa mutica e Andropogon gayanus - abrigam grande riqueza e abundância de ácaros predadores, enquanto oito destacaram-se pela diversidade de ácaros fitófagos.

The objective of this work was to identify mites in physic nut culture, and in associated spontaneous weed species. For this, mite richness and abundance on physic nut plants and on 14 species of associated spontaneous weeds were evaluated. Samplings were done with monthy collections of leaves from physic nut plants and from weeds, between planting lines. Four species of predatory mites - Amblyseius tamatavensis, Paraphytoseius multidentatus, Typhlodromalus aripo and Typhlodromalus clavicus -, with potential for biological control of pest mites on physic nut culture, and two species of phytophagous mites - Brevipalpus phoenicis and Tarsonemus confusus -, not yet known as pests of the culture were found. Among the evaluated spontaneous weeds, four species - Hyptis suaveolens, Peltaea riedelii, Urochloa mutica and Andropogon gayanus - harbor great richness and abundance of predatory mites, whereas eight harbored a high diversity of phytophagous mites.

The present work evaluated the influence of forest distance on predatory solitary wasps' abundance and richness and its relation to the natural biological control of the fall armyworm (Spodoptera frugiperda Smith - Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) in maize. The study consisted of two parallel lines of six experimental maize plots located at an increasing distance from a forest edge. Four trap-nests were placed in the vertices of each plot of the first line to evaluate the abundance and species richness of predatory solitary wasps. The larvae of the fall armyworm were sampled weekly by inspecting ten randomly chosen plants per plot. Predatory solitary wasp abundance (but not species richness) decreased whilst the fall armyworm abundance increased with the distance from the forest. Moreover, population densities of predatory solitary wasps and the fall armyworm were negatively correlated. Results suggested that the crop plantations located near forest fragments might benefit from the reduced pest problems as a result of increased natural biological control.

O ácaro Brevipalpus phoenicis (Geijskes, 1939) (Acari: Tenuipalpidae) é importante em cafeeiro (Coffea spp.), por ser o vetor do vírus da mancha-anular, responsável por queda de folhas e má qualidade da bebida do café, e o ácaro-vermelho, Oligonychus ilicis (McGregor, 1917) (Acari: Tetranychidae), por reduzir a área foliar de fotossíntese. Alguns ácaros da família Phytoseiidae são eficientes predadores associados aos ácaros-praga. Com este trabalho teve-se como objetivo estudar o controle dos ácaros-praga e o impacto do abamectin e emamectin sobre fitoseídeos. Em laboratório, foram estudados os efeitos ovicida, tópico, residual, tópico mais residual aos ácaros-praga e a seletividade fisiológica aos fitoseídeos. Em semicampo, foi estudada a persistência dos produtos no controle dos ácaros-praga. O efeito ovicida foi avaliado em ovos no início e fim de incubação; os efeitos residual, tópico e tópico mais residual foram avaliados pela mortalidade de larvas, ninfas e adultos após 48 horas da aplicação, enquanto a persistência foi avaliada pela mortalidade até 30 dias após a pulverização. A seletividade aos ácaros fitoseídeos foi avaliada pelo efeito total às fêmeas adultas, em teste residual em superfície de vidro. Pelos resultados, verificou-se que abamectin e emamectin não possuem ação ovicida, para ambas as espécies de ácaros-praga estudadas. Considerando o efeito tópico mais residual, o abamectin e emamectin foram altamente eficientes no controle de larvas, ninfas e adultos de B. phoenicis; apenas abamectin foi eficiente no controle de O. ilicis. Abamectin foi levemente a moderadamente nocivo e emamectin mostrou-se inócuo a levemente nocivo aos fitoseídeos. Devido à eficiência de controle e seletividade a fitoseídeos, conclui-se que abamectin e emamectin podem ser utilizados em programas de manejo integrado do ácaro B. phoenicis, e abamectin para o manejo de B. phoenicis e O. ilicis em cafeeiro.

The mite Brevipalpus phoenicis (Geijskes, 1939) (Acari: Tenuipalpidae) is important for coffee plants (Coffea spp.) for being the vector of the coffee ringspot virus, which is responsible for leaf fall and bad quality of the coffee beverage. The red spider mite, Oligonychus ilicis (McGregor, 1917) (Acari: Tetranychidae) is also important, for reducing the areas of photosynthesis in leaves. Some mites of the family Phytoseiidae are efficient predators associated to the pest-mites. This work had as objective to study the control of the pest-mites and the impact of the abamectin and emamectin on phytoseiids. Studies were carried out in laboratory to investigate the ovicidal, topical, residual, topical plus residual effects of the products on the pest-mites and the physiologic selectivity to the phytoseiids. The persistence of the products in the control of pest-mite was studied in semi-field conditions. The ovicidal effect was evaluated in eggs in the beginning and end of incubation; the residual, topical and topical plus residual effects on larvae, nymphs and adults were assessed through mortality evaluation 48 h after spraying, while the persistence was evaluated until 30 days after spraying. The phytoseiids selectivity was evaluated by the total effect in adult females, in residual test in glass surface. The results showed that abamectin and emamectin do not possess ovicidal action, in both pest-mite species studied. Considering the topical plus residual effect, the abamectin and emamectin was highly efficient in the control of larvae, nymphs and adults of the B. phoenicis; only the abamectin was efficient for O. ilicis control. Abamectin was slightly and moderately noxious and emamectin was shown to be innocuous and slightly noxious to the phytoseiids. Due to efficiency presented in the pest-mites control, and selectivity to the phytoseiids, it is concluded that abamectin and emamectin can be used in integrated pest management programs of B. phoenicis, and abamectin for the management of B. phoenicis and O. ilicis in coffee trees.
