Resumo O manejo intensivo de povoamentos florestais pode aumentar a produção de biomassa, bem como aumentar a remoção de nutrientes do local. Assim, o objetivo deste estudo foi simular diferentes intensidades de colheita e calcular a eficiência de utilização de nutrientes para Eucalyptus urograndis em diferentes tipos de solo. O estudo foi realizado em um plantio do híbrido E. urograndis de sete anos de idade, no município de Telêmaco Borba, Paraná, Brasil. O local de estudo incluiu duas subáreas com solo arenoso e solo argiloso (Cambissolo Háplico e Latossolo Vermelho, respectivamente). Com os dados de estoque de biomassa e nutrientes foi simulada a remoção de nutrientes em cinco cenários de colheita diferentes. A eficiência de utilização de nutrientes foi obtida a partir da relação entre a quantidade de biomassa e os nutrientes de cada componente da árvore. A colheita da árvore inteira resultou na retirada de aproximadamente 61% dos nutrientes do local em solo arenoso, enquanto em solo argiloso, 57% dos nutrientes foram removidos. Com a colheita apenas da madeira do fuste comercial, apenas 22% dos nutrientes foram retirados do solo arenoso e 21% do solo argiloso. A madeira do caule foi o componente que apresentou os maiores valores da eficiência de utilização de nutrientes para todos os nutrientes analisados. Para alcançar a sustentabilidade nutricional dos povoamentos de E. urograndis, o melhor sistema de colheita envolve a remoção apenas da madeira do tronco comercial. Para a produção de madeira, os solos arenosos apresentam maior eficiência biológica de cálcio e magnésio quando comparados aos solos argilosos.

Abstract Intensive management of forest stands can increase biomass production, as well as increase the removal of nutrients from the site. This study therefore sought to simulate different harvest intensities and to calculate the nutrient-use efficiency of Eucalyptus urograndis in different types of soil. The study was carried out in a plantation of seven-year-old hybrid E. urograndis in the city of Telêmaco Borba, Paraná, Brazil. The study site included two sub areas with sandy soil and clayey soil (Cambisols Inceptisol and Ferralsols Oxisols, respectively). Using biomass and nutrients stock data, nutrient removal was simulated under five different harvest scenarios. Nutrient-use efficiency was obtained from the relation between the amount of biomass and nutrients of each tree component. Harvesting the whole tree resulted in the removal of approximately 61% of the nutrients from the site in sandy soil, while in clayey soil 57% of the nutrients were removed. With harvesting of only the commercial stemwood, only 22% of the nutrients were removed from the sandy soil, and 21% from the clayey soil. Stemwood was the component that had the highest nutrient-use efficiency values for all the analyzed nutrients. In conclusion, to achieve nutritional sustainability of E. urograndis stands, the best harvesting system involves the removal of only commercial stemwood. For the production of stemwood, sandy soils have a greater biological efficiency of calcium and magnesium when compared to clayey soil.

Resumo Sabendo que a deposição atmosférica é a primeira fonte de entrada de nutrientes nos ecossistemas florestais e que a partição de precipitação serve como fonte nutricional principalmente quando há interação com o dossel florestal, o objetivo do presente estudo foi quantificar o aporte de nutrientes na precipitação incidente, precipitação interna e escoamento pelo tronco em um povoamento de Eucalyptus urophylla com exclusão parcial (E) e sem exclusão parcial (WE) da precipitação interna. O experimento está localizado no nordeste do estado do Paraná-Brasil, no município de Telêmaco Borba. O sistema de exclusão parcial de precipitação (E) é formado por um sistema de calhas que conduzem 30% da precipitação interna para fora do experimento. O aporte de nutrientes pela precipitação incidente foi de 55.7 kg ha-1 ano-1, enquanto que a soma dos mesmos na precipitação interna e escoamento pelo tronco foram de 39.8 kg ha-1 ano-1 no tratamento com exclusão (E) e de 64.1 kg ha-1 ano-1 no tratamento sem exclusão (WE). A interação com o dossel florestal enriquece com nutrientes especialmente com os elementos potássio e cloro devido a lixiviação dos tecidos vegetais. A redução do regime hídrico no tratamento com exclusão parcial da precipitação (E) reduziu de forma representativa a entrada de nutrientes. Embora o escoamento pelo tronco represente em média apenas 2.6% do volume de água, ele é responsável por 6.7% da quantidade de nutrientes em relação à precipitação. Portanto, o mesmo não pode ser negligenciado no balanço da ciclagem de nutrientes. Com uma rotação de 7 anos a aplicação de importantes quantidades de fertilizantes podem ser evitados considerando as entradas de 449 e 277 kg ha-1 ano-1.

Abstract Given that atmospheric deposition is the first source of nutrient input into forest ecosystems, and that the precipitation partition serves as a nutritional source mainly when there is an interaction with the forest canopy, the objective of the present study was to quantify the nutrients input into rainfall, throughfall and stemflow in Eucalyptus urophylla stands with partial exclusion (E) and without exclusion (WE) of throughfall. The experiment was conducted in the northeast of the state of Paraná-Brazil, in the municipality of Telêmaco Borba. The partial precipitation exclusion system (E) is formed by a system of gutters that conduct 30% of throughfall out of the experiment. The nutrient input in rainfall was 55.7 kg ha-1 yr-1, while the sum of throughfall and stemflow was 64.1 kg ha-1 yr-1 in treatment (WE) and 39.8 kg ha-1 yr-1 in treatment (E). Interaction with the canopy of the trees enriched the rainfall with nutrients, mainly the elements potassium and chlorine, due to leaching of the vegetal tissues. The reduction of the water treatment system in partial exclusion of precipitation (E) reduced representative nutrient input. Although stemflow represents on average only 2.6% of the water volume, it is responsible for 6.7% of the amount of nutrients in relation to precipitation. Therefore, stemflow cannot be neglected in the balance of nutrient cycling. With a rotation of 7 years, the application of significant amounts of fertilizers can be avoided, considering the inputs of 449 and 277 kg ha-1year-1.

Resumo O comportamento hidrológico em microbacias reflorestadas é diferenciado de outras formas de cobertura. A variação pode estar relacionada tanto à aspectos intrínsecos à espécie, densidade de plantio, maturidade fisiológica, sistema de manejo e às condições climáticas. Periodicamente anomalias climáticas como o caso do La Ninã são constatadas e essas, são responsáveis pela alteração do regime pluviométrico e consequentemente geram déficits hídricos na região sul do Brasil. O déficit hídrico é responsável pela redução do crescimento e da produtividade para o gênero Eucalyptus, além de provocar alterações no comportamento hidrológico em bacias hidrográficas reflorestadas. Por conta disso, o objetivo do estudo foi comparar a partição da precipitação pluviométrica em precipitação interna, escoamento pelo tronco e interceptação pela copa das árvores de eucalipto submetidas ou não à exclusão parcial da precipitação. Foram instalados 3 coletores de precipitação em área aberta, e no interior do povoamento, para cada tratamento de exclusão de chuva, 9 coletores de precipitação interna e 9 coletores de escoamento pelo tronco foram instalados. Ao longo de 12 meses, quinzenalmente, o volume dos coletores era aferido. A precipitação quantificada foi de 1627 mm ao longo de um ano. No tratamento sem exclusão, 84.8, 2.9 e 12.3% referiram-se à precipitação interna, escoamento pelo tronco e interceptação pela copa respectivamente, enquanto que no tratamento com exclusão da precipitação 80.6, 2.3 e 17.2% referiram-se à precipitação interna, escoamento pelo tronco e interceptação. Os ajustes da regressão para precipitação interna e escoamento pelo tronco mostraram bons coeficientes R2.

Abstract Hydrological behavior in reforested watersheds is different from that under other forms of cover. The variation may be related to aspects intrinsic to species, planting density, physiological maturity, management system and climatic conditions. Periodically, climatic anomalies such as the case of La Ninã are observed, and these are responsible for the alteration of the rainfall regime and consequently generate water deficits in the southern region of Brazil. Water deficit is responsible for reducing growth and productivity for the Eucalyptus genus, in addition to causing changes in hydrological behavior in reforested watersheds. Accordingly, this study compared the partition of rainfall in throughfall, stemflow and canopy interception of eucalyptus trees submitted or not to partial exclusion of precipitation. In the open field, 3 rainfall collectors were installed, and in the stand, for each rain exclusion treatment, 9 throughfall collectors and 9 stemflow collectors were installed. Every two weeks for 12 months, the volume of the collectors was measured. The quantified precipitation was 1627 mm over a year. In the treatment without exclusion, 84.8, 2.9 and 12.3% referred to throughfall, stemflow and canopy interception, respectively, while in the treatment excluding rainfall 80.6, 2.3 and 17.2% referred to throughfall, stemflow and canopy interception. The regression adjustments for throughfall and stemflow showed satisfactory R2 coefficients.

ABSTRACT The objective of this work was to evaluate the penetration resistance (PR) of a red-yellow latosol submitted to two subsoiling depths for implanting a forest plantation. The subsoiling was evaluated at 40 cm (S-40) and 50 cm (S-50) of depth by determining the soil moisture and soil density, while soil PR was evaluated before and after subsoiling at five points transversely to the subsoiling line (furrow) up to a depth of 60 cm using an electronic penetrometer. The soil density in both treatments was not altered by soil management. Before soil preparation, the soil presented PR values above the critical limit in the 0 cm to 30 cm layers, and after subsoiling a reduction in those values was verified at depth. It can be concluded that the 50 cm (S-50) subsoiling depth is the most suitable for soil preparation in a forest stand implantation.

RESUMO: O cultivo de Pinus sem uso de fertilização é uma prática comum no sul do Brasil e pode levar ao declínio da disponibilidade de fósforo (P) no solo. O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar as modificações nas frações de fósforo em Cambissolo submetido a sucessivos cultivos de Pinus taeda L. sem fertilização. Foram avaliadas duas florestas, com 16 anos de cultivo de Pinus (1o cultivo) e 49 anos (3o cultivo), onde amostras de solo foram coletadas nas camadas de 0-10, 10-20, 20-40, 40-60 e 60-80cm, em seis trincheiras por floresta. Nas amostras de solo foram determinados os teores de P em formas orgânicas (Po) e inorgânicas (Pi) usando esquema de fracionamento químico sequencial. As frações inorgânicas lábeis de P não sofreram alterações com os diferentes tempos de cultivo, no entanto houve declínio das frações orgânicas lábeis do primeiro para o terceiro cultivo, passando de 70,6 para 39,8mg dm-3 na camada de 0-10cm, indicando que essas formas atuam no tamponamento do Pi lábil. O P orgânico moderadamente lábil atuou como um dreno de P, aumentando seu percentual em relação ao total, de 34,7 para 56,3%, do primeiro para o terceiro cultivo. O cultivo do solo por 49 anos com Pinus taeda provoca a diminuição do teor de fósforo orgânico lábil, indicando que para este tipo de uso do solo essa forma de fósforo deveria ser considerada para diagnóstico da disponibilidade de fósforo e necessidade de fertilização.

ABSTRACT: Pinus cultivation without fertilization is a common practice in southern Brazil, which can induce a decline in the availability of phosphorus (P) in the soil. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the changes in phosphorus fractions in a Humic Cambisol subjected to continuous Pinus taeda L. cultivation without fertilization. Two forest stands were evaluated, after 16 years of Pinus cultivation (1st crop) and 49 years (3rd crop), when soil samples were collected (layers 0-10, 10-20, 20-40, 40-60, and 60-80cm) from six trenches per forest. In soil samples, the P contained in organic (Po) and inorganic (Pi) forms was determined by sequential chemical fractionation. Labile inorganic P fractions remained unchanged after the different cultivation periods. However, the labile organic fractions declined from the first to the third cycle (from 70.6 to 39.8mg dm-3 in the 0-10cm layer), indicating that these forms influence the buffering capacity of labile Pi. The moderately labile organic P acted as a P drain, increasing its percentage of the total, from 34.7 to 56.3%, from the first to the third crop. Soil cultivation for 49 years with Pinus taeda resulted in a reduction of the organic P content, indicating that for this soil use, this P form should be used to diagnose P availability and fertilization requirements.

Abstract: James Wei, a professor at the Department of Chemical Engineering-MIT, used the paradigm concept in 1988, introduced by T. Kuhn, to characterize the steps of evolution of the Chemical Engineering. Wei identified three periods: the pre-paradigmatic, a first paradigm which he relates to the publication of the text ‘Principles of Chemical Engineering’, and a second paradigm associated with the text: ‘Transport Phenomena’, by Bird, Stewart and Lightfoot, in 1960. Wei’s paradigms are reductionistic as well as limited and need to be expanded and updated. In this work three steps are identified: the pre-paradigmatic, the paradigm of Unit operations, and the paradigm of the Science of Chemical Engineering. Reference is made to the new frontiers of Chemical Engineering and to the requirement to include new academic disciplines and new techniques of teaching and learning.

Los paradigmas de Wei son reduccionistas y limitados y deben ser ampliados y actualizados. En el presente trabajo se identifican 3 etapas: el preparadigmático, el paradigma de las operaciones unitarias, y el paradigma de la ciencia de la ingeniería química. Se hace referencia a las nuevas fronteras de la ingeniería química y a la necesidad de incluir nuevas disciplinas académicas y nuevas técnicas de enseñanza-aprendizaje.

RESUMO Objetivou-se, com este trabalho, realizar uma avaliação da profundidade de trabalho na qualidade da operação de subsolagem para implantação de povoamentos florestais. O experimento foi realizado em uma empresa florestal localizada no Município de Telêmaco Borba, Estado do Paraná, Brasil, em um Latossolo de textura média. O equipamento utilizado foi um trator de esteiras com potência de 170 HP e peso operacional de 19.000 kg, equipado com lâmina tipo V-shear, tracionando um subsolador de arrasto mono-haste com peso de 5.390 kg, com a operação de subsolagem nas profundidades de 40 e 50 cm. A qualidade da subsolagem foi determinada com base nos aspectos de profundidade, formato e distância entre as linhas de sulcos, com uso de gráficos de controle. Os resultados indicaram a falta de controle no processo relacionado com a profundidade e formato das linhas de preparo do solo na operação de subsolagem em ambos os tratamentos. O preparo do solo realizado a 50 cm de profundidade apresentou os melhores padrões de qualidade nas condições estudadas.

ABSTRACT The objective of this research was to evaluate the effect of work depth in the quality the subsoiling operation for forest planting. The study was conducted in a forest company located in Telemaco Borba, Parana State, Brazil, in an Oxisol of medium texture. The equipment used was a track tractor with power of 170 HP and operational weight of 19,000 kg, equipped with V-shear blade, pulling a drag subsoiler mono haste with weigh of 5,390 kg, working at subsoiling operation in the depths of 40 and 50 cm. The quality of the subsoiling was determined based on the aspects of depth, format and distance between the lines to be planted, with the use of control graphics. The results showed the lack of control in process related to the depth and format of the lines of soil preparation in subsoiling operation in both the treatments. The soil preparation carried out at 50 cm depth showed the best quality standards at the studied conditions.

RESUMO Os impactos das práticas de manejo intensivo sobre a sustentabilidade da produção florestal dependem da manutenção da fertilidade do solo. A contribuição dos resíduos florestais e da ciclagem de nutrientes nesse processo é crucial. Avaliou-se uma plantação de 16 anos de idade de Pinus taeda em um Cambissolo Húmico Alumínico léptico de textura argilosa, relevo ondulado, no meio-sul catarinense. Dez árvores foram amostradas em cinco classes de diâmetro, de acordo com a distribuição de diâmetro à altura do peito. A biomassa de acículas, galhos, casca, madeira e raízes foi medida para cada árvore. Além da biomassa vegetal, amostraram-se serapilheira acumulada e solo nas camadas de 0,00-0,20; 0,20-0,40; 0,40-0,60; 0,60-1,00; 1,00-1,40; 1,40-1,80, e 1,80-1,90 m. A concentração de nutrientes, o balanço de nutrientes e a caracterização mineralógica foram determinados a partir das amostras de solo coletadas. Três cenários de intensidade de colheita foram simulados, considerando a remoção de madeira (A), madeira e casca (B) e madeira, casca e copa (C). A soma de todos os componentes da biomassa foi de 313 Mg ha-1. O estoque de nutrientes na árvore foi N>Ca>K>S>Mg>P. A mineralogia do Cambissolo Húmico Alumínico léptico evidenciou a predominância de areia de quartzo e pequenos traços de vermiculita na fração silte. A argila é a principal fração que contribui para o intemperismo do solo em razão da transformação de ilita-vermiculita liberando K. O esgotamento dos nutrientes do solo a partir da biomassa foi: P>S>N>K>Mg>Ca. Fósforo e S permaneceram como os nutrientes mais limitantes no cenário A, por causa dos seus baixos estoques disponíveis no solo. No cenário B, o número de rotações florestais foi limitado para N, K e S. O cenário C resultou na maior diminuição de produtividade, e limitado pelo P, apresentando apenas duas potenciais rotações de cultivo para esse nutriente. Dessa forma, evidenciou-se, pelo número potencial de rotações de cultivo, que entre o cenário A, menos exaustivo, e cenário C, mais exaustivo, uma diferença de até 30 anos na capacidade de suporte do solo. Assim, o efeito de diferentes intensidades de colheita sobre a disponibilidade de nutrientes pode comprometer a sustentabilidade do P. taeda em longo prazo.

ABSTRACT The impact of intensive management practices on the sustainability of forest production depends on maintenance of soil fertility. The contribution of forest residues and nutrient cycling in this process is critical. A 16-year-old stand of Pinus taeda in a Cambissolo Húmico Alumínico léptico (Humic Endo-lithic Dystrudept) in the south of Brazil was studied. A total of 10 trees were sampled distributed in five diameter classes according to diameter at breast height. The biomass of the needles, twigs, bark, wood, and roots was measured for each tree. In addition to plant biomass, accumulated plant litter was sampled, and soil samples were taken at three increments based on sampling depth: 0.00-0.20, 0.20-0.40, 0.40-0.60, 0.60-1.00, 1.00-1.40, 1.40-1.80, and 1.80-1.90 m. The quantity and concentration of nutrients, as well as mineralogical characteristics, were determined for each soil sample. Three scenarios of harvesting intensities were simulated: wood removal (A), wood and bark removal (B), and wood + bark + canopy removal (C). The sum of all biomass components was 313 Mg ha-1.The stocks of nutrients in the trees decreased in the order N>Ca>K>S>Mg>P. The mineralogy of the Cambissolo Húmico Alumínico léptico showed the predominance of quartz sand and small traces of vermiculite in the silt fraction. Clay is the main fraction that contributes to soil weathering, due to the transformation of illite-vermiculite, releasing K. The depletion of nutrients from the soil biomass was in the order: P>S>N>K>Mg>Ca. Phosphorus and S were the most limiting in scenario A due to their low stock in the soil. In scenario B, the number of forest rotations was limited by N, K, and S. Scenario C showed the greatest reduction in productivity, allowing only two rotations before P limitation. It is therefore apparent that there may be a difference of up to 30 years in the capacity of the soil to support a scenario such as A, with a low nutrient removal, compared to scenario C, with a high nutrient removal. Hence, the effect of different harvesting intensities on nutrient availability may jeopardize the sustainability of P. taeda in the short-term.

RESUMO As espécies florestais diferem na capacidade de absorção, translocação, acúmulo e uso dos nutrientes. Estas diferenças ocorrem entre espécies, procedências, progênies, e mesmo entre clones de uma determinada espécie e influenciam o crescimento das mesmas. O objetivo deste experimento foi avaliar a produção de massa seca e a eficiência nutricional em relação ao fósforo de mudas de clone de Eucalyptus dunnii e de Eucalyptus benthamii cultivadas em vasos. O experimento foi conduzido por três meses, em casa de vegetação, num esquema fatorial (2 x 5), compreendendo as duas espécies e cinco doses de P (0, 50, 100, 200 e 500 mg dm-3). Foram utilizadas amostras de um Cambissolo Húmico coletadas na camada 0-20 cm em reflorestamento de pinus, que apresentava 4,6 mg dm-3 de P. Aos 90 dias após o plantio, procedeu-se a coleta da biomassa da parte aérea e radicular das plantas, separadamente, para determinação da massa seca e do teor de P. A partir desses valores, determinou-se a eficiência de absorção (EAP), a eficiência de utilização de P (EUP) e a percentagem de recuperação do P aplicado pela biomassa. Os clones de Eucalyptus dunnii e Eucalyptus benthamii apresentaram aumentos quadráticos na produção de massa seca total e na eficiência de utilização de P com o aumento das doses de P. O Eucalyptus dunnii foi mais eficiente na produção de massa seca total assim como na utilização e recuperação de P em relação ao Eucalyptus benthamii, em todos os níveis de fornecimento de P.

ABSTRACT Forest species differ in the absorption capacity, translocation, accumulation and use of nutrients. These differences occur between species, provenances, progenies, and even clones of specific species with influence in their growth. This study has as objective to evaluate the effect of phosphorus addition to the soil on the initial growth and nutritional efficiency of seedlings of Eucalyptus dunnii and Eucalyptus benthamii clones cultivated in pots. The experiment was conducted in a greenhouse for three months. Treatments consisted in a factorial design (2 x 5) with two species and five rates of P (0, 50, 100, 200 e 400 mg dm-3). The soil is a Humic Haplumbrept collected from a 0-20 cm layer under a pine plantation, which had 4.6 mg dm-3 P. Ninety days after planting, shoots and roots biomass were harvested, dried at 65 oC, weighed and analyzed for P. Subsequently, the absorption of P, the use efficiency of P and the percentage of P applied recovered by the biomass were calculated. The clones of Eucalyptus dunnii and Eucalyptus benthamii showed a quadratic increase in total dry mass yield and in the use of P as the rate of P applied increased. Eucalyptus dunnii was more efficient in terms of dry matter yield and use and recovery of P in relation to Eucalyptus benthamii, in all levels of added P.

RESUMO Em áreas florestais, o uso contínuo do solo altera seus atributos físicos e geralmente deteriora sua qualidade, em decorrência do tráfego de máquinas nas operações florestais, com redução da produtividade das culturas. Diante disso, avaliou-se a relação entre a qualidade do solo em diferentes sítios com a produção de Pinus taeda, em solos do Planalto Catarinense. Foram utilizadas quatro fazendas, com dois sítios em cada uma delas, escolhidos pelo tipo de solo e produtividade da floresta (alta e baixa produtividade). Foi descrita a morfologia e amostras de solo foram coletadas em cada horizonte pedogenético para análises físicas e químicas. Existe grande variação nas características físicas dos perfis, especialmente na sequência e espessura dos horizontes. Foi constatada compactação na camada superficial dos perfis mais rasos, evidenciada pela maior densidade e/ou, resistência à penetração do solo, nos quais, a produtividade foi reduzida entre 14 a 36 %, comparados aos perfis mais profundos e com menor grau de compactação.

ABSTRACT In forest areas, the continual use of the soil alters its physical attributes and deteriorates its quality, in consequence of the traffic of machines used in forest operations, resulting in lower yields of crops. The relationship between soil quality at different sites and the production of Pinus taeda was evaluated in soils of the Planalto Catarinense region. Four farms were used, with two sites on each farm, chosen for the soil type and yield of the forest. The soil morphology was described and samples were collected in each pedogenetic horizon for physical and chemical analyses. Great variation exists in the physical attributes of the profiles, especially in the sequence and thickness of the horizons. Compaction was verified in the surface layer of the shallow profiles, evidenced by the higher bulk density and, or, soil resistance to penetration. In these profiles, the yield was reduced by between 14 and 36%, compared to the deeper profiles with a smaller degree of compaction.
