Abstract Peripheral facial paralysis (PFP) has been shown to be a neurological manifestation of COVID-19. The current study presents two cases of PFP after COVID-19, along with a rapid review of known cases in the literature. Both case reports were conducted following CARE guidelines. We also performed a systematic review of PFP cases temporally related to COVID-19 using PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane Library databases on August 30, 2021, using a rapid review methodology. The two patients experienced PFP 102 and 110 days after COVID-19 symptom onset. SARS-CoV-2 RNA was detected in nasal samples through reverse-transcription real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) testing. Anosmia was the only other neurological manifestation. PFP was treated with steroids in both cases, with complete subsequent recovery. In the rapid review, we identified 764 articles and included 43 studies. From those, 128 patients with PFP were analyzed, of whom 42.1% (54/128) were male, 39.06% (50/128) female, and in 23 cases the gender was not reported. The age range was 18 to 59 (54.68%). The median time between COVID-19 and PFP was three days (ranging from the first symptom of COVID-19 to 40 days after the acute phase of infection). Late PFP associated with COVID-19 presents mild symptoms and improves with time, with no identified predictors. Late PFP should be added to the spectrum of neurological manifestations associated with the long-term effects of SARS-CoV-2 infection as a post COVID-19 condition.

ABSTRACT: In Southeast Brazil, the change of grape harvest from wet summer to dry winter through double-pruning management has improved the quality of wines, currently denominated winter wines. In order to better understand the influences of soil, macroclimate, and vineyard management in winter wines, we investigated seven vineyards in the states of Minas Gerais (Três Corações – TC, Três Pontas – TP, Cordislândia – COR, São Sebastião do Paraíso – SSP and Andradas – AND) and São Paulo (Itobi – ITO and Espirito Santo do Pinhal – PIN) during three consecutive growing seasons. The vineyards are located in warm temperate zones and grouped in four soil types: Acrudox in TC, AND and SSP, Hapludox in TP; Hapludult in AND and PIN; Eutrudept in ITO. The high clay content (> 35 %) observed in all soil types, associated to low evapotranspiration demand, avoided the occurrence of severe water stress, as observed by the high values of leaf and stem water potential, stomatal conductance, photosynthesis, and transpiration. Differences in vigor were more related to vineyard management and did not affect grape composition. Among vineyards, parameters for berry quality from ITO, such as sugar and acidity, were more associated to high soil sand content and winter temperature. No significant differences were found in anthocyanins and total phenols of berries among vineyards, suggesting that the high thermal range and low precipitation during autumn-winter, historically observed in all municipalities, seemed to be the main factor for improvement of phenolic compounds.

Resumo O presente estudo teve como objetivo avaliar a distribuição espacial de briófitas ocorrentes na Ilha de Mosqueiro, na Amazônia. Foram selecionadas 41 parcelas de 100 m² em ambientes alagados e não alagados para coleta de dados. Os resultados foram comparados com os levantamentos de outras ilhas do estado do Pará e analisados segundo frequência de populações, substratos colonizados, guildas de tolerância à luz e distribuição nos biomas brasileiros. Foram registradas 97 espécies, distribuídas em 36 gêneros e 18 famílias, sendo 57 (58,7%) hepáticas e 40 (41,2%) espécies de musgo. As espécies raras se destacaram com 53 espécies (54,08%). Observou-se alta similaridade entre as comunidades corticícolas e epíxilas, e entre a comunidade terrícola e com as briófitas encontradas crescendo no carvão, que é um substrato artificial. Em relação às guildas de tolerância à luz, prevaleceu a espécie generalista (52 espécies, 53,6%). Quanto à distribuição fitogeográfica, houve predomínio de espécies com ocorrência na Amazônia e Mata Atlântica (35 espécies, 37,11%) e espécies endêmicas da Amazônia (10 espécies, 10,3%). Ceratolejeunea ceratantha é relatada pela primeira vez para o estado do Pará. O nível de antropização na ilha foi evidenciado principalmente pela alta riqueza e ocorrência de espécies generalistas e bem adaptadas às condições de estresse, evidenciando alterações na estrutura da comunidade de briófitas.

Abstract The present study is aimed to evaluate the richness, composition and spatial distribution of bryophytes occurring in Mosqueiro Island, in the Amazon forest. Forty-one 100-m² plots in 37 flooded and 4 non-flooded environments were selected for data collection, all substrate found were considered. The results were compared with surveys in other islands from the state of Pará and were analyzed according to frequency of populations, colonized substrates, light tolerance guilds, and distribution in Brazilian biomes. Ninety-seven species were recorded, distributed in 36 genera and 17 families, being 57 (58.7%) liverwort and 40 (41.2%) moss species. The rare species stood out with 53 species (54.08%). High similarity was observed between corticolous and epixylic communities, and between the terricolous community and the bryophytes found growing on charcoal, which is an artificial substrate. In relation to light tolerance guilds, generalist species prevailed (52 species, 53.6%). As for phytogeographic distribution, there was a predominance of taxa with occurrence in the Amazon and Atlantic rainforest (35 species, 37.11%). Ceratolejeunea ceratantha is reported for the first time for the state of Pará. The level of anthropization in the island was showed mainly by high richness and occurrence of generalist species underscores and well-adapted species to stressed conditions, evidencing changes in the bryophyte community structure.

Abstract The aim of this study was to investigate the segregation patterns of molar incisor hypomineralization (MIH) in families, given the evidence that its etiology is influenced by genetics. Clinically, MIH may be detected in parents and/or siblings of MIH-affected children. Our study included children with at least one first permanent molar affected by MIH (proband) and their first-degree relatives (parents and siblings). The participants were examined clinically to detect MIH, according to the European Academy of Paediatric Dentistry criteria (2003). A total of 101 nuclear families (391 individuals) were studied. Proband diagnosis was followed by MIH classification of the subject, his parents and siblings, as affected, unaffected, or unknown. Segregation analysis was performed using the multivariate logistic regression model of the Statistical Analysis for Genetic Epidemiology package, and segregation models (general transmission, environmental, major gene, dominant, codominant and recessive models). The Akaike information criterion (AIC) was used to evaluate the most parsimonious model. In all, 130 affected individuals, 165 unaffected individuals, and 96 unknown individuals were studied. Severe MIH was found in 50.7% of the cases. A segregation analysis performed for MIH revealed the following different models: environmental and dominance (p = 0.05), major gene (p = 0.04), codominant (p = 0.15) and recessive models (p = 0.03). According to the AIC values, the codominant model was the most parsimonious (AIC = 308.36). Our results suggest that the codominant model could be the most likely for inheriting MIH. This result strengthens the evidence that genetic factors, such as multifactorial complex defect, influence MIH.

Abstract Sunlight and heating influence leaf and grape metabolism and therefore wine quality. As a recent management tool, no information exists on the effects of grapevine row orientation on the wine composition of Syrah vines within the context of double pruning management, a technique used to transfer the grape harvest from the wet summer to the dry winter season. This is a first attempt to investigate the wine composition from north-south- (NS) and east-west- (EW) oriented Syrah winter vines. EW wine samples had higher total acidity, residual sugars, alcohol and color hue, whereas NS wines exhibited higher content of color intensity, anthocyanins, total phenolics, total phenolic index, ashes and pH. The identification of volatile compounds was tentatively performed and demonstrated the presence of alkanes, volatile phenols and alkyl sulfide in NS wines, while butyrolactone and beta-damascenone were found mainly in EW wines. Row orientation contributed to wine composition and could be used as a management tool for obtaining individual wine styles.

Resumo A elaboração de produtos de panificação está se expandindo, principalmente devido à possibilidade de adição de outros ingredientes, a fim de enriquecê-los nutricionalmente. O espinafre (Tetragonia tetragonoides) é um vegetal amplamente utilizado, embora seu caule, que tem grande potencial de uso, ainda seja considerado um resíduo, sendo, por isso, descartado. Com base no exposto, este trabalho tem como objetivos elaborar e caracterizar aspectos físicos, químicos, sensoriais e minerais de muffins salgados enriquecidos com Tetragonia tetragonoides. Quatro formulações de muffins salgados foram elaboradas: Formulação Padrão (F1), Formulação com adição de folhas de espinafre (F2), Formulação com adição de caules de espinafre (F3) e Formulação com adição de folhas e caules de espinafre (F4). As caracterizações física e química das folhas e caules de Tetragonia tetragonoides foram feitas por meio da quantificação da umidade, do resíduo mineral fixado, das proteínas, da cor e dos minerais. Os muffins foram caracterizados pela análise de umidade, resíduo mineral fixo, proteína, açúcares redutores totais e cor e textura instrumental, além da análise sensorial e dos minerais. Os muffins apresentaram cor predominantemente verde, devido à adição de espinafre. Caules, folhas e muffins possuem alto teor de minerais, principalmente cálcio e ferro. A incorporação de vegetais nas formulações proporcionou aumento no teor de proteína e umidade, além de expressiva aceitação sensorial. Há viabilidade de produção de muffins saborosos com adição de folhas e caules, aproveitando assim o vegetal integralmente e evitando a geração de resíduos.

Abstract The preparation of bakery products is expanding, mainly due to the possibility of adding other ingredients, in order to enrich them nutritionally. Spinach (Tetragonia tetragonoides) is a vegetable widely used, although its stem that has great potential for use, is still considered a waste and discarded. Based on the aforementioned information, this work aims to elaborate and characterize physical, chemical, sensory and minerals of salty muffins enriched with T. tetragonoides. Four formulations of salty muffins were prepared as following: Standard Formulation (F1); Formulation with addition of spinach leaves (F2); Formulation with addition of spinach stems (F3); Formulation with addition of spinach leaves and stems (F4). The physical and chemical characterization of the leaves and stems of T. tetragonoides was done by quantifying the moisture, residue mineral fixed, proteins, color and minerals. Muffins were characterized by analyzing moisture, fixed mineral residue, protein, total reducing sugars and instrumental analysis of color and texture; sensory and minerals. The muffins showed a predominant green color, due to the addition of spinach. However, stems, leaves and muffins have a high content of minerals, especially calcium and iron. The incorporation of vegetables in the formulations provided an increase in protein content, in addition to expressive sensory acceptance. Feasibility is observed in the production of savory muffins with the addition of leaves and stems, thus using the entire vegetable and avoiding food waste.

ABSTRACT Characterization of the spatial variability of vegetative vigor in vineyards can help improve the performance of site-specific management practices, or the management of vineyards with different rates. Characterization using canopy proximal sensing has been a widely disseminated technique; however, vineyards in southeastern Brazil, where the utilization of annual double pruning results in a winter harvest, knowledge of the role of variability in improving vineyard management has not yet been applied. This study aimed to determine if post-veraison mapping of a normalized difference vegetation index could be used to assess the variability in grapevine vigor, water status, physiology, yield and berry quality attributes at harvest in an irrigated vineyard in southeastern Brazil. This normalized difference vegetation index was measured with an active canopy sensor, and spatial distribution maps over two growing seasons of a vineyard, managed on an annual double pruning basis, were generated. Attributes of physiological and technological berry maturation, leaf water potential, gas exchange, production, and fresh pruning weight were calculated. These normalized difference vegetation index maps allowed for the determination of variability in vegetative vigor and the productive potential of the vineyard; however, high levels of rainfall during the maturation period may reduce the potential of using these maps for determining berry parameters.

ABSTRACT: Double pruning extended the harvest season of wine grape (Vitis vinifera L.) to dry winter, enabling production of high quality wines in the southeastern Brazil. Winter harvest allows grapes to fulfill not only technological maturation, but also phenolic ripeness. Winter wines from Syrah grapes harvested from eight vineyards in southeastern Brazil during three harvests were analyzed for their chemical and aromatic composition after bottling and after ageing for 20, 30, and 42 months in bottle. Winter wines have high content of total phenolic compounds, which remained almost constant through ageing, as well as color intensity. Malvidin 3-O-glucoside stood out among anthocyanins, remaining 5-10 % after 39 months of ageing. Moreover, malvidin 3-O-glucoside-pyruvic acid was the main pyranoanthocyanin identified in winter wine. Polymerized pigments index ranged from 54 % at bottling to 80 % after 42 months of ageing. Young winter wines are rich in ester and monoterpene, as well as alcoholic volatile compounds responsible for ethereal, fruity, flowery, fresh and sweet aromas. Aged winter wines showed higher contents of furfural, geranyl ethyl ether, isoamyl decanoate, α-muurolene and α-calacorene, contributing to sweet, fruity and woody aromas. Syrah winter wines are characterized by high content of phenolic compounds and color stability, and keep good sensorial characteristics after ageing in bottle.

Resumen Antecedentes: los pastos tropicales, tales como el pasto elefante, tienen alto contenido de humedad cuando están en su estado fenológico ideal para ensilar. Esto dificulta su adecuada preservación en el silo, reduciendo el valor nutritivo del ensilaje debido a fermentaciones secundarias y generación de efluentes. Una posible solución sería incluir materiales con alto contenido de materia seca, tales como la torta de murumuru (Astrocaryum murumuru). Objetivo: determinar el efecto de la inclusión de torta de murumuru (0; 7; 14; 21 y 28%) sobre las características fermentativas, microbiológicas, estabilidad aeróbica y composición química de los ensilajes de pasto elefante. Métodos: se utilizó un diseño completamente al azar, con cinco tratamientos y cinco repeticiones. El pasto elefante fue colectado a los 60 días de edad, luego picado y homogeneizado con la torta de murumuru. La masa fue colocada en silos experimentales con capacidad de 15 L. Luego de 45 días de ensilado, los silos fueron abiertos y las muestras fueron colectadas para su posterior análisis. Resultados: hubo reducción (p<0,05) en la producción de efluentes a medida que se incrementó la proporción de torta de murumuru en el ensilado. Se observó un efecto cuadrático (p<0,05) en la recuperación de materia seca. Hubo aumento (p<0,05) en los contenidos de materia seca con la adición de torta de murumuru. Se observó disminución (p<0,05) en el contenido de fibra detergente neutra y aumento (p<0,05) de carbohidratos no fibrosos. Conclusión: La adición de torta de murumuru mejora la composición química, reduce las perdidas por efluentes y no afecta las características fermentativas de ensilado de pasto elefante. Sin embargo, la inclusión de la torta de murumuru en el ensilado de pasto elefante disminuye el tiempo en estabilidad aeróbica.

Resumo Antecedentes: capins tropicais, como por exemplo o capim-elefante apresentam alto teor de umidade quando possuem produtividade compatível e estão no estádio fenológico adequado para ensilagem. Isso dificulta a adequada preservação no silo, ocasionando a redução do valor nutritivo da silagem devido a fermentações secundárias e a produção de efluentes. Uma possível solução seria o uso de aditivos com alto teor de matéria seca, como bolo de murumuru (Astrocaryum murumuru). Objetivo: determinar o efeito da inclusão da torta de murumuru (0; 7; 14; 21 e 28%) na ensilagem de capim-elefante sobre as características fermentativas, microbiológicas, estabilidade aeróbia e a composição química das silagens. Métodos: utilizou- se um delineamento inteiramente casualizado, com cinco tratamentos e cinco repetições. O capim-elefante foi colhido aos 60 dias de idade, o mesmo foi picado e homogeneizado à torta de murumuru. A massa foi ensilada em silos experimentais com capacidade de 15 L. Após 45 dias de ensilagem, os silos foram abertos e amostras foram coletadas para posteriores análises laboratoriais. Resultados: houve redução (p<0,05) na produção de efluentes à medida que se elevaram as proporções da torta de murumuru na ensilagem. Observou-se efeito quadrático (p<0,05) na recuperação de matéria seca. Houve aumento (p<0,05) nos teores de matéria seca com a adição da torta murumuru. Observou-se diminuição (p<0,05) nos teores de fibra em detergente neutro e aumento (p<0,05) nos teores de carboidratos não fibrosos. Conclusão: torta de murumuru como aditivo melhora a composição química, reduz perdas principalmente por efluente e não afeta as características fermentativas de silagens de capim- elefante. Entretanto, a inclusão da torta de murumuru na ensilagem de capim-elefante diminui o tempo em estabilidade aeróbia.

Abstract Background: Tropical grasses, such as elephant grass, have high moisture content during its ideal phenological state for silage. High moisture content hinders proper preservation and reduces the nutritive value of silage due to secondary fermentation and production of effluents. Adding feed materials with high dry matter content, such as murumuru (Astrocaryum murumuru) meal, is a potential alternative to improve silage yield. Objective: To determine the effects of including murumuru meal (0, 7, 14, 21, and 28%) on the fermentative characteristics, microbiological activity, aerobic stability, and chemical composition of elephant grass silages. Methods: A completely randomized design with five treatments and five replicates was used. Elephant grass was collected at 60 d of age, minced, and homogenized with murumuru meal. The mass was placed in experimental 15-L silos. The silos were collected and analyzed 45 d later. Results: Effluent production decreased (p<0.05) as the proportions of murumuru meal in silage increased. A quadratic effect (p<0.05) was observed on dry matter recovery. An increase (p<0.05) was observed in dry matter content, a decrease (p<0.05) in the neutral detergent fiber content, and an increase (p<0.05) in the non-fibrous carbohydrate content with the inclusion of murumuru meal. Conclusions: Addition of murumuru meal improves chemical composition and does not affect the fermentative characteristics of elephant grass silage, while it reduces effluent losses. Nevertheless, the inclusion of murumuru meal in the elephant grass silage decreased the time of aerobic stability.

ABSTRACT Chardonnay cultivar has shown great potential of planting and development in sites above 900m of Brazilian southeast for sparkling wines production. The quality of this product is related to vineyard climate and management, since both affect the vine development and grape composition. In this study, three defoliation orientations (east, west and east/west face), at veraison, and a group without defoliation, were compared in order to observe the impacts of this management on the productivity, grape and base wine quality. Yield, grape components, must and base wine composition were analyzed for two years. East/west defoliation increased alcohol content and decreased acidity in base wines, while the group without defoliation increased acidity, according to the higher and lower sun exposure, respectively. Defoliation at veraison increased the incidence of bunch rots. Differences in the aromatic composition of the base wines between the harvests were identified. The east/west defoliation treatment presented more intense fruity, citrus and tropical aromas. For regions characterized by subtropical highland climate (Cwb) in the Brazilian Southeast, late defoliation is not recommended since defoliated plants were more susceptible to fungus infection at flowering and berry formation.

Abstract INTRODUCTION: Knowledge of triatomine bloodmeal sources is essential for understanding vector-host interactions in Trypanosoma cruzi transmission cycles. Expensive commercial deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) extraction kits are widely used for bloodmeal identification. This study assessed the performance of an inexpensive phenol-chloroform DNA extraction protocol for identification of triatomine bloodmeal sources, comparing it with a commercially available kit. METHODS: Both methods were used to obtain DNA from the intestinal contents of Triatoma brasiliensis blood-fed on either Columba sp., Mus musculus, or Gallus gallus. Subsequently, the mitochondrial 12S ribosomal ribonucleic acid (rRNA) gene was amplified by polymerase chain reaction, sequenced, and compared with GenBank data. RESULTS: Twelve (80%) samples extracted with the commercial kit and four (26.7%) with phenol-chloroform were pure (according to the A260/A280 ratio). Samples extracted with phenol-chloroform, except for Columba sp. samples, had higher DNA concentration than those extracted with the commercial kit. Samples extracted using phenol-chloroform and blood-fed on G. gallus had significantly higher DNA concentration than those blood-fed on Columba sp. (p-value <0.001) and M. musculus (p-value <0.001). The 215-base-pair 12S rRNA fragment was amplified from all samples and produced reliable sequences, enabling the identification of the bloodmeal source, most of which showed identity and coverage above 95%. The phenol-chloroform method was much less expensive than the commercial kit but took considerably more time to perform. CONCLUSIONS: Our data showed that both DNA extraction methods produced reliable sequences enabling identification of triatomine bloodmeal sources but differed greatly in cost and time required.

ABSTRACT. This study aimed at evaluating the internal and external quality of brown-shelled eggs commercialized in the municipality of Parintins-AM. A total of 540 eggs were evaluated and distributed in a completely randomized design, which consisted of three treatments and six replications of 30 eggs each. The treatments were: eggs sold in supermarkets; in grocery stores; and eggs sold directly at the farm. The age of the eggs from supermarkets and grocery stores was unknown, however, the eggs bought at the farm were marketed as being from the day of laying. The collected data were submitted to analysis of variance and Tukey test at 5% probability. There were no differences (p > 0.05) of treatments in the percentage of dirty eggs, however, grocery and farm eggs presented higher (p < 0.05) crack percentage. The eggs at the farm presented higher incidence (p < 0.05) of internal stains of blood. The weight of the egg and albumen presented no differences (p > 0.05). However, the albumen percentage of the farm eggs was higher than the other treatments (p < 0.05). The percentages for yolk and eggshell weight from the farm eggs were lower than the supermarket and grocery eggs (p < 0.05). For the variables albumen height, Haugh unit, albumen index, yolk and albumen pH, the best results were observed for the farm eggs, however, regarding these variables, eggs sold in supermarkets and grocery stores did not differ from each other. The brown shell eggs sold in the city of Parintins/AM have high rates of external defects, and the eggs bought directly from the farm presented better internal quality, when compared to eggs sold in different establishments.

ABSTRACT: The quality of sparkling wine reflects the climate and management of vineyard, since these factors affect grape development, berry composition, and base wine composition. ‘Chardonnay’ vines were subjected to five in-row spacing distances (0.5; 0.75; 1.0; 1.50; and 2.0 m) combined with and without shoot thinning. For each in-row spacing, vines were thinned to 5, 8, 10, 15, and 20 shoots per plant. Vegetative growth, yield, berry composition and base wine composition were analyzed for two years. Vines with decreased in-row spacing, presented fewer clusters and malic acid content in berries, mostly related to the shading effect. Shoot thinning increased bud fruitfulness and decreased leaf area per meter, leaf area per plant, and leaf layer number. In-row spacing from 1.5 m to 0.5 m showed promising results for the Southeast Brazil with higher yield per hectare and sufficient acidity to provide freshness in sparkling wines.

RESUMO Objetivos Analisar a adequação do tratamento hemodialítico em pacientes com rigidez arterial e associar os efeitos da doença renal com os fatores sociodemográficos e clínicos. Método Estudo epidemiológico, transversal realizado com 149 renais crônicos em tratamento de hemodiálise em hospital escola do interior do Estado de São Paulo. Utilizou-se para medida da rigidez arterial o aparelho de Dyna-MAPA®. Foram aplicados os testes de regressão linear multivariada, t Student e o qui-quadrado para os biomarcadores e a ocorrência de rigidez arterial. Resultados A maioria dos pacientes encontrava em idade produtiva, inativa profissionalmente, do sexo masculino, união estável, fazendo restrição hídrica e alimentar, com menos de 48 meses de tratamento dialítico; 36,9% dos pacientes apresentavam rigidez arterial. Os biomarcadores creatinina, ureia e fósforo estavam aumentados; hematócrito e hemoglobina estavam diminuídos, média de peso interdialítico de 2,34 ± 1,4 kg, e a maioria do Kt/V inadequado. Quanto aos efeitos da doença renal observou-se significância estatística com os inscritos na lista de transplantes, maior tempo de tratamento e aumento da creatinina. Conclusão Estes resultados podem proporcionar a diminuição da morbimortalidade cardiovascular nestes pacientes.

ABSTRACT Objectives To analyze the adequacy of hemodialysis treatment in patients with arterial stiffness and to associate the effects of renal disease with sociodemographic and clinical factors. Method A cross-sectional epidemiological study with 149 chronic renal patients undergoing hemodialysis treatment, in the interior of the State of São Paulo. They used to measure arterial stiffness with the Dyna-MAPA® device. The tests statistical were multivariate linear regression, t Student and chi-square were applied to the biomarkers and the occurrence of arterial stiffness. Results Most were of productive age, professionally inactive, male, in a stable union, water, and food restriction, and with less than 48 months of dialysis treatment and 36.9% of patients had arterial stiffness. The biomarkers creatinine, urea, and phosphorus were increased, hematocrit and hemoglobin were decreased, mean interdialytic weight was 2.34 ± 1.4kg, and most of the Kt / V inadequate. The effects of renal disease were statistically significant with those enrolled in the transplant list, longer treatment time, and increased creatinine. Conclusion These results are expected to reduce cardiovascular morbidity and mortality in these patients.

RESUMEN Objetivos Analizar la adecuación del tratamiento hemodialítico en pacientes con rigidez arterial y asociar los efectos de la enfermedad renal con los factores sociodemográficos y clínicos. Método Estudio epidemiológico, transversal realizado con 149 renales crónicos en tratamiento de hemodiálisis, en el interior del Estado de São Paulo. Utilizaron el instrumento para medir la rigidez arterial el aparato de Dyna-MAPA®. Se aplicaron los pruebas de Regresión Lineal Multivaria, t Student y el Chi-Cuadrado para los biomarcadores y la ocurrencia de rigidez arterial. Resultados La mayoría estaba en edad productiva, inactiva profesionalmente, del sexo masculino, en unión estable, haciendo restricción hídrica y alimentar y con menos de 48 meses de tratamiento dialítico y 36,9% de los pacientes presentaban rigidez arterial. Los biomarcadores creatinina, urea y fósforo estaban aumentados, hematocrito y hemoglobina estaban disminuidos, media de peso interdialítico de 2,34 ± 1,4 kg, y la mayoría del Kt / V inadecuado. En cuanto a los efectos de la enfermedad renal se observó significancia estadística con los inscritos en la lista de trasplantes, mayor tiempo de tratamiento y aumento de la creatinina. Conclusión: Se espera que estos resultados proporcionen la disminución de la morbimortalidad cardiovascular de estos pacientes.

ABSTRACT Objectives To analyze the adequacy of hemodialysis treatment in patients with arterial stiffness and to associate the effects of renal disease with sociodemographic and clinical factors. Method A cross-sectional epidemiological study with 149 chronic renal patients undergoing hemodialysis treatment, in the interior of the State of São Paulo. They used to measure arterial stiffness with the Dyna-MAPA® device. The tests statistical were multivariate linear regression, t Student and chi-square were applied to the biomarkers and the occurrence of arterial stiffness. Results Most were of productive age, professionally inactive, male, in a stable union, water, and food restriction, and with less than 48 months of dialysis treatment and 36.9% of patients had arterial stiffness. The biomarkers creatinine, urea, and phosphorus were increased, hematocrit and hemoglobin were decreased, mean interdialytic weight was 2.34 ± 1.4kg, and most of the Kt / V inadequate. The effects of renal disease were statistically significant with those enrolled in the transplant list, longer treatment time, and increased creatinine. Conclusion These results are expected to reduce cardiovascular morbidity and mortality in these patients.

RESUMEN Objetivos Analizar la adecuación del tratamiento hemodialítico en pacientes con rigidez arterial y asociar los efectos de la enfermedad renal con los factores sociodemográficos y clínicos. Método Estudio epidemiológico, transversal realizado con 149 renales crónicos en tratamiento de hemodiálisis, en el interior del Estado de São Paulo. Utilizaron el instrumento para medir la rigidez arterial el aparato de Dyna-MAPA®. RESUMO Objetivos Analisar a adequação do tratamento hemodialítico em pacientes com rigidez arterial e associar os efeitos da doença renal com os fatores sociodemográficos e clínicos. Método Estudo epidemiológico, transversal realizado com 149 renais crônicos em tratamento de hemodiálise em hospital escola do interior do Estado de São Paulo. Utilizou-se para medida da rigidez arterial o aparelho de Dyna-MAPA®. Foram aplicados os testes de regressão linear multivariada, t Student e o qui-quadrado para os biomarcadores e a ocorrência de rigidez arterial. Resultados A maioria dos pacientes encontrava em idade produtiva, inativa profissionalmente, do sexo masculino, união estável, fazendo restrição hídrica e alimentar, com menos de 48 meses de tratamento dialítico; 36,9% dos pacientes apresentavam rigidez arterial. Os biomarcadores creatinina, ureia e fósforo estavam aumentados; hematócrito e hemoglobina estavam diminuídos, média de peso interdialítico de 2,34 ± 1,4 kg, e a maioria do Kt/V inadequado. Quanto aos efeitos da doença renal observou-se significância estatística com os inscritos na lista de transplantes, maior tempo de tratamento e aumento da creatinina. Conclusão Estes resultados podem proporcionar a diminuição da morbimortalidade cardiovascular nestes pacientes.
