Abstract Objective To develop and validate the content of a mobile application prototype on Pressure Injury (PI) Prevention for elderly caregivers. Methods Methodological study of prototype-type technological production in mobile application. The application development was guided by the Contextualized Instructional Design (CID) model. The content validation stage was carried out by seven teaching nurses of a technical course for elderly caregivers in a federal educational institution with the application of the Suitability Assessment of Materials (SAM) instrument. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. Results The prototype, which was named LPPrev, contains information about the concept, staging, causes of LP, and main affecting sites, in addition to reminders to reposition the elderly in bed; registration of nutritional information, oral hydration, body and intimate hygiene, and guidance on preventive care is also possible. The content evaluation obtained 96.6% of agreement between professors, being considered a material of superior quality. Conclusion LPPrev is an application prototype properly structured according to the categories evaluated by the SAM, with relevant information for caregivers of bedridden and dependent elderly, contributing to theoretical knowledge and fundamental care in the prevention of injury by pressure, being prepared to move on to the other stages of the DIC model.

Resumen Objetivo Elaborar y validar el contenido de un prototipo de aplicación móvil sobre la prevención de úlcera por presión (UP) para cuidadores de personas mayores. Métodos Estudio metodológico de producción tecnológica de prototipo en aplicación móvil. El desarrollo de la aplicación fue guiado por el modelo de diseño educativo contextualizado (DEC). La etapa de validación de contenido fue realizada por siete enfermeros docentes de un curso técnico para cuidadores de personas mayores de una institución educativa nacional, mediante la aplicación del instrumento Suitability Assessement of Materials (SAM). Los datos se analizaron con estadística descriptiva. Resultados El prototipo, que fue llamado LPPrev, contiene información sobre el concepto, estadificación, causas de la UP, principales lugares de acometimiento, además de recordatorios para reposicionar a la persona mayor en la cama. También tiene la posibilidad de registrar información nutricional, hidratación oral, higiene corporal e íntima y dispone de instrucciones sobre cuidados preventivos. La evaluación de contenido obtuvo un 96,6 % de concordancia entre los docentes, por lo que es considerado un material de calidad superior. Conclusión El LPPrev es un prototipo de aplicación bien estructurado según las categorías evaluadas por el SAM, con información relevante para los cuidadores de personas mayores encamadas y dependientes. Contribuye para el conocimiento teórico y los cuidados fundamentales para la prevención de úlcera por presión y está preparado para avanzar hacia las siguientes etapas del modelo de DEC.

Resumo Objetivo Desenvolver e validar o conteúdo de um protótipo de aplicativo móvel sobre Prevenção de Lesão por Pressão (LP) para cuidadores de idosos. Métodos Estudo metodológico de produção tecnológica do tipo protótipo em aplicativo móvel. O desenvolvimento do aplicativo foi guiado pelo modelo de Design Instrucional Contextualizado (DIC). A etapa de validação de conteúdo foi realizada com sete enfermeiros docentes de um curso técnico para cuidador de idosos em uma instituição federal de ensino com a aplicação do instrumento Suitability Assessement of Materials (SAM). Os dados foram analisados usando a estatística descritiva. Resultados O protótipo, que foi nomeado LPPrev, contém informações sobre conceito, estadiamento, causas das LP, principais locais de acometimento, além de lembretes para reposicionar o idoso no leito; há também possibilidade de registro de informações nutricionais, hidratação oral, higiene corporal e íntima e disponibilização de orientações sobre cuidados preventivos. A avaliação de conteúdo obteve 96,6% de concordância entre os docentes, sendo considerado um material de qualidade superior. Conclusão O LPPrev é um protótipo de aplicativo adequadamente estruturado segundo as categorias avaliadas pelo SAM, com informações relevantes aos cuidadores de idosos acamados e dependentes, contribuindo para o conhecimento teórico e cuidados fundamentais na prevenção de lesão por pressão, estando preparado para avançar para as demais etapas do modelo de DIC.

ABSTRACT Objective: To report nine cases of pediatric patients with Acute Lymphoid Leukemia (ALL) or Acute Myeloid Leukemia who developed severe oral mucositis (SOM) at the first week of chemotherapy. Material and Methods: The cases were selected from a sample of 105 children followed for 10 consecutive weeks. Hematological and personal data were obtained from the patient's medical records. The oral cavity was examined weekly using the modified Oral Assessment Guide. Results: More of the patients were male (55.6%), had black/brown skin (55.6%), with ALL (66.7%), and the mean age was 5.55. Two patients had values below normal for leukocytes, platelets, and creatinine over the follow-up. However, all patients showed changes in the normality of hematological data in most weeks. The most used chemotherapeutic agents were aracytin, etoposide, and methotrexate, known for their high stomatotoxic potential. Patients had 2 to 6 (mean of 4) episodes of SOM and 4 to 7 (mean of 5.5) episodes of OM. One patient at week 7, one patient at week 5, and one patient at weeks 2 and 10 did not have OM. Saliva (84 times) and lips (44 times) were the most affected items. Conclusion: The patients showed oscillations in the severity of oral mucositis and hematological parameters over the follow-up. All patients were exposed to stomatotoxic drugs during the initial phase of cancer treatment.

Resumen: Objetivo: Identificar las prácticas de promoción de la lactancia materna en el contexto hospitalario brasileño. Método: Este estudio es una revisión bibliográfica integradora que utiliza las siguientes bases de datos: LILACS, BDENF, MEDLINE y PUBMED. Basado en los descriptores de Ciencias de la Salud: Breast Feeding; Hospital; Health Promotion, que se cruzarán utilizando el operador booleano AND. Resultados: En esta revisión integradora se seleccionaron 14 estudios que permitieron identificar las siguientes prácticas de promoción del parto materno en el contexto hospitalario: el contacto de la piel con la piel después del nacimiento, el tipo de parto, la asistencia enfermera y el manejo del dolor durante el proceso de amamantamiento. Conclusión: Se observó que este estudio identificó la práctica de promoción de la salud materna en el contexto hospitalario, descrita en los resultados de forma sistematizada. Esta práctica hace necesario realizar cambios dentro de los hospitales y se implantan de forma correcta.

Abstract: Objective: Identify breastfeeding promotion practices in the Brazilian hospital context. Method: This study is an integrative literature review in which the following databases were used: LILACS, BDENF, MEDLINE and PUBMED. Using the descriptors in Health Sciences: Breast Feeding; Hospital; Health Promotion, which are crossed using the Boolean operator AND. Results: Fourteen studies were selected in this integrative review, which allowed the identification of the following breastfeeding promotion practices in hospital settings: skin-to-skin contact after birth, type of delivery, nursing care, and pain management during the breastfeeding process. Conclusion: It was observed that this study identified the practice of breastfeeding promotion in the hospital context, described in the results in a systematized way. This practice needs to be changed in hospitals and be correctly implemented.

Resumo: Objetivo: Identificar práticas de promoção ao aleitamento materno no contexto hospitalar brasileiro. Método: O presente estudo trata-se de uma revisão integrativa da literatura na qual foram utilizadas as bases de dados: LILACS, BDENF, MEDLINE e PUBMED. Também foi realizado a partir dos Descritores em Ciências da Saúde: Breast Feeding; Hospital; Health Promotion, os quais foram cruzados utilizando o operador booleano AND. Resultados: Foram selecionados nesta revisão integrativa 14 estudos que permitiram a identificação das seguintes práticas de promoção ao aleitamento materno no contexto hospitalar: o contato pele a pele após o nascimento, o tipo do parto, a assistência de enfermagem e o manejo da dor durante o processo da amamentação. Conclusão: Observou-se que este estudo identificou a prática de promoção ao aleitamento materno no contexto hospitalar, descrito nos resultados de forma sistematizada. Constatamos que há a necessidade de mudanças dessas práticas dentro dos hospitais e que sejam implantadas de maneira correta.

Abstract Objective: To describe the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on dental care provided to pediatric cancer patients assisted in a referral hospital. Material and Methods: This is an observational, retrospective study based on secondary data extracted from worksheets of dental procedures for patients aged between 0 and 19 years assisted in the pediatric oncology sector of a hospital in João Pessoa, PB, Brazil. Dental procedures performed by the interdisciplinary team of researchers from August 2018 to February 2020 (19 months prior to the pandemic) and from April 2020 to October 2021 (19 months during the pandemic) were totaled and compared. A descriptive analysis of the data was performed. Results: There was a reduction of 80.2% in dental interventions implemented in the sector during the pandemic, with the number of procedures decreasing from 6,210 (the period before the pandemic) to 1,229 (during the pandemic). Most procedures in both periods were performed for patients assisted in beds, for whom there was a reduction of care provided for 81.2% from 5,275 to 994 procedures. Dental procedures in the outpatient clinic decreased by 74.9%, from 935 to 235. Conclusion: The COVID-19 pandemic negatively impacted dental care provided to pediatric oncology patients by restricting dental procedures to emergency demands, compromising performance prevention and health promotion actions.

Metabolomics, together with analytical methods and chemometric tools, point to new paths for selecting species that are resistant to pests and diseases. In this work, the forage palm species' metabolomic profile was investigated, and the relation between the chemical composition and resistance to Dactylopius opuntiae (carmine cochineal). The study was performed in cladodes of different non-susceptible cultivars (Nopalea cochenillifera (L.) Salm-Dyck, Opuntia stricta (Haw.), Nopalea cochenillifera and susceptible cultivar (Opuntia ficus-indica (L.) Mill.)). Metabolic profile showed 28 metabolites detected in the four species. From these total, 18 metabolites were annotated using UPLC-QTOF-MSE (ultra-performance liquid chromatography coupled with an electrospray ionization quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry operating in MSE mode). By comparing the chemical profiles of non-susceptible and susceptible species through the application of chemometric tools, it was possible to obtain biomarkers (quercetin-3-O-2',6'-dirhamnosylglucoside, quercetin rhamnosyl dihexoside, and isorhamnetin-3-sophoroside-7-rhamnoside) that may be associated with resistance to carmine cochineal. Metabolomics based on UPLC-QTOF-MSE and chemometric allowed to establish the biomarkers knowledge of the resistance present in forage palm species. These results contribute to developing the initial understanding of flavonoids' role in the defense mechanisms of cactaceans and can be useful for application in breeding programs; it can increase the chances of success in creating new varieties of plants not susceptible to carmine cochineal.

RESUMO Objetivo: Apresentar as diretrizes de estimulação sensório-motora para recém-nascidos e lactentes em unidade de terapia intensiva., Métodos: Trata-se de um método de delineamento misto com revisão sistemática da literatura e recomendações com base na evidência científica e opiniões de fisioterapeutas especialistas em fisioterapia neonatal de estudos publicados entre 2010 e 2018 nas bases de dados MEDLINE® e Cochrane, que incluiu recém-nascidos (pré-termo e a termo) e lactentes (entre 28 dias e 6 meses de idade) admitidos à unidade de terapia intensiva e submetidos a métodos de estimulação sensório-motora. Os estudos encontrados foram classificados segundo o escore GRADE por cinco fisioterapeutas em diferentes regiões do país e apresentados em oito congressos científicos para discussão das diretrizes de práticas clínicas., Resultados: Foram incluídos 89 artigos para construir as diretrizes de práticas clínicas. Estimulação auditiva, gustatória e contato pele a pele se destacaram por melhorar os sinais vitais, e a massagem terapêutica, assim como a estimulação multimodal tátil-cinestésica por melhorar o peso ou a sucção., Conclusão: Embora todas a modalidades tenham boas avaliações para controle da dor ou do estresse, é recomendado que os procedimentos de estimulação sensório-motora sejam adaptados às necessidades específicas da criança, e as intervenções sejam realizadas por profissionais experientes.

Abstract Objective: To present guidelines on sensory motor stimulation for newborns and infants in the intensive care unit. Methods: We employed a mixed methods design with a systematic review of the literature and recommendations based on scientific evidence and the opinions of physiotherapists with neonatal expertise. The research included studies published between 2010 and 2018 in the MEDLINE® and Cochrane databases that included newborns (preterm and term) and infants (between 28 days and 6 months of age) hospitalized in the intensive care unit and submitted to sensory motor stimulation methods. The studies found were classified according to the GRADE score by five physiotherapists in different regions of Brazil and presented at eight Scientific Congresses held to discuss the clinical practice guidelines. Results: We included 89 articles to construct the clinical practice guidelines. Auditory, gustatory and skin-to-skin stimulation stand out for enhancing vital signs, and tactile-kinesthetic massage and multisensory stimulation stand out for improving weight or sucking. Conclusion: Although all modalities have good ratings for pain or stress control, it is recommended that sensory motor stimulation procedures be tailored to the infant’s specific needs and that interventions and be carried out by expert professionals.

ABSTRACT Objective: To evaluate the antibacterial effect and the solubility of experimental root canal filling pastes containing the phytoconstituents terpineol and cinnamaldehyde. Material and Methods: Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) of each phytoconstituent was determined against Enterococcus faecalis. Five groups of antibiotic pastes based on zinc oxide were obtained by mixing: only terpineol, only cinnamaldehyde, terpineol and cinnamaldehyde combined, chlorhexidine (antibiotic control), and CTZ paste (control paste). Antibacterial activity was analyzed through direct contact test within 24 and 72 hours. Solubility was evaluated by spectrophotometry within 48 and 144 hours. Antibacterial activity data were analyzed descriptively, and solubility data was analyzed using ANOVA and Tukey tests (p<0.05). Results: The MIC obtained for terpineol and cinnamaldehyde were, respectively, 2000 µg/mL and 500 µg/mL. After 24h, only the terpineol paste did not inhibit E. faecalis growth. After 72h, all groups inhibited E. faecalis growth. After 48h, the highest solubility was verified in the terpineol paste (p<0.05), and no differences were detected among other groups (p>0.05). After and 144h, highest solubility was observed in the terpineol paste (p<0.05), followed by the CTZ paste (p<0.05). No differences were detected for cinnamaldehyde, terpineol+cinnamaldehyde and chlorhexidine pastes (p>0.05). Conclusion: Pastes containing cinnamaldehyde or terpineol+cinnamaldehyde showed antibacterial activity against E. faecalis similar to CTZ paste, with lower solubility.

RESUMO Objetivos: construir e analisar a validade de conteúdo de um instrumento para avaliar a intenção comportamental de indivíduos com hipertensão de tomar comprimidos anti-hipertensivos. Métodos: estudo metodológico fundamentado na teoria do comportamento planejado, desenvolvido em três etapas: elaboração do instrumento, validação de conteúdo e pré-teste com o público-alvo. O conteúdo foi validado por seis especialistas. Aplicou-se o Índice de Validade de Conteúdo. Resultados: participaram cinco enfermeiros e um psicólogo, com experiências em hipertensão arterial sistêmica e/ou teoria do comportamento planejado. A primeira versão do instrumento continha 40 itens. Após análise, originou-se a segunda versão, com 36 itens. Obteve-se concordância de 100% para abrangência dos constructos. O pré-teste evidenciou clareza e compreensão dos itens pelo públicoalvo. Conclusões: o instrumento configura-se um produto tecnológico confiável e inovador para utilização em populações com hipertensão arterial sistêmica e crenças semelhantes às identificadas no grupo pesquisado.

ABSTRACT Objectives: to build and analyze the validity of an instrument to assess the behavioral intention of individuals with hypertension to take antihypertensive pills. Methods: methodological study based on the theory of planned behavior, developed in three stages: preparation of the instrument, validation of content and pre-test with the target audience. The content has been validated by six experts. The Content Validity Index was applied. Results: five nurses and one psychologist participated, with experiences in systemic arterial hypertension and/or planned behavior theory. The first version of the instrument contained 40 items. After analysis, the second version originated, with 36 items. 100% agreement was obtained for the scope of the constructions. The pre-test showed clarity and understanding of the items by the target audience. Conclusions: the instrument is a reliable and innovative technological product for use in populations with systemic arterial hypertension and beliefs similar to those identified in the surveyed group.

Abstract This study aimed to analyze the influence of socioeconomic factors on the frequency of diagnoses of oral mucosal changes and the number of hospitalized patients with oral and oropharyngeal cancer in Brazil. This cross-sectional study analyzed data from all Brazilian cities in the period 2011–2017. The frequency of diagnoses of oral mucosal changes and the number of hospitalized patients of oral and oropharyngeal cancer in Brazil were extracted from the Primary Care Information System (SIAB) and Brazilian National Cancer Institute (INCA) databases. The socioeconomic factors evaluated were the Gini coefficient of inequality, municipal Human Development Index (MHDI), inadequate basic sanitation rate, employment rate, illiteracy rate and expected years of schooling. Associated factors were examined using bivariate Spearman’s correlations and multivariate Poisson regressions, and statistically significant (p < 0.05) correlations between study variables and regression coefficients were obtained. A higher frequency of diagnoses of mucosal changes was observed in cities with a higher Gini coefficient (B = 11.614; p < 0.001), higher MHDI (B = 11.298; p < 0.001), and higher number of hospitalized patients with oral and oropharyngeal cancer (B = 0.001, p < 0.002). Cities with higher Gini coefficients (B = 8.159, p < 0.001), higher inadequate basic sanitation rates (B = 0.09, p = 0.001), lower expected years of schooling (B = -0.718, p < 0.001), and higher illiteracy rates (B = 0.191, p < 0.001) had a higher frequency of hospitalized patients with oral and oropharyngeal cancer. In conclusion, more developed cities showed a higher frequency of diagnoses of mucosal changes. Greater inequality and worse socioeconomic conditions are associated with a higher frequency of hospitalized patients with oral and oropharyngeal cancer in Brazil.

RESUMEN Objetivo: identificar los predictores psicosociales que influyen la intención comportamental de tomar los antihipertensivos orales. Materiales y métodos: estudio transversal, fundamentado en la teoría de la conducta planeada. Se aplicó un cuestionario construido y validado a 220 individuos con hipertensión arterial sistémica en seguimiento ambulatorio en un hospital público. Se emplearon las pruebas de Cui-cuadrado y exacto de Fisher, correlación de Spearman y regresión logística múltiple para analizar los datos. Resultados: los participantes presentaron alta intención de tomar los antihipertensivos. Las creencias comportamentales (ß = 0,0432; p = 0,0364), la norma subjetiva (ß = -1,5708; p < 0,01) y el control comportamental percibido (ß = 2,2809; p = 0,0028) explicaron la intención comportamental en el 33 %. Conclusiones: creencias comportamentales, norma subjetiva y control comportamental percibido son predictores psicosociales significativos de la tomada de los antihipertensivos y deben valorarse, de forma individual y conjunta, en las acciones de salud hacia esta población.

The behavioral beliefs (ß = 0.0432; p = 0.0364), subjective norm (ß = -1.5708; p < 0.01) and perceived behavioral control (ß = 2.2809; p = 0.0028) explained the behavioral intention in 33 %. Conclusions: The behavioral beliefs, the subjective norm, and the perceived behavioral control are significant psychosocial predictors of taking antihypertensive drugs and must be valued, individually and jointly, in the health actions targeted at this population.

As crenças comportamentais (ß = 0,0432; p = 0,0364), a norma subjetiva (ß = -1,5708; p < 0,01) e o controle comportamental percebido (ß = 2,2809; p = 0,0028) explicaram a intenção comportamental em 33 %. Conclusões: crenças comportamentais, norma subjetiva e controle comportamental percebido são preditores psicossociais significativos da tomada dos anti-hipertensivos e devem ser valorizados, de forma individual e conjunta, nas ações de saúde direcionadas a essa população.

Resumo Esta revisão sistemática comparou o estado de saúde bucal entre idosos institucionalizados e não institucionalizados. As seguintes bases de dados eletrônicas foram pesquisadas: PubMed (Medline), Scopus, Web of Science, Lilacs e Cochrane Library, de forma abrangente e irrestrita. Pesquisas eletrônicas recuperaram 1.687 artigos, que foram analisados com relação aos respectivos critérios de elegibilidade. Após a leitura de títulos e resumos, cinco estudos foram incluídos e analisados quanto à qualidade metodológica. A condição bucal de idosos institucionalizados e não institucionalizados foi comparada por meio de meta-análise. Os artigos incluídos envolveram um delineamento transversal, que investigou 1.936 indivíduos acima de 60 anos, sendo 999 institucionalizados e 937 não institucionalizados. Investigou-se a prevalência de edentulismo, a experiência de cárie e a condição periodontal. A meta-análise revelou que idosos institucionalizados possuem maior prevalência de edentulismo (OR = 2,28, IC95% = 1,68-3,07), maior número de dentes cariados (DM = 0,88, IC95% = 0,71-1,05) e de dentes perdidos (DM = 4.58, IC95% = 1,89-7,27). A condição periodontal ruim não diferiu significativamente entre os grupos. Comparados aos não institucionalizados, os idosos institucionalizados tem pior experiência de cárie.

Abstract This systematic review compared the oral health status between institutionalized and non-institutionalized elders. The following electronic databases were searched: PubMed (Medline), Scopus, Web of Science, Lilacs and Cochrane Library, in a comprehensive and unrestricted manner. Electronic searches retrieved 1687 articles, which were analyzed with regards to respective eligibility criteria. After reading titles and abstracts, five studies were included and analyzed with respect their methodological quality. Oral status of institutionalized and non-institutionalized elderly was compared through meta-analysis. Included articles involved a cross-sectional design, which investigated 1936 individuals aged 60 years and over, being 999 Institutionalized and 937 non-institutionalized elders. Studies have investigated the prevalence of edentulous individuals, the dental caries experience and the periodontal status. Meta-analysis revealed that institutionalized elderly have greater prevalence of edentulous (OR = 2.28, 95%CI = 1.68-3.07) and higher number of decayed teeth (MD = 0.88, 95%CI = 0.71-1.05) and missed teeth (MD = 4.58, 95%CI = 1.89-7.27). Poor periodontal status did not differ significantly between groups. Compared to non-institutionalized, institutionalized elders have worse dental caries experience.

Abstract Objective: To determine the occurrence and severity of oral mucositis (OM) and the factors associated with the onset of severe oral mucositis (SOM) in pediatric cancer patients. Material and Methods: This was a longitudinal and prospective study with 85 children and adolescents (aged 0 to 19 years) admitted to the Pediatric Oncology Sector of Napoleão Laureano Hospital between November 2016 and July 2019. The patients’ sociodemographic and epidemiological information, as well as hematological and biochemical parameters, were obtained from their medical charts. The oral mucosa of study participants was assessed through the modified Oral Assessment Guide (OAG) at baseline and after the 2nd, 5th and 10th week of antineoplastic treatment. Data were analyzed by Chi-square test to determine the factors associated with the occurrence of SOM (p<0.05). Results: The occurrence of OM was more frequent in the 2nd (60%), 5th (40.9%) and 10th week (43.2%) of antineoplastic treatment. During the follow-up period, SOM was more frequent in the 5th week (34.7%), followed by the 2nd (32.3%) and 10th weeks (29.7%). There was no association between the occurrence of SOM and the patient's age, type of tumor, chemotherapy regimen, and hematological and biochemical parameters. Conclusion: The occurrence of oral mucositis in pediatric cancer patients was significant, especially in the 2nd week of antineoplastic treatment. Severe oral mucositis was more prevalent in the 5th week of treatment and was not associated with any of the study variables.

RESUMO Introdução: Modelos de cuidado contínuo baseiam recentes estratégias em HIV, infecções sexualmente transmissíveis e hepatite C (HCV). Métodos: Desenvolveram-se modelos de contínuo do cuidado em HIV, HCV e sífilis congênita incluindo todas as etapas da atenção, desde a promoção e a prevenção até o controle clínico/cura. O modelo baseou a intervenção QualiRede, desenvolvida em parceria entre universidade e Sistema Único de Saúde (SUS), direcionada a gestores e demais profissionais de 6 regiões de saúde prioritárias em São Paulo e Santa Catarina. Selecionaram-se indicadores para cada etapa do contínuo do cuidado, provenientes dos sistemas de informação do SUS e dos questionários de avaliação de processo Qualiaids e QualiAB. Os indicadores formaram a base técnica de duas oficinas com profissionais e gestores de cada região: a primeira para identificar problemas e formar um Grupo Técnico Regional; e a segunda para construir planos de ação e metas a fim de melhorar o desempenho regional. Resultados: Os indicadores estão disponíveis no website www.qualirede.org. As oficinas ocorreram em quatro regiões de São Paulo (Alto Tietê, Baixada Santista, Grande ABC e Registro) e uma região de Santa Catarina (Foz do Rio Itajaí), resultando em planos regionais em São Paulo, mas não em Santa Catarina. Observou-se domínio limitado dos novos protocolos para HIV e HCV e uso incipiente de indicadores na rotina dos serviços. Conclusão: Melhorar o desempenho do contínuo do cuidado exige apropriação dos indicadores de desempenho e coordenação integrada dos fluxos de atenção em todos os níveis de gestão.

ABSTRACT Introduction: Care continuum models have supported recent strategies against sexually transmitted diseases, such as HIV and Hepatitis C (HCV). Methods: HIV, HCV, and congenital syphilis care continuum models were developed, including all stages of care, from promotion/prevention to clinical control/cure. The models supported the intervention QualiRede, developed by a University-Brazilian National Health System (SUS) partnership focused on managers and other professionals from six priority health regions in São Paulo and Santa Catarina. Indicators were selected for each stage of the care continuum from the SUS information systems and from the Qualiaids and QualiAB facility’s process evaluation questionnaires. The indicators acted as the technical basis of two workshops with professionals and managers in each region: the first one to identify problems and to create a Regional Technical Group; and the second one to design action plans for improving regional performance. Results: The indicators are available at www.qualirede.org. The workshops took place in the regions of Alto Tietê, Baixada Santista, Grande ABC, and Registro (São Paulo) and of Foz do Rio Itajaí (Santa Catarina), which resulted in regional action plans in São Paulo, but not in Santa Catarina. A lack of awareness was observed regarding the new HIV and HCV protocols, as well as an incipient use of indicators in routine practices. Conclusion: Improving the performance of the care continuum requires appropriation of performance indicators and coordination of care flows at local, regional, and state levels of management.
