Abstract The so-called surgery diaries are a relatively recent type of content on the internet and social networks. These are videos in which Brazilian digital influencers narrate their experiences of undergoing cosmetic surgeries, such as the implantation of silicone prostheses in the breasts and liposuction. It is argued in this article that this material illustrates a particular type of digitization of life. The intimacy of the surgical process, as well as expectations, feelings and sensations are presented in an audiovisual format intended to be shared with a large number of “followers”. This phenomenon is analyzed considering the discussions about improvement, personal exposition, gender and corporal and subjective transformations.

Resumo Os chamados diários de cirurgia são um tipo de conteúdo relativamente recente na internet e nas redes sociais. Trata-se de vídeos nos quais influenciadoras digitais brasileiras narram as suas experiências de realização de cirurgias estéticas, como o implante de próteses de silicone nos seios e a lipoaspiração. Argumenta-se neste artigo que esse material ilustra um tipo particular de digitalização da vida. A intimidade do processo cirúrgico, bem como expectativas, sentimentos e sensações são apresentados em um formato audiovisual destinado a ser compartilhado com um grande número de “seguidores”. Esse fenômeno é analisado considerando as discussões sobre aprimoramento, exposição pessoal, gênero e transformações corporais e subjetivas.

RESUMO: Objetivo: Analisar a carga de câncer relacionado ao trabalho no Brasil e unidades da federação, entre 1990 e 2019. Métodos: Extraímos os dados do estudo Carga Global de Doenças (GBD). Consideramos as mortes por câncer cujo fator de risco atribuível fossem agentes ocupacionais carcinogênicos. A análise espacial foi realizada com o primeiro e último anos da série (1990 e 2019). As taxas de mortalidade ajustadas por idade foram utilizadas para calcular o índice de Moran global (I de Moran) e o indicador local de associação espacial (LISA). A taxa de mortalidade por câncer relacionado ao trabalho, ajustada por idade, foi analisada com base em sua tendência, para Brasil e unidades da federação, no período entre 1990 e 2019. Resultados: No período citado, a taxa de mortalidade por câncer relacionado ao trabalho exibiu tendência de decréscimo (R2=0,62; p<0,001), assim como o indicador de carga de doença — DALY (R2=0,84; p<0,001). Contudo, a mortalidade é crescente na maioria dos estados, o que sugere que uma minoria de unidades induz a tendência global do país. Há ainda formação de um padrão espacial de autocorrelação, indicando agrupamentos de estados com baixas taxas de mortalidade e DALY no Nordeste e valores altos no Sul do país. Conclusão: A tendência global de decréscimo na tendência do câncer relacionado ao trabalho mascara a heterogeneidade entre estados. Esse cenário pode estar associado à diversidade de atividades econômicas e sugere um plano descentralizado e equitativo da vigilância do câncer relacionado ao trabalho.

ABSTRACT: Objective: To analyze the spatiotemporal distribution of the burden of occupational cancer in Brazil and federative units between 1990 and 2019. Methods: Data were extracted from the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) study. Deaths from cancer whose attributable risk factor was occupational carcinogens were considered. Spatial analysis was performed with the first and last years of the series (1990 and 2019). Age-adjusted mortality rates were used to estimate the global Moran’s Index (Moran’s I), and the local indicator of spatial association (LISA) to identify clusters in the country with the respective statistical significance. The occupational cancer mortality rate, adjusted for age, was analyzed based on its trend for Brazil and federative units, in the period between 1990 and 2019. Results: Between 1990 and 2019, occupational cancer mortality rate showed a decreasing trend (R2=0.62; p<0.001) as well as the burden of disease indicator — DALY (R2=0.84; p<0.001). However, mortality is increasing in most states, suggesting that a minority of federative units induce the country’s global trend. There is also the development of a spatial pattern of autocorrelation, indicating clusters of states with low mortality and DALY rates in the Northeast and high values in the South of the country. Conclusion: The overall decreasing trend in the trend of occupational cancer masks the heterogeneity across states. This scenario may be associated with the diversity of economic activities, and suggests a decentralized and equitable plan for occupational cancer surveillance.

Resumo Investigar o impacto dos programas de tranferência de renda (CTs) nos desfechos ao nascer, incluindo peso ao nascer, baixo peso ao nascer e prematuridade, e crescimento físico infantil, avaliado pelos índices antropométricos de crianças menores de cinco anos. Revisão sistemática realizada nas bases de dados PubMed/Medline, Embase, LILACS, Cochrane Library, Scopus e Web of Science. Foram incluídos estudos quantitativos observacionais, experimentais e quasi-experimentais, com um total de 11 estudos na revisão. A maioria (81,8%) foi realizada em países de baixa e média rendas. Também na modalidade CT condicionais (63,6%). Quatro eram ensaios clínicos, e sete observacionais. Os CT condicionais estiveram associados a uma redução nos índices de altura-para-idade (-0,14; IC95% -0,27, -0,02); (OR 0,85; IC95% 0,77-0,94); (OR = 0,44; IC95% 0,19-0,98), redução significativa na chance de baixo peso-para-idade (OR = 0,16; IC95% -0,11-0,43), baixo peso-para-altura (OR = -0,68; IC95% -1,14, -0,21), e redução de peso para idade (OR = 0,27; IC95% 0,10; 0,71). CTs não condicionais foram associados à redução do baixo peso as nascer (RR = 0,71; IC95% 0,63-0,81; p < 0,0001), e de prematuros (RR = 0,76; IC95% 0,69-0,84; p < 0,0001). Os CTs condicionais podem influenciar positivamente os desfechos ao nascer e o crescimento infantil.

Abstract To investigate the impact of cash transfer (CTs) on birth outcomes, including birth weight, low birth weight and prematurity, as well as child physical growth were included, as assessed by anthropometric indices in children under five years of age. Searching was performed using the PubMed/Medline, Embase, LILACS, Cochrane Library, Scopus and Web of Science databases. Quantitative observational, experimental and quasi-experimental. Eleven studies were included in the review. The majority (81.8%) were carried out in low-and middle-income countries and most involved conditional CTs (63.6%). Four were clinical trials and seven were observational studies. Conditional CTs were found to be associated with a reduction in height-for-age (-0.14; 95%CI -0.27, -0.02); (OR 0.85; 95%CI 0.77-0.94); (OR = 0.44; 95%CI 0.19-0.98), a significantly reduced chance of low weight-for-age (OR = 0.16; 95%CI -0.11-0.43), low weight-for-height (OR = -0.68; 95%CI -1.14, -0.21), and low weight-for-age (OR = 0.27; 95%CI 0.10; 0.71). Unconditional CTs were associated with reduced birth weight (RR = 0.71; 95%CI 0.63-0.81; p < 0.0001) and preterm births (RR = 0.76; 95%CI 0.69-0.84; p < 0.0001). Conditional CTs can positively influence birth outcomes and child growth.

Abstract This purpose of this study was to compare the efficiency of the McMaster and Mini-FLOTAC quantitative techniques in the investigation of helminths in feces of pigs. An analysis was made of 74 fecal samples from pigs raised on family farms located in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. These were analyzed by the Mini-FLOTAC and McMaster techniques in a solution of 1,200g/mL NaCl. This investigation revealed a superiority in the frequency of all helminths detected by Mini-FLOTAC, including Ascaris suum, Trichuris suis, strongyles and Strongyloides ransomi. The Kappa index revealed substantial agreement in all comparisons made in relation to the frequency of positive samples. However, significant statistical differences in the comparison of EPGs between McMaster and Mini-FLOTAC were observed for all nematodes (p ≤0.05). Higher values of Pearson’s linear correlation coefficient (r), between the techniques in relation to EPG were observed for A. suum and T. suis, differently from what was observed for strongyles and S. ransomi. Mini-FLOTAC proved to be a more satisfactory and reliable technique both for the diagnosis of parasites and for the determination of EPG in pig feces due to the larger size of its counting chambers, thus increasing the helminth egg recovery rates.

Resumo Este estudo objetivou comparar a eficiência das técnicas quantitativas de McMaster e Mini-FLOTAC para a pesquisa de helmintos em fezes de suínos. Foram analisadas 74 amostras fecais de suínos mantidos em propriedades familiares, localizadas no Rio de Janeiro, Brasil. Estas foram analisadas pelas técnicas de Mini-FLOTAC e McMaster com solução de NaCl 1.200g/mL. Pode-se verificar uma superioridade na frequência de todos os helmintos detectados por meio do Mini-FLOTAC, incluindo-se Ascaris suum, Trichuris suis, estrongilídeos e Strongyloides ransomi. O índice Kappa mostrou uma concordância substancial em todas as comparações realizadas, em relação à frequência de amostras positivas. Entretanto, diferenças estatísticas significativas na comparação do OPG entre McMaster e Mini-FLOTAC foram observadas para todos os nematoides (p ≤0.05). Elevados valores do coeficiente de correlação de Pearson foram observados entre as técnicas, em relação ao OPG para A. suum e T. suis, diferentemente do evidenciado para estrôngilos e S. ransomi. Mini-FLOTAC mostrou-se uma técnica mais satisfatória e confiável, tanto para o diagnóstico de parasitos quanto para a determinação do OPG em fezes de suínos, devido ao maior tamanho das suas câmaras de contagem, situação que acaba aumentando a eficiência da recuperação dos ovos dos helmintos.

ABSTRACT: The study aimed to describe the clinicopathological aspects of 37 cases of pythiosis, 34 in horses and three in mules, from properties located in the Amazon biome of Pará, Brazil. The clinical signs observed in the animals were weakness, poor-to-regular nutritional status, pale mucous membranes, itching at the lesion site, and lameness when the limbs were affected. The lesions were located on the lips, nostrils, rib region, thoracic and abdominal walls, scapular, distal limbs, foreskin, perineum and udder. Macroscopically, ulcerative and granulation-tissue-like masses were observed, with fistulous tracts filled with yellowish and foul-smelling serosanguinous discharges. In the biopsy, it was possible to visualize white and firm areas with foci of yellowish necrotic material and hardened masses, called kunkers. The histopathological examination showed a pyogranulomatous inflammatory reaction with the presence of Pythium insidiosum hyphae, which were impregnated with black, confirming the diagnosis of pythiosis in equids in the Amazon biome, being the first report of the disease in mules in the region.

RESUMO: O trabalho objetivou descrever os aspectos clínico-patológicos de 37 casos suspeitos de pitiose, 34 em equinos e três em muares, provenientes de propriedades localizadas no Pará, bioma amazônico brasileiro. Os sinais clínicos observados nos animais eram caracterizados por debilidade, estado nutricional de ruim a regular, mucosas pálidas, prurido no local da lesão, além de claudicação quando os membros foram acometidos. As lesões eram localizadas nos lábios, narinas, região das costelas, parede torácica e abdominal, escapular, distais dos membros, prepúcio, períneo e úbere. Macroscopicamente observavam-se extensas lesões ulceradas com intensa proliferação de tecido de granulação, de bordos irregulares, com tratos fistulosos, de consistência firme, denominados de “kunkers”, preenchidos com material amarelado e friável, possuindo exsudação serossanguinolenta de odor fétido. Ao exame histopatológico observou-se reação inflamatória piogranulomatosa com presença de hifas de Pythium insidiosum, as quais se impregnaram de negro, confirmando o diagnóstico de pitiose em equídeos no Bioma Amazônico, sendo o primeiro relato da doença em muares na região.

ABSTRACT Purpose To compare the results of fluency and self-perception of the impact of stuttering on the lives of adults who stutter, before and after undergoing intensive speech-language pathology therapy. Methods This is a descriptive and longitudinal study with data collection before and after intensive therapy in four patients who stutter. The intensive care program consisted of thirty one-hour sessions held in five individual sessions a week. Speech samples collected before and after therapy were analyzed by two fluency experts. Descriptive data analysis was performed through the frequency distribution of categorical variables and analysis of measures of central tendency and dispersion of continuous variables. The verification of agreement between the evaluations carried out by the two judges was performed using the intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC). Correlation analysis was also performed using Spearman's rank correlation coefficient between the variables in the speech sample and the OASES-A scores. Results There was a reduction of the percentage of stuttering disfluencies, increasing the flow of words per minute of the participants. The descriptive analysis of the OASES-A showed a decrease in the degree of impact of stuttering on the participants' lives in all parts of the questionnaire. Conclusion There was an improvement in all variables analyzed after intensive care, including an improvement in speech fluency and a reduction in the impact of stuttering on the participants' lives, which suggests the relevance of the intensive speech therapy proposal for stuttering.

RESUMO Objetivo Comparar os resultados da fluência e da autopercepção do impacto da gagueira na vida de adultos que gaguejam, antes e depois de terapia fonoaudiológica intensiva. Método Trata-se de estudo descritivo longitudinal com coleta de dados antes e após terapia fonoaudiológica intensiva de quatro pacientes com gagueira. O programa de terapia intensiva constituiu-se em trinta encontros, de uma hora cada, realizados em cinco sessões individuais na semana. As amostras de fala coletadas antes e após a terapia foram analisadas por dois juízes especialistas em Fluência. A análise descritiva dos dados foi realizada por meio da distribuição de frequência das variáveis categóricas e análise das medidas de tendência central e de dispersão das variáveis contínuas. A verificação da concordância entre as análises realizadas pelos dois juízes foi realizada por meio do coeficiente de correlação intraclasse (CCI). Foi realizada também a análise de correlação pelo coeficiente de correlação de Spearman, entre as variáveis da amostra de fala e os escores do OASES-A. Resultados Houve redução do percentual de descontinuidade da fala e do percentual de disfluências gagas, aumentando o fluxo de palavras por minuto dos participantes. Na análise descritiva do OASES-A observou-se que em todas as partes do questionário, houve diminuição do grau de impacto da gagueira na vida dos participantes. Conclusão Verificou-se melhora de todas variáveis analisadas após terapia intensiva. Observou-se melhora na fluência da fala e redução do impacto da gagueira na vida dos participantes, sugerindo a relevância da proposta de terapia fonoaudiológica intensiva na gagueira.

Abstract Background Atherosclerosis risk factors can have different impacts on cardiovascular diseases and on the anatomical distribution of Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD). Objectives To study the influence of atherosclerosis risk factors on the anatomical distribution of PAD in patients with chronic limb-threatening ischemia (CLTI). Methods We performed an observational, cross-sectional, and analytical study that included 476 hospitalized patients with CLTI due to PAD. We compared the presence of atherosclerosis risk factors (age, gender, diabetes mellitus, smoking, and hypertension) in patients with PAD involving three different anatomic areas (aortoiliac, femoropopliteal, and infrapopliteal). Multivariate analysis was performed to identify associations between atherosclerosis risk factors and PAD distribution. Results The mean age of the 476 patients was 69 years, 249 (52%) were men, and 273 (57%) had diabetes. Seventy-four percent (353) had minor tissue loss. Multivariate analysis identified three risk factors associated with PAD anatomical distribution (gender, smoking, and DM). Women had a 2.7 (CI: 1.75-4.26) times greater chance of having femoropopliteal disease. Smokers had a 3.6-fold (CI: 1.54-8.30) greater risk of aortoiliac disease. Diabetic patients were 1.8 (CI: 1.04-3.19) times more likely to have isolated infrapopliteal occlusive disease. Conclusions The study showed that gender, DM, and smoking impact on the anatomical distribution of PAD in patients with CLTI. Diabetic patients were more likely to have only infrapopliteal disease, women had a greater risk of femoropopliteal PAD, and smokers had a greater risk of aortoiliac occlusive disease.

Resumo Contexto Os fatores de risco para aterosclerose podem ter influência distinta nas doenças cardiovasculares, impactando também no território da doença arterial periférica (DAP). Objetivos Estudar a influência dos diferentes fatores de risco para a aterosclerose na distribuição anatômica da DAP em pacientes com isquemia crítica crônica de membros (ICCM). Métodos Foi realizado um estudo observacional, transversal e analítico, incluindo 476 doentes internados devido à ICCM por DAP. Foram estudados, comparativamente, os pacientes com DAP dos três distintos territórios anatômicos (aortoilíaco, femoropoplíteo e infragenicular) em relação à presença dos fatores de risco para a aterosclerose (idade, gênero, diabetes mellitus, tabagismo e hipertensão arterial). A análise multivariada foi realizada para testar a associação entre os fatores de risco e a distribuição anatômica da DAP. Resultados A média de idade dos pacientes foi de 69 anos, 249 (52%) eram homens, e 273 (57%), diabéticos. Predominaram os pacientes na Categoria 5 da Classificação de Rutherford (353/74%). Na análise multivariada, as mulheres tiveram chance 2,7 (IC: 1,75-4,26) vezes maior de doença do território femoropoplíteo. Os doentes tabagistas tiveram 3,6 (IC: 1,54-8,30) vezes maior risco de doença do território aortoilíaco. Diabéticos apresentaram 1,8 (IC: 1,04-3,19) vezes maior chance de obstrução apenas do território infragenicular. Conclusões O estudo mostrou que gênero, diabetes mellitus e tabagismo influenciam no padrão de distribuição da DAP em pacientes com ICCM. Os doentes diabéticos apresentaram maior chance de doença isolada do território infragenicular, as mulheres tiveram maior risco de DAP do território femoropoplíteo e os tabagistas possuem maior chance comprometimento aortoilíaco.

Abstract Objective: to investigate the association between depressive symptoms and physical inactivity in technical-administrative workers from a public university in the Northeast of Brazil. Methods: cross-sectional study. We assessed depressive symptoms and physical activity using, respectively, the Patient Health Questionnaire-9, and the International Physical Activity Questionnaire. We used Poisson regression analysis, and estimated the prevalence ratios (PR) and their respective 95%CI. Results: 301 workers participated, of which 71.1% were female. The prevalence of depressive symptoms was of 25.7%, and 52.0% of the workers declared being physically inactive. Depressive symptoms and physical inactivity were associated to the effect modifiers “time worked to the institution ≤ 15 years” (PR: 3.03; 95%CI: 1.05;9.16) e “work position at administrative sectors” (PR: 1.90; 95%CI: 1.14;3.18). Conclusion: the results evidence the association between depressive symptoms and physical inactivity in technical-administrative workers of a public university of the state of Bahia. The the main factor associated are time worked to the institution and work position at administrative sectors.

Resumo Objetivo: investigar a associação entre sintomas depressivos e inatividade física em trabalhadores técnico-administrativos de uma universidade pública do Nordeste do Brasil. Métodos: estudo transversal realizado no estado da Bahia. Os sintomas depressivos foram avaliados pelo Patient Health Questionnaire-9 e o nível de atividade física pelo International Physical Activity Questionnaire. Foi realizada análise de regressão de Poisson e estimadas as razões de prevalência (RP) e seus respectivos IC95%. Resultados: 301 servidores participaram do estudo, dos quais 71,1% do sexo feminino. A prevalência de sintomas depressivos foi de 25,7% e 52,0% dos servidores declararam ser fisicamente inativos. Sintomas depressivos e inatividade física se mostraram associados com os modificadores de efeito “tempo de trabalho na instituição ≤ 15 anos” (RP: 3,03; IC95%: 1,05;9,16) e “lotação em setores administrativos” (RP: 1,90; IC95%: 1,14;3,18). Conclusão: os resultados evidenciam a associação entre sintomas depressivos e inatividade física em trabalhadores técnico-administrativos de uma universidade pública do estado da Bahia, tendo como principais fatores associados o tempo de trabalho na instituição e a lotação do servidor.

Abstract This article addresses the theme male chauvinism from the results of descriptive statistical analysis arising from the study "Violence in the University Population". For this, it was used as method the application of the instrument IV-SOPRA (Index of Violence Suffered and Practiced) among students (n=510) of a public university in the south of the country. With this, our general objective is to present partial results of descriptive statistical analyses produced in the scope of this project and to reflect on the subjectivities behind these data. The descriptive statistical analyses about machismo were carried out from the viewpoint of the spectator, the perpetrator, and the victim of machista manifestations, which raised different reflections. Beyond the numbers we seek to understand the concept of machismo. We believe that this paper is a great opportunity to discuss the university context that, besides being a reproducer of social behavior, needs to be a space that constructs new perspectives and new concepts that work towards a more just and egalitarian society.

Resumen: Este artículo aborda el tema del machismo a partir de los resultados del análisis estadístico descriptivo derivado del estudio "La violencia en la población universitaria". Para ello, se utilizó como método la aplicación del instrumento IV-SOPRA (Índice de Violencia Sufrida y Practicada) entre estudiantes (n=510) de una universidad pública del sur del país. Con ello, nuestro objetivo general es presentar los resultados parciales de los análisis estadísticos descriptivos elaborados en el ámbito de este proyecto y reflexionar sobre las subjetividades que hay detrás de estos datos. Los análisis estadísticos descriptivos sobre el machismo se realizaron desde el punto de vista del espectador, del victimario y de la víctima de las manifestaciones machistas, que plantean diferentes reflexiones. Más allá de los números buscamos entender lo concepto de machismo. Creemos que este texto es una gran oportunidad para discutir el contexto universitario que, además de ser un reproductor de comportamientos sociales, necesita ser un espacio que construya nuevas perspectivas y nuevos conceptos que trabajen por una sociedad más justa e igualitaria.

Resumo: O presente artigo aborda a temática machismo a partir dos resultados das análises estatísticas descritivas oriundas do estudo “A Violência na População Universitária”. Para tanto, foi utilizado como método a aplicação do instrumento IV-SOPRA (Index de Violência Sofrida e Praticada) entre estudantes (n=510) de uma universidade pública do sul do país. As análises estatísticas descritivas sobre o machismo foram realizadas a partir do ponto de vista do espectador, do perpetrador e da vítima de manifestações machistas, o que suscitou diferentes reflexões. Para além dos números buscamos compreender o conceito de machismo. Acreditamos neste texto como uma ótima oportunidade de discutir o contexto universitário que, para além de um reprodutor do comportamento social, precisa ser um espaço construtor de novas óticas e novos conceitos que trabalhem em prol de uma sociedade mais justa e igualitária.

ABSTRACT Changes in soil management, for example by more vigorous crops, adoption of conservation tillage and optimization of fertilization, can increase soil organic carbon (SOC) and total nitrogen (TN) stocks. We hypothesized that corn - black oat rotation under no-tillage (NT) and adequate soil fertilization can increase these stocks, compared to conventional tillage (CT). This study compared these two tillage methods and organic with mineral fertilizers, regarding their effects on C and N cycling and SOC and TN stocks in a Rhodic Nitisol in southern Brazil. The study started in 2012, in a pasture area, which was converted into corn (Zea mays L.) - black oat (Avena strigosa Scherb.) rotation. The treatments were applied in a 2 × 5 factorial arrangement, consisting of two soil tillage methods (NT and CT) and five fertilizers (pig slurry (PS); biodigested PS (PS-B); composted PS (PS-C); mineral fertilizer; and a control). From 2019 onwards, treatment PS-B was replaced by injected PS (PS-I) and PS-C by poultry litter (PL). A randomized block design was used in a split-plot arrangement, where the plots corresponded to soil tillage and subplots to fertilization. In every year of the study, corn was fertilized with 140 kg N ha-1 and at least 115 kg P2O5 ha-1 and 77 kg K2O ha-1. Total SOC and TN stocks were determined in six soil layers (0.00-0.05, 0.05-0.10, 0.10-0.20, 0.20-0.30, 0.30-0.40 and 0.40-0.60 m) whereas the soil particulate (POC and PN) and mineral-associated (MAOC and MAN) fractions were evaluated in the four upper layers (0.00-0.05, 0.05-0.10, 0.10-0.20, 0.20-0.30m) at the beginning of the study (2012) and after nine years (2021). The cumulative values under NT showed that SOC stocks nearly doubled, compared to those under CT. These increases occurred in the most labile POC and PN fractions. However, no difference in response to the different fertilizers was observed in these stocks. The studied factors indicated a marked effect of soil tillage on alterations in C and N stocks. No-tillage increases SOC and TN stocks, mainly in the most labile fractions (POC and PN) of Rhodic Nitisols in southern Brazil, under corn - black oat rotation.

Abstract The Santos Basin (SB) is the main petroliferous basin in the Brazilian continental margin and one of the most studied marine areas in Brazil. However, historical data suggest that new efforts should be carried out to acquire quantitative biological data, especially in the deep sea, to establish the baseline of essential ocean variables in different ecosystems for future monitoring programs. The Brazilian energy company Petrobras planned and executed 24 oceanographic cruises over a period of 2 years to assess the benthic (SANSED cruise) and pelagic (SANAGU cruise) systems of the SB (356 days at sea in 2019 and 2021/2022). These efforts were part of the Santos Project, which comprised a comprehensive environmental study aimed at investigating benthic and pelagic variables to characterize ecology, biogeochemistry, thermohaline properties of water masses, and ocean circulation patterns, geomorphology, and sedimentology, as well as organic and inorganic chemistry. Here we present the detailed sampling designs and the field methods employed on board, during the SB scientific cruises. All sampling protocols were based on standardized approaches. For the benthos analyses, triplicate sediment samples were performed using a GOMEX-type box corer (0.25 m²) or a large modified Van Veen grab (0.75 m²) at 100 stations ranging from 25 to 2400 m depth. At each station, 25 geochemical and physico-chemical parameters were analyzed in addition to micro-, meio-, and macrofauna and living foraminifera samples. For the pelagic system, 60 stations were selected to investigate the plankton community, ranging in size from pico- to macroplankton, through vertical, horizontal, and oblique net hauls (20, 200, and 500 μm mesh size), as well as 25 biogeochemical parameters collected with an aid of a CTD-rosette sampler. Part of this scientific information also serves the Regional Environmental Characterization Project (PCR-BS) in support of Petrobras’ Santos Basin drilling licensing process led by the Brazilian Environmental Agency – IBAMA. This project contributes to the sustainable development of the SB, in line with the guidelines of the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development.

Abstract The objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of the presence of 2NVS translocation on the inheritance of wheat resistance to head blast, in F2 segregating lines from two biparental crosses. The IPF 86766 and 'Santa Fe' genotypes were used as female parents (both 2NVS carriers), and 'BRS 404', as the common male parent (non 2NVS carrier). Using a mixture of three isolates of Pyricularia oryzae Triticum, wheat spikes and rachises were evaluated for bleaching severity at five (%BS_5dpi) and seven days post-inoculation (%BS_7dpi), as well as for the number of infection points (IPR) and pathogen sporulation (SPO). Chi-square analyses showed that segregation follows a 3:1 Mendelian hypothesis, with a major locus with a dominant allele: %BS_7dpi for IPF 86766 × 'BRS 404' and IPR for 'Santa Fe' x 'BRS 404'. Therefore, this is the first known study to show that the 2NVS translocation responsible for resistance to head blast is a major locus with a dominant allele. In a controlled environment, 'BRS 404' shows bleaching severity and SPO similar with those occurring on IPF 86766 and 'Santa Fe'.

Resumo O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o efeito da presença da translocação 2NVS sobre a herança da resistência de trigo à brusone, em linhagens segregantes F2 de dois cruzamentos biparentais. Os genótipos IPF 86766 e 'Santa Fe' foram usados como genitores femininos (ambos portadores d a 2NVS), e 'BRS 404', como genitor masculino comum (não por tador da 2NVS ). A partir da mistura de três isolados de Pyricularia oryzae Triticum, espigas e ráquis de trigo foram avaliadas quanto à severidade de branqueamento aos cinco (%BS_5dpi) e aos 7 dias após inoculação (%BS_7dpi), bem como quanto ao número de pontos de infecção (IPR) e à esporulação do patógeno (SPO). Análises de qui-quadrado mostraram que a segregação segue a hipótese mendeliana 3:1, com um loco de efeito maior, com alelo dominante: %BS_7dpi para IPF 86766 × 'BRS 404' e IPR para 'Santa Fe' × 'BRS 404'. Portanto, este é o primeiro estudo conhecido a mostrar que a translocação 2NVS responsável pela resistência à brusone de trigo é um loco principal com um alelo dominante. Em condições controladas de ambiente, 'BRS 404' apresenta severidade de branqueamento e SPO similares às que ocorrem em IPF 86766 e 'Santa Fe'.
