Abstract Background: Arboviral diseases are a group of infectious diseases caused by viruses transmitted by arthropods, mainly mosquitoes. These diseases, such as those caused by the dengue (DENV), Zika (ZIKV), chikungunya (CHIKV), and yellow fever (YFV) viruses, have a significant impact worldwide. In this context, entomological surveillance plays a crucial role in the control and prevention of arboviruses by providing essential information on the presence, distribution, and activity of vector mosquitoes. Based on entomological surveillance, transovarian transmission provides information regarding the maintenance and dissemination of arboviruses. The objective of this study was to detect these arboviruses in Goiânia, Goiás, and analyze the occurrence of transovarian transmission. Methods: Aedes aegypti eggs were collected from different regions of Goiânia and cultivated under controlled laboratory conditions until the emergence of adult mosquitoes. Adult females were grouped into pools containing their heads and thoraxes. These pools were subsequently evaluated using reverse-transcription quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) assay. Results: A total of 157 pools (N=1570) were analyzed, with two pools testing positive for CHIKV and one pool testing positive for ZIKV, indicating that the offspring resulting from transovarian transmission are potentially infectious. Conclusions: In summary, the demonstration of the vertical transmission mechanisms of CHIKV and ZIKV in A. aegypti serves as an alert to health authorities, as these diseases are still underreported, and their primary urban vector has likely acquired this capacity, contributing to the dissemination of these infections. ABSTRACT Purpose: Bacterial cellulose (BC) has shown high capacity for the treatment of wounds and burns, providing a moisty environment. Calcium alginate can be associated with BC to create gels that aid in wound debridement and contribute to appropriate wound healing. This study is aimed at characterizing and evaluating the use of bacterial cellulose/alginate gel in skin burns in rats. Methods: Cellulose and cellulose/alginate gels were compared regarding the capacity of liquid absorption, moisture, viscosity, and potential cytotoxicity. The 2nd degree burns were produced using an aluminum metal plate (2.0cm) at 120ºC for 20s on the back of rats. The animals were divided into non-treated, CMC(Carboxymethylcellulose), Cellulose(CMC with bacterial cellulose), and Cellulose/alginate(CMC with bacterial cellulose and alginate). The animals received topical treatment 3 times/week. Biochemical (MPO, NAG and oxidative stress), histomorphometry and immunohistochemical assays (IL-1β IL-10 and VEGF) were conducted on the 14th, 21st, 28th, and 35th days. Results: Cellulose/Alginate gel showed higher absorption capacity and viscosity compared to Cellulose gel, with no cytotoxic effects. Cellulose/alginate presented lower MPO values, a higher percentage of IL-10, with greater and balanced oxidative stress profile. Conclusions: The use of cellulose/alginate gel reduced neutrophils and macrophage activation and showed greater anti-inflammatory response, which can contribute to healing chronic wounds and burns. El objetivo de este estudio fue investigar si los factores de cultura organizacional y rasgos de personalidad de los gerentes de compras contribuyen a la colaboración con los proveedores en la cadena de suministro. Se utilizó el framework Behavioral Operations Management con elementos de las áreas de comportamiento organizacional y red de suministro. Las unidades de análisis fueron las relaciones en la cadena de suministro y las unidades de observación fueron los gerentes de compras ubicados en el estado de Minas Gerais. Se aplicó un cuestionario electrónico autoadministrado basado en instrumentos publicados en la literatura. Para el análisis de los datos se utilizó el Modelado de Ecuaciones Estructurales. Los resultados denotan que el individuo provoca un impacto conductual favorable para la colaboración en la red de abastecimiento según sus rasgos de personalidad y se presenta como un elemento replicador de la cultura organizacional en sus relaciones con los proveedores que implican para la colaboración en la red de abastecimiento. Además, se indica que la selección del gerente de compras se guía por los rasgos de personalidad, evaluando y considerando la presencia de la dimensión apertura y la ausencia de neuroticismo como factores en la elección del candidato. The objective of this study was to investigate the factors of organizational culture and personality traits of purchasing managers for collaboration with suppliers in the supply chain. The Behavioral Operations Management framework was used together with elements from the organizational behavior and supply network areas. The analysis units were the relationships within the supply network, and the observation units were the purchasing managers located in the state of Minas Gerais. An electronic questionnaire was conducted, self-administered, and based on instruments disseminated in the literature. For data analysis, Structural Equation Modeling was used. Abstract The industries that have polymers as an important raw material in their production, such as the construction, automotive, electrical and electronic sectors, always seek innovations to cut costs, reduce weight, easiness of processing, maximizing mechanical properties, and recyclability. In this context, this work presents the study of the kinetic parameters and viscoelastic behavior of a new thermoplastic system initially liquid. Through differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) analysis, Brookfield viscosimetry; dynamic-mechanical analysis (DMA) and mathematical modeling with consolidated and standardized methods, it was possible to evaluate the polymerization kinetics and viscoelastic behavior of the material in solutions with different concentrations. The generated equations allow the prediction of the kinetic and gelation behavior of the material reducing the need for laboratory tests to determine polymer properties. Abstract Background Major advances have been seen in techniques and devices for performing percutaneous coronary interventions (PCIs) for chronic total occlusions (CTOs), but there are limited real-world practice data from developing countries. Objectives To report clinical and angiographic characteristics, procedural aspects, and clinical outcomes of CTO PCI performed at dedicated centers in Brazil. Methods Included patients underwent CTO PCI at centers participating in the LATAM CTO Registry, a Latin American multicenter registry dedicated to prospective collection of these data. Inclusion criteria were procedures performed in Brazil, age 18 years or over, and presence of CTO with PCI attempt. CTO was defined as a 100% lesion in an epicardial coronary artery, known or estimated to have lasted at least 3 months. Results Data on 1196 CTO PCIs were included. Procedures were performed primarily for angina control (85%) and/or treatment of moderate/severe ischemia (24%). Technical success rate was 84%, being achieved with antegrade wire approaches in 81% of procedures, antegrade dissection and re-entry in 9%, and retrograde approaches in 10%. In-hospital adverse cardiovascular events occurred in 2.3% of cases, with a mortality rate of 0.75%. Conclusions CTOs can be treated effectively in Brazil by using PCI, with low complication rates. Resumo Fundamento Tem sido observado um grande avanço nas técnicas e nos dispositivos para a realização de intervenções coronárias percutâneas (ICP) em oclusões totais coronarianas crônicas (OTC), mas existem poucos dados da prática do mundo real em países em desenvolvimento. Objetivos Relatar as características clínicas e angiográficas, os aspectos dos procedimentos e os resultados clínicos da ICP de OTC em centros dedicados a esse procedimento no Brasil. Métodos Os pacientes incluídos foram submetidos à ICP de OTC em centros participantes do LATAM CTO Registry, um registro multicêntrico latino-americano dedicado à coleta prospectiva desses dados. Os critérios de inclusão foram procedimentos realizados no Brasil, idade acima de 18 anos e presença de OTC com tentativa de ICP. A definição de OTC foi lesão de 100% em uma artéria coronária epicárdica, conhecida ou estimada como tendo pelo menos 3 meses de evolução. Resultados Foram incluídos dados de 1.196 ICPs de OTC. Os procedimentos foram realizados principalmente para controle da angina (85%) e/ou tratamento de uma grande área isquêmica (24%). A taxa de sucesso técnico foi de 84% e foi alcançada com técnicas de fios anterógrados em 81%, dissecção/reentrada anterógrada em 9% e retrógrada em 10% dos procedimentos. Os eventos cardiovasculares adversos intra-hospitalares ocorreram em 2,3% dos casos, sendo a mortalidade de 0,75%. Abstract The aim of this article is to analyze the Regional Climate Model Eta precipitation projections for the São Francisco (SF) and Paraíba do Sul (PS) River basins, Brazi. For that, the dynamic downscaling response was discussed in comparison with the CMIP5 models and, in particular, with the models HadGEM2-ES and MIROC5 to future climate horizon 2011 to 2040 in two scenarios of the fifth report from Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change: RCP4.5 and RCP8.5. The results indicate that the Eta model nested in the global models adequately represented the precipitation simulations for the present climate. As for the evaluation of the representation of climate projections, the Eta projections disagreed on the sign of change with their forcing GCMs and other CMIP5 models in the analyzed basins, amplifying the drier signal. Precipitation reductions were pointed out for the two basins and with greater intensity in the RCP8.5 scenario, ranging up to -20% (SF) and 15% (PS) by the CMIP5 models and up to almost -40% for the Eta-HadGEM2-ES and Eta MIROC5 (SF and PS). Resumo O objetivo deste artigo é analisar as projeções de precipitação do modelo climático regional Eta para as bacias dos rios São Francisco (SF) e Paraíba do Sul (PS), Brasil. Para tanto, a resposta dinâmica da redução de escala foi discutida em comparação com os modelos CMIP5 e, em particular, com os modelos HadGEM2-ES e MIROC5 para o horizonte climático futuro de 2011 a 2040 em dois cenários do quinto relatório do Painel Intergovernamental sobre Mudanças Climáticas: RCP4.5 e RCP8.5. Os resultados indicam que o modelo Eta aninhado aos modelos globais representou adequadamente as simulações de precipitação para o clima presente. Quanto a avaliação da representação das projeções climáticas, as projeções Eta discordaram no sinal de mudança com seus forçantes GCMs e outros modelos CMIP5 nas bacias analisadas, amplificando o sinal mais seco. ABSTRACT Background: The Amazon rainforest plays an essential role in sheltering global biodiversity and providing essential ecosystem services. However, the region has been threatened by increased rates of deforestation and degradation, which is often reported as the failure of the Brazilian conservation policy that could affect the image of agriculture Brazilian products abroad. In this sense, here we aimed to evaluate the foreign environmental perception of the region using data from social medias, to assess which are the main terms related to the region, how their importance varies over time and whether this perception tends to be more negative or positive. For this, we used data from posts made on Twitter® involving the term “Amazon rainforest” over 18 weeks using a data mining process. From these posts, we extracted the text, which went through steps of cleaning and organization, as well as crossing with additional databases (such as the sentiment dictionary). From the final data set, we first evaluated which are the main terms present in these posts and how their importance varied in the evaluated period. Next, we assess whether the terms cited are mainly negative or positive and how this sentiment varied over the monitoring period. Results: We found that the main terms are related to the environmental context such as “carbon”, “deforestation” and “fire” and that there is a relationship between their importance and the occurrence of fires in the region, which is positive with a temporal lag. In addition, we also found that the posts are, on average, composed of 68.47% of negative terms and that this sentiment predominates throughout the entire time series, being higher during the fire peaks in the region. Conclusion: Our results indicate that the environmental perception of the region presented in the posts in Twitter® is mainly negative, due to the degradation and fires observed over the last few years. We also discuss limitations of the approach and establish perspectives for future work. Resumo Este estudo avaliou o efeito da terapia fotodinâmica (PDT) em canais radiculares infectados com E. faecalis. Vinte e um dentes humanos extraídos foram selecionados, e 18 foram infectados por E. faecalis por 60 dias. As estratégias antimicrobianas testadas foram: G1. Preparo do canal radicular (PCR) com instrumentos rotatórios de NiTi, NaOCl 2,5% e irrigação final com EDTA 17%, seguido de PDT com fotossensibilizador azul de metileno e laser diodo de baixa potência; G2. PCR usando limas de aço inoxidável e os mesmos protocolos de irrigação e PDT do G1; G3. Protocolo de PCR similar que G1 sem PDT; G4. Somente irrigação com NaOCl 2,5%; G5. Protocolo similar ao G1, sem PCR; G6. Controle negativo; G7. Controle positivo. Amostras para exames microbiológicos foram coletadas inicialmente (S1), após PCR (S2) e após PDT (S3). Na sequência, as raízes foram seccionadas e preparadas para análise em microscopia eletrônica de varredura (MEV). O crescimento bacteriano foi analisado de acordo com a turbidez do meio de cultura seguida pela densidade óptica espectrofotométrica (nm). O efeito da PDT na estrutura dentinária foi avaliado em aumentos de 1.600X e 5.000X, e descrito qualitativamente. O teste de Wilcoxon foi utilizado para as comparações dos mesmos espécimes e o teste de Mann-Whitney para as comparações entre os grupos ((=5%). Bactérias foram encontradas em todos os grupos experimentais, e em todas as coletas microbiológicas (S1, S2 e S3). A densidade óptica dos meios de cultura foi menor em S2 do que em S1 de G1, 2, 3 e 4 (p>0,05). Após a PDT (S3) em G1 e 2, houve redução adicional na densidade óptica do meio de cultura de 90,0% e 92,0%, respectivamente (p>0,05). No Grupo 5, a análise dos meios de cultura em S2 revelou um aumento de 3,2% na densidade óptica em comparação com S1(p>0,05). Nas imagens de MEV do G1, 2 e 5 foram evidenciadas dentina com áreas de fusão e recristalização. O PDT utilizado após preparo do canal radicular com sistema rotatório ou manual, associado ao NaOCl 2,5%, não foi capaz de eliminar completamente o E. faecalis em biofilme maduro presente no canal radicular.

Abstract This study evaluated the effect of photodynamic therapy (PDT) on infected root canals. Twenty-one human teeth were selected, and 18 were infected by E. faecalis for 60 days. The antimicrobial strategies tested were: G1. Root canal preparation (RCP) using Niquel-Titanium (NiTi) rotary instruments, 2.5% NaOCl, and final irrigation with 17% EDTA, followed by PDT with methylene blue photosensitizer and laser diode low power; G2. RCP using stainless steel files and the same irrigation and PDT protocols as G1; G3. Same RCP protocol as G1 without PDT; G4. Only irrigation with 2.5% NaOCl; G5. Same PDT protocol as G1 without RCP; G6. Negative control; G7. Positive control. Samples for microbiological tests were collected initially (S1), after RCP (S2), and after PDT (S3). Subsequently, the roots were sectioned and prepared for Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) analysis. Bacterial growth was analyzed according to the turbidity of the culture medium, followed by spectrophotometric optical density (nm). The effect of PDT on the dentinal structure was evaluated at magnifications 1,600X and 5,000X and described qualitatively. The Wilcoxon test was used for the comparisons from the same specimens, and the Mann-Whitney test was used to compare groups ((=5%). Bacteria were found in all experimental groups’ microbiological samples (S1, S2 and S3). The optical density of culture media was lower in S2 than in S1 of G1, 2, 3, and 4 (p> 0.05). After PDT (S3) in G1 and 2, there was an additional reduction in optical density of the culture medium, respectively (p>0.05). In Group 5, the analysis of culture media at S2 revealed an increase in optical density compared to S1(p>0.05). In SEM images of G1, 2, and 5, dentin with melting and recrystallization areas were evidenced. After preparation of the root canal with the rotary system or manually associated with 2.5% NaOCl, PDT was not able to completely eliminate E. faecalis present in the root canal.

ABSTRACT Altitudinal migration in birds comprises seasonal movements between breeding and non-breeding areas in mountainous regions, attributed to biotic and abiotic factors. Different authors have suggested the existence of altitudinal migration between high and low areas of the mountains of the Atlantic Forest, with movement from high to low during the winter when birds would be fleeing the cold and in search of food, but there is no documented evidence. Through recaptures of understory birds, we investigated possible altitudinal migration in a region of the Atlantic Forest in Southeast Brazil. Twenty mist-nets were set at four locations between 15 and 729 m a.s.l. during 143 days of field work, distributed over 54 months and covering all seasons of the year. A total of 1946 birds (98 species) were captured/banded with 558 being recaptured (28.6%; 45 species). However, only 42 of the recaptures were at a different elevation. Most of the movements were of short distances and performed only once by birds, showing no seasonal pattern. These movements may be better interpreted as daily movements undertaken by birds of mixed-species flocks looking for food or moving around their respective home-ranges. Our results show that mist-nets may not be an effective tool in detecting altitudinal movements of birds and that other methods should be evaluated for this purpose.

RESUMO Contexto: estudos argumentam que níveis de dependência similares são essenciais para a satisfação do fornecedor nas relações comprador-fornecedor. Contudo, relações assimétricas também podem levar à satisfação do fornecedor. Objetivo: este artigo investiga quais os efeitos da dependência baseada em benefícios (motivações positivas para manter relacionamentos) entre comprador e fornecedor e a satisfação do fornecedor. Métodos: utilizou-se a análise de superfície de resposta (ASR) para testar a relação entre as dimensões da dependência e da satisfação do operador logístico (OL) em 174 díades. Resultados: os resultados demonstram que com relação à satisfação do fornecedor, não é tanto a assimetria de dependência que importa, mas sim o grau de dependência entre as partes. Quanto mais dependente uma parte for da outra, normalmente, maior será a satisfação do fornecedor. Certo grau de dependência é aceitável e, em muitas circunstâncias, necessário para se ter acesso a recursos e oportunidades. Conclusões: a interação entre a dependência do comprador e do fornecedor e a satisfação do fornecedor é complexa. Situações de ocorrência de assimetria de dependência em que o fornecedor é altamente dependente do comprador, ainda assim, podem ser satisfatórias para os fornecedores. .

ABSTRACT Context: studies argue that similar levels of dependence are essential for supplier satisfaction in buyer-supplier relationships. However, asymmetric relationships can also lead to supplier satisfaction. Objective: this paper investigates the effects of benefit-based dependence (positive motivations for maintaining relationships) between buyer and supplier and supplier satisfaction. Methods: response surface analysis (RSA) was used to test the relationship between third-party logistics (3PL) dependence and satisfaction dimensions in 174 dyads. Results: the results demonstrated that about supplier satisfaction, instead of dependence asymmetry what really matters is the degree of dependence between the parties. The more dependent one part is on the other, usually, the greater the supplier’s satisfaction. In many circumstances, a degree of dependence is acceptable and necessary to access resources and opportunities. Conclusions: the interaction between buyer and supplier dependence and supplier satisfaction is complex. Situations of dependence asymmetry in which the supplier is highly dependent on the buyer may still be satisfactory.

Resumo Este trabalho teve como objetivo avaliar a variabilidade espaço-temporal do índice Padronizado de Precipitação (SPI), de forma a identificar períodos de escassez/excesso hídrica (o) na Sub-Bacia Choró no Estado do Ceará. Para tanto, trabalhou-se com uma série histórica de dados pluviométricos para o período de 1974 a 2018 e com o SPI nas escalas de 3, 6, 12 e 24 meses. Uma acentuada variabilidade interanual foi observada, apontando de 2012-2018 a maior ocorrência de eventos secos, sendo estes melhor representados, nas escalas interanuais, em intensidade e duração quando comparado com as escalas (intras)sazonais. Também constatou-se que os períodos contendo os eventos secos (chuvosos) de maior intensidade, apresentados nas escalas 3, 6 e 12 meses do SPI, coincidiram, na maioria dos casos, com períodos de El Niño Oscilação Sul e La Niña. Em suma, o SPI se mostrou uma ferramenta poderosa ao quantificar os eventos secos e chuvosos na Sub-Bacia Choró, podendo ser útil no monitoramento do déficit hídrico em escalas temporais de curto, médio e longo prazo.

Abstract This work has as objective to evaluate the spatiotemporal variability of the Standardized Index of Precipitation (SPI), in order to identify periods of water scarcity/excess in the Choró Sub-Basin in the State of Ceará. For this purpose, we worked with the historical series of rainfall data for the period from 1974 to 2018 and with the SPI on scales of 3, 6, 12, and 24 months. A pronounced inter-annual variability was observed, pointing out from 2012-2018 the highest occurrence of dry events, being these better represented, in the inter-annual scales, in intensity and duration when compared to the intras-seasonal scales. It was also found that the periods containing the most intense dry (rainy) events, presented on the scales 3, 6, and 12 months of SPI, coincided in most cases with periods of El Niño Oscilação Sul and La Niña. In short, SPI proved to be a powerful tool when quantifying dry and rainy events in the Choró Sub-Basin and can be useful in monitoring the water deficit, in short, medium, and long term time scales.
