ABSTRACT Objective: To report on the experience of nurses from the Street Clinic in caring for the Indigenous Venezuelan population of the Warao ethnic group in Maceió/AL based on Madeleine Leininger’s Transcultural Theory. Metodology: A descriptive study, of the experience report type, based on the care of the Warao Indigenous population in the light of Madeleine Leininger’s Transcultural Theory, carried out during the year 2022. Results: Light technologies were used to form bonds and understand the cultural universe of the Warao people. The concepts of preservation, accommodation and cultural restructuring of care from Leininger’s transcultural theory helped to elucidate the practice. Comprehensive care was offered in accordance with the programs recommended by the Ministry of Health, with transcultural care, including respect for refusal of care. The language barrier and health beliefs represented challenges in the context of singular care. Final considerations: The experience of nurses from the Street Clinic in caring for the Indigenous population favored significant social interaction and expanded the possibilities for achieving comprehensive health care. The application of Transcultural Theory proved to be an effective and congruent device for health care.

RESUMEN Objetivo: Referir la experiencia de enfermeros de una Unidad Sanitaria Móvil en la atención a la población indígena venezolana de la etnia Warao, en Maceió/AL, a partir de la Teoría Transcultural de Madeleine Leininger. Metodología: Se trata de un estudio descriptivo, del tipo informe de experiencia, basado en la atención a la población indígena Warao a la luz de la Teoría Transcultural de Madeleine Leininger, realizado durante el año 2022. Resultados: Se utilizaron tecnologías leves para crear vínculos y comprender el universo cultural del pueblo Warao. Los conceptos de preservación, acomodación y reestructuración cultural de los cuidados de la teoría transcultural de Leininger ayudaron a dilucidar la práctica. Se ofreció atención integral según los programas recomendados por el Ministerio de Salud, con atención transcultural y se respetó el rechazo a la atención. La barrera lingüística y las creencias sanitarias representaron desafíos en el contexto de la atención singular. Conclusión: La experiencia de los enfermeros de la Unidad Sanitaria Móvil en la atención a la población indígena favoreció mucho la interacción social y amplió las posibilidades de lograr una atención sanitaria integral. La aplicación de la Teoría Transcultural demostró ser un dispositivo eficaz y adecuado para el cuidado de la salud.

Resultados: Utilizaram-se tecnologias leves para formação de vínculo e compreensão do universo cultural do povo Warao. Os conceitos de preservação, acomodação e reestruturação cultural do cuidado da teoria Transcultural de Leininger contribuíram para elucidar a prática vivenciada. Ofertou-se uma atenção integral conforme os programas preconizados pelo Ministério da Saúde, com cuidado transcultural, inclusive com respeito à recusa de assistência. A barreira linguística e as crenças no que tange à saúde representaram desafios no contexto do cuidado singular. Conclusão: A experiência de enfermeiros do Consultório na Rua no cuidado a população indígena favoreceu uma significativa interação social e ampliou as possibilidades para o alcance da integralidade em saúde. A aplicação da Teoria Transcultural se mostrou como um dispositivo eficaz e congruente para o cuidado em saúde.

ABSTRACT Consolidation tests give important insights into soil compactibility. However, it requires equipment that is not always available. The costal tablelands in Northeastern Brazil have extensive areas of cohesive soils where compaction is an expressive problem. This region is a prominent producer of food and fibers with cassava as one of the leading products. Part of the cassava is used for flour production, generating wastewater, which is often applied as organic fertilizer to the soil. This can affect the compaction properties of soil due to its dispersing-flocculating characteristics. Uniaxial-compression tests and mathematical models are the primary methods to measure or estimate soil compaction. This study measured soil compression with a centrifuge, seeking a simple-quick method. We used specific loads (stainless-steel cylinders: mass) and increasing G-force (weight) to simulate the pressure on the samples used in most consolidation apparatus. Soils, sampling layers, and the presence of cassava wastewater (manipueira) were also compared since they may affect compactibility-related attributes. Samples of a Gray Cohesive Argisol and Dystrocohesive Yellow Latosol (depths of 0-0.20 m and 0.20-0.40 m) from the Tablelands of the state of Bahia, Brazil, were used. Wastewater affected water-dispersible clay, aggregate stability, pH, ∆pH, flocculation, and organic carbon, thus influencing compactibility but not the moisture and maximum density measured by the Proctor test. Centrifugation caused lower density than the Proctor test. The results were close to those estimated by the mathematical models, thus considered a promising alternative to estimating consolidation. This method also provides insight into the root growth-limiting density and the moisture content that leads to it.

RESUMO Os testes de consolidação fornecem informações importantes sobre a compactabilidade do solo. No entanto, eles requerem equipamentos especiais, disponíveis em poucos laboratórios no Brasil. Esta região é uma proeminente produtora de alimentos e fibras em solos coesos. Esses solos apresentam problemas frequentes de compactação. Como a mandioca é um dos principais produtos, suas águas residuais (manipueira) são frequentemente utilizadas para adubação. Esse uso pode afetar a compactação devido à sua influência na dispersão-floculação de partículas. A compressão uniaxial e modelos matemáticos são as principais formas de medir ou estimar a compactação do solo. Aqui, a compressão foi medida com um teste alternativo de centrifugação usando amostras deformadas, buscando um método alternativo simples e rápido. Foram usadas cargas específicas (cilindros de aço inoxidável: massa) e força G crescente (peso) em centrífuga, para simular a pressão nas amostras usadas na maioria dos aparelhos de consolidação. Os solos, as camadas de amostragem e a presença de água residuária (manipueira) também foram comparados, pois podem afetar os atributos relacionados à compactabilidade. Foram utilizadas amostras de Argissolo Cinzento Coeso e Latossolo Amarelo Distrocoeso (profundidades de 0-0,20 m e 0,20-0,40 m), ambos provenientes dos Tabuleiros costeiros do estado da Bahia, Brasil. A água residual afetou o teor de argila dispersa em água, a estabilidade dos agregados, o pH, o ∆pH, a floculação e o teor de carbono orgânico, influenciando a compactabilidade, mas não a umidade e a densidade máxima medidas pelo teste de Proctor. Embora a centrifugação tenha proporcionado menor densidade do que o teste de Proctor, os resultados foram comparáveis àqueles estimados pelos modelos matemáticos. Este método também forneceu informações sobre a densidade, próxima aos valores que limitam o crescimento da raiz, e o teor de umidade que leva a essa densidade limitante.

ABSTRACT. The scarcity of surface water has led to the use of underground sources as an alternative for crop irrigation by farmers in semi-arid regions. However, these water sources generally have high salinity, which prevents agricultural production. The objective of this study was to determine the effects of pre-germination treatments with plant growth regulators and bioactivators on melon seeds to attenuate salt stress caused by irrigation water during germination and seedling development. Two trials were carried out separately with the hybrids, Goldex and Grand Prix. The design was completely randomized in a 4 × 3 factorial scheme (four seed treatments and three dilutions of irrigation water). Seeds were treated with salicylic acid and gibberellic acid and the insecticide, thiamethoxam, in addition to the control. Local supply water, artesian well groundwater, and dilution of these waters at a 1:1 ratio were employed for irrigation. Fourteen days after sowing, morphological and physiological analyses were performed, and the material was collected for biochemical determination. The use of saline well water affected the initial development of melon seedlings of the Goldex and Grand Prix hybrids. Pre-germination treatment of Goldex hybrid seeds with gibberellic acid was inefficient at mitigating salt stress. However, the effects of irrigation water salinity on Grand Prix melon seeds pretreated with salicylic acid and thiamethoxam were attenuated.

Abstract Residues are generated after the processing of citrus fruits and can be used for essential oil extraction. Thus, the objective of this work was to evaluate the composition, yield, and quality of the proven oil of 30 orange varieties, as an alternative for the better use of its residues. The peels were crushed and subjected to hydrodistillation in a Clevenger-type. The samples were submitted to an Entirely Randomized Design (DIC) and the results were analyzed in Analysis of Variance, Principal Component Analysis, and Hierarchical Cluster Analysis. The greatest gains in essential oil were yielded by the varieties Valencia IAC (5.57%), Pera DP 06 (4.75%), Hamlin 20 (4.58%), and Pera DP 25 (4.28%). Valencia IAC has the potential to extract up to 7.24 kg of essential oil per ton of orange. Limonene represents 93.18 to 99.61% of the oil components, being the major compound among all varieties. Some varieties did not describe secondary compounds or more than one. These components are highly antioxidant and of great importance in the production of cosmetics, personal care products, homeopathy, help gastrointestinal diseases, among other uses. It is possible to conclude that the varieties have different compounds and oils, even when submitted to the same drying and oil extraction process, being the intrinsic characteristics of each variety.

Resumo Após o processamento dos citros, são gerados resíduos que podem ser utilizados na extração do óleo essencial. Assim, o objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a composição, o rendimento e a qualidade do óleo comprovado de 30 variedades de laranja, como alternativa para o melhor aproveitamento dos resíduos. As cascas foram trituradas e submetidas à hidrodestilação em máquina tipo Clevenger. As amostras foram submetidas a um Delineamento Inteiramente Casualizado (DIC), e os resultados foram analisados em Análise de Variância, Análise de Componentes Principais e Análise de Agrupamento Hierárquico. As variedades Valência IAC (5,57%), Pera DP 06 (4,75%), Hamlin 20 (4,58%) e Pera DP 25 (4,28%) apresentaram os maiores ganhos em óleo essencial. Valência IAC tem potencial para extrair até 7,24 kg de óleoessencial por tonelada de laranja. O limoneno representa entre 93,18 e 99,61% do óleo, sendo ocomposto majoritário entre as variedades. Algumas variedades não descrevem compostos secundários, ou mais de um composto secundário. Esses componentes são altamente antioxidantes e degrande importância na produção de cosméticos, produtos de higiene pessoal,homeopatia, uso em doenças gastrointestinais, entre outros. É possível concluir que as variedadespossuem diferentes compostos e óleos, mesmo quando submetidas ao mesmo processo de secagem e de extração do óleo, sendo as características intrínsecas de cada variedade.

ABSTRACT The objective of this work was to produce and characterize biochar from sugarcane straw, as well as to investigate possible phytotoxic effects on the germination of cotton, maize, and soybean. To this end, the biochar was produced in a double-drum oven and characterized by different techniques. The germination trials were conducted in vitro, with biochar doses varying between 0 and 100 t/ha. The biochar was obtained with a yield of 40%, pH equal to 9.10, electrical conductivity of 2.22 dS/m and specific surface area of 20.3 m2/g. The elemental analysis showed H/C and O/C atomic ratios of 0.41 and 0.21, respectively. The FTIR showed the presence of C=C groups, while SEM/EDS showed a honeycomb porous structure and nutrients such as Mg, K and Ca. The germination test classified the biochar as a phytonutrient for corn and showed no phytotoxicity for soybeans. On the other hand, for cotton, the highest doses (50 and 100 t/ha) caused phytotoxicity. The results of this work meet the global demands for green techniques. Biochar made from sugarcane straw is a promising technology to improve the infertility of poor soils and manage carbon sequestration.

RESUMO O objetivo deste trabalho foi produzir e caracterizar o biocarvão a partir da palha de cana-de-açúcar, bem como investigar possíveis efeitos fitotóxicos às germinações de algodão, milho e soja. Para tanto, o biocarvão foi produzido em forno de duplo tambor e caracterizado por diferentes técnicas. Os ensaios de germinação foram conduzidos in vitro, com doses de biocarvão variando entre 0 e 100 t/ha. O biocarvão foi obtido com rendimento de 40%, pH igual a 9,10, condutividade elétrica de 2,22 dS/m e área superficial específica de 20,3 m2/g. A análise elementar mostrou razões atômicas H/C e O/C de 0,41 e 0,21, respectivamente. A FTIR mostrou a presença de grupos C=C, enquanto a MEV/EDS mostrou estrutura porosa tipo favo de mel e nutrientes, como o Mg, K e Ca. O ensaio de germinação classificou o biocarvão como fitoestimulante para o milho e mostrou ausência de fitotoxicidade para soja. Por outro lado, para o algodão, as doses mais elevadas (50 e 100 t/ha) causaram fitotoxicidade. Os resultados deste trabalho vêm ao encontro das demandas globais por técnicas verdes. O biocarvão feito da palha de cana-de-açúcar é uma tecnologia promissora para melhorar a infertilidade de solos pobres e gerir o sequestro de carbono.

Abstract The objective of this work is to investigate the conversion of spent coffee grounds (SCG) into biochar (BSC) and the ecotoxicological effects of the product obtained. The SCG and BSC were characterized by characterized by different techniques (TGA/DTG, FTIR, XRD, SEM, EDS, and EDXRF). Proton Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (1H NMR) was used to characterize the aqueous extract of BSC. The inhibitory effect on lettuce (Lactuca sativa) germination was investigated. Besides, antimicrobial activity evaluation trials were conducted with Azospirillum brasilense and Trichoderma spp. The results showed that in the BSC production process, the extractives and lignocellulosic components in the SCG were partly decomposed. Tests conducted with microorganisms did not reveal any toxic effect of BSC. However, high phytotoxicity against lettuce was recorded for rate 100 t/ha of BSC. This effect was associated with the presence of carboxylic acids identified by 1H NMR in the BSC extract aqueous.

Eugenia dysenterica (Mart.) DC. é uma árvore nativa do Cerrado brasileiro. Possui vários usos como alimentício, medicinal, madeireiro, ornamental e reflorestamento. Seus frutos podem ser consumidos in natura ou processados para a preparação de sucos, licores, bolos e sorvetes. Porém, sua exploração tem sido feita de forma extrativista e muitas vezes predatória. O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a fenologia, biometria e sobrevivência de uma coleção de cagaiteiras em fase inicial de desenvolvimento implantada no Cerrado, em Goiânia. Foram coletados frutos de 25 subpopulações naturais em 5 estados do Cerrado brasileiro (Bahia, Goiás, Mato Grosso, Minas Gerais e Tocantins). Dentro de cada subpopulação, seis árvores (matrizes) foram amostradas (com exceções as subpopulações 2, 12 e 21 com 5, 4 e 5 matrizes, respectivamente) e cinco frutos de cada matriz foram coletados. A coleção foi implantada em novembro de 2013, as avaliações ocorreram entre os meses de março e outubro de 2014. Realizou-se uma avaliação inicial e as demais mensalmente entre os meses de abril e outubro de 2014. As progênies se manifestaram de maneira diferente para os caracteres avaliados, sendo observada alta variabilidade.

Eugenia dysenterica (Mart.) DC. is a native tree of the Cerrado, a Brazilian ecosystem similar to the savannas. It has various uses such as food, medicinal, timber, ornamental and reforestation. Its fruits can be eaten raw or processed for the preparation of juices, liquors, cakes and ice cream. However, their exploitation has been made of extraction and often predatory manner. The objective of this study was to evaluate the phenology, plant biometrics and survival of a collection of Cagaiteiras trees in the initial phase of development located in the Cerrado, in Goiânia municipality. We collected fruits of 25 natural subpopulations of 5 states of the Brazilian Cerrado (Bahia, Goiás, Mato Grosso, Minas Gerais, and Tocantins). Within each subpopulation, six trees (mother plant) were sampled (with exceptions the subpopulations 2, 12, and 21 that were sampled five, four and five, respectively), and five fruits of each mother plant were collected. The collection was established in November 2013; the evaluations occurred between March and October 2014. We conducted an initial assessment, and another monthly between April and October 2014. The progenies manifested differently for the traits, being observed high variability among traits.

Tumores de laringe e traqueia são raros em animais de estimação e as informações sobre o comportamento, terapia e evolução destas neoplasias são limitadas. Neoplasias nesta área são desafios diagnósticos. Em muitos casos, pode ser feita a biópsia e excisão da massa utilizando instrumentos endoscópicos, mas não existe relato deste tipo de procedimento em caninos. O objetivo deste estudo foi relatar um caso de sucesso da remoção endoscópica de um tumor de laringe. A radiografia da região cervical revelou uma massa na luz da laringe invadindo a traqueia. O paciente foi então submetido a uma endoscopia para confirmar o diagnóstico radiográfico e remover cirurgicamente o tumor. O diagnóstico histopatológico foi de carcinoma pouco diferenciado. O tratamento mais adequado para os tumores da laringe é a ressecção da submucosa ou uma laringectomia parcial, no entanto, estas estão associadas a muitas complicações pós-operatórias. Em contraste, a abordagem endoscópica permite a visualização da lesão in situ, o que facilita a remoção cirúrgica da massa através de videocirurgia. Com pouca manipulação da área afetada, as chances de complicações pós-operatórias são reduzidas, levando a uma recuperação mais rápida.

Laryngeal and tracheal tumors are rare in pets; some piece of information on their disease behavior, therapy and evolution are limited. Neoplasms in this area are a diagnostic challenge. In many cases, they can be biopsied and excised using endoscopic instruments, but there is no report of this in canines. The goal of this study is to report a successful case of a laryngeal neoplasm removal through endoscopy. A head and neck radiogram revealed a mass in the laryngeal lumen protruding into the trachea. The patient then underwent an endoscopy to confirm the radiographic diagnosis and to surgically remove the tumor. The histopathological diagnosis was poorly differentiated carcinoma. The most appropriate treatment for laryngeal tumors is the resection of the submucosa or a partial laryngectomy however, partial and total laryngectomies are associated with many postoperative complications. In contrast, the endoscopic approach allows for highly magnified visualization of the lesion in situ, which facilitates the surgical removal of the mass through videosurgery. With little manipulation of the affected area, the chances of postoperative complications are reduced, leading to a more rapid recovery.

A utilização de sementes para formação de gramados esportivos e ornamentais tem assumido grande importância no Brasil, principalmente pelo baixo custo em relação à formação por placas de tapetes naturais. As "bermudas" [Cynodon dactylon (L.) Pers] são as principais gramas utilizadas na formação de campos esportivos e, dentre os problemas enfrentados, destaca-se a dificuldade de estabelecimento adequado da cultura, fato que exige a utilização de sementes de alto potencial fisiológico, de modo a permitir rápida emergência e desenvolvimento das plantas. Assim, estudaram-se procedimentos para a condução do teste de envelhecimento acelerado para determinar o potencial fisiológico de sementes dessa espécie, incluindo a avaliação da eficiência do uso de solução saturada de NaCl como alternativa para a realização do teste. Para tanto, cinco lotes de sementes foram submetidos aos testes de germinação, emergência de plântulas e envelhecimento acelerado (períodos de 48, 72 e 96 h, a 41 e 45 ºC, com e sem o uso de solução saturada de NaCl). O experimento foi conduzido em delineamento inteiramente casualizado. O envelhecimento acelerado com o uso de solução saturada de NaCl, dentre os procedimentos estudados, é o método mais adequado para avaliação do potencial fisiológico de sementes de grama-bermuda, sendo que a combinação 45 ºC/48 h é eficiente para a classificação dos lotes em diferentes níveis de vigor.

Seeds for forming ornamental and sports lawns has been very important in Brazil, mainly because of the lower cost compared to formatting lawns using plaques of natural carpets. Bermuda grass, [Cynodon dactylon (L.) Pers], is the main grass used on sports fields but one of the problems is establishing a suitable stand, a task that requires high quality seeds for rapid seedling emergence and initial plant development. The objective of this research was to study procedures for the accelerated ageing test to determine the physiological potential of seeds of this species, including the evaluation of the efficiency of using saturated salt solution as an alternative to doing the test. Five seed lots were tested for germination, first count of germination, seedling emergence and accelerated ageing (periods of 48, 72 and 96 h at 41 and 45 ºC, with and without the use of a saturated solution of NaCl). The experiment was conducted using a completely randomized design. Among the procedures evaluated, the saturated salt accelerated ageing method (SSAA) is the most suitable for assessing the physiological potential of bermuda grass seeds. The combination 45 ºC/48 h is the most efficient for classifying seed lots according to vigor.

Este trabalho tem como objetivo relatar a ocorrência de cinco casos de neoplasias de língua em cães. Os sinais clínicos mais observados foram ptialismo, halitose e hiporexia. Após biópsia excisional para exame histopatológico, os resultados revelaram dois casos de melanoma, um caso de histiocitoma, um caso de fibrossarcoma e um caso de mastocitoma grau II, sendo que neste o proprietário não autorizou qualquer forma de tratamento. O tratamento para os demais foi a glossectomia parcial e, no caso de fibrossarcoma, associou-se a quimioterapia. Dois animais apresentaram deiscência de sutura no pós-operatório, não havendo necessidade da realização de nova intervenção. Em relação ao prognóstico, os pacientes com histiocitoma, fibrossarcoma e um com melanoma não apresentaram recidiva, nem metástase da doença 12 meses após a cirurgia. No outro caso de melanoma, o paciente apresentou metástase na pele e nos pulmões 30 dias após a ressecção cirúrgica.

This paper is aimed at reporting five cases of neoplasms of the tongue in dogs. The clinical signs most observed were ptyalism, halitosis and hyporexia. After excisional biopsy the histological findings revealed two cases of melanoma, one case of histiocytoma, one case of fibrosarcoma and one case of mast cell tumor grade II, but in this case the owner didn't authorize any form of treatment. The treatments for the others cases were the partial glossectomy, and in the fibrosarcoma's case the chemotherapy was associated. Two animals had suture deiscencia in the post operatory, but in these cases it wasn't necessary another surgery. About the prognostic, the patients with histiocytoma, fibrosarcoma and one with melanoma didn't present cancer recurrence either metastasis 12 months after the surgery. But in another melanoma case the patient presented skin and lungs metastasis 30 day after surgery.
