ABSTRACT: In Brazil, urea is the most used nitrogen (N) fertilizer to improve forage production. However, their excessive use can cause environmental impacts through N losses, such as ammonia (NH3) volatilization. Therefore, the current study adjusted and estimated the NH3 volatilization from urea applied on tropical pastures in three rainfall conditions using mathematical models. Data were collected from Marandu grass (Brachiaria brizantha) fertilized with 50 kg N ha-1 during wet, intermediate, and dry conditions. Ammonia volatilization was measured in five semi-open chambers for 21 days. The linear, quadratic, exponential, Gompertz, Groot, and Richards models were tested for fitting and estimating the NH3 volatilization. The Gompertz, Groot, and Richards models generated predictions similar to the observed data, with a high determination coefficient, indicating a better fit of these equations to data, with precision and accuracy. However, the Groot model was selected due to the lowest root mean square error of prediction (0.29 % total N lost as NH3). The greatest N loss as NH3 volatilization occurred in the wet, followed by intermediate and dry conditions (20.2, 17.0, and 11.3 % total N lost as NH3, respectively). Therefore, nitrogen losses as NH3 volatilization after application of 50 kg N ha-1, as urea source, are altered according to the weather conditions, reaching 20% of N added in the wet rainfall period. The Groot model is recommended for fitting and estimating the NH3 volatilization from urea applied on Marandu grass pastures in the wet and dry rainfall conditions.

RESUMO: No Brasil, a ureia é o fertilizante nitrogenado mais utilizado para melhorar a produção de forragem. No entanto, seu uso excessivo pode causar impactos ambientais por meio de perdas de nitrogênio (N), como a volatilização da amônia (NH3). Portanto, o objetivo do presente estudo foi ajustar a volatilização de NH3 da ureia aplicada em pastos tropicais em três condições de chuva utilizando modelos matemáticos. Dados foram coletados de pastos de capim-marandu (Brachiaria brizantha) adubado com 50 kg N ha-1 em condições úmidas, intermediárias e secas. A volatilização da NH3 foi medida em cinco câmaras semiabertas durante 21 dias. Os modelos, linear, quadrático, exponencial, Gompertz, Groot e Richards foram testados para ajuste e estimativa da volatilização do NH3. Os modelos de Gompertz, Groot e Richards geraram predições semelhantes aos dados observados, com alto coeficiente de determinação, indicando um melhor ajuste dessas equações aos dados, com acurácia e precisão. No entanto, o modelo Groot foi selecionado devido ao menor erro quadrático médio das predições (0,29% de N total perdido como NH3). A maior volatilização de NH3 ocorreu em condições climáticas úmida, seguido por intermediária e seca (20,2; 17,0 e 11,3% de N total perdido como NH3, respectivamente). Portanto, as perdas de N como volatilização de NH3 após a aplicação de 50 kg N ha-1, como fonte de ureia, são alteradas de acordo com as condições climáticas, atingindo a 20% do N adicionado nas condições úmidas. O modelo Groot é recomendado para ajuste e estimativa da volatilização de NH3 da ureia aplicada em pastos de capim Marandu em condições úmidas e secas.

Objective: to create, validate and evaluate an educational video on nurse-patient communication strategies for undergraduate Nursing students. Method: this is a methodological study with a longitudinal design and quantitative analysis. The following stages were conducted: pre-production, production, post-production and evaluation of the video by the target population. Results: five female nurses evaluated the video storyboard and indicated understanding of the subject matter, the topics addressed and the language used as adequate and pertinent to the theme. Another five female nurses considered the following as present and desirable elements: quality of the audiovisual technique employed, simulated environment, characterization of the characters, and development of the nurse-patient communication strategies The final version of the video was evaluated by nine Nursing students that presented a level of item understanding of at least 96%. The video presents the following strategies: General communication strategies, Intercultural Communication, NURSE, Tell me more, Ask-Tell-Ask, Therapeutic Communication and Communicating Bad News. Conclusion: this study portrays the creation of a video, its validation by experts and its evaluation by the target population, which indicated it as a relevant educational resource for the teaching-learning process regarding communication strategies. Both the evaluators and the target population considered that the video is a valid instrument to teach content about the nurse-patient communication strategies.

Objetivo: elaborar, validar y evaluar un video educativo sobre estrategias de comunicación enfermero-paciente para estudiantes de la carrera de enfermería. Método: se trata de un estudio metodológico, con diseño longitudinal y análisis cuantitativo. El público objetivo cumplió las etapas de preproducción, producción, postproducción y evaluación del video. Resultados: cinco enfermeras evaluaron el storyboard del video y consideraron que la comprensión del tema, los tópicos abordados y el lenguaje utilizado eran apropiados y relevantes para el tema. Otras cinco enfermeras consideraron que la calidad de la técnica audiovisual utilizada, el ambiente simulado, la caracterización de los personajes y el desarrollo de las estrategias de comunicación enfermero-paciente estaban presentes y eran adecuados. La versión final del video fue evaluada por nueve estudiantes de enfermería que tuvieron un nivel de comprensión de los ítems igual o superior al 96%. El video presenta las siguientes estrategias: Estrategias Generales de Comunicación, Comunicación Intercultural, NURSE, Tell me more, Ask-Tell-Ask, Comunicación Terapéutica y Comunicación de Malas Noticias. Conclusión: este estudio describe la creación de un video, la validación que realizaron del mismo los expertos y la evaluación del público objetivo, quienes consideraron que es un recurso educativo importante para el proceso de enseñanza-aprendizaje de las estrategias de comunicación. Los jueces y el público objetivo consideraron que el video era un instrumento válido para enseñar las estrategias de comunicación enfermero-paciente.

Objetivo: construir, validar e avaliar um vídeo educativo sobre estratégias de comunicação enfermeiro-paciente para estudantes da graduação em enfermagem. Método: trata-se de um estudo metodológico, com delineamento longitudinal e análise quantitativa. Foram percorridas as etapas de pré-produção, produção, pós-produção e avaliação do vídeo pelo público-alvo. Resultados: cinco enfermeiras avaliaram o storyboard do vídeo e apontaram a compreensão do tema, os tópicos abordados e a linguagem utilizada como adequadas e pertinentes à temática. Outras cinco enfermeiras consideraram presentes e desejáveis: qualidade da técnica audiovisual empregada, ambiente simulado, caracterização das personagens e desenvolvimento das estratégias de comunicação enfermeiro-paciente. A versão final do vídeo foi avaliada por nove estudantes de enfermagem que apresentaram nível de compreensão dos itens igual ou acima de 96%. O vídeo apresenta as seguintes estratégias: Estratégias gerais de comunicação, Comunicação Intercultural, NURSE, Tell me more, Ask-Tell-Ask, Comunicação Terapêutica e Comunicação de Más Notícias. Conclusão: este estudo retrata a criação de um vídeo, sua validação por peritos e sua avaliação pelo público-alvo, que manifestaram tratar-se de um recurso educativo relevante para o processo de ensino-aprendizagem de estratégias de comunicação. Os juízes e o público alvo consideraram o vídeo como um instrumento válido para ensinar sobre as estratégias de comunicação enfermeiro-paciente.

Abstract Objective: to evaluate evidence on risk factors for the development of surgical site infection in bariatric surgery. Method: integrative review. The search for primary studies was performed in four databases. The sample consisted of 11 surveys. The methodological quality of the included studies was assessed using tools proposed by the Joanna Briggs Institute. Data analysis and synthesis were performed in a descriptive manner. Results: surgical site infection rates ranged from 0.4% to 7.6%, considering the results of primary studies, in which patients underwent laparoscopic surgery. In surveys of participants undergoing surgical procedures with different approaches (open, laparoscopic or robotic), infection rates ranged from 0.9% to 12%. Regarding the risk factors for the development of this type of infection, antibiotic prophylaxis, female sex, high Body Mass Index and perioperative hyperglycemia are highlighted. Conclusion: conducting the integrative review generated a body of evidence that reinforces the importance of implementing effective measures for the prevention and control of surgical site infection, by health professionals, after bariatric surgery, promoting improved care and patient safety in the perioperative period.

Resumen Objetivo: evaluar las evidencias sobre los factores de riesgo para el desarrollo de infección de sitio quirúrgico en cirugía bariátrica. Método: revisión integradora. La búsqueda de estudios primarios se realizó en cuatro bases de datos. La muestra estuvo compuesta por 11 investigaciones. La calidad metodológica de los estudios incluidos se evaluó mediante herramientas propuestas por el Joanna Briggs Institute. El análisis y la síntesis de los datos se realizaron de manera descriptiva. Resultados: las tasas de infección del sitio quirúrgico oscilaron entre 0,4% y 7,6%, considerando los resultados de los estudios primarios, en los que los pacientes fueron sometidos a cirugía mediante laparoscopia. En investigaciones con participantes que se sometieron a procedimientos quirúrgicos con diferentes enfoques (abierto, laparoscópico o robótico), las tasas de infección oscilaron entre el 0,9 % y el 12 %. En cuanto a los factores de riesgo para el desarrollo de este tipo de infección, se destacan la profilaxis antibiótica, el sexo femenino, el Índice de Masa Corporal elevado y la hiperglucemia perioperatoria. Conclusión: la realización de la revisión generó un cuerpo de evidencia que refuerza la importancia de implementar medidas efectivas para la prevención y el control de la infección de sitio quirúrgico, por parte de los profesionales de la salud, después de la cirugía bariátrica, promoviendo la mejora de la atención y la seguridad del paciente en el período perioperatorio.

Resumo Objetivo: avaliar as evidências sobre os fatores de risco para o desenvolvimento de infecção de sítio cirúrgico em cirurgia bariátrica. Método: revisão integrativa. A busca dos estudos primários foi realizada em quatro bases de dados. A amostra foi composta por 11 pesquisas. A qualidade metodológica dos estudos incluídos foi avaliada por meio de ferramentas propostas pelo Joanna Briggs Institute. A análise e a síntese dos dados foram realizadas de maneira descritiva. Resultados: as taxas de infecção de sítio cirúrgico variaram de 0,4% até 7,6%, considerando os resultados dos estudos primários, cujos pacientes foram submetidos à cirurgia por via laparoscópica. Nas pesquisas com os participantes submetidos aos procedimentos cirúrgicos com diferentes abordagens (aberta, via laparoscópica ou robótica), as taxas de infecção variaram de 0,9% até 12%. Com relação aos fatores de risco para o desenvolvimento deste tipo de infecção, ressaltam-se antibioticoprofilaxia, sexo feminino, Índice de Massa Corporal elevado e hiperglicemia perioperatória. Conclusão: a condução da revisão gerou corpo de evidências que reforça a importância na implementação de medidas efetivas para prevenção e controle de infecção de sítio cirúrgico pelos profissionais de saúde após cirurgia bariátrica, promovendo a melhoria da assistência e da segurança do paciente no perioperatório.

RESUMO Objetivo: Avaliar a associação entre os eventos periparto e o desenvolvimento do transtorno do espectro autista (TEA) em crianças/adolescentes. Métodos: Trata-se de um estudo de caso-controle desenvolvido no norte de Minas Gerais, Brasil. Os critérios de inclusão do grupo caso foram indivíduos com diagnóstico de TEA por laudo médico, confirmado pela Associação Norte Mineira de Apoio ao Autista ou por clínicas especializadas, e as mães que responderam positivamente a: “Seu filho foi diagnosticado com TEA?”. Assim, o grupo caso incluiu 253 mães de crianças/adolescentes com 2–15 anos diagnosticadas com autismo. O critério de inclusão no grupo controle abrangeu 852 indivíduos pertencentes à mesma faixa etária e matriculados nas mesmas escolas que o grupo caso. Um questionário semiestruturado foi aplicado às mães e o modelo de regressão logística múltipla foi adotado para a análise de dados. Para estimar a magnitude das associações, utilizou-se Odds Ratio (OR) bruta e ajustada. Resultados: O TEA foi associado à presença de mecônio no líquido amniótico (ORa 1,67; intervalo de confiança [IC95%] 1,06–2,65) e ao parto cesáreo (ORa 1,65; IC95% 1,17–2,32). A cesárea de emergência aumentou a chance de desenvolvimento do autismo (ORa 2,38; IC95% 1,61–3,51). Crianças/adolescentes com autismo apresentaram maior chance de exposição a dois ou mais eventos desfavoráveis de parto (ORa 1,59; IC95% 1,01–2,51). Conclusões: A presença de mecônio no líquido amniótico, cesárea de emergência e mais de um evento de parto desfavorável são fatores que devem ser considerados nos estudos sobre a etiologia do transtorno autístico.

Abstract Objective: To assess the association between peripartum events and autism spectrum disorder (ASD) development in children and adolescents. Methods: The current research is a case–control study in northern Minas Gerais state, Brazil. The inclusion criteria in the case group included individuals whose medical records reported an autistic disorder diagnosis, individuals had this diagnosis further confirmed by Northern Minas Autistic Support Association and specialized clinics, and their mothers had to answer positively to the question: “Was your child diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder?” in the data collection instrument. Thus, the case group included 253 mothers of children/adolescents of 2–15 years old diagnosed with autism. The inclusion criteria in the control group included 852 individuals belonging to the same age group and enrolled in the same schools as the case group. A semi-structured questionnaire was applied for mothers of children/adolescents, and the multiple logistic regression model was adopted for data analysis. Gross and adjusted Odds Ratios (ORa) were used to estimate the magnitude of the associations. Results: Autistic disorder was associated with the presence of meconium in amniotic fluid (AF) (ORa 1.67; 95% confidence interval [95%CI] 1.06–2.65) and cesarean delivery type (ORa 1.65; 95%CI 1.17–2.32). Emergency cesarean section increased autistic disorder development likelihood (ORa 2.38; 95%CI 1.61–3.51). Children and adolescents with ASD were more likely to have been exposed to two or more unfavorable peripartum events and obstetric complications than control groups (ORa 1.59; 95%CI 1.01–2.51). Conclusions: Meconium stained amniotic fluid, delivery by cesarean, and two or more unfavorable peripartum events are variables that should be considered in studies about ASD etiology.

RESUMO: O transtorno de acumulação de animais, principalmente de cães e gatos, é uma questão complexa que ocorre em quase todas as comunidades, sendo necessário o levantamento de dados que contribuam para a compreensão da leptospirose dentro da iniciativa Saúde Única. Com o objetivo de determinar a soroprevalência deLeptospirasp. em cães e gatos provenientes de acumuladores de animais foram utilizados 71 cães e 39 gatos de 33 acumuladores do município de Patos, estado da Paraíba, semiárido do Nordeste brasileiro, utilizando-se o teste de soroaglutinação microscópica (SAM) como teste de diagnóstico. Trinta e oito animais (34,5%; IC 95% = 25,7 - 43,4%) foram sororreativos, sendo 46,5% em cães e 12,8% em gatos (P < 0,01), com maior frequência do sorogrupo Icterohaemorrhagiae em ambas as espécies. A alta soroprevalência encontrada sugere a necessidade de políticas públicas para esta população vulnerável no sentido de prevenir a transmissão de zoonoses.

ABSTRACT: Animal hoarding disorder, especially dogs and cats, is a complex issue that occurs in almost all communities, and it is necessary to collect data that contribute to the understanding of leptospirosis within the One Health initiative. In order to determine the seroprevalence of Leptospirasp., 71 dogs and 39 cats from 33 people with animal hoarding profile in the municipality of Patos, state of Paraíba, semi-arid region of Northeastern Brazil were evaluated by using the microscopic serum agglutination test (MAT) as diagnostic test. Thirty-eight animals (34.5%; 95% CI = 25.7 - 43.4%) were seroreactive, with 46.5% in dogs and 12.8% in cats (P < 0.01), with the highest frequency of the Icterohaemorrhagiae serogroup in both species. The high seroprevalence reported suggests the need for public policies for this vulnerable population in order to prevent the transmission of zoonoses.

ABSTRACT Questions about the safety of food additives and their consumption have been raised in recent years. The increased exposure to these substances, either by intake of ultra-processed foods or by the broad use and combination of various categories of additives, may be related to higher risks to consumer health. This article comments on the results of a study that quantified and characterized food additives found on the labels of 9,856 packaged foods and beverages available in Brazilian supermarkets. The study adopted a field diary method to record and analyze nonconformities in the lists of ingredients. The objective of this article is to discuss the use of additives identified on the labels and the limitations of Brazilian legislation, which should guarantee the right to information and health.

RESUMO Nos últimos tempos, questões vêm sendo levantadas sobre a segurança no uso de aditivos alimentares e em seu consumo. verificou-se que o aumento da exposição a essas substâncias, seja pela ingestão mais frequente de alimentos ultraprocessados ou pela ampla utilização e combinação de várias categorias de aditivos pela indústria, pode estar relacionado ao maior risco à saúde do consumidor. Um estudo quantificou e caracterizou aditivos alimentares encontrados nos rótulos de 9.856 alimentos e bebidas embalados disponíveis nos supermercados brasileiros. nele, foi adotado um diário de campo para registro de falhas e inconformidades nas informações presentes nas listas de ingredientes, sendo, por fim, analisadas qualitativamente e descritas de forma narrativa. Com base nisso, o objetivo deste comentário é apresentar e discutir o uso desses aditivos identificados nos rótulos e as limitações da legislação brasileira, que deveria garantir o direito à informação e a saúde da população.

Abstract Introduction: Glomerulonephritis are the third cause of chronic kidney disease (CKD) requiring dialysis in Brazil. Mineral and bone disorder (MBD) is one of the complications of CKD and is already present in the early stages. Assessment of carotid intima-media thickness (CIMT) and flow-mediated vasodilatation (FMV) are non-invasive ways of assessing cardiovascular risk. Hypothesis: Patients with primary glomerulonephritis (PG) have high prevalence of atherosclerosis and endothelial dysfunction, not fully explained by traditional risk factors, but probably influenced by the early onset of MBD. Objective: To evaluate the main markers of atherosclerosis in patients with PG. Method: Clinical, observational, cross-sectional and controlled study. Patients with PG were included and those under 18 years of age, pregnants, those with less than three months of follow-up and those with secondary glomerulonephritis were excluded. Those who, at the time of exams collection, had proteinuria higher than 6 grams/24 hours and using prednisone at doses higher than 0.2 mg/kg/day were also excluded. Results: 95 patients were included, 88 collected the exams, 1 was excluded and 23 did not undergo the ultrasound scan. Patients with PG had a higher mean CIMT compared to controls (0.66 versus 0.60), p = 0.003. After multivariate analysis, age and values for systolic blood pressure (SBP), FMV and GFR (p = 0.02); and FMV and serum uric acid (p = 0.048) remained statistically relevant. Discussion and conclusion: The higher cardiovascular risk in patients with PG was not explained by early MBD. Randomized and multicentric clinical studies are necessary to better assess this hypothesis.

Resumo Introdução: Glomerulopatias são a terceira causa de doença renal crônica (DRC) com necessidade de diálise no Brasil. Distúrbio mineral e ósseo (DMO) é uma das complicações da DRC e está presente já nos estágios iniciais. A avaliação da espessura médio-intimal de carótidas (EMIC) e da vasodilatação fluxo-mediada (VFM) são maneiras não invasivas de avaliação do risco cardiovascular. Hipótese: Pacientes com glomerulopatias primárias (GP) apresentam alta prevalência de aterosclerose e disfunção endotelial, não explicada totalmente pelos fatores de risco tradicionais, mas provavelmente influenciada pela instalação precoce do DMO. Objetivo: Avaliar os principais marcadores de aterosclerose em pacientes com GP. Método: Estudo clínico, observacional, transversal e controlado. Foram incluídos portadores de GP e excluídos menores de 18 anos, gestantes, menos de três meses de seguimento e os com glomerulopatia secundária. Também foram excluídos aqueles que, no momento da coleta, apresentavam proteinúria maior que 6 gramas/24 horas e uso de prednisona em doses superiores a 0,2 mg/kg/dia. Resultados: 95 pacientes foram incluídos, 88 colheram os exames, 1 foi excluído e 23 não realizaram a ultrassonografia. Os pacientes com GP apresentaram maior EMIC média em relação ao controle (0,66 versus 0,60), p = 0,003. Após análise multivariada, mantiveram relevância estatística a idade e os valores de pressão arterial sistólica (PAS), VFM e TFG (p = 0,02) e VFM e ácido úrico sérico (p = 0,048). Discussão e conclusão: Pacientes com GP apresentaram maior risco cardiovascular, entretanto esse risco não foi explicitado pelo DMO precoce. Estudos clínicos randomizados e multicêntricos são necessários para melhor determinação dessa hipótese.

ABSTRACT: Sporotrichosis is a subcutaneous mycosis caused by fungus of the Sporothrix complex, and in Brazil the main species reported is Sporothrix brasiliensis, of which the diseased cat is the transmitter. Although, its occurrence has increased in the state of Paraíba, Brazil, since 2016, data on the disease in this state are limited. Therefore, this research aimed to identify molecularly isolates of Sporothrix spp. from domestic cats from cities in Paraíba, and in this way to expand the understanding of the disease in the state. Thirty-nine samples were analyzed, obtained from skin lesions of domestic felines, from the following cities in Paraíba: João Pessoa, Pilões, Patos, Areia, Bananeiras and Guarabira. Cytological analysis was performed to screen the samples, followed by fungal culture, and the molecular characterization of the isolates was performed, using the species-specific Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) or partial sequencing of the calmodulin gene. All isolates were identified as S. brasiliensis. The sequencing showed 100% similarity to the S. brasiliensis CBS 120339 strain. In view of this, it is concluded that in the study areas the species involved in cases of feline sporotrichosis is S. brasiliensis, its presence in Paraíba demonstrated the spread of the agent in regions distant from the epicenters in Brazil, alerting to the possible occurrence of zoonotic outbreaks similar to those found in the South and Southeast regions of the country. In addition, it highlights the emerging role of felines in the transmission of sporotrichosis in new endemic areas of Brazil.

RESUMO: A esporotricose é uma micose subcutânea causada por fungos do complexo Sporothrix, e no Brasil a principal espécie relatada é Sporothrix brasiliensis da qual o transmissor é o gato doente. Embora sua ocorrência tenha aumentado no estado da Paraíba, Brasil, desde 2016, os dados sobre a doença neste estado são limitados. Diante disso, esta pesquisa teve por objetivo identificar, molecularmente, isolados de Sporothrix spp. procedentes de felinos domésticos de cidades da Paraíba, e dessa maneira expandir a compreensão da enfermidade no estado. Foram analisadas 39 amostras, obtidas de lesões cutâneas de felinos domésticos, oriundos das seguintes cidades paraibanas: João Pessoa, Pilões, Patos, Areia, Bananeiras e Guarabira. Realizou-se análise citológica, para triagem das amostras, a seguir cultura fúngica, e posteriormente a caracterização molecular dos isolados, utilizando a Reação em Cadeia da Polimerase (PCR), espécie-específica ou sequenciamento parcial do gene calmodulina. Todos os isolados foram identificados molecularmente como S. brasiliensis. O sequenciamento demonstrou 100% de similaridade com a cepa S. brasiliensis CBS 120339. Contudo, conclui-se que nas áreas do estudo a espécie envolvida em casos de esporotricose felina é S. brasiliensis, sua presença na Paraíba demonstra a disseminação do agente em regiões distantes dos epicentros no Brasil, alertando para a possível ocorrência de surtos zoonóticos, semelhantes aos encontrados nas regiões Sul e Sudeste do país. Além disso, destaca o papel emergente dos felinos na transmissão da esporotricose em novas áreas endêmicas do Brasil.

Abstract Objective: Given the high proliferative activity of germinal matrix and its direct correlation with hypoxemia, it is necessary to investigate the possible molecular regulation pathways, to understand the existing clinical relationship between the hypoxic-ischemic insult and the biomarkers NF-kB, AKT-3, Parkin, TRK-C and VEGFR-1. Methods: A hundred and eighteen germinal matrix samples of the central nervous system of patients who died in the first 28 days of life were submitted to histological and immunohistochemistry analysis to identify the tissue immunoexpression of those biomarkers related to asphyxia, prematurity, and death events within 24h. Results: A significantly increased tissue immunoexpression of NF-kB, AKT-3 and Parkin was observed in the germinal matrix of preterm infants. In addition, significantly decreased tissue immunoexpression of VEGFR-1 and NF-kB was observed in patients who experienced asphyxia followed by death within 24 hours. Conclusions: The results suggest a direct involvement between the hypoxic-ischemic insult and NF-kB and VEGFR-1 markers since a decreased immunoexpression of these biomarkers was observed in asphyxiated patients. Furthermore, it is suggested that there was not enough time for VEGFR-1 to be transcribed, translated and expressed on the surface of the plasma membrane. This temporality can be observed in the relationship between NF-kB expression and the survival time of individuals who died within 24 hours, suggesting that this factor is essential for the production of VEGFR-1 and, therefore, to carry out the necessary remodeling effect to neovascularize the affected region.

RESUMO Objetivo: Dada a alta atividade proliferativa da matriz germinativa e sua correlação direta com a hipoxemia, é necessário investigar as possíveis vias de regulação molecular para entender a relação clínica existente entre o insulto hipóxico-isquêmico e os biomarcadores NF-kB, AKT -3, Parkina, TRK-C e VEGFR-1. Métodos: Cento e dezoito amostras de matriz germinativa do sistema nervoso central de pacientes que faleceram nos primeiros 28 dias de vida foram submetidas a análise histológica e imuno-histoquímica para identificar a imunoexpressão tecidual desses biomarcadores relacionados a eventos de asfixia, prematuridade e óbito em 24 horas. Resultados: Observou-se uma imunoexpressão tecidual significativamente aumentada de NF-kB, AKT-3 e Parkin na matriz germinativa de prematuros. Além disso, constatou-se uma imunoexpressão tecidual significativamente diminuída de VEGFR-1 e de NF-kB em pacientes que apresentaram asfixia seguida de morte em 24 horas. Conclusões: Os resultados sugerem o envolvimento direto entre o insulto hipóxico-isquêmico e os marcadores NF-kB e VEGFR-1, visto que se observou uma imunoexpressão diminuída destes biomarcadores nos pacientes asfixiados. Além disso, sugere-se que não houve tempo suficiente para que o VEGFR-1 fosse transcrito, traduzido e expresso na superfície da membrana plasmática. Essa temporalidade pode ser observada na relação entre a expressão de NF-kB e o tempo de vida dos indivíduos que morreram em 24 horas, o que sugere que esse fator é essencial para a produção do VEGFR-1 e, portanto, para realizar o efeito remodelador necessário para neovascularizar a região afetada.

ABSTRACT Background: The World Health Organization recommends a market-ready, urine-based point-of-care diagnostic test for circulating cathodic antigens (CCA) to determine the prevalence of S. mansoni. This study evaluated the performance of the URINE CCA (SCHISTO) ECO TESTE® (POC-ECO), which is currently available in Brazil. Methods: Residents from eight sites with different prevalence estimates provided one urine sample for POC-ECO and one stool sample for Kato-Katz (KK) and Helmintex® (HTX) testing as an egg-detecting reference for infection status. Results: None of the study sites had significantly higher POC-ECO accuracy than KK. Conclusions: POC-ECO is not currently recommended in Brazilian schistosomiasis elimination programs.

Abstract Behavioral characteristics may also take part in the etiology of dental caries. Sedentary behavior, especially watching television, is associated with increased intake of foods high in fat or free sugar, which could influence the occurrence of dental caries. The aim of this study was to assess the mediating effect of eating pattern on the relationship between television exposure time and the presence of dental caries in children. A cross-sectional study was conducted with a representative sample of 580 parent-child dyads with children aged 7 to 8 years in 20 public schools in Pelotas, Brazil. Parents or legal guardians were interviewed and provided information on demographic/socioeconomic data, children’s daily television exposure time, and answered the Biological Rhythms Interview for Assessment in Neuropsychiatry for Kids (BRIAN-K-eating pattern domain). Caries was evaluated through clinical examination. The mediating effect of eating pattern on the relationship between television exposure and presence of dental caries was estimated using the parametric g-formula. Prevalence of dental caries was 63%, and 22% of children watched TV 4 or more hours per day. Television exposure had no direct effect on the dental caries experience [odds ratio (OR): 1.05 (95% confidence interval (95%CI): 0.92–1.19)]. Nevertheless, difficulty maintaining regular eating pattern mediated the natural indirect effect of television exposure time (≥ 4 hours/day) on dental caries experience [OR: 1.07 (95%CI): 1.01–1.14)]. The results of this study confirm the indirect pathway between television viewing and dental caries and the role of disordered eating patterns in this association.

ABSTRACT The effects of diets containing oilseeds were measured to evaluate the productive and economic parameters in the finishing of young, feedlot Nellore bulls. Twenty-four young Nellore bulls were used, with an initial body weight (BW) of 311.46±0.37 kg and 24 months of age, distributed into individual stalls ( 4 × 20 m) in a completely randomized design, totaling four treatments with six repetitions per treatment. Four diets (control, based on corn and soybean meal, and three diets containing cottonseed, soybean, and sunflower) were evaluated. Feed and orts were measured daily to calculate intake and costs. The dry matter intake of the control group was higher than soybean (10.64 kg/day), cotton (9.88 kg/day), and sunflower (9.30 kg/day) treatments, respectively. The cottonseed treatment showed the highest average neutral detergent fiber intake. There was a dietary effect of diets on average daily gain, total weight gain, and final weight. The soybean treatment showed the highest performance, total gain (232.55 kg), and final weight (544.38 kg). Oilseed intake can modify the fatty acids profile in the meat, decreasing its saturated fatty acid content. Whole soybean seed favors performance, improves feed efficiency, fatty acid profile, and fat distribution in the carcass, and can reduce production costs.

This study aimed to analyze the physicochemical characteristics of honey and pollen of two different species of stingless bees Melipona flavolineata and Melipona fasciculata from different regions in the State of Pará, the two totally different localities, Mosqueiro Island and Castanhal municipality, different climate and vegetation directly influence the quality and characteristics of these raw materials. The honey and pollen samples were collected and stored in hermetically sealed pots, the honey was kept at room temperature and the pollen at a freezing temperature of -12 °C to -15 °C, the analyzes were carried out in the laboratory of the Universidade do Estado do Pará - Campus Castanhal. For physicochemical characterization of honey, moisture, acidity, pH, ash, insoluble solids, HMF reducing sugar, total and apparent sucrose, HMF and color were performed. For the physicochemical characterization of the pollen, moisture, ash, protein, acidity, reducing and total sugars were analyzed. Regarding the honey collected in the meliponario of the municipality of Castanhal, they obtained different results from the honey collected in Mosqueiro, even being of the same species. In the pollen collected from the stingless bees of the meliponario located on the island of Mosqueiro, there were high levels of lipids, the results of proteins obtained from the pollen of Castanhal were high, unlike the pollen of the island of Mosqueiro.

Abstract Objective To analyze the association between functionality and knowledge, attitudes, and practices of COVID-19 prevention in the elderly population of Recife, Pernambuco, Brazil. Method A cross-sectional study with remote data collection conducted between June and September 2020, involving 144 elderly individuals of both sexes who were served at COVID-19 reference points in eight districts. The dependent variable, knowledge, attitudes, and practices related to COVID-19 prevention, collected through the CAP Survey, was constructed using Latent Class Analysis. The primary independent variable was functionality in Instrumental Activities of Daily Living, collected through the Lawton and Brody scale. Data analysis utilized chi-square tests and multiple multinomial logistic regression analysis, with a significance level of 5%. Results The majority of the participants, 44%, exhibited regular knowledge and attitudes with good COVID-19 prevention practices. Independent participants had 4.26 times greater odds (95% CI: 1.46; 12.38) of possessing excellent knowledge, attitudes, and prevention practices for the disease. Those with higher levels of education had 3.89 times greater odds (95% CI: 1.16; 12.99) of having excellent knowledge, attitudes, and practices compared to those with no education. Both comparisons considered a 95% confidence interval. Conclusion COVID-19 prevention was influenced by functionality, indicating that greater functional independence led to better prevention among the elderly. This understanding directs public policies and actions aimed at the importance of disease prevention in the elderly population, as well as promoting healthy aging.

Resumo Objetivo Analisar a associação entre funcionalidade e conhecimentos, atitudes e práticas de prevenção da covid-19 em pessoas idosas do município do Recife, Pernambuco, Brasil. Método Estudo transversal com coleta remota entre junho e setembro de 2020, junto a 144 pessoas idosas de ambos os sexos, atendidas nos pontos de referência da covid-19, distribuídos em oito distritos. A variável dependente, conhecimentos, atitudes e práticas de prevenção da covid-19, coletada através do Inquérito CAP, foi construída pela Análise de Classe Latente. A variável independente principal foi a funcionalidade para Atividades Instrumentais da Vida Diária, coletada através da escala de Lawton e Brody. A análise de dados utilizou teste qui-quadrado e análise múltipla de regressão logística multinomial, com significância 5%. Resultados A maioria dos estudados, 44%, apresentou conhecimentos e atitudes regulares e boa prática de prevenção da covid-19. Os participantes independentes apresentaram 4,26 (IC95% 1,46; 12,38) mais chances de ter conhecimentos, atitudes e práticas excelentes para a prevenção da doença. Já os com maior escolaridade apresentaram 3,89 (IC95% 1,16; 12,99) mais chances de ter conhecimentos, atitudes e práticas excelentes, comparados aos que nunca, ambas comparações consideraram intervalo de confiança 95%. Conclusão A prevenção da covid-19 sofreu influência da funcionalidade, mostrando-se que quanto maior a independência funcional, melhor a prevenção nas pessoas idosas. Esse conhecimento leva ao direcionamento de políticas públicas e ações voltadas para a importância da prevenção de doenças na população idosa, bem como para a promoção do envelhecimento saudável.

Abstract Introduction Clinical assessment in orofacial motricity is required for the speech therapist to diagnose and treat disorders involving the stomatognathic system. Validated tools can help establish a prognosis and outline intervention methods connected to human development. Objective The goal of the present study was to examine the domains of the oromyofunctional assessment of nursing infants and preschoolers according to sex and age group, as well as the application of the MMBGR Protocol – Nursing Infants and Preschool Children. Methods A quantitative technique was used to conduct an analytical and cross-sectional investigation. The present study included a total of 214 healthy breastfeeding infants and preschoolers of both sexes. The Mann-Whitney test was used to compare the medians. The Spearman correlation of each test domain was determined. R Core Team 2021 (R Foundation, Vienna, Austria) was used, and the significance threshold was set at 5%. Results In intraoral and extraoral examinations, there was a difference between sexes for tongue scores in nursing infants(d =-0.428; p = 0.045), worse in males. When the orofacial functions were considered in nursing infants, there were differences between the sexes for the liquid/solid/semisolid deglutition scores (d = 0.479; p = 0.031), with females performing worse. There were sex differences in solid/semisolid deglutition (d = -0.335; p = 0.043), and speech in preschoolers (d = - 0.478; p = 0.034), including the production of phones/phonemes (d = - 0.599; p = 0.007), which were always worse in males. Conclusion The research revealed sex disparities and related the domains of oromyofunctional assessment, according to scores, of the domains of myofunctional assessment, as recorded in a standardized oromyofunctional assessment protocol by age group.
