Abstract This article presents the biobibliography and the role of the black bibliophile, archivist and librarian, Arturo Alfonso Schomburg, in the organization and collection of informational resources representing black, African and African diaspora experience and thought. It reflects on black memorabilia and the importance of black collections for preserving the memory, history and culture of marginalized peoples in racialized western societies. Highlights Schomburg's political action in the creation and curation of black collections, in particular, his private collection, which was crucial for the beginning of the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture, which even makes accessible the contribution of the black and Afro-diasporic population to the future generations. We hoped that the present research will instigate more historical studies of black librarianship, especially in the fight against the hegemonic discourse that makes the contribution of black actors in different social, professional and epistemic spheres invisible and absent.

Resumo Este artigo apresenta a biobibliografia e a atuação do bibliófilo, arquivista e bibliotecário negro, Arturo Alfonso Schomburg na organização e coleta de recursos informacionais representantes da experiência e do pensamento negro, africano e da diáspora africana. Reflete sobre a memorabilia negra e importância de coleções negras para a preservação da memória, história e cultura de povos marginalizados em sociedades ocidentais racializadas. Em seguida, destaca a ação política de Schomburg na criação e curadoria de coleções negras, em especial, sua coleção particular que foi crucial para o início do Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture, que até torna acessível informações sobre contribuição da população negra e afrodiaspórica às futuras gerações. Espera-se que a presente pesquisa instigue mais estudos históricos da biblioteconomia negra, especialmente, no combate ao discurso hegemônico que invisibiliza e torna ausentes a contribuição de atores negros em diversas esferas sociais, profissionais e epistêmicas.

ABSTRACT Introduction: Surface treatment is an important technique to increase adhesion between implants and bones, improving its mechanical characteristics and consequently the patient’s comfort. Objectives: Ni-Cr alloys were the object of study in this work, with the purpose of analyzing and evaluating the effect of thin films deposition of titanium nitride via plasma, on its surface and comparing with cathodic cage (CC) and hollow cathode (HC) methods, for dental applications. Methods: Eighteen samples were prepared and the experiment was conducted in two steps: the pre-sputtering (1h, 350 °C, gases: Ar and H) and sputtering (4h, 450 °C, gases: Ar, Ni, and H). To characterize and compare the samples with those of reference, the Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), Vickers Microhardness and wettability tests were used. Results: The results presented by SEM showed that during the surface treatment using CC, voids were formed, and using HC, the samples showed a more homogenous behavior. In microhardness tests, using a 25gf load, it was possible to observe that the HC method allowed an increase of 87% when compared to the reference and treated samples. Significance: Lastly, it can be concluded that both methods are suitable for Ni-Cr alloy surface treatment, and the HC technique, a method already used by dental professionals, presents better results due to the formation of a thicker film layer.

ABSTRACT Objetive: to identify the approaches about the policy of affirmative action by racial quotas present in the scientific literature produced in the areas of Information Science and Librarianship. Methods: the methodological paths for the production of this work are of exploratory and descriptive origin. With a quali-quantitative approach, a bibliographic research was carried out on the theme in the following databases: Web of Science (WoS), JSTOR Library, Reference Base of Journal Articles in Information Science and Scielo. The chronological cut was from the year 2000 to the year 2022 (totaling twenty-two years), by searching for the terms "Affirmative Actions", "Racial Quotas" and "Law 12.711/2012". Results: The retrieval of data encompassing the theme of affirmative action policy by racial quotas returned a total of 82 papers, distributed in: 57 in the JSTOR Library, 6 in BRAPCI, 1 in WOS and 18 in Scielo. These are separated and analyzed in categories. Conclusions: we concluded that there is an approach in ICB about affirmative action through racial quotas in higher education, however, it is a small literature for the wide range of issues that the theme can develop in academic research. We reaffirm the importance of academic research in the performance of the formation of a more just, active and vigilant State in the production of an equitable society.

RESUMO Objetivo: identificar as abordagens sobre a política de ações afirmativas por cotas raciais presentes na literatura científica produzida nas áreas da Ciência da Informação e Biblioteconomia. Método: os caminhos metodológicos para a produção do presente trabalho são de origem exploratória e descritiva. De abordagem qualiquantitativa. A partir de pesquisa bibliográfica foi realizado um levantamento sobre o tema nas bases de dados: Web of Science (WoS), Biblioteca JSTOR, Base Referenciais de Artigos de Periódicos em Ciência da Informação e Scielo. Com o recorte cronológico do ano de 2000 até o ano de 2022 (totalizando vinte e dois anos), pela busca dos termos “Ações Afirmativas”, “Cotas Raciais” e “Lei 12.711/2012”. Resultado: a recuperação de dados que englobam o tema política de ações afirmativas por cotas raciais retornou um total de 82 trabalhos, distribuídos em: 57 na Biblioteca JSTOR, 6 na BRAPCI, 1 na WOS e 18 na Scielo. Que estão separados e analisados em categorias. Conclusões: concluímos que existe uma abordagem em Biblioteconomia e Ciência da Informação sobre as ações afirmativas por cotas raciais no ensino superior, entretanto, é uma literatura acanhada para a vasta gama de assuntos que a temática pode desenvolver na pesquisa acadêmica. Reafirmamos a importância da pesquisa acadêmica na atuação da formação de um Estado mais justo, atuante e vigilante na produção de uma sociedade equânime.

BACKGROUND Leishmania RNA virus 1 (LRV1) is commonly found in South American Leishmania parasites belonging to the subgenus Viannia, whereas Leishmania RNA virus 2 (LRV2) was previously thought to be restricted to the Old-World pathogens of the subgenus Leishmania. OBJECTIVES In this study, we investigated the presence of LRV2 in strains of Leishmania (L.) infantum, the causative agent of visceral leishmaniasis (VL), originating from different hosts, clinical forms, and geographical regions. METHODS A total of seventy-one isolates were screened for LRV2 using semi-nested reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) targeting the RNA-dependent RNA polymerase (RdRp) gene. FINDINGS We detected LRV2 in two L. infantum isolates (CUR268 and HP-EMO) from canine and human cases, respectively. MAIN CONCLUSIONS To the best of our knowledge, this is the first detection of LRV2 in the New World.

Abstract The aim of the present study was to evaluate semen cryopreservation with ACP-Lact® diluent, which consists of coconut water powder (ACP) added to goat milk powder. After thawing, the samples were evaluated for sperm kinetics, membrane evaluation and in vivo insemination. For cryopreservation, a pool was made with the ejaculate of six goats, diluted in four equal aliquots for the respective treatments: T1 (ACP-Lact®); T2 (ACP-Lact® 50%); T3 (ACP + 2.5% egg yolk) and T4 (Tris + 2.5% egg yolk). After dilution of the treatments, the samples were placed in 0.5 ml straws and chilled at a rate of -1.07°C/min. After reaching 4°C and stabilizing for one hour, the straws were placed in nitrogen vapour at -60°C for 15 minutes and then immersed in liquid nitrogen (-196ºC). The straws were thawed in a 37°C water bath and kinetic assessments were performed immediately using a computerized semen analysis program (CSA), viability (EN), membrane functionality (HOST), mitochondrial activity (DAB) and DNA integrity assessment of spermatozoa. For the in vivo experiment, ten goats were inseminated, divided into two groups of five goats each, G1 inseminated with ACP-Lact® and G2 with ACP, by fixed-time artificial insemination (FTAI). Regarding the kinetic parameters, the ACP-Lact® treatment showed higher progressive motility (PM) and sperm velocity than the other treatments (36.77%). In the VSL parameter the ACP-Lact diluent was superior to ACP and Tris. In viability the treatment with ACP-Lact® was superior to the treatment with Tris, 95% and 83% respectively. In FTAI two goats were born out of the 5 goats inseminated with ACP-Lact®. It was concluded that the use of ACP-Lact® for cryopreservation of caprine semen is efficient in maintaining seminal parameters during thawing in vitro and in vivo and proved to be a good alternative extender for the caprine species.

ABSTRACT Purpose To characterize hearing thresholds at frequencies of 500, 1000, 2000 and 4000 Hz in children undergoing reimplantation with a follow-up of at least 10 years. Methods Retrospective review of medical records of children who underwent reimplantation surgery for at least 10 years. The auditory thresholds obtained in free-field pure tone audiometry with the cochlear implant were evaluated at frequencies of 500, 1000, 2000 and 4000 Hz at four different times: 1 (before failure), 2 (activation), 3 (five years after reimplantation) and 4 (ten years after reimplantation, regardless of the time of use of the 2nd CI) in patients with a follow-up of at least 10 years. Results Evaluating patients who underwent reimplantation, it was observed that the thresholds of 500, 1000, 2000, 4000 Hz were similar in the long term to those obtained in patients who were implanted only once, thus not presenting damage in the detection of sounds. Conclusion Reimplantation had no long-term effect on the hearing thresholds obtained in children who underwent this surgery due to internal component failure.

RESUMO Objetivo Caracterizar os limiares auditivos nas frequências de 500, 1000, 2000 e 4000 Hz em crianças submetidas ao reimplante com follow-up de no mínimo 10 anos. Método Revisão retrospectiva de prontuários de crianças submetidas a cirurgia de reimplante há pelo menos 10 anos. Foram avaliados os limiares auditivos obtidos na audiometria tonal liminar em campo livre com o implante coclear nas frequências de 500, 1000, 2000 e 4000 Hz em quatro momentos distintos: 1 (antes da falha), 2 (ativação), 3 (cinco anos após o reimplante) e 4 (dez anos após o reimplante, independentemente do tempo de uso do uso do 2o IC) em pacientes com follow-up de no mínimo 10 anos. Resultados Avaliando-se pacientes submetidos ao reimplante, observou-se que os limiares de 500, 1000, 2000, 4000 Hz apresentaram-se a longo prazo semelhante àqueles obtidos nos pacientes implantados somente uma única vez, não apresentando prejuízo assim na detecção dos sons. Conclusão O reimplante não teve efeito de longo prazo sobre os limiares auditivos obtidos em crianças que se submeteram a esta cirurgia por falha do componente interno.

RESUMO: Nas últimas décadas pesquisas voltadas à irrigação de precisão, impulsionadas pelas mudanças climáticas, desenvolveram uma infinidade de estratégias, métodos e tecnologias para reduzir o consumo de água em projetos de irrigação, para adaptação à crescente ocorrência de escassez de água, secas agrícolas e competição entre os setores agrícolas e industriais pelo uso da água. Nesta conjuntura, a adoção de práticas de economia e aplicação de água, implica em uma abordagem multidisciplinar para a quantificação precisa das necessidades de água das culturas, sob diversas práticas de disponibilidade e manejo da água. Dessa forma, este artigo de revisão tem como objetivo apresentar uma revisão sobre as tecnologias e novas tendências no contexto da irrigação de precisão, as perspectivas futuras e analisar criticamente noções e meios para manter altos índices de produtividade da terra e da água, que minimizem o consumo de água irracional a nível de campo. ABSTRACT: In recent decades, research on precision irrigation driven by climate change has developed a multitude of strategies, methods and technologies to reduce water consumption in irrigation projects and to adapt to the increasing occurrence of water scarcity, agricultural droughts and competition between agricultural and industrial sectors for the use of water. In this context, the adoption of water-saving and application practices implies a multidisciplinary approach to accurately quantify the water needs of crops under different water availability and management practices. Thus, this review article presented a review of technologies and new trends in the context of precision irrigation, future perspectives and critically analyze notions and means to maintain high levels of land and water productivity, which minimize irrational water consumption at the field level. Abstract The action of substances with non-permeable cryoprotectant potential, besides glucose, has not yet been studied for the species Prochilodus brevis. The objective of this work was to evaluate the action of four non-permeable cryoprotectants on this species sperm cryopreservation. Five pools were cryopreserved in a solution of 5% glucose and 10% dimethyl sulfoxide (Me2SO) associated or not (control) with cryoprotectants egg yolk (5, 10 or 12%), soy lecithin (2.5, 7.5 or 10%), sucrose (5, 10 or 20%) and lactose (5, 8 or 15%). After thawing, samples were evaluated for sperm kinetics (total motility, motility duration, velocities, and wobble - WOB), morphology and membrane and DNA integrity. The treatments containing egg yolk improved significantly (P<0.05) results when compared the control for the membrane integrity parameter. When compared to other treatments, egg yolk, at any concentration, presented higher results (P<0.05) for membrane integrity, total motility, curvilinear velocity (VCL) and average path velocity (VAP) parameters. Egg yolk also showed the best results for WOB, but it did not differ from 5% and 8% lactose and 5% and 20% sucrose. Soy lecithin had the lowest percentages of morphologically normal sperm (P<0.05), while the other treatments did not differ from each other. There was no difference regarding DNA integrity data. Thus, 5% egg yolk is indicated as a non-permeable cryoprotectant for P. brevis, in association with 5% glucose and 10% Me2SO.

RESUMO Introdução: Síndrome de Guillain-Barré (SGB), uma polirradiculoneuropatia aguda que ocorre devido a uma resposta inflamatória anormal no sistema nervoso periférico, é caracterizada clinicamente por paralisia flácida aguda e arreflexia, com ou sem sintomas sensitivos. Essa síndrome pode deixar sequelas incapacitantes ou até ameaçar a vida. Objetivo: Apresentar os aspectos clínicos e epidemiológicos da SGB em pacientes internados em um hospital terciário do Distrito Federal, no período de janeiro/2013 a junho/2019. Métodos: Estudo observacional, transversal e retrospectivo, no qual pacientes com diagnóstico de polirradiculoneuropatia desmielinizante inflamatória aguda, neuropatia axonal motora aguda ou neuropatia axonal sensitivo motora aguda a partir dos achados eletroneuromiográficos foram selecionados e seus dados clínicos coletados retrospectivamente em seus prontuários. Resultados: Um total de 100 pacientes (63 homens e 37 mulheres; proporção de 1,7:1), com idades entre 2–86 anos (média, 36,4 anos), foram incluídos. A taxa média anual de incidência de SGB foi de 0,54 casos/100.000 habitantes, com 52 e 49% dos casos ocorrendo entre outubro e março (período chuvoso) e entre abril e setembro (período seco), respectivamente. A proporção de pacientes que apresentaram cada variante de SGB foi a seguinte: formas desmielinizantes, 57%; formas axonais, 39%; e indeterminado, 4%. A duração média da hospitalização foi de 8‒15 dias para a maioria dos pacientes (38%). Durante a hospitalização, 14% dos pacientes necessitaram de ventilação mecânica e 20% apresentaram complicações infecciosas. Conclusão: Os resultados indicam aumento na incidência de GBS durante a estação chuvosa. Além disso, não observamos a distribuição bimodal típica em relação à idade de início.

Abstract Background: Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS), an acute polyradiculoneuropathy that occurs because of an abnormal inflammatory response in the peripheral nervous system, is clinically characterized by acute flaccid paresis and areflexia with or without sensory symptoms. This syndrome can lead to disabling or even life-threatening sequelae. Objective: This study aimed to present the clinical and epidemiological aspects of GBS in patients admitted to a tertiary-level hospital in the Federal District between January 2013 and June 2019. Methods: In this observational, cross-sectional and retrospective study, medical records of patients diagnosed with acute inflammatory demyelinating polyradiculoneuropathy, acute motor axonal neuropathy or acute axonal motor-sensitive neuropathy based on electromyographic findings were included, and clinical data were collected retrospectively. Results: A total of 100 patients (63 males and 37 females; ratio, 1.7:1) aged 2–86 years (mean, 36.4 years) were included. The mean annual incidence rate of GBS was 0.54 cases/100,000 inhabitants, with 52 and 49% of the cases occurring between October and March (rainy season) and between April and September (dry season), respectively. The proportions of patients showing each GBS variant were as follows: demyelinating forms, 57%; axonal forms, 39%; and undetermined, 4%. The mean duration of hospitalization was 8–15 days for most patients (38%). During hospitalization, 14% of the patients required mechanical ventilation and 20% experienced infectious complications. Conclusion: The findings indicate that there was an increase in the incidence of GBS during the rainy season. Moreover, we did not observe the typical bimodal distribution regarding age at onset.

Abstract Spondyloarthritis (SpA) is a group of chronic inflammatory systemic diseases characterized by axial and/or peripheral joints inflammation, as well as extra-articular manifestations. Over some decades, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) have been the basis for the pharmacological treatment of patients with axial spondyloarthritis (axSpA). However, the emergence of the immunobiologic agents brought up the discussion about the role of NSAIDs in the management of these patients. The objective of this guideline is to provide recommendations for the use of NSAIDs for the treatment of axSpA. A panel of experts from the Brazilian Society of Rheumatology conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized clinical trials for 15 predefined questions. The Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development and Evaluation methodology to assess the quality of evidence and formulate recommendations were used, and at least 70% agreement of the voting panel was needed. Fourteen recommendations for the use of NSAIDs in the treatment of patients with axSpA were elaborated. The purpose of these recommendations is to support clinicians’ decision making, without taking out his/her autonomy when prescribing for an individual patient.

RESUMO O estádio de maturação das sementes influencia a sua qualidade fisiológica logo após a colheita. O objetivo do trabalho foi avaliar as alterações anatômicas, histoquímicas e fisiológicas em sementes de grão-de-bico ‘BRS Aleppo’ obtidas de vagens em diferentes estádios de maturação. Foram colhidas vagens em cinco estádios de maturação: verde, verde-amarelo, amarelo, amarelo-dourado e marrom. Para caracterização anatômica e histoquímica os cortes foram corados com Azul de Toluidina, Lugol, Xylidine Ponceau (XP), Vermelho de Rutênio. Para avaliação das alterações fisiológicas, as sementes foram secas até 12% de umidade. Foram realizados os seguintes testes: grau de umidade, germinação, porcentagem e índice de velocidade de emergência e condutividade elétrica. Utilizou-se o delineamento inteiramente casualizado com quatro repetições. Verificou-se que com o desenvolvimento das sementes de grão-de-bico as camadas mais internas do tegumento sofrem colapso. O acúmulo de amido e proteína já está em andamento nas sementes de vagens verdes. A pectina se destaca dentre os compostos constituintes de parede celular dos esclereídes do tegumento. Em geral, sementes obtidas de vagens com coloração externa amarela, amarelo-dourado e marrom apresentam maior germinação e vigor.

ABSTRACT The maturation stage of seeds affects their physiological quality soon after harvest. The aim of this study was to evaluate the anatomical, histochemical, and physiological changes in chickpea ‘BRS Aleppo’ seeds obtained from pods in different maturity stages. Pods were collected in five maturity stages: green, yellow-green, yellow, golden-yellow, and brown. For anatomical and histochemical characterization, sections were stained with toluidine blue, Lugol’s solution, Xylidine-Ponceau (XP), and ruthenium red. For evaluation of physiological changes, seeds were dried to 12% (wet basis) water content. The following tests were performed: seed water content, germination, percentage and speed of seedling emergence, and electrical conductivity. A completely randomized experimental design was used, with four replications. As the chickpea seeds develop, the innermost layers of the seed coat collapse. Accumulation of starch and protein were already observed in the seeds of green pods and pectin was prominent compound of the seed coat sclerids. In general, chickpea seeds from yellow, golden-yellow and brown pods have greater germination and vigor.

Abstract Psoriatic arthritis (PsA) is a chronic and systemic immune disease characterized by inflammation of peripheral and/ or axial joints and entheses in patients with psoriasis (PsO). Extra-articular and extracutaneous manifestations and numerous comorbidities can also be present. These recommendations replace the previous version published in May 2013. A systematic review of the literature retrieved 191 articles that were used to formulate 12 recommendations in response to 12 clinical questions, divided into 4 sections: diagnosis, non-pharmacological treatment, conventional drug therapy and biologic therapy. These guidelines provide evidence-based information on the clinical management for PsA patients. For each recommendation, the level of evidence (highest available), degree of strength (Oxford) and degree of expert agreement (interrater reliability) are reported.

RESUMO Introdução Numerosas estratégias de recuperação têm sido usadas para minimizar a perda de desempenho decorrente de dor muscular de início tardio em atletas e fazem parte de programas de prevenção e treinamento da maioria dos esportes de alto nível. Objetivos Analisar os efeitos da imersão em água fria sobre a dor muscular tardia, o recrutamento muscular e o controle postural de jogadores de futebol. Métodos Estudo clínico randomizado e cego. Determinou-se a carga máxima da força muscular do quadríceps femoral. Depois de três dias, empregou-se a escala de dor para avaliar a intensidade da dor dos indivíduos. O recrutamento do quadríceps femoral foi determinado no momento do chute e associado ao controle postural. Duas séries repetidas de conjuntos de carga máxima a 60% da CVM, realizadas em uma cadeira extensora de joelho, foram usadas para induzir fadiga do quadríceps nos atletas. Vinte e oito jogadores de futebol foram randomizados em quatro grupos de intervenção: imersão em água fria (GIAF, n = 7), imersão em água termoneutra (GIAT, n = 7), recuperação ativa (GRA, n = 7) e repouso (GR, n = 7), sendo cada intervenção realizada por dez minutos. As reavaliações ocorreram depois de 24, 48 e 72 horas do protocolo de fadiga. Resultados A intensidade da dor no GIAF voltou para o valor basal após 72 horas, enquanto GIAT, GRA e GR continuaram a sentir dor acentuada. Não foram encontradas diferenças entre os grupos com relação aos outros desfechos. Conclusão Com relação ao recrutamento muscular e ao controle postural no momento do chute, não foram encontradas diferenças significativas para os períodos ou intervenções estabelecidas. Nível de evidência I; Estudo clínico randomizado de alta qualidade com ou sem diferença estatisticamente significante, mas com intervalos de confiança estreitos.

ABSTRACT Introduction Numerous recovery strategies have been used to minimize performance loss related to delayed onset muscle soreness in athletes, and are part of prevention programs and training of most high-level sports. Objective To analyze the effects of cold-water immersion on delayed-onset muscle soreness, muscle recruitment, and postural control in soccer players. Objective The maximum load of the quadriceps femoris muscle strength was determined. After three days, the pain scale was used to measure the subject’s pain intensity. The recruitment of the quadriceps muscle was determined at the moment of the kick, and was associated with postural control. Methods Randomized, blinded clinical trial study. Two repeated series of maximum load sets at 60% MVC, performed in a knee extension chair, were used to induce quadriceps fatigue in the athletes. Participants Twenty-eight soccer players were allocated to four intervention groups: cold water immersion (CWIG, n = 7), thermoneutral water immersion (TWIG, n = 7), active recovery (ARG, n = 7), and rest (RG, n = 7), with each intervention being carried out for ten minutes. Revaluations were carried out after 24, 48, and 72 hours of the fatigue protocol. Results Pain intensity in the CWIG returned to baseline after 72 hours, while the TWIG, ARG, and RG continued to feel greater pain. For the other outcomes, no differences were found between the groups. Conclusion With regard to muscle recruitment and postural control at the time of the kick, no significant differences were found for the time periods or intervention established. Level of evidence I; High-quality randomized clinical trial with or without statistically significant difference, but with narrow confidence intervals.

RESUMEN Introducción Se han utilizado numerosas estrategias de recuperación para minimizar la pérdida de rendimiento relacionada con el dolor muscular de aparición tardía en los atletas y son parte de programas de prevención y entrenamiento de la mayoría de los deportes de alto nivel. Objetivos Analizar los efectos de la inmersión en agua fría sobre el dolor muscular tardío, el reclutamiento muscular y el control postural en jugadores de fútbol. Métodos Estudio clínico aleatorizado y ciego. Se determinó la carga máxima de la fuerza muscular del cuádriceps femoral. Después de tres días, se usó la escala de dolor para evaluar la intensidad del dolor de los individuos. El reclutamiento del cuádriceps femoral se determinó en el momento de la patada y se asoció con el control postural. Se utilizaron dos series repetidas de conjuntos de carga máxima al 60% de la CVM en una silla de extensión de rodilla para inducir fatiga del cuádriceps en atletas. Veintiocho jugadores de fútbol fueron asignados al azar en cuatro grupos de intervención: inmersión en agua fría (GIAF, n = 7), inmersión en agua termoneutra (GIAT, n = 7), recuperación activa (RA, n = 7) y descanso (GD, n = 7), con cada intervención realizada durante diez minutos. Las reevaluaciones ocurrieron después de 24, 48 y 72 horas después del protocolo de fatiga. Las revaluaciones ocurrieron después de 24, 48 y 72 horas del protocolo de fatiga. Abstract Spondyloarthritis is a group of chronic inflammatory systemic diseases characterized by axial and/or peripheral joints inflammation, as well as extra-articular manifestations. The classification axial spondyloarthritis is adopted when the spine and/or the sacroiliac joints are predominantly involved. This version of recommendations replaces the previous guidelines published in May 2013. A systematic literature review was performed, and two hundred thirty-seven studies were selected and used to formulate 29 recommendations answering 15 clinical questions, which were divided into four sections: diagnosis, non-pharmacological therapy, conventional drug therapy and biological therapy. For each recommendation the level of evidence supporting (highest available), the strength grade according to Oxford, and the degree of expert agreement (inter-rater reliability) is informed. These guidelines bring evidence-based information on clinical management of axial SpA patients, including, diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis.

Resumo Introdução: Os efeitos do taping patelar de McConnell (TPM) para o controle postural de mulheres com síndrome da dor patelofemoral (SDPF) são controversos. Objetivo: Avaliar os efeitos do TPM no controle postural estático unipodal e agachamento unipodal em mulheres com SDPF. Método: O estudo é um ensaio clínico randomizado-cego, que avaliou 40 mulheres com SDPF, e idade entre 18 e 35 anos. A amostra foi randomizada em dois grupos: grupo taping patelar de McConnell (GTPM) e grupo placebo (GP). Avaliou-se o controle postural em apoio estático e agachamento unipodal, no membro inferior com SDPF. O deslocamento do centro de pressão (CoP) foi registrado por plataforma de força, e analisado com os testes ANOVA two way e tamanho do efeito (Cohen’s d). Resultados: O controle postural estático não apontou diferenças significativas entre os grupos, tempos ou interação (P> 0,05); com pequeno tamanho de efeito. O controle postural em agachamento unipodal apresentou menor oscilação do centro de pressão para os dois grupos, com diferenças significativas em relação ao tempo de intervenção. No entanto, somente o GTPM demonstrou grande tamanho de efeito na frequência de oscilação e médio tamanho de efeito na velocidade de oscilação, durante o agachamento unipodal. Conclusão: O TPM e o placebo melhoraram o controle postural durante o agachamento unipodal. Deve-se observar que as mudanças e os tamanhos de efeito determinados para o GTPM foram significativamente maiores em relação ao GP, enfatizando sua importância clínica no tratamento de indivíduos com SDPF, durante atividades dinâmicas.

Abstract Introduction: The effects of McConnell patellar taping on the postural control of women with patellofemoral pain syndrome (PFPS) are controversial. Objective: To evaluate the effects of McConnell patellar taping on the static one-leg stance postural control and during squatting in women with PFPS. Method: A randomized, blinded clinical trial that comprised 40 women with PFPS, aged between 18 and 35 years. The study sample was allocated to two groups: McConnell patellar taping group (MPTG) and Placebo taping group (PTG). The analysis included the one-leg static support and squat on the lower limb with PFPS. The center of pressure (CoP) displacement parameters recorded by a force platform were analyzed using two-way ANOVA and Cohen’s d. Results: For the static postural control, no significant differences were found between the groups in terms of time or interaction (p>0.05); with small effect size. For the postural control during the one-leg squat, significant differences were found regarding the time of intervention for both groups, with reduced CoP parameters after the application of taping. However, the MPTG demonstrated a large effect size in frequency of oscillation and medium effect size in speed of oscillation, both during the squat exercise. Conclusion: McConnell patellar taping and placebo taping improved postural control during the one-leg squat. It should be observed that the changes and effect sizes determined for the MPTG were significantly higher compared to the PTG, emphasizing its clinical importance in the treatment of individuals with PFPS, during dynamic activities.
