ABSTRACT The objectives were to evaluate the effects of monensin and virginiamycin, alone or combined, on supplemented Nellore cattle grazing tropical grass during the rainy season. Two experiments were conducted simultaneously to evaluate intake, digestibility, CH4 emissions, blood parameters, performance, and carcass characteristics (Exp. 1), and ruminal fermentation and relative abundance of ruminal microorganisms (Exp. 2). Animals (n = 92 Exp. 1 and n = 12 Exp. 2) were distributed in a completely randomized design and allocated in twelve paddocks composed of Urochloa brizantha (A. Rich.) Stapf. cv. Xaraés. A protein-energetic supplementation of 3 g/kg of BW per day was provided to all animals. Supplements were: without additives (WA), monensin alone at 80 mg/kg of product (MN), virginiamycin alone at 150 mg/kg of product (VM), and monensin (80 mg/kg of product) combined with virginiamycin (150 mg/kg of product; MNVM). Treatments did not affect intakes of total dry matter (DM), supplement DM, and nutrients. However, the intakes of forage DM and crude protein decreased in cattle fed MNVM compared with animals fed WA, MN, and VM. Total volatile fatty acids increased in animals fed VM. Ruminal NH3-N decreased, and pH increased in animals fed MN, VM, and MNVM. Relative abundance of total F. succinogenes and S. ruminantium decreased and R. flavefaciens increased in animals fed MN and VM at d 118. Treatments had no effect on enteric CH4 emissions. The average daily gain (ADG) and total gain were greater in cattle fed MNVM than in cattle fed MN. Combination of monensin and virginiamycin altered the rumen microbial populations but did not decrease enteric CH4 emissions. However, it decreased forage dry matter intake without altering the ADG and total weight gain, leading to an increase in feed efficiency. Results from this study indicate an advantage in including feed additives combined in the diet of supplemented Nellore cattle grazing tropical grass during the rainy season.

Abstract Background: Favorable quality of life (QOL) has been associated with diets with better nutritional quality. Objective: To identify dietary patterns and estimate their association with QOL among university faculty. Method: Cross-sectional study with faculty members (n=112) from a university in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Information on socioeconomic, work, health, lifestyle, QOL, and psychological distress characteristics were obtained using a self-administered questionnaire. Dietary intake was assessed by means of a food frequency questionnaire. Dietary patterns were identified by factor analysis with principal component extraction and their association with QOL scores was estimated using multiple linear regression models. Results: 65% were women, 45% were ≥45 years old, and 43% were overweight. The mean general QOL score was 70.0. Four dietary patterns were identified: “snack”, “fast food”, “controlled”, and “basic”. The “controlled” pattern, including butter/margarine, bread, fruit juice, dairy, and caffeinated beverages, was directly associated with general QOL and “social relationships” and “psychological” domains, the latter was also directly associated with the “snack” pattern, composed by vegetables, meats, fruits, caffeinated beverages, and butter/margarine. Conclusions: The eating patterns that most explained faculty food consumption presented low nutritional quality, while the pattern with limited carbohydrate content was associated with better general QOL.

Resumo Introdução: A qualidade de vida (QDV) favorável tem sido associada a dietas de melhor qualidade nutricional. Objetivo: Identificar padrões alimentares e estimar sua associação com a QDV em docentes universitários. Método: Estudo seccional com 112 docentes de uma universidade do Rio de Janeiro. Foram obtidos dados sociodemográficos, laborais, de saúde, estilo de vida, QDV e desgaste psíquico utilizando questionário autopreenchido. Consumo alimentar foi avaliado por questionário de frequência alimentar. Os padrões alimentares foram identificados por análise fatorial com extração por componentes principais, e sua associação com a QDV foi estimada por regressão linear múltipla. Resultados: 65% eram mulheres, 45% tinham ≥45 anos de idade e 43% apresentavam excesso de peso. O escore médio de QDV geral foi 70. Foram identificados os padrões alimentares: “lanche”, “fast food”, “restrito” e “básico”. O padrão “restrito”, composto por manteiga/margarina, pão, suco de fruta, laticínios e bebidas cafeinadas, apresentou associação direta com QDV geral e domínios psicológico e relações sociais; o padrão “lanche”, composto por vegetais, carnes, frutas e bebidas cafeinadas, se associou diretamente ao domínio psicológico. Conclusões: Os padrões que mais explicaram a ingestão alimentar dos docentes eram de baixa qualidade nutricional. Padrão com teor reduzido de carboidratos associou-se com melhor QVD geral.

Abstract The Amazon hosts numerous fruit species, which are consumed by the local population and distributed by the local economy in the commerce markets, but most of them are unknown to the general population. Therefore, for a better understanding of the Amazon biome, the main objective of this review was to describe the physicochemical, nutritional and biological characteristics of the peach palm, highlighting its antioxidant potential. The peach palm tree is considered a polyvalent palm native to tropical Latin America, predominantly cultivated by small farmers in agroforestry systems, its fruits present high potential for functional food production because of the presence of bioactive compounds in its composition, and high nutritive value with considerable amounts of carbohydrates and lipids, as well as it provides an important source of vitamin A. Thus, an approach has been taken on the main topics for further studies that may benefit the industry and improve the local economy where these fruits are found. In view of this, the dissemination of works already performed with this fruit, strategically relevant, can stimulate new lines of research to consolidate this field for food, pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries.

ABSTRACT In order to determine the physiological quality of seed lots the electrical conductivity test has shown to be efficient due to its speed and ease of execution. The objective of this study was to evaluate the electrical conductivity test, considering water volumes, number of seeds and conditioning temperatures, in order to establish the methodology more suitable for batch stratification. Four batches of flax seed of the golden group were used. Initially, water content, germination, first germination count, seedling emergence and emergence speed index were determined. The electrical conductivity test was performed with the following variations: 25 and 50 seeds soaked in 25, 50 and 75 mL of distilled water at temperatures of 25 and 30 ° C, with readings 24 hours of imbibition. The most suitable condition for the electrical conductivity test of flax seeds is the soaking of 25 seeds in 75 mL of water at 30ºC.

RESUMO Para determinar a qualidade fisiológica de lotes de sementes o teste de condutividade elétrica tem se mostrado eficiente devido sua rapidez e facilidade na execução. Objetivou-se com o presente trabalho avaliar o teste de condutividade elétrica, considerando, lotes, número de sementes e volumes de água, buscando estabelecer a metodologia mais adequada para a estratificação de lotes. O trabalho foi conduzido no Laboratório de Análise de Sementes do Departamento de Ciências Agrárias da Universidade Estadual de Montes Claros (DCA/UNIMONTES), Janaúba, MG, utilizando-se quatro lotes de sementes de linhaça da safra 2017. Inicialmente, determinou-se, o teor de água, germinação, primeira contagem de germinação, emergência de plântulas, índice de velocidade de emergência, comprimento, massa fresca e seca de plântulas. O teste de condutividade elétrica foi realizado com 25 e 50 sementes embebidas em 25, 50 e 75 mL de água deionizada nas temperaturas de 25 e 30 °C, com leituras 24 horas de embebição. O teste de condutividade elétrica conduzido com quatro repetições de 25 sementes puras embebidas em 75 mL de água deionizada, na temperatura de 30 ºC, permitiu a separação dos lotes, mostrando-se promissor na avaliação da qualidade das sementes de linhaça.

Resumo Objetivos: analisar à luz da experiência positiva na perinatalidade, protocolos e diretrizes brasileiras acerca da atenção à saúde perinatal durante a pandemia da COVID-19. Métodos: pesquisa exploratória de análise documental. Na primeira fase, de 11 de abril a 14 de maio de 2020, foram realizadas as buscas com palavras-chave,encontrando-se 402 documentos. A segunda fase consistiu na leitura dos sete documentos selecionados e divisão do conteúdo nas categorias. A análise foi realizada à luz das orientações para a experiência positiva na perinatalidade da Organização Mundial da Saúde. Resultados: as diretrizes e protocolos fazem distinção do fluxo de atendimento para mulheres que apresentam ou não sintomas da COVID-19 e são atualizados à medida que novas evidências surgem.Constatou-se que dentre as diversas orientações para pré-natal, parto e puerpério, divergências em algumas categorias como clampeamento de cordão umbilical, contato pele a pele, banho do recém-nascido. Conclusões: a análise permitiu concluir que a maioria das recomendações estão em consonância com os preceitos para a experiência positiva na perinatalidade, mas carecem de adaptação ao contexto brasileiro.

Abstract Objectives: to analyze protocols and direct Brazilian women to prevent perinatal seizures during the CO VID-19 pandemic, based on the positive perinatal experience. Methods: exploratory analysis of document analysis. In the first phase, from April 11 to May 14, in order to search for words with keywords, 402 documents were found. The second phase consisted of reading the set of selected documents and dividing them into categories. The analysis was carried out in light of the guidelines for a positive perinatal experience of the World Health Organization. Results: as well as directing flow detection phase protocols to mice that show or do not receive COVID-19 symptoms and are being updated with new evidence of systemic evidence. It appears that there are several guidelines for prenatal, partial and puerperium, divergences in some documents for example umbilical cord clamping, skin-to-skin contact, newborn bath. Conclusions: analyze the permissible conclusions that most recommendations are in line with preconceived notions of positive perinatal experience, but is necessary to adaptation to the Brazilian context.

Abstract Introduction Mucociliary clearance (MCC) is the first line of defense of the pulmonary system. Mucociliary clearance impairment may lead to increased risk of respiratory infections, lung injury, pulmonary repair problems, chronic dysfunctions and progression of respiratory diseases. Objective To characterize the MCC of active and passive smokers and individuals with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and compare the MCC behaviors between men and women of different age groups. Methods Patients with COPD (current smokers and ex-smokers) and apparently healthy individuals (current smokers, passive smokers and nonsmokers) were evaluated. All of the subjects underwent lung function and MCC evaluation (saccharin transport test [STT]). Smokers (with or without COPD) were questioned about the smoking history. Results A total of 418 individuals aged 16 to 82 years old, of both genders, were evaluated. The STT values of active and passive smokers were statistically higher than those of the control group (p < 0.01). Men of the control group had lower values of STT than active smokers (9.7 ± 7.1 and 15.4 ± 10.1 minute, respectively, p < 0.01). In addition, higher MCC velocity was observed in women that are current smokers (11.7 ± 6.8 minute) compared with men (15.4 ± 10.1 minute) in this group (p = 0.01). Among the younger age groups (< 50 years old), only passive smokers presented higher STT in relation to the control group. Conclusion Passive and active smoking are factors that influence negatively the MCC, and passive smokers may present losses of this mechanism at a younger age. Additionally, male smokers present worse MCC than male nonsmokers.

RESUMO Objetivo Traduzir e adaptar culturalmente para o português brasileiro os questionários Self-Advocacy Checklist “I can”, Audiology Self-Advocacy Checklist - ELEMENTARY SCHOOL (ASAC-ES), Audiology Self-Advocacy Checklist - MIDDLE SCHOOL (ASAC-MS) e Audiology Self-Advocacy Checklist - HIGH SCHOOL (ASAC-HS), para avaliar os habilidades de autoadvocacia de usuários de dispositivos eletrônicos auditivos. Método A tradução foi realizada por meio de uma adaptação das diretrizes de Beaton et al. (2000). A versão pré-teste foi aplicada em dois grupos. O Grupo 1 (G1) foi composto por 14 professores de adolescentes com deficiência auditiva. O Grupo 2 (G2) foi composto por 15 pacientes adolescentes com deficiência auditiva, usuários de dispositivos eletrônicos auditivos, que fazem uso da linguagem oral como forma primária de comunicação. Resultados Os instrumentos foram traduzidos como Checklist de autoadvocacia “Eu consigo” e Checklists de Autoadvocacia em Audiologia - Ensino Fundamental I, Ensino Fundamental II e Ensino Médio. Para o G1, não houve relato de dificuldade em relação aos termos utilizados nos protocolos, porém, relataram dificuldades em relação ao preenchimento do progresso do estudante. Para o G2, as fonoaudiólogas que aplicaram os instrumentos em forma de entrevista não relataram dificuldade quanto ao uso do instrumento e sua aplicação. Após a aplicação da versão pré-teste, não houve necessidade de fazer alterações nos instrumentos, os quais foram apresentados como versão final. Conclusão As Checklist de autoadvocacia foram traduzidas e adaptadas culturalmente para o português brasileiro e são instrumentos válidos para a mensuração das habilidades de autoadvocacia de estudantes com deficiência auditiva em contexto clínico.

ABSTRACT Purpose To translate and cross-culturally adapt to Brazilian Portuguese four instruments for assessing self-advocacy skills of users of electronic hearing devices: the “I can” Self-Advocacy Checklist and three versions of the Audiology Self-Advocacy Checklist (ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, MIDDLE SCHOOL and HIGH SCHOOL). Methods The translation process was adapted from the guidelines of Beaton et al. (2000). The prefinal version was pre-tested in two groups. Group 1 (G1) was composed of 14 teachers of adolescents with hearing loss. Group 2 (G2) was composed of 15 adolescent patients with hearing loss, electronic assistive device users, who use oral language as their primary form of communication. Results The instruments were translated as Checklist de autoadvocacia “Eu consigo” e Checklists de Autoadvocacia em Audiologia - Ensino Fundamental I, Ensino Fundamental II and Ensino Médio. G1 did not report difficulties regarding the terms used in the checklists; however, they reported difficulties completing the student’s progress. The audiologists who used the checklists to interview G2 did not report difficulties regarding the use of the instrument. Therefore, after pre-testing the prefinal version, there was no need to make changes to the instruments, which were then presented as the final version. Conclusion All Self-Advocacy Checklists were translated and cross-culturally adapted into Brazilian Portuguese and are valid instruments to measure the self-advocacy skills of students with hearing loss in a clinical context.

ABSTRACT. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of soybean hulls inclusion in the silage of wet brewery waste. The experimental design was randomized in block, where the treatments were constituted by four levels of soybean hulls on the silage (0, 15, 25, and 35%), with three (silos) replicates per treatment. All data collected were subjected to ANOVA and subsequent polynomial regression at 5%. Soybean hulls inclusion caused a linear increase (p < 0.05) in the pH, dry matter, acid detergent fiber, neutral detergent fiber and total carbohydrates content of the silage. This inclusion also caused a significant reduction (p < 0.05) in the effluent losses and percentages of crude protein, fats, hemicellulose, non-fibrous carbohydrates and total digestible nutrients. Thus, it was concluded that soybean hulls can be used as an additive in the silage of wet brewery waste. Up to 35% of inclusion, there was a significant reduction in the effluent losses, a little increase on pH and enrichment of nutritional content, especially in the dry matter.

Resumo Objetivo: Identificar associação entre qualidade de vida e manifestações clínicas e sintomas de depressão em indivíduos com Lúpus Eritematoso Sistêmico. Métodos: Estudo quantitativo, realizado com 141 indivíduos com lúpus em acompanhamento no ambulatório de reumatologia de um hospital universitário. Os dados foram coletados mediante entrevistas, utilizando o WHOQOL- bref , a Escala Cognitiva de Depressão e o questionário de caracterização sociodemográfica. Para análise, os dados foram digitados em planilha no Microsoft Excel® e analisados no Statistical Analysis Software, utilizando o Odds Ratio para medida de estimativa do risco e ajustes de modelos de regressão logística binária para cada uma das covariáveis de interesse. A significância estatística foi estabelecida quando p<0,05. Resultados: Dos 141 participantes, 135 (95,7%) era do sexo feminino, 81 (57,9%) tinha mais de 40 anos e 89 (63,1%) tinha diagnóstico de lúpus há mais de cinco anos. A presença de algumas manifestações clínicas relacionadas à exacerbação da doença aumenta as chances de uma percepção insatisfatória da qualidade de vida em todos os domínios do WHOQOL- bref , sendo que o maior número de manifestações associadas à percepção insatisfatória da qualidade de vida foi observado no domínio saúde física, seguida pelo domínio saúde psicológica. A presença de sintomas de depressão também apresentou associação com percepção insatisfatória em todos os domínios do WHOQOL- bref Conclusão: As manifestações clínicas que caracterizam a atividade da doença, bem como a presença de complicações aumentam as chances de uma percepção insatisfatória da qualidade de vida e esta, por sua vez, aumenta as chances de o indivíduo apresentar sintomas depressivos.

Abstract Objective: To identify an association between quality of life and clinical manifestations and symptoms of depression in individuals with systemic lupus erythematosus. Methods: This is a quantitative study conducted with 141 individuals with lupus under follow-up at the rheumatology outpatient clinic of a university hospital. Data were collected through interviews using the WHOQOL-bref, the Cognitive Depression Scale and a sociodemographic characterization questionnaire. For analysis, data were entered in a spreadsheet in Microsoft Excel®and analyzed in Statistical Analysis Software, using Odds Ratio to measure risk estimation and adjustments of binary logistic regression models for each of the covariates of interest. Statistical significance was set at p < 0.05. Positive and negative predictive values were calculated for the diagnostic variables that presented statistical significance. Results: Of the 141 participants, 135 (95.7%) were female, 81 (57.9%) were over 40 years old and in 89 (63.1%) lupus had been diagnosed for more than five years. The presence of some clinical manifestations related to exacerbation of the disease increases the chances of an unsatisfactory perceived quality of life in all WHOQOL-bref domains, and the highest number of manifestations associated with unsatisfactory perceived quality of life was observed in the physical health domain, followed by the psychological health domain. The presence of symptoms of depression was also associated with unsatisfactory perception in all WHOQOL-bref domains. Conclusion: The clinical manifestations that characterize the activity of the disease, as well as the presence of complications, increase the chances of an unsatisfactory perceived quality of life and this, in turn, increases the chances of individuals presenting depressive symptoms.

Resumen Objetivo: Identificar la relación entre calidad de vida y manifestaciones clínicas y síntomas de depresión en individuos con lupus eritematoso sistémico. Métodos: Estudio cuantitativo, llevado a cabo con 141 individuos con lupus que realizan seguimiento en consultorios externos de reumatología de un hospital universitario. Los datos fueron recopilados mediante entrevistas, utilizando el WHOQOL- bref , la Escala Cognitiva de Depresión y el cuestionario de caracterización sociodemográfica. Para el análisis, los datos fueron digitalizados en planilla de Microsoft Excel® y analizados en Statistical Analysis Software , utilizando el Odds Ratio para la medida estimativa del riesgo y ajustes de modelos de regresión logística binaria para cada una de las covariables de interés. La significación estadística fue establecida cuando p<0,05. Resultados: De los 141 estudiantes, 135 (95,7 %) eran de sexo femenino, 81 (57,9 %) tenían más de 40 años y 89 (63,1 %) tenían diagnóstico de lupus hace más de cinco años La presencia de algunas manifestaciones clínicas relacionadas con la exacerbación de la enfermedad aumenta las chances de una percepción insatisfactoria de la calidad de vida en todos los dominios del WHOQOL- bref , donde el mayor número de manifestaciones relacionadas con la percepción insatisfactoria de la calidad de vida fue observado en el dominio salud física, seguido del dominio salud psicológica. La presencia de síntomas de depresión también presentó relación con la percepción insatisfactoria en todos los dominios del WHOQOL- bref. Conclusión: Las manifestaciones clínicas que caracterizan la actividad de la enfermedad, así como la presencia de complicaciones, aumentan las chances de una percepción insatisfactoria de la calidad de vida, que por su parte aumenta las chances de que el individuo presente síntomas depresivos.

ABSTRACT Objective: to evaluate the compliance of the nursing team's care practice in handling the central vascular catheter when changing dressings and equipment in an intensive care unit. Method: a descriptive, prospective, and observational research study. Data collection was conducted from January to March 2016 in an Intensive Care unit of a public hospital in Sergipe, northeastern Brazil. Direct observation of the professionals was conducted using a safe checklist. Descriptive statistics was used to determine the process indicators, and inferential statistics to determine the association between the variables, using the chi-square and Fisher's tests, with a 5% significance level. Results: 534 procedures corresponding to the exchange of equipment and dressings were observed, corresponding to 5,073 actions. As for the change of equipment, 2,136 actions were evaluated, most of them carried out by nursing technicians. Of the eight actions evaluated in each procedure, only two (25%) reached the desired compliance, with a positivity index between 90% and 99%. Regarding the dressing change, 2,937 actions were evaluated, all of which were performed by nurses. Of the eleven evaluated actions, eight (72%) achieved desired compliance, with a positivity index between 80% and 100%. Conclusion: the results analyzed are far from the desired compliances, demonstrating the need to implement strategies to ensure the safety culture during the care provided.

RESUMEN Objetivo: evaluar la conformidad de la práctica asistencial del equipo de Enfermería en la manipulación del catéter vascular central al momento de cambiar vendajes y equipos en una Unidad de Cuidados Intensivos. Método: investigación descriptiva, prospectiva y de observación. La recolección de datos tuvo lugar entre enero y marzo de 2016 en una Unidad de Cuidados Intensivos de un hospital público de Sergipe, noreste de Brasil. Se realizó una observación directa de los profesionales por medio de una checklist de verificación segura. Se utilizó análisis descriptivo para determinar los indicadores de proceso, y estadística inferencial para determinar la asociación entre las variables, usando las pruebas de chi-cuadrado y de Fisher, con un nivel de significancia del 5%. Resultados: se observaron 534 procedimientos correspondientes al cambio de equipos y vendajes, lo que correspondió a 5.073 acciones. En relación al cambio de equipos, se evaluaron 2.136 acciones, la mayoría realizadas por técnicos en Enfermería. De las ocho acciones evaluadas en cada procedimiento, solamente dos (25%) alcanzaron la conformidad deseada, con un índice de positividad del 90% al 99%. En relación con el cambio de vendajes, se evaluaron 2.937 acciones, todas ejecutadas por Enfermeros. De las once acciones evaluadas, ocho (72%) alcanzaron la conformidad deseada, con un índice de positividad del 80% al 100%. Conclusión: los resultados analizados distan de los niveles de conformidad deseados, lo que demuestra la necesidad de implementar estrategias para garantizar la cultura de la seguridad durante la atención provista.

RESUMO Objetivo: avaliar a conformidade da prática assistencial da equipe de enfermagem no manuseio do cateter vascular central na troca de curativos e de equipos em unidade de terapia intensiva. Método: pesquisa descritiva, prospectiva, observacional. A coleta de dados ocorreu de janeiro a março de 2016 em uma unidade de terapia intensiva de um hospital público do Sergipe, nordeste do Brasil. Realizada observação direta dos profissionais utilizando checklist de verificação segura. A análise descritiva foi utilizada para determinação dos indicadores de processo, e a estatística inferencial para determinar a associação entre as variáveis, usando os testes de Qui-Quadrado e Fisher, com nível de significância de 5%. Resultados: observados 534 procedimentos correspondentes a troca de equipos e curativos, correspondendo a 5073 ações. Quanto à troca de equipo 2.136 ações foram avaliadas, a maioria realizadas por técnicos em Enfermagem. Das oito ações avaliadas em cada procedimento, apenas duas (25%) alcançaram conformidade almejada, com índice de positividade entre 90% e 99%. Referente a troca de curativo, 2.937 ações foram avaliadas, sendo todas executadas por Enfermeiros. Das onze ações avaliadas, oito (72%) alcançaram conformidade desejada, com índice de positividade entre 80% e 100%. Conclusão: os resultados analisados estão distantes das conformidades almejadas, demonstrando a necessidade de implementação estratégias para garantir a cultura de segurança durante a assistência prestada.

Resumo O mogno africano é uma espécie arbórea muito valorizada pela indústria, pois sua madeira de alta qualidade possui grande potencial econômico tanto para o mercado interno quanto para o mercado externo. Apesar da alta valorização, os estudos e pesquisas sobre a espécie são escassos, sendo de extrema importância aprofundar o conhecimento. O objetivo do estudo foi avaliar o efeito de diferentes temperaturas sobre a germinação e vigor de sementes de mogno africano em condição de laboratório. O delineamento experimental utilizado foi o inteiramente casualizado, em esquema fatorial 4x5, sendo 4 lotes de sementes e cinco regimes de temperatura (20, 25, 30, 35°C constantes e 20-30°C alternada), com quatro repetições de vinte e cinco sementes por tratamento. Inicialmente determinou-se o teor de água das sementes e em seguida realizou-se os seguintes testes: germinação, primeira contagem da germinação, comprimento, massa fresca e seca de plântulas. As temperaturas de 25 e 30ºC constantes são favoráveis à germinação e ao vigor das sementes de mogno africano. Temperaturas de 20 e 35ºC constante e 20-30ºC alternadas são prejudiciais ao processo germinativo, comprometendo o desempenho fisiológico das sementes. Nas temperaturas favoráveis à germinação, as sementes dos lotes 1 e 3 mostraram-se com qualidade fisiológica superior aos demais.

Abstract African mahogany is a tree species highly valued by industry because its high quality wood has great economic potential both for the domestic market and for the foreign market. Despite the high valuation, the studies and research on the species are scarce, being extremely important to deepen its knowledge. The objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of different temperatures on the germination and vigor of African mahogany seeds. The experimental design was a completely randomized design, in a 4x5 factorial scheme, with four seed lots and five temperature regimes (20, 25, 30, 35°C constant and 20-30°C alternating), with four replications of twenty five seeds per treatment. Temperatures of 25 and 30°C are favorable to the germination and vigor of African mahogany seeds. Temperatures of 20 and 35ºC constant and 20-30ºC alternating are harmful to the germination process, compromising the physiological performance of the seeds. At temperatures favorable to germination, the seeds of lots 1 and 3 showed higher physiological quality than the others.

Resumo Objetivo: Caracterizar o frênulo lingual de recém-nascidos a termo, utilizando dois protocolos diferentes e verificar a relação do frênulo lingual com o aleitamento materno. Método: A amostra não probabilística foi constituída por 449 binômios mãe/bebê. Para a avaliação anatomofuncional do frênulo, utilizou-se o protocolo de avaliação do frênulo lingual para bebês “Teste da Linguinha” e o Bristol Tongue Assessment Tool. A mamada foi avaliada com o protocolo proposto pelo UNICEF. Foram criados escores (bom, regular, ruim) para avaliar cada aspecto da mamada a ser observada. Os resultados foram analisados através de estatísticas descritivas e inferenciais e testes de associação (Qui-quadrado de Pearson e Exato de Fisher). Resultados: O estudo mostrou que 14 bebês apresentaram alteração de frênulo lingual, nos quais três com dificuldade durante a sucção, necessitando de frenotomia na primeira semana de vida e 11 sem dificuldades durante a amamentação. Quanto à avaliação da mamada, 410 binômios mãe/bebê apresentaram o escore bom, 36 regular e 3 ruim. Houve associação estatisticamente significativa entre o protocolo “Teste da Linguinha” e amamentação (p = 0,028) e entre o protocolo Bristol Tongue Assessment Tool e amamentação (p = 0,028). Conclusão: Alterações no frênulo lingual estão associadas a interferências na qualidade da amamentação, sendo importante a avaliação do frênulo lingual em recém-nascidos.

Abstract Objective: To characterize the lingual frenulum of full-term newborns using two different protocols and to assess the association of the lingual frenulum with breastfeeding. Methods: This non-probabilistic sample consisted of 449 mother/baby binomials. For the anatomo-functional evaluation of the frenulum, the Neonatal Tongue Screening Test and the Bristol Tongue Assessment Tool were used for the evaluation of the lingual frenulum. Breastfeeding was evaluated using the protocol proposed by UNICEF. Scores were created (good, fair, poor) to evaluate every aspect of the breastfeeding to be observed. The results were analyzed through descriptive and inferential statistics and association tests (Pearson's chi-squared and Fisher's exact test). Results: The study showed that 14 babies had a lingual frenulum alteration, of whom three had difficulties during suction, requiring frenotomy in the first week of life, whereas 11 had no difficulties during breastfeeding. Regarding the breastfeeding evaluation, 410 mother/baby binomials had good, 36 regular, and three had bad scores. There was a statistically significant association between the tongue-tie test protocol and breastfeeding (p = 0.028) and between the Bristol Tongue Assessment Tool protocol and breastfeeding (p = 0.028). Conclusion: Alterations in the lingual frenulum are associated with interferences in the quality of breastfeeding and thus, evaluation of the lingual frenulum in newborns is important.

RESUMO Objetivo: avaliar a conformidade da prática assistencial da equipe de enfermagem no manuseio do cateter vascular central na troca de curativos e de equipos em unidade de terapia intensiva. Método: pesquisa descritiva, prospectiva, observacional. A coleta de dados ocorreu de janeiro a março de 2016 em uma unidade de terapia intensiva de um hospital público do Sergipe, nordeste do Brasil. Realizada observação direta dos profissionais utilizando checklist de verificação segura. A análise descritiva foi utilizada para determinação dos indicadores de processo, e a estatística inferencial para determinar a associação entre as variáveis, usando os testes de Qui-Quadrado e Fisher, com nível de significância de 5%. Resultados: observados 534 procedimentos correspondentes a troca de equipos e curativos, correspondendo a 5073 ações. Quanto à troca de equipo 2.136 ações foram avaliadas, a maioria realizadas por técnicos em Enfermagem. Das oito ações avaliadas em cada procedimento, apenas duas (25%) alcançaram conformidade almejada, com índice de positividade entre 90% e 99%. Referente a troca de curativo, 2.937 ações foram avaliadas, sendo todas executadas por Enfermeiros. Das onze ações avaliadas, oito (72%) alcançaram conformidade desejada, com índice de positividade entre 80% e 100%. Conclusão: os resultados analisados estão distantes das conformidades almejadas, demonstrando a necessidade de implementação estratégias para garantir a cultura de segurança durante a assistência prestada.

ABSTRACT Objective: to evaluate the compliance of the nursing team's care practice in handling the central vascular catheter when changing dressings and equipment in an intensive care unit. Method: a descriptive, prospective, and observational research study. Data collection was conducted from January to March 2016 in an Intensive Care unit of a public hospital in Sergipe, northeastern Brazil. Direct observation of the professionals was conducted using a safe checklist. Descriptive statistics was used to determine the process indicators, and inferential statistics to determine the association between the variables, using the chi-square and Fisher's tests, with a 5% significance level. Results: 534 procedures corresponding to the exchange of equipment and dressings were observed, corresponding to 5,073 actions. As for the change of equipment, 2,136 actions were evaluated, most of them carried out by nursing technicians. Of the eight actions evaluated in each procedure, only two (25%) reached the desired compliance, with a positivity index between 90% and 99%. Regarding the dressing change, 2,937 actions were evaluated, all of which were performed by nurses. Of the eleven evaluated actions, eight (72%) achieved desired compliance, with a positivity index between 80% and 100%. Conclusion: the results analyzed are far from the desired compliances, demonstrating the need to implement strategies to ensure the safety culture during the care provided.

RESUMEN Objetivo: evaluar la conformidad de la práctica asistencial del equipo de Enfermería en la manipulación del catéter vascular central al momento de cambiar vendajes y equipos en una Unidad de Cuidados Intensivos. Método: investigación descriptiva, prospectiva y de observación. La recolección de datos tuvo lugar entre enero y marzo de 2016 en una Unidad de Cuidados Intensivos de un hospital público de Sergipe, noreste de Brasil. Se realizó una observación directa de los profesionales por medio de una checklist de verificación segura. Se utilizó análisis descriptivo para determinar los indicadores de proceso, y estadística inferencial para determinar la asociación entre las variables, usando las pruebas de chi-cuadrado y de Fisher, con un nivel de significancia del 5%. Resultados: se observaron 534 procedimientos correspondientes al cambio de equipos y vendajes, lo que correspondió a 5.073 acciones. En relación al cambio de equipos, se evaluaron 2.136 acciones, la mayoría realizadas por técnicos en Enfermería. De las ocho acciones evaluadas en cada procedimiento, solamente dos (25%) alcanzaron la conformidad deseada, con un índice de positividad del 90% al 99%. En relación con el cambio de vendajes, se evaluaron 2.937 acciones, todas ejecutadas por Enfermeros. De las once acciones evaluadas, ocho (72%) alcanzaron la conformidad deseada, con un índice de positividad del 80% al 100%. Conclusión: los resultados analizados distan de los niveles de conformidad deseados, lo que demuestra la necesidad de implementar estrategias para garantizar la cultura de la seguridad durante la atención provista.

RESUMO Objetivo verificar a efetividade da intervenção com atividades lúdicas grupais que visam desenvolver a autoadvocacia e a autocidadania como prática de empoderamento de adolescentes com deficiência auditiva. Métodos trata-se de um estudo experimental pré e pós-intervenção, de abordagem quantitativa e qualitativa. Participaram quatro adolescentes com idades entre 12 e 17 anos, usuários de aparelho de amplificação sonora individual e/ou implante coclear, oralizados. Foram realizados cinco encontros presenciais, nos quais foram abordados temas relacionados à autoadvocacia, por meio de atividades lúdicas. Os instrumentos Checklist de Autoadvocacia “Eu consigo” e o Questionário de participação em sala de aula foram aplicados na pré e pós- intervenção. Foram aplicados o Inventário de Habilidades Sociais para Aadolescentes (IHS-Adolescente) e a Escala Wechsler Abreviada de Inteligência. Os dados foram analisados de forma qualitativa e quantitativa. Resultados No Inventário de Habilidades Sociais para Adolescentes, para frequência, todos os participantes foram classificados como abaixo da média ou média inferior. No teste de Escala Wechsler Abreviada de Inteligência, observando o dado de quociente de inteligência de execução, todos ficaram na média. Houve diferenças na comparação dos resultados pré e pós-intervenção do Checklist de Autoadvocacia “Eu consigo”, principalmente no domínio compreensão da audição e da perda auditiva e uso dos dispositivos auditivos. No Questionário de participação em sala de aula, foi observada piora em alguns domínios, como compreensão dos professores e aspectos negativos. Conclusão O programa de intervenção com a estruturação proposta neste estudo foi eficiente para desenvolver as habilidades de autoadvocacia e autocidadania para o empoderamento de adolescentes com deficiência auditiva.

ABSTRACT Purpose To verify the effectiveness of an intervention with recreational activities that aim to develop self-advocacy and citizenship as a practice of empowerment for adolescents with hearing impairment. Methods This is a pre- and post-intervention experimental study with a quantitative and qualitative approach. Four oral hard-of-hearing adolescents aged between 12 and 17 years, users of hearing aids and/or cochlear implants, participated in this study. Five face-to-face meetings were held, in which topics related to self-advocacy were addressed through recreational activities. The Self-advocacy Checklist “I can” and the Classroom Participation Questionnaire (CPQ) were applied pre- and post-intervention. The Social Skills Inventory for Adolescents (IHSA-Del-Prette) and the Wechsler Abbreviated Scale of Intelligence (WASI) were also used. The data were analyzed utilizing qualitative and quantitative methods. Results In the Frequency Indicator of the IHSA-Del-Prette, all participants were classified as low average or below average. In the WASI, which analyzed performance IQ, all participants were classified as average. Differences were observed when comparing the Self-advocacy Checklist “I can” pre- and post-intervention, especially regarding hearing and hearing loss and the use of hearing devices. In the CPQ, worsening was observed in some domains, such as teachers' understanding and negative aspects. Conclusion The intervention program with the structure proposed in this study was efficient in developing self-advocacy and citizenship skills to empower adolescents with hearing impairment.

ABSTRACT. This study aimed to evaluate the use of inoculant on silage of elephant grass, wet brewery waste and buriti meal at different silo opening times. The experimental silage tested was composed of 50% elephant grass, 30% wet brewery waste, and 20% buriti meal. The experimental design was randomized block in a factorial arrangement (2 x 4), where the treatments consisted of the use or not of inoculant during silage processing, and four silo opening times (7, 14, 21, and 28 days). Data collected were firstly subjected to ANOVA and subsequent Tukey’s test. Results were considered significant at p ≤ 0.05. The use of inoculant in silage production provided more acidic pH (p < 0.05) and higher (p < 0.05) effluent losses. Longer silo opening times resulted in more alkaline pH (p < 0.05) and higher (p < 0.05) effluent losses. The use of inoculant in silage production and longer silo opening times provided higher (p < 0.05) content of ash, crude protein, and fats, and lower (p < 0.05) content of dry matter and fiber (neutral and acid detergent). However, there was no interaction between the factors evaluated in this study. It was concluded that the inoculant may be used in the production of elephant grass silages, wet brewery waste, and buriti meal, providing a more acidic pH, higher effluent losses, lower contents of dry matter and fiber, and higher nutritional content. As the opening time was extended up to 28 days, there was more alkaline pH, higher effluent losses, lower dry matter and fiber content, and higher nutritional content.
