Resumo A avaliação do atraso de colheita de sementes de soja pode auxiliar na seleção de cultivares mais resistentes à deterioração no campo. O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a qualidade fisiológica e sanitária de sementes de três cultivares de soja, submetidas ao atraso da colheita. Sementes das cultivares ‘NS 5959’, ‘BMX Potência’ e ‘TMG 1175’ foram colhidas em quatro épocas (R8; R8 + 10 dias; R8 + 20 dias e R8 + 30 dias) e avaliadas quanto ao grau de umidade, germinação, emergência, crescimento de plântulas e incidência de fungos. Houve redução na germinação e vigor das sementes das diferentes cultivares de soja, principalmente quando colhidas em R8 + 20 e R8 + 30 dias, devido à deterioração em campo. Além disso, o atraso na colheita proporcionou maior incidência de fungos nas sementes, principalmente Phomopsis sp., Aspergillus sp. e Cercospora kikuchii. Em geral, a cultivar ‘TMG 1175’ foi mais resistente à deterioração das sementes em campo causada pelo atraso de colheita.

Abstract The assessment of delayed harvesting of soybean seeds may help in the selection of cultivars more resistant to deterioration in the field. This work aimed to evaluate the physiological and sanitary quality of seeds of three soybean cultivars submitted to harvest delay. Seeds of the cultivars ‘NS 5959’, ‘BMX Potência’, and ‘TMG 1175’ were harvested in four periods (R8; R8 + 10 days; R8 + 20 days, and R8 + 30 days) and evaluated for the moisture content, germination, emergence, seedling growth, and fungal incidence. There was a reduction in germination and vigor of the seeds of the different soybean cultivars, especially when harvested at R8 + 20 and R8 + 30 days, due to deterioration in the field. In addition, the delay in harvest provided a higher incidence of fungi in the seeds, mainly Phomopsis sp., Aspergillus sp., and Cercospora kikuchii. In general, the cultivar ‘TMG 1175’ was more resistant to seed deterioration in the field caused by delayed harvesting.

ABSTRACT. Weathering deterioration affects seed quality, especially in areas with excessive rainfall. This study aimed to evaluate the oxidative stress, physiological quality, and protein metabolism of seeds of different soybean cultivars under weathering deterioration at the pre-harvest phase. Six soybean cultivars (BMX Apolo, DM 6563, NS 5959, NA 5909, BMX Potência, and TMG 1175) were subjected to simulated rainfall at the R8 stage. Each level was divided into two applications at 72-h intervals: 60 mm (30 + 30), 120 mm (60 + 60), and 180 mm (90 + 90). Then, the seeds were harvested and evaluated for physiological potential, antioxidative enzymes, hydrogen peroxide, malondialdehyde, proteins, and protease activity. The simulated rainfall allowed the variation in seed moisture, promoting a significant reduction in germination and seed vigor, especially at 120 and 180 mm levels. There were also reductions in antioxidative enzyme activity with weathering deterioration (mainly for catalase, ascorbate peroxidase, and peroxidase), accumulation of hydrogen peroxide and malondialdehyde, and reductions in protein content and protease activity. The proposed rainfall system is efficient in inducing weathering deterioration during the pre-harvest phase and its deleterious effects. Weathering deterioration in soybean seeds in the pre-harvest stage is directly influenced by genotype.

Resumen El objetivo de este estudio fue evaluar la interferencia y determinar el nivel de daño económico (NDE) de escoba dura infestando diferentes cultivares de soja. Los tratamientos fueron cultivares de soja (NS 6909, NA 5909, DM 5958, Brasmax ELITE, Brasmax LANÇA y SYN 13561) y las densidades de escoba dura (0, 2, 3, 4, 9, 15, 16, 23, 22 y 58; 0, 2, 3, 3, 6, 6, 10, 11, 18 y 47; 0, 3, 4, 7, 8, 10, 11, 13, 15 y 24; 0, 1, 4, 6, 12, 18, 19, 31, 44 y 50; 0, 4, 5, 6, 9, 13, 17, 20, 20 y 47; e 0, 2, 3, 5, 9, 11, 15, 18, 29 y 30 plantas m-2), respectivamente, para cada cultivar. Los cultivares NS 6909, NA 5909 y Brasmax Lança son más competitivos que DM 5958, Brasmax Elite y SYN 13561. Los valores de NDE varían de 0,55 a 0,95 plantas m-2 para los cultivares NS 6909, NA 5909 y Brasmax Lança, que mostraron mejor competitividad. Los valores más bajos de NDE varían de 0,26 a 0,61 plantas m-2 para los cultivares DM 5958, Brasmax Elite y SYN 13561, los cuales mostraron menor competitividad con la maleza.

Abstract This study aimed to assess the interference and threshold level (TL) of Sida rhombifolia, the arrowleaf sida, competing with different soybean cultivars. The treatments comprised different soybean cultivars (NS 6909, NA 5909, DM 5958, Brasmax ELITE, Brasmax LANÇA, and SYN 13561) and densities of arrowleaf sida plants per square meter (m-2) (0, 2, 3, 4, 9, 15, 16, 23, 22, and 58; 0, 2, 3, 3, 6, 6, 10, 11, 18, and 47; 0, 3, 4, 7, 8, 10, 11, 13, 15, and 24; 0, 1, 4, 6, 12, 18, 19, 31, 44, and 50; 0, 4, 5, 6, 9, 13, 17, 20, 20, and 47; 0, 2, 3, 5, 9, 11, 15, 18, 29, and 30, respectively) for each cultivar. Cultivars NS 6909, NA 5909, and Brasmax Lança were more competitive than DM 5958, Brasmax Elite, and SYN 13561. The TL values varied from 0.55 to 0.95 plants m-2 for cultivars NS 6909, NA 5909, and Brasmax Lança, which exhibited greater competitiveness with arrowleaf sida. The lowest values of TL varied from 0.26 to 0.61 plants m-2 for cultivars DM 5958, Brasmax Elite, and SYN 13561, which had less competitiveness with weed.

Resumo Objetivos O presente estudo tem como objetivo caracterizar o equilíbrio sagital (SB, na sigla em inglês) espinhal em adultos jovens com nódulos de Schmorl (NS). Métodos Este é um estudo transversal de uma amostra composta por 47 adultos jovens. Ressonância magnética (RM) lombar foi usada para separar os pacientes em um grupo com NS e um grupo controle. Radiografias da coluna vertebral em pé foram usadas para comparar os parâmetros espinopélvicos do SB entre os grupos: eixo vertical sagital, cifose torácica, lordose lombar (LL), incidência pélvica (PI, na sigla em inglês), inclinação pélvica (PT, na sigla em inglês) e inclinação sacral (SS, na sigla em inglês). Resultados Os valores de LL e SS foram significativamente menores nos pacientes com NS em comparação com o grupo controle (54,5° versus 64,3°; 36,2° versus 41,4°, respectivamente). Não foram observadas diferenças significativas nos demais parâmetros. Os dois grupos apresentaram correlações significativas entre LL e SS, PI e PT e PI e SS. Conclusões Adultos jovens com NS apresentam modificações associadas ao SB, principalmente valores menores de LL e SS, em comparação com o grupo controle. Este perfil mais plano assemelha-se ao observado em pacientes com lombalgia e patologia discal em estágio inicial. Acreditamos que o NS seja um achado clínico relevante que deve levar ao estudo do SB de um paciente por poder revelar variações associadas aos primeiros estágios de degeneração discal. Abstract Objectives The present study aims to characterize the spinal balance (SB) in young adults with Schmorl nodes (SN). Methods A cross-sectional study was conducted on a sample of 47 young adults. Lumbar magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) was used to divide the patients into an SN group and a control group. Standing full spine radiographs were used to compare the spinopelvic SB parameters between groups: sagittal vertical axis, thoracic kyphosis, lumbar lordosis (LL), pelvic incidence (PI), pelvic tilt (PT), and sacral slope (SS). Results The LL and SS values were significantly lower in patients with SN when compared with the control group (54.5° versus 64.3°; 36.2° versus 41.4°, respectively). No significant differences were observed for the other parameters. Significant correlations were found in both groups between LL and SS; PI and PT; and PI and SS. Conclusions Young adults with SN have associated SB modifications, particularly lower LL and SS values, when compared with a control group. This flatter profile resembles that observed in patients with lower back pain and early disc pathology. We believe that SNs are relevant clinical findings that should prompt the study of the SB of a patient, as it may uncover variations associated with early disc degeneration. Level of Evidence III

RESUMO O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar se a inibição da biossíntese de giberelinas afeta as características morfofisiológicas das espécies Capsicum baccatum e Capsicum annuum destinadas ao uso ornamental, cultivadas em vasos em casa de vegetação. As plantas foram conduzidas em vaso de 2,7 L em casa de vegetação, organizadas em delineamento inteiramente casualizado, com esquema fatorial 2x4 constituído por duas variedades de pimenteiras “Chapéu-de-frade” (C. baccatum) e “Vulcão” (C. annuum) e 4 concentrações de paclobutrazol (PBZ) (0; 25; 50 e 75 mg L-1) e quatro repetições. Aos 30, 45 e 60 dias após a aplicação do inibidor foram realizadas avaliações. A restrição da biossíntese de giberelinas promove alterações morfológicas que elevam a longevidade e vigor de folhas, e induz um status hídrico que favorece o vigor das pimenteiras envasadas. Para a cv. Chapéu-de-frade, a drástica redução do limbo foliar na parte superior resultante da ação do regulador vegetal em relação a base da copa, resultou em uma copa com menor atributo ornamental.

ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to evaluate whether the inhibition of gibberellin biosynthesis affects the morphophysiological traits of potted ornamental Capsicum baccatum and Capsicum annuum growing under shade house conditions. Plants maintained in 2.7 L pots were arranged in a completely randomized design in a 2x4 factorial consisting of two pepper cultivars Chapéu-de-frade (C. baccatum) and Vulcão (C. annuum) and four paclobutrazol (PBZ) concentrations (0, 25, 50, and 75 mg L-1) with four replicates. At 30, 45, and 60 days after treatment, the plants were analyzed, and data were submitted to the analysis of general and regression variance. Gibberellin biosynthesis inhibition affected the morphophysiological and biochemical evaluations. For most evaluated traits, no interaction between factors was observed, suggesting that both pepper cultivars had a similar response to the growth regulator. PBZ-induced inhibition of gibberellin biosynthesis improved plant water status, which enhanced the vigor of potted pepper plants. The dramatic reduction of upper leaves promoted by plant growth regulators compared to basal ones negatively impacted the visual ornamental aspect of Chapéu-de-frade peppers.

Abstract Bacteriocins are antimicrobial peptides expressed by bacteria through ribosomal activity. In this study, we analyzed the diversity of bacteriocin-like genes in the Tucuruí-HPP using a whole-metagenome shotgun sequencing approach. Three layers of the water column were analyzed (photic, aphotic and sediment). Detection of bacteriocin-like genes was performed with blastx using the BAGEL4 database as subject sequences. In order to calculate the abundance of bacteriocin-like genes we also determined the number of 16S rRNA genes using blastn. Taxonomic analysis was performed using RAST server and the metagenome was assembled using IDBA-UD in order to recover the full sequence of a zoocin which had its three-dimensional structure determined. The photic zone presented the highest number of reads affiliated to bacteriocins. The most abundant bacteriocins were sonorensin, Klebicin D , pyocin and colicin. The zoocin model was composed of eight anti-parallel β-sheets and two α-helices with a Zn2+ ion in the active site. This model was considerably stable during 10 ns of molecular dynamics simulation. We observed a high diversity of bacteriocins in the Tucuruí-HPP, demonstrating that the environment is an inexhaustible source for prospecting these molecules. Finally, the zoocin model can be used for further studies of substrate binding and molecular mechanisms involving peptidoglycan degradation.

Abstract Understanding the effects of different production systems on arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) can help to interpret interactions between their components and to define management strategies. As a result, our study was conducted on soils under three coffee production systems (one homogeneous and two heterogeneous) and in a native forest located in the Bahia state, Brazil. This study aimed to answer the following questions: 1) Does the organization and management of the coffee production system affect the occurrence and diversity of AMF?; and 2) Is the seasonality effect similar between systems? To do so, soil samples (0-10 cm depth) were collected at two times of the year (rainy and dry). Number of spores (NS) and average richness did not show differences between the systems, only between seasons. There was a reduction in NS in the dry season (1.4 and 2.7 spores g-1 soil) in relation to the rainy season (3.8 to 12.5 spores g-1 soil). The influence of coffee production systems was observed in the presence and absence of some AMF species. The AMF community was shown to be related to the plant species composition of the system, which was reflected in the dissimilarity of heterogeneous systems in relation to the coffee monoculture system.

Resumo: A deterioração por umidade na fase de pré-colheita prejudica a obtenção de sementes de soja de alta qualidade. Em seleção de genótipos, é comum a realização de vários testes para inferir sobre qualidade de sementes, sendo que a estatística multivariada pode auxiliar nas interpretações. O objetivo do trabalho foi avaliar a eficiência dos métodos de estatística multivariada de componentes principais (PCA) e discriminantes canônicos (CDA) na avaliação da tolerância de sementes de diferentes cultivares de soja à deterioração por umidade na fase de pré-colheita, em condições de casa de vegetação. Foram produzidas sementes de seis cultivares de soja (DM 6563, BMX Apolo, BMX Potência, NA 5909, NS 5959 e TMG 1175). Na fase de pré-colheita, foram aplicados diferentes níveis de precipitação simulada (0, 60, 120 e 180 mm). As sementes foram colhidas e avaliadas quanto a análises fisiológicas, físicas e bioquímicas e os dados obtidos foram analisados pelas técnicas PCA e CDA. Os resultados mostraram que a PCA e a CDA são eficientes para avaliação da tolerância à deterioração por umidade em sementes de soja. Na pré-seleção de genótipos para essa característica, a PCA e a CDA auxiliaram na recomendação dos testes de primeira contagem de germinação, envelhecimento acelerado, tetrazólio, porcentagem de sementes com enrugamento no tegumento, teor de proteínas e atividade da protease. A PCA e a CDA também auxiliaram na identificação das cultivares DM 6563 e BMX Potência como mais suscetíveis e as cultivares NA 5909 e TMG 1175 como mais tolerantes à deterioração por umidade na fase de pré-colheita.

Abstract: Weathering deterioration in the pre-harvest phase impairs high-quality soybean seed production. The performance of several tests to infer seed quality is common in genotype selection, and multivariate statistics can assist in the interpretations. This study aimed to assess the efficiency of the principal component analysis (PCA) and canonical discriminant analysis (CDA) multivariate statistical methods in assessing the tolerance of seeds of different soybean cultivars to weathering deterioration in the pre-harvest phase under greenhouse conditions. Seeds of six soybean cultivars (DM 6563, BMX Apolo, BMX Potência, NA 5909, NS 5959, and TMG 1175) were produced. Different simulated precipitation levels (0, 60, 120, and 180 mm) were applied in the pre-harvest phase. The seeds were collected and assessed for physiological, physical, and biochemical analyses and the data were analyzed by PCA and CDA techniques. The results showed that PCA and CDA are efficient for assessing the tolerance to weathering deterioration in soybean seeds. PCA and CDA assisted in the recommendation of the tests first germination count, accelerated aging, tetrazolium, percentage of seeds with seed coat wrinkling, protein content, and protease activity in the pre-selection of genotypes for weathering deterioration. PCA and CDA also helped to identify the cultivars DM 6563 and BMX Potência as more susceptible and NA 5909 and TMG 1175 as more tolerant to weathering deterioration in the pre-harvest phase.

Resumen Se estudió el efecto del campo magnético (0.3 T) sobre la concentración, distribución de tamaños en suspensión y potencial zeta de nanopartículas coloidales de oro y plata, obtenidas al considerar la técnica de ablación láser pulsada en agua bidestilada. El campo magnético fue transversal a la dirección de incidencia de la radiación láser y paralelo a la superficie del blanco sumergido. Se utilizó un laser Nd:YAG, emitiendo pulsos de 1064 nm de longitud de onda, 10 ns de duración, razón de repetición de 10 Hz y 37 mJ de energía. Los coloides fueron caracterizados al considerar las técnicas: espectroscopia de emisión por plasma de acoplamiento inductivo, espectroscopia ultravioleta-visible, esparcimiento dinámico de luz y potencial zeta. Los análisis de concentración demostraron que aplicar campo magnético de 0.3 T durante la síntesis de nanopartículas conlleva a obtener mayor concentración. Aplicar campo magnético conllevó a incrementar en once por ciento la concentración del coloide con nanopartículas de oro y en cinco por ciento la concentración del coloide con nanopartículas de plata. Los espectros de absorción obtenidos son característicos de nanopartículas esféricas. Al analizar el efecto del campo magnético en la distribución de tamaños hidrodinámicos de las nanopartículas y en el potencial zeta, no se evidenció cambios significativos. El confinamiento magnético del plasma inducido por ablación láser ocasionó cambios en las características de los coloides.

Abstract The effect of the magnetic field of 0.3 T on the concentration, distribution of sizes in suspension, and zeta potential of colloidal gold and colloidal silver nanoparticles, obtained by considering the pulsed laser ablation in double distilled water was studied. The magnetic field was transverse to the direction of incidence of the laser radiation and parallel to the surface of a submerged target. An Nd: YAG laser was used (1064 nm in wavelength, 10 ns in duration, a repetition rate of 10 Hz, and 37 mJ of energy) to ablate targets. The colloids were characterized by inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectroscopy, ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy, dynamic light scattering, and zeta potential. Concentration analysis suggested that applying a magnetic field of 0.3 T during nanoparticle synthesis leads to higher concentration. Applying magnetic field led to an eleven percent increase in the concentration of the colloid with gold nanoparticles and a five percent increase in the concentration of the colloidal silver nanoparticles. The absorption spectra suggested the presence of spherical nanoparticles. When analyzing the effect of the magnetic field on the hydrodynamic size distribution of the nanoparticles and the zeta potential of the colloids, no significant changes were evidenced. The magnetic confinement of the plasma-induced by laser ablation caused changes in the characteristics of the colloids.

ABSTRACT: Successive cycles of water absorption and loss favor weathering deterioration, one of the main factors that affect the quality of soybean seeds. This study evaluated the physiological, physical, and morpho-anatomical changes in soybean seeds under weathering deterioration at the pre-harvest phase. Six soybean cultivars (BMX Apolo, DM 6563, NS 5959, NA 5909, BMX Potência, and TMG 1175) were produced in a greenhouse and underwent weathering deterioration through a rainfall simulation system, applying 0, 60, 120, and 180 mm of precipitation at pre-harvest phase. Each rainfall level was divided into two applications at an interval of 72 h: 60 mm (30 + 30), 120 mm (60 + 60), and 180 mm (90 + 90). After harvest, the seeds were evaluated for germination, vigor, physical and morpho-anatomical properties. Weathering deterioration induced by simulated rainfall at the pre-harvest phase contributes to the reduction in soybean seed germination and vigor and is conditioned by the soybean genotype. The increase in intensity of simulated rainfall led to a more significant weathering damage in seeds, as evidenced by the X-ray and tetrazolium test. Cultivars DM 6563 and BMX Potência were more susceptible, while NA 5909 was less susceptible to weathering deterioration (especially at the highest level; 120 mm and 180 mm). Anatomical changes caused by weathering deterioration lead to cell compaction and rupture, mainly in the cell layers of the hourglass and parenchyma, forming intracellular spaces. The presence of weathering damage caused a reduction in physiological soybean seed quality.

ABSTRACT Necrotizing sialometaplasia (NS) is a benign, self-limiting inflammatory entity that mainly affects the minor salivary glands located in the hard palate. Classically, NS is characterized as a nodule that evolves to a central ulcer. The most widely recognized triggering factor is an ischemic event. The diagnosis becomes a challenge in non-ulcerated NS cases which is essential to rule out the possibility of salivary gland tumors, especially the malignant ones. Here, we presented a case of a 32-year-old male patient with a 1-month complaint of a painful, slightly elevated erythematous area on the hard palate. Incisional biopsy was performed, and NS was diagnosed based on histopathological and immunohistochemical analyses. Clinicians should be aware of and consider NS as a differential diagnosis of minor salivary gland tumors, particularly when it presents as a non-ulcerated clinical aspect.

Abstract Sunlight and heating influence leaf and grape metabolism and therefore wine quality. As a recent management tool, no information exists on the effects of grapevine row orientation on the wine composition of Syrah vines within the context of double pruning management, a technique used to transfer the grape harvest from the wet summer to the dry winter season. This is a first attempt to investigate the wine composition from north-south- (NS) and east-west- (EW) oriented Syrah winter vines. EW wine samples had higher total acidity, residual sugars, alcohol and color hue, whereas NS wines exhibited higher content of color intensity, anthocyanins, total phenolics, total phenolic index, ashes and pH. The identification of volatile compounds was tentatively performed and demonstrated the presence of alkanes, volatile phenols and alkyl sulfide in NS wines, while butyrolactone and beta-damascenone were found mainly in EW wines. Row orientation contributed to wine composition and could be used as a management tool for obtaining individual wine styles.

ABSTRACT A large number of studies on salinity in hydroponic systems have been carried out, but few of them have evaluated the interaction between salinity and nutrient solution temperatures. Two experiments were carried out in a randomized block design from January to February (Experiment I) and June to July 2018 (Experiment II). Experiment I consisted of treatments with five combinations, as follows: unheated (control) and heated nutrient solution (NS) at a temperature of 32°C using fresh water with an electrical conductivity (ECw) of 0.3 dS m−1, and unheated and heated NS at temperatures of 30 and 32°C using brackish water with an ECw of 6.5 dS m−1 in the main plots, with two coriander cultivars (Tabocas and Verdão) in the subplots, which were grown in the same hydroponic channel. The cultivar Verdão was grown in Experiment II in a 2 × 2 factorial arrangement, consisting of two NS temperatures (unheated and heated at 30°C) and two ECw levels (0.3 and 6.5 dS m−1). Coriander cultivation is feasible with heated NS despite decreases in shoot fresh matter production compared to the control of approximately 37% for Experiment I (cultivar Verdão at a temperature of 32°C and using fresh water) and 17% for Experiment II (temperature of 30°C and using fresh and brackish waters) at 25 days after transplanting.

RESUMEN OBJETIVO: Estimar a prevalência do tabagismo e avaliar os fatores a ele associados em pessoas vivendo com HIV (PVHIV). MÉTODOS: Trata-se de estudo transversal de uma coorte prospectiva concorrente com 462 indivíduos em início de terapia antirretroviral atendidos em três serviços de assistência especializada ao HIV/aids em Belo Horizonte entre 2015 e 2017. Os status de tabagismo utilizados foram: fumante atual (FA), ex-fumante (EF) e não fumante (NF). Realizou-se regressão logística multinomial, sendo NF a categoria de referência. RESULTADOS: A maioria dos participantes eram homens (81,4%), jovens (de até 34 anos; 57,2%) e não brancos (75,7%). Do total de indivíduos, 27,7% eram FA, 22,9% EF, e 49,4% NF. A maioria dos tabagistas eram fumantes leves (65,1%), consumiam até 10 cigarros por dia e fumavam havia mais de 10 anos (63,3%), tendo começado em média aos 17,2 anos de idade (DP = 5,1). Na análise multivariada, maiores chances de ser FA se associaram a: ser do sexo feminino, ter até 9 anos de escolaridade, usar ou já ter usado álcool e drogas ilícitas (maconha, cocaína e crack) e apresentar sinais e/ou sintomas de ansiedade ou depressão. Maiores chances de ser EF se associaram a ter até 9 anos de escolaridade e usar ou já ter usado álcool e drogas e ilícitas (maconha e crack). CONCLUSÕES: Os resultados mostram que o tabagismo é altamente prevalente entre PVHIV, indicando a necessidade de os serviços de assistência especializada em HIV priorizarem intervenções a fim de cessá-lo, com abordagem sobre o uso de álcool e drogas ilícitas, especialmente voltadas para pessoas jovens, com baixa escolaridade e com sinais e/ou sintomas de ansiedade ou depressão.

ABSTRACT OBJECTIVE: To estimate the prevalence of smoking and evaluate the factors associated with this outcome in people living with HIV (PLHIV). METHODS: This is a cross-sectional study of a prospective concurrent cohort of 462 individuals initiating antiretroviral therapy at three HIV/AIDS specialized services in Belo Horizonte between 2015 and 2017. The following smoking status were used: current smoker (CS), former smoker (FS) and non-smoker (NS). Multinomial logistic regression was performed with NS as the reference category. RESULTS: Most participants were men (81.4%), young (up to 34 years old; 57.2%) and non-white (75.7%). Of the total number of individuals, 27.7% were CS, 22.9% FS, and 49.4% NS. Most smokers were light smokers (65.1%), consumed up to 10 cigarettes per day and had been smoking for more than 10 years (63.3%), starting on average at 17.2 years of age (SD = 5.1). In the multivariate analysis, higher chances of being CS were associated with: being female, having up to 9 years of schooling, current or prior use of alcohol and illicit drugs (marijuana, cocaine and crack) and presenting signs and/or symptoms of anxiety or depression. Higher chances of being FS were associated with having up to 9 years of schooling and current or prior use of alcohol and illicit drugs (marijuana and crack). CONCLUSIONS: The results show that smoking is highly prevalent among PLHIV, indicating the need for HIV specialized services to prioritize smoking cessation interventions. These interventions should consider the use of alcohol and illicit drugs and be targeted especially to young people, those with low schooling and with signs and/or symptoms of anxiety or depression.

RESUMEN OBJETIVO: Estimar a prevalência do tabagismo e avaliar os fatores a ele associados em pessoas vivendo com HIV (PVHIV). MÉTODOS: Trata-se de estudo transversal de uma coorte prospectiva concorrente com 462 indivíduos em início de terapia antirretroviral atendidos em três serviços de assistência especializada ao HIV/aids em Belo Horizonte entre 2015 e 2017. Os status de tabagismo utilizados foram: fumante atual (FA), ex-fumante (EF) e não fumante (NF). Realizou-se regressão logística multinomial, sendo NF a categoria de referência. RESULTADOS: A maioria dos participantes eram homens (81,4%), jovens (de até 34 anos; 57,2%) e não brancos (75,7%). Do total de indivíduos, 27,7% eram FA, 22,9% EF, e 49,4% NF. A maioria dos tabagistas eram fumantes leves (65,1%), consumiam até 10 cigarros por dia e fumavam havia mais de 10 anos (63,3%), tendo começado em média aos 17,2 anos de idade (DP = 5,1). Na análise multivariada, maiores chances de ser FA se associaram a: ser do sexo feminino, ter até 9 anos de escolaridade, usar ou já ter usado álcool e drogas ilícitas (maconha, cocaína e crack) e apresentar sinais e/ou sintomas de ansiedade ou depressão. Maiores chances de ser EF se associaram a ter até 9 anos de escolaridade e usar ou já ter usado álcool e drogas e ilícitas (maconha e crack). CONCLUSÕES: Os resultados mostram que o tabagismo é altamente prevalente entre PVHIV, indicando a necessidade de os serviços de assistência especializada em HIV priorizarem intervenções a fim de cessá-lo, com abordagem sobre o uso de álcool e drogas ilícitas, especialmente voltadas para pessoas jovens, com baixa escolaridade e com sinais e/ou sintomas de ansiedade ou depressão.
