Abstract The iAtlantic Project has established an international collaborative strategy to improve mapping and characterization of deep and open ocean ecosystems in understudied regions of the Atlantic and evaluate their health. In December 2022, the first iAtlantic expedition in the South Atlantic set off to map and explore seafloor ecosystems in the Santos Basin slope (200-1,000 m depths) in collaboration with the Petrobras ‘Santos Basin - Regional Characterization Project.’ The 17-day ‘iAtlantic_BR10-Petrobras’ cruise was conducted on board the research vessel NPqHOc Vital de Oliveira (Brazilian Navy) and performed (a) water column structure characterization, (b) seafloor morphology mapping, (c) description of benthic habitats and communities by seafloor imagery and biological/ geological sampling, and (d) ex-situ experiments to assess the functioning of sedimentary ecosystems and their responses to climate-related environmental changes. This study describes the rationale behind the iAtlantic_BR10-Petrobras cruise science plan, reports its sampling strategy and methods, and summarizes its collected data and preliminary results.

■ ABSTRACT Traumatic amputations of the nasal tip are disfiguring injuries, which determine important social rejection, imposing additional suffering on the patient and those already caused by the wound and its functional limitations resulting from the trauma. Such defects represent a challenge for plastic surgeons, and several techniques can be adopted to treat this type of defect. This work shows three cases of traumatic amputation exclusively of the nasal tip with their respective treatments. They present a historical review and discussion of the different techniques used for nasal tip reconstruction, comparatively evaluating and emphasizing the technical evolution in plastic surgery armament.

■ RESUMO As amputações traumáticas da ponta nasal são lesões desfigurantes, que determinam importante rejeição social, impondo ao paciente um sofrimento adicional, além daqueles já causados pela ferida e suas limitações funcionais decorrentes do traumatismo. Tais defeitos representam um desafio para os cirurgiões plásticos, e existem diversas técnicas que poderão ser adotadas para tratar este mesmo tipo de defeito. Neste trabalho são mostrados inicialmente três casos de amputação traumática exclusivamente da ponta nasal com seus respectivos tratamentos, para em seguida apresentar uma revisão histórica e discussão das diversas técnicas utilizadas para reconstrução da ponta nasal, avaliando comparativamente e enfatizando a evolução técnica no armamentário da cirurgia plástica.

The objective of this research is to analyze the bibliographic references of the area of education using the Connections collection as corpus, seeking to identify the main contributions of Deleuze. This is a reflexive, exploratory and descriptive study of a bibliometric approach. The events that gave rise to the works Connections had Deleuze as thematic scope, which justifies that the authorship of most of the works cited is attributed to Deleuze. The proximity of other philosophers around Deleuze's philosophy, whether those who formulated important positions within the philosophy of difference, as is the case of Félix Guattari, are other contemporary thinkers of the duo such as Michel Foucault, Zourabchvilli or Rancière. We also highlight the position of the researcher Silvio Gallo, Brazilian leadership in the studies of Foucault and Deleuze in the home institution of the seminars Connections. Regarding the institutions of affiliation of the authors stand out the State University of Campinas and Federal University of Espírito Santo, as well as several international institutions, such as the University of Georgia, USA and University of St. Andrews, Scotland. The areas of knowledge of the authors of the chapters that stood out the most were Education followed by the area of Arts and Philosophy. Deleuze's most cited works were A Thousand Plateaus and What is philosophy?. The scholars of Gilles Deleuze and Felix Guattari are moved through various areas of knowledge. The main philosophical concepts present in the books Connections that opportunistized show the effort of researchers in creating new words, often in the combination of whole or jagged words to reach innovative meanings.

El objetivo de esta investigación es analizar las referencias bibliográficas en el área de la educación, teniendo como corpus la colección Conexões, buscando identificar las principales contribuciones de Deleuze. Es un estudio reflexivo, exploratorio y descriptivo con enfoque bibliométrico. Los Seminarios que dieron origen a las obras Conexões tenían como ámbito temático a Deleuze, lo que justifica que se atribuya a Deleuze la autoría de la mayor parte de las obras citadas. La proximidad de otros filósofos en torno a la filosofía de Deleuze, ya sea quienes con él formularon posiciones importantes dentro de la filosofía de la diferencia, como es el caso de Félix Guattari, u otros pensadores contemporáneos del dúo como Michel Foucault, Zourabchvilli o Rancière. También se destaca la posición del investigador Silvio Gallo, líder brasileño en los estudios de Foucault y Deleuze en la institución anfitriona de los seminarios Conexões. En cuanto a las instituciones de filiación de los autores, se destacan la Universidad Estatal de Campinas y la Universidad Federal de Espírito Santo, además de varias instituciones internacionales, como la Universidad de Georgia, EE.UU. y la Universidad de St. Andrews, Escocia. Las áreas de conocimiento de los autores de los capítulos que más se destacaron fue Educación, seguida de Artes y Filosofía. Las obras más citadas de Deleuze fueron Mil mesetas y Qué es la filosofia?. Los estudiosos de Gilles Deleuze y Felix Guattari se distribuyen en varias áreas de conocimiento. Los principales conceptos filosóficos presentes en los libros de Conexões que permitieron mostrar el esfuerzo de los investigadores por crear nuevas palabras, muchas veces en la unión de palabras enteras o cortadas para lograr significados innovadores.

O objetivo desta pesquisa é analisar as referências da área de educação tendo como corpus a coleção Conexões, buscando identificar as principais contribuições de Deleuze. Trata-se de um estudo reflexivo, exploratório e descritivo de abordagem bibliométrica. Os Seminários que deram origem às obras Conexões tiveram Deleuze como escopo temático, o que justifica que a autoria da maior parte das obras citadas é atribuída à Deleuze. Destaca-se também a posição do pesquisador Silvio Gallo, liderança brasileira nos estudos de Foucault e Deleuze na instituição-sede dos seminários Conexões. No que se refere as instituições de afiliação dos autores destacam-se a Universidade Estadual de Campinas e Universidade Federal do Espírito Santo, além de diversas instituições internacionais, como Universidade da Georgia, USA e Universidade de St. Andrews, Escócia. As áreas do conhecimento dos autores dos capítulos que mais se destacaram foi a Educação seguida da área de Artes e Filosofia. As obras de Deleuze mais citadas foram Mil Platôs e O que é filosofia. Os estudiosos de Gilles Deleuze e Felix Guattari se espraiam por várias áreas do conhecimento. Os principais conceitos filosóficos presentes nos livros Conexões que oportunizaram mostrar o esforço dos pesquisadores em criar palavras novas, frequentemente na junção de palavras inteiras ou recortadas para alcançar sentidos inovadores.

Abstract Background Cardiotoxicity is the main complication related to cancer therapy. Studies indicate that global longitudinal strain is an early detector of subclinical dysfunction of the left ventricle, preceding the decline in ejection fraction (EF). However, the reproducibility of such methodology has not been tested outside specialized centers. Objectives To assess the frequency of subclinical cardiotoxicity and to compare global longitudinal strain and EF measurements during the clinical course of patients undergoing chemotherapy for breast cancer. Methods This was an observational prospective study of 78 adult women who underwent serial echocardiograms (baseline and 1, 3, and 6 months after the beginning of chemotherapy), to evaluate biplane and 3D EF and global longitudinal strain. Cardiotoxicity and subclinical dysfunction were defined according to American Society of Echocardiography/European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging criteria. Statistical significance was set at p < 0.05. Results The mean age of the patients was 50.1 ± 11.48 years. The frequency of subclinical cardiotoxicity (defined by global longitudinal strain) was 14.9% after 30 days of chemotherapy, 16.7% after 3 months, and 19.7% after 6 months, compared to 4.5%, 3%, and 6.6%, respectively, when clinical cardiotoxicity was determined according to EF. The group that developed subclinical cardiotoxicity by 30 days (group A) had a higher frequency of clinical cardiotoxicity at 3 months (p=0.028) and a lower mean biplane EF after 30 days (p= 0.036) than the group that showed no evidence of subclinical cardiotoxicity (group B). Conclusion Subclinical cardiotoxicity was frequent and began early, being associated with a drop in EF during the clinical course.

BACKGROUND In Brazil, the yellow fever virus (YFV) is maintained in a sylvatic cycle involving wild mosquitoes and non-human primates (NHPs). The virus is endemic to the Amazon region; however, waves of epidemic expansion reaching other Brazilian states sporadically occur, eventually causing spillovers to humans. OBJECTIVES To report a surveillance effort that led to the first confirmation of YFV in NHPs in the state of Minas Gerais (MG), Southeast region, in 2021. METHODS A surveillance network was created, encompassing the technology of smartphone applications and coordinated actions of several research institutions and health services to monitor and investigate NHP epizootics. FINDINGS When alerts were spread through the network, samples from NHPs were collected and YFV infection confirmed by reverse transcription-quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) and genome sequencing at an interval of only 10 days. Near-complete genomes were generated using the Nanopore MinION sequencer. Phylogenetic analysis indicated that viral genomes were related to the South American genotype I, clustering with a genome detected in the Amazon region (state of Pará) in 2017, named YFVPA/MG sub-lineage. Fast YFV confirmation potentialised vaccination campaigns. MAIN CONCLUSIONS A new YFV introduction was detected in MG 6 years after the beginning of the major outbreak reported in the state (2015-2018). The YFV strain was not related to the sub-lineages previously reported in MG. No human cases have been reported, suggesting the importance of coordinated surveillance of NHPs using available technologies and supporting laboratories to ensure a quick response and implementation of contingency measures to avoid YFV spillover to humans.

ABSTRACTObjective: To comprehend the daily rites of child-mothers with congenital Zika virus syndrome for the prevention of COVID-19 during the pandemic.Method: Study with a qualitative-exploratory approach, in the light on the comprehensive sociology of Michel Maffesoli, carried out in WhatsApp groups of associations of families of children with the syndrome. 44 mothers answered the online questionnaire between April and May 2020. Lexical and similarity analyzes were used through IRaMuTeQ.Results: Mothers encourage exercises for child development and help the children’s school activities, watch television, sew, cook, support other mothers on social networks and find satisfaction in not meeting previously established schedules. To prevent COVID-19, mothers adopt physical distance, try to consume healthy foods and intensify hygiene measures.Final considerations: Child-mothers experience, in physical distance being closer to their children and other mothers through the networks, and adopt preventive care to COVID-19, with care overload.Keywords: Coronavirus infections. RESUMENObjetivo: Comprender los ritos cotidianos de madres-infantiles con síndrome congénito del virus del zika para la prevención del COVID-19 durante una pandemia.Método: Estudio con enfoque exploratorio cualitativo, a la luz de la sociología integral de Michel Maffesoli, realizado en grupos de WhatsApp de asociaciones de familias de niños con síndrome. 44 madres respondieron el cuestionario en línea entre abril y mayo de 2020. Se utilizaron análisis léxico y de similitud a través de IRaMuTeQ.Resultados: Las madres fomentan ejercicios para el desarrollo infantil y ayudan en las actividades escolares de los niños, ven televisión, cosen, cocinan, apoyan a otras madres en las redes sociales y encuentran satisfacción en no cumplir con los horarios previamente establecidos. Para prevenir el COVID-19, las madres adoptan la distancia física, intentan consumir alimentos saludables e intensifican las medidas de higiene.Consideraciones finales: Las madres-hijos experimentan la distancia física al estar más cerca de sus hijos y otras madres a través de las redes, más atención preventiva al COVID-19, con sobrecarga de cuidados.Palabras clave: Infecciones por coronavirus. ABSTRACT Nasal carriage of Staphylococcus aureus by healthcare workers is of great clinical importance as it facilitates the contamination of medical devices and cross-transmission. However, studies regarding the epidemiology and dissemination of S. aureus and Methicillin-resistant S. aureus (MRSA) within the Primary Health Care in Brazil are scarce. The current study aimed to detect and characterize S. aureus and MRSA strains from the nasal cavities of 63 healthcare working in primary health care units in order to determine the prevalence of S. aureus and MRSA, biofilm formation and resistance profile of these isolates. PCR reactions were performed for detecting mecA, icaA and icaD genes. The phenotypic antimicrobial susceptibility was assessed by the disk diffusion method and biofilm formation by the Congo Red Agar (CRA) method. The MRSA isolates were typed for the Staphylococcal Cassette Chromosome mec (SCCmec). The prevalence of nasal carriage of S. aureus was 74.6%, of which 72.3% were MRSA carrying SCCmec type I (24.4%), III (34.1%), IV (36.6%). Two (4.9%) isolates presented a non-typeable cassette by the performed technique. The antimicrobial susceptibility evaluation evidenced penicillin resistance in 66.1% of S. aureus, erythromycin resistance in 49.2%, while 37.3% were resistant to oxacillin, 28.8% to cefoxitin, 5.1% to levofloxacin and 5.1% to clindamycin. All isolates were biofilm producers and 96.6% of the strains contained the ica biofilm-forming genes (icaA and/or icaD). We have demonstrated a high prevalence of S. aureus and MRSA carriage among health care working in Primary Health Care units, the presence of SCCmec types I, III and IV, in addition to their high ability to form biofilm, factors that possibly contribute to the dissemination and persistence of these pathogens within the primary care services. These observations highlight the importance of broadening the perspective of Health Care-Associated Infections prevention, including all health care levels, which are currently little explored. In addition, the dynamics and resistance mechanisms of S. aureus transmission still need to be further clarified to enable the implementation of more effective prevention measures.

RESUMO Objetivo Compreender os ritos quotidianos de mães-crianças com síndrome congênita do vírus zika para prevenção da COVID-19 durante a pandemia. Método Estudo de abordagem qualitativo-exploratória, à luz da sociologia compreensiva de Michel Maffesoli, realizado em grupos de WhatsApp de associações das famílias de crianças com a síndrome. Responderam ao questionário online 44 mães entre abril e maio de 2020. Foram utilizadas análises lexical e de similitude através do IRaMuTeQ. Resultados As mães estimulam exercícios para o desenvolvimento infantil e auxiliam as atividades escolares das crianças, assistem à televisão, costuram, cozinham, apoiam outras mães nas redes sociais e encontram satisfação em descumprir horários estabelecidos anteriormente. Para prevenir a COVID-19, as mães adotam o distanciamento físico, procuram consumir alimentos saudáveis e intensificam medidas de higiene. Considerações finais As mães-crianças experienciam, no distanciamento físico, estarem mais próximas dos filhos e de outras mães pelas redes e adotam cuidados de prevenção à COVID-19 com sobrecarga de cuidado.

Resultados Las madres fomentan ejercicios para el desarrollo infantil y ayudan en las actividades escolares de los niños, ven televisión, cosen, cocinan, apoyan a otras madres en las redes sociales y encuentran satisfacción en no cumplir con los horarios previamente establecidos. Para prevenir el COVID-19, las madres adoptan la distancia física, intentan consumir alimentos saludables e intensifican las medidas de higiene. Consideraciones finales Las madres-hijos experimentan la distancia física al estar más cerca de sus hijos y otras madres a través de las redes, más atención preventiva al COVID-19, con sobrecarga de cuidados.

Abstract Psoriatic arthritis (PsA) is a chronic and systemic immune disease characterized by inflammation of peripheral and/ or axial joints and entheses in patients with psoriasis (PsO). Extra-articular and extracutaneous manifestations and numerous comorbidities can also be present. These recommendations replace the previous version published in May 2013. A systematic review of the literature retrieved 191 articles that were used to formulate 12 recommendations in response to 12 clinical questions, divided into 4 sections: diagnosis, non-pharmacological treatment, conventional drug therapy and biologic therapy. These guidelines provide evidence-based information on the clinical management for PsA patients. For each recommendation, the level of evidence (highest available), degree of strength (Oxford) and degree of expert agreement (interrater reliability) are reported.

Resumo O objetivo deste estudo foi comparar os efeitos de uma única aplicação de uma nova nanopartícula de sílica mesoporosa de cálcio (Ca2+ -MSN) versus outros produtos à base de cálcio e / ou fluoreto contra a erosão dentária. Blocos de esmalte foram parcialmente cobertos e distribuídos em seis grupos (n = 10): Ca2+ -MSNs; fosfopeptídeos de caseína/fosfato de cálcio amorfo (CPP-ACP); CPP-ACP / F- (900 ppm F-); tetrafluoreto de titânio (TiF4 1%); fluoreto de sódio (NaF 1,36%); e água Milli-Q® (controle negativo). Uma única aplicação para cada produto foi realizada nas áreas expostas dos blocos e submetida a desafio erosivo. Diferenças na rugosidade volumétrica (Sa) e na perda de estrutura dentária (TSL) por meio de perfilometria tridimensional de não contato foram avaliadas. Microscopia eletrônica de varredura (MEV) foi realizada. Foram realizadas análise de variância e teste de Tukey para os testes Sa e Kruskal-Wallis e Mann-Whitney (p<0,05) para TSL, respectivamente. Na avaliação de Sa, todos os produtos apresentaram diferenças de rugosidade quando comparados ao grupo controle (p<0,05), mas não entre si (p> 0,05). No entanto, ao analisar o TSL, observou-se que Ca2+ -MSNs, TiF4 e NaF foram mais eficazes na prevenção da erosão dental versus CPP-ACP, CPP-ACP / F- e Milli-Q® (p<0,05). Nas imagens de MEV, o controle negativo apresentou a pior perda de estrutura dentária, com o esmalte mais poroso. A Ca2+ -MSNs foi tão eficaz quanto o TiF4 e o NaF para reduzir a perda da estrutura dentária.

Abstract The aim of this study was to compare the effects of a single application of a new calcium mesoporous silica nanoparticle (Ca2+-MSN) versus other calcium and/or fluoride products against dental erosion. Enamel blocks were half-covered and assigned to six groups (n = 10): Ca2+-MSNs; casein phosphopeptide-amorphous calcium phosphate mousse (CPP-ACP); CPP-ACP/F− (900 ppm F−); titanium tetrafluoride (TiF4 1%); sodium fluoride (NaF 1.36%); and Milli-Q® water (negative control). A single application for each product was completed on the exposed areas of the blocks and were submitted to an erosive challenge. Differences in volumetric roughness (Sa), and tooth structure loss (TSL) by use of three-dimensional noncontact optical profilometry were evaluate. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was performed. Analysis of variance and Tukey’s test for Sa and the Kruskal-Wallis and Mann-Whitney U tests (p< 0.05) for TSL, respectively. Results: When evaluating Sa, all products presented differences in roughness when compared with the control group (p< 0.05) but not with each other (p > 0.05). However, when analyzing the TSL, it was observed that Ca2+-MSNs, TiF4, and NaF were more effective in preventing dental erosion versus CPP-ACP, CPP-ACP/F−, and Milli-Q® water (p< 0.05). In the SEM images, the negative control presented the worst loss of dental structure, with more porous enamel. Ca2+-MSNs were as effective as TiF4 and NaF to reduce the tooth structure loss.

RESUMO Objetivo: Analisar o uso de instrumentais oftalmológicos durante os procedimentos cirúrgicos e propor um método de gerenciamento de materiais. Método: Estudo de método misto, exploratório sequencial, realizado entre janeiro e junho de 2015, em hospital universitário no sul do Brasil. Primeiramente, fez-se uma abordagem qualitativa a partir de brainstorming e observação de campo. Os temas foram agrupados em categorias temáticas. Por conexão, a etapa quantitativa aconteceu por arranjos de matrizes e programação linear, culminando à proposta de gerenciamento de instrumentais. Resultados: As categorias - reorganização do instrumental conforme tempo do procedimento cirúrgico e necessidade de peças para cada procedimento - orientaram a definição das restrições existentes e aplicação dos modelos matemáticos. Verificou-se uma redução média de 13,10% no número de peças por bandejas e aumento de 17,88% da produção cirúrgica. Considerações finais: Esta proposta permitiu a racionalização e otimização de instrumentais oftalmológicos, favorecendo a sustentabilidade da organização.

ABSTRACT Aim: Analysis of the use of ophthalmic instruments during surgical procedures in order to propose a material management method. Method: Mixed method study, sequential exploratory design, performed from January to June 2015, at a university hospital in southern Brazil. First, a qualitative approach was held from brainstorming and field observation. Themes were grouped into thematic categories. By connection, the quantitative stage happened through matrix arrangement and linear programming, culminating in the instrument management proposal. Results: Given categories - instruments reorganization according to the time of the surgical procedure and the need surgical instruments for in each procedure - guided the definition of existing restrictions and application of mathematical models. There was an average reduction of 13.10% in the number of surgical instruments per tray and an increase of 17.88% in surgical production. Final considerations: This proposal allowed the rationalization and optimization of ophthalmic instruments, favoring sustainability of the organization.

Primero, se realizó un enfoque cualitativo a partir de la reflexión y la observación de campo. Los temas se agruparon en categorías temáticas. Por conexión, la etapa cuantitativa ocurrió por arreglos de matrices y programación linear, culminando con la propuesta de gestión de instrumentales. Resultados: Las categorías - reorganización del instrumental conforme tiempo del procedimiento quirúrgico y necesidad de piezas para cada procedimiento - orientaron la definición de las restricciones existentes y aplicación de los modelos matemáticos. ABSTRACT Objective: to analyze the daily life of family health teams in elderly population care from the perspective of professionals. Method: this is a qualitative study based on the theoretical reference of Michel de Certeau's daily life. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with 21 professionals from family health teams (doctors, nurses, and community health agents) and analyzed through thematic content analysis. Results: two categories emerged: “the daily practice of family health team professionals in elderly care”, which revealed a practice centered on standardized strategies, but professionals use tactics to include the elderly in medical consultations, prioritizing home visits and health education groups, and making adaptations. The category “health care flows to the elderly people: between maps and paths” described the flows of referral of the elderly people by the Family Health Strategy to other reference services in the municipality and the disruptions in these flows. Conclusion: the daily work of professionals from family health teams follows the general strategies of care for the population and there are no specific actions for the elderly population, which requires new ways of care to the elderly people.

RESUMEN Objetivo: analizar el día a día del personal de salud familiar en el cuidado de las personas mayores desde la perspectiva de los profesionales. Método: estudio cualitativo basado en el marco teórico de la vida cotidiana de Michel de Certeau. Los datos se recogieron a través de entrevistas semiestructuradas con 21 profesionales de equipos de salud familiar (médicos, enfermeros y agentes de salud comunitarios) y luego se analizaron mediante análisis de contenido temático. Resultados: surgieron dos categorías: "la práctica diaria del personal de salud familiar en la atención de la salud de los adultos mayores", la cual reveló que la práctica está centrada en estrategias estandarizadas y que, sin embargo, los profesionales usan tácticas para incluir a dichas personas en las consultas médicas, darles prioridad en las visitas domiciliarias y grupos de educación sanitaria, haciendo adaptaciones. La categoría "flujos de derivación de personas mayores: entre mapas y rutas" describió los flujos de derivación de estos pacientes por parte de la estrategia de salud familiar a otros servicios de referencia en el municipio y las interrupciones en los flujos. Conclusión: el trabajo diario de los profesionales de los equipos de salud familiar sigue las mismas estrategias de atención a la población en general. No hay acciones específicas para la población de edad avanzada, lo cual requiere nuevas formas de atención al adulto mayor.

RESUMO Objetivo: analisar o cotidiano de equipes de saúde da família no cuidado ao idoso na perspectiva de profissionais. Método: estudo qualitativo fundamentado no referencial teórico do cotidiano de Michel de Certeau. Os dados foram coletados por meio de entrevista semiestruturada com 21 profissionais de equipes de saúde da família (médicos, enfermeiros e agentes comunitários de saúde) e analisados por meio da análise de conteúdo temática. Resultados: emergiram duas categorias: “o fazer cotidiano de profissionais de equipes de saúde da família na atenção à saúde do idoso”, que revelou um fazer centrado nas estratégias normatizadas, mas os profissionais usam táticas para incluir idosos em consultas médicas, priorizá-los nas visitas domiciliares e grupos de educação em saúde, fazendo adaptações. A categoria “fluxos de atendimento ao idoso: entre mapas e percursos” descreveu os fluxos de encaminhamento de idosos pela Estratégia Saúde da Família a outros serviços de referência do município e as rupturas nesses fluxos. Conclusão: o cotidiano de trabalho de profissionais de equipes de saúde da família segue as estratégias gerais de atenção à população e não há ações específicas para a população idosa, o que requer novos modos de fazer na atenção ao idoso.

Abstract Objective: To evaluate the effect of a calcium nanocompound on the reduction of erosive tooth wear and abrasion. Material and Methods: Bovine enamel specimens (BE), were randomly assigned to the following groups (n = 10): G1 = Calcium mesoporous silica nanoparticles (Ca2+MSNs); G2 = casein phosphopeptide-amorphous calcium phosphate (CPP-ACP, 2% CPP-ACP, GC®); G3 = casein phosphopeptide-amorphous calcium fluoride phosphate (CPP-ACFP, 2% CPP-ACP + 900 ppm F-, GC®); G4 = sodium fluoride NaF (900 ppm F-, positive control); and G5 = distilled and deionized water (negative control). Each product was applied to the exposed area for one minute, three times per day for three consecutive days, and followed by the immersion of the specimens in Sprite Zero™ - a low-pH solution (2.58) for five minutes (Coca-Cola™). After the first and last erosive challenges of the day, the specimens were submitted to abrasion in a toothbrush machine for 15 seconds (200 g/BE). The specimens were analysed using 3D non-contact optical profilometry, with tooth structure loss (TSL) measurements and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). TSL values were analysed by Kruskal-Wallis and Mann-Whitney tests (p<0.05). Results: There were no significant differences between G1 (10.95 µm) and G3 (10.80 µm) treatments for TSL values; however both resulted in significantly reduced TSL values compared with the G5 (16.00 µm) (p<0.05). The G4 (12.26 µm) showed no statistically significant difference when compared to the G5 (16.00 µm). The groups G1 and G3 presented higher surface preservation than the G5. Conclusion: Ca2+MSNs was effective for reducing tooth surface loss caused by erosive tooth wear and abrasion.

Abstract Objective There is increasingly common the consumption more times a day of foods and acidic drinks in the diet of the population. The present study aimed to evaluate and compare the effects of a calcium mesoporous silica nanoparticle single application of other calcium and/or fluoride products in reducing the progression of dental erosion. Methodology Half of the eroded area was covered of 60 blocks of enamel, after which the block was submitted to the following treatments: (Ca2+-MSN), casein phosphopeptide–amorphous calcium phosphate (CPP-ACP); CPP-ACP/F-(900 ppm F−); titanium tetrafluoride (TiF4 1%) (positive control); sodium fluoride (NaF 1.36%) (positive control); and Milli-Q® water (negative control) before being submitted to a second erosive challenge. A surface analysis was performed via a three-dimensional (3D) noncontact optical profilometry to assess the volumetric roughness (Sa) and tooth structure loss (TSL) and and through scanning electron microscopy (MEV). An analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Tukey’s test were performed. Results Regarding Sa, all experimental groups exhibited less roughness than the control (p<0.05). The TSL analysis revealed that the Ca2+-MSN and NaF groups were similar (p>0.05) and more effective in minimizing tooth loss compared with the other groups (p<0.05). Conclusions The Ca2+-MSN and NaF treatments were superior compared with the others and the negative control.
