RESUMO Objetivo: desenvolver um protocolo de revisão de escopo que busque identificar quais procedimentos e com que finalidade as tecnologias vestíveis disponíveis na literatura estão sendo usadas nos músculos masseter e temporal. Métodos: seguirá a abordagem recomendada pelo The Joanna Briggs Institute e as diretrizes PRISMA-P. As bases de dados a serem pesquisadas incluem PubMed, Cochrane Library, LILACS, Scopus, Web of Science, Embase e literatura cinzenta. Em uma primeira etapa, dois revisores, de forma independente, avaliarão os artigos pelos títulos e resumos, em seguida, será realizada a revisão na íntegra dos artigos selecionados de acordo com os critérios de inclusão e exclusão. Quaisquer incertezas ou diferenças de opinião serão discutidas para consenso. Serão incluídos artigos publicados sem restrição de data e idioma. Todos os componentes serão apresentados em tabelas e fluxogramas. Além disso, um resumo narrativo de cada componente será incluído para mais detalhes. ABSTRACT Purpose: to develop a scoping review protocol that seeks to identify which procedures and for what purpose wearables available in the literature are being used on the masseter and temporal muscles. Methods: the approach recommended by The Joanna Briggs Institute and the PRISMA-P guidelines, will follow. Databases to be searched include PubMed, Cochrane Library, LILACS, Scopus, Web of Science, Embase and grey literature. In the first step, two reviewers will independently evaluate the articles by titles and abstracts, then, a full review of the selected articles will be performed according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Any uncertainties or differences of opinion will be discussed for consensus. Articles published without date or language restrictions will be included. All components will be presented in tables and flow charts. In addition, a narrative summary of each component will be included for further details. Abstract Background: The observation that 2-deoxy-2[18F]fluoro-D-glucose-positron emission tomography/magnetic resonance imaging ([18F]F-FDG-PET/MRI) revealed high-grade arterial wall FDG uptake, without arterial wall thickening with contrast-enhancement, in a considerable number of c-TA patients in our previous study, encouraged us to compare patients with both PET and MR angiography (MRA) positives, with those with PET positive but MRA negative. Our aim was to evaluate the relevance of these two imaging modalities together. Methods: A three-center cross-sectional study with 17 patients who fulfilled the EULAR/PRINTO/PReS criteria for c-TA and who underwent [18F]F-FDG-PET/MRI was previously performed. Herein we compared patients/vessels with positive PET (arterial wall 18F-FDG uptake higher than liver) and positive MRA (arterial wall thickening with contrast-enhancement)—group 1, with those with positive PET but negative MRA—group 2. Results: Median disease duration of 17 c-TA patients was 10.4 years. Nine patients were classified as group 1 and six as group 2. Median of metabolic inflammatory volume (MIV) of all arterial segments was significantly higher in group 1 (2346 vs. 1177 cm3; p = 0.036). Fifty-four (19%) from 284 available arterial segments presented positive findings in vessel wall in one or both images. Positive findings were concordant between PET and MRA in only 13% arterial segments (group 1); most changes (28–59.6%) that were discordant between both images, were positive in PET and negative in MRA (group 2). Conclusions: Our study demonstrated that [18F]F-FDG-PET/MRI added information about inflammation in vessel wall of c-TA patients. Prospective multicenter studies are needed in order to get solid data to guide immunosuppressive tapering and withdrawal.

RESUMO Objetivo: caracterizar a amplitude e a velocidade dos ciclos mastigatórios avaliados por eletrognatografia em um grupo de indivíduos idosos e confrontar esses dados com outros dois grupos de sujeitos com doença de Parkinson (DP) diferenciados pela característica motora predominante. Métodos: os 42 participantes foram divididos em três grupos: A com 15 voluntários e média de idade de 62 anos, sendo 8 do sexo feminino; B com 14 voluntários Parkinsonianos com rigidez predominante e média etária de 58 anos, dos quais 7 eram mulheres; e o grupo C com 13 voluntários, com DP e tremor predominante, com média de idade de 64 anos, sendo 4 mulheres. Empregou-se o teste ANOVA para diferença de médias, com contraste post-hoc de Dunnett ou teste t de Student, todos em nível de significância de 0,05. Resultados: houve maiores diferenças entre as medias dos grupos A e B no numero total de ciclos mastigatórios (A= 23,13 ± 1,41 B=18,21 ± 1,70) [p=0,034] e nas amplitudes máxima de abertura de boca (A= 34,66 ± 2,04 B=26,72 ± 2,49) [p=0,018], lateralização para direita (A=7,02 ± 0,59 B=5,80 ± 0,97) [p=0,036] e para esquerda (A=6,44 ± 0,64 B=3,35 ± 0,80) [p=0,039]. Conclusão: tendo o grupo de idosos superado as medias, na movimentação mandibular durante a mastigação, do grupo de parkinsonianos com rigidez significativamente. Podemos concluir que, é provável que fatores como a rigidez parkinsoniana possam comprometer a mastigação de indivíduos com a doença de Parkinson.

ABSTRACT Purpose: to characterize the amplitude and speed of masticatory cycles evaluated by electrognathography in one group of elder individuals and to compare these data with those of two other groups of Parkinson's disease subjects. Methods: 42 volunteers participants in this study were divided into three groups: A with 15 volunteers, average age of 62 years, 8females, B with 14 volunteers characterized by a Parkinson’s hypokinesia, average age of 58 years, of which 7 are female, and C with 13 volunteers characterized by a Parkinson’s tremor, with average age of 64 years, being 4 female. It was used the ANOVA test for difference of means with post-hoc Dunnett's contrast or Student's t-test, all at 0.05 significance level. Results: there were greater differences between the means of groups A and B in the total number of masticatory cycles (A = 23.13 ± 1.41 B = 18.21 ± 1.70) [p = 0.034] and in the maximum mouth opening amplitudes (A = 34.66 ± 2.04 B = 26.72 ± 2.49) [p = 0.018], lateralization to the right (A = 7.02 ± 0.59 B = 5.80 ± 0.97) P = 0.036] and left (A = 6.44 ± 0.64 B = 3.35 ± 0.80) [p = 0.039]. Conclusion: the elderly group exceeded the means, in the mandibular movement during chewing, of the rigid group of parkinsonians. We may conclude that factors such as parkinsonian stiffness are likely to compromise the chewing of individuals with Parkinson's disease.

INTRODUÇÃO: A rinite alérgica pode causar alterações nas funções estomatognáticas; tais modificações podem alterar a dinâmica mandibular. A eletrognatografia é utilizada no registro dos movimentos de mandíbula, o que a torna válida para análise desses movimentos na fala.OBJETIVO: Caracterizar a amplitude e a velocidade dos movimentos de mandíbula durante a fala em crianças com e sem rinite alérgica.MÉTODOS: A amostra foi composta por 32 crianças com idade entre 7 e 12 anos, atendidas em um hospital universitário, divididas em dois grupos, um de riníticos e outro de não riníticos. Para captação dos movimentos mandibulares durante a fala, foi utilizado um eletrognatógrafo com o auxílio de uma lista de figuras foneticamente balanceadas. Na análise dos dados utilizaram-se, além da estatística descritiva, os testes não paramétricos, coeficiente de correlação de Spearman e o teste de Mann-Whitney, considerando significativo o valor de p=0,05.RESULTADOS: Não se observou diferença significativa nos movimentos mandibulares entre os grupos, com valores de p iguais a 0,175, 0,650 e 0,462, para a amplitude e as velocidades de abertura e o fechamento mandibular, respectivamente. No entanto, houve correlação forte entre as variáveis velocidade e amplitude de abertura da boca, sendo discretamente maior no grupo de crianças com rinite alérgica.CONCLUSÃO: Observou-se que a amplitude e a velocidade dos movimentos mandibulares são semelhantes em crianças com e sem rinite alérgica, e que existe correlação entre estas variáveis; além disso, seus valores apresentaram-se de forma mais heterogênea nos não riníticos.

INTRODUCTION: Allergic rhinitis can cause changes in stomatognathic functions, which may alter the mandibular dynamics. Electrognathography is used in the recording of jaw movements, making it valid for analysis of movements in speech.PURPOSE: To characterize the amplitude and velocity of jaw movements during speech in children with and without allergic rhinitis.METHODS: The sample consisted of 32 children aged 7-12 years, treated at a university hospital, divided into two groups: one with rhinitis and the other without rhinitis. To capture the jaw movements during speech, we used an electrognathography with the aid of a list of phonetically balanced figures. For the analysis of data, we used, in addition to descriptive statistics, nonparametric tests, Spearman correlation coefficient and the Mann-Whitney test, with a significant value of p=0.05.RESULTS: No significant difference was observed in jaw movements between groups, with values of p equals to 0.175, 0.650, and 0.462 for amplitude and jaw opening and closing velocity, respectively. However, a strong correlation was observed between the variables velocity and amplitude of mouth opening, being slightly higher in the group of children with allergic rhinitis.CONCLUSION: The amplitude and velocity of jaw movements are found to be similar in children with and without allergic rhinitis, and a correlation exits between these variables. In addition, they were more heterogeneous in the group without allergic rhinitis.

Patients with bisphosphonate-related osteonecrosis of the jaws (BRONJ) who received intravenous or oral bisphosphonates (BP) were selected for determination of their bone microarchitecture as a risk predictor of BRONJ development. The diagnosis of BRONJ was made based on clinical and radiographic findings. The control group consisted of healthy patients. All patients underwent quantitative and qualitative ultrasound measurements of bone at the hand phalanges carried out using the DBM Sonic BP. Ultrasound bone profile index (UBPI), amplitude-dependent speed of sound (AD-SoS), bone biophysics profile (BBP), and bone transmission time (BTT) were measured. The BRONJ group consisted of 17 patients (62 ± 4.24; range: 45-82); 10 (58.8%) were male and seven (41.1%) were female, of whom 11 (64.7%) suffered from multiple myeloma, three (17.6%) from osteoporosis, one (5.8%) from prostate cancer, one (5.8%) from kidney cancer, and one (5.8%) from leukemia. Fourteen (82.3%) of them received intravenous BP whereas three (17.6%) received oral BP. Nine (9/17; 52.9%) patients developed bone exposure: two in the maxilla and seven in the mandible. Regarding quantitative parameters, Ad-SoS was low in the BRONJ group, but not significant. The UBPI score was significantly reduced in BRONJ patients with exposed bone when compared to controls (0.47 ± 0.12 vs. 0.70 ± 0.15; p = 0.004). The present study demonstrated that quantitative ultrasound was able to show bone microarchitecture alterations in BRONJ patients, and suggests that these analyses may be an important tool for early detection of bone degeneration associated with BRONJ.

Após a cirurgia de laringectomia total, o fluxo aéreo nasal é transferido definitivamente para o traqueostoma, comprometendo a chegada de moléculas odoríferas até a cavidade nasal, podendo repercutir em alterações na percepção olfatória e gustatória nesses indivíduos. OBJETIVO: Avaliar as funções do olfato e do paladar em laringectomizados totais. Desenho do estudo: Estudo de série. MÉTODO: A amostra envolveu um grupo com 25 pacientes submetidos à laringectomia total e outro grupo de comparação com 25 pacientes não laringectomizados. A função gustatória foi avaliada por tiras gustativas de papel de filtro. Para avaliação da função olfatória, foi aplicado o teste Brief Smell Identification Test. RESULTADOS: No grupo de laringectomizados, houve maior frequência de hipogeusia (80%; p < 0,05), assim como de hiposmia (88%; p < 0,001), isoladas e concomitantes (72%; p < 0,001). Na discriminação dos sabores, o sabor amargo não diferiu entre os grupos, diferentemente dos demais sabores. No aspecto olfatório, os laringectomizados tiveram pior desempenho na detecção de odores de alerta e os relacionados à alimentação. Identificou-se que história de tabagismo e de alcoolismo foi significantemente mais frequente dentre laringectomizados. CONCLUSÃO: A diminuição das funções olfatória e gustatória em laringectomizados totais foi evidenciada nesse estudo.

After total laryngectomy surgery, nasal airflow is moved permanently to the tracheostomy opening, compromising the contact of odorant molecules with the nasal cavity, which may reflect changes in the olfactory and gustatory perception in these individuals. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the functions of smell and taste in total laryngectomized patients. Study design: a study of series. METHOD: The sample included a group of 25 patients submitted to total laryngectomy and another group of 25 patients who did not underwent the procedure. The taste function was evaluated by gustatory strips of filter paper. To assess the olfactory function we employed the Brief Smell Identification Test. RESULTS: Among the laryngectomized patients there was more hypogeusia (80%, p < 0.05), as well as hyposmia (88%, p < 0.001), alone and concomitant (72%, p < 0.001). Concerning flavor discrimination, the bitter taste did not differ between the groups - which was different from the other flavors. In the olfactory aspect, laryngectomized patients performed worse in detecting warning and food-related odors. We found that a history of smoking and alcohol consumption were significantly more frequent among laryngectomized patients. CONCLUSION: We found a decrease of gustatory and olfactory functions in total laryngectomized patients in this study.

INTRODUÇÃO: Ocorrem Adaptações no Sistema Respiratório de asmáticos em decorrência da desvantagem mecânica originada pela resistência das vias aéreas aumentadas. OBJETIVO: O estudo tem como objetivo avaliar a força muscular respiratória em crianças asmáticas e seu estado nutricional. MÉTODO: É um estudo prospectivo descritivo, transversal composto por 50 crianças alocadas em dois grupos: O grupo asmático e o grupo controle, na faixa etária de 7 a 12 anos. A força muscular respiratória foi avaliada com a pressão inspiratória máxima (PImáx) e pressão expiratória máxima (PEmáx). O estado nutricional foi avaliado através da medida dos dados antropométricos: peso e altura, e da mensuração do índice de massa corpórea (IMC). Foi realizada através da análise da variância, teste de Qui-quadrado e teste t-student, sendo considerado significante o valor de p > 0,05. RESULTADOS: Na análise comparativa, observaram-se valores estatisticamente significantes mais baixos para idade, peso e altura em asmáticos: 8,52 ± 1,49; 30,62 ± 7,66: 129,85 ± 10,24, respectivamente e controle: 9,79 ± 1,51; 39,92 ± 16,57; 139,04 ± 11, 62, respectivamente. Não se observou aumento significativo da PImáx e PEmáx entre os grupos: PImáx de -84,96 ± 27,52, para asmático e -88,56 ± 26,50 para controle, e PEmáx de +64,48 ± 19,23 para asmático e +66,72 ± 16,56 para controle. CONCLUSÃO: Embora não tenha havido diferença estatisticamente significante entre os grupos, observou-se que a PImáx e PEmáx apresenta-se um pouco superior no grupo controle, que no grupo asmático, como alguns autores já haviam citado.

INTRODUCTION: Changes in the respiratory system of asthmatics are also due to the mechanical disadvantage caused by the increased airway resistance. OBJECTIVE: The study aims to evaluate the respiratory muscle strength and nutritional status of asthmatic children. METHOD: This is a prospective descriptive and transversal study with 50 children aged 7 to 12 years, who were placed into 2 groups, asthmatic and non-asthmatic. Respiratory muscle strength was evaluated on the basis of maximal inspiratory pressure (MIP) and maximal expiratory pressure (MEP). The nutritional status was evaluated by measuring the anthropometric data, including height, weight, and body mass index (BMI). The findings were subjected to analysis of variance, chi-square, and Student's t test, and p-values<0.05 was considered statistically significant. RESULTS: In our comparisons, we observed statistically significantly lower values for age, weight, and height in asthmatic patients: 8.52 ± 1.49 years, 30.62 ± 7.66 kg, and 129.85 ± 10.24 cm, respectively, vs. non-asthmatic children(9.79 ± 1.51 years, 39.92 ± 16.57 kg, and 139.04 ± 11.62 cm, respectively). There was no significant increase in MIP and MEP between the groups: MIP was -84.96 ± 27.52 cmH2O for the asthmatic group and -88.56 ± 26.50 cmH2O for the non-asthmatic group, and MEP was 64.48 ± 19.23 cmH2O for asthmatic children and +66.72 ± 16.56 cmH2O for non-asthmatics. CONCLUSION: There was no statistically significant difference between groups, but we observed that MIP and MEP were slightly higher in the non-asthmatic group than in the asthmatic group.
