RESUMO A cultura do feijão fava (Phaseolus lunatus) pode ser considerada uma alternativa de renda e fonte de alimento aos agricultores do Nordeste brasileiro, no entanto depara-se com graves problemas sanitários. Dentre as principais doenças encontradas em campos de produção, destaca-se a antracnose causada por Colletotrichum truncatum. O objetivo do trabalho foi determinar a resistência de acessos de feijão fava a isolados de C. truncatum. Foram utilizadas folhas destacadas pertencentes a dez acessos de feijão-fava originados de campos de produção no Estado da Paraíba, inoculadas artificialmente por dez isolados de C. truncatum. Os isolados foram cultivados em meio de cultura feijão, dextrose e ágar, sob temperatura de 27 ± 2 ºC e fotoperíodo de 12 horas durante quatorze dias. As avaliações de resistência foram realizadas aos 5, 7, 9, 11 e 13 dias após a inoculação, adotando-se escala de notas e os resultados foram transformados em área abaixo da curva de progresso da doença. O delineamento experimental utilizado foi inteiramente casualizado, arranjados em esquema fatorial 10x10 com 12 repetições. Os primeiros sintomas da antracnose surgiram a partir do terceiro dias após a inoculação. A maior agressividade entre os isolados de C. truncatum aos acessos de feijão fava foi observada para o isolado CT35. Os acessos foram agrupados de altamente a moderadamente resistente ou suscetível. A agressividade entre os isolados de C. truncatum foi alterada em função da variabilidade de resistência dos acessos de feijão-fava. Os acessos com grau de resistência à antracnose podem servir de fontes de resistência em cruzamentos futuros.

ABSTRACT Lima bean (Phaseolus lunatus) can be considered as an alternative income and food supply to farmers of the Brazilian Northeast. This crop has faced serious sanitary problems. Among the most important diseases that attack this crop, the anthracnose caused by Colletotrichum truncatum requires greater attention. This study aimed to determine the resistance of lima bean accessions to the isolates of C. truncatum. Detached leaves were used from ten lima bean accessions, originated from production fields in Paraíba State - Brazil. They were artificially inoculated with ten isolates of C. truncatum. The isolates were grown on bean-dextroseagar medium under temperature 27 ± 2 °C and a photoperiod of 12 hours, for fourteen days. The evaluations of the accessions’ resistance to the isolates were performed at 5, 7, 9, 11 and 13 days after inoculation (DAI), adopting a scale of notes, and the results were transformed in the area under the disease progress curve. The research was carried out in completely randomized design, in a 10x10 factorial arrangement (accessions x isolates) with 12 replications. The first symptoms of anthracnose on the detached leaves appeared from the third day after inoculation. The accessions were grouped from highly to moderately resistant or susceptive. The aggressiveness among C. truncatum isolates varied depending on the genetic variability of the lima bean accessions used. Accessions with significant resistance levels to anthracnose can be used as resistance sources in future breeding programs.

ABSTRACT Maize (Zea mays L.) is among the most cultivated crops in the world and can be affected by several diseases, especially those transmitted by seeds. The study of alternatives to fungicides used for seed treatment has a promising field in essential oils. Thus, this study determined the phytochemical profile of the ethanolic extract from Anadenanthera colubrina (Vell.) Brenan and to evaluate its antifungal activity on the sanitary and physiological quality of maize seeds. The seeds used were of the Jaboatão cultivar, which were submitted to the following treatments: control (untreated seeds), commercial fungicide (dicarboximide) and A. colubrina extract at 200, 400, 600, 800, and 1,000 ppm. The seeds were subjected to sanitary and germination tests in a completely randomized experimental design. Phytochemical prospecting of A. colubrina extract indicated the presence of alkaloids, tannins, flavonoids and saponins, as well as the major compounds lupeol, gallic acid, ferulic acid, catechin and quercetin. The A. colubrina extract reduced the incidence of Aspergillus spp., including Aspergillus niger, Alternaria spp., Curvularia spp. and Fusarium spp. at all concentrations. The highest concentrations (800 and 1,000 ppm) of the A. colubrina extract reduced the incidence of Penicillium spp. and yielded an effective control of Rhizoctonia spp. The extract of A. colubrina did not present phytotoxic effect, guaranteeing the viability and vigor of maize seeds.

Resumo: A microbiolização de sementes é uma alternativa na substituição dos defensivos químicos para o tratamento de sementes na agricultura orgânica. Assim, objetivou-se avaliar o crescimento inicial e o controle de fungos associados a sementes de algodoeiro orgânico, através da microbiolização de sementes com Trichoderma sp. e Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Sementes certificadas da cultivar Aroeira, cujo línter havia sido removido com ácido sulfúrico, foram analisadas em delineamento inteiramente casualizado em arranjo fatorial de 5 x 2 + 1, com cinco concentrações (0; 0,5; 1,0; 1,5 e 2,0), dois agentes biocontroladores (Trichoderma sp. e S. cerevisiae) e o fungicida como tratamento adicional (Captan®). Os testes de sanidade, germinação e emergência das sementes foram avaliados para confirmar as hipóteses. A microbiolização das sementes é eficiente na redução da incidência de fungos e no crescimento inicial de plântulas de algodoeiro orgânico cv. Aroeira. Os agentes biocontroladores avaliados são superiores ao tratamento químico no crescimento inicial de plântulas. Trichoderma sp. é o agente mais eficaz, proporcionando alto crescimento inicial de plântulas e redução significativa da incidência de fungos.

Abstract: Seed microbiolization is an alternative to chemical pesticides for seed treatment in organic agriculture. Thus, this study aimed at evaluating the initial growth and control of fungi associated with organic cotton seeds, through seed microbiolization with Trichoderma sp. and Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Certified cotton seeds (cultivar Aroeira), whose linter was removed with sulfuric acid, were analyzed in a completely randomized design in a 5 x 2 + 1 factorial scheme, corresponding to five concentrations (0, 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, and 2.0), two biocontrol agents (Trichoderma sp. and S. cerevisiae), and an additional treatment composed of a fungicide (Captan®). Seed health, germination, and emergence tests were conducted to confirm the hypotheses. The microbiolization of seeds is efficient in reducing both incidence and initial growth of fungi in organic cotton cv. Aroeira. The appraised biocontrol agents proved to be superior to the chemical treatment regarding the initial seedling growth. Trichoderma sp. is the most effective agent and provides a high initial seedling growth and a significant reduction in fungal incidence.

A qualidade das sementes de soja (Glycine max L.) é um fator importante para o sucesso da cultura, uma vez que a semente pode servir como fonte de inóculo para disseminação de doenças. Dessa forma, objetivou-se avaliar o efeito da termoterapia via calor úmido na qualidade fitossanitária e fisiológica das sementes de soja. As sementes utilizadas foram da cultivar FTS ATHENA RR, as quais foram submetidas aos seguintes tratamentos: testemunha (sementes não tratadas), fungicida (dicarboximida) e os tratamentos térmicos a 40, 50 e 60 ºC por cinco e dez minutos de imersão em água. As sementes foram submetidas aos testes de sanidade e emergência em delineamento experimental inteiramente casualizado. O tratamento por imersão das sementes a 40, 50 e 60 °C por cinco e dez minutos não foi eficiente para impedir o desenvolvimento de Penicillium spp., Aspergillus niger Link e A. Flavus Tiegh. As temperaturas de 40 e 50 ºC em todos os tempos de imersão, reduziram a microflora fúngica da parte aérea e do solo sem afetar a qualidade fisiológica.

The quality of soybean seeds (Glycine max L.) is an important factor for the success of the crop, since the seeds can serve as source of inoculum for the dissemination of diseases. Thus, the objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of the thermotherapy via humid heat on the sanitary and physiological quality of the soybean seeds. The seeds used were from the cultivar FTS ATHENA RR, which were subjected to the following treatments: control (untreated seeds), fungicide (dicarboximide) and the heat treatments at 40, 50 and 60 ºC for five and ten minutes water immersion. The seeds were subjected to sanity and emergency tests in a completely randomized experimental design. Immersion of the seeds at 40, 50 and 60 ° C for five and ten minutes was not efficient to prevent the incidence of Penicillium spp., Aspergillus niger Link and A. flavus Tiegh. The temperatures of 40 and 50 ºC in all the immersion times reduced the fungal microflora of aerial part and soil without affecting the physiological quality.

RESUMO A antracnose da videira é uma doença causada pelo fungo Elsinoe ampelina sendo responsável por grandes danos na cultura. A proteção de plantas por meio da resistência induzida tem sido visualizada como uma importante medida de controle alternativo. Os elicitores de resistência estimulam uma série de reações no hospedeiro, para a produção de compostos metabólicos propiciando proteger a planta contra os patógenos. O objetivo do trabalho foi avaliar a eficiência de elicitores de resistência bióticos e abióticos no manejo da antracnose na cultura da videira ‘Isabel’. O experimento a campo foi realizado no município de Natuba, PB e as análises de fruto no Laboratório de Fitopatologia da Universidade Federal da Paraíba, em Areia. Os tratamentos utilizados foram: T1 – Testemunha; T2 - Fungicida (Metiram + Piraclostrobina); T3 - Fosfito de Potássio; T4 - AgroMos®; T5 - Fungicida + Fosfito de Potássio; T6 - Fungicida + AgroMos®; T7 - Fosfito de Potássio + AgroMos®; T8 - Fungicida + Fosfito de Potássio + AgroMos® com quarto repetições em blocos casualizado. As aplicações foram realizadas a cada sete dias, totalizando 12 aplicações durante o ciclo da cultura. As avaliações foram realizadas quinzenalmente, avaliando-se nove folhas por planta. As variáveis analisadas foram: período de incubação, incidência da doença e área abaixo da curva de progresso da doença. Para avaliações físico-químicas dos frutos, o delineamento foi em blocos ao acaso, constituída de três cachos. Foram analisados: peso dos cachos; comprimento e diâmetro dos cachos; rendimento de polpa; sólidos solúveis; pH; acidez titulável e relação SS/AT. O fosfito de potássio aplicado sozinho ou intercalado com fungicida e/ou AgroMos® em videiras ‘Isabel’, proporcionou menor severidade de E. ampelina. O comprimento e peso dos cachos de uva foram influenciados positivamente com a aplicação de fosfito de potássio. O Fosfito de potássio e AgroMos® aplicados isoladamente ou em conjunto, não interferiram no rendimento de polpa.

ABSTRACT Anthracnose of grapevine is a disease caused by the fungus Elsinoe ampelina, responsible for great damages to the crop. Plant protection by means of resistance induction has been viewed as an important alternative control measure. Resistance elicitors stimulate a series of reactions in the host for the production of metabolic compounds, providing protection to the plant against pathogens. The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficiency of biotic and abiotic resistance elicitors in the management of anthracnose for the cultivation of vine ‘Isabel’. The experiment in the field was carried out in the municipality of Natuba, Paraíba State, and fruits were analyzed in the Phytopathology Laboratory of Federal University of Paraiba, Areia. Treatments were: T1 – Control; T2 - Fungicide (Metiram + Pyraclostrobin); T3 - Potassium phosphite; T4 - AgroMos®; T5 – Fungicide + Potassium phosphite; T6 – Fungicide + AgroMos®, T7 - Potassium phosphite + AgroMos®; T8 – Fungicide + Potassium phosphite + AgroMos® composed of four replicates in randomized blocks. Applications were carried out at every seven days, totaling 12 applications during the crop cycle. Evaluations were done at every 15 days, considering nine leaves per plant. The analyzed variables were: incubation period, disease incidence and area below the disease progress curve. For physicochemical evaluations of fruits, the design was in randomized blocks, constituted of three clusters. The following were analyzed: bunch weight; bunch length and diameter; pulp yield; soluble solids; pH; titratable acidity and SS / TA ratio. Potassium phosphite applied alone or alternated with fungicide and/or AgroMos® on vines ‹Isabel› provided lower severity of E. ampelina. The length and the weight of grape bunches were positively influenced by potassium phosphite application. Potassium phosphite and AgroMos® applied either alone or in association did not affect pulp yield.

RESUMO: O uso de sementes com bom potencial sanitário e fisiológico garante o estabelecimento da cultura, com estande de plântulas uniformes, vigorosas e livres de doenças, que consequentemente resultará em bons níveis de produtividade. Diante do exposto, objetivou-se avaliar a qualidade sanitária e fisiológica de sementes de milho roxo (Zea mays L.) submetidas à termoterapia, por meio de tratamento térmico com imersão em água destilada esterilizada (ADE), aquecida à temperatura de 50, 60 e 70 °C por 1, 2 e 3 minutos. O controle (0 min) correspondeu apenas à imersão das sementes em ADE. As sementes foram submetidas aos testes de sanidade e germinação em delineamento experimental inteiramente randomizado em esquema fatorial 3 × 3 + 1 (tempo de exposição × temperatura + controle adicional). Os dados foram submetidos à análise de variância e as médias foram comparadas pelo teste de Scott-Knott até 5% de probabilidade, com o auxílio do programa estatístico SISVAR®. A imersão das sementes de Zea mays em água quente a 50, 60 e 70 °C durante 1, 2 e 3 minutos é eficiente para impedir o aumento da incidência de Aspergillus sp., Penicillium sp. e Fusarium sp. O tratamento térmico a 60 °C por 1 e 2 minutos de imersão reduz a incidência da micoflora fúngica, sem prejudicar a qualidade fisiológica das sementes.

ABSTRACT: The use of seeds with good sanitary and physiological potential ensures the establishment of the crop, with a uniform, vigorous and disease-free seedling stand, which will result in good productivity levels. Seen that, the objective was to evaluate the sanitary and physiological quality of purple corn seeds (Zea mays L.) submitted to thermotherapy. They were subjected to heat treatment with immersion in sterile distilled water (SDW) heated at 50, 60 and 70 °C for 1, 2, and 3 minutes. The control (0 min) correspondens only to immersing the seeds in SDW, which were submitted to sanitary and germination tests in a completely randomized experimental design, in a factorial arrangement 3 × 3 + 1 (exposure time × temperature + additional control). Data were subjected to analysis of variance, and the means were compared with the Scott-Knott test up to 5% of probability, with the aid of the statistical program SISVAR®. Immersing Zea mays seeds in hot water at 50, 60 and 70 °C for 1, 2, and 3 minutes is efficient to prevent the increased incidence of Aspergillus sp., Penicillium sp., and Fusarium sp. The heat treatment at 60 °C for 1 and 2 minutes of immersion reduces the incidence of fungal mycoflora without impairing the physiological quality of seeds.
