Healthcare-related infections caused by resistant microorganisms are a severe public health problem and are becoming increasingly prevalent in the hospital environment, especially Pseudomonas aeruginosa. This work aimed to evaluate the resistance profile of Pseudomonas aeruginosa to antimicrobials before the COVID-19 pandemic and during the pandemic period. Bacteria strains were obtained from tracheal aspiration, sputum, and bronchoalveolar lavage for diagnosis and phenotypic characterization. Matrix assisted laser-desorption ionization-time of flight mass spectrometry (MALD-TOF MS) was used to identify strains. Automated Phoenix and VITEK® 2 Compact system and the disc diffusion method were performed to determine the antimicrobial susceptibility profile. A total of 41,000 medical reports from adult patients with pneumonia were analyzed. Of these, 951 patients were positive for P. aeruginosa, of which 373 were related to the pre-pandemic period and 578 to the pandemic period. Older men (≥60 years) were more prevalent in both periods. P. aeruginosa strains were resistant to imipenem in both periods: 38.8 and 42.5%, respectively, followed by meropenem (34.2 and 39.2%), ciprofloxacin (33.6 and 36.7%), and levofloxacin (34.9 and 43.5%). Intensive care units had the highest percentage of affected patients (62 and 65%) compared with other sectors, with a prevalence of 71% in the public network before COVID-19 and 59% during the pandemic. Our data showed a prevalence of P. aeruginosa in elderly patients in both the pre-pandemic and pandemic periods. In addition, an increase in P. aeruginosa resistance to beta-lactams, quinolones, carbapenems, and cephalosporins was observed during the COVID-19 pandemic compared with the period before the pandemic, especially in ICUs.

RESUMO Especula-se que a pandemia pelo novo coronavírus SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) tenha agravado a prevalência de sobrepeso e obesidade em cães e gatos. O presente artigo teve como objetivo realizar um levantamento de sobrepeso/obesidade, o qual avaliou os registros de 1001 casos consecutivos atendidos no Hospital de Clínicas Veterinárias da Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul, durante a reabertura da instituição ao público, após meses fechada devido à pandemia. Observou-se uma prevalência de sobrepeso ou de obesidade de 36,63%, sendo a frequência ligeiramente maior em gatos (38,37%) do que em cães (35,76%) e não sendo documentado aumento local na prevalência. Castrações (cães e gatos), idade > 10 anos (cães) e sexo masculino (gatos) foram associadas ao sobrepeso/obesidade. Em cerca de 30% das fichas não havia peso registrado, e em cerca de 50% não havia registro de ECC. Essas falhas foram mais frequentes em fichas de felinos e demandam medidas para aumentar o registro desses dados pelas equipes clínicas.

ABSTRACT Anecdotal reports suggest that the new coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 pandemic (COVID-19) has increased overweight and obesity prevalence in dogs and cats. The present report aimed to perform a retrospective overweight/obesity survey on 1,001 consecutive cases attended in the Veterinary Clinics Hospital from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul during its reopening to the public after months closed due to the pandemic. The overall overweight or obesity observed prevalence was 36.63%; being the frequency in cats slightly greater (38.37%) than compared to dogs (35.76%). No local increase in these frequencies was detected. Neutering (dogs and cats), age greater than 10 years (dogs), and male gender (cats) were factors associated with overweight/obesity. Bodyweight was not registered in about 30% of the medical records, while the body condition score was not registered in about 50% of the cases. These flaws were more often observed in feline medical records and efforts to improve these data records are warranted.

Abstract Objective: The clinical cases of patients with multisystem inflammatory syndrome (MIS-C) were analyzed via a systematic review and meta-analysis of the clinical findings, treatments, and possible outcomes of articles retrieved via database searches. Sources: The authors searched the PubMed, Scielo, Web of Science, Science Direct, EMBASA, EBSCO, and Scopus databases for articles containing the keywords “multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children” or “MIS-C” or “PIMS-TS” or “SIMP” and “COVID-19” or “SARS-CoV-2” published between December 1st, 2019 and July 10th, 2021. Patient characteristics, tissue and organ comorbidities, the incidence of symptoms after COVID-19 infection, treatment, and patient evolution in the articles found were evaluated. The data were abstracted following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines and Newcastle-Ottawa Scale (NOS). Findings: In total, 98 articles (2275 patients) were selected for demographics, clinical treatment, and outcomes of patients diagnosed with MIS-C. The average age of children with MIS-C, 56.8% of whom were male, was of nine years. Fever (100%), gastrointestinal (GI) (82%), and abdominal pain (68%) were the decisive symptoms for the diagnosis of MIS-C. Shock and/or hypotension were common in patients with MIS-C. Cardiac symptoms (66%) predominated over respiratory (39%) and neurological (28%) symptoms. MIS-C treatment followed the common guidelines for treating children with septic shock and Kawasaki disease (KD) and proved to be effective. Conclusions: This meta-analysis highlights the main clinical symptoms used for the diagnosis of MIS-C, the differences between MIS-C and KD, and the severity of the inflammatory process and urgency for hospital care.

Abstract Monitoring and inventorying proglacial lakes in the Maritime Antarctica region is essential for understanding the effects of climate change on these environments. This study uses Landsat images to create a map of lakes in ice-free areas of the South Shetlands Islands (SSI) for 1986/89, 2000/03 and 2020, and verification of patterns of change in lake areas and numbers. Normalized water difference index (NDWI) products, image segmentation, field records, and cartographic products from other studies were used to validate the results. Results show a 60% increase in the number of lakes from 1986/89 to 2000/03; and a 55% increase from 2000/03 to 2020. There was a 52% increase in lake areas from 1986/89 to 2000/03; a 79% increase from 2000/03 to 2020; and a 173% increase from 1986 to 2020. From 1986 to 2020, the most significant changes were a decrease in the average elevation and distance from glaciers and an increase in distance from the sea. In 2020, SSI lakes were predominantly coastal and ice-marginal, with an E and S orientations, flat surfaces, and a low declivity.

The aim of this study was to describe the muscle function, architecture, and composition of long-distance master runners, and verify the association between age and these variables. Additionally, different clusters of runners were compared based on age and training variables. Forty male runners (≥50 years) reported their training routine and had their muscle function evaluated through maximum knee extensor isometric peak torque (PT) assessed with an isokinetic dynamometer. The cross-sectional area (CSA), pennation angle (PA), fascicle length (FL), muscle thickness (MT), and echo intensity (EI) were evaluated through ultrasound (muscle architecture and composition). The participants were 58.7±6.2 years old and had been training for 18.4±10.3 years, 4 sessions/week with 298.8±164.7 min/week of training. The absolute torque was 226.92±63.44 N·m, and the specific torque (PT/CSA) was 7.29±3.78 N·m/cm2. Regarding muscle architecture, the phase angle was 17.34±4°, the fascicle angle 6.78±1.04 cm, muscle thickness 2.93±0.56 cm, and the cross-sectional area 21.24±5.88 cm2. Concerning muscle composition, the master runners showed echo intensity values of 62.05±11.68 AU. The analysis demonstrated a weak and negative association between age and some muscle architecture variables (CSA and MT) and muscle function (PT). No association was verified between age and muscle composition (EI). Age partially explained CSA, MT, and muscle function changes (13, 11, and 14%, respectively). Participants' high level of physical training might have contributed to the low association between these variables and the lack of association with muscle composition.

Abstract COVID-19 is a pandemic disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2) responsible for millions of deaths worldwide. Although the respiratory system is the main target of COVID-19, the disease can affect other organs, including the kidneys. Acute Kidney Injury (AKI), commonly seen in patients infected with COVID-19, has a multifactorial cause. Several studies associate this injury with the direct involvement of the virus in renal cells and the indirect damage stimulated by the infection. The direct cytopathic effects of SARS-CoV-2 are due to the entry and replication of the virus in renal cells, changing several regulatory pathways, especially the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS), with repercussions on the kallikrein-kinin system (KKS). Furthermore, the virus can deregulate the immune system, leading to an exaggerated response of inflammatory cells, characterizing the state of hypercytokinemia. The such exaggerated inflammatory response is commonly associated with hemodynamic changes, reduced renal perfusion, tissue hypoxia, generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS), endothelial damage, and coagulopathies, which can result in severe damage to the renal parenchyma. Thereby, understanding the molecular mechanisms and pathophysiology of kidney injuries induced by SARS-COV-2 is of fundamental importance to obtaining new therapeutic insights for the prevention and management of AKI.

We evaluated the effects of exercise training (ET) on the profile of mood states (POMS), heart rate variability, spontaneous baroreflex sensitivity (BRS), and sleep disturbance severity in patients with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). Forty-four patients were randomized into 2 groups, 18 patients completed the untrained period and 16 patients completed the exercise training (ET). Beat-to-beat heart rate and blood pressure were simultaneously collected for 5 min at rest. Heart rate variability (RR interval) was assessed in time domain and frequency domain (FFT spectral analysis). BRS was analyzed with the sequence method, and POMS was analyzed across the 6 categories (tension, depression, hostility, vigor, fatigue, and confusion). ET consisted of 3 weekly sessions of aerobic exercise, local strengthening, and stretching exercises (72 sessions, achieved in 40±3.9 weeks). Baseline parameters were similar between groups. The comparisons between groups showed that the changes in apnea-hypopnea index, arousal index, and O2 desaturation in the exercise group were significantly greater than in the untrained group (P<0.05). The heart rate variability and BRS were significantly higher in the exercise group compared with the untrained group (P<0.05). ET increased peak oxygen uptake (P<0.05) and reduced POMS fatigue (P<0.05). A positive correlation (r=0.60, P<0.02) occurred between changes in the fatigue item and OSA severity. ET improved heart rate variability, BRS, fatigue, and sleep parameters in patients with OSA. These effects were associated with improved sleep parameters, fatigue, and cardiac autonomic modulation, with ET being a possible protective factor against the deleterious effects of hypoxia on these components in patients with OSA.

RESUMO: Anfisbenas são répteis desprovidos de membros que pertencem a ordem Squamata. Devido a seus hábitos fossoriais e reclusos, pouco se conhece sobre sua morfologia, ecologia e condições patológicas que possam afetá-las. Neste artigo, um guia sucinto para a necropsia, identificação de tecidos e órgãos e lesões encontradas em Amphisbaena alba, é apresentado. Durante março e dezembro de 2019, três casos de A. alba com suspeita de trauma foram encaminhados ao Hospital Veterinário da Universidade Federal da Paraíba. Na avaliação clínica foram observadas lesões traumáticas e instituído um suporte terapêutico, porém não resistiram e morreram em seguida. Foram realizadas projeções radiográficas onde identificaram fraturas e ruptura de órgãos, além de identificar estruturas específicas dessa espécie. Uma avaliação completa de estruturas externas e internas foi conduzida para investigar aspectos morfológicos dos anfisbenídeos. Macroscopicamente foram confirmadas múltiplas fraturas e rupturas de órgãos observadas anteriormente nas radiografias, além disso evidenciou no intestino grosso presença de parasitos anoplocéfalos denominados Semenoviella amphisbaenae. Na histologia foi possível identificar características normais e lesões microscópicas nos tecidos. Esse é o primeiro estudo a incorporar aspectos morfológicos, clínicos e patológicos de A. alba. Esse manuscrito traz informações essenciais para clínicos e patologistas de animais selvagens que podem se deparar com casos clínicos ou de necropsia de Amphisbaena alba.

ABSTRACT: Amphisbenians are limbless reptiles that belong to the order Squamata. Due to their fossorial and secrevie habits, little is known about their morphology, ecology and pathological conditions that may affect them. In this manuscript, we present a brief guide for identification of normal structures as well as traumatic injuries on radiography and necropsy of Amphisbaena alba. From April to September 2019, three cases of A. alba with suspected trauma were referred to the Veterinary Hospital of the Federal University of Paraíba (UFPB). In the clinical evaluation, traumatic injuries were observed, and support therapy was instituted, but they did not resist and died shortly after. Bone fractures and organ ruptures, in addition to specific structures of this species were identified on radiography. A systematic necropsy was performed of all amphisbaenians in order to evaluate external and internal structures, not only to identify lesions but also to investigate the morphological aspects of amphisbenids. Macroscopically, multiple organ fractures and ruptures observed in radiographs were confirmed, in addition to the presence of the cestodes Semenoviella amphisbaenae in the large intestine. Histologically, it was possible to identify normal characteristics and microscopic lesions in the tissues. This is the first study to incorporate morphological, clinical, and pathological aspects of A. alba. This manuscript brings essential information for wildlife veterinarians and pathologists who may have to treat or perform a necropsy on these unique reptiles.

Abstract This study describes the synthesis and antioxidant activity of new 1,4-disubstituted 1,2,3-triazoles. These compounds were generated semi-synthetically using the Cu(I)-catalysed azide-alkyne cycloaddition (CuAAC) reaction between ethyl 2-azidoacetate and terminal acetylenes derived from the natural products carvacrol, eugenol, isovanillin, thymol and vanillin. The products were obtained at 50 to 80% yield and characterised through several spectrographic techniques. Antioxidant activity was assayed using 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) and 2,2’-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulphonic acid) (ABTS). The products exhibited moderate antioxidant activity, with ethyl 2-(4-((4-formyl-2-methoxyphenoxy)methyl)-1H-1,2,3-triazol-1-yl) acetate showing the highest antioxidant capacity (EC50 = 75.5 µg/mL) among the generated 1,4-disubstituted 1,2,3-triazoles. In conclusion, the generation of these compounds opens new possibilities for the development of new antioxidant agents.

Resumo Introdução: O ingresso nas universidades representa uma mudança no modo de vida social, econômico, pessoal e mental dos estudantes. Às vezes, o processo de habituação representa um estressor que pode culminar em sintomas de ansiedade e depressão e, desse modo, representar um fator de risco para saúde mental. Objetivo: Analisar a percepção dos discentes sobre a experiência de vivenciar discussões sobre temática de suicídio. Métodos: Trata-se de um estudo descritivo-exploratório, com abordagem qualitativa, realizado em uma Universidade Federal do Nordeste do Brasil. Participaram da pesquisa 15 estudantes do curso Bacharelado em Enfermagem que integravam o Projeto de Intervenção Ser, Saber, Ouvir, Viver, no qual eram desenvolvidas ações de prevenção ao suicídio e valorização da vida direcionado aos estudantes universitários da instituição. Resultados: Os resultados foram analisados a partir a nuvemn da palavra e da representação gráfica de análise de similaridade, observou-se que a concepção dos alunos foi resumida às palavras Projeto e Saúde. A palavra projeto estava relacionada à motivação e as experiências dos alunos e a palavra saúde com suicídio como um problema de saúde público. Conclusão: Portanto, o projeto em questão além de favorecer um ambiente de liberdade de diálogo no âmbito acadêmico, proporciona também alívio mental que, com o passar das reuniões, pode minimizar os sintomas depressivos e ansiosos que os discentes podem apresentar, em consequência, reduzindo os índices de suicídio na instituição.

Abstract Introduction: Entering the university entails changes in the students' lifestyles regarding the social, economic, personal, and metal areas. Sometimes, the related habituation process can produce stress, which is externalized as anxiety and depression, and which can become a risk to the students' mental health. Objective: To analyze the conception which students from a course of nursing have on experiencing discussions around suicide. Methods: This is a descriptive-exploratory qualitative study carried out in a Federal University of Northeastern Brazil. Fifteen students from a course of nursing, who integrated a project to develop actions on suicide prevention and life valorization, participated in this study. The resulting information was produced using a data processing software. Results: The conceptions were analyzed through a word-cloud and graphical representation of similarities methodology. The resulting combined conception was summarized by the words Project and Health, representing the students' motivation and experiences, and suicide as a health problem, respectively. Conclusion: The corresponding free-dialog discussion on the issue provided mental relief among the students by minimizing their symptoms of anxiety and depression. This approach can contribute to reduce the suicide rates in the institution.

Resumen Introducción: El ingreso en las Universidades representa un cambio en el estilo de vida social, económico, personal y mental en los discentes (estudiantes). A veces el proceso de habituación representa un factor estresante que puede culminar en síntomas de ansiedad y depresión, y representa un factor de riesgo para la salud mental. Objetivo: Analizar la concepción de los discentes del Curso de Bachillerato en Enfermería, sobre la experiencia de vivenciar discusiones sobre la temática de suicidio. Métodos: Estudio descriptivo-exploratorio de abordaje cualitativo realizado en una Universidad Federal del Nordeste de Brasil, cuyo manejo de la información se realizó con un software de procesamiento de datos. En la investigación participaron quince estudiantes del curso Bachillerato en Enfermería que integraban el Proyecto de Intervención Ser, Saber, Escuchar, Vivir, en el cual se desarrollan acciones para los universitarios sobre prevención al suicidio y valorización de la vida. Resultados: Los resultados fueron analizados a partir de la nube de palabras y la representación gráfica del análisis de similitud, se observó que la concepción de los discentes se resumió a las palabras Proyecto y Salud. La palabra proyecto se relacionó con la motivación y las experiencias de los discentes, y la palabra salud con el suicidio como problema de salud pública. Conclusión: La discusión sobre el tema se muestra positiva en la Academia por favorecer un espacio de escucha y libertad de diálogo que proporciona alivio mental, contribuye a minimizar síntomas de ansiedad y depresión entre los discentes, y puede contribuir a reducir los índices de suicidio en la institución.

ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to describe population and morphological characteristics of preantral follicles of not pregnant cows, pregnant cows and fetus. Ten ovaries of non-pregnant Nelore cows, eighteen ovaries of pregnant cows and eighteen ovaries of fetus were used. For pregnant cows, six ovaries from each third (initial, middle and final) were evaluated, acquired from a slaughterhouse. For fetus, the same methodology and proportion of ovaries were used. Ovaries were washed, fixed and embedded in paraffin. They were then sectioned in longitudinal sections and stained by the Hematoxylin-Eosin method. Preantral follicles were classified according to morphology (primordial, primary and secondary) and degree of viability (intact and in initial, moderate and marked atresia). Descriptive and statistical analyzes were performed through KS300 image analysis program and Tukey’s test. A greater proportion of primordial follicles were found in all categories. Secondary follicles were not observed in ovaries of fetus and cows in the initial third of pregnancy. All the ovary dimensions were higher in non-pregnant cows and in the final third of cows' pregnancy, and lower in final third of pregnancy fetus. It was concluded that follicle isolation was effective in describing population and morphological characteristics of preantral follicles of cows and fetus.

RESUMO O presente relato descreve uma condição rara de intussuscepção uterina em uma cadela sem raça definida, quatro anos de idade, diagnosticada por meio de celiotomia exploratória e análise anatomopatológica. Foi realizada ovariossalpingo-histerectomia (OSH) como tratamento. Essa patologia geralmente requer manejo cirúrgico porque o diagnóstico inicial pode ser desafiador.

ABSTRACT The present study describes a rare condition of uterine intussusception in a 4 year old crossbred female dog diagnosed by exploratory celiotomy and anatomopathological analysis. As treatment, a ovariohysterectomy (OH) was performed. This pathology usually requires surgical management because the initial diagnosis can be challenging.

RESUMO O objetivo do presente experimento foi avaliar efeito do estresse e da dificuldade de inseminação (DifIA) sobre a taxa de concepção (TC) de vacas (n=93) e novilhas (n= 72) Nelore submetidas à IATF. No D9, anotou-se nota de temperamento (NTe) e tempo da saída do brete (TSB) de todos os animais e coletou-se sangue das novilhas. No dia da IATF (D11), anotou-se NTe, TSB, DifIA e tempo de IA. A TC foi 36% para vacas e 46% para novilhas (P>0,05). Não foi observado efeito de Nte sobre TC (P>0,05). Porém, houve tendência para maior (P<0,10) TC nos animais que não apresentaram dificuldade de inseminação (DifIA1; TP=42%) em comparação aos animais com moderada ou alta dificuldade (DifIA2+DifIA3; TP=27%). Foi observado menor (P<0,05) tempo de IA para animais DifIA1 (17:31±06:02s) que animais DifIA2-3 (30:10±15:45s). Novilhas com maiores (P<0,05) níveis de cortisol apresentaram maior NTe (P<0,05). Entretanto, TC (59%) das novilhas menos reativas (cortisol=4,12±1,12ng/mL; NTe=3,2±0,6) não diferiu da TC (41%; P>0,05) das mais agitadas (cortisol=7,76±1,33ng/mL; NTe=3,82±0,79). Concluiu-se que avaliações de temperamento se relacionaram com nível de estresse, embora esses parâmetros não tenham afetado a TC deste trabalho. A maior dificuldade e/ou tempo necessário para se completar a IA demonstrou ser um potencial fator para a redução da fertilidade na IATF.

ABSTRACT The objective was to evaluate the influence of stress and difficulty of insemination (DifIA) on conception rate (CR) of Nellore cows (n= 93) and heifers (n= 72) in Timed-AI. On D9, temperament (NTe) and time for chute exit (TSB) were recorded for all animals, and blood samples were colected from heifers. On the day of Timed-AI (D11), NTe, TSB, DifIA and time for AI were recorded. For cows, CR was 36% and for heifers 46% (P> 0.05). No effect (P> 0.05) of NTe was observed on CR. However, a tendency (P< 0,10) for higher CR was observed in animals with no difficulty for insemination (DifIA1; CR=42%) compared to animals that presented moderate or high difficulty (DifIA2+DifIA3, CR=27%). Time required for AI was lower (P< 0.05) in animals DifIA1 (17:31±06:02sec) than in animals DifIA2-3 (30:10±15:45sec). Heifers with greater (P< 0.05) cortisol levels presented higher Nte (P< 0.05). However, CR (59%) of less reactive heifers (cortisol=4,12±1,12ng/mL; NTe=3,2±0,6) did not differ from CR (41%; P> 0.05) of stressed animals (cortisol=7,76±1,33ng/mL; NTe=3,82±0,79). It was concluded that assessments of temperament were related to stress level, although these parameters did not affect the CR of this study. However, the higher difficulty and/or time to complete AI showed to be a potential factor for reducing fertility after timed-AI.

ABSTRACT Croton zehntneri Pax & K. Hoffm., Euphorbiaceae, or “canela-de-cunhé” is used in the Northeast Brazil to treat several diseases. Leaves and aerial parts of C. zehntneri are rich in volatile oil of high potential therapeutic. This study aimed to investigate volatile oil systemic toxicity after per oral treatment in rats. Volatile oil characterization (gas chromatography and mass spectrometry) showed 85.7% anethole and 4.8% estragole. Male Wistar rats (116–149 g) were treated with volatile oil (250 mg/kg p.o.) during ten weeks and evaluated for the following parameters: survival; food and water intake; body mass; absolute/relative organs weight; hemogram; plasma biochemical dosage; organs morphology. Volatile oil did not alter animal water and food consumption or the relative/absolute weight of most organs, but animals gained less weight. Volatile oil did not alter function biomarkers of pancreas, kidney, heart or liver, but increased plasma gamma-glutamyltranspeptidase (liver biomarker) and decreased uric acid (kidney biomarker). Although volatile oil had caused discrete morphological alterations in some organs, it did not induce architectural changes in these organs. In conclusion, the sub-acute per oral treatment with volatile oil no longer than ten weeks in rats offers small toxicity at doses below 250 mg/kg.

RESUMO: A presença de plantas voluntárias de milho em convivência com a soja vem se acentuando desde a introdução no mercado de híbridos de milho resistentes ao glyphosate. O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o efeito da interferência de plantas voluntárias de milho RR® em diferentes densidades em dois cultivares de soja RR®. O experimento foi conduzido no município de Rio Verde (GO). O delineamento experimental utilizado foi de blocos casualizados em arranjo fatorial (2x5), com quatro repetições. O fator A correspondeu a duas cultivares de soja (BMX Potência RR® e M8210 IPRO®). Para o fator B, foram adotadas cinco densidades de plantas de milho RR® por m2 (0, 4, 8, 12 e 16). Foram realizadas as seguintes avaliações referentes à soja: altura de plantas, índice SPAD, porcentagem de fechamento das entrelinhas, massa seca da parte aérea, altura de inserção da primeira vagem, número de vagens por planta, massa de 100 grãos e rendimento de grãos. A altura de plantas de soja possui relação linear e positiva com o aumento na densidade de plantas de milho. Massa seca da parte aérea, massa de 100 grãos, número de vagens por planta e rendimento de grãos foram afetados negativamente pelo aumento na densidade de infestação de milho voluntário. O cultivar de soja M8210 IPRO® demonstrou ser mais suscetível à interferência das plantas de milho que o cultivar BMX Potência RR®.

ABSTRACT: The presence of volunteer corn plants in coexistence with soybean has been increasing since the introduction of glyphosate-resistant corn hybrids. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of interference of volunteer RR® corn plants at different densities on two RR® soybean cultivars. The experiment was conducted in Rio Verde, GO. The experimental design was a randomized block design in a factorial arrangement (2×5), with four replications. Factor A consisted of two soybean cultivars (BMX Potência RR® and M8210 IPRO®), while five densities of RR® corn plants per m2 (0, 4, 8, 12, and 16) were adopted for factor B. The following evaluations were carried out for soybean: plant height, SPAD index, percentage of interrow closure, shoot dry matter, first pod height, number of pods per plant, 100 grain weight, and grain yield of grains. Soybean plant height presented a linear and positive relationship with the increased density of corn plants. Shoot dry matter, 100 grain weight, number of pods per plant, and grain yield were negatively affected by the increased density of volunteer corn infestation. The soybean cultivar M8210 IPRO® was more susceptible to corn plant interference when compared to the cultivar BMX Potência RR®.
