ABSTRACT Wild birds have great prominence in the transmission of diseases to humans, mainly due to their ease of access to human populations, raising concerns about the potential impact of that proximity on public health. The present study reports ARV and PBV occurrence in wild birds from an environmental protection area in the Amazon biome, in Pará state, Brazil. We obtained 155 fecal specimens from 47 species of wild birds for RNA extraction, ARV and PBV detection utilizing molecular methods, nucleotide sequencing, and phylogenetic analysis. ARV prevalence was 0.6% (1/155), being positive in an individual of Myrmotherula longipennis, and PBV prevalence was 1.29% (2/155), affecting two individuals of Guira guira. The PBV strains were assigned to genogroup I based on phylogenetic analysis, and they shared a strong phylogenetic link with strains isolated from different geographic locations. The ARV strain was more closely related to strains that had previously circulated in the same region. The presence of ARV and PBV in this habitat suggests that infection cycles of these agents occur naturally in the wild ecosystem, potentially triggering transmission events between bird species and humans. This is the first study on ARV detection in wild birds in Brazil and the first report on the occurrence of PBV in wild Guira guira. Additional studies are required to determine the epidemiology, origin, evolution, and emergence of new potentially pathogenic viruses in the Amazon.

RESUMO As aves silvestres têm grande destaque na transmissão de doenças ao homem, principalmente pela facilidade de acesso à população humana, levantando preocupações sobre o potencial impacto dessa proximidade no contexto da saúde pública. O presente estudo relata a ocorrência de ARV e PBV em aves silvestres de uma área de proteção ambiental no bioma Amazônico. Obtivemos 155 espécimes fecais de 47 espécies de aves silvestres, que foram submetidos a extração de RNA, detecção de ARV e PBV por técnicas moleculares, sequenciamento nucleotídico e análise filogenética. A prevalência de infecção por ARV foi 0,6% (1/155), sendo positivo em um indivíduo de Myrmotherula longipennis, e a prevalência de PBV foi 1,29% (2/155), afetando dois insdivíduos de Guira guira. A análise filogenética agrupou as cepas de PBV no genogrupo I, mostrando intensa relação filogenética com cepas isoladas de outras regiões geográficas. A cepa de ARV esteve mais relacionada filogeneticamente a cepas previamente circulantes na mesma região. Este é o primeiro estudo sobre detecção de ARV em aves silvestres no Brasil e o primeiro relato sobre a ocorrência de PBV em Guira guira. A circulação de ARV e PBV nesse ambiente demonstra que os ciclos desses agentes estão ocorrendo de forma natural no ecossistema silvestre, o que pode desencadear possíveis eventos de transmissão entre as espécies aviárias e humanos. Estudos adicionais são necessários para determinar a epidemiologia, origem, evolução e surgimento de novos vírus potencialmente patogênicos na Amazônia.

Abstract Introduction: Chronic kidney disease is usually asymptomatic, and its diagnosis depends on laboratory tests, with emphasis on serum creatinine and proteinuria. Objective: To assess knowledge on the role of serum creatinine as a biomarker of kidney function in a sample of the Brazilian population. Method: Cross-sectional observational study conducted in São Paulo (SP, Brazil), in which a random adult population was interviewed. Results: A total of 1138 subjects were interviewed, with a median age of 36 years old (27–52); 55.1% were female. Regarding the “creatinine” biomarker, 40.6% stated they had never performed such a test. When asked about their knowledge on the usefulness of this exam, only 19.6% knew its function. The other responses were “I don’t know” (71.6%), evaluating heart function (0.9%) and liver function (7.8%). Of those who reported they had already taken a creatinine test, only 29.4% correctly identified the role of creatinine. When dividing the groups into “knows” and “does not know” the function of creatinine, a statistically significant difference (p < 0.05) was observed regarding level of education, female sex, being a healthcare student/worker, having ever measured creatinine, knowing someone with kidney disease and older age. In the multivariate analysis, the main variable related to knowing the creatinine role was having previously taken the test (OR 5.16; 95% CI 3.16–8.43, p < 0.001). Conclusion: There is a significant lack of knowledge about creatinine and its use in checkups. The results indicate that greater efforts are needed from healthcare professionals to raise awareness on the role of serum creatinine.

Resumo Introdução: A doença renal crônica costuma ser assintomática e seu diagnóstico depende da realização de exames laboratoriais, com destaque para a creatinina sérica e pesquisa de proteinúria. Objetivo: Avaliar em uma amostra da população brasileira o conhecimento sobre o papel da creatinina sérica como marcador de função renal. Método: Estudo observacional transversal realizado na cidade de São Paulo (SP, Brasil), em que foi entrevistada uma população adulta aleatória. Resultados: Foram entrevistados 1138 indivíduos, com idade mediana de 36 anos (27–52); 55,1% do sexo feminino. Com relação ao marcador “creatinina”, 40,6% afirmaram que nunca realizaram tal dosagem. Quando questionados quanto ao conhecimento sobre a utilidade desse exame, somente 19,6% sabiam a sua função. As outras respostas foram “não sei” (71,6%), avaliar o funcionamento do coração (0,9%) e fígado (7,8%). Dos que afirmaram já terem realizado o exame de creatinina, somente 29,4% acertaram a função da creatinina. Ao dividir os grupos em “sabe” e “não sabe” a função da creatinina, percebeu-se diferença estatisticamente significante (p < 0,05) em relação ao grau de escolaridade, sexo feminino, ser aluno/trabalhador da saúde, ter dosado creatinina alguma vez, conhecer alguém com doença renal e maior idade. Na análise multivariada, a principal variável relacionada com conhecer a função da creatinina foi ter realizado o exame anteriormente (OR 5,16; IC 95% 3,16–8,43, p < 0,001). Conclusão: Há grande desconhecimento sobre a creatinina e seu uso em check-ups. Os resultados indicam que é necessário maior esforço por parte dos profissionais de saúde para divulgar o papel da creatinina sérica.

Resumo O objetivo do presente trabalho foi avaliar índices de competição dependentes da distância e definir um raio de influência competitiva entre árvores em um fragmento de Mata Atlântica sob recuperação florestal. A área em estudo possui 2,53ha, na qual foi realizado o inventário com intensidade amostral de 15,81%. Avaliaram-se três índices de competição e vinte distâncias para o raio de competição (1, 2, 3... e 20 m). O índice IC3, que relaciona o DAP de árvores competidoras com a aquele da árvore objetivo multiplicado pela distância entre as mesmas somado a uma unidade, se mostrou o mais adequado para representar a competição. Esse índice se correlacionou mais fortemente com os atributos biométricos, apresentou fundamentação biológica e a menor variabilidade com o aumento do raio de competição. Os índices de competição e suas respectivas variabilidades tenderam à estabilização a partir do raio de competição de, aproximadamente, 6 m. Conclui-se que o índice IC3 e o raio de competição de 6m são indicados para análises sobre relações entre a competitividade e aspectos biométricos no local de estudo.

Abstract This research aimed to evaluate distance-dependent competition indices and defining a radius of competitive influence among trees in an Atlantic Forest fragment under forest recovery. The study area has 2.53 ha, in which the inventory was carried out with a sampling intensity of 15.81%. Three competition indices and twenty distances for the competition radius (1, 2, 3... and 20 m) were evaluated. IC3 index, which relates the DBH of competing trees with the target tree multiplied by the distance between them plus one unit, proved to be the most adequate to represent competition. This index was strongly correlated with biometric attributes, having biological support and the lowest variability when increasing the competition radius. Competition indices and their respective variability tended to stabilize from the competition radius at approximately 6 m. It is concluded that IC3 index and 6 m competition radius are suitable when analyzing the relationship between competitiveness and biometric attributes at the study site.

Resumo Objetivo analisar a função sexual e sua associação com a sexualidade e com a qualidade de vida de mulheres idosas. Método trata-se de um estudo transversal, do tipo web survey, desenvolvido com 166 mulheres idosas. Foram utilizados quatro instrumentos autoaplicáveis para a obtenção dos dados biosociodemográficos, da função sexual, sexualidade e qualidade de vida. A análise foi realizada com o teste de Mann-Whitney, correlação de Spearman e regressão linear, considerando um intervalo de confiança de 95%. Resultados a maior influência da função sexual foi observada na dimensão ato sexual da sexualidade (β=0,524; [IC95%=0,451-0,597]; p<0,001; R2=54,8%) e entre a faceta intimidade da qualidade de vida (β=0,501; [IC95%=0,380-0,622]; p<0,001; R2=29,0%). De modo geral, o modelo de regressão demonstrou que a função sexual permaneceu associada à sexualidade (β=0,888; [IC95%=0,749-1,028]; p<0,001; R2=49,1%) e à qualidade de vida das participantes (β=0,352; [IC95%=0,264-0,439]; p<0,001; R2=27,7%). Conclusão e implicações para a prática a função sexual está associada à sexualidade e à qualidade de vida das mulheres idosas, assumindo comportamento diretamente proporcional que, por sua vez, pode se tornar uma estratégia para agregar qualidade aos anos adicionais de vida dessa população.

Abstract Objective to analyze the sexual function and its association with the sexuality and quality of life of elderly women. Methods this is a cross-sectional web survey study developed with 166 elderly women. Four self-administered instruments were used to obtain biosociodemographic, sexual function, sexuality and quality of life data. The analysis was performed using the Mann-Whitney test, Spearman correlation and linear regression, considering a 95% confidence interval. Results the greatest influence of sexual function was observed in the sexual act dimension of sexuality (β=0.524; [95%CI=0.451-0.597]; p<0.001; R2=54.8%) and between the intimacy facet of quality of life (β =0.501; [95%CI=0.380-0.622]; p<0.001; R2=29.0%). In general, the regression model showed that sexual function remained associated with sexuality (β=0.888; [CI95%=0.749-1.028]; p<0.001; R2=49.1%) and the quality of life of the participants (β=0.352; [CI95%=0.264-0.439]; p<0.001; R2=27.7%). Conclusion and implications for the practice sexual function is associated with the sexuality and quality of life of older women, assuming a directly proportional behavior which, in turn, can become a strategy to add quality to the additional years of life of this population.

Método se trata de un estudio transversal, del tipo web survey, desarrollado con 166 mujeres mayores. Resumo Objetivo analisar a associação entre as vivências em sexualidade com as variáveis biossociodemográficas e a qualidade de vida de pessoas idosas. Métodos estudo transversal, desenvolvido com 1.922 pessoas idosas brasileiras, cujos dados foram coletados por meio de web survey. Utilizaram-se três instrumentos para a obtenção dos dados biossociodemográficos, da sexualidade e da qualidade de vida. A análise foi realizada com os testes de Mann-Whitney, Kruskal-Wallis, correlação de Spearman e regressão linear multivariada, com método de entrada “inserir”, adotando Intervalo de Confiança de 95%. Resultados a avaliação geral da sexualidade esteve associada fortemente com estado civil (p<0,001); religião (p=0,001); não ter filhos (p<0,001); orientação sexual (p=0,008) e recebimento de orientações sobre sexualidade pelos profissionais de saúde (p=0,002). A sexualidade correlacionou-se de forma positiva e com diferentes magnitudes com todas as facetas de qualidade de vida (p<0,001). A análise de regressão demonstrou que todas as dimensões da sexualidade permaneceram associadas, positivamente, com qualidade de vida: ato sexual [β=0,154; IC95%=0,083-0,225; p<0,001]; relações afetivas [β=0,335; IC95%=0,263-0,407; p<0,001] e adversidades física e social [β=1,388; IC95%=1,206-1,571; p<0,001]. Conclusão e implicações para a prática: a sexualidade associou-se, significativamente, com algumas variáveis biossociodemográficas e esteve correlacionada, positivamente, com a qualidade de vida das pessoas idosas investigadas.

Abstract Objective to analyze the association between experiences of sexuality with bio-socio-demographic variables and quality of life of elderly people. Methods cross-sectional study, developed with 1,922 Brazilian elderly people, whose data were collected through a web survey. Three instruments were used to obtain bio-socio-demographic data, sexuality and quality of life. The analysis was carried out with the Mann-Whitney, Kruskal-Wallis, Spearman correlation and multivariate linear regression tests, with the “insert” input method, adopting a 95% confidence interval. Results the overall assessment of sexuality was strongly associated with marital status (p<0.001); religion (p=0.001); not having children (p<0.001); sexual orientation (p=0.008) and receiving guidance on sexuality from health professionals (p=0.002). Sexuality correlated positively and with different magnitudes with all facets of quality of life (p<0.001). Regression analysis demonstrated that all dimensions of sexuality remained positively associated with quality of life: sexual act [β=0.154; 95%CI=0.083-0.225; p<0.001]; affective relationships [β=0.335; 95%CI=0.263-0.407; p<0.001] and physical and social adversity [β=1.388; 95%CI=1.206-1.571; p<0.001]. Conclusion and implications for practice sexuality was significantly associated with some bio-socio-demographic variables and positively correlated with the quality of life of the elderly people investigated.

Resumen Objetivo analizar la asociación entre experiencias en sexualidad con las variables biosociodemográficas y la calidad de vida de los adultos mayores. Métodos estudio transversal desarrollado con 1.922 ancianos brasileños, cuyos datos fueron recolectados a través de una encuesta web. Se usaron tres instrumentos para obtener datos biosociodemográficos, de sexualidad y de la calidad de vida. El análisis se realizó mediante las pruebas de Mann-Whitney, Kruskal-Wallis, correlación de Spearman y regresión lineal multivariada, con método de entrada “ingresar”, adoptando un Intervalo de Confianza del 95%. Resultados la evaluación general de la sexualidad se asoció fuertemente con el estado civil (p <0,001); religión (p = 0,001); no tener hijos (p <0,001); orientación sexual (p = 0,008) y recibir orientación sobre sexualidad por parte de profesionales de la salud (p = 0,002). La sexualidad se correlacionó positivamente y con diferentes magnitudes con todas las facetas de la calidad de vida (p <0,001). El análisis de regresión mostró que todas las dimensiones de la sexualidad permanecieron asociadas positivamente con la calidad de vida: relaciones sexuales [β = 0,154; IC95% = 0,083-0,225; p <0,001]; relaciones afectivas [β = 0,335; IC95% = 0,263-0,407; p <0,001] y adversidades físicas y sociales [β = 1,388; IC95% = 1,206-1,571; p <0,001]. Conclusión e implicaciones para la práctica la sexualidad se asoció significativamente con algunas variables biosociodemográficas y se correlacionó positivamente con la calidad de vida de los ancianos investigados.

RESUMO: Objetivo: Validar o conteúdo e a aparência de um aplicativo sobre prevenção e controle da sífilis para adolescentes. Método: Estudo metodológico realizado de janeiro a junho de 2020. Participaram 22 juízes com experiência na área de sífilis, com ênfase em promoção da saúde do adolescente, tecnologias educativas e validação de instrumentos. Foi usado instrumento que possui variáveis relacionadas ao conteúdo, estrutura, funcionalidade e relevância. Utilizou-se o Índice de Validade de Conteúdo, Teste Alpha de Cronbach e Índice de Legibilidade de Flesch. Resultados: Nas três dimensões, a média do Índice de Validade de Conteúdo foi superior a 0,80, o que valida os conteúdos do aplicativo. O Índice de Validade de Conteúdo global do aplicativo foi de 0,86, sendo satisfatório e possibilitando considerar aplicativo validado quanto ao conteúdo e aparência. Em relação ao Alfa de Cronbach total do aplicativo, obteve-se um valor de 0,94, demonstrando uma excelente homogeneidade entre as respostas dos participantes. O teste de legibilidade revelou que a tecnologia é considerada de fácil compreensão para o leitor. Conclusão: O aplicativo móvel se apresentou válido quanto ao conteúdo e a aparência, demonstrando que é uma ferramenta tecnológica confiável para ser utilizada por adolescentes na educação em saúde acerca da prevenção e controle da sífilis.

RESUMEN: Objetivo: Validar el contenido y la apariencia de una aplicación para adolescentes sobre la prevención y el control de la sífilis. Método: Estudio metodológico realizado de enero a junio de 2020. Participaron 22 jueces con experiencia en el área de la sífilis con énfasis en la promoción de la salud de los adolescentes, las tecnologías educativas y la validación de instrumentos. Se utilizó un instrumento que tiene variables relacionadas con el contenido, la estructura, la funcionalidad y la relevancia. Se utilizaron el Índice de Validez de Contenido, la Prueba Alfa de Cronbach y el Índice de Legibilidad de Flesch. Resultados: En las tres dimensiones, la media del Índice de Validez de Contenido fue superior a 0,80, lo que valida los contenidos de la aplicación. El Índice de Validez de Conocimiento global de la aplicación fue de 0,86, resultando satisfactorio y permitiendo considerar la aplicación como validada en cuanto a conocimiento y apariencia. En relación con el Alfa de Cronbach total de la aplicación, se obtuvo un valor de 0,94, lo que demuestra una excelente homogeneidad entre las respuestas de los participantes. La prueba de legibilidad reveló que la tecnología se considera de fácil comprensión para el lector. Conclusión: La aplicación móvil se presenta válida en cuanto al contenido y la apariencia, demostrando que es una herramienta tecnológica fiable para ser utilizada por los adolescentes en la educación para la salud sobre la prevención y el control de la sífilis.

ABSTRACT: Objective: To validate the appearance and content of an application for the prevention and control of syphilis in adolescents. Method: A methodological study was carried out from January to June 2020. Twenty-two judges with experience in syphilis control participated, with an emphasis on adolescent health promotion, educational technologies, and instrument validation. An instrument with variables related to content, structure, functionality, and relevance was used. The Content Validity Index, Cronbach's Alpha Test, and Flesch's Readability Index were used. Results: In the three dimensions, the average Content Validity Index was greater than 0.80, which validates the contents of the application. The overall Content Validity Index of the application was 0.86, which is satisfactory and makes it possible to consider the application valid in terms of content and appearance. Concerning the total Cronbach's Alpha of the application, a value of 0.94 was obtained, demonstrating excellent homogeneity between the participants' responses. The readability test revealed that the technology is easy for the user to understand. Conclusion: The mobile application proved valid in terms of content and appearance, demonstrating that this is a reliable technological tool that adolescents can use as a health education strategy for syphilis prevention and control.

A experiência de trabalhar no enfrentamento da Covid-19, em meio a um processo tenso, contraditório e com repercussões na própria saúde, constitui o contexto desta pesquisa, que tem o objetivo de entender o trabalho de Enfermagem na experiência de enfermeira(o)s da linha de frente contra a Covid-19, em Alagoas, Brasil. Trata-se de pesquisa qualitativa, com análise de conteúdo das histórias orais temáticas de seis enfermeiras que atuaram na linha de frente das cidades de Arapiraca e Maceió, estado de Alagoas, Brasil. As categorias temáticas que se destacaram na análise foram: desvalorização; ausência de estrutura física e de recursos para o trabalho; vínculo precário de trabalho; e relação entre sobrecarga, adoecimento e desgaste. Constatou-se que essas categorias compõem o que tem sido chamado de precarização do trabalho, já estabelecida anteriormente, mas amplificada na pandemia, a exemplo da experiência das trabalhadoras de Enfermagem.

La experiencia de trabajar en el enfrentamiento de la Covid-19, en el medio de un proceso tenso, contradictorio, con repercusiones sobre la propia salud, constituye el contexto de esta investigación, con el objetivo de entender el trabajo de enfermería en la experiencia de enfermeros(as) de la línea de frente contra la Covid-19, en Alagoas, Brasil. Se trata de una investigación cualitativa con análisis del contenido de las historias orales temáticas de 6 enfermeras que actuaron en la línea de frente en las ciudades de Arapiraca y Maceió, estado de Alagoas, Brasil. Las categorías temáticas que se destacaron en el análisis fueron: desvalorización, ausencia de estructura física y recursos para el trabajo, vínculo precario de trabajo y relación entre sobrecarga, ponerse enfermo y desgaste. Se constató que esas categorías componen lo que se ha denominado de precarización del trabajo, ya establecida anteriormente, pero amplificada en la pandemia, a ejemplo de la experiencia de las trabajadoras de enfermería.

The experience of working in the confrontation of Covid-19, amid tension, contradictions and impacts in the workers’ health constitutes the context of this research, with the objective of understanding the nursing work in the experience of frontline nurses against Covid-19, in Alagoas, Brazil. This is a qualitative research, using content analysis of the thematic oral histories of 6 nurses, who worked on the frontline in the cities of Arapiraca and Maceió, state of Alagoas, Brazil. The thematic categories emerging from the analysis were: devaluation; lack of physical structure and resources for work; precarious work bond; and the relationship between overload, illness, and wear and tear. It was found that these categories are encompassed by the term work precarization, previously established, but amplified in the pandemic, following the experience of nursing workers.

ABSTRACT CONTEXT: The relationship with body image, which is the way the body presents itself to each subject, can be aggravated in children and adolescents diagnosed with an human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection, since these patients use antiretroviral therapy and may suffer from the adverse effects of the treatment due to continuous use of medication. OBJECTIVE: To estimate the prevalence of body image dissatisfaction, to describe the assessment methods, and to identify associated factors in children and adolescents diagnosed with HIV. DESIGN AND SETTING: This is a systematic review. Department of Physical Education, Florianópolis - Brazil METHODS: We followed the procedures of the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews (PRISMA) and the Cochrane recommendations in the selection of articles through a search performed in eight databases. RESULTS: Prevalence of body image dissatisfaction due to thinness was between 36.7–52.0% in males and 28.1–36.4% in females, and body image dissatisfaction due to overweight was between 8.0–31.2% in males and 21.9–50.0% in females. Factors associated with body image dissatisfaction were as follows: female sex, older age, low levels of physical activity, low self-esteem, higher body fat, higher body weight, greater arm muscle area, triceps skinfold thickness, and higher body mass index. CONCLUSION: Children and adolescents of both sexes diagnosed with HIV infection are dissatisfied by thinness and overweight of their body image. ABSTRACT Children have an increased likelihood of becoming carriers of the chronic hepatitis B virus. A total of 1,381 children and adolescents were assessed in five municipalities of Maranhao State, Brazil, for detection of anti-HBc, HBsAg and anti-HBs serologic markers and sociodemographic and behavioral features. Among those who were HBsAg negative and anti-HBc negative, the proportion of anti-HBs positives was calculated after the individuals had completed the vaccination schedule. The robust variance of the Poisson’s regression model was used in order to have adjusted tables and calculate the prevalence ratio. Multivariate analysis was performed to identify the factors associated with the prevalence of anti-HBc with or without HBsAg and the vaccine response. It was observed that 163 children were anti-HBc positive and nine individuals were HBsAg positive. The factors associated with the infection were: municipality of residence (residing in Morros municipality or Humberto de Campos municipality), residence in a rural area, aged between 13 and 15 years old, and illicit drug use. The percentage of individuals who were anti-HBc negative and received all three doses of the vaccine was 48.5%. Among these, only 276 (38.9%) had antibodies at protective concentrations. In an adjusted analysis, Morros municipality presented an increased positivity of vaccine response (p < 0.001), and the age ranging between 6 and 10 years old presented a reduced frequency of response. This study reveals a high prevalence of current and past HBV infection within the targeted age group which, in addition to the low vaccination coverage and serological responses, raises concerns about the management of prevention measures, especially the quality of vaccination in these locations.

Abstract: The objective of this study was to evaluate the quality of milk and cheese and sensory analysis of cheese from goats that received a diet with different levels of sorghum silage in the diet. Twenty Anglonubian dairy goats were used, with an average age of 2 years, average live weight of 43.7 kg, distributed in a completely randomized design, with five replications. ABSTRACT BACKGROUND: Identifying the relationship between maximum consumption of oxygen and body fat percentage is important due to increased cardiovascular risk factors. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to verify the association between body fat percentage determined by three predictive equations using anthropometric measures (Lohman, Boileau, and Slaughter) and maximum oxygen uptake (VO2max). We also aimed to estimate the capacity of these equations for explaining VO2max variations in adolescents according to sex. DESIGN AND SETTING: This was a cross-sectional study conducted in high schools in São José, Southern Brazil. METHODS: This study included 879 adolescents (14–19 years) from Southern Brazil. Aerobic fitness was assessed using the modified Canadian Aerobic Fitness Test. The independent variable was body fat percentage predicted by the Lohman, Boileau, and Slaughter equations. Analyses adjusted for sociodemographic variables, physical activity level, and sexual maturation were performed with P value < 0.05. RESULTS: All anthropometric prediction equations used to estimate body fat percentage explained VO2max variations in adolescents. In male adolescents, both regression models based on the Boileau et al.12 and Lohman10 equations revealed higher explanatory power for VO2max (20%) compared with that based on the Slaughter et al.13 equation (19%). In female adolescents, the model based on the anthropometric equation of Slaughter et al.13 showed the greatest explanatory power for VO2max (18%). CONCLUSION: The inverse relationship between VO2max and body fat intensifies the need for effective intervention programs that prioritize maintenance of appropriate body fat and aerobic fitness levels because inadequate levels of both factors result in negative health consequences.

ABSTRACT Objective: The objective of the study was to assess the association of anthropometric measurements with endothelial function and arterial stiffness of eutrophic individuals and with overweight. Subjects and methods: A cross-sectional study was carried out with individuals with body mass index (BMI) between 18.5 kg/m² and < 30 kg/m², low to intermediate global cardiovascular risk scores, and aged ≥ 18 and < 60 years. We assessed the sociodemographic data, anthropometric variables (body weight, height, circumferences of the waist [WC], neck [NC], hip [HC], sagittal abdominal diameter [SAD], [BMI], waist-to-hip ratio [WHR], and waist-to-height ratio [WHtR]), biochemical parameters (lipid profile and nitric oxide), endothelial function (flow-mediated dilation [FMD], by ultrasound), and arterial stiffness (pulse wave velocity [PWV] and the amplification index [AIx@75] by oscillometry). Thirty-six individuals were included, 18 eutrophic and 18 with overweight, with a mean age of 37.5 ± 10.2 years, mostly at low cardiovascular risk (86.1%), female (80.6%), single (52.8%), employed with formal contracts (44.4%), and with over twelve years of education (88.9%). Results: The PWV presented positive and moderate correlation with the WC (r = 0.584; P = 0.001), WHR (r = 0.513; P = 0.001), and WHtR (r = 0.590; P = 0.001), and positive and low correlation with the NC (r = 0.372; P = 0.013) and SAD (r = 0.356; P = 0.033). Moreover, no anthropometric parameter presented a correlation with the AIx@75 or the FMD percentage in the total sample. Conclusion: Our findings show that in eutrophic individuals and with overweight the WC, WHR, WHtR, SAD, and NC were positively correlated with the PWV but not to the endothelial function in the overall sample. These are hypothesis-generating findings and they should be replicated in other studies.

ABSTRACT Objective: to describe the suicide risk rates in Nursing students from different nationalities in a public university. Method: a cross-sectional study conducted between August and November 2019 in Ceará, Brazil. The students included were those aged at least 18 years old and duly enrolled; the exclusion criteria were as follows: inactive link due to medical leave or course cancellation. The Suicide Risk Index was used for data collection. The following tests were performed: Chi-square; Fisher’s Exact and Mann-Whitney. Results: of the 192 participants, 28.6% did not have religious/spiritual factors susceptible of stopping the suicidal act, 12.5% had a family history of suicide, and 2.6% had suicide plans. An association was detected between gender and suicidal potential risk (p>0.000). There was a difference in the suicidal potential risk in relation to gender (p>0.000), nationality (p>0.000) and marital status (p=0.043). Conclusion: the study contributes to a reflection on suicide, to early detection and to understanding the impacts in the university.

RESUMEN Objetivo: describir los índices de riesgo de suicidio en estudiantes de Enfermería de distintas nacionalidades en una universidad pública. Método: estudio transversal desarrollado entre agosto y noviembre de 2019 en Ceará, Brasil. Se incluyó a estudiantes con una edad mínima de 18 años y debidamente inscritos en la carrera; los criterios de exclusión fueron los siguientes: vínculo inactivo por licencia médica o cancelación del curso. Se utilizó el Índice de Riesgo de Suicidio para la recolección de datos. Se realizaron las siguientes pruebas: Chi-cuadrado; Prueba exacta de Fisher y Mann-Whitney. Resultados: de los 192 participantes, el 28,6% no presentaba factores religiosos/espirituales susceptibles de detener el acto suicida, el 12,5% tenía antecedentes familiares de suicidio y el 2,6% tenía planes suicidas. Se detectó una asociación entre sexo y riesgo de potencial suicida (p>0,000). Hubo una diferencia en las puntuaciones del riesgo de potencial suicida en relación con el sexo (p>0,000), la nacionalidad (p>0,000) y el estado civil (p=0,043). Conclusión: el estudio contribuye en la reflexión sobre el suicidio, la detección precoz y la comprensión de los efectos en la universidad.

RESUMO: Objetivo: descrever os índices de risco de suicídio em estudantes de enfermagem de diferentes nacionalidades em uma universidade pública. Método: estudo transversal que ocorreu de agosto a novembro de 2019, Ceará - Brasil. Foram incluídos alunos com idade igual ou maior que 18 anos, matriculados, sendo os critérios de exclusão: vínculo inativo por licença médica ou trancamento do curso. Utilizou-se o Índice de Risco de Suicídio para coleta de dados. Realizou-se os testes: Qui-Quadrado; Teste exato de Fisher e Mann-Whitney. Resultados: dos 192 participantes, 28,6% não tinham fatores religiosos/espirituais suscetíveis de frenar o ato suicida, 12,5% possuíam história familiar de suicídio, 2,6% tinham plano suicida. Detectou-se associação entre sexo e risco de potencial suicida (p>0,000). Houve diferença nos escores do risco de potencial suicida em relação ao sexo (p>0,000), nacionalidade (p>0,000) e estado civil (p=0,043). Conclusão: o estudo contribui para reflexão sobre o suicídio, detecção precoce, e compreensão dos impactos na universidade.

ABSTRACT The aim of this study is to report an unusual case of actinomycosis in the maxilla region of an asymptomatic patient. A 21-year-old white man was referred for the analysis of panoramic radiography and cone beam computed tomography, where it was observed the presence of a hypodense lesion on the left side of the maxilla, which extended from the maxillary left central incisor to the region of the maxillary left second premolar. During intraoral examination, a depression was observed in the hard palate mucosa, as well as a fistula in the alveolar mucosa close to maxillary left central incisor, which had pulp vitality confirmed by thermal tests. A fistulography was performed, with periapical radiography, where it was found that the fistulous path did not originate from the tooth mentioned above. An incisional biopsy was performed for diagnostic purposes. However, given the inconclusive microscopic findings, four months later, a new biopsy was performed. The histopathological examination revealed the presence of a colony of microoganisms with filamentous pattern of radiated rosette, surrounded by polymorphonuclear inflammatory cells. Based on the morphological characteristics, the diagnosis of actinomycosis was established. The treatment was based on antibiotic therapy. Six months after treatment of the infection, no signs of recurrence were observed, and the patient remains in follow-up. Actinomycosis in the maxilla is an uncommon infection with a predilection for males between the ages of 20 and 60, whose treatment is antibiotic therapy associated or not with surgical excision.

RESUMO O objetivo deste estudo é relatar um caso incomum de actinomicose em região de maxila de um paciente assintomático. Um homem de 21 anos, branco, foi encaminhado para análise de radiografia panorâmica e tomografia computadorizada de feixe cônico, onde foi observada a presença de lesão hipodensa do lado esquerdo da maxila, que se estendia da região do incisivo central superior esquerdo ao segundo pré-molar superior esquerdo. Ao exame intrabucal, observou-se depressão na mucosa do palato duro, bem como fístula na mucosa alveolar próxima ao incisivo central superior esquerdo, no qual tinha vitalidade pulpar confirmada pelos testes térmicos. Uma fistulografia com radiografia periapical foi realizada, onde foi observado que o trajeto fistuloso não era originado do dente mencionado anteriormente. Foi realizada biópsia incisional para fins diagnósticos. Porém, diante dos achados microscópicos inconclusivos, quatro meses depois, uma nova biópsia foi realizada. O exame histopatológico revelou a presença de colônia de microrganismos com padrão filamentoso de roseta irradiada, circundado por células inflamatórias polimorfonucleares. Com base nas características morfológicas, foi estabelecido o diagnóstico de actinomicose. O tratamento foi baseado em antibioticoterapia. Seis meses após o tratamento da infecção, não foram observados sinais de recidiva e o paciente permanece em acompanhamento. A actinomicose da maxila é uma infecção incomum, com predileção por pacientes do sexo masculino com idade entre 20 e 60 anos, cujo tratamento é antibioticoterapia associada ou não à excisão cirúrgica.

ABSTRACT Although the species richness of Stratiomyidae (Diptera) in Brazil (~340 species) is one of the highest for the family worldwide, we still do not know the actual number of species, the extent of their distribution, or the species seasonal dynamics for a single area in the Neotropics. The soldier fly fauna in the semideciduous seasonal forests, which cover a major area of the countryside of the state of São Paulo, is poorly known compared to the best-known areas in the Atlantic Forest for stratiomyids, such as the ombrophilous forests on the southeast coast. With the constant habitat fragmentation of the remnants of the semideciduous forests in the state for crops and pastures for cattle, we are losing valuable data about biodiversity. This study details the stratiomyids for a single area in the Neotropical Region, using a standardized collecting methodology with Malaise traps, from May 2010 to December 2011. Here, we provide a list of 41 stratiomyid species and 25 genera in eight subfamilies from a total of 1,533 specimens collected in the Reserva Biológica e Ecológica Augusto Ruschi, Sertãozinho, Brazil. The current number of species/morphospecies reported for the state of São Paulo is raised to 113, with Merosargus golbachi James, 1971 in James and McFadden, 1971 and M. tripartitus James, 1971 in James and McFadden, 1971 reported for the first time to Brazil. Our analyses estimate even higher richness in the studied area, probably between 48 to 114 species, indicating that further collection efforts are needed.
