ABSTRACT This study investigated the profile of orchidists, their cultivation practices, and their knowledge about pests in orchid cultivation in the state of Bahia. There were applied 74 questionnaires to producers (amateurs and commercials) in 23 municipalities. The data were submitted to univariate statistics using the chi-square test, the Mann–Whitney U-test and the Kruskal–Wallis H-test. The survey shows that orchid cultivation is mostly practiced by women (67.6%) and those with higher education (48.7%). Most respondents were amateurs (87.8%). Insects (39.9%) and diseases (32.5%) were the main organisms associated with phytosanitary problems. The presence of insects was reported to occur mainly in the leaves (47%), mainly mealybugs (46.3%). Correspondence was significant between commercial and amateur groups according to the pairwise Mann–Whitney U-test(1) = 370.04 and p < 0.01. The Kruskal–Wallis H-test(27) = 924.78 and p < 0.01 discriminated categories between the groups. Despite the growing interest in orchid cultivation in the state of Bahia, most orchidists are amateurs. The study warns about the risk of pest dispersion between crops since exchanging plants and purchasing specimens in open markets are common practices.

Resumo Diante do panorama atual da assistência nutricional hospitalar, torna-se necessário a revisão das práticas de assistência nutricional em unidades hospitalares, visando garantir monitoramento nutricional e qualidade assistencial. Portanto, faz-se necessário a construção de fluxos de práticas da assistência nutricional em nível hospitalar pediátrico, baseados nas recomendações do Conselho Federal de Nutricionistas e da Sociedade Brasileira de Nutrição Parenteral e Enteral, visando não gerar déficit no monitoramento nutricional ao paciente e em reduzir o risco de contaminação do profissional. Quando há a disponibilidade de equipamento de proteção individual a admissão nutricional será feita presencialmente e durante o internamento poderá ser realizado monitoramento por meio de dados secundários provenientes do prontuário eletrônico e/ou telecomunicação com a equipe multidisciplinar. A implantação de rotinas nutricionais em âmbito hospitalar em tempos de pandemia da COVID-19 gera condutas mais assertivas para a prevenção e tratamento da desnutrição e de outras implicações nutricionais, garantindo também a segurança do profissional na assistência em unidades pediátricas.

Abstract In view of the current panorama of hospital nutritional care, it is necessary to review nutritional care practices in hospital units, in order to ensure nutritional monitoring and quality of care. Therefore, it is necessary to build flows of nutritional assistance practices at the pediatric hospital level, based on the recommendations of the Federal Council of Nutritionists and the Brazilian Society of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition, aiming at not generating a deficit in the nutritional monitoring of the patient and in reducing the risk of contamination of the professional. When individual protection equipment is available, nutritional admission will be made in person and during hospitalization, monitoring can be performed using secondary data from electronic medical records and / or telecommunication with the multidisciplinary team. The implementation of nutritional routines in hospitals in times of Covid-19 pandemic generates more assertive conducts for the prevention and treatment of malnutrition and other nutritional implications, also guaranteeing the safety of professionals in assistance in pediatric units..

RESUMO As flores de corte são produtos delicados cuja qualidade e longevidade dependem das condições de cultivo e pós-colheita. O trabalho foi desenvolvido objetivando-se avaliar o antocrono e a pós-colheita de hastes de gladíolo produzidas sob diferentes épocas de cultivo e níveis de irrigação. Os experimentos foram conduzidos em casa de vegetação no Estado do Rio de Janeiro (Brasil), durante os períodos de inverno/primavera de 2018 e outono/inverno de 2019. O delineamento experimental foi em blocos casualizados, com quatro níveis de irrigação (45%, 60%, 80% e 100% da necessidade hídrica da cultura) e 5 repetições. O manejo da irrigação foi realizado pelo acionador automático para irrigação, instalado no tratamento 100%. A medida em que alcançavam o ponto de colheita, considerado como “mostrando a cor” dos três floretes basais, as hastes florais eram colhidas, sempre no período da manhã, e imediatamente levadas ao laboratório para padronização do tamanho (75 cm). Durante o armazenamento, as hastes foram mantidas à temperatura de 25 ºC, com a base imersa em recipiente contendo 300 mL de água. As avaliações de massa fresca, absorção de água, antocrono e longevidade foram realizadas diariamente, além de uma avaliação visual, realizada por meio de uma escala de senescência proposta. A ocorrência de déficit hídrico acentuado durante o cultivo interfere na massa fresca das hastes em pós-colheita e aumenta a velocidade de abertura das flores. A longevidade das hastes florais é reduzida quando gladíolo é produzido com o nível de irrigação de 45%. Não há diferenças significativas na longevidade das flores cultivadas nas diferentes estações e o valor do antocrono é influenciado pela disponibilidade de água, sendo menor nas hastes mantidas em condição de campo (0,70 a 0,80) em comparação à condição pós-colheita (0,83 a 0,92).

ABSTRACT Cut flowers are delicate products whose quality and longevity depends on growing and postharvest conditions. The aim of the study was to evaluate the anthochron and the postharvest of gladiolus stems produced under different growing seasons and irrigation levels. The experiments were carried out in a greenhouse in the State of Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) during the winter/spring 2018 and autumn/winter 2019 periods. A randomized block design with 5 replications was used, considering irrigation levels of 45%, 60%, 80% and 100% of the crop water requirement. Irrigation management was performed by the automatic irrigation controller, installed in the 100% irrigation level treatment. As they reached the harvest point, considered to be “showing the color” of the three basal florets, the floral stems were harvested, always in the morning, and immediately taken to the laboratory for standardization of size (75 cm). During the storage period, the stems were kept at a temperature of 25 ºC, with the base immersed in a container with 300 mL of water. Fresh mass, water absorption, anthochron and longevity evaluations were performed daily, in addition to a visual evaluation, performed using a proposed senescence scale. The occurrence of severe water deficit during cultivation interferes with the fresh mass of the stems in postharvest and increases the opening speed of the flowers. The floral stems’ longevity is reduced when gladiolus is produced under the 45% irrigation level. There are no significant differences in the longevity of flowers grown in the different seasons and the anthochron value is influenced by the water availability, being lower in the stems kept in field condition (0.70 to 0.80) in comparison to the postharvest condition (0.83 to 0.92).

RESUMO CONTEXTO: As doenças inflamatórias intestinais (DII) são afecções inflamatórias crônicas de caráter recorrente, cujas taxas de incidência e prevalência têm aumentado, inclusive no Brasil. A longo prazo, são responsáveis por danos estruturais que impactam na qualidade de vida, morbidade e mortalidade dos pacientes. OBJETIVO: Avaliar o perfil dos médicos que atendem pacientes com DII, assim como as características deste atendimento, demandas não atendidas e dificuldades. MÉTODOS: Um questionário contendo 17 variáveis foi elaborado e enviado para médicos, selecionados a partir do cadastro da Comissão das Estaduais do Grupo de Estudos da Doença Inflamatória Intestinal do Brasil (GEDIIB), totalizando 286 médicos de 101 cidades brasileiras distribuídas por 21 estados e Distrito Federal. RESULTADOS: A maioria dos médicos que respondeu o questionário foram Gastroenterologistas e Coloproctologistas. Mais de 60% tinham até 20 anos de atuação na especialidade e 53,14% trabalhavam em três locais ou mais. A dificuldade no acesso ou liberação de medicamentos ficou evidenciada neste questionário, assim como a dificuldade no encaminhamento para profissionais não médicos que atuam em DII. Mais de 75% dos médicos relataram dificuldades para realização de enteroscopia por duplo balão e cápsula endoscópica, e 67,8% para realização da calprotectina. Em relação ao número de pacientes atendidos por cada médico, foi evidenciado que não há uma concentração de pacientes sob a responsabilidade de poucos médicos. O infliximabe e o adalimumabe foram os biológicos mais utilizados e ficou evidenciada prescrição maior de derivados de 5-ASA para retocolite ulcerativa quando comparada à doença de Crohn. Os corticoides foram prescritos para uma parcela menor de pacientes em ambas doenças. Os temas “falha a terapia biológica” e “novas drogas” foram referidos como aqueles com maior prioridade para discussão em eventos científicos. Em relação às possíveis diferenças entre cada região e o restante do país, os médicos da região Norte relataram maior dificuldade no acesso a exames complementares e os médicos da região Nordeste, maior dificuldade no acesso ou liberação de medicamentos. CONCLUSÃO: Os dados obtidos por meio deste estudo mostram o perfil do atendimento médico especializado em DII e podem se constituir em ferramenta útil para para elaboração de políticas governamentais e para sociedade brasileira como um todo.

ABSTRACT BACKGROUND: Inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) are chronic inflammatory affections of recurrent nature whose incidence and prevalence rates have increased, including in Brazil. In long term, they are responsible for structural damage that impacts quality of life, morbidity and mortality of patients. OBJECTIVE: To describe the profile of physicians who treat IBD patients as well as the characteristics of IBD care, unmet demands and difficulties. METHODS: A questionnaire containing 17 items was prepared and sent to 286 physicians from 101 Brazilian cities across 21 states and the Federal District, selected from the register of the State Commission of the “Study Group of Inflammatory Bowel Disease of Brazil” (GEDIIB). RESULTS: The majority of the physicians who answered the questionnaire were gastroenterologists and colorectal surgeons. More than 60% had up to 20 years of experience in the specialty and 53.14% worked at three or more locations. Difficulties in accessing or releasing medicines were evident in this questionnaire, as was referrals to allied healthy professionals working in IBD-related fields. More than 75% of physicians reported difficulties in performing double-balloon enteroscopy and capsule endoscopy, and 67.8% reported difficulties in measuring calprotectin. With regard to the number of patients seen by each physician, it was shown that patients do not concentrate under the responsibility of few doctors. Infliximab and adalimumab were the most commonly used biological medicines and there was a higher prescription of 5-ASA derivatives for ulcerative colitis than for Crohn’s disease. Steroids were prescribed to a smaller proportion of patients in both diseases. The topics “biological therapy failure” and “new drugs” were reported as those with higher priority for discussion in medical congresses. In relation to possible differences among the country’s regions, physicians from the North region reported greater difficulty in accessing complementary exams while those from the Northeast region indicated greater difficulty in accessing or releasing medicines. CONCLUSION: The data obtained through this study demonstrate the profile of specialized medical care in IBD and are a useful tool for the implementation of government policies and for the Brazilian society as a whole.

RESUMO O manejo da irrigação e as condições meteorológicas durante a fase de cultivo desempenham um papel essencial na manutenção da qualidade comercial de flores de corte. Este estudo avalia a necessidade de água, a sensibilidade ao déficit hídrico e a qualidade comercial do gladíolo ‹Amsterdam’ produzido com irrigação automatizada em diferentes períodos de crescimento. O delineamento experimental foi blocos casualizados com cinco repetições, composto pelo fator época de plantio (inverno/primavera de 2018 e outono/inverno de 2019) e o fator níveis de irrigação (45% - L1, 60% - L2, 80% - L3, 100% - L4 da necessidade hídrica da cultura). A irrigação foi feita com uso do acionador automático para irrigação (AAI). No ponto de colheita nós avaliamos as hastes quanto ao diâmetro, número de flores, comprimento do pendão e da haste floral. Foram realizadas também avaliações de condutância estomática, área foliar e duração das fases fenológicas em graus-dias. A aplicação de 100% da necessidade hídrica da cultura em cultivo usando o acionador automático de irrigação no outono/inverno resulta em melhor classificação comercial. O tratamento correspondente a 45% da necessidade hídrica da cultura estendeu a duração total do ciclo do gladíolo. Hastes florais de melhor qualidade comercial são obtidas com 100% da necessidade hídrica da cultura durante o cultivo de outono/inverno.

ABSTRACT Water management and meteorological conditions during the cropping phase play an essential role in maintaining the commercial quality of cut flowers. This study evaluates water requirement, sensitivity to water deficit, and commercial quality of gladiolus ‘Amsterdam’ produced with automated irrigation in different growing periods. The experimental design was in randomized blocks with five replicates and consisted of the growing period factors (winter/spring 2018 and autumn/winter 2019) and the irrigation level factors (45% - L1, 60% - L2, 80% - L3, and 100% - L4 of crop water requirement). An automatic irrigation controller was used for irrigation management. At the harvest point, we evaluated the stems for the diameter, number of flowers, spike length, and floral stem length. We also evaluated stomatal conductance, leaf area, and duration of phenological phases on degree-days. The application of 100% crop water requirement using an automatic irrigation controller in the autumn/winter cycle results in better commercial classification. The treatment with 45% of the crop water requirement extended the total duration of the cycle. In conclusion, flower stems of better commercial classification are obtained with 100% of crop water requirement during the autumn/winter cycle.

Abstract Aim: To investigate the hypothesis that the resistance exercise (RE) may be safer if the blood pressure (BP) is properly controlled through antihypertensive pharmacological treatment in hypertensive middle-aged women. Methods: The final sample was comprised of 19 hypertensive women, with an average age of 58±5 years and a body mass index of 29±5 Kg/m2. They were divided into three groups: controlled (n=6), uncompensated (n=8), and untreated (n=5). The subjects from all groups were submitted to a test of maximal strength on extensor chair and held a session of RE (knee extension, 3x12 to 60% 1RM) and the cardiovascular response (BP and heart rate) was monitored continuously by photoplethysmography during exercise and until five minutes after exercise (recovery). Results: Systolic BP (SBP) and diastolic BP (DBP) responses were lower in the controlled group compared to the other groups (p<0.05). The heart rate was not different between groups, while the double product was lower in the controlled group compared to the untreated group (p<0.05). The SBP and DBP peaks were lower in the controlled group compared to the other groups (p<0.05). Conclusion: The BP increases significantly during RE when the hypertension is not controlled. Pharmacological control was shown to be effective in preventing the increase of BP during the performance of the RE.

Abstract The new cassava variety ‘BRS Novo Horizonte’ was developed and released in Bahia, Brazil for industrial use, particularly for starch production. The fresh and dry root yields were 39% and 44% higher, respectively, than those of local varieties. The root quality traits allowed the extraction of high-quality starch. The variety is also adapted for mechanized cropping systems.

Resumo A toxoplasmose é uma importante zoonose para mulheres grávidas e pessoas imunossuprimidas. Os suínos também são infectados por este patógeno; e a carne crua ou malcozida é uma importante fonte de infecção para o ser humano. O objetivo do presente trabalho foi avaliar a taxa de exposição suína à T. gondii no município de Mossoró, Rio Grande do Norte e identificar associações com possíveis fatores de risco. Amostras de sangue foram coletadas em tubos sem anticoagulante e o soro foi separado de 412 porcos e analisadas pelo ensaio de imunofluorescência. Dentre as 412 amostras de soro, 40,7% foram positivas para T. gondii. Os títulos para o anticorpo IgG foram 64 (56 amostras); 128 (32); 256 (37); 512 (23); 1024 (14); 2048 (5) e 4046 (1). A soropotividade para T. gondii foi relacionada (p-valor < 0,05) aos seguintes fatores: gênero feminino, sistema de criação de semi-confinamento, uso de água de poço, animais vermifugados, presença de gatos, cabras, ovelhas, ratos e urubus na fazenda e carcaças deixadas à céu aberto. Em contrapartida, a soropositividade não foi relacionada (p-valor < 0,05) à idade dos suínos, tipo de instalações ou alimentação com restos de comida humana. As adoções de medidas preventivas são necessárias na propriedade estudada, objetivando diminuir a ingestão de oocistos esporulados pelos animais.

Abstract Toxoplasmosis is an important zoonosis for pregnant women and immunosuppressed people. The pig population also becomes infected by this pathogen, and undercooked or raw meat is an important source of infection for humans. The aims of the present study were to evaluate the rate of exposure of pigs to T. gondii in the municipality of Mossoró, Rio Grande do Norte and seek to identify associations with possible risk factors. Blood samples were collected from 412 pigs and were analyzed using the immunofluorescence assay. Among these 412 serum samples, 40.7% were seropositive for T. gondii. The IgG antibody titers were 64 (56 specimens), 128 (32), 256 (37), 512 (23), 1024 (14), 2048 (5) and 4046 (1). Seropositivity for T. gondii was found to be related (p-value < 0.05) to the following factors: female gender, semi-confined rearing system, use of well water, dewormed animals, presence of cats, goats, sheep, mice and vultures on the farm and carcasses left on the ground. In contrast, seropositivity was not related (p-value < 0.05) to the age of the pigs, type of facility or feeding with human food remains. Preventive measures need to be adopted on the farms studied here, with the aim of decreasing the animals’ intake of sporulated oocysts.

ABSTRACT: Aim: This study aimed to report the clinical case of an immediate implant-supported rehabilitation in infected alveolar socket with buccal bone resorption and apical periodontitis in the teeth 42 and 43. Case Report: The patient was rehabilitated with implants associated with guided bone regeneration and immediate provisionalization. After 4 months, the custom molding was made in order to receive the metal-ceramic prosthesis. The follow-up lasted 24 months and there was no painful symptomatology, infection, implant mobility or marked peri-implant bone loss in this period. Conclusion: Therefore, the placement of immediate implants on fresh infected alveolar sockets is viable for the implant-supported rehabilitation.

Resumo Fundamentos: As cardiopatias congênitas são importantes causas de morbimortalidade infantil e, em cerca de 50% dos casos, é necessária a intervenção cirúrgica no primeiro ano de vida. Estima-se alto défice de procedimentos na Região Norte do Brasil. Objetivo: Analisar o tempo de espera para realização de tratamento eletivo cirúrgico e/ou intervencionista de crianças portadoras de cardiopatias congênitas em um centro de referência cardiológico, e fazer considerações sobre as cardiopatias e suas formas de tratamento na referida instituição. Método: Estudo analítico, de caráter transversal do período de janeiro de 2012 a outubro de 2014, de pacientes com idade igual ou inferior a 14 anos diagnosticados com cardiopatias congênitas que estavam na fila de tratamento cardíaco eletivo cirúrgico ou percutâneo. Resultados: Das 407 crianças que aguardavam por tratamento, a faixa etária mais prevalente foi a de > 2 a 6 anos (34,0%). O tempo médio de espera, em meses, foi 23,1 ± 18,3, com mediana de 19. As cardiopatias mais frequentes foram comunicação interventricular (28,98%), persistência do canal arterial (18,42%) e comunicação interatrial (11,05%). A maioria das crianças (63,4%) não pertencia à região metropolitana. As intervenções percutâneas representaram somente 27,84% do total de cateterismos e 14,85% de todos os tratamentos cardíacos. Cerca de 60% do volume de cirurgias pediátricas ocorreu em crianças sem cadastro prévio no sistema, devido ao caráter de urgência. Conclusão: Grande parte das crianças que aguardam por procedimento cardíaco é procedente de fora da região metropolitana e tem malformações potencialmente tratáveis por cateterismo. É necessário aumentar a capacidade operacional do único centro de referência público do Estado, além de descentralizar o atendimento em alta complexidade cardiológica da região metropolitana.

Abstract Background: Congenital heart disease is an important cause of morbidity and mortality in childhood, and in 50% of cases, surgery is required in the first year of life. A high deficit of surgical procedures is estimated in Northern Brazil. Objective: To analyze the waiting time for elective surgical treatment and/ or intervention in children with congenital heart disease in a Cardiology referral center, and to make considerations about heart diseases and forms of treatment in that institution. Methods: A cross-sectional study of all patients aged less than 14 years, with a diagnosis of congenital heart disease that were waiting for elective surgical or percutaneous cardiac treatment. Results: Among the 407 children with congenital heart defects, the most prevalent age group was > 2 to 6 years (34.0%). The average waiting time was 23.1 ± 18.3 months, with a median of 19. The most frequent heart disease was ventricular septal defect (28.98%), patent ductus arteriosus (18.42%) and atrial septal defect (11.05%). Most children (63.4%) were not from the metropolitan area. The percutaneous interventions represented only 27.84% of the catheterization procedures and 14,85% of all heart treatments. Approximately 60% of the pediatric surgeries occurred in children who were not previously registered due to urgency cases. Conclusion: Most of the children waiting for a cardiac procedure were not from the metropolitan area and had malformations potentially treatable by catheterization. It is necessary to increase the capacity of the single referral center in the state of Pará, as well as decentralize the high-complexity cardiological care in the metropolitan region.

Abstract Purpose: To investigate if the inorganic bovine bone matrix changes the bone formation in rats submitted to inhalation of cigarette smoke. Methods: Twenty Wistar rats were divided into two groups: Cigarette Clot Group (CCG), which in the inhalation chamber received the smoke of 10 cigarettes, 3 times a day, 10 minutes, for 30 days and had the surgical cavity filled by clot; Cigarette Biomaterial Group (CBG), submitted to the same inhalation technique but with the cavity filled by biomaterial. Results: In CCG there was a significant difference of new bone tissue in the analyzed periods (15 and 45 days), and in 15 days, there was 4.8 ± 0.42 of bone formed and 11.73 ± 0.59 (p <0.05) in 45 days. The CBG also showed a significant difference between the periods of 15 to 45 days, being respectively 6.16 ± 0.30 and 11.60 ± 0.61. However, when the groups were compared, within the same analyzed periods, a significant difference was observed only in the period of 15 days, with the new bone percentage being greater in the CBG. Conclusion: The bone matrix acted as an osteoinductive biomaterial, biocompatible and aided in the repair process, mainly in the initial period of recovery.

Resumo Recentemente, a importância de roedores selvagens na manutenção de agentes Anaplasmataceae no ambiente tem sido investigada, haja visto o papel que tais mamíferos podem desempenhar como reservatórios para os patógenos e como hospedeiros para estágios imaturos dos carrapatos vetores. O presente estudo objetivou investigar a ocorrência de Ehrlichia sp. e Anaplasma sp. em 24 cotias (Dasyprocta azarae) capturadas na Reserva Ambiental de Itapiracó, em São Luís, Maranhão, nordeste do Brazil, utilizando métodos moleculares. Quatro animais (16,7%) mostraram-se positivos nos ensaios de nested PCR para Ehrlichia spp. baseados no gene 16S rRNA gene. Na análise filogenética baseda no gene 16S rRNA e utilizando o método de Máxima Verossimilhança e modelo evolutivo GTRGAMMA+I, os genótipos de Ehrlichia sp. detectados em cotias mostraram-se filogeneticamente relacionados às sequências de E. canis e outros genótipos relacionados a E. canis detectados previamente em animais selvagens no Brasil. O presente trabalho mostrou a primeira detecção molecular de Ehrlichia sp. em cotias no Brasil.

Abstract Recently, the importance of wild-living rodents for maintenance of pathogens of the family Anaplasmataceae in the environment was investigated. These mammals play a role as reservoirs for these pathogens and act as hosts for the immature stages of tick vectors. The aim of the present study was to investigate the prevalence of Ehrlichia sp. and Anaplasma sp. in 24 specimens of Azara’s agouti (Dasyprocta azarae) that had been trapped in the Itapiracó Environmental Reserve, in São Luís, Maranhão, northeastern Brazil, using molecular methods. Four animals (16.7%) were positive for Ehrlichia spp. in nested PCR assays based on the 16S rRNA gene. In a phylogenetic analysis based on the 16S rRNA gene, using the maximum likelihood method and the GTRGAMMA+I evolutionary model, Ehrlichia sp. genotypes detected in Azara’s agoutis were found to be closely related to E. canis and to genotypes relating to E. canis that had previously been detected in free-living animals in Brazil. The present work showed the first molecular detection of Ehrlichia sp. in Azara’s agoutis in Brazil.

Resumo O objetivo do presente estudo foi identificar os componentes químicos majoritários do óleo essencial de Cuminum cyminum L. (comino) e dos óleos fixos de Bertholletia excelsa (castanha do Brasil) e de Helianthus annuus (semente de girassol). Assim como testar os três óleos e três diferentes acaricidas comerciais sintéticos contra fêmeas ingurgitadas de Rhipicephalus (Boophilus) microplus, para explorar sua eficácia acaricida. Seis concentrações dos óleos (200, 100, 50, 25, 12,5 and 6,25 mg/mL) e os princípios ativos foram avaliados por meio do Teste de Imersão de Adultas (AIT). Os dois componentes químicos majoritários de C. cyminum L. foram o cuminaldeído e o y-terpineno. Nos óleos de B. excelsa e H. annuus os componentes majoritários foram o ácido n linoleico e oleico, respectivamente. C. cyminum L. mostrou alta atividade acaricida (100%) sobre as fêmeas ingurgitadas e suas caraterísticas reprodutivas, a partir da concentração 100 mg/mL., tornando-se uma fonte alternativa para controlar o carrapato do gado. No entanto sao necessários estudos adicionais, a serem conduzidos in vivo. B. excelsa e H. annuus tiveram baixa atividade acaricida (39,39% e 58,75% na concentração de 200 mg/mL respectivamente), não obstante apresentaram maior efeito que a amidina e o piretroide (35,12% e 1,50% respetivamente). Pode-se concluir que o óleo de C. cyminum pode ser uma alternativa fitoterápica para o controle do carrapato do gado.

Abstract The objective of this study was to identify the main chemical components of the essential oil of Cuminum cyminum L. (cumin) and of the fixed oils of Bertholletia excelsa (Brazil nut) and of Helianthus annuus (sunflower seed). As well as testing the three oils and three different commercial synthetic acaricides against engorged females of Rhipicephalus (Boophilus) microplus in order to explore their acaricidal efficacy. Six different concentrations of the oils (200, 100, 50, 25, 12.5 and 6.25 mg/mL) and the active principles were evaluated with the Adult Immersion Test (AIT). The two main chemicals components of C. cyminum L. were the cuminaldehyde and the γ-terpinene. In both B. excelsa and H. annuus were the linoleic and oleic acid. C. cyminum L. showed high acaricidal activity (100%) over the engorged females and on their reproductive characteristat from the concentration of 100 mg/mL. B. excelsa and H. annuus had low acaricidal activity (39.39% and 58.75% in the concentration of 200 mg/mL respectively). The amidine and the pyrethroid (35.12% and 1.50% respectively). It can be concluded that the oil of C. cyminum L. may be a phytoterapic alternative for the cattle's tick control.
